Large-sized additively manufactured components made of thermoplastic polymer materials has experienced significant growth since the 2010s, the arrival of innovative materials having made possible to achieve a leap forward in terms of intrinsic mechanical properties. Large-scale demonstrators manufacturing, developed within the scientific literature, has highlighted therelevance of this process for the realization of structural (sports equipments, pedestrian bridges) and non-structural (large-dimension molds and tools) applications. Indeed, the advantages of this process are numerous, such as for example personalized components manufacturing or costs and lead times reduction. However, large-scale demonstrators manufacturing scientific obstacles resulting from state-of-the-art analysis emerges:- “trial - error - correction” procedure is costly in time, resources and money. There is no consensus on a generic method that allows large components manufacturing preparation;- issues concerning toolpaths generation in order to comply with specifications and the choice of a suitable manufacturing means must be resolved. Within the framework of this manuscript is developed a preparation methodology for large-sized components manufacturing made from fused thermoplastic polymer materials. It offers preparation for generic manufacturing, based on a set of process specific rules integrating the consideration of the previously mentioned issues. The steps of the methodology are processed chronologically in each chapter of the manuscript in which the specific issues and the solutions put in place to resolve them are explained. A research axis dedicated to components reinforcement from continuous fibers reinforced materials in order to overcome mechanical properties anisotropy, inherent in additive processes based on fused thermoplastic polymer materials is notably developed. Finally, large-scale demonstrators manufacturing makes it possible to highlight the methodology relevance but also the perspectives that can be brought to it

In the development of microelectronic technologies, the failure analysis makes it possible to define corrective actions thanks to the understanding of the failure mechanism. In order to define the most adequate localization and observation techniques to use, a failure analysis flow is required. The sample preparation is a key step of this flow. This flow must continuously evolve to take into account the technological innovations that introduce new materials, and increase the complexity of assembled components. This work concerned the sample preparation flow for the failure analysis of two product families : the discrete products and IPAD, and the micro-batteries. Concerning the discrete products and the IPAD, an optimization of the current flow was performed with the integration of new approaches developed to solve failed cases. For the micro-batteries, the used materials and their architecture required an entire reappraisal of the sample preparation flow

Emphasizing the integration of Additive Manufacturing (AM) into big industrial companies becomes crucial for subcontractors. Teaching additive processes and design rules is a techno-centric vision. It is not sufficient to project future applications of additive manufacturing in various industries such as aeronautics, energy, medical, etc. On one hand, the state of the art and field observations show that AM knowledge is steadily increasing. On the other hand, the state of the art about creativity shows that individuals creative capacity can be stimulated to guide them to the generation of creative ideas and concepts. This thesis then explores a possible linking between AM and creativity in order to propose a methodology and its application tools to stimulate creativity, in the specific context of additive manufacturing. This approach allowed us to bring out the major role of intermediate objects which articulate the interactions between several dimensions of the creative capacity: motivations, emotions, knowledge exploration, individual/collective work phases and spatial organization. It also highlighted the need for a new definition of intermediate objects’ roles regarding additive manufacturing. In this sense, we designed two operational devices, based on sensory manipulation of tangible objects, and tested them in real industrial contexts. Our experimental results show that the exploration of the knowledge embodied in these devices emphasizes the generation of creative ideas opening to potential applications of additive manufacturing. Finally, a model of Creativity Through Additive Manufacturing (CTAM) has been proposed. It enables us to contribute both to the methodological practices of design science and operational practices in two fields: the additive manufacturing industry and the field of innovation

