AbstractCharacterising cellulose nanofibre (CNF) morphology has been identified as a grand challenge for the nanocellulose research field. Direct techniques for CNF morphology characterisation exhibit various difficulties related to the material network structure and equipment cost, while indirect techniques that investigate fibre-light interaction, fibre-solvent interaction, fibre-fibre interaction, or specific fibre surface area involve relatively facile methods but may be more unreliable. Nanopaper mechanical testing is a prevalent metric for assessing fibre-fibre interaction, but is an off-line, time-consuming, and destructive methodology. In this study, an optical fibre morphology analyser (MorFi, Techpap) was employed as an on-line, high throughput, fast turnaround tool to assess micro/nanofibre pulp morphology and predict the properties of nanopaper material. Correlation analysis identified fibre content and fibre kink properties as most correlated with nanopaper strength and toughness, while fibre width and coarseness were most inversely correlated with nanopaper performance. Principal component analysis (PCA) was employed to visualise interdependent morphological and mechanical data. Subsequently, two data driven statistical models—multiple linear regression (MLR) and machine learning based support vector regression (SVR)—were established to predict nanopaper properties from fibre morphology data, with SVR generating a more accurate prediction across all nanopaper properties (NRMSE = 0.13–0.33) compared to the MLR model (NRMSE = 0.33–0.51). This study highlights that statistical methods are useful to disentangle and visualise interdependent morphological data from an on-line fibre analysis device, while regression models are also capable of predicting paper mechanical properties from CNF samples even though these devices do not operate at nanoscale resolution. RNA editing in plant mitochondria and plastids converts specific nucleotides from cytidine (C) to uridine (U). These editing events differ among plant species and are relevant to developmental stages or are impacted by environmental conditions. Proteins of the MORF family are essential components of plant editosomes. One of the members, MORF9, is considered the core protein of the editing complex and is involved in the editing of most sites in chloroplasts. In this study, the phenotypes of a T-DNA insertion line with loss of MORF9 and of the genetic complementation line of Arabidopsis were analyzed, and the editing efficiencies of plastid RNAs in roots, rosette leaves, and flowers from the morf9 mutant and the wild-type (WT) control were compared by bulk-cDNA sequencing. The results showed that most of the known MORF9-associated plastid RNA editing events in rosette leaves and flowers were similarly reduced by morf9 mutation, with the exception that the editing rate of the sites ndhB-872 and psbF-65 declined in the leaves and that of ndhB-586 decreased only in the flowers. In the roots, however, the loss of MORF9 had a much lower effect on overall plastid RNA editing, with nine sites showing no significant editing efficiency change, including accD-794, ndhD-383, psbZ-50, ndhF-290, ndhD-878, matK-706, clpP1-559, rpoA-200, and ndhD-674, which were reduced in the other tissues. Furthermore, we found that during plant aging, MORF9 mRNA level, but not the protein level, was downregulated in senescent leaves. On the basis of these observations, we suggest that MORF9-mediated RNA editing is tissue-dependent and the resultant organelle proteomes are pertinent to the specific tissue functions.

The antioxidant properties and total phenolic contents of four fractions of ethanolic extract from Ramulus mori were examined. Various experimental models including superoxide radical, hydroxyl radical, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radicals (DPPH) scavenging activity, metal chelating activity, and reducing power were used for characterization of their antioxidant activity. The four fractions showed various degrees of efficacy in each assay in a dose-dependent manner. The third fraction with the highest amount of total phenolics was the most potent antioxidant in all assays used. In addition, the most powerful compound (oxyresveratrol) was isolated and identified followed by on-line HPLC method and characterized by different spectral analysis. Oxyresveratrol exhibited impressive antioxidant activities in scavenging the superoxide radical, hydroxide radical, and DPPH. On the basis of the results obtained, Ramulus mori may serve as a potential source of natural antioxidant due to its significant antioxidant activity and oxyresveratrol may be the most powerful antioxidant in ethanolic extracts of Ramulus mori.

