This paper describes a round-trip engineering approach for incrementally maintaining mappings between conceptual models and relational schemas. When either schema or conceptual model evolves to accommodate new information needs, the existing mapping must be maintained accordingly to continuously provide valid services. In this paper, the authors examine the mappings specifying “consistent” relationships between models. First, they define the consistency of a conceptual-relational mapping through “semantically compatible” instances. Next, the authors analyze the knowledge encoded in the standard database design process and develop round-trip algorithms for incrementally maintaining the consistency of conceptual-relational mappings under evolution. Finally, they conduct a set of comprehensive experiments. The results show that the proposed solution is efficient and provides significant benefits in comparison to the mapping reconstructing approach.

This study evaluated the hypothesis that an increase in set-level stimulus-response compatibility produces facilitation for congruent mappings and interference for incongruent mappings. The degree of set-level compatibility was manipulated by varying combinations of conceptual, perceptual, and structural similarity. Experiment 1 varied perceptual similarity, by combining two stimulus codes (spatial, verbal) with two response modalities (manual, vocal) for orthogonal spatial dimensions, which have structural similarity. The element-level mapping effect did not vary as a function of the code-modality relation, in contrast to findings obtained with parallel spatial dimensions, which also have conceptual similarity. Experiment 2 manipulated combinations of conceptual and perceptual similarity by combining vertical and horizontal stimulus and response orientations, using verbal or spatial stimuli and vocal responses. The element-level mapping effect was larger for parallel than orthogonal orientations, with congruent mappings showing facilitation and incongruent mappings showing interference. The largest effect was facilitation for parallel orientations with the verbal-vocal set, consistent with the view that perceptual similarity contributes to performance primarily when responding with the identity of the stimulus. Our results indicate that conceptual similarity, but not perceptual similarity, produces the facilitation/interference pattern suggestive of automatic activation of the corresponding response regardless of mapping.

The notion of “conceptual mapping”, as a set of correspondences between conceptual domains, was popularized in Cognitive Semantics, following seminal work by Lakoff & Johnson (1980), as a way of accounting for the basic cognitive activity underlying metaphor and metonymy. Strangely enough, Cognitive Semantics has paid little, if any, attention to other cases of so-called figurative language such as hyperbole, irony, paradox, and oxymoron. This paper contends that it is possible to account for these and other figures of thought in terms of the notion of conceptual mapping. It argues that the differences between these and other figurative uses of language are a matter of the nature of the domains involved in mappings and how they are made to correspond. Additionally, this paper examines constraints on mappings and concludes that the same factors that constrain metaphor and metonymy are operational in the case of mappings for the other figures of thought under discussion.

Metaphor is not only a linguistic phenomenon but also reflects the concept projection between source and target domains in human cognition. Previous sequence tagging-based metaphor identification methods could not model the concept projection, resulting in a limitation that the outputs of these models are unexplainable in the predictions of the metaphoricity labels. In this work, we propose the first explainable metaphor identification model, inspired by Conceptual Metaphor Theory. The model is based on statistic learning, a lexical resource, and a novel reward mechanism. Our model can identify the metaphoricity on the word-pair level, and explain the predicted metaphoricity labels via learned concept mappings. The use of the reward mechanism allows the model to learn the optimal concept mappings without knowing their true labels. Our method is also applicable for the concepts that are out of training domains by using the lexical resource. The automatically generated concept mappings demonstrate the implicit human thoughts in metaphoric expressions. Our experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed model in metaphor identification, and concept mapping tasks, respectively.

The objective of this documentary review was to analyze the notion of educational digital inclusión and establish the boundaries of the concept in relation to other terms. The conceptual mapping method was chosen (Tobón, 2004), wich consists of four phases: 1) search for documents relevant to the research problem, 2) definition of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 3) data analysis based on eight axes, and 4) interpretation of the results. A total of 40 documents were reviewed from the databases Dialnet and SciELO, as well as from the Fundación Ceibal repository. The results obtained make it possible to establish that it is often difficult to relate the term with educational inclusion (higher category) given that the latter is oriented towards equalize the conditions. In this sense, the link between both concepts has permeated a vision focused on the implementation of actions and strategies that, for the most part, do not consider the particularities of the institutions to which they are directed. Likewise, its association with the term innovation has weighed on the figure of the teacher, since it is assumed that the insertion of technological artifacts is enough to achieve innovative uses, without considering that the inclusion of these tools must be accompanied by the corresponding literacy processes.

