Implementation of different information technologies in the studying process continues to be relevant. In a higher school new forms and methods of training, focused on the use of internet technology are being developed. The paper discusses the possibility of using distance learning technologies via Moodle shell, describes how to use the basic elements of e-learning course. The results of testing of e-learning course compared with the classic statement of the course of complex variable theory for full-time students of Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty, specialty "Applied Mathematics", are provided. One of the form of blended learning is described. The analysis of the effectiveness of blended learning for students of mathematics was performed.

This article proposes an integrated approach regarding the use of different software for practice-oriented training in engineering disciplines. Emphasis is placed on the formation of a unified educational space for training in engineering disciplines. An approach to the integration of a large number of application software solutions based on the "Moodle" distance learning shell was developed. Examples of the developed training courses for the engineering disciplines are presented. Examples include the use of the proposed approach for "Machine Parts" and "Theory of Machines and Mechanisms" technical training courses in terms of practice-based learning. Problems of application of various systems of e-learning and technologies of development of the courses for e-learning are discussed.

The paper presents the methodology of developing a distance learning course in organic chemistry for students majoring in “Biotechnology and Bioengineering” in the Moodle shell. An e-learning course is offered to organize distance learning for students. Based on the use of Moodle modules, there is a system of learning and control over it, which is focused on the organization of interaction between teacher and students and can be effectively used for the organization of blended learning and distance learning. With the help of such a system the student can remotely, get acquainted with the study material, perform tasks and send the results of their performance for verification, pass electronic testing in the mode of self-control and control. In the period of growing relevance of distance learning, the use of such elements as video and audio clips, animations, illustrated graphics and diagrams, interactive educational games, links to Internet resources, simulations and various tools for communication, collaboration and messaging are appropriate. It includes a course business card, general information, 3 content modules and a control unit. The course contains different types of elements: lectures, presentations, glossary, news forum, tests, tasks. The task of the course is to organize distance and independent work of students and perform tests. Laboratory works are presented using video materials. The developed electronic course in the discipline is constantly evolving and focused on the needs of students with the ability to modify the presentation of the material. The course in organic chemistry for distance learning activates the independent work of students. The use of e-course in the educational process allows you to write and test in a remote format.

The article analyzes the meaning of the concept of "gamification". It is determined that since 2011 the number of specialized conferences, books and research on the topic of gamification has increased, but its content is interpreted differently by scientists: both as a process and as a set of techniques or techniques. It is characterized that gamification in education is used in two meanings: in a broad sense - the game shell (attributes, techniques, elements) is used without the use of ICT; in the narrow - gamification is based on the use of ICT (video games, specialized programs, etc.). The purpose of using gamification at higher education institutions in experimental research is clarified. The main components of gamification are identified. It has been found that scientists warn against mechanistic using of marketing methods in education. Experiences of using gamification in the training of social workers (Concordia University (Portland, USA) and the Center for Applied Social Research RTIM (Australia)) are analyzed. The most common practices are identified: online courses (MOOK) in the social field, trainings, gamification support platforms; 3D virtual environment. It has been found that gamification has not yet become widespread in the training of social workers. It is determined that the results of empirical studies of the effectiveness of gamification for the quality of training of social workers are different and reveal complications of technical, psychological and pedagogical nature. The factors that limit the introduction of gamification in the educational process are described. The possibilities of using gamification in the training of social workers in higher education institutions are generalized. It is determined that the choice of types and methods of implementation of game elements should be determined by the teacher depending on the general objectives of the discipline, ensuring the implementation of the educational program, and comply with the Standard for training a specialist in the social field. Increasing demand for distance learning services will expand the search for ways to use gamification in the training of social workers. It is planned to develop a general game scenario for a discipline in the LMS Moodle environment for distance learning of future social workers.

