This paper takes as its starting point the conceptual metaphor ‘life is a journey’ as defined by Lakoff and Johnson (1980) in order to advance a new reading of William Michael Rossetti's Democratic Sonnets (1907). These political verses may be defined as cognitive-semantic poems, which attest to the centrality of travel in the creation of literary and artistic meaning. Rossetti's Democratic Sonnets is not only a political manifesto against tyranny and oppression, promoting the struggle for liberalism and democracy as embodied by historical figures such as Napoleon, Mazzini, Cavour, and Garibaldi; but it also reproduces Rossetti's real and imagined journeys throughout Europe in the late nineteenth century. This essay examines these references in light of the issues they raise, especially the poet as a traveller and the journey metaphor in poetry. But its central purpose is to re-read Democratic Sonnets as a cognitive map of Rossetti's mental picture of France and Italy. A cognitive map, first theorised by Edward Tolman in the 1940s, is a very personal representation of the environment that we all experience, serving to navigate unfamiliar territory, give direction, and recall information. In terms of cognitive linguistics, Rossetti is a figure whose path is determined by French and Italian landmarks (Paris, the island of St. Helena, the Alps, the Venice Lagoon, Mount Vesuvius, and so forth), which function as reference points for orientation and are tied to the historical events of the Italian Risorgimento. Through his sonnets, Rossetti attempts to build into his work the kind of poetic revolution and sense of history which may only be achieved through encounters with other cultures.

9541 Background: Neuroblastoma (NB) is a neural crest tumor manifesting in the adrenal gland and the sympathetic ganglia. The goal of this project was to use the zebrafish model to identify genes involved in the development of the peripheral sympathetic nervous system (PSNS). We used the expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) in the cervical sympathetic ganglion (cervical complex, CC), as a marker for PSNS development. TH expression can be observed by whole-mount RNA in situ hybridization in 2–3-day zebrafish embryos in the CC. Methods: In an ethyl nitrosourea mutagenesis screen for mutations that affect PSNS development, we identified a putative mutant, Sym3, showing a change in modeling of the TH staining cells in the region of the CC. Results and Conclusion: The TH-positive cells were scattered rather than conglomerated together as is typical of cells in the normal CC. The mutant was also characterized by a “curly-tail” phenotype. After the mutation was recovered from the F3 generation, heterozygous pairs harboring the mutation were identified. Using genome wide scanning PCR assay, linkage of the Sym3 mutation to microsatellite markers z9704 and z1351, located on Linkage Group 1, was established. Complementation assays were performed with other known “curly tail” mutants in the genetic interval, which revealed that Sym3 and a previously described vic mutant were in the same complementation group. The vic mutant is characterized by curved body axis, left to right asymmetry and kidney cysts and results from a mutation in the ARL13b gene, a protein of the Ras superfamily involved in intracellular trafficking and cilial motility. The vic mutation is a C to A transition at position 104 in the second exon of the open reading frame (T35L). The ARL13b gene in Sym3 has a four aa insertion at the 5’ end of the 4th exon of the coding region.The mutant Sym3 phenotype can be rescued by overexpression of the normal ARL13b gene. The vic mutant showed defective cilia formation in the kidney. However, immunocytochemistry showed normal cilia in the Sym3 mutant, suggesting that the Sym3 allele of ARL13b affects the development of alternative tissues during development, such as the aggregation of sympathetic neurons into discrete ganglia. Further functional characterization of the Sym3 mutation is ongoing. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

14071 Background: CD44 is a surface glycoprotein and has a key role for surface hyaluronan receptor, which is associated with adhesion and metastasis in many solid tumors. There are CD44 standard isoform (CD44s) and ten variant isoforms (CD44v1–10). CD44s and CD44 variant 6 (CD44v6) were evaluated to clarify the applicable prognostic factor in patients with bile duct carcinomas. Methods: A retrospective study was performed in bile duct carcinomas. Immunohistochemical stain was done with primary antibodies for CD44 (Novocastra, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK) and CD44v6 (Novocastra) using automated machine (Vision Biosystems, Mount Waverley, VIC, Australia) and bond polymer detection system with counterstain (Vision Biosystems) in paraffin embedded tissues. The extent of staining categorized as 0% (none), <10% (weak), 10%-50% (moderate), and >50% (strong). Clinical characteristics including age, sex, stage, grade and overall survival were reviewed. Results: Ninety six patients (M:F=35:61) were evaluated and the median age of these patients was 64 years old (37∼86). The rate of overexpression (>10%) of CD44s was 50% and the rate of CD44v6 expression was 16.9%. With median 34.2 months of follow up, the overall survival of total 96 patients was 12.2 months. The Cox proportional hazards test identified CD44s overexpression. (HR:2.379, 95% CI:1.195–4.736, p=0.014) and the stage as prognostic factors. But the expression of CD44v6 (weak vs. moderate to strong, HR:3.983, 95%CI:0.295–1.588, p=0.377) showed no prognostic significance on overall survival. Conclusion: CD44s overexpression can be a poor prognostic marker in bile duct carcinomas. And there is a potential to apply postoperative investigational or aggressive therapy in this poor prognostic group. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Aortic valve interstitial cells (VICs) constitute a heterogeneous population involved in the maintenance of unique valvular architecture, ensuring proper hemodynamic function but also engaged in valve degeneration. Recently, cells similar to telocytes/interstitial Cajal-like cells described in various organs were found in heart valves. The aim of this study was to examine the density, distribution, and spatial organization of a VIC subset co-expressing CD34 and PDGFRα in normal aortic valves and to investigate if these cells are associated with the occurrence of early signs of valve calcific remodeling. We examined 28 human aortic valves obtained upon autopsy. General valve morphology and the early signs of degeneration were assessed histochemically. The studied VICs were identified by immunofluorescence (CD34, PDGFRα, vimentin), and their number in standardized parts and layers of the valves was evaluated. In order to show the complex three-dimensional structure of CD34+/PDGFRα+ VICs, whole-mount specimens were imaged by confocal microscopy, and subsequently rendered using the Imaris (Bitplane AG, Zürich, Switzerland) software. CD34+/PDGFRα+ VICs were found in all examined valves, showing significant differences in the number, distribution within valve tissue, spatial organization, and morphology (spherical/oval without projections; numerous short projections; long, branching, occasionally moniliform projections). Such a complex morphology was associated with the younger age of the subjects, and these VICs were more frequent in the spongiosa layer of the valve. Both the number and percentage of CD34+/PDGFRα+ VICs were inversely correlated with the age of the subjects. Valves with histochemical signs of early calcification contained a lower number of CD34+/PDGFRα+ cells. They were less numerous in proximal parts of the cusps, i.e., areas prone to calcification. The results suggest that normal aortic valves contain a subpopulation of CD34+/PDGFRα+ VICs, which might be involved in the maintenance of local microenvironment resisting to pathologic remodeling. Their reduced number in older age could limit the self-regenerative properties of the valve stroma.