Linguistic and psycholinguistic evidence is presented to support the use of structure-mapping theory as a framework for understanding effects of iconicity on sign language grammar and processing. The existence of structured mappings between phonological form and semantic mental representations has been shown to explain the nature of metaphor and pronominal anaphora in sign languages. With respect to processing, it is argued that psycholinguistic effects of iconicity may only be observed when the task specifically taps into such structured mappings. In addition, language acquisition effects may only be observed when the relevant cognitive abilities are in place (e.g. the ability to make structural comparisons) and when the relevant conceptual knowledge has been acquired (i.e. information key to processing the iconic mapping). Finally, it is suggested that iconicity is better understood as a structured mapping between two mental representations than as a link between linguistic form and human experience.

Conceptual metaphor theory explains conceptual systems through cross-domain mappings. The mapping occurs on a conceptual level in a way that one conceptual domain is understood in terms of another conceptual domain. It also shows how target domain is perceived or understood through numerous source domains. Daily life experiences of people create patterns of understanding and conceptual metaphors are used to utilise these patterns in our utterances about issues in the world. In this research paper, Lakoff and Johnson’s (1980) conceptual metaphor theory and Grice’s (1975) implicature theory are used as theoretical frameworks to identify, study and interpret conceptual metaphors for marriage in the Hazaragi community in Balochistan, Pakistan. This study focusses on the institution of marriage as this institution carries rich conceptual domains and has many conceptual mappings. Data collected from the book on Hazaragi idioms and two Hazaragi dramas were used to identify and analyse five general categories which include marriage as a food, marriage as an expensive commodity, marriage as a friendship, marriage as a slavery, and marriage as a journey or time. The paper also explores implied conceptual metaphors for marriage which do not indicate the concept of marriage directly. In short, this study discusses how conceptual metaphors in the institution of marriage depict Hazaragi culture and tradition.

The article deals with the interaction between the conceptual spaces of language and culture within the framework of the language – culture – cognition triad. We argue that this interaction is based on a dynamic network of conceptual mappings. We prove that language and culture are connected by conceptual mappings within several dimensions: semiotic, communicative and cognitive. The main emphasis is on the analysis of the conceptual interactions between the mental spaces of two cultures and languages at several levels: at the macro level (the level of conceptual worldviews of two national cultures), at the meso level (the level of individual concepts) and at the micro level (the level of individual conceptual features that form the concept). We focus on the analysis of the micro level and prove the importance of conceptual features that have the highest degree of centrality, stability and high inferential potential in the process of conceptual mapping. Our study also proves that the inferential potentials of conceptual features do not coincide in two cultures and languages. This is reflected in the translation process. When translating features with a low inferential potential, the translator needs more cognitive efforts, since this process requires compensatory translation solutions to create the translation text. The maximum cognitive load on the translator should result in the minimization of the cognitive load on the recipient.

Ontology Based Data Access (OBDA) is a recently proposed approach which is able to provide a conceptual view on relational data sources. It addresses the problem of the direct access to big data through providing end-users with an ontology that goes between users and sources in which the ontology is connected to the data via mappings. We introduced the languages used to represent the ontologies and the mapping assertions technique that derived the query answering from sources. Query answering is divided into two steps: (i) Ontology rewriting, in which the query is rewritten with respect to the ontology into new query; (ii) mapping rewriting the query that obtained from previous step reformulating it over the data sources using mapping assertions. In this survey, we aim to study the earlier works done by other researchers in the fields of ontology, mapping and query answering over data sources.

This study aims at describing conceptual metaphor in Gola Gong’s novel “Bila Waktu Bicara” in the perspective of George Lakoff’s theories of metaphor. This research is a (qualitative) bibliographical research. The object of the study is the use of metaphor in Gola Gong’s novel “Bila Waktu Bicara” and there are 59 metaphorical expressions. Having analyzed the data, the researcher concludes that there are seven most outstanding conceptual mapping on that novel: time is an individual, the world is the hell or paradise, people is a stream of water, seeing is touching, eye ball is a container, body part is a landscape, ambulance is an individual. Among this seven conceptual mappings, the conceptual pattern of time is an individual is the most frequent use and it shows that there has been an increase of creativity in the creation of socio-religious metaphor of Indonesian young novelist such as Gola Gong. Transformation in patterns of human interaction has shifted significantly in the use of the Internet, as these trends are rapidly evolving with the advent of online means for social interaction, such as social media, social networking, messaging, and so on. The transformation happens to give us challenges and opportunities to improve the quality of knowledge management undertaken by an organization. The most critical problem that in knowledge management issue is how to identify the state, ownership, and connectedness of critical knowledge in an organization visually. The studies to overcome these problems already done with a knowledge map approach, but in practice to do knowledge mapping is still done partially, either by the manual or automatic approach. Accordingly, this study aims to identify the critical components in building integrated knowledge maps from various electronic information sources that developed in the current Internet era. Through a literary study in an article that examines the map model of knowledge and by analysing smart terminology in several contexts from several kinds of literature. This study proposes a model of smart knowledge mapping conceptual model to be an initial model in developing a knowledge map that integrates various critical components.

