Abstract Clinical engineering professionals need to continually review and improve their management strategies in order to keep up with improvements in equipment technology, as well as with increasing expectations of health care organizations. In the last 20 years, management strategies have evolved from the initial obsession with electrical safety to flexible criteria that fit the individual institution's needs. Few hospitals, however, are taking full advantage of the paradigm shift offered by the evolution of Joint Commission standards. The focus should be on risks caused by equipment failure, rather than on equipment with highest maintenance demands. Furthermore, it is not enough to consider risks posed by individual pieces of equipment to individual patients. It is critical to anticipate the impact of an equipment failure on larger groups of patients, especially when dealing with one of a kind, sophisticated pieces of equipment that are required to provide timely and accurate diagnoses for immediate therapeutic decisions or surgical interventions. A strategy for incorporating multiple criteria to formulate appropriate management strategies is provided in this article.

Appropriate deployment of technological innovation contributes to improvement in the quality of health care delivered, the containment of cost, and access to health care services. Hospitals have been allocating a significant portion of their resources to procuring and managing capital assets; they are continuously faced with demands for newer medical technology and are challenged to interoperate and manage legacy and newer generation of inventory simultaneously. To objectively manage this investment over it life cycle, hospitals are adopting medical technology management programs that need pertinent information and planning methodology for integrating new equipment into existing operations as well as for optimizing costs of ownership of all equipment. Clinical engineers can identify technological solutions based on the matching of new medical equipment with the hospital’s objectives. They can review their institution’s overall technological position, determine strengths and weaknesses, develop equipment-selection criteria, supervise installations, train users and monitor post procurement performance to assure meeting of goals. This program, together with cost accounting analysis, will objectively guide the capital assets decision-making process. Cost accounting analysis is a multivariate function that includes determining the amount, based upon a strategic plan and financial resources, of funding to be allocated periodically for medical equipment acquisition and replacement. Often this function works closely with clinical engineering to establish equipment’s useful lifespan, prioritization of acquisition, upgrade, and replacement of inventory within budget confines and without conducting time-consuming, individual financial capital project evaluations. The clinical engineer’s skills and expertise are needed to facilitate the adoption of an objective methodology for implementing the program, thus improving the match between the hospital’s needs and budget projections, equipment performance and cost of ownership. Systematic planning and execution will result in a program that assures appropriate inventory level at the lowest life-cycle costs at optimal performance.

As we’ve continued to explore Internet of Things (IoT) in its various applications, there has been no shortage of innovation. From medical quality to patient safety applications use in the healthcare industry, IoT has shown its worth across the board. Just as it’s helped organizations in healthcare industry thrive, the power of IoT could also mean big things for the management of medical equipment. That is to say, connected equipment’s sensors could pave the way for a fundamental change in the depth and quality of service medical equipment is able to provide. In our study, we constructed the life cycle of gastroendoscope, is used to look inside the oesophagus (gullet), stomach and first part of the small intestine (duodenum). From the procurement of equipment, the use of management to investment efficiency tracking can be applied through IoT to improve the efficiency of management. For example, we can use IoT unique identification function to carry out the inventory management, retirement and other operations. In addition, it can also be used in the management of the medical equipment to track the location, use of records, cleaning records and maintenance management. Finally, we can extract the above information to analyze the investment to evaluate the efficiency of the medical equipment. In summary, we use IoT technique in the different stages of the medical equipment life cycle, because it can provide a more accurate management model, so that users can more efficiently manage the use of equipment to improve it’s investment efficiency. The internet of things will improve the management of medical equipment that can go a long way in not only increasing equipment efficiency, but medical quality as well.

