Introduction. Advance in new nano-composite materials and adhesive systems has provided stronger bond with hard dental tissue as well as possibility for minimal cavity preparation. The aim of this study was to evaluate, using dye method, marginal seal of direct composite veneers placed on intact and abraded anterior teeth and polymerized with classical and soft start light curing technique. Material and Methods. The study was conducted on 40 extracted human anterior teeth. They were extracted for periodontal reasons and divided into two groups: intact teeth (20) and abraded teeth (20). 10 teeth in each group were polymerized with classical and soft start technique. Dye penetration was measured using stereo loupes with micrometer scale and six times magnification. Results. Linear dye penetration on the gingival wall when direct composite veneers were placed in intact teeth and polymerized with classical technique was 2.50 ?m, while on the incisal wall it was 0.5 ?m. Linear dye penetration on the gingival wall in intact teeth polymerized with soft start technique was 2.25 ?m, while on the incisal wall it was 2.0 ?m. Average dye penetration of direct composite veneers in abraded teeth polymerized with classical technique on the gingival wall was 3.0 ?m while on the incisal wall it was 1.25 ?m. Linear dye penetration in abraded teeth polymerized with soft start technique was greater on the gingival wall (3.50 ?m) than on the incisal wall (3.25 ?m). Conclusion. Smaller microcrack was observed on the incisal wall than on the gingival wall in all teeth regardless of the technique of polymerization used. The least dye penetration was observed in the group of intact teeth polymerized with classical technique of polymerization.

As part of the multi-disciplinary project, Antarctic Marine Ecosystem Research at the Ice Edge Zone (AMERIEZ), habitat selection by marine mammals was investigated within the marginal ice zone in relation to measured ice variables and other environmental factors. Data were collected on three cruises to the southern Scotia and northern Weddell seas during spring 1983, autumn 1986, and winter 1988. During winter, Antarctic fur seals were significantly associated with drift, pancake, brash ice, icebergs, and areas of uneven floe distribution, all characteristic of the marginal ice zone. Fur seals were seen in open water close to the ice edge during autumn, but during spring, as the pack ice began to retreat rapidly, animals were seen more often away from the ice. Minke whales were also associated with pancake and new ice but were seen further into the pack ice during both winter and autumn. The largest groups of minke whales during winter were observed with a large krill swarm in new ice. Crabeater seal was exclusively a species of the deep pack ice during all seasons and was associated with ice cover of 7–8 oktas and evenly distributed ice floes.

The microbial integrity of many types of flexible food packages depends on a zero defect level in the fused seam seal. Human inspection for defects in these seals is marginal at best, and secondary incubation protocols are often used to spot packages with compromised integrity before releasing product for sale. A new type of inspection method has been developed and is being evaluated for robustness. The purpose of the study was to evaluate a new raster scanning geometry to simulate continuous motion, online ultrasonic inspection of the seal region in flexible food package seals. A principal engineering tradeoff of scanning inspection systems is between increased line speed that results from decreased spatial sampling (less acquired data to process) and decreased image quality. The previously developed pulse-echo Backscattered Amplitude Integral (BAI) mode imaging technique is used to form ultrasound images using the new scanning geometry. At an ultrasonic frequency of 22.9 MHz, 38- and 50-μm-diameter air-filled channel defects in all-plastic transparent trilaminate are evaluated. The contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) of the processed BAI-mode image is used to quantify image quality as a function of spatial sampling. Results show seal defects (38- and 50-μm diameter) are still detectable for undersampled conditions, although image quality degrades as spatial sampling decreases. Further, it is concluded that the raster scanning geometry is feasible for online inspection.