Abstract. We report continuous surface observations of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) from the Los Angeles (LA) Megacity Carbon Project during 2015. We devised a calibration strategy, methods for selection of background air masses, calculation of urban enhancements, and a detailed algorithm for estimating uncertainties in urban-scale CO2 and CH4 measurements. These methods are essential for understanding carbon fluxes from the LA megacity and other complex urban environments globally. We estimate background mole fractions entering LA using observations from four extra-urban sites including two marine sites located south of LA in La Jolla (LJO) and offshore on San Clemente Island (SCI), one continental site located in Victorville (VIC), in the high desert northeast of LA, and one continental/mid-troposphere site located on Mount Wilson (MWO) in the San Gabriel Mountains. We find that a local marine background can be established to within ∼ 1 ppm CO2 and ∼ 10 ppb CH4 using these local measurement sites. Overall, atmospheric carbon dioxide and methane levels are highly variable across Los Angeles. Urban and suburban sites show moderate to large CO2 and CH4 enhancements relative to a marine background estimate. The USC (University of Southern California) site near downtown LA exhibits median hourly enhancements of ∼ 20 ppm CO2 and ∼ 150 ppb CH4 during 2015 as well as ∼ 15 ppm CO2 and ∼ 80 ppb CH4 during mid-afternoon hours (12:00–16:00 LT, local time), which is the typical period of focus for flux inversions. The estimated measurement uncertainty is typically better than 0.1 ppm CO2 and 1 ppb CH4 based on the repeated standard gas measurements from the LA sites during the last 2 years, similar to Andrews et al. (2014). The largest component of the measurement uncertainty is due to the single-point calibration method; however, the uncertainty in the background mole fraction is much larger than the measurement uncertainty. The background uncertainty for the marine background estimate is ∼ 10 and ∼ 15 % of the median mid-afternoon enhancement near downtown LA for CO2 and CH4, respectively. Overall, analytical and background uncertainties are small relative to the local CO2 and CH4 enhancements; however, our results suggest that reducing the uncertainty to less than 5 % of the median mid-afternoon enhancement will require detailed assessment of the impact of meteorology on background conditions.

This article presents a new control method based on fuzzy controller, time delay estimation, deep learning, and non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-III for the nonlinear active mount systems. The proposed method, intelligent adapter fractions proportional–integral–derivative controller, is a smart combination of the time delay estimation control and intelligent fractions proportional–integral–derivative with adaptive control parameters following the speed range of engine rotation via the deep neural network with the optimal non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-III deep learning algorithm. Besides, we proposed optimal fuzzy logic controller with optimal parameters via particle swarm optimization algorithm to control reciprocal compensation to eliminate errors for intelligent adapter fractions proportional–integral–derivative controller. The control objective is to deal with the classical conflict between minimizing engine vibration impacts on the chassis to increase the ride comfort and keeping the dynamic wheel load small to ensure the ride safety. The results of this control method are compared with that of traditional proportional–integral–derivative controller systems, optimal proportional–integral–derivative controller parameter adjustment using genetic algorithms, linear–quadratic regulator control algorithms, and passive drive system mounts. The results are tested in both time and frequency domains to verify the success of the proposed optimal fuzzy logic controller–intelligent adapter fractions proportional–integral–derivative control system. The results show that the proposed optimal fuzzy logic controller–intelligent adapter fractions proportional–integral–derivative control system of the active engine mount system gives very good results in comfort and softness when riding compared with other controllers.