Abstract. Conceptual metaphors are the result of mental construction, conceptualization of the experience of human life. In Japanese, metaphorical features are often found in conveying information so that information can be easily understood. This study aimed to describe the conceptual metaphors found at the Japanese Prime Minister's Press Conference, Shinzo Abe on March 14 and 28, 2020 through the official website kantei.go.jp. The research method used was descriptive qualitative analysis. Data were collected by taking text that contained metaphorical elements and then selected. Data selection was based on the basic principle of metaphor, which was the mapping from the source domain to the target domain. Then the data were classified based on the type of metaphor by Lakoff and Johnson and the type of image scheme by Cruse and Croft. Based on the study done, there were three types of conceptual metaphors, 1) Structural metaphors with conceptuals meaning of enemy, medical treatment, control, and mind; 2) Orientational metaphors with conceptual meaning of disadvantage, and approval; 3) Ontological metaphors with conceptuals meaning of finance, and emotion. In addition, there were also six types of image schemes, namely the image scheme of Strength, Existence, Identity, Scale, Space, and Unity. Keywords: Conceptual Meaning, Press Conference, Cognitive Semantic, Image Scheme

Conceptual mapping tools have been used more and more for various educational purposes in recent years by academicians and educators. In addition, developments of technology that include conceptual mapping have a significant influence on education sustainability. Nevertheless, students’ understanding and motivation in using conceptual mapping in the context of education sustainability has rarely been assessed. Thus, this study could be useful for developing and testing theories related to using conceptual mapping, as well as for practitioners who use conceptual mapping in education sustainability. Besides being used as a method of assessment, these mapping tools are used to improve the students’ critical and analytical thinking skills and to facilitate the demonstration of relationships among concepts. Instead of using written or verbal descriptions, these tools utilise various diagrammatic relationships. The use of pictures, diagrams and visual illustrations are believed to facilitate the understanding of complex topics more readily. Therefore, this research aims to develop a new model that employs conceptual mapping for improving the motivation and achievements of students. A survey was distributed to 247 participants who are using conceptual mapping tools for learning, and the data were quantitatively analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM-Amos). The results of this study show that conceptual mapping can be used to increase students’ understanding and motivation to improve their academic achievements.

By taking into account those operations of modernity initiated by Stendhal and Cézanne, Manet and Proust, which were continued by Merleau-Ponty and Lévi-Strauss, this paper considers Claude Imbert's writings from the perspective of the formative role that literature and painting had and still have in mapping a new rationality. The aim is to show how the philosopher reintegrates such priceless experiences, captured by peculiar literary forms, syntagms, and juxtaposition of genres or pictorial manners, into a conceptual and stylistic invention affecting the very core of philosophical activity.

Background/Objectives: The mapping RDB to RDF has become important to populate Linked Data more efficiently. This paper shows how to implement SPARQL endpoint in RDB using a conceptual level mapping approach.Methods/Statistical analysis: Many diverse approaches and related languages for mapping RDB to RDF have been proposed. The prominent achievements of mapping RDB to RDF are two standard draft Direct Mapping and R2RML proposed by W3C RDB2RDF Working Group. This paper analyzes these conventional mapping approaches and proposes a new approach based on schema mapping. The paper also presents SPARQL query processing in RDB.Findings: There are distinct differences between instance level mapping and conceptual level mapping for RDB2RDF. Data redundancy of instance level mapping causes many inevitable problems during mapping procedure. The conceptual level mapping can provide straightforward and efficient way. The ER model in RDB and RDF model in Linked Data have obvious similarity. The ER model describes entities and relationships, which is the conceptual schema of RDB. RDF model consists of three parts: subject, predicate and object, which is the standard model for data interchange on the Web. The entities in ER model and subjects in RDF model are all the things that can be anything in the real world. Both the relationships in ER model and predicates in RDF model describe the relations between things.Since RDB and RDF share the similar modeling approach at the schema level, it is reasonable that mapping approach should be based on RDB schema. This kind of conceptual level mapping also can provide efficient SPARQL query processing in RDB.Improvements/Applications: The paper realizes SPARQL query processing in RDB, which is based on conceptual level mapping. The query experiments show that it is a concise and efficient way to populate Linked Data.