The aim of this thesis is to propose a design methodology to produce parts using additivemanufacturing (AM). Compared to standard manufacturing processes, as machining, forming, casting ormolding, AM processes have new features for manufacturing multi-material parts, nondetachableassemblies or complex shapes. The arrival of this new technology involves a paradigm shift that requiressupport to designers to develop quality products. Also the mechanical and finishing specifications of theparts obtained by AM depend on their orientation during the manufacturing. Furthermore, depending onthe process, the desired geometry and the orientation, it could be necessary to integrate a support in orderto ensure manufacturability of the part. We define a design methodology that respects the integrity of thedigital channel and whose purpose is to produce a sliced numerical model ready to be manufactured on anAM machine. For this, our methodology is based on data from functional specification and businessknowledge of the process indicated by the designer, to automatically propose a first solid geometry whichsatisfies all these requirements. After this first step, a step of topological optimization restricts the volumeof the part in order to reduce its weight, cost and manufacturing time. Finally, if necessary, optimizedsupport ensuring the manufacturability of the part is generated according to the same criteria. Thismethodology is accompanied by an industrial case study as well as of two experiments to observe thepossibility to finish parts made of ABS with acetone. The first experiment is an experimental design whichmeasures the obtained surface finish based on the temperature of the acetone, the operating time, theinclination of the surfaces of the piece and its thickness. The second experiment is a tensile stress testdesigned to observe a change in the mechanical resistance of the part. Regardless of the type of machineand the AM process, the methodology we propose is a first concrete step towards obtaining directlycompliant parts, whether for industrial or domestic use

Lipogelosomes® (LGS) are simple lamelar liposomes whose in aqueous volume are composed of a blend of semi-solid hermoreversible gel. The presence of gelling phase confers upon LGS a strong stability mediated by the reduction of the interparticlated fusions, by a weaker mobility and by a decrease of the leak of locked components as well. After establishing a formulation of gellifiants, several methods of production have been defined by granulometrical and rheological levels during a time dependance of fabrication. The results demonstrate that in the solution takes place an unremitting process of desaggregation-reaggregation of the particles. This fact is confirmed by a physical interpretation enabling to validate the theory according to varies models. Filtering tests have been performed in order to eradicate the gelliferous phase exterior to LGS for further applications. Finally, tests of LGS size have been carried out through incorporating a surfactant after the fabrication period. Photographies of electron microscopy as well as Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) confirm the structure, the size and the behaviour of these particles. This formulation is actually under a developing process on a semi-industrial pilot with a perspective pharmaceutical application

To reduce costs and time in a context of more and more complex product, we have chosen the solution of design and manufacturing hybrid rapid tooling. These tools are quickly evolving and make it possible to obtain a different variations of a product. The present research is based on previous thesis written by the team concerning feasibility and manufacturing analysis. It presents a methodology based on a graph representation. This graph representation use 3 items: the manufacturing and assembly approach and synthesis. - The goal of ‘Fabrication’ is to present one or more solutions in order to maximize the manufacturing of each module of our system. This optimisation is obtained by concurrent analyses processes. - ‘Assembling’ is based on a databank. It suggests standard assembling allowing the integration of several modules composing the hybrid system whilst respecting the caracteristics of the original monobloc prototype. In order to achieve this, we have created the concept of Assembling Identity Card (CIA) which makes it possible to fully define the databank’s standard assembling. These standard assembling, specified thanks to a tolerancing method (CLIC), are able to create a hybrid mold assembling following the original contract. - Lastly, ‘synthesis’ makes it possible to validate the choices made by both ‘Fabrication’ and ‘Assembling’ approaches. Our methodology has been fully tested in industrial application. Using our method and its tooling has allowed us to suggest the elaboration and manufacturing of a coherent hybrid mold which answers all requirements made by clients

Since its discovery in 2004, graphene has attracted the attention of the scientific community due to its unique properties as well as the diversity of its potential applications. Nevertheless, its implementation at industrial scale still requires many challenges including its performance stability. The objective of my PhD is to develop a technological process for the fabrication of devices integrating low-doped graphene and exhibiting stable electrical characteristics. As graphene is extremely sensitive to the environment, it is crucial to protect its surface to accurately control its properties. To do this, several technological approaches have been analyzed using the statistical characteristics of more than 500 transistors. The optimal process integrates a “protection” layer after graphene transfer and the passivation of the fabricated devices with an oxide layer. 75% of the passivated transistors were functional, with low hysteresis and time-stable performances. These criteria are essential for the integration of graphene in discrete components, in particular for optoelectronic devices.Subsequently, the technological process developed was adapted for the fabrication of graphene based coplanar waveguides for high frequency photodetection. We report on a measured photocurrent of 0.15 mA/W with a 1.55 µm laser modulated up to 40 GHz. This technology is currently studied for the fabrication of high frequency optoelectronic mixers

Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, the nearby Peak Oil and the increase of fossil fuel prices led France to implement a national program called Energy Economy Certificates, among other actions. This program imposes on the energy suppliers, of which EDF, to generate energy savings within their sites and within their clients. For Small and Medium-sized Industries (SMIs), the costs of thorough energy analyses might be out of their means. The goal of this thesis is to develop a methodology that limits the time and cost of the analysis, as well as the number and precision of the necessary data. Existing energy and exergy analysis methodologies were reviewed in detail, pointing out their advantages and disadvantages. A Process Energy and Exergy Analysis (PEEA) method has been developed. This method includes three steps, of which the first one, called Process Analysis (PA) is fundamental and constitutes an upstream work performed one time for every type of product. This step consists in determining the Minimal Required Energy (MRE) to transform a raw material into final product, after which the Best Transformation Process is determined. The PA was applied to several unitary industrial operations in order to demonstrate the generic and systematic factors of the method. Afterwards, the method was directly applied to the analysis of a cheese manufacturing industry. Results showed that this method is applicable for every level of energy auditing (either low or high cost energy audits), and that it allows for identification of energy efficient solutions, usually not identifiable by traditional energy analysis methods

The United Nations aims to modernize industries in order to make them sustainable and more environmentally friendly by 2030. In order to meet these expectation, it is necessary to put in place ways of improving production processes from an environmental point of view. This approach requires a detailed knowledge of the incoming and outgoing flows during the manufacturing of a product. However, this is not the case for additive manufacturing processes where the environmental impacts generated during this stage are still unknown. For that, a quantitative evaluation of the flows involved during the manufaturing of parts is necessary in order to improve the knowledge of the environmental performance of a process. The work of this thesis focuses on the development of methodology for additive manufacturing processes in order to predict information on the technical, economic, and environmental aspects of a product during the design stage of a part. The methodology developped is increasingly interested in all the sources of consumption as well as all the stages necessary for the manufacturing of a mechanical part. This manuscript is divided into six chapters that can present the general context of the study, the state of the art, the methodology developped, a application of the methodology to additive manufacturing processes and the computer tool developed during this thesis. The last chapter is devoted to the conclusion on the contributions of this work and provides research perspectives

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a promising technology compared to subtractive processes, in terms of cost or freedom of manufacturing functional parts. Among the AM techniques, Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) and Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), included in the Direct Energy Deposition (DED) processes, manufacture parts by directly melting the material in a layer-by-layer maner. Those processes are currently mainly operated in open-loop. Thus, an acceptable part regarding the specified specifications is often the result of a trial-and-error method. In order to improve DED processes performances and to get rid of this trial-and-error method, monitoring and numerical simulation are the most widely investigated solutions. These PhD works propose a generic multiphysic monitoring methodology, based on four independant control loops which can be operated simultaneously. Those control loops are dedicated to the part temperature, geometry, and structural health, and the Stick Out. In these PhD works, control loops have been mainly implemented on the WAAM process, and a specific attention has been devoted to their developments to ensure their applicability to the LMD process. Concurrent to these monitoring develoments, an evaluation of some existing numerical tools has been conducted, in order to integrate simulation together with monitoring in a manufacturing environement. This thesis focus on developping a fault detection methodology for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The proposed approach is based on Principal Components Analysis (PCA) to build a representative model of equipment in adequat operating conditions. Our method exploits collected measurements from equipement sensors, for each processed wafer. However, regarding the industrial context and processes, we have to consider additional problems: collected signals from sensors exhibit different length, or durations. This is a limitation considering PCA. We have also to consider synchronization and alignment problems; semiconductor manufacturing equipment are almost dynamic, with strong temporal correlations between sensor measurements all along processes. To solve the first point, we developped a data preprocessing module to transform raw data from sensors into a convenient dataset for PCA application. The interest is to identify outliers data and products, that can affect PCA modelling. This step is based on expert knowledge, statistical analysis, and Dynamic Time Warping, a well-known algorithm from signal processing. To solve the second point, we propose a combination multiway PCA with the use of an EWMA filter to consider process dynamic. A recursive approach is employed to adapt our PCA model to specific events that can occur on equipment, e.g. maintenance, restart, etc.All the steps of our methodology are illustrated with data from a chemical vapor deposition tool exploited in STMicroelectroics Rousset fab. Finally, the efficiency and industrial interest of the proposed methodologies are verified by considering multiple equipment types on longer operating periods

