Experimental laboratory research was performed to study the effect of test section width on the magnitude of acoustic resonance generated in a small pitch ratio staggered tube bank. Three different test section widths were studied: 505mm, 714mm, and 953mm. The results for acoustic resonance were compared to the tube bank data of Blevins and Bressler (1993, J. Sound Vib., 164(3), pp. 503–533), Ziada, Bolleter, and Chen (1984, ASME Symposium on Flow-Induced Vibrations, ASME, New York, Vol. 2, pp. 227–242); Ziada, Oengören, and Buhlmann (1989, J. Fluids and Struct., 3, pp. 293–324), and Fitzpatrick and Donaldson (1977, ASME J. Fluids Eng., 99, pp. 681–686). The present study showed that test-section width may be a significant factor in determining the maximum acoustic pressures generated by the flow. In particular, the simple relationship between maximum acoustic pressure and input energy parameter derived by Blevins and Bressler was not a reliable predictor for the array studied and will likely underpredict the maximum acoustic pressures in the lower modes of practical heat exchangers.

SUMMARYHuman fingers possess mechanical characteristics, which enable them to manipulate objects. In robotics, the study of soft fingertip materials for manipulation has been going on for a while; however, almost all previous researches have been carried on hemispherical shapes whereas this study concentrates on the use of hemicylindrical shapes. These shapes were found to be more resistant to elastic deformations for the same materials. The purpose of this work is to generate a modified nonlinear contact-mechanics theory for modeling soft fingertips, which is proposed as a power-law equation. The contact area of a hemicylindrical soft fingertip is proportional to the normal force raised to the power of γcy, which ranges from 0 to 1/2. Subsuming the Timoshenko and Goodier (S. P. Timoshenko and J. N. Goodier, Theory of Elasticity, 3rd ed. (McGraw-Hill, New York, 1970) pp. 414–420) linear contact theory for cylinders confirms the proposed power equation. We applied a weighted least-squares curve fitting to analyze the experimental data for different types of silicone (RTV 23, RTV 1701, and RTV 240). Our experimental results supported the proposed theoretical prediction. Results for human fingers and hemispherical soft fingers were also compared.

Several challenges fill the distance learning program in the Philippines and the Public-Private Partnerships implementation process. The educational system in the Philippines, like any other developing country, is severely affected during these pandemic times. Although the public schools already employed the programs and resource mobilization, partnership effectiveness is not yet fully determined. As such, our qualitative study applied the concept lenses of SDG#17 and SDG#4 to describe the degree of integration of practices and principles during the implementation of PPPs in the distance learning program. Semi-structured interviews and content analysis were conducted among public school principals in Mandaluyong City in NCR, Philippines. The prevailing PPP practices and principles are Upfront commitment to maintenance, and predictability and transparency of whole-oflife costs, creation of specific obligations of both parties, the establishment of educational objectives in the MOA, evaluation of the work progress & completion based on the targets, and lastly, sharing results of the outcome of these educational endeavors. The commitment of the teachers is the main enabling factor, while the poor internet connectivity and effect and restrictions brought about by the COVID19 pandemic are the hindering factors in the distance learning program. This paper can serve as a source of reference in establishing a long-term sustainable plan for implementing partnership efforts in quality education across the regions in the Philippines. This chapter explores the history and architectural designs of buildings found in the Chicago Loop's Northwestern Quadrant. The Italianate-style Delaware Building stands as a noble survivor of a once much more extensive roster of Loop buildings constructed in the first few years after the Great Fire of 1871. The 1 N. LaSalle Street is another example of a building following the Grand Art Deco Formula. The chapter considers the architects at Clark Street Bridge Houses and 77 W. Wacker Drive. It also highlights the geologic features of the Hyatt Center, New York Life Building, First National Bank of Chicago and Inland Steel Building.