In this paper, vibration control performance of piezostack active engine mount system for unmanned aero vehicle (UAV) is evaluated via computer simulation. As a first step, the dynamic model of engine mount system which is supported at three points is derived. In the configuration of engine mount system, the inertia type of piezostack based active mount is installed for active vibration control. Then, the vibration level of UAV engine is measured. To attenuate the vibration which is transmitted from engine, a sliding mode controller which is robust to uncertain parameters is designed. Vibration control performances of active engine mount system are evaluated at each mount and center of gravity. Effective Control results are presented in both time and frequency domains.

This paper presents the experience in providing CERN users with direct online access to their EOS/CERNBox-powered user storage from Windows. In production for about 15 months, a High-Available Samba cluster is regularly used by a significant fraction of the CERN user base, following the migration of their central home folders from Microsoft DFS in the context of CERN’s strategy to move to open source solutions. We describe the configuration of the cluster, which is based on standard components: the EOS-backed CERNBox storage is mounted via FUSE, and an additional mount provided by CephFS is used to share the cluster’s state. Further, we describe some typical shortcomings of such a setup and how they were tackled. Finally, we show how such an additional access method fits in the bigger picture, where the storage is seamlessly accessed by user jobs, sync clients, FUSE/Samba mounts as well as the web UI, whilst aiming at a consistent view and user experience.

Magneto-rheological (MR) fluid mount demonstrates excellent performance of vibration isolation in a wide frequency range and potential application in engineering. In this paper, a new mixed mode MR mount is proposed and an analytical model is established and used to predict the performance of MR mount. Meantime, a six degrees of freedom dynamic model of an in-line four-cylinder engine which has three points mounting system is derived by considering the dynamic behaviors of MR mount and its state space form is established. LQR and fuzzy-logic controllers are designed and synthesized to actively control the imposed vibration. The simulation results show that the proposed LQR or fuzzy-logic controllers can isolate the vibration of vehicle engine in a wide frequency range. The amplitudes can be suppressed well by employing this mount system. Its effectiveness will be verified via experiment in the second part of this work.

A 69-year-old female presented to the emergency department after becoming unresponsive at home following a progressive decrease in her level of consciousness (LOC) (See Figure 1). An urgent computerized tomography (CT) scan of the head demonstrated large bilateral chronic subdural hematomas (SDH’s). Due to the resulting mass effect she was brought urgently to the operating room where the SDH’s were evacuated via anterior and posterior burr holes placed bilaterally. No complications were encountered during the procedure. Prior to skin closure bilateral subdural catheters were placed in the posterior burr hole sites and left under closed suction.

This article presents a practical application of experimental transfer path analysis (TPA) for optimizing idle shake vibrations of a front-wheel-drive car with a transversely mounted four-cylinder diesel engine. Performance control of the vehicle engine mounting system must take into account the multiple dynamic interactions between the engine mounting system, subframe modes and the vehicle suspension. Experimental methods can be used in conjunction with simulations to design and optimize the engine mounting system. TPA is a powerful tool for the diagnosis of vibration and noise transmission via multiple solid paths. TPA allows a quick diagnosis of the engine mounting system performances on vehicle comfort. A strong synergy between numerical model and experimental data finally makes it possible to find better design alternatives, not necessarily obvious to the designer. This study is the guideline for an optimization of the engine mount noise vibration and harshness (NVH) performances by using a hybrid approach, combining an analytical approach and measurement data. First, a diagnosis of the transmission of structure-borne vibrations via the engine mounting system to the seat floor is done at constant idle speed. This method is used to rank individual engine mount contributions in the low-frequency vibration level inside the vehicle. Then, an original approach allows the optimization of the vibration level at idle speed by offsetting contributions of the engine mount paths by adding damping in the right engine mount. This approach has led to the design and validation of an original double inertia-track hydroelastic mount prototype which allows a 5-dB reduction on the seat floor vibration level. The future development of a new version is planned to confirm and optimized the obtained results. The length of the second inertia track will be increased to reach the targeted characteristics, and the adjustment system will be removed to respect the overall dimension constraints of the mount.

This article proposes and validates the principle of a new magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) for powertrain mount systems of automobiles. The MRE DVA consists of a vibration absorption unit and a passive vibration isolation unit. The vibration absorption unit composed of a magnetic conductor, a shearing sleeve, a bobbin core, an electromagnetic coil, and a circular cylindrical MRE is utilized to absorb the vibration energy, and the passive vibration isolation unit is used to support the powertrain. The finite element method is employed to validate the electromagnetic circuit of the MRE DVA and obtain the electromagnetic characteristics. The theoretical frequency-shift principle is analyzed via the established constitutive equations of the circular cylindrical MRE In order to demonstrate how the parameters of the MRE influence the vibration attenuation performance, the MRE DVA is applied to a powertrain mount system to replace the conventional passive mount. The frequency-shift property of the vibration absorption unit and the vibration attenuation performance of the MRE DVA on the powertrain mount system are experimentally tested. To validate and improve the vibration attenuation performance for the semi-active powertrain mount systems, an optimal variable step algorithm is proposed for the MRE DVA and numerical experiments are carried out.