This article considers the opportunities of using Moodle LMS (learning management system) tools to ensure the effective implementation of an innovative policy of the higher educational institution. In the framework of digital transformation of social space an important and relevant topic for higher educational institutions is the creation of high-quality information and communication environment, which shall correspond to the contemporary state of science and technology development, global educational standards and information society needs. The advantages of the Moodle system are studied. Moodle system provides for a comprehensive educational process through its extensive educational content, a system for control, monitoring and evaluating the knowledge quality. The authors compare the four-phased model of knowledge management with the capacities of LMS Moodle educational environment. The latter is capable of simulating professional actions in a virtual educational space that allows the university to train advanced specialists and ensure a high level of their professional skills based on hard and soft skills. The perceptive and cognitive attitude of university students and teachers towards the implementation of the LMS Moodle educational platform was researched. The research has brought out the subjective assessment model of the innovative process with clear meaningful factors of changes’ perception. Such a model allows understanding the collective attitude to the university’s policy and highlighting mental settings necessary for working with human resources within the social adaptation and diffusion of innovation. The synergy of technological and managerial innovations has been updated to ensure completeness and efficiency in presenting a professional educational product based on the LMS Moodle platform.

<span>Online marking and feedback systems are critical for providing timely and accurate feedback to students and maintaining the integrity of results in large class teaching. Previous investigations have involved much in-house development and more consideration is needed for deploying or customising off the shelf solutions. Furthermore, keeping up to date with the state of the art from both academia and industry is essential. This paper is motivated by a project aiming to identify a marking and feedback system for deployment at the authors' university. A detailed investigation is described which is open minded towards adopting or modifying an existing product, or the implementation of a new solution, with key features and shortcomings described in detail. </span><em>Moodle Workshops, Turnitin GradeMark, Waypoint</em><span> and </span><em>WebMark</em><span> were shortlisted and carried forward for user analysis testing. The outcomes have not only provided key conclusions concerning the suitability of existing solutions, but resulted in a comprehensive collection of functional requirements that leaders of new projects should consider. This paper should be of interest for anyone considering the adoption or upgrade of any marking and feedback system at their home institution.</span>

Three junior high teachers and 12 senior high school teachers were introduced to online teaching strategies and tools in a three-day workshop. The teachers developed their basic online course shell on Moodle, an open-source online course management system. Following the workshop, teachers revised their course shells and created short teaching modules to meet the differentiated needs of their students. The modules were evaluated using a modified version of the Quality Online Course Initiative (QOCI) Rubric (Illinois Online Network, 2007). All teacher participants completed the workshop training and 14 successfully met all the QOCI criteria on their modules. This Moodle training was a capstone experience following three years of curricula, content, and pedagogical training through the ISAMS project. The project was funded as part of a No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Teacher Improvement grant which provided professional development for math and science teachers.

The American Community Schools (ACS) Athens Middle School was able to transform a one-day commemorative event known as United Nations Day into long-term service-learning using i2Flex principles and methodologies. The i2Flex blended learning component enabled teachers and students to overcome time limitations and empowered students to take ownership of their service. Utilizing i2Flex strategies can prove meaningful for long term student character development, innovation, and critical thinking skills required in the 21st century. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs or Global Goals) guided the development of the Moodle course shell and a lasting service-learning experience for middle school students. The authors also discuss how the transformation of United Nations Day into authentic service-learning shaped an advisory program in the middle school and what implications it can further have in a school setting.

In this chapter the goal is to describe my implementation of the i2Flex in two consecutive academic years in an attempt to meet more effectively the educational needs of the new generation students. Starting with the description of the i2Flex methodology in an IB French class as a member of the pilot i2Flex faculty at ACS Athens, I will present the instructional (re-)design of my Moodle shell to reflect the new teaching methodology, and the need to evaluate this pilot year via an appropriate framework. Then, I will describe the same class in the second year, from how i2Flex was at this point implemented to how it was evaluated and what data was collected from the students. Finally, the goal is to share under the umbrella of best practices how meaningful and efficient the i2Flex is, taking in consideration the new role of the teacher in and out of class and its unique potential for student learning.

In this chapter, the goal is to describe the effectiveness of the implementation of the i2Flex in two different courses in the past five consecutive academic years in an attempt to meet more effectively the educational needs of the new educational framework. Starting with the description of the i2Flex methodology in a Greek class and in an online French class, the author presents the instructional (re-)design of the Moodle shell to reflect the new teaching methodology, and the need to evaluate this via an appropriate framework. It is obvious that the goal is to share under the umbrella of best practices how meaningful and efficient the i2Flex is in two different educational frames. At the same time, the use of community of inquiry (CoI) is taken in consideration to evaluate this educational process. Finally, the new role of the teacher, face to face and virtually, is observed to prove the progress of the educational environment.