In the present study, line× tester analysis was carried out at Castor-Mustard Research Station, S. D. Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar, Gujarat, India during rabi 2018–19 (October 2018 to February 2019) in order to estimate all three types of heterosis (relative heterosis, heterobeltiosis and economic heterosis) for identification of superior cross combinations of Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (L.) Czern&Coss]. Thirty-five hybrids along with five CMS lines, seven testers and check GDM 4 were evaluated for ten different traits. The F1 generation of all the crosses exhibited fertility restoration with pollen fertility except F1 crosses with Vardan, Rohini and SKM 319 fertile line (0%). The remaining crosses exhibited pollen fertility ranging from 68.26% (Kranti×SKM 303) to 85.17% (Kranti×Mori ‘R’ 1-18). The analysis of variance for parents, hybrids and parents vs. hybrids revealed that mean sum of squares of parents were highly significant for majority of the characters except days to maturity. Whereas, hybrids differed highly significant for all the characters. Comparison of mean squares due to parents vs. hybrids was found significant for almost all the characters except number of seeds siliqua-1 and oil content. This indicates that considerable amount of genetic variability present among the parents and hybrids for all the characters studied. On the basis of per se performance, three hybrids viz., Kranti×Mori ‘R’ 1-18, SKM 9928×PusaAgrani and SKM 9928×Mori ‘R’ 1-18 were foundpromising for seed yield plant-1 over the standard check GDM 4.With respect to heterosis, one of the hybrid Kranti×Mori ‘R’ 1-18 (17.85 %)manifested significant and positive standard heterosis for seed yield plant-1.

ABSTRACT The effect of modifiers on recombination frequency between Ze and lem loci on chromosome 3 to elucidate the chromosome specificity of modification and the distribution of modifiers using Bombyx mori lines selected for high (H) and low (L) recombination rates between the pS and Y loci in chromosome 2 was investigated. By crossing to the Z (Ze lem/++) line, the recombination rate between the pS and Y loci in chromosome 2 was decreased from 28.18 to 23.33 in the H line and was increased from 4.92 to 16.05 in the L line. On the other hand, the recombination rate between the Ze and lem loci in chromosome 3 was increased from 16.21 to 20.21 in the Z line by crossing to the H line, but also increased to 19.02 by crossing to the L line. The significant correlation observed between the transformed recombination rates of chromosomes 2 and 3 in the (Z × L) × L backcross indicated that there were common factors modifying recombination frequency in chromosomes 2 and 3 or different factors linked to the same chromosomes. In the family of L × [(Z × L) × L] backcross, the distribution of transformed recombination rates indicated that there were several factors in the remaining chromosomes which were modifying recombination frequency in chromosome 2 but not in chromosome 3. It was also indicated that these factors were linked to different chromosomes than are the factors modifying recombination frequency in chromosome 3. In order to interpret these results, one genetic system model controlling recombination that consists of general and local recombination modifiers was proposed. The evolution of dynamic genetic systems that would effectively reduce recombinational load without reducing the advantage of recombination was discussed.

High-performance fibroin fibres are ideal candidates for the manufacture of scaffolds with applications in tissue engineering due to the excellent mechanical properties and optimal biocompatibility of this protein. In this work, the manufacture of high-strength fibres made from the silk glands of Samia cynthia ricini is explored. The glands were subjected to soaking in aqueous dissolutions of acetic acid and stretched to manufacture the fibres. The materials produced were widely characterized, in terms of morphology, mechanical properties, crystallinity and content of secondary structures, comparing them with those produced by the standard procedure published for Bombyx mori. In addition, mechanical properties and biocompatibility of a braided scaffold produced from these fibres was evaluated. The results obtained show that the fibres from B. mori present a higher degree of crystallinity than those from S. c. ricini, which is reflected in higher values of elastic modulus and lower values of strain at break. Moreover, a decrease in the elongation values of the fibres from S. c. ricini was observed as the concentration of acetic acid was increased during the manufacture. On the other hand, the study of the braided scaffolds showed higher values of tensile strength and strain at break in the case of S. c. ricini materials and similar values of elastic modulus, compared to those of B. mori, displaying both scaffolds optimal biocompatibility using a fibroblast cell line.