Dental amalgam is still the material most commonly used to restore posterior teeth in many countries. Amalgam is very popular because of its strength, longevity, low cost, and relative ease of handling compared to other direct restorative materials. Two important disadvantages of amalgam restaurations are lack of adhesion to tooth structure and marginal leakage. Introduction of dentin adhesive systems enabled better marginal seal between amalgam and tooth structure. Aim: The aim of this study was to estimate, in vitro conditions, the marginal seal of amalgam restaurations with dentin adhesive systems using the method of diffusion dye. Material and methods: In this study 50 extracted human teeth were used. Class II cavities were prepared on all the teeth. The teeth were divided in five groups and materials applied according to manufacturer?s instructions: Gamabond, Optibond Solo, OptiGuard, Ionosit - Base Liner and control group. All the teeth were thermocycled 200 times, at temperatures: 5 - 7?C, 37?C and 57 - 59?C. Method of diffusion dye was used to estimate the quality of marginal seal of amalgam restaurations. All teeth were immersed into 50% solution of silver nitrate, and then into 10% developing solution. All teeth were cut with a diamond disc in the meso - distal plane. Penetration dye was estimated using binocular magnifying glass that magnifies 25 times, with inserted micrometar scale. Results were statistically analysed with Student t - test. Results: The least penetration dye was recorded in the group of amalgam restaurations rebonded with OptiGuard. Higher penetration dye was noted in the groups of adhesive amalgam restaurations, where Gamabond showed lower penetration dye in comparison with Optibond Solo. Penetration dye in the group Ionosit - Base Liner was higher than in the groups where dentin adhesive systems were used: on the occlusal wall, penetration dye in comparison with Gamabond showed statistically significant difference, (p < 0,5) while penetration dye in comparison with Optibond Solo showed no statistically significant difference. On the gingival wall, penetration dye in comparison with dentin adhesive systems - Gamabond and Optibond Solo, showed a statistically significant difference, (p < 0,01). The highest penetration dye was in the control group. Conclusion: The best marginal seal of amalgam restaurations was achieved with OptiGuard. Use of dentin adhesive systems also provided good marginal seal, with better results from Gamabond compared to Optibond Solo. Using Ionosit - Base Liner good marginal seal on the occlusal wall was also accomplished, while penetration dye on the gingival wall showed a statistically significant difference in comparison with adhesive and rebonding amalgam restaurations.

In this work, an experimental method for estimating the number of Caspian seals in the sea was tested. The goals were set to determine the distance of visual detection of the Caspian seal in the sea from a small vessel, and to improve the methodology of ship accounting of seals in the Caspian Sea. Ship accounting is used to account for the relative abundance, occurrence and distribution of marine mammals, and the data obtained can also be used as an indicator of accumulations of fish objects, and in general it can indicate the state of the environment. During the period of the vessel’s movement, the length (km) of each daily route is determined, the number of seal encounters on this segment, the distance from the seal to the ship’s line of movement is visually determined. The effective width of the accounting strip and the density (individuals/km2) in this section of the sea area are calculated. However, in practice, it is difficult to determine the distance to the observed seal when traveling on a small vessel. It is recommended to conduct a route ship registration of seals in shallow water on flat-bottomed boats-budaras. As a result of conducting an experiment in the shallow waters of the Caspian Sea on the visibility of objects imitating the trunk and head of a Caspian seal, it was found that the optimal perpendicular distance from the axis of the accounting route or the optimal width of accounting from one side is 300 m, similarly, the maximum width of accounting is 550 m. The use of the concepts of optimal and marginal accounting band serves as a method for determining the distance when accounting for seals in the sea and, in the future, for calculating the effective accounting band.

Introduction. The biggest drawback of composite materials is polymerization contraction and the existence of microcracks, therefore the market is now offering a wide variety of new composite materials. The aim of this study was to evaluate the marginal seal using dye method of class V cavities restored with self-etching flowable composite material Vertise Flow polymerized with different light-curing techniques. Material and Methods. The study was conducted on 60 extracted intact human teeth (30 premolars, 30 molars). Two cavities Class V (3?2?2 mm) were prepared in all teeth. Cavities on buccal surfaces were filled with self-etching flowable composite Vertise Flow (Kerr Dental Products), and on lingual with flowable composite Tetric Flow (Ivoclar Vivadent) using the corresponding adhesive systems. Polymerisation was performed using Bluephase Led flashlight C8 (Ivoclar Vivadent). Microleakage was tested using dye in a silver nitrate solution. Dye penetration was measured using stereo loupes with micrometer scale and six times magnification. Results. Linear dye penetration in intact molars restored using the classical polymerization technique and Vertise Flow composite was 3.41 ?m while with Tetric Flow it was 4.23 ?m. In intact molars restored using soft-start polymerization technique and Vertise Flow the dye penetration was 1.25 ?m while for Tetric Flow it was 4.23 ?m. Mean dye penetration in intact molars restored using pulse curing technique and material Vertise Flow was 1.02 ?m while for the composite Tetric Flow it was 4.35 ?m. In intact premolars restored using conventional curing technique and Vertise Flow dye penetration was 1.14 ?m while for Tetric Flow it was 3.90 ?m. Dye penetration in intact premolars restored using soft-start polymerization technique and Vertise Flow was 0.75 ?m while for Tetric Flow it was 3.15 ?m. Using a pulse polymerization technique and Vertise Flow in intact premolars dye penetration was 1.45 ?m while for Tetric Flow it was 3.76 ?m. Conclusion. Vertise Flow, self-etching flowable composite showed better marginal seal than flowable composite resin Tetric Flow. Smaller microcracks with Vertise Flow were confirmed after applying all three light-curing polymerization techniques.

