Moisturizer is one of cosmetics used for dry skin care and can make skin become moist and soft. Natural material can be used to maintain water content in the skin and soften skin is Aloe vera. Aloe vera contains minerals, vitamins A, C, E and B12. In addition to Aloe vera to maintain antioxidants in the skin is green grass jelly because it has flavonoid content. Content contained in Aloe vera and green grass jelly can be used for making natural moisturizers because at this time many moisturizers that contain harmful chemicals. This observation was to analyze differences in concentration of Aloe vera and green grass jelly on moisturizers and analyze antioxidant activity of green grass jelly. Method used in making this moisturizer is mixing with green grass jelly formulation (2.5%; 5%; 7.5%) + Aloe vera (2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%), and non-sample formulation treatment. Analysis of this experimental data was qualitative on moisturizers and quantitatively to calculate levels of flavonoids in green grass jelly. Results of this study indicate that difference in concentration of Aloe vera + green grass jelly greatly affects parameters of good moisturizer used, and greater addition of green grass jelly concentration greater flavonoid content in moisturizer.

As interest in skin increases, the cosmetic market is also growing. It is difficult to choose between the numerous types of basic cosmetics on the market. This article aims to provide advice and guidance on which products to recommend according to a patient’s skin condition. Appropriate application of a moisturizer attempts not only to improve the dryness, but also improve the skin’s natural barrier function to protect the skin from internal and external irritants to keep the skin healthy. Moisturizers consist of various ingredients, including occlusive agents, emollients, humectants, lipid mixture, emulsifiers, and preservatives. Pathophysiology of dry skin is also discussed to provide readers with the background they need to choose the right moisturizer for themselves. As moisturizers play an important role as adjuvant in the treatment of common skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, psoriasis, acne and rosacea, which type of moisturizer is appropriate for each disease was also dealt with. Basic cosmetics, especially moisturizers, should be recommended in consideration of the ingredients, effectiveness and safety of each product, and the skin condition of each patient.

Background/Aims: An important pillar of AD management involves moisturizer application following bathing to restore epidermal barrier function (EBF). In this study, we aim to bring additional evidence to the “soak-and-smear” regimen, comparing EBF recovery by various moisturizers following bathing in AD and healthy subjects. Methods: Volar forearms of 10 AD patients and 10 healthy controls were immersed in water for 10 minutes to simulate bathing. Immediately after bathing, ceramide-containing emollient (CER), a humectant (10% glycerin, GLY), an occlusant (white petrolatum, PETR), and aloe vera 5% extract (ALOE) were applied to separate test sites on the forearm. One test site did not receive any moisturizer and served as control. EBF parameters (hydration, TEWL, and pH) were recorded at baseline, and 15, 30, and 60-minutes post-bathing.Results: AD and controls shared similar trends. ALOE had the most significant pH decrease while GLY had the highest pH increase. Hydration significantly increased in all moisturizers compared to control. GLY led to the highest increase, peaking at 15-minutes for both AD and healthy subjects. AD subjects had higher hydration following CER than healthy subjects throughout the entire study. All four moisturizers increased TEWL compared to control, though PETR had the lowest initial TEWL increase. Conclusion: All moisturizers has an immediate effect on improving SC hydration. Their initial effects on TEWL increase recovers toward control levels by 60-minutes. Future studies are needed to examine the effect of repeated moisturizer post-bathing over longer study periods.

Although epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitors are one of the most effective treatment options for lung cancer, they frequently cause cutaneous toxicity that can lead to treatment discontinuation. Dryness, which is a common form of cutaneous toxicity, is usually treated using medical moisturizing agents. We aimed to investigate the treatment of cutaneous toxicity caused by EGFR inhibitors by comparing patients who used a cosmetic moisturizer with those who used conventional medical moisturizers. This study included 12 patients with lung cancer, who were receiving EGFR inhibitors and using topical medical moisturizers. The participants were assigned to a group that continued using medical moisturizers or a group that began using NOV® skin cream D. The study’s findings showed that like conventional medical moisturizers, NOV®skin cream D improved the cutaneous dryness caused by EGFR inhibitors and that it might additionally improve patients’ quality of life. Also, we obtained novel findings that NOV® skin cream D normalized keratinization, which is a component of normal skin cell differentiation impeded by EGFR inhibitors. Hence, the cosmetic moisturizer may help to prevent the discontinuation of EGFR inhibitors, thereby ensuring their continuous therapeutic effects.