The collision-induced absorption (CIA) spectrum for nitrogen has been measured in the spectral region below 360 cm−1 at 126, 149, 179, and 212 K. The measurements have been obtained using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) techniques, a far infrared (FIR) laser system operating at 84.2 and 15.1 cm−1, and microwave cavity techniques. The experimental line shapes have been compared with the theoretical predictions of Joslin, based on Mori theory, and of Joslin and Gray, based on information theory alone. The data have been used to determine the quadrupole moment employing various intermolecular potentials. One Lennard–Jones potential has resulted in a quadrupole moment of 1.51 B, the value that was used in generating the theoretical line shapes. These results, when combined with our forthcoming measurements on nitrogen mixed with methane and argon, may be helpful in determining the role of CIA in calculating the opacity of some planetary atmospheres.

Among the major cardiovascular risk factors an important place is occupied by dyslipidemia. There is clear evidence that increased serum total cholesterol and low density fraction of cholesterol (LDLc) are associated with increased risk of coronary and cerebrovascular events. The therapeutic intervention on hyperlipidemia improves cardiovascular morbi-mortality. The most important class of drugs used in the last three decades to lower cholesterol is represented by HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, generically called statins. Their benefit, regarding cardiovascular diseases, has been proven both in primary and in the secondary prevention. With a good tolerability and a good safety profile, statins remain the first line choice in dyslipidemic and even in normolipidemic patients, but with an increased risk of cardiovascular events.

Phylloporia moricola is described as a new species based on collections from Sichuan Province, China. All studied basidiocarps grow on trunks of Morus sp. This new species is supported by morphological features and phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequences inferred from a dataset of nuc 28S rDNA. P. moricola is characterized by having effused-reflexed to pileate basidiocarps, pores 7–9 per mm, duplex context with a black line when young, dimitic hyphal system, and brownish, slightly thick-walled basidiospores generally measuring 3.4–4 × 2.7–3.2 μm. Phylloporia moricola is phylogenetically most closely related to Phylloporia mori, that also occurs on Morus sp., but that species differs from P. moricola in having hymenial setae and larger basidiospores (4–4.8 × 3.1–3.8 μm).

Classic methods of machining cylindrical gears, such as hobbing or circumferential chiseling, require the use of expensive special machine tools and dedicated tools, which makes production unprofitable, especially in small and medium series. Today, special attention is paid to the technology of making gears using universal CNC (computer numerical control) machine tools with standard cheap tools. On the basis of the presented mathematical model, a software was developed to generate a code that controls a machine tool for machining cylindrical gears with straight and modified tooth line using the multipass method. Made of steel 16MnCr5, gear wheels with a straight tooth line and with a longitudinally modified convex-convex tooth line were machined on a five-axis CNC milling machine DMG MORI CMX50U, using solid carbide milling cutters (cylindrical and ball end) for processing. The manufactured gears were inspected on a ZEISS coordinate measuring machine, using the software Gear Pro Involute. The conformity of the outline, the tooth line, and the gear pitch were assessed. The side surfaces of the teeth after machining according to the planned strategy were also assessed; the tests were carried out using the optical microscope Alicona Infinite Focus G5 and the contact profilographometer Taylor Hobson, Talysurf 120. The presented method is able to provide a very good quality of machined gears in relation to competing methods. The great advantage of this method is the use of a tool that is not geometrically related to the shape of the machined gear profile, which allows the production of cylindrical gears with a tooth and profile line other than the standard.

Saint-Gaudens SA produit différentes campagnes de bois feuillus en continu avec les mêmes équipements de production, ce qui conduit lors de changement de production à des pâtes dites de transition. Plusieurs méthodes de caractérisation ou techniques d'analyse sont testées ici afin de trouver la meilleure méthode d'analyse qui permettrait de discriminer les pâtes issues de ces campagnes et de déterminer à quel moment commence et se termine une période de transition. La méthode finalement proposée est une méthode d'analyse des pâtes à papier par la morphologie des éléments qui les constituent. Les résultats ont été concluants et ont conduit à l'installation sur le site d'un appareil d'analyse morphologique en ligne ainsi qu'à la réalisation d'essais industriels. Ce système d'analyse morphologique a été adopté par l'usine depuis le printemps 2007 ; il continue de fonctionner en continu et en ligne et a été adapté avec succès pour répondre aux besoins de l'entrepriseSaint-Gaudens SA is a pulp mill currently producing different types of northern bleached hardwood Kraft pulp. All these different types of paper are being produced continuously, using the same process equipment, which results in obtaining transition phase pulps. Many characterisation methods are tested here in order to find a way to identify pure pulps so as to be able to determine the precise moment when the transition phase starts and ends. The method finally retained consists of analyzing morphologically the elements that constitute the paper pulp. The satisfactory results obtained from these experiments in the laboratory led to the successful installation of an on-line analyser on the production site in order to observe different pulp fluxes during transition phases. This system of pulp morphological analysis has been adapted by the paper mill since spring 2007. Nowadays, it's still working continuously on-line and has been adapted to the specific needs of the factory