The complexity of the parts to be manufactured leads to an indispensable recourse to digital media for trajectory planning such as Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software. However, a real imbalance is noted between the wide range of 5-axis finishing operations currently available in CAM software and the lack of solutions for the roughing sequence, which can though improve the productivity of the overall machining process. This thesis manuscript therefore tackles the development of a simultaneous 5-axis toolpath planning methodology for the roughing sequence. Guiding curves are used to create a geometric path which allows the tool to travel the whole volume to remove, and thus ensure a maximum material removal. Guiding curves are built automatically from the numerical model of the workpiece and implemented algorithms for calculating curve and surface offsets using vector methods or scalar fields. The orientations of the tool along the guiding curves are then determined by a Sequential Quadratic Programming algorithm, according to criteria of productivity, tool behaviour, and surface quality, by searching for a specific parameterization of the guiding curves. The implementation of the 5-axis roughing strategy in the TopSolid CAM software enabled machining tests with toroidal cutter, which allowed the strategy's validation on typical parts of the aerospace industry

Heparan sulfate (HS) is a linear polysaccharide found in animal tissues at the cell surface or in the extracellular matrix. HS chains display alternating highly negatively charged regions (S) and less charged ones (A). SAS domains with different topologies can thus be exposed at the cell surface with the aim of interacting specifically with different proteins. Gamma interferon (INF-γ) is a cytokine that binds tightly to HS chains. This interaction allows controlling numerous bioactivities of the cytokine (accumulation and location in tissues as well as blood clearance). The discovery of HS fragment able to modulate the activity of IFN-γ could open the way to new innovative therapeutics. To this aim we launched a program aiming at synthesizing mimetic of the SAS motifs found in HS. We devised a strategy allowing linking two synthetic S fragments of HS through a spacer. To this aim we selected two click chemistry reactions: the "CuAAC" triazole formation and "oxime ligation". To implement this strategy, we optimized, on a disaccharide model derived from cellobiose, a methodology allowing the functionalization of the reducing and non-reducing end of synthetic oligosaccharides by to orthogonal reactive functions. Then we extended the methodology to a HS tetrasaccharide fragment. In this work, we optimized two key reactions: an anomeric alkylation in water and a hydroxyl allylation in neutral condition

The concept of plm (product lifecycle management) fits in numerical chain and provides a process approach of the project, which is increasingly used in companies. Project integrate many internal and external contributors, that's why a project has now a collaborative approach. The contributors number brings to difficulties to use tools (beside by the fact that those contributors are often not well trained). Therefore, the aim of this manuscript is to focus on process modeling of industrial sme's(small and medium enterprises). Available tools on the market are not easily accessible for sme's and the particular training cannot be supported by sme's. Therefore we propose a working methodology and a simple tool for modeling processes. The work presented in this manuscript describe how a user can simply add their views in a collaborative process, how it can quickly find information and how to exploit them. For this we take several examples that are related to local french smes and take into account the linck between cad / cae

UMR PAnTher identified a population of muscle-derived stem cells, named MuStem cells, and provided the proof of concept/efficacy of its systemic delivery in the clinically relevant animal model for the orphan disease Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The identification of this population in Human with similar phenotypic and behavioral properties reinforced the positioning of MuStem cell population as potential candidate for the treatment of MDs. This thesis is a part of the preclinical approach toward the definition of clinical-compliant in vitro preparation modalities. First, comparative in vitro studies allowed defining a production process with respect to the good manufacturing practices by replacement of research grade products. A more extensive study of phenotypic signature and in vitro myogenic commitment enabled the positioning of human serum and platelet lysate as alternatives to fetal bovine serum for the stage of in vitro expansion of the hMuStem cell population. Then, according to the balance between the required cell number for the in vivo protocols and the biological properties in terms of efficacy/safety, the experimental approach designed to evaluate impact of ex vivo expansion time revealed an amplification duration that should not exceed 22-24 population doublings regarding phenotypic heterogeneity and expression of senescence markers. Overall, these results contributed to the improvement of hMuStem cell population preparation in the prospect of the implementation of a clinical trial devoted to patients affected by MDs