The article describes the features of venous blood outflow from the heart in the Baikal seal. The objects for the study were corrosion preparations of 11 hearts of the Baikal seal aged from 1 month to 10 years. In our research we used the methods of preparation, filling of vessels with the use of "Kudo" mounting foam, photographing and sketching the branching of vessels. It was established that in the Baikal seal, the outflow of venous blood occurs through the prominent coronary sinus and the large, intermediate, oblique vein of the left atrium, the middle and right heart veins that flow into it. In 18.2% of hearts, a coronary valve was found at the border of the great heart vein and the coronary sinus. The great heart vein begins above the apices of the heart and is formed from the fusing of the 6-11 collateral veins of the wall of the right ventricle, the venous pericardial plexus, and 9-16 branches on the side of the left ventricle. The most variable is the intermediate (marginal) branch, which in most cases has only one branch, however, in 18.2% of cases there are two ones or in 9.1% of cases, there are intermediate branches with a common trunk. The middle vein of the heart is located in the sub-sinus sulcus and anastomoses with the branch of the great vein of the heart, in 9.1% of cases, the valve of the coronary sinus was found at the border with the coronary sinus. The right veins of the heart have 5-6 branches, among which the marginal ones are the most prominent. 27.3% of Baikal seals have a venous sinus formed from the fusion of the middle and right coronary veins, as well as a duct connecting the large cardiac vein with this sinus.

The development of composite materials is subject to the desire to overcome polymerization shrinkage and generated polymerization stress. An indicator characterizing the properties of restorative materials, with specific importance for preventing secondary caries, is the integrity and durability of marginal sealing. It is a reflection of the effects of polymerization shrinkage and generated stress. The present study aimed to evaluate and correlate marginal integrity and micropermeability in second-class cavities restored with three different types of composites, representing different strategies to reduce polymerization shrinkage and stress: nanocomposite, silorane, and bulk-fill composite after a ten-month ageing period. Thirty standardized class ΙΙ cavities were prepared on extracted human molars. Gingival margins were 1 mm apical to the cementoenamel junction. Cavities were randomly divided into three groups, based on the composites used: FiltekUltimate-nanocomposite; Filtek Silorane LS-silorane; SonicFill-bulk-fill composite. All specimens were subjected to thermal cycles after that, dipped in saline for 10-mounds. After ageing, samples were immersed in a 2% methylene blue. Thus prepared, they were covered directly with gold and analyzed on SEM for assessment of marginal seal. When the SEM analysis was completed, the teeth were included into epoxy blocks and cut longitudinally on three slices for each cavity. An assessment of microleakage on stereomicroscope followed. Results were statistically analyzed. For marginal seal evaluation: F.Ultimate and F.Silorane differ statistically with more excellent results than SonicFill for marginal adaptation to the gingival margin, located entirely in the dentin. For microleakage evaluation: F.Ultimate and F.Silorane differ statistically with less microleakage than SonicFill. Based on the results obtained: a strong correlation is found between excellent results for marginal adaptation to the marginal gingival ridge and micropermeability at the direction to the axial wall. We observe a more significant influence of time at the gingival margin of the cavities. There is a significant increase in the presence of marginal fissures (p = 0.001). A significant impact of time (p < 0.000) and of the material (p < 0.000) was found in the analysis of the microleakage.

ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the marginal sealing ability of a bulk fill flowable resin composite on both enamel and dentin substrates. Materials and Methods: 48 non-carious molars were selected and four Class-V cavities were prepared at the CEJ of each sample. Cavities were filled with Venus Diamond (Heraeus Kulzer); Venus Diamond Flow (Heraeus Kulzer) and Surefil SDR (Dentsply). Samples were divided into two groups: First group samples were immersed in a methylene blue solution for 30 min at 25°C. Second group samples were artificially aged and then treated with methylene blue. Samples were sectioned in the center of the restoration and observed with a 40x stereomicroscope, and the percentage of cavity infiltration was calculated. Results: Results were analyzed statistically by ANOVA (P < 0.05). The amount of infiltration was significantly lower for the enamel substrate compared with dentin (P = 0.0001) and in samples immediately immersed in methylene blue compared with those that were artificially aged (P = 0.011). The interaction between the composite material and the marginal substrate significantly affected dye penetration (P = 0.006). Conclusions: Bulk fill flowable resins provided significantly better marginal seal in dentin, both before and after artificial ageing. Nanohybrid resin composites and bulk fill flowable resins showed similar microleakage values at enamel margins. Bulk fills flowable resins provided significantly better marginal seal in dentin, both before and after artificial ageing. Nanohybrid resin composites and bulk fill flowable resins showed similar microleakage values at enamel margins.

This study compared the depth of penetration and marginal leakage of filled and unfilled sealants, with and without tooth preparation. One hundred and twenty extracted human third molar teeth that were free of restorations, fluorosis, caries, and sealants were used. After adequate storage and surface debridement, the teeth were randomly divided into four groups of 30 teeth each. In two groups, the occlusal surfaces were left intact, while in the other two groups, the occlusal surfaces were prepared using a diamond bur. Teeth in two groups were sealed with a filled sealant, and an unfilled sealant was used to seal teeth in the other two groups. The sealed teeth were then prepared for marginal leakage, immersed in 5% methylene blue (at 37°C)for 24 hours. Subsequently, buccolingual sections were made and each section was examined for sealant penetration and marginal leakage, using a stereomicroscope. The depth of dye penetration and marginal leakage was evaluated according to a method described by Ovrebo and Raadal. The unfilled sealant placed after tooth preparation showed better enamel fissure penetration and less marginal leakage than the filled sealant.

Many factors play a critical role in getting the best restoration, such as cavity design, operator skill, type of restorative material etc. However, the weakest link in any restoration is the tooth restoration interface. Every effort should be made to design and prepare these marginal peripheries to create the most favourable relationship with each other and for the longevity of the restoration. The restoration can survive in the biological environment of the oral cavity only if the margins are closely adapted to the cavosurface finish line of the preparation. One of the important aspects of cavity design is the cavosurface marginal seal/design. This review paper highlights the different cavosurface margins suitable for various restorations and their importance.

AbstractIn 2011, two discoveries were drilled by PA Resources in the Danish sector. The Broder Tuck 2/2A wells were drilled on a thrusted anticlinal structure, downdip of the apparently small U-1X gas discovery. The wells found an excellent quality gas reservoir within an interpreted Callovian lowstand incised valley containing braided fluvial and marginal-marine sandstones. A top and base seal are provided by mudstones of the over- and underlying transgressive systems tracts respectively. The development of a base seal is key to the presence of a potentially commercial resource downdip of a relatively unpromising old well. The Lille John 1/1B wells were then drilled on a salt diapir on which 1980s wells had encountered shallow oil shows. Lille John 1 found slightly biodegraded 34° API oil in Miocene sandstones at the uncommonly shallow depth of −910 m true vertical depth subsea (TVDSS). The reservoir is full to spill, whilst the trap developed intermittently through latest Miocene–Late Pleistocene times. It is interpreted that a deeper Chalk accumulation temporarily lost seal integrity owing to glacially induced stress or overpressure triggering top-seal failure or fault reactivation during and after latest Pleistocene diapir inflation. The wider hydrocarbon exploration implications of glaciation on stress, pore pressure and trap integrity appear to be underappreciated.