Saudi King Abdullah played a central role in rolling back non-violent, popular movement for democracy and human rights that occurred in early 2011 in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain and Yemen. The election of Muhammad Morsi, a Muslim Brotherhood leader, as president in Egypt’s first free and fair election in June 2012, went down badly in Riyadh. It welcomed the military coup against Morsi in July 2013. Abdullah helped to put together a package of $12 billion to shore up the military regime in Cairo. Iran described the popular demonstrations in Tunisia, Egypt and Bahrain as Islamic Awakening, and welcomed Morsi’s victory. But it failed to pin that label on the peaceful protests in Syria under President Bashar Assad, affiliated to the Alawi sub-sect in Shia Islam. In 2013 the Syrian civil war acquired an international dimension when the Assad regime used chemical weapons – described as a red line by US President Barack Obama. His failure to punish Assad for crossing this red line disappointed Abdullah. He ignored the fact that Obama-led tightening of economic sanctions against Iran by the US and the European Union were making Iran’s moderate President Hassan Rouhani amenable to a compromise on the nuclear issue.

In the context of the memento mori sermon, the Cantos of Mutabilitie, in particular the two stanzas of the “unperfite” eighth canto, emerges as a nunc dimittis in Elizabeth’s voice, meant to be understood as the queen’s response to Muta¬bilitie’s challenge and Na¬ture’s vindication of Cynthia. The pun on Sabaoth/Sabbath in the final line echoes a pun in a 1589 Accession Day sermon by Thomas White (Elizabeth/Eloi Sabaoth/Eloi Sabbath), preached and printed while Spenser was in London overseeing the 1590 publication of The Faerie Queen.

Introdução: Dentro do contexto de Infecções relacionadas à assistência à saúde, a infecção de corrente sanguínea representa grande relevância dentro do cenário hemodiálise, visto que, pode causar complicações, com impacto na morbi-mortalidade entre os pacientes que realizam terapia de substituição renal. O enfermeiro é responsável pelo cuidado direto e integral ao paciente atuando na prevenção, identificação e tratamento, objetivando recuperação do paciente. Objetivos: O presente estudo tem como objetivo identificar os fatores de risco que levam a infecção e elucidar a atuação do enfermeiro na prevenção da infecção primária de corrente sanguínea em pacientes submetidos à hemodiálise através de um protocolo de cuidados de enfermagem. Material e métodos: Trata-se de um estudo de revisão integrativa realizada nas bases de dados: LILACS, PubMed e na biblioteca eletrônica SciELO, publicados no período 2011-2021 com os descritores: Circulação Sanguínea, Cuidados de Enfermagem, Diálise Renal e Fatores de Risco e Infecção. Foram selecionados artigos originais e foram excluídas as duplicidades respeitando os direitos autorais das literaturas, totalizando um final de 10 artigos. Resultados: Os estudos selecionados evidenciaram como fatores de risco alta taxa de infecção de corrente sanguínea relacionada ao tipo de acesso vascular, sítio de inserção, tempo de inserção e a bactéria causadora em aproximadamente 90% dos casos foi a Staphylococcus aureus (AS). A partir dos fatores de risco, foi elaborado um protocolo visando a prevenção da infecção, na qual se obteve como principais ações preventivas pela equipe de enfermagem a higienização das mãos, utilização de equipamentos de proteção individual e técnica asséptica na manipulação do acesso vascular e manutenção e inspeção regular do curativo. Conclusão: O presente estudo permitiu compreender como os fatores de risco impactam na infecção de corrente sanguínea e evidenciou a importância dos cuidados de enfermagem na prevenção, sendo possível através de boas práticas diminuir a incidência de infecções e propiciar maior qualidade de vida ao paciente.