ABSTRACTViruses affect biogeochemical cycling, microbial mortality, gene flow, and metabolic functions in diverse environments through infection and lysis of microorganisms. Fundamental to quantitatively investigating these roles is the determination of viral abundance in both field and laboratory samples. One current, widely used method to accomplish this with aquatic samples is the “filter mount” method, in which samples are filtered onto costly 0.02-μm-pore-size ceramic filters for enumeration of viruses by epifluorescence microscopy. Here we describe a cost-effective (ca. 500-fold-lower materials cost) alternative virus enumeration method in which fluorescently stained samples are wet mounted directly onto slides, after optional chemical flocculation of viruses in samples with viral concentrations of <5 × 107viruses ml−1. The concentration of viruses in the sample is then determined from the ratio of viruses to a known concentration of added microsphere beads via epifluorescence microscopy. Virus concentrations obtained by using this wet-mount method, with and without chemical flocculation, were significantly correlated with, and had precision equivalent to, those obtained by the filter mount method across concentrations ranging from 2.17 × 106to 1.37 × 108viruses ml−1when tested by using cultivated viral isolates and natural samples from marine and freshwater environments. In summary, the wet-mount method is significantly less expensive than the filter mount method and is appropriate for rapid, precise, and accurate enumeration of aquatic viruses over a wide range of viral concentrations (≥1 × 106viruses ml−1) encountered in field and laboratory samples.

Ageratina adenophora (Spreng.) R.M.King & H.Rob. is one of the most threatening invasive alien plants in China. Since its initial invasion into Yunnan in the 1940s, it spread rapidly northward to southern Mount Nyba in Sichuan, which lies on the eastern edge of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. During fieldwork, we found an interesting phenomenon: A. adenophora failed to expand northward across Mount Nyba, even after the opening of the 10 km tunnel, which could have served as a potential corridor for its spread. In this work, to explore the key factors influencing its distribution and spread patterns, we used a combination of ensemble species distribution models with the MigClim model. We found that the temperature annual range (TAR), precipitation of driest month (PDM), highway density (HW), and wind speed (WS) were the most predominant factors affecting its distribution. The north of Mount Nyba is not suitable for A. adenophora survival due to higher TAR. The spatial–temporal dynamic invasion simulation using MigClim further illustrated that the northward invasion of A. adenophora was stopped by Mount Nyba. Overall, Mount Nyba may act as a topographic barrier that causes environmental differences between its south and north sides, preventing the northward invasion of A. adenophora. However, other suitable habitats on the northern side of the mountain still face challenges because A. adenophora is likely to invade via other routes. Therefore, long-term monitoring is needed to prevent human-induced long-distance spread events.

For an efficient design of hydraulic mounts, it is most important to have a good mathematical model available, which must be simple yet capable of representing dynamic characteristics of the hydraulic mounts accurately. Under high amplitude excitations in the low-frequency range, the hydraulic mounts show strongly frequency-dependent stiffness and damping characteristics, which are related with so-called inertia track dynamics. Since nonlinear damping models based on fluid mechanics are typically used to predict the dynamic characteristics of the hydraulic mounts, relations between various design variables, such as geometry of the inertia track, and resultant stiffness and damping characteristics are understood only by tedious numerical computations. In this paper, the use of an equivalent viscous damping model—derived from a nonlinear model and represented in terms of design variables in an explicit manner—is proposed and, based on the equivalent linear model, are presented simple as well as very useful formulas for an efficient design of the hydraulic mounts.

Purpose This paper aims to demonstrate the improved functionality of additive manufacturing technology provided by combining multiple processes for the fabrication of packaged electronics. Design/methodology/approach This research is focused on the improvement in resolution of conductor deposition methods through experimentation with build parameters. Material dispensing with two different low temperature curing isotropic conductive adhesive materials was characterised for their application in printing each of three different conductor designs, traces, z-axis connections and fine pitch flip chip interconnects. Once optimised, demonstrator size can be minimised within the limitations of the chosen processes and materials. Findings The proposed method of printing z-axis through layer connections was successful with pillars 2 mm in height and 550 µm in width produced. Dispensing characterisation also resulted in tracks 134 µm in width and 38 µm in height allowing surface mount assembly of 0603 components and thin-shrink small outline packaged integrated circuits. Small 149-µm flip chip interconnects deposited at a 457-µm pitch have also been used for packaging silicon bare die. Originality/value This paper presents an improved multifunctional additive manufacturing method to produce fully packaged multilayer electronic systems. It discusses the development of new 3D printed, through layer z-axis connections and the use of a single electrically conductive adhesive material to produce all conductors. This facilitates the surface mount assembly of components directly onto these conductors before stereolithography is used to fully package multiple layers of circuitry in a photopolymer.

An optimized driving comfort with a low interior noise level is an important intention in the passenger car development process. The interior noise level caused by the dynamic interaction between the rolling tyre and the rough road surface and transmitted via the car-body is a significant component of the entire noise level. To reduce the road induced interior noise, in general, the chassis system has to be optimized. Passive measures often induces a trade-off between vehicle dynamics and driving comfort. To overcome this disadvantage in this paper, the development and realization of an active measure is proposed. For the purpose of active mechanical decoupling, an active control system is developed, the feasibility of the integration is investigated and its noise reduction potential is identified by vehicle tests. In a first step, a classical multi-channel and experimental-based structure-borne transfer path analysis of the full vehicle is realized to determine the dominant transfer paths. The concept for the active mount system (active mounts, multi-channel control system, sensors) is developed and parametrized by system level simulation. Mechanical components and power electronics of the active system are designed, manufactured and tested in the laboratory. Subsequently, the entire active system is integrated into the vehicle. The broadband adaptive feedforward algorithm is extended by certain measures in order to improve robustness and performance. Full vehicle tests are used to quantify the required specifications and the achieved effectiveness of the active vibration control system.