Iatrogenic perforation is a common complication in endodontic treatment or restoration procedure. Recent developments in dentistry have improved tooth perforation prognosis. MTA (Mineral Trioxide Aggregate) is one of the chosen materials to seal tooth perforation. This case report discuss the management of an iatrogenic furcal perforation using White Angelus MTA to seal the furcal perforation on tooth 26 and its final restoration. Furcal perforation accured while removing the calcification in the mesio buccal canal using Protapper Next rotary file after sealing the perforation site, further root canal preparation was carried on, and root canals were medicated by Calcium Hydroxide. After 2 weeks root canal were obturated with Gutta Percha. After one week observation post obturation patient had no complain, and radiographic evaluation show good sealing by MTA. In Conclusion Angelus MTA have good sealing ability marginal adaptation, and the absence of calcium sulfate had reduced the setting time of the material. It is a suitable material to seal iatrogenic furcal perforation due to its biocompatibility, antimicrobial, good sealing ability, and low solubility.

Sistemic fluoride ingestion has been found to be more effective in its caries- reducing benefits on the smooth surfaces than on the pit and fissures. A greater vulnerability to pit and fissure caries determines the need for occlusal surface specific protection. The objective of this study was to investigate clinical effectiveness of 5 different composite sealants during an 18- month observation period. Tested materials were: Superlux Seal-opak (composite with filler particles), Superlux Seal-transparent Estiseal and Fissurit (clear), and Fissurit F (composite with fluoride). They were evaluated according to modified Cvar&Ryge criteria for: retention (R), marginal adaptation (MA), marginal discoloration (MD), surface texture (ST), and secondary caries (SC). The materials were applied in 87 children 6-7 years of age, on 215 first permanent molars, two different materials for each patient. The results were tested for statistical significance by .2 and Fisher's T-test. The results showed good clinical performance of all tested materials with no statistically significant differences. High effectiveness in occlusal caries prevention rated from 97,30% for Fissurit F, and 98% for Superlux Sealopak, to 100% for all other tested sealants. Pit and fissure sealing is an effective prophylactic measure which should be part of the preventive program.

The aim of this laboratory study was to compare the interfacial adaptation of an epoxy-resin and a self-etch sealer in mesial root canals of mandibular molars filled using the System-B/Elements Obturation Unit. Sixty mesial root canals of mandibular molars were prepared using the K3 rotary system up to 35.04 instrument and then filled with the aid of the System-B/Elements Obturation Unit using either gutta-percha/ThermaSeal Plus (n=15) or Resilon/Real Seal SE (n=15). The single cone technique using both materials was used as control. The sealers were stained with Rhodamine B dye and the teeth were filled and sectioned at 2, 4 and 6 mm from the apex. The interfacial marginal adaptation of sealers was evaluated using confocal microscopy. Statistical analyses were performed by the Kruskall-Wallis test (α=0.05). In general, microscopic analysis showed a quite regular gap distribution pattern at sealer-dentin interfaces, mainly for the two groups filled with Real Seal SE. This means that both nonbonding root-filling groups (ThermaSeal Plus) showed significantly higher amount of gap-free regions regardless of the filling technique (p<0.05). Better marginal adaptation was obtained with gutta-percha and epoxy resin-based sealer using either the system B or the single cone technique.

SUMMARY Replacement of dental restorations has been the traditional treatment for restorations that are defective. In this five-year randomized clinical trial, restorations with localized marginal defects were treated with sealants. Thirty-two patients (mean age, 26.8 years) with 126 Class I and Class II restorations with defective margins (amalgam n=69 and resin-based composite n=57) were recruited. Treatment was seal with pit and fissure sealant on localized marginal defects (group A: n=43) and was compared with total restoration replacement (group B: n=40) and untreated restorations (group C: n=43) as negative and positive controls. Restorations were assessed by two examiners using the modified US Public Health Service criteria, observing five clinical parameters: marginal adaptation, roughness, marginal stain, teeth sensitivity, and secondary caries at baseline and at five years after treatment. At the five-year recall examination, 23 patients with 90 restorations (71.4% recall rate) were examined. A significant improvement was observed in the marginal adaptation of the restorations in group A compared with group B. None of the treated group showed trends to downgrade in any parameter. Tooth sensitivity and secondary caries showed a low frequency in all groups. No significant difference in marginal adaptation of the restorations was found between amalgam and resin-based composite restorations (p=0.191). This study demonstrated that marginal sealing of restorations is a minimally invasive treatment that may be used instead of the replacement of restorations with localized marginal defects.