Introdução: A Tuberculose (TB) é considerada doença curável, com tratamento gratuito e ambulatorial, realizado prioritariamente na atenção básica, sendo a internação indicada em casos com risco não habitual. Contudo, a internação pode conotar casos diagnosticados tardiamente, agravados por comorbidades/vulnerabilidades; pode causar sofrimento físico e mental tanto para a pessoa com TB como para seus familiares e traz custos para paciente e sistema de saúde. Diversos fatores são capazes de impactar na duração da internação, destacando-se: renda familiar, escolaridade, moradia e densidade domiciliar, comorbidades, raça, sexo e idade. Objetivo: Caracterizar as internações por tuberculose em Governador Valadares - Minas Gerais (MG), 2017 a 2021 segundo variáveis dos indivíduos e das internações. Metodologia: Estudo descritivo realizado por meio de dados secundários disponíveis no Tabnet - Sistema de Informações Hospitalares, sítio eletrônico da Secretaria de Estado da Saúde de Minas Gerais, consultado em 4 de abril de 2022. Em relação às variáveis, foram utilizadas: raça/cor, faixa etária, sexo e número de internações por tuberculose no período de 2017 a 2021 em Governador Valadares - MG. Resultados: Foram notificadas 110 internações por tuberculose no local e período do estudo. O ano de 2019 contribuiu com o maior número de registros (n=43, 39,1%). 56,4% das internações estavam na faixa etária de 20 a 44 anos. A razão masculino/feminino foi de 2,9:1. Quanto à raça/cor, em 68,2% das internações os indivíduos se autodeclararam pardos. O impacto financeiro foi de R$110.323,17, valor médio de internação R$1.002,94. A média de permanência foi 9 dias, com taxa de mortalidade 6,4% (n=7). Conclusão: Nota-se que a maior parte das internação por tuberculose se encontram entre a faixa etária da população economicamente ativa, com destaque para homens pardos entre 40 a 44 anos. Houve considerável mortalidade e permanência longa; adicionada aos ônus financeiros, o panorama é de impacto individual e coletivo relevante. Ressalta-se a importância da intensificação de políticas públicas para a prevenção, detecção e tratamento oportunos, bem como fortalecimento da rede, reduzindo, assim, a morbi-mortalidade hospitalar.

Introdução: A Tuberculose (TB) é considerada doença curável, com tratamento gratuito e ambulatorial, realizado prioritariamente na atenção básica, sendo a internação indicada em casos com risco não habitual. Contudo, a internação pode conotar casos diagnosticados tardiamente, agravados por comorbidades/vulnerabilidades; pode causar sofrimento físico e mental tanto para a pessoa com TB como para seus familiares e traz custos para paciente e sistema de saúde. Diversos fatores são capazes de impactar na duração da internação, destacando-se: renda familiar, escolaridade, moradia e densidade domiciliar, comorbidades, raça, sexo e idade. Objetivo: Caracterizar as internações por tuberculose em Governador Valadares - Minas Gerais (MG), 2017 a 2021 segundo variáveis dos indivíduos e das internações. Metodologia: Estudo descritivo realizado por meio de dados secundários disponíveis no Tabnet - Sistema de Informações Hospitalares, sítio eletrônico da Secretaria de Estado da Saúde de Minas Gerais, consultado em 4 de abril de 2022. Em relação às variáveis, foram utilizadas: raça/cor, faixa etária, sexo e número de internações por tuberculose no período de 2017 a 2021 em Governador Valadares - MG. Resultados: Foram notificadas 110 internações por tuberculose no local e período do estudo. O ano de 2019 contribuiu com o maior número de registros (n=43, 39,1%). 56,4% das internações estavam na faixa etária de 20 a 44 anos. A razão masculino/feminino foi de 2,9:1. Introdução: A doença falciforme (DF) é um espectro de condições hematológicas caracterizado por alterações a nível molecular e estrutural da hemoglobina, implicando sua polimerização e alteração morfológica da hemácia quando há hipóxia. Isso causa obstruções no fluxo sanguíneo, implicando dor intensa e danos perfusionais. Está, portanto, associada à alta taxa de morbi-mortalidade. A hidroxiureia (HU) é o único tratamento licenciado para DF. Devido à capacidade de aumentar níveis de hemoglobina fetal (HbF), tem sido associada a melhora significativa de sintomas, principalmente dor. Objetivos: Pesquisar, através de uma revisão sistemática, a eficácia e os efeitos adversos da HU em falcêmicos. Material e Métodos: Revisão de literatura nas bases de dados MedLine e SciELO, em janeiro/2021. Os descritores usados foram “Hydrea”, “HbS Disease”, “Hematology” e variações encontradas no MeSH; já os filtros, “free full text”, “meta-analysis”, “english” e “10 years”. Foram encontrados 9 estudos e 6 fizeram parte do escopo deste trabalho. A escala PRISMA foi utilizada objetivando melhorar a revisão. Resultados: A HU mostrou-se eficaz na redução da frequência de episódios álgicos e outras complicações agudas, taxas de STA e transfusão, internações hospitalares, marcadores hemolíticos, aumento da hemoglobina basal. Indivíduos tratados com HU obtiveram taxa de sobrevida maior, comparando-se aos que não usaram; além de prevenir eventos neurológicos graves e ser bem tolerada. O uso da HU requer monitoramento, pois são reconhecidos efeitos adversos como erupções cutâneas, cefaleia, efeitos gastrointestinais e teratogênicos, neutropenia, plaquetopenia, anemia, mielotoxicidade e mielodisplasia. A HU não evitou sequestro esplênico/hepático. As evidências são inconsistentes quanto aos benefícios e riscos a longo prazo, dose recomendada, prejuízos na fertilidade masculina e uso em indivíduos HbSC. Conclusão: Sobretudo devido à ação nos níveis de HbF, é notória a eficácia e segurança da HU na expectativa e qualidade de vida na DF. A HU é considerada um agente modificador de doença.