Variable stiffness f2mc are investigated for vibration isolation through analysis and experiments. The f2mc are novel structures that have been shown to achieve significant changes in stiffness through simple valve control. The objective of this research is to develop analysis tools to investigate the f2mc variable modulus system for semi-active vibration isolation and to validate the results through experiments. A non-linear analytical model of an isolation mount based on the f2mc tube with a proportional valve is developed. Analysis results indicate that the f2mc-based isolation mount is effective for reducing the force transmitted to the foundation and that the transmissibility ratio can be tuned via proportional valve control. Experimental results agree with analysis results and validate semi-active vibration isolation using a proportional valve.

Near Mount Wills, several compositionally zoned rare-element pegmatites contain complex assemblages of primary and secondary phosphate minerals, many of which are rare and previously unrecorded in Victoria. The phosphate assemblages can be divided into Al-rich and Fe–Mn-rich suites, in addition to ubiquitous fluorapatite. The Al-rich phosphate suite includes montebrasite, scorzalite, bertossaite and brazilianite. The Fe‒Mn phosphate suite includes heterosite, phosphoferrite, wolfeite, alluaudite (sp.), arrojadite (sp.) and jahnsite (sp.), derived from the metasomatic alteration of primary triplite. Further hydrothermal alteration of this assemblage has resulted in a secondary suite of strengite, rockbridgeite, phosphosiderite, whiteite, jahnsite and whitmoreite forming in etch cavities and fractures. A Late Silurian age of 420±4 Ma was obtained from one of the dykes via CHIME radiometric dating of monazite, suggesting a similar age for the adjacent Mount Wills Granite, which has not been reliably dated. This highly fractionated, peraluminous granite is presumed to be the source of the rare-element pegmatites based on their close spatial relationship.

The enteric nervous system (ENS) probably plays a dominant role in sheep scrapie pathogenesis, but little is known about the cell types involved. We investigated the ileal myenteric and submucosal plexuses of four naturally and four orally experimentally scrapie-affected ARQ/ARQ Sarda sheep, as well as those of 12 healthy-control Sarda sheep carrying different PrP genotypes. All scrapie-affected animals, euthanized at clinical-disease end stage, showed PrPd deposition within enteric glial cells (EGCs) and calbindin-immunoreactive (CALB-IR) and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS)-IR neurons. Whole-mount investigations revealed no significant differences between the densities of total, CALB-IR and nNOS-IR neurons in scrapie-affected versus healthy sheep, irrespective of PrP genotype. Our results suggest that EGCs and CALB-IR and nNOS-IR neurons are probably involved in the pathogenesis of natural and oral experimental sheep scrapie. Furthermore, the infectious agent may be less pathogenic towards ENS neurons than it is towards central nervous system neurons.

The Blue Lake is an important water resource for the city of Mount Gambier and the surrounding region, primarily as the drinking water supply source, but also as a tourist attraction. Mount Gambier’s stormwater is discharged directly via drainage wells into the unconfined, karstic Gambier Limestone aquifer, which in turn provides the majority of recharge to Blue Lake. Discharge of urban runoff to the aquifer commenced in the 1800s as a means of stormwater management, but is now recognised as contributing to the drinking water supply in Blue Lake. Recently, guidelines for managing the risks associated with water recycling and augmenting drinking water supplies have been developed. This paper examines the organic chemical hazards associated with a stormwater to potable recycling scheme as an example of the current risk management framework.

This research was conducted to determine the effect of Mount Agung eruption on the production of sculpture in Sebatu Village, Tegallalang District, Gianyar Regency. The types of data and sources of data used are qualitative, primary and secondary data. Data collection is conducted by observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. Analysis of the data used was qualitative data analysis to seek the relationship between the influence of the Mount Agung eruption on the qaunitity of sculpture production and the distribution network of sculpture crafts in Sebatu Village. The results of this study indicate that sculpture crafts produced in Sebatu Village are a type of contemporary sculpture that is dominated by animal statues. The production capacity of sculpture crafts in Sebatu village after the eruption of Mount Agung has increased, contrary to when the eruption occurred tourists could not come directly to order sculpture and their production capacity had declined. The working system of sculpture craftsmen has started to run normally with increasing production capacity. The distribution network of sculpture crafts in Sebatu Village can be distributed in five ways through distribution to the Sukawati art market, Balinese souvenirs, shipping by sea, shipping via cargo and distribution to the villa. From the conclusion, the Gianyar Regency Government should provide capital support for the sculpture industry, especially in Sebatu Village, Tegallalang District.There is a need to increase capital for handicraft business owners by providing financial or credit assistance for sculpture.Thus, there will be many entrepreneurs who are growing and increasing their production. Moult of feathers entails considerable physiological and energetic costs to an avian organism. Even under favourable feeding conditions, endogenous body stores and energy reserves of moulting birds are usually severely depleted. Thus, most species of birds separate moult from other energy-demanding activities, such as migration or reproduction. Common snipeGallinago gallinagois an exception, as during the first autumn migration many young snipe initiate the post-juvenile moult, which includes replacement of body feathers, lesser and median wing coverts, tertials, and rectrices. Here, we evaluated moult-related changes in blood plasma biochemistry of the common snipe during a period of serious trade-off in energy allocation between moult and migration. For this purpose, concentrations of basic metabolites in plasma were evaluated in more than 500 young snipe migrating through Central Europe. We found significant changes in the plasma concentrations of total protein, triglyceride and glucose over the course of moult, while the concentrations of uric acid and albumin did not change. Total protein concentration increased significantly in the initial stage of moult, probably as a result of increased production of keratin, but it decreased to the pre-moult level at the advanced stage of moult. Plasma triglyceride concentration decreased during the period of tertial and rectrice moult, which reflected depletion of endogenous fat reserves. By contrast, glucose concentration increased steadily during the course of moult, which could be caused by increased catabolism of triglycerides (via gluconeogenesis) or, alternatively, due to increased glucocorticoids as a stress response. Our results suggest that physiological changes associated with moult may be considered important determinants of the low pace of migration typical of the common snipe.