Moisturizers are one of the most widely used preparations in cosmetics and have been extensively used to soften the skin for consumers. Moisturizers work effectively in combating dry skin which may cause pain, tightness, itch, stinging, and/or tingling. The aim of this review is to evaluate published studies on the history, ingredients, preparation processes, characteristics, uses, and applications of moisturizers. Moisturizers bridge the gap between medicine and consumer goods by being used to make the skin more beautiful and healthy. In the future, in moisturizer therapy, the capacity to adapt specific agents to specific dermatological demands will be crucial. Cosmetically, moisturizers make the skin smooth by the mechanism of increasing the water content in the stratum corneum, hence exerting its most vital action, which is moisturizing action and maintaining a normal skin pH.

Currently, formulations of skin moisturizers are derived from natural compounds. Fixed oils are known to have compounds that potential to be developed as skin moisturizers based on emollient mechanism. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of oil type on the physical characteristics of skin moisturizer creams. In this study, a skin moisturizer cream was formulated using three types of fixed oils: VCO (F1), Olive Oil (F2), and Jojoba Oil (F3). All formulas were tested for physical characteristics of pH, cream type, viscosity, spreadability, and homogeneity. The test results show that all formulas appropriate to the skin pH range, have o/w type creams and homogeneous texture. In the results of the viscosity test, there was a significant difference (p<0.05) with the highest value of viscosity for F2 (16750 ± 250 cP) > F3 (14200 ± 346cP) > F1 (5833 ± 58 cP), while for spreadability test there were also significant differences (p<0.05) with the highest diameter for F1 (5.8 ± 0.1 cm) = F3 (5.7 ± 0.2 cm) > F2 (4.3 ± 0.2 cm). Based on the results, it can be concluded that the type of oil can affect the physical characteristics of the moisturizer formula. F1 and F3 have better physical characteristics than F2.

Patchouli oil, a type of essential oil, is one of Indonesian’s non-oil and gas export commodities accounted for one of the sources of Indonesian foreign exchange. Patchouli alcohol is commonly used in the cosmetic and perfume industries as well as the fragrance ingredient in the household products, one of which is used in lip moisturizer product. Lip moisturizer is a cosmetic product that was created with the similar essence of lipstick saves for its colorless in nature hence the translucent appearance. As a moisturizer, lip moisturizer can be used to moisturize the lips to avoid dry and chapped lips. Producing lip moisturizer involves four steps of formulation, which are mixing the solid components, mixing the liquid components, mixing of both the solid and liquid components, and adding the active substances and the patchouli oil. The study conducted two times of experiment, and it can be concluded that the second experiment can be used for lip skin. The execution of the test was based on the stability and homogeneity tests that meet the terms and conditions that have been set.

Hand and body lotion is a skin moisturizing cosmetic preparation that belongs to the emollient (softener) class and has several properties, namely as a source of moisture for the skin, making hands and body soft but not greasy and easy to apply on the skin. Currently, there are quite a lot of moisturizers on the market, but most of them contain several compounds that have the potential to cause interference with the barrier and skin structure. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out a comprehensive exploration effort in order to develop a moisturizer that is safer against the barrier and skin structure. Some natural ingredients that have the potential to be developed as skin moisturizers are papaya latex, yam, VCO (virgin coconut oil), and cocoa fat.

Near-infrared (NIR) reflectance spectroscopy has been used to differentiate water in different hydrogen-bonding environments of skin in vivo and to determine the effect of moisturizer application on water content. Four types of water have been observed in the second-derivative spectrum of skin. These are assigned as water associated with the lipid bilayers, primary and secondary water of hydration on protein, and bulk (free) water in deeper tissue. The intensities of the lipid-associated water band and the bulk water band depend on anatomical site. The latter, particularly, may be affected by corneocyte size and may have potential in predicting transdermal penetration of drugs. Moisturizer application appears to have little effect on water content, but results in changes in the degree of scattering of radiation, suggesting that moisturizers smooth, rather than hydrate, the skin.

