Повний текст джерелаMy thesis examines the diversity of meanings of memory in the work of St Augustine. The latin term "memoria" is encountered with a semantic richness and diversity that goes beyond its most usual meaning : memory as the psychological faculty of retaining memories. This polysemy includes this psychological meaning, of course, but it also includes a cultic meaning that can mean ‘relic’ or ‘tomb’. In this status, the "memoria"- a physical object invested with a religious value and a cultic function – seems very far from memory as a psychic function. Finally, this polysemy can be further enriched by a liturgical meaning linked to the cultic meaning : "memoria" then designates the evocation of the memory of the saint. This semantic diversity is matched by a certain disciplinary compartmentalisation in Augustinian studies. The aspects that interest philosophers and historians of philosophy are those where memory is treated from a psychological and metaphysical point of view. On the other hand, the collective and social aspects of memory are mostly studied by historians. The bibliography shows that memory and history are treated disjointedly by commentators. The scholarly studies devoted to Augustine’s works most often focus either on memory as a faculty or activity of the individual soul (with particular emphasis on "The Confessions" or "The Trinity"); or on memory as the constitution of a collective identity through history (with a focus on "The City of God", "The sermons"," The Commentaries on the Psalms" or "The Homilies on the Gospel of John")

Повний текст джерелаWe started from the hypothesis that the City of God by Augustine is based on a dialectical unity, the books in the second part (IX to XXII) giving a christian interpretation of history thus avoiding the flows and weaknesses of the pagan interpretation denounced in the books of the first part (I to X). Each book or group of books progressively debunks the pagan memory of history in the second part, is set against a higher christian memory. Thus the first three books in the first part expose two flows in the working of the pagan memory – its being incomplete and partial – which the christian memory avoids since the concept of aeternitas allows it to be totalizing and that of ordo to be open to the presence of evil. Books IV to XIII denounce, among what the pagan memory has produced, two ideological tendencies (a political and a religious one) which christian memory has totally set aside as this memory is able to, owing to the ciuitas concept, open up to a mystical ecclesiology and, owing to the pax concept, a teleology of accomplishment. Books IX to X tackle the referent of pagan memory : the Falsa Auctoritas of paganism is set against the Uera Auctoritas of the Writings, which founds the christian memory of history exposed in the following book. Reading the City of God as a book of memory enables one to better grasp its unity : looking at history through the christian auctoritas is an apologetical demonstration of the crystal-clear superiority of christianism over paganism which is incapable of such a vision of history

The initial project of creation of the Reserve, modeled on the sionist ideals and the national context of the creation of the State of lsrael, was finally induced to develop these last years, towards a public issued from diaspora and lacking identity investment, a touristic and memory calling combining planting activities and experimenting a natural scene as a product from history and traditional texts. This crossing of the representations of nature in the jewish culture is followed by a deciphering of the social uses of hiking on thematic trails and of recurrent textual practices associated with, at last of the specific use of commemoration as a relevant tool for reappropriation of memory and territory

Повний текст джерелаThis research is the result of four field surveys carried out between 2004 and 2015 in the northern province of Chimborazo, specifically in Spanish and Quichua speaking rural communities in the Calpi district. This thesis explains how the elaboration of a certain pride in identity is expressed in the particular area of the mountains. The first part of this work retranscribes the mythologies and tales of misfortune depicting the mountains as the abode of sexual and agentive spirits, responsible for the fertilization of the female womb, for attacks on vital forces and for an alteration of the state of people's minds. The effect on human bodies which results from the surrounding heights led the author, in asecond part of her work, to take an interest in both the dynamics of managing misfortune and in therapeutic systems. Based on an observation of purification treatments carried out not only in the hidden hideouts of healers but also within public health structures the author describes the dynamism of therapeutic possibilities and the role of intercultural health policies in the development of a certain medical pluralism. Initially by highlighting the role played by Catholic smugglers, followed by ethnic demands in the 1990s, and finally from the constitutional reforms, the third part of this work analyses the way in which the indigenous view of the world gradually becomes a political issue, and how this new situation is taking shape in various touristic and heritage projects in the mountains. From observation of the relations between men and the mountains, an entire society is seen to be taking shape, rooted in its deepest past and with its most contemporary aspirations

Повний текст джерелаDügü is a possession cult practiced by the Garifuna, an Afro-Amerindian society originated on the isle of Saint-Vincent, located in the Lesser Antilles. After their mass deportation to Central America by the British Crown in 1797, in the present, the Garifuna are a homogenous and transnational group scattered along the Atlantic Coast of Central America. Unlike the majority of Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Brazilian cults, the African deities do not appear in the cosmological structure of the Dügü. Instead, the Garifuna worship two categories of spiritual entities: the hiuruha and the gubida, the spirits of the dead. As a traditional religious cult, the Dügü is not based on any form of dogma and relies rather upon ritual practice. The ancestral entities are believed to act on the bodies of their living descendants by spirit possession. In the religious repertoire, ancestors follow a precise itinerary from Yurumein, the original motherland, from where they navigate on the Caribbean Sea to finally arrive to Honduras, the land of the exile. This memory remains entrenched in the Dügü and it survives beneath the surface of individuals’unconscious realms. Ancestors become visible in dreams, in hallucinatory visions and they are also the instigators of illness and misfortune. This legacy also gave birth to an important character for its propagation: the buyei. Also known as a medium and a traditional healer, the garifuna religion relies on the leadership of such ritual character. Nevertheless, in order to achieve this position, candidates most go through initiation rites that will profoundly transform their own personal identity. The main purpose of this present study is to describe and analyze the buyei’s initiation journey, which relies on two years of ethnographic research in Honduras. It argues how this character evolves into a living-support for a group’s historical memory due to the ability to master spirit possession. Possession is highly valued in the Dügü, since it is conceptualized as a direct contact with the dead. Moreover, an important place will be accorded to the expression of the fluctuating ontology of the spirits during ritual and non-ritual contexts. Finally, I intend to show here that the garifuna case reveals ostensibly how the link between tradition and individual experience turns out to be a relevant keystone in transmission dynamics

Повний текст джерелаBecause of its oracle and games, the sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi was ornated with monuments (treasuries, stoats, statues'bases) given by the faithful from all over the Grecian world and even from elsewhere. The unhellenic offerings are quite numerous in the archaic period. At the classical age the sanctuary is a place for commemoration of Greek victories over barbarians. At the Hellenistic age, offerers are most neighbors. This trend goes on at the imperial age where offerings are given by delphians. Nost monuments show the offerer's gratefulnessafter a military victory, a crown in the games from the hellenistic period on, honorific momunents became numerous, the study of monuments shows architectural and iconographic trends and demonstrated the care of offerers to be acknowleged. The classic period momunents shew the struggle for leadership in grece. In the imperial period thezy threw light upon a moral ideology on grecian history. After having been used as quarries for the kastri people, they became a subject of study, focus of tourism and sources of inspiration for artists