Abstract INTRODUCTION: Glioblastoma (GBM) represents the deadliest primary intracranial neoplasm. While many studies have focused on T cell responses to GBM, few have examined the role of humoral immunity. Here, we sought mechanistic insights into the anatomy and function of the humoral response against GBM. METHODS: C57BL/6J mice were injected stereotactically with syngeneic SB28 tumor cells. Humoral immunity was evaluated in the spleen and blood by high parameter flow cytometry and the meninges, brain, and spleen by confocal microscopy. The function importance of humoral immunity was interrogated using CD4-/- and IgA-/- mice and via transcranial application of the plasma cell survival factor, APRIL. RESULTS: High parameter flow cytometry revealed a significant increase of plasma B cells (CD19+, CD138+) in the spleen and blood of GBM mice within two weeks. Using blimp-1 reporter mice, we observed that IgA+ plasma cells localized to extrafollicular splenic regions and along meningeal dural venous sinuses near newly generated blood and lymphatic vessels that connected directly to the tumor. Decreased survival was observed in IgA-/- but not CD4-/- mice injected with SB28 cells, suggesting that a T helper independent IgA response plays a role in controlling GBM. This response was enhanced therapeutically by transcranial application of APRIL. CONCLUSION: Our results demonstrate that GBM elicits a systemic and meningeal humoral response, which plays in limiting GBM growth and can be transcranially enhanced via APRIL. The participation of IgA+ plasma cells in GBM immunity offers new possibilities for therapeutic intervention in this deadly disease.

This paper explores the effects of cement stabilization (5, 10, 15 and 20 wt%) on the structural and mechanical properties (compressive/flexural strengths and fracture toughness) of abandoned termite mound soil. The crystal structures and crystallinity of the constituents were determined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), while the microstructure was characterized via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The functional groups were also identified using Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR). The compressive/flexural strengths of the stabilized and un-stabilized termite mound soil were also studied after curing for 7, 14 and 28 days. The fracture toughness mechanism was analyzed with the aid of the R-curve method. Additionally, the underlying deformation and cracking mechanisms are elucidated via in-situ/ex-situ optical and scanning electron microscopy. The stabilized termite mound soil displayed the highest mechanical properties of 13.91 MPa, 10.25 MPa and 3.52 kPa·m1/2 for compressive strength, flexural strength and fracture toughness, respectively. Besides displaying good mechanical properties and being locally available at no cost, renewable and an eco-friendly material, the termite mound soil will contribute to lowering the cost of housing in Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in Chad.

Seventeen-month-old seedlings from three fraser fir (Abies fraseri [Pursh] Poir.) seed sources (Mount Mitchell, Richland Balsam and Roan Mountain) were inoculated in an outdoor lath house with five genotypes of Phytophthora cinnamomi Rands. After 122 days, overall mortality was 90.5% with significant (p ≤ 0.07) differences among seed sources. The Mount Mitchell source had lower mortality (83.2%) than the Roan Mountain source (95.8%), while the Richland Balsam source (92.5%) was intermediate. Mortality curves were developed using nonlinear regression (Richards' function). Due to a significant seed source × inoculum genotype interaction (p ≤ 0.0001), equations were developed for each combination of seed source and inoculum genotype. Results suggest that while the overall frequency of resistance in fraser fir is low, seed sources differ in their frequency of resistance and that more than one resistance gene may be present. Survivors from this or similar inoculations could be cloned via grafting or rooted cuttings for further resistance testing and/or grafted into a Phytophthora-resistant fraser fir seed orchard.

This paper investigates the evolution of customer service in the pilgrimage tourist industry, focusing on Mount Athos. In doing so, it empirically deconstructs the dialectics of the synthesis of “authentic experience” between “pilgrims” and “tourists” via a set of internal and external reciprocal exchanges that take place between monks and visitors in two rival neighboring monasteries. The paper shows how the traditional value of hospitality is being reinvented and reappropriated according to the personalized needs of the market of faith. In this context, the paper shows how traditional monastic roles, such as those of the guest-master and the sacristan, have been reinvented, along with traditional practices such as that of confession, within the wider turn to relational subjectivity and interest in spirituality. Following this, the material illustrates how counter claims to “authenticity” emerge as an arena of reinvention and contestation out of the competition between rival groups of monks and their followers, arguing that pilgrimage on Athos requires from visitors their full commitment and active involvement in their role as “pilgrims”. The claim to “authenticity” is a matter of identity and the means through which a visitor is transformed from a passive “tourist” to an active “pilgrim”.