Skin hydration has an important role in various diseases of the elderly. Skin hydration is determined by two factors, namely the ability of the stratum corneum (SC) to retain water due to natural moisturizing factors and the barrier function of the intercellular lipid lamellar structure and tight junctions. Several parameters are usually used for skin hydration, such as surface water content (SWC) and trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL). With age, several changes in the skin affect hydration, including changes in the cellular and intercellular lipid matrix, skin pH, SC protease enzymes, decreased sebaceous and sweat gland activity, and decreased estrogen levels in women. Therefore, a moisturizer is needed to minimize the unwanted effects of some of these changes. Selection of the type of moisturizer is very important for the elderly, especially moisturizers with antiseptic, antibacterial, and antioxidant effects are highly recommended. The ability of essential oils as components of moisturizers has been proven in various studies. Essential oils can improve the function of the epidermal barrier and help prevent transepidermal water loss. Therefore, this literature review discusses the role of various essential oils, namely green tea oils (Camellia sinensis or Camellia assamica), virgin coconut oils (Cocos nucifera L.), evening primrose oils (Oenothera paradoxa), grape seed oils (Vitis vinifera L.) .), rosemary oils (Rosmarinus officinalis L.), immortelle oils (Helichrysum italicum), and cannabis seeds oils (Cannabis sativa L.) on improving skin hydration in the elderly.

Objective: Pressure ulcers (PUs) involve the destruction of skin and underlying tissue due to prolonged pressure and shear forces. These ulcers are painful and significantly reduce a person's quality of life. PUs are also expensive to manage and impact negatively on the achievement of cost-effective, efficient care delivery. Method: Prone positioning is a postural therapy that aims to enhance respiratory function through increasing oxygenation levels. In contemporary clinical practice, ventilation in the prone position is indicated for patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome. However, despite its advantages in terms of respiratory function, several studies have examined complications of prone position ventilation and have identified PUs (facial PUs as well as PUs on other weight-bearing areas of the body) as a frequent complication in patients who are already in a precarious medical situation. International data suggest that up to 57% of patients nursed in the prone position develop a PU. The aim of this clinical review is to identify and review evidence-based recommendations developed to facilitate the selection and application of preventive interventions aimed at reducing PU development in patients ventilated in the prone position. Given the current COVID-19 crisis, this review is timely as intensive care unit (ICU) patients with COVID-19 require ventilation in the prone position at a level that is disproportionate to the general intensive care population. Up to 28% of patients admitted to the ICU with confirmed infection due to severe COVID-19 are cared for in the prone position. The scope of this review is limited to adult individuals only. Results: The skin assessment should be undertaken before proning and following positioning the patient back into the supine position. Although it is essential to keep the skin clean and moisturised, using pH-balanced cleansers, there is inconsistency in terms of the evidence to support the type of moisturiser. Use of positioning devices in addition to repositioning is recommended to offload pressure points on the face and body. Further, using dressings such as hydrocolloids, transparent film and silicone may be of benefit in decreasing facial skin breakdown. Conclusion: Given the importance of PU prevention in this cohort of patients, adopting a focused prevention strategy, including skin assessment and care, offloading and pressure redistribution, and dressings for prevention may contribute to a reduction in the incidence and prevalence of these largely preventable wounds.

Background: Moisturizers are cosmetic products used routinely to manage various skin conditions. Even though moisturizers are often thought to have minimal or no adverse reactions, allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) to these products can develop in some cases. Methods: We studied ingredients included in 3 of the most commonly used moisturizer brands, identified their presence in standard patch testing series, and evaluated their allergenic potential, categorizing the allergens as frequent or infrequent. The standard patch testing series used as reference were the Thin-layer Rapid Use Epicutaneous patch test (T.R.U.E. test), the North American Contact Dermatitis Group (NACDG) screening standard series, and the American Contact Dermatitis Society (ACDS) core allergen series. Results: Aveeno, Cetaphil, and Cerave products had a total of 12, 14, and 9 potential allergens, respectively, the majority of which were infrequent and not included in standard patch testing series. Conclusion: Being aware of the allergenic potential of commonly used moisturizers may help healthcare providers when evaluating patients with ACD. Further testing is recommended in a targeted manner when suspecting ACD with negative standard patch testing series or when ACD is refractory to treatment.