Introdução: Linfomas cutâneos podem ser primários ou secundários. Os primários são os mais frequentes linfomas extra-nodais, com incidência em torno de 10 casos por milhão de habitantes por ano, sendo que destes, 20-30% são Linfomas cutâneos primários de células B. Embora idênticos morfologicamente, podem mostrar cursos clínicos bem distintos, sendo os primários geralmente mais indolentes em comparação com os secundários, que apresentam maiores taxas de doença disseminada e estadiamento avançado ao diagnóstico. Em um estudo, disseminação cutânea foi notada entre 0 e 46 meses após a doença primária, com média de 11 meses. Objetivo: Relatar um caso de linfoma difuso de grandes células B cutâneo secundário à doença testicular, com 4 anos de intervalo. Material e métodos: Paciente masculino, 64 anos, exibindo lesões cutâneas enduradas, com bordos definidos, não-pruriginosas, eritemato-violáceas, em membro inferior direito. Recebidas biópsias incisionais das lesões que foram submetidas ao exame histopatológico e ao exame imuno-histoquímica. Resultados: As amostras histologicamente apresentavam preservação da epiderme, e infiltrado dérmico intersticial, com predomínio de células de médio a grande porte, com escasso citoplasma e núcleos hipercromáticos, com ocasionais nucléolos. Ao exame imuno-histoquímico revelou positividade para CD20, BCL6, BCL2, MUM1, CMYC e KI67 de 80%, fechando o diagnóstico de Linfoma Difuso de Grandes Células B (LDGCB), do tipo não-centro germinativo. Após liberação do laudo, recebemos a informação de histórico de LDGCB testicular há 4 anos anteriores ao aparecimento das lesões cutâneas. Foram pesquisadas ainda mutações de BCL2, BCL6 e CMYC por método FISH, sendo todas negativas. Conclusão: O paciente no caso em questão apresentou doença cutânea secundária após cerca de 48 meses, sendo um longo tempo de intervalo entre os dois eventos. Envolvimento cutâneo secundário à LDGCB sistêmico indica uma progressão de doença, e desfechos mais sombrios do que o LDGCB convencional sendo um caso incomum, com grande importância prognóstica e alta morbi-mortalidade, podendo ser de difícil diagnóstico e com amplo espectro de diferenciais ao exame clínico das lesões cutâneas. Além disso, ressalta-se a importância do recebimento de dados clínicos e história prévia do paciente para correlação clínico-patológica, que neste caso foram fundamentais para o diagnóstico, prognóstico e tratamento do paciente.