- Sperber and Wilson (2006) have recently claimed that metaphors are not a genuine cognitive phenomenon. There is a continuum, they claim, ranging from literal to figurative uses of language, and the interpretation of any sentence along that continuum can, and must, be performed by the same relevance-guided inferential procedure; therefore, metaphor interpretation would not require any special cognitive process. Following a suggestion of Gibbs and Tendahl (2006), we propose a framework according to which the relevance-theoretic account has to be integrated with the conceptual theory of metaphors. In particular, we will suggest that the relevance-guided inferential procedure has to be sensitive not only to the balance between cognitive efforts and effects, but also to the nature of the conceptual relations between context and verbal meanings; in the case of metaphor comprehension, this amounts to saying that sensitivity to conceptual mappings is part of how the procedure works, at least for fresh metaphors. As a consequence, there is a clear sense in which metaphor is, after all, a specific cognitive phenomenon. Abstract In this framing paper for the special issue, we map significant research on global production networks during the past decade in economic geography and adjacent fields. In line with the core aim of the special issue to push for new conceptual advances, the paper focuses on the central elements of GPN theory to showcase recent rethinking related to the delimiting of global production networks, underlying political-economic drivers, actor-specific strategies and regional/national development outcomes. We suggest that the analytical purchase of this recent work is greater in research that has continued to keep a tight focus on the causal links between the organizational configurations of global production networks and uneven development. Concomitantly, considerable effort in the literature has gone into expanding the remit of GPN research in different directions, and we thus engage with five domains or ‘constituent outsides’ that relate to the state, finance, labour, environment and development. We believe such cross-domain fertilisation can help realize GPN 2.0’s potential for explaining uneven development in an interconnected world economy.

AbstractOur work is focused on the conceptual description of verbs by employing two main resources – the lexical semantic network WordNet and the conceptual frames from FrameNet. We implement a method for inheritance-based mapping between the two resources by transferring the frame assignments from a hypernym to its hyponyms. We discover that the method performs best for directly related pairs of synsets but deteriorates in assignment at two or more steps. The mapping is then used for enhancing each of the resources by expanding it with new entries and by contributing to the resources’ relational structure.

This paper, using Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) as theoretical framework attempts to identify, analyze and interpret Metaphors for life in Pashto language. It argues that since life is a very rich conceptual domain, therefore it has more than one conceptual mapping. It identifies eight conceptual metaphors for Life in Pashto speech community, and demonstrates through mapping and entailment that how the target domain life is understood through several source domains in the Pashto language and culture. In this paper, we combine analytical tools of conceptual metaphor theory with the affordances of corpus-based linguistics and quantitative analysis to investigate the translation of synesthetic metaphors found in Donna Tartt’s novels into Ukrainian. A synesthetic metaphor is addressed as a linguistic expression representing a sensation of one modality in terms of another. We claim that the choice of a translation procedure – retention, removal, omission, modification, or addition is partly determined by linguacultural similarity (i.e. isomorphism) or specificity (i.e. anisomorphism) of cross-sensory mappings that underlie the source-text and targettext linguistic expressions and partly – by the translator’s free choice, which cannot be explained by objective reasons. The obtained results show the following trends. Original metaphors as well as conventional metaphors based on isomorphic crosssensory mappings are mostly retained. Conventional metaphors that rest on anisomorphic mappings are mostly modified or removed/omitted. However, the translator can choose to remove/modify a synesthetic metaphor that rests on an isomorphic mapping. Added synesthetic metaphors usually root in isomorphic mappings. The applied methodology minimizes subjectivity of judgment in differentiating between the compulsory (i.e. imposed by the linguacultural specificity) and free strategic choices, which contributes to the potential impact of this research.