Disruption to the integrity of the skin can reduce patient wellbeing and quality of life. A major cause of skin breakdown is prolonged exposure to moisture, but this is often overlooked. When skin is wet, it becomes more susceptible to damage from friction and shearing forces, and skin flora can penetrate the disrupted barrier, causing further irritation and inflammation. If untreated, moisture-associated skin damage (MASD) can rapidly lead to excoriation and skin breakdown. MASD includes incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD), which is caused by prolonged skin exposure to urine and stool, particularly liquid stool. For patients at a high risk of developing IAD, preventive measures should be instituted as soon as possible. The main one is to prevent excessive contact of the skin with moisture. Optimal skin care should be provided to patients with any form of MASD. It should be based on a structured regimen and include the use of a gentle skin cleanser, a barrier product and moisturiser. Derma Protective Plus is a liquid barrier that gives long-lasting protection against chafing or ingress of urine and stool into the skin. This product is less greasy than others, and provides a barrier and a healing environment, with resistance to further maceration from IAD or persistent loose stools.

This study is aimed to know the use of green grass as a healthy alternative in preventing the occurrence of diseases caused by carcinogens and related to skincare. Sun exposure can cause various problems, especially on the skin, such as dry skin. Natural moisturizers can be the solution. Formulations of green grass jelly and bengkoang leaves can be an alternative use of natural moisturizers. One of the ingredients in green grass jelly leaves is the content of polyphenols and flavonoids contained in green grass jelly leaves can function as antioxidants. The research uses a draft of 2-Factor complete randomized design (RAL) type by using 4 treatment variations of green grass jelly formula (2.5%; 5%; 7.5%; and 10%) + Bengkoang (0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%) and treatment of formulations without green grass. The results of the study are moisturizer based on green grass with the addition of bengkoang that has been made to meet the pH standard. Based on SNI-16-4399-1996, all samples that have been made meet the existing standards and the formulation samples that comply with the standard are F (D), ie green grass jelly concentration of 2.5% and Bengkong 5%

BackgroundThe majority of children with eczema in the UK are looked after in primary care yet we know little about their care in this setting.AimTo compare the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of eczema in primary care with published diagnostic criteria and management guidelines.Design & settingCross-sectional study using data from a randomised controlled feasibility study. General practices, UK.MethodBaseline data from children aged 1 month to 5 years recruited ‘in-consultation’ for the Choice of Moisturiser in Eczema Treatment (COMET) feasibility study was used. These included clinician diagnosis and global severity assessment; the parent-completed Patient Orientated Eczema Measure (POEM); a questionnaire about eczema treatments, including use of topical corticosteroid (TCS); and, the Eczema Area Severity Index (EASI) carried out by trained researchers. Descriptive analyses were undertaken to compare diagnoses with UK diagnostic criteria, severity assessments, and treatment with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellent (NICE) guidance.ResultsData were available for 90 participants. Only 46% of participants labelled as having eczema met the UK diagnostic criteria. Agreement between the global severity assessment by a healthcare practitioner with the EASI and POEM measures of eczema severity were 44% and 48% respectively. Emollients and TCSs were underused with 44% of participants not using any emollient and 46% using one or more TCSs. The ‘match’ between eczema severity and TCSs potency was poor.ConclusionDiscrepancies were found between the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of children with eczema in primary care, and UK diagnostic criteria and guidelines. Further investigation to explore the reasons for this discordance, and whether it matters, is needed.

