In the 1970s, Michael Bevan showed that T cells only recognize antigens in cells that have the same type of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecule present in the thymus where the T cells mature. His work provided the first clues to how thymic self-MHC molecules select the cells that make up the mature T cell repertoire.

Thompson, Fellow of the Royal Society, whose current affiliations are as follows: (i) Honorary Fellow, Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, Centre for Mathematical Sciences, University of Cambridge; (ii) Emeritus Professor of Nonlinear Dynamics, Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, University College London; and (iii) Professor of Theoretical and Applied Dynamics (Distinguished Sixth Century Chair, part-time), University of Aberdeen. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors at ES-Consult (consulting engineers) in Copenhagen, Denmark. The pertinent question that arises from the very start is: should we first salute Michael and then describe the Theme Issue, or vice versa? Indeed, according to Blaise Pascal (1623–1662), the last thing one discovers in composing a work is what to put first. I would like to take the liberty of deviating from the tradition of the Philosophical Transactions and start with the tribute to Michael; after all he is the prime cause of this Theme Issue.

Os ciclones de escala sinótica são responsáveis por grandes mudanças no tempo das regiões onde atuam. Nos últimos anos tem aumentado o número de sistemas tropicais severos. Por exemplo, o ciclone Michael, ocorrido em outubro de 2018, causou muitos danos nos Estados Unidos (U$25 bilhões em prejuízo), inclusive 16 óbitos. Diante desse contexto, o objetivo do presente estudo é a análise sinótica da gênese e transição extratropical do ciclone Michael. Michael teve gênese no mar do Caribe, no dia 6 de outubro de 2018, associada a uma perturbação ciclônica em baixos níveis da atmosfera. O sistema chegou a categoria 5 na escala de Saffir-Simpson no dia 10 de outubro; já no dia 11 de outubro transicionou para ciclone extratropical e decaiu no dia 18 de outubro. A análise sinótica mostra que transição extratropical ocorre à medida que o sistema interage com uma região de intenso gradiente horizontal de temperatura do ar. Cyclone Michael: genesis and extratropical transition A B S T R A C T Synoptic-scale cyclones are responsible for major changes in the weather in the regions where they act. In recent years the number of severe tropical systems has increased. For example, cyclone Michael, which occurred in October 2018, caused a lot of damage in the United States ($ 25 billion in damage) including 16 deaths. Given this context, the objective of the present study is the synoptic analysis of the genesis and extratropical transition of cyclone Michael. Michael had genesis in the Caribbean Sea on October 6, 2018, associated with a cyclonic disturbance in low levels of the atmosphere. The system reached category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale on 10 October; on the 11 October it transitioned to an extratropical cyclone and decayed on the 18 October. The synoptic analysis shows that extratropical transition occurs as the system interacts with a region of intense horizontal air temperature gradient. Анотація:
This research aims to find out the figurative language in Michael Jackson song lyrics. Therefore, the researchers formulated a question as the problem. As follows: (1) what are the kinds of figurative language in Michael Jackson�s song lyrics? (2) What is the dominant type of figurative language in Michael Jackson�s song lyrics? This research used Perrine theories to analysis kinds of figurative language in Michael Jackson song lyrics. There are 12 types of figurative language according to Perrine they are: simile, metaphor, personification, apostrophe, synecdoche, metonymy, symbol, allegory, paradox, hyperbole/overstatement, understatement, and irony. The researchers used qualitative design because data are collected by using document in form of word and a procedure of systematic analysis of context text (words, phrase, sentences, document, etc), analysis content by qualitative enable researchers to understand the text by grouping words that have same meaning into categories. The researchers used ten song from the website Genius.com as an instrument to find the data to be analyzed based types of figurative language. The researchers finding showed that are 6 types of figurative language that found in Michael Jackson�s Songs namely: personification, apostrophe, metaphor, hyperbole, simile and symbol. While, there are 6 types of figurative language weren�t found in Michael Jackson�s Songs namely: synecdoche, metonymy, allegory, paradox, understatement, and irony. After analyzing all the data the researchers found the types of figurative language are dominantly used in Michael Jackson�s songs are hyperbole consists of 11 sentences (30%).