The schemes generating process of conceptual design is the most crucial part of the process of conceptual design, it is better for understanding the designer's intent process, transferring and accumulating design knowledge with this process, in order to analyze the schemes generating process of conceptual design effectively, this paper takes conceptual design for crane hoisting mechanism for an example, which describes the schemes generating process by using zigzag mapping method and proposes the principle of conceptual design based on directed graph model ,with using metamodeling technology, directed graph model can be applied to prototype system developed by GME, this prototype system provides a simple tools for the process of conceptual design and records the schemes generating process and relevant design knowledge. The zigzag mapping method and GME tools is used in the process of conceptual design for crane hoisting mechanism in this paper, which verifies effectiveness of the zigzag mapping method and GME tools, and has a certain practical value.

Unlike concrete words related to sensory perception (e.g., hear, sun), abstract words (including the words with temporal semantics, e.g., year, tomorrow) do not have direct embodied sensory correlates. Nevertheless, existing research indicates that abstract concepts’ representations make regular reference to sensorimotor processes, e.g., visual perception. For example, regular expressions such as “the future is ahead” or “the flow of time” are common in different languages reflecting a relatively universal nature of space-time correspondences. Moreover, these regular correspondences are commonly demonstrated in experimental studies; for example — by registering attentional displacement during processing of past and future related words. Here, the main theoretical approaches as well as existing experimental data documenting neurocognitive foundations of space-time representations are reviewed. A detailed overview of research on spatial-conceptual mapping of time concepts in three-dimensional visual space is offered. We also consider features of space-time associations that reflect linguistic and socio-cultural differences. In conclusion, the main areas of current and future that will allow an integration of the existing data within a common theoretical framework are defined.

To define the concept of "information map", an overview of the main stages in the development of cartography as a tool used for orientation in the surrounding space, cognition and planning of various processes associated with spatial data is carried out. Taking into account this review, an information map is defined as a digital object representing in space the studied set of objects, subjects and processes of multidimensional cyberspace based on the principles: measurability of the similarity of objects; proximity of object images, context images, reproducibility of map building operations. Various examples of the use of the information card in biology, medicine, chemistry, sociology, intellectual cooperation and historical science are given. Thus, the expediency of information mapping of the protected cyberspace is substantiated.

Based on decomposition and reconstruction principle, by analyzing the limit essence of rigid body in generalized coordinate system, the paper proposes growth conceptual design model from function to structure. It applies the mechanism of biological growth into conceptual design of products, realizes the stable mapping from function to structure, and also solves the issues of multi-solutions, uncertainty, etc, existing in the mapping process from function to structure of mechanical products in conceptual design stage. Establish the product knowledge model supporting product conceptual design, use the Case-Based reasoning (CBR) technology into entities match and verify it by case, which provides a new idea for the conceptual design of computer aided product.

This paper explores how metaphorical and metonymic mappings are recognised as part of proverbs’ meanings in Brazilian Portuguese. Six proverbs were analysed from the perspective of Conceptual Metaphor Theory. The underlying conceptual mappings of these proverbs were suggested and categorised into primary metaphorical, complex metaphorical, and metonymic. Two psycholinguistic tasks were conducted with 112 adults aiming at determining to what extent these mappings were identified as part of the proverbs’ meanings. Results suggest that underlying conceptual mappings were well identified and associated with the proverbs’ meanings. For some items, complex mappings generated lower identification rates as compared to primary and metonymic ones. Statistical differences in participants’ judgments were found when contrasting the three types of mappings. Our results support the idea that participants can identify conceptual mappings and associate them with their meanings in proverbs when prompted to do so. However, their judgments vary across different types of mappings.

This paper will develop a cognitive stylistic framework drawn from Conceptual Integration (Blending) Theory ( Fauconnier and Turner 2002 ), and Text World Theory, which uses the idea of elaboration sites as potential structural enablers in mapping across blend spaces. The framework will be used to investigate the operation of allegory and metaphor in Emma Purhouse’s poem ‘Flamingos in Dudley Zoo’. Previous work on blending and allegory is taken as a departure point for the exploration of the relationship between text-worlds and blends in allegory in order to investigate how a hybrid approach may produce a richer understanding of how the poem achieves its effects. The paper will examine the conceptual blends created by metaphors suggested by the allegory in terms of their input (source and target) spaces, and examine how these may create and enrich metaphoric text-worlds in the poem. The paper develops a text-world mechanism, the peri-text-world, that allows the source, target and blended worlds to be integrated into one complex that can allow the necessary mappings to proceed from the source world-system of the allegory, through the allegorical blend, to structure a target world. It will also consider how this mapping process creates the potential for a number of candidate targets and how that uncertainty helps the poem make its point.