Deep sea fans occur along many continental margins. The Bengal Fan is the world's largest elongated submarine fan area, occupying over 3 x 106 km2 of seafloor in the Bay of Bengal. The Bay of Bengal is bordered by Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Myanamar, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Sumatra. The fan spans an area that is 2800-3000km in length and 830-1430 km in width. At the northern end of the Bay, the sediment cover is estimated to be more than 16 km in thickness (Curray and Moore, 1971, 1974, Moore et al., 1974). Recent drilling on the distal part of the fan just south of the equator during Ocean Drilling Program Leg 116 cored nearly 1 km of sediment without reaching hardrock basement (Cochran et al., 1990). The submarine feature of the Ninetyeast Ridge divides the fan into two major lobes, the main Bengal Fan and the eastern lobe, also known as the Nicobar Fan (Curray and Moore, 1974) (figure 19.1). The fan extends from 20°N latitude and, based on recent sedimentological and channel-system studies, to beyond 9°S latitude (Stow et al., 1990; Hübscher et al., 1997). The great size of the Bengal Fan is related to the history of the collision of the Indian tectonic plate with Eurasia and the subsequent uplift of the Himalayas. The first encounter of the northward-moving Indian Plate with the Asian mainland occurred around 50 million years (my) ago in the early Eocene Epoch (Haq, 1985). The first collision caused the initial uplift in the Himalayan region. Sedimentation in the bay is inferred to have started after this first collision, but extensive sedimentation probably did not begin until the early Miocene (ca. 17 my ago) after a major uplift in the Himalayas (Haq, 1985). Weathering and denudation of the Himalayas has furnished huge volumes of sediments that have built the Bengal Fan, supplied through the Ganges and Brahmaputra Rivers and their delta (figure 19.2). Sediments are transported largely by turbidity currents across the submerged continental terrace in the proximal part of the fan through a major delta-front canyon, also known as the Swatch-of-No-Ground. Currently, this canyon discharges its load into a single active channel that supplies sediment to the entire length of the fan.

Nowadays students seem to be less engaged with learning; nevertheless, they seem to have high educational demands and greater learning needs. Thus, they seek for quicker solutions and better accommodations provided by well-prepared courses. Inevitably, the goal of many schools is to engage the learners into the learning experience and maintain the instructional quality. This is why it is imperative to create a solid quality assurance plan that will enable them to achieve their goal. This chapter discusses the implementation of the quality matters framework into the design and teaching of Mathematics and Biology classes at ACS Athens, Greece, as a means of improving and evaluating these blended courses. This framework is discussed in the context of blended learning that ACS Athens offers through the i2Flex methodology. Moodle platform is used not only as a repository of useful information but to meaningfully enhance student engagement and conserve teaching and learning time. Specific examples of class material from the Moodle shells of both courses are presented.

The concept of trauma has been a central feature of psychiatry and psychology ever since a century ago, when a Viennese neurologist concluded that many of his young female patients with hysteria had experienced childhood sexual abuse. The concept of trauma soon was extended to adults, mainly soldiers. “Hysteria,” “shell shock,” “war neurosis”—it all became mutated in DSM-III’s radical revision of 1980 into “post-traumatic stress disorder” (PTSD). In this chapter, the diagnosis and treatment of post-traumatic stress are explored. DSM-based diagnoses are viewed as broad, and overly oriented toward comorbidity. Instead, PTSD-like symptoms occur as part of the typical stressors that trigger mood or psychotic states. True PTSD can occur with severe trauma, as in childhood sexual abuse or war trauma. Symptomatic treatment is seen to be questionable in benefit over risk, both for antipsychotics and for SRIs.