Marginal leakage is the intrusion into the space between all the restorative materials and cavity walls of fluids, bacteria, and ions. It can cause irritation of the pulp, change of color in the tooth and secondary caries, and may also result in restoration failure. The freshly placed prosthetic margins invariably leak. As time goes by there is a rise in marginal leakage associated with the manufacture of corrosion products and the expansion of other materials into the space between the tooth and the prosthesis. Dental researchers have been interested in the efficacy of the restorative materials to seal cavity margins against the entry of salivary constituents for some time. Some studies have shown that normal dentin would allow the penetration of dyes into human teeth's tubules. An analysis of later micro-leakage studies reveals that the structure of the dentin is permeable to the diffusion of fluids by natural and acquired defects. Because the enamel surface contains natural cracks and that allow the fluid to penetrate, the enamel can also have areas of hypo calcification, , chemical breakdown, abrasion, and carious lesions that increase penetration. However, enables the transportation of fluids by processes. Cutting dentin with dental pressure increases the exposed surface area and thus increases the amount of tubules available for fluid transfer into the pulp chamber. While ionic charge and chemical reactivity of diffusing fluids lead to marginal leakage, the physical and chemical character of restorative materials, and the operator's clinical skills are equally essential.

AbstractComposite resins represent a class of material widely used in restorative dentistry, not only for anterior aesthetics but also as the first choice to restore posterior teeth. However the key limitation in the use of composite resins as a restorative material is related to shrinkage during polymerization which leads to poor marginal seal, marginal staining, restoration displacement, tooth fracture and recurring caries [1].Polymerization shrinkage may affect negatively the clinical outcome of the restoration. Hence the present study evaluates the Polymerization shrinkage of 2 different posterior composites; Filtek Z350(3M) and everX Posterior(GC), using a pycnometer.Independent Sample T-Test was used to determine statistically significant difference in volumetric shrinkage among the tested composite resins. everX Posterior showed comparatively less shrinkage than Filtek Z350; which can be attributed to the presence of silanated e-glass fibres.

The resin composite restoration of non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) still faces some drawbacks mostly related to the quality of the marginal seal. This study attempts to evaluate the adhesive capacities of two flowable and two conventional hybrid resin composite restorations of NCCLs having two types of cervical margins. Our null hypothesis assumes the same adhesive behavior of different materials. The relative composition of dental–restoration structures was also measured. Thus, restored wedge-shaped cervical cavities were realized on both the buccal and oral surfaces of extracted teeth. After immersion in dye solution, sectioning of the teeth was performed. We proposed an optical microscopy method to quantify the dye penetration along the restoration–tooth interface and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) to evaluate the quality of the peripheral seal. The data obtained revealed an amount of dentinal microleakage for all tested materials, despite the favorable results of the restoration peripheral seal. Therefore, data from this study failed to reject the null hypothesis. The adhesion is not influenced by the position of cervical margins. The SEM revealed occasional disruptions of the adhesive interface. EDX sustains the qualitative compositions as provided by the manufacturers. Conclusions: The four experimental composites are recommended to restore NCCLs in clinic.

Reproductive tracts were collected on the eastern coast of Canada from adult female grey seals (Halichoerus grypus) during gestation and postparturition, and from adult female harp seals (Phoca groenlandica) during delayed implantation and postparturition. Reproductive tracts were fixed in 10% buffered formalin for light microscopy. The placental site and adjacent tissue were preserved in 2% glutaraldehyde – 1% paraformaldehyde for scanning electron microscopy. During the delay of blastocyst implantation, the endometria of the gravid and nongravid uterine horns were similar in microscopic appearance. During gestation, maternal septa were often surrounded by maternal epithelium deep into the placental labyrinth except distally, where the maternal cells were replaced by syncytium. Marginal hematomas increased in size and complexity throughout placentation. Following parturition, uterine regression occurred earlier in harp seals (10 days postpartum) than in grey seals (21–25 days postpartum). Postpartum changes were most pronounced in the placental site where the blood vessels underwent extensive reorganization. In some specimens, the extensively vascularized placental site of the previous pregnancy was still apparent 12 months later. Epithelial replacement in the uterus was complete in grey seals 21–25 days postpartum and sooner in harp seals. Cervical and vaginal stratification occurred in both phocids following parturition and increased towards estrus. A recently ovulated grey seal was obtained between 21 and 25 days postpartum. The vaginal stratification and the presence of sperm in their uterine horns indicated that grey seals began estrus about 12–17 days postpartum. In harp seals, estrus appeared to occur towards the end of the lactational period, about 10–12 days postpartum.