The growing interest in the construction and development of socio-emotional competences (SEC) in education has motivated the emergence of mappings and models, especially in recent years with the pandemic. Despite this, the existing terms related to the socio-emotional competences of students are still limited, in view of that, this article presents a systematic review of the literature on the definitions of the concept of socio-emotional competences with a focus on the student profile. For this, 18 articles were selected between 2017 and 2022 from 556 scientific publications identified. The results provide conclusions on the concept of SEC presenting a historical and conceptual overview from the most recent research, as well as a mapping of 87 SEC.

Language aids in the conceptual mapping between time and space. Furthermore, an individual holds both the real and the imaginary world in their memory and tries to make sense of it through the help of language. Language plays a significant role in mapping the abstract concepts rooted in the real world and stored in the human mind. The current study was aimed at tracing input and blended spaces in the selected text. It also analyzed the conceptual mapping between time and space through language and examined its significance in the selected character, named Aaron Stampler, in a novel titled ‘Primal Fear’. The study adds to the existing knowledge in the field of cognitive linguistics by tracing the connection between past and present mental spaces inside the human memory. It also highlights the mechanisms of then (past) and now (present) in mapping mental spaces through language. The current study is based on a conceptual framework designed by blending two theories: Conceptual Integration Theory and Here and Now Space. The analysis of the selected text revealed that conceptual mapping between then and now spaces connects the memories of the past with the present. An individual collects data from their surrounding and stores it in the form of language, to be used when required. The study concluded that mental concepts are mapped between time and space through the relatedness of their subject matter, which is traced with the help of language. The findings of this research may aid in investigating the language used in interrogating criminals, cross-questioning them, as well as dissecting their psychiatric sessions. Keywords: conceptual mapping, here and now space, input space, mental spaces

Encountered at all levels of language, conceptual asymmetries between source and target languages present translators with fundamental challenges that require problem awareness, problem identification and problem solving. A case in point is conceptual metaphor in translation. Versions of conceptual metaphor theory have been applied in various productoriented studies of how translators deal with the challenge of metaphor in translation. However, there is potential in combining product-oriented approaches with techniques used to access translators’ cognitive processes, although process-oriented studies on how conceptual metaphor is re-conceptualised or re-mapped in translation are still rare. Building on an exploratory study carried out at our institute, in which findings from translation process data suggest that experience and/or training appears to be a main factor in handling conceptual metaphor, we present some salient features of re-mapping metaphor. Triangulating data from target-text products, keystroke logs and retrospective verbal commentaries collected under very similar conditions in a laboratory setting, we analyse how translators at different levels of experience handle two complex conceptual metaphors. The results appear to suggest that complex metaphor might indeed be culturespecific. They also potentially indicate that re-mapping practices are a function of experience and that re-mapping to a source-language target domain could create more uncertainty than generic-level re-mapping. Both findings hold pedagogical implications, which are discussed together with some methodological issues.

Motion is understood as a change from one location to another. Therefore, this study focuses on spatial motion consisting of directional, extensional, state and causative motion. This study utilizes data from the Pangkalan Data Korpus Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka database in Malaysia for its study samples. The analysis employs Jackendoff’s (1997 & 2011) Theory of Conceptual Structure for its framework. The mapping of these arguments comprises three main stages, namely mapping to conceptual structure representation, mapping to conceptual tree diagrams and mapping to thematic roles. The results show that spatial motion is present in the [Event] and [States] functions that carry the basic formula [[[MOTION [x [Event] [Object] [Path] [Place]]]. The findings show that the lexical items balik, berlari, tinggal, terletak, berada, bunuh, paksa, benar and tolong have their own representation of arguments involving constituents such as [Event], [States], [Object] [Path] [Place] [Event] REASON], [NO Causative], [TRUE Causative] and [HELP Causative]. For the mapping stage in the thematic role, the item involved is the role of Actor, Theme, Goal, Source, Agent and Beneficiary (-). Accordingly, this study shows an adequate systematic representation of the conceptual structure, particularly in the spatial motion domain in the Malay language.

AbstractCarey proposes that the acquisition of the natural numbers relies on the interaction between language and analogical processes: specifically, on an analogical mapping from ordinal linguistic structure to ordinal conceptual structure. We suggest that this analogy in fact requires several steps. Further, we propose that additional analogical processes enter into the acquisition of number.