Fears about loss of privacy in computerized societies have been central to dystopian literature. The issue has also concerned thoughtful computer scientists and lawyers since the 1960s. By then, the scope of the computer revolution was making clear that governments and corporations could keep records about almost every aspect of our lives. As data storage became virtually limitless at trivial cost, effective uses of data grew, as did risks to personal privacy. We shall define privacy, look at its manifestations and roles, and discuss current and future threats to it. We shall introduce concepts that are key to understanding privacy, such as informed consent. A major concern is the threats to information privacy or data privacy, in which a person’s confidential information has errors or becomes exposed to people who should not be able to see or use it. We shall examine situations in which privacy can be invaded by governments, organizations, and individuals. Governments amass vast stores of personal data during the everyday course of administration and regulation. Government surveillance in many nations captures information that should be private, a topic we discussed in Chapter 6. Search engines, credit rating organizations, and insurance companies also gather huge amounts of data on consumers. When data is incorrect, or is hacked, there are serious implications for information privacy. Criminals seek to gain leverage by ferreting out computer-based data about personal financial transactions. Health information is a particularly sensitive area in which many people feel especially vulnerable. These are all ‘classical’ privacy concerns, the dangers of which were evident in the 1960s. New technologies have raised more concerns. Social media holds vast quantities of personal data that we have willingly disclosed, including information that could prove embarrassing later in life. A vivid example of a privacy breech was the Cambridge Analytica/Facebook scandal of 2018. New technologies raise new privacy concerns. Chips use GPS to track our location and movements. Recent advances in computer vision and the widespread deployment of video cameras enable face recognition. Chips located in the environment and embedded as sensors and prostheses in our bodies make our activities and even our moods accessible by others.

Ex. I-2a is Uncertainty Analysis in Modelling (UAM) of stand-alone thermal-hydraulics in steady state. It belongs to IAEA Coordinated Research Project (CRP). In this paper, the work is divided into two steps. Firstly, a single pebble model is developed based on Multiphysics Object Oriented Simulation Environment (MOOSE). The model includes two regions: homogeneous fuel region and shell region. One physical field is concerned: solid temperature field. The field is solved in a Jacobian-free Newton–Krylov (JFNK) way in the MOOSE framework. Secondly, perturbation of thermal parameters is done. In this paper, helium coolant temperature, convective heat transfer coefficient, power density and solid conductivity are the main thermal parameters which are concerned. Different kinds of perturbation of thermal parameters are conducted. Thus, variation of temperature profile across the pebble, Doppler temperature, moderator temperature and maximum temperature could be got.

The article discusses the categories of aspect and mood in the Old English language. The category of aspect’s formation, which performed the primary grammatical function in Old English, must be considered together with temporal oppositions’ development, since Old English forms simultaneously transmitted aspectual information. In 1998, Husky Oil Operations Limited and its partner formerly Rigel Oil, (purchased by Talisman Energy in 1999), constructed a 26.2 km pipeline in Kananaskis Country to transport sour oil, solution gas and produced water from Pad #3 on Cox Hill to the Shell Oil Jumping Pound Gas Plant for processing. Kananaskis Country is a 4160 km2 “Planning Area” that has both Prime Protection and Multiple Use designations. Situated just west of Calgary, Alberta, Canada it has considerable recreational and environmental value, including significant wildlife habitat. The original exploration and subsequent pipeline construction applications required separate Alberta Energy & Utilities Board (AEUB) public hearings with both involving significant public consultation. Prior to drilling on the lands that had been purchased more than a decade ago, Husky adopted several governing principles to reduce environmental impact, mitigate damage and foster open and honest communication with other industrial users, regulators, local interest groups and local aboriginal communities. During planning and construction, careful attention was paid to using existing linear disturbances (seismic lines, roads and cutblocks). A variety of environmental studies, that incorporated ecologically-integrated landscape classification and included the use of indicator species such as the Grizzly Bear, were conducted prior to and during the early stages of development. The results of these studies, along with the information gathered from the public consultation, historical and cultural studies and engineering specifications formed the basis for the route selection. Watercourses presented particular challenges during pipeline construction. The pipeline right-of-way (RoW) intercepted 26 small water runs and 19 creeks. Fishery and water quality issues were identified as important issues in the lower Coxhill Creek and Jumpingpound Creeks. As a result, Jumpingpound Creek was directionally drilled at two locations and all other watercourses were open-cut using low-impact techniques. To minimize new RoW clearing, substantial portions of the pipeline were placed in the ditch of the existing road. Husky attributes the success of this project to planning, broad community input and the co-operation and buy-in by the project management team and construction companies.