Clinical pharmacy service delivery is currently a significant challenge in remote areas. Mount Isa Base Hospital provides clinical pharmacy support to ten remote sites across an area of over 300,000 square kilometres. These sites do not have on-site pharmacists available and, due to the vast distances and unpredictable travel conditions, the outreach pharmacist from Mount Isa Base Hospital only visits sporadically. Provision of direct patient care and advice on medication safety with this model was restricted and insufficient. Telepharmacy provides an opportunity for these services to be vastly expanded. In an attempt to increase pharmacist accessibility for remote hospital sites, the Mount Isa Base Hospital pharmacy department developed an inpatient telepharmacy service. Telehealth equipment is being used to communicate directly with patients and hospital staff, review inpatient medication charts, generate patient medication lists, identify and resolve clinical interventions and provide medication-related advice and counselling. As a result of this implementation, all patients and health professionals in remote north-west Queensland hospitals now have access to a pharmacist. The number of inpatient medication reviews, clinical interventions and patient–pharmacist/clinician–pharmacist interactions occurring at each remote hospital site has increased. Since service initiation, 106 medication-related reviews have been completed via telepharmacy, including 48 patient interactions, and 111 medication-related interventions have been made. This paper outlines the process for the development of an inpatient telepharmacy service for remote hospitals and discusses the benefits and limitations associated with implementation.

How does the Third Solitude of Montreal Mystics engender a tearing of self, at once, away from the other and inscribing within the Canadian landscape? The motif of tearing is used as a comparative lens for investigating the shroud of Third Solitude of two Montreal Jewish Mystics: Leonard Cohen (1934–2016) and the current Tosher rebbe, Rabbi Elimelech Halevi Segal-Loewy, as well as his late father, Rabbi Meshulam Feish Segal-Loewy (1924–2015). This essay analyzes the process of Leonard Cohen tearing away from cultural boundaries of a Westmount cosmopolitan Jewish upbringing, blossoming into a bohemian bard-kohen who returns as a contemplative mystical Jew from Mount Baldy to Israel via Tel Aviv and back to Montreal. By contrast the Tosher rebbe’s tearing away that began in Nyirtass, Hungary is then transplanted in post-Shoah context into the accommodement raisonable of the Plateau Mont-Royal in Montreal eventually exiling to Kiryas Tosh in Boisbriand. The essay explores how the Tosher rebbe radicalizes Third Solitude without separation by tearing away from surrounding Quebecois culture through ascetic strategies, while Cohen tears away from rampant assimilation and spiritual apathy of his Montreal Jewish upbringing. Both mystics wander through the archetypal Northern landscape of Montreal that has become mythologized in these unique moments of tearing through the metaphysical shroud of Third Solitude.Comment la troisième solitude des mystiques montréalais engendre-t-elle un déchirement de soi, à la fois loin de l’autre et s’inscrivant dans le paysage canadien ? The purpose of this investigation was to demonstrate the potential of remote, mobile telemedicine during a four-week, high-altitude mountaineering expedition to Mount Logan, Canada's highest summit. Using a mobile satellite terminal and a laptop computer (both powered by a photovoltaic solar panel), ECG tracings and blood pressure measurements, in addition to colour images, short-segment video and audio clips were transmitted during the course of the ascent. The data were transmitted via a mobile communications satellite to a ground station in Ottawa, a distance of over 4000 km. The data were then transferred to the publics witched data network and delivered to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute for analysis. Similarly, data were transmitted from the ground station to the expedition team on Mount Logan throughout the ascent. Using this technique, medical diagnosis and emergency care can be facilitated in extreme and isolated locations lacking a telecommunications infrastructure. Such technology has applications in developing countries, disaster response efforts, remote civilian and military operations, and in space operations.

We investigated the influence of the extracellular nitric oxide (NO) level on male copulatory behavior. We confirmed the changes of nitrite ([Formula: see text]) and nitrate ([Formula: see text]) in the medial preoptic area (MPOA) by administration of the NO precursorl-arginine (l-Arg, 10 mM) or the NO synthase inhibitor N G-monomethyl-l-arginine (l-NMMA, 10 mM) via a dialysis probe. [Formula: see text] and[Formula: see text] were measured simultaneously by an in vivo microdialysis method coupled with the Griess reaction.l-Arg induced significant elevations of extracellular [Formula: see text]and [Formula: see text].l-NMMA significantly reduced[Formula: see text] and[Formula: see text] levels. We observed male copulatory behavior during infusion ofl-Arg orl-NMMA. The mount rate of male rats significantly increased during infusion ofl-Arg in the MPOA. Administration of l-NMMA reduced the mount rate. These findings suggested that the elevation of extracellular NO in the MPOA facilitates male copulatory behavior of rats, whereas the decrease of NO reduces their copulatory behavior.

This study was carried out to investigate the indigenous use and pharmacological activity of traditional medicinal plants of Mount Taibai, China. Pharmacological data were collected by conducting informal interviews with local experienced doctors practicing traditional Chinese medicine and via open-ended questionnaires on villagers. We conclude that the residents of Mt. Taibai possess rich pharmacological knowledge. This study may help identify high-value traditional medicinal plant species, promote economic development associated with local medicinal plants, and increase awareness from government departments.