Purpose: This study examined young women’s actual timing of use of a microbicide surrogate gel (vaginal moisturiser (VM)) compared with assigned timing conditions. Methods: Participants used a VM with coitus during 4-week cycles over a 3-year period in random timing sequences: 1 h before coitus, 10 min before coitus and 10 min after coitus. Daily diaries collected information related to coital behaviours, VM use and timing, and participants’ and partners’ VM assessments. Descriptive and mixed-effects model analyses were conducted. Results: At least three VM timing conditions were completed by 109 women aged 18–22 years old. Of 17 772 diary days collected, coitus was reported on 2128 (1252 with VM use; 59%). Median times between VM application and coitus were: 60 min before coitus (mean = 68.2; s.d. = 76.9) for the 1-h pre-coital group, 13.5 min before coitus (mean = 44.9; s.d. = 117.1) for the 10-min pre-coital group and 5 min before coitus (mean = 24.5; s.d. = 205.1) for the 10-min post-coital group. Women reported that the VM was very easy to use (68%), it was somewhat messy (61%), they were very wet during sex (81%), sex was very good (80%) and their partners liked using the VM (38%). Conclusions: Overall, the VM was rated positively. There was substantial deviation in application time across timing conditions, with significantly greater variability in the post-coital group. These findings contribute to understanding of how VMs are accepted and used, with implications for HIV prevention with microbicides requiring specific application timing.

Background: Topical steroid-sparing agents (SSA), such as tacrolimus, pimecrolimus, and crisaborole, represent an important therapeutic option in the treatment of inflammatory dermatoses such as atopic dermatitis. While these agents lack the common side effects associated with topical corticosteroids, they all share application site pain as an important adverse effect. Summary: Based on the available evidence and our experience, we suggest the following 7 practical strategies for decreasing the pain associated with SSA use. (1) Use a topical corticosteroid for a few days to reduce inflammation before starting the SSA treatment. (2) Use SSAs strategically. (3) Apply moisturizer before applying SSAs. (4) Store moisturizers in the refrigerator. (5) Ask the patient to apply the SSA on a small test area before broader application. (6) Apply the SSA on dry rather than on damp skin. (7) Consider using aspirin when appropriate for the patient.

: Being commonly used skin care products, comedogenic potential of moisturizers should be assessed. : The aim of the study was to evaluate the comedogenic potential of a moisturizer Venusia Max Lotion (paraben-, alcohol-, mineral oil-, animal origin-(PAMA) free) when applied topically to the skin compared to the controls. : Double-blind, single-center, comparative study conducted at private institute in Mumbai, India: Approximately 0.025 gm of the test product and 0.025 ml of positive control (coconut oil) and negative control (glycerin) were applied and occluded under a patch on the upper back of healthy female participants. Patch application and removal were made 12 consecutive times on alternate days for each participant. On the last day, approximately 2 hours after patch removal, a follicular biopsy was taken for all participants on all product application zones. : Data analyzed with descriptive statistics using the SPSS software version 10.0.: Data from a total of 19 participants was analyzed. The mean age was 35.32 years. The mean comedone grade for Venusia Max Lotion (PAMA free) was significantly lower compared to the positive control (Coconut Oil) (1.00 vs. 2.11, respectively; P=.001). The mean comedone grade was 0.79 for negative control (Glycerine) which is nearly similar to that of the test product. The moisturizer product Venusia Max Lotion (PAMA free) is non-comedogenic as compared to positive control. Thus, it can be considered for moisturizing purposes without the fear of comedogenicity.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is characterized by itching or pruritus, erythematous lesions, pruritus, and a skin barrier defect. Repeated scratching can trigger the itch-scratch cycle. Itching is associated with an adverse impact on quality of life. The first-line treatment of AD includes the use of topical corticosteroids for atopic dermatitis. However, parents of children with atopic dermatitis are often reluctant to accept the use of topical corticosteroids due to their concern of adverse effects flare-up. Relizema™ cream is a prescription emollient device (PED) multi-ingredients moisturizer formulation that has been indicated for the treatment of signs and symptoms of dermatitis. It is approved as medical device (MD) class IIa in Europe and it is registered as a topical medical device in countries of Asia Pacific. A consensus meeting of 9 dermatologists from multiple countries in Asia Pacific region treating atopic dermatitis was conducted. The dermatologists presented their cases of atopic dermatitis. PED was reported by patients to offer good relief of symptoms and improve skin softness unlike other moisturizers. In fact, a few patients reported relief with Relizema™ cream after using other moisturizers which were not demonstrating clinical effectiveness. Patients reported they noticed a softness in their skin after the application of the PED. PED was effective even in patients with lichenified skin. The formulation which is enriched with antioxidants helped relieve eczema. Due to its steroid-free formulation, the PED can be continued as a part of long-term maintenance treatment to maintain healthy skin conditions, prolong remission, and prevent recurrence.