"from CD99 high expressors but membranes from CD99 low expressors required exposure of 5 minutes before the 32 kD band was apparent [50]. Unfortunately, these tests gave no information about the Xga protein because the position of the Xga band was masked by the antibody light chain which became labelled. However, a 32 kD band was seen in the Xga-immunoprecipitate from Xg(a+) but not from Xg(a-) cells [50]. It has not yet been proved that this is the CD99 protein because this band was not stained by immunoblotting Xga-immunoprecipitates with 12E7. The luciferin-enhanced luminescent proceedure to detect the avidin-biotin label is very much more sensitive than immunoblotting. Our results support the theory that Xga and CD99 may be associated in the membrane. Cloning of the XG gene will increase our understanding of this relationship. The important blood group genes have been cloned but two big problems remain, regulation on antigen expression and the function of blood group polymorphisms. Rare phenotypes should still be studied because they will contribute to unravelling the mechanisms responsible for the polymorphisms. The wealth of serological information which continues to increase includes many examples of variable expression of red cell antigens. Some antigens do not show the same variation on other cells suggesting that some modes of regulation may be limited to red cells. Association of blood group antigens with proteins of known function and identification of red cell antigens on cells other than red cells will contibute to understanding the functions of the blood group polymorphisms. The main objective of this essay was to contribute to the characterization of the genetic architecture of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) based on an analysis of a Brazilian series, which is still little studied. To achieve this goal, we verified the proportion of cases of ASD caused by de novo variants in neurodevelopment genes (genes from the SFARI bank and those associated with neurodevelopment described in the DECIPHER bank). Sixty-three trios were evaluated, composed of parents and probands diagnosed with ASD treated at the Human Genome and Stem Cell Studies Center (CEGH-CEL, USP). Genealogy, clinical data, gender, age at the consultation, and parental age were collected. Whole-exome sequencing was performed through a collaboration with Mount Sinai, New York, United States (collaboration with the Autism Sequencing ConsortiumACS). Identification of De novo variants in candidate genes for ASD was performed using the LOVD program (LOVD v.3.0 – Leiden Open Variation Database). It was observed that most of the probands were boys (n = 55, 86%), and the minority had a family history of ASD (n = 4, 6%). It was also found that 40% (n = 25) of individuals had a delay in language development, and a small percentage had comorbidities such as ADHD and epilepsy (n=6, 10% and n=2, 3%, respectively). The mean parental age at the time of pregnancy was close to 30 years for both parents (29.7 and 32.5 for the mother and father, respectively). Nine de novo pathogenic or potentially pathogenic variants were identified in candidate genes: for TEA: six in SFARI genes (four pathogenic variants in NF1, TLK2, DNAH17, BRSK2 genes, and two probably pathogenic variants in ARHGAP5 and HUWE1) and three in genes of neurodevelopment of DECIPHER (Deciphering Developmental Disorders Study, 2015) (two pathogenic variants in the ERLIN2, ST3GAL3 genes and one probably pathogenic in COL11A1). When performing the gene enrichment analysis of genes with pathogenic or potentially pathogenic variants, we observed the enrichment of genes for intracellular protein transport. The clinical picture of individuals with pathogenic or potentially pathogenic variants was expected, as previously described in the literature. This study suggests that de novo variants are also an essential mechanism for the etiology of ASD in Brazil, explaining the genetic architecture of 9.5% of cases.

Fragility curves are one of the main tools used to characterize the resistance to seismic hazard ofcivil engineering structures, such as nuclear facilities. These curves describe the probability thatthe response of a structure exceeds a given criterion, called failure criterion, as a function of theexpected seismic loading level. The numerical construction of these curves leads to many queriesto CPU intensive nonlinear computations. Indeed, a large number of loading scenarios must betreated, but also the uncertainties inherent to the structure must be taken into account through areliability study.The objective of this work is to implement a strategy based on model-order reduction for a calcu-lation generally enabling very important computational time savings. Among the diffeerent possible approaches, the Proper Generalized Decomposition (PGD) coupled with the LATIN method [1] is particularly well suited for solving parametrized problems in nonlinear mechanics in order to buildnumerical charts [2]. The LATIN-PGD method is an iterative approach that seeks the solution of a given problem by building in a greedy way a dedicated reduced-order basis. This basis can bereused and enriched to solve parametrized problems, allowing a very good numerical effciency. It has been applied to solve a wide range of problems in mechanics and more recently for earthquake-engineering applications [3] and provides a particularly good framework for the computation ofnumerical charts.In this contribution, a strategy will be proposed to evaluate the damage state of piping components,characteristic of the primary circuits of pressurized water reactors, subjected to seismic loading consecutive to a preliminary design thermal loading. The developed methodology, using a damageableelasto-plastic material, integrates the initial state of damage prior to the seismic event, which isone of the uncertain parameters of the problem.REFERENCES[1] P.