Indications for vital pulp therapy include: crown reduction for orthodontic abnormalities; canine tooth disarming; crown fractures of immature permanent teeth; pulp exposure during debridement of deep carious lesions; and, recent crown fractures of mature permanent teeth. Vital pulp therapy for these conditions or procedures includes direct pulp capping after partial coronal pulpectomy is performed to excise inflamed pulp, if present, and provide space for the restoration. Appropriate tissue handling and a meticulous restoration providing a bacteria-tight marginal seal are critical components of vital pulp therapy1, which is described step-by-step.

Root canal treatment aims to maintain the condition of the teeth in order to keep them functioning. In practice, the treatment procedure does not always run smoothly, the operator can face undesirable conditions that can affect the prognosis of treatment. A common procedural error during root canal treatment is a lateral root perforation which must be treated immediately to avoid further damage. The success of the perforation treatment is determined by the materials used. One of the bicompatible materials to seal lateral perforations using MTA (mineral trioxide aggregate). Successful root canal treatment affects treatment outcomes, so proper restoration is required to reduce the risk of marginal leakage. The choice of final restoration in post-root canal treatment depends on the amount of remaining tooth structure, horizontal pressure and chewing load. For post-root canal treatment anterior teeth with intact marginal edges, direct restoration can be performed using composite resin

The objective of the present study provides further data comparing retention, marginal integrity and caries preventive effects of two fissure sealants (glass ionomer based; GC Fuji VII Capsule [Fuji VII] and ormocer based; Admira Seal [AS]) in children. This study was designed as a randomized single-blind clinical trial. The permanent first molars (PFMs) of 50 children, 7-13 years of age (mean age: 8.9<1.3 years), were sealed with a split-mouth design. Fissure sealants applied to the PFMs according to the manufacturer's recommendations by one pediatric dentist. Clinical evaluation of the sealants was carried out to record retention, marginal integrity and presence of caries at 6, 12, 18 and 24 months after placement by the other pediatric dentist. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox's regression models were used to estimate the probability of two sealants success. Results: Alpha and Bravo retention rates at the end of follow-up were 13% and 80% for Fuji VII and 3% and 83% for AS, respectively. For retention and marginal integrity between fissure sealants was found similar survival rates (p>0.05). After 24 months, presence of caries was 16% for Fuji VII and 32% for AS (p<0.05). Conclusion: Fuji VII and AS exhibited similar retention and marginal integrity during 24 months. However, Fuji VII was showed better results than AS for caries preventive effect. Consequently, Fuji VII sealants may be a better choice for preventing occlusal caries.

Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical success of three fissure sealants(FSs) with different contents on primary teeth. Study design: Three FSs were used to seal 150 primary molars in 75 children aged 4–7 years. All FSs were placed on occlusal surfaces in a split-mouth and randomized clinical trial. For patients in Group1,amorphous calcium phosphate(ACP) containing resin-based sealant(RBS)(Aegis) was applied to a primary molar tooth on one side ,and non-fluoride RBS(Helioseal) FS was applied to symmetrical molar tooth. For patients in Group2, fluoride-containing RBS(Helioseal F) was applied to a primary molar tooth on one side, and Helioseal FS was applied to symmetrical molar tooth. For patients in Group3,Helioseal FS was applied to a primary molar tooth on one side, and Aegis FS was applied to symmetrical molar tooth. Clinical evaluation of FSs was carried out to assess retention, marginal discoloration, marginal adaptation, and the presence of caries in months 1,3,6,12,18 and 24 after FS application. Results: There were no significant differences for all criteria in groups 2 and 3(p≯0.05). In group 1,cumulative success rates according to 24 months’ follow-up were statistically insignificant during the comparisons performed in terms of retention, marginal adaptation, and presence of caries(p≯0.05). Marginal discoloration was found to be statistically significant(p<0.05). Conclusion: RBS containing ACP or fluoride may be more effective than conventional RBS for caries prevention.