Introduction: Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) contains a lot of medium chain fatty acids. VCO combined with coffee grounds (Coffea arabica Linn) and activated carbon (Activated carbon Cocos nucifera L) has the potential to form a preparation that can moisturise and brighten the skin. The purpose of this study was to make cosmetic cleansing preparations containing three natural ingredients. Methods: This study evaluated the organoleptic body scrub preparations, homogeneity, dispensability and pH for three different formulations. In vivo test for irritation (oedema and erythema) was carried out on albino rabbits (n = 3) for each treatment group. Clinical irritation testing was performed on the forearm of healthy volunteers, 17 - 45 years of age with no history of allergies (n = 30). Determination of skin moisture content and melanin index was carried out as a measure of effectiveness. Results: Organoleptic and homogeneity tests showed that preparations had dark black colour, the distinctive smell of coffee, it was homogeneous, spread ability was in the range of 4 cm with the pH at a safe pH for the skin. Irritation results also did not show any oedema and erythema in in vivo testing. In clinical testing no irritation occurred by testing the body scrub samples. Body scrubs routinely used by volunteers for 2 months increased moisture on the skin as well as brightness (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Body scrub creams containing VCO, coffee grounds and activated carbon are preparations that have the potential to be cosmetic cleansers.

Abstract Background Over time human skin thins and loses elasticity; topical treatments attempt to reverse this process. Objectives The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of TransFORM Body Treatment (TFB) in skin rejuvenation compared to a bland moisturizer on the extensor and volar forearms. Methods Blinded participants were given 2 products to apply on the designated forearms with follow-up at 4, 8, and 12 weeks. Measurements included skin thickness, photography, dermatopathology, cutaneous elasticity determined by 2 different methods, and patient-reported outcomes. All were compared to baseline. Results Changes between bland moisturizer and TFB were recorded for the following parameters. (1) Roughness: extensor –0.09 mm for bland moisturizer and –0.26 mm for TFB (P = 0.174); volar 0.01 mm for bland moisturizer and –0.23 mm for TFB (P = 0.004). (2) Recoil velocity: volar –56°/sec for bland moisturizer and –24°/sec for TFB (P = 0.61); extensor –95°/sec for bland moisturizer and –63°/sec for TFB (P = 0.57). Retraction speed: volar –3.25 ms for bland moisturizer and –20.08 ms for TFB (P = 0.33); extensor –2.17 ms for bland moisturizer and –10.83 ms for TFB (P = 0.66). Histologically, TFB resulted in an increase in mucopolysaccharide content, new collagen, and number of elastin fibers in the papillary dermis. Changes in the Rao-Goldman score were also observed: volar –0.17 for bland moisturizer and –0.33 for TFB (P = 0.25); extensor –0.08 for bland moisturizer and –0.17 for TFB (P = 0.36). Conclusions Histology showed production of new collagen and elastin. Quantification of changes in skin thickness, skin retraction speed, and skin recoil velocity showed trends that agree with the visual data. Level of Evidence: 4

It is then followed by the clustering of female consumers of skin moisturizer based on ethnocentrism and differentiating each cluster’s consumer-based brand equity dimensions towards a domestic skin moisturizer brand Mustika Ratu, skin moisturizer. Research used descriptive survey method analysis. Primary data was obtained through questionnaire distribution to 70 female respondents for factor analysis and 120 female respondents for cluster analysis and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA). This research employed factor analysis to obtain relevant factors contributing to the five dimensions of consumer-based brand equity in skin moisturizer industry. Cluster analysis and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were to see the difference of consumer-based brand equity between highly ethnocentric consumer and low ethnocentric consumer towards the same skin moisturizer domestic brand, Mustika Ratu skin moisturizer. Research found in all individual dimension analysis, all variable means and individual means show distinct difference between the high ethnocentric consumer and the low ethnocentric consumer. The low ethnocentric consumer cluster tends to be lower in mean score of Brand Loyalty, Perceived Quality, Brand Awareness, Brand Association, and Overall Brand Equity than the high ethnocentric consumer cluster. Research concludes consumer ethnocentrism is positively correlated with preferences towards domestic products and negatively correlated with foreign-made product preference. It is, then, highly ethnocentric consumers have positive perception towards domestic product.