OBJECTIVES/SPECIFIC AIMS: The study aims to (1) investigate the structural patterns of professional communication that exist at the Mount Sinai Health Hackathon (2) explore if and how the professional networks of the participants change after engaging in the Mount Sinai Health Hackathon (3) explore any associations between the characteristics of participants’ professional networks and successful innovation development. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: The recruitment pool consists of all 78 Mount Sinai Health Hackathon 2018 participants. Characteristics of the social network of Health Hackathon participants are assessed via an SNA data collection instrument at three time points: T1 directly before the Health Hackathon event, T2 directly after the event, T3 six months post-event. The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Institutional Review Board approved this study as exempt. In order to explore patterns of communication between Health Hackathon participants during event, whole network data is collected at T2. Participants are provide with a roster of Mount Sinai Health hackathon participant names and asked to report the nature, frequency and perceived importance of their interaction with each of the other participants over the duration of the 48 hour event. In order capture any network change in the wider professional networks of the individual participants, known as “ego networks”, participants are asked to complete an SNA ego network survey at time points T1, T2 and T3. Open ended questions asked participants to report up to 20 people they consider being most important to them in their professional network and record the professional background of each person, the nature of the communication and the importance of each person to their success. Finally, at T3 participants are also asked to report on their project success (determined by businesses formed, filed provisional patents, financial income generation). This will be reviewed in relation to their social network data, to see if there is any relationship between the two. Data is analyzed using the specialized SNA software, UCiNET, which creates network sociograms to visualize network data. Descriptive statistics are used to report individual-level characteristics of respondents.RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: To describe the structural patterns of communication at each time point, the following network-level indices are calculated: density (a measure of network cohesion), degree centrality (how many connections the individual has), betweenness centrality (whether the individual provides connections to other people in a network) and closeness centrality (how close the individual is to other people in the network). Network sociograms are generated for each time point to provide a visualization of the network. To explore the hypothesis that participating in the Mount Sinai Health Hackathon increases diversity of a professional network, analysis will focus on whether and how network-level indices change pre- and post- Hackathon. It will also explore any association between network characteristics and project success. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE OF IMPACT: Social Network Analysis of the Mount Sinai Health Hackathon provides an understanding about the structure of relationships that are formed as a result of participation in this event. Although, the design of this study does not allow for inferences of causality, the SNA approach enables an in-depth exploration of Hackathon participants’ professional networks, how these evolve over time and how certain network characteristics may be associated with project success. This information will be used to inform the development, content and delivery of future Health Hackathon initatives.

This paper analyses the possibility to apply energy refurbishment measures in restored historic buildings in order to ensure reuse. The objective of the paper is to provide an appropriate methodology for the structural restoration of historic buildings, their re-use and sustainable energy refurbishment in accordance with current needs and conservation principles. The study provides the analysis and evaluation of the realized goals regarding energy refurbishment and energy efficiency. The presented historic buildings belong to Hilandar Monastery, Mount Athos, Greece. Mount Athos has been listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site for decades. The paper deals with the expert analysis of abandoned and devastated structures included in the Haybarn Complex. This paper provides a positive outcome of the performed restoration in terms of energy refurbishment and repurpose, since these buildings were turned into unique accommodation facilities for visitors. This accomplishment can be seen as a useful recommendation for improving energy efficiency of historic buildings during their restoration. All the undertaken methods are in accordance with the environmental protection requirements. This study is a practical observation and analysis of energy refurbishment in the field of restoration of listed buildings. This certainly is the most important contribution of this paper. All energy efficiency measures and renewable energy sources were carried out in compliance with conservation requirements and visual authenticity of historic structures. Assessment and analysis of energy efficient refurbishment via building performance simulation method and energy efficiency optimization was applied to several different models of restoration that was carried out in the Haybarn Complex.

Natural human cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is characterized by a strain-specific neutralizing antibody response. This is particularly relevant in clinical settings such as transplantation and pregnancy where reinfection with heterologous strains occurs and the immune system does not mount an effective response against the infecting strain due to underlying immunosuppression. There is an emerging argument that a CMV vaccine that induces high titres of cross-neutralizing antibodies will be more effective in protecting individuals from infection with antigenically different CMV strains. In addition, induction of cell-mediated immunity offers the additional advantage of targeting virus-infected cells. This study presents a novel formulation of a CMV vaccine that, by combining recombinant soluble gB protein with a Toll-like receptor 9 agonist (CpG ODN1826) and immune-stimulating complexes (AbISCO 100), was able to elicit strong polyfunctional CMV-specific cellular and cross-neutralizing humoral immune responses. These data demonstrated that prime–boost immunization of human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-A2 mice with gB protein in combination with CpG ODN1826 and AbISCO 100 induced long-lasting CMV-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell and humoral responses. Furthermore, these responses neutralized infection with multiple strains of CMV expressing different gB genotypes and afforded protection against challenge with recombinant vaccinia virus encoding the gB protein. These observations argue that this novel vaccine strategy, if applied to humans, should facilitate the generation of a robust, pluripotent immune response, which may be more effective in preventing infection with multiple strains of CMV.