ABSTRACT Equipment utilization management is the evaluation of the medical equipment necessity, appropriateness, and efficiency of the use in the healthcare services or procedures. The investment on an equipment is said to be a good one if it shows a utilization coefficient of 50% or above. The study was descriptive observational in nature and was conducted in the Histopathology Department, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The data for the entire year of 2012 was collected by studying various records of the department including purchase files, inventory registers, log books and service records of medical equipments. The results indicated that the Utilization Coefficients of various diagnostic equipments in the department of Histopathology, PGIMER, Chandigarh for the year 2012 were in the order of 58.1, 62.1 and 60.4% for high cost, medium cost and low cost equipments respectively. On an average, the utilization coefficient of medical equipments under study (Year 2012) of the Histopathology Department, PGIMER, Chandigarh, was found to be 60.2% (above 50%). This figure reflects that the budget spent on average medical diagnostic equipment in this department is very much justifiable. The study also showed that the cost incurred on various cost categories of diagnostic equipments, i.e. the low, medium and high cost equipments was also equally important. Selecting medical equipment is a complex multidisciplinary task requiring mathematical tools, considering associated uncertainties. This paper offers an in-depth study of multiple-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) methods to identify the most appropriate ones for performing management tasks in resource-limited settings. The chosen articles were divided into three topics: evaluation of projects and equipment, selection of projects and equipment, and development of medical devices. Three methods (analytic hierarchy process [AHP], multi-attribute utility theory and elimination and choice expressing reality) were selected for detailed analyses of their application for medical equipment management. Twenty-one work using MCDA, artificial neural networks, human factors engineering, and value analysis were analysed in the framework of medical equipment management. The important aspects of the procedure were described, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages. It was determined that the AHP approach corresponds to all defined criteria for selecting large medical equipment. Managing large medical equipment using MCDA will reduce uncertainties, and provide a rational selection and purchase of the most efficient equipment in resource-limited settings. The direction for improving the AHP method was determined.

The management level of medical equipment is an important index to evaluate the modernization degree of hospitals and it is also the basic element of medical and scientific research work, which plays a key role in the development of medical clinical science. Under the background of the rapid development of modern Internet of Things (IoT) technology, hospitals should be fully aware of the role of Internet of Things technology in hospital medical equipment management. With the increasing demand for refined management of medical equipment in hospitals, the application potential of the Internet of Things technology in medical equipment management has gradually become prominent. The management of medical equipment in a hospital is an important part of the management of the hospital, which is related to the medical level, service quality, and economic benefits of the hospital. In this paper, we have analyzed current problems in the management of medical equipment in hospitals, discussed the application of the Internet of Things technology in the management of medical equipment, and promoted the management of medical equipment to be more intelligent and automated. Experimental results have verified that the proposed scheme could be one of the trustworthy automated systems, preferably technology assisted, for the proper management of the medical equipment particularly in hospitals.

The continuous progress in modern medicine is not only the level of medical technology, but also various high-tech medical auxiliary equipment. With the rapid development of hospital information construction, medical equipment plays a very important role in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis observation of the disease. However, the continuous growth of the types and quantity of medical equipment has caused considerable difficulties in the management of hospital equipment. In order to improve the efficiency of medical equipment management in hospital, based on cloud computing and the Internet of Things, this paper develops a comprehensive management system of medical equipment and uses the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm and chicken swarm algorithm to help the system reasonably achieve dynamic task scheduling. The purpose of this paper is to develop a comprehensive intelligent management system to master the procurement, maintenance, and use of all medical equipment in the hospital, so as to maximize the scientific management of medical equipment in the hospital. Scientific Management. It is very necessary to develop a preventive maintenance plan for medical equipment. From the experimental data, it can be seen that when the system simultaneously accesses 100 simulated users online, the corresponding time for submitting the equipment maintenance application form is 1228 ms, and the accuracy rate is 99.8%. When there are 1000 simulated online users, the corresponding time for submitting the equipment maintenance application form is 5123 ms, and the correct rate is 99.4%. On the whole, the medical equipment management information system has excellent performance in stress testing. It not only predicts the initial performance requirements, but also provides a large amount of data support for equipment management and maintenance.