BACKGROUND<br />Dry skin is a major skin health problem in elderly. Green tea, which has an antioxidant effect, has recently been used as an active ingredient in moisturizing creams; yet the effect has not been well studied. This study compares the skin hydration effect of green tea and vitamin E moisturizer among elderly.<br /><br />METHODS<br />This quasi-experimental study involved 60 elderly living in Tresna Werda Budi Mulia 4 Social Institution, Jakarta. Using the Runve HL 611 skin analyzer, skin capacitance was measured prior to experiment and every following week during the 5-week application of green tea and vitamin E skin moisturizer on both forearms. The consecutive measurement data was analyzed using Generalized Estimating Equation to compare the relative changes in skin hydration between the two moisturizer groups over 5 weeks of intervention. <br /><br />RESULTS<br />The green tea moisturizer showed more significant increases in skin hydration level than the vitamin E moisturizer at all measurement sites on right arm and proximal left arm (p= 0.021), and medial and distal left arm (p= 0.034). Skin hydration levels significantly changed over time at proximal (p=0.021), medial (p=0.006) and distal (p=0.006) right arm, and medial left arm (p=0.021). A parallel trend of skin hydration improvements for both moisturizer groups indicated no correlation between the moisturizer type and the duration of usage (p &gt;0.05) in all measurement locations. No side effects were observed during application period in both groups.<br /><br />CONCLUSION<br />Routine use of moisturizer containing green tea may improve skin hydration in elderly.

The goals of the topical treatment of patients suffering from atopic dermatitis are suppression of the inflammatory reaction in the skin, elimination of itching, and recovery of the damaged protective lipid barrier of the epidermis. In this connection, topical glucocorticosteroids and skin moisturizers are used in the therapy of patients suffering from atopic dermatitis. Methylprednisolone aceponate (MPA, Advantan) being a topical glucocorticosteroid is characterized by high efficacy and safety. MPA is marked by the fast development of the therapeutic effect. This drug can be used for children older than 4 months and can be applied once a day. The availability of four dosage forms of MPA (emulsion, cream, ointment and fatty ointment) enables physicians to select a therapy with the use of this drug depending on the stage and localization of the skin lesion. Dexpanthenol (Bepanthen) being a tissue repair stimulator moisturizes the skin, protects the skin against an irritant effect, and restores the protective lipid barrier of the epidermis. The use of a combination of MPA being a topical glucocorticosteroid and dexpanthenol being a tissue repair stimulator can enhance the efficacy of the treatment of patients suffering from atopic dermatitis.

This research was conducted to produce and determine liquid soap products that function as skin moisturizers and can inhibit microbial growth. In the process of making this liquid soap, two formulas are used, namely formula 1 which is made from coconut oil and alkali of KOH with the addition of olive oil and formula 2 which is made from coconut oil and alkali of KOH without the addition of olive oil . The manufacture of liquid soap in this study was carried out experimentally using the hot process method. Organoleptic testing with parameters of foam, skin dryness, and skin moisture was carried out using analytical observational and questionnaire methods involving fifteen correspondents. Testing the inhibition of microbial growth using Staphylococcus aureus bacteria contamination. The results obtained from this research are liquid soap formula 1 and formula 2 have a lot of foam and a very strong microbial growth retardant power, liquid soap formula 1 can moisturize the skin, and liquid soap formula 2 dries the skin. The results of this research, God willing, will be a reference for the author to continue this research to the stage of perfection and it is hoped that the results of this research can also be useful for the ummah and the nation in realizing a healthy life .

Objective. Emollient cream moisturizers are often used on premature newborns in neonatal intensive care units without accurate knowledge of the risks or benefits to the neonate. Design. We prospectively compared premature neonates treated with a water-in-oil emollient cream for up to 16 days to untreated premature neonates. Setting. The study was completed in a neonatal intensive care unit on neonates admitted for respiratory distress and/or possible sepsis. Patients. Thirty-four neonates, between 29 and 36 weeks estimated gestational age, entered the study. Interventions. One-half of the neonates were treated twice a day with an water-in-oil emollient cream, and the other half served as controls. Outcome Measures. The skin condition of the neonates' hands, feet, and abdomen was evaluated on entering the study and twice a week. Fungal cultures and quantitative bacterial cultures were obtained from the axilla and abdomen on entering the study and twice a week. Results. The mean gestational age of the treated neonates was 32.3 weeks, whereas the mean gestational age of the control neonates was 32.5 weeks. The neonates treated with emollient cream demonstrated statistically less dermatitis of their hands (day 2 through day 11), their feet (day 2 through day 16), and their abdomen (day 7 through day 11). Fungal cultures and quantitative bacterial cultures of the abdomen and axilla were equivalent in both groups. Conclusions. These studies document that emollient cream moisturizer therapy of premature neonates decreases dermatitis without changing the microbiological flora.

The review summarizes information about the main causes and pathogenesis of xerosis cutis as one of the conditions indicating a violation of the epidermal barrier. Xerosis cutis is a clinical sign of a decrease in the amount and/or quality of lipids and/or hydrophilic substances in the stratum corneum of the epidermis. The modern approach to the treatment of dermatoses accompanied by violations of the epidermal barrier includes basic moisturizers. Urea not only moisturizes the skin. It is involved in the regulation of barrier function and antimicrobial protection. It is a low-molecular regulator of protein synthesis in keratinocytes, such as filaggrin, loricrin, involucrin and transglutaminase 1, cathelicidin, beta-defensin-2, water and urea carrier proteins into the cell, as well as proteins that promote the synthesis of intercellular matrix lipids. The main dermatotropic pharmacological effects of urea (hydration of the epidermis, strengthening of the barrier function of the skin, keratolytic effect, increased penetration of drugs into the skin) have been used in dermatological practice for many years. External agents with urea are used to treat skin diseases accompanied by dryness and excessive keratinization, to correct the deformation of nail plates of various genesis, to facilitate the local penetration of medicines. The use of topical UrocrEM5, UrocrEM10, Uroderm ointments containing 5%, 10% and 30% urea, respectively, is effective and safe.

The effects of moisturized inflow on turbocharger compressor performance and aerodynamic noise were numerical analyzed in this paper. The gas-liquid two-phase flow method based on Euler-Lagrange model was firstly introduced. The influence of water concentration and water droplet diameter on compressor performance and internal flow characteristics at design speed were studied using the two-phase flow method. The compressor aerodynamic noise was also predicted at design condition under two different inflow conditions, including ideal inflow and moisturized inflow with 0.1% water concentration. The results indicate that moisturized inflow with an appropriate water concentration can reduce the outlet temperature of the compressor and improve the compressor performance, in which the water concentration is a dominant parameter. There is a phase transition process of water in the compressor with moisturized inflow, but moisturized inflow has little effects on the compressor internal flow characteristics. Moreover, the moisturized inflow also has influence on compressor aerodynamic noise.

Cosmetics are preparations or combination of ingredients that ready to be used on the outside of body such as epidermis, hair, nails, lips, teeth and oral cavity. It has a function to clean, increase the attractiveness, change the appearance and protect it to keep the condition in a good state, improve body odor but not intended to cure a disease. The extraction method used to obtain seaweed extract is the maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. The test method for hydration test uses TEWL within the Derma lab combo tool. Meanwhile, the hedonic test used 20 panelists to determine the level of suitability in lip balm preparations. This Research is about formulation and activity test of seaweed extract (Sargassum binderi) and sunflower oil kenaga (Cananga oil) as lip moisturizer. The purpose of this study was to utilize natural ingredients and determine the evaluation of lipbalm from seaweed and cananga flower oil which has a function to increase the moisture level of lip. The formulation of lipbalm was made by three concentrations, formulation 1, formulation 2 and formulation 3. Evaluation was done to test the skin irritation, skin hydration and hedonic test. The method of skin hydration helps to enhancer and moisture the skin by TEWL (transepodermal water loss) tool of derma lab combo. The result of this research showed that all the formulas does not irritate the skin, moisturize and preferred by the panelists. In the third formula, it has a result to increase the humidity of skin within the high significant differences among the three formulas.
