Educational research has demonstrated that the use of concrete objects or manipulatives in the classroom enhances problem-solving skills and conceptual learning. This project examines the use of manipulatives in a neurophysiology curriculum and assesses their effectiveness on student comprehension. Three activities, building an ion channel, building a nerve cell, and passive membrane properties, were developed using modeling clay and beads as manipulatives. Their effect on learning was assessed in a neurobiology class that had been divided into an experimental group that worked with manipulative-based activities and a control group that did not. After the experimental group had completed the manipulative activity, both groups were given a quiz. Students who had used manipulatives scored significantly better than those who had not. In a second study, students were given a quiz before and after completing a manipulative activity. Students who had used manipulatives showed the greatest grade improvement. These studies suggest that manipulative activities can be used to enhance learning in the neurophysiology curriculum.

The purpose of the study is to determine the signs and consequences of the manipulative behavior of teachers. The article substantiates the relevance of setting and solving the problem of preventing manipulative behavior among future teachers. Behavioral signs of manipulative behavior of teachers, typical situations of its manifestation and characteristic emotional reactions of students to pedagogical manipulation are revealed. The scientific novelty consists in presenting the value-target guidelines of actualizing pedagogical activity as a humanistically acceptable, personally and socially expedient, pedagogically effective alternative to manipulative behavior. As a result, theoretical and empirical data were obtained, which together prove that an alternative to the manipulative behavior of teachers is actualizing pedagogical activity, for which it is necessary to prepare future teachers in the process of professional education.

The study starts from assumption that together with disinfomation, intoxication, and propaganda, the manipulation is a form of persuasion, a form of persuasive communication. The manipulation is a communicative action. By the way of meta-analytical method, we emphasize some ideas. The royal way of promoting the decisive interests is manipulation-, often accompanied by constraints and violence. The world is divided into amateur manipulators and professional manipulators. Professionals are those whose job is exactly to get something from the others. The action of manipulation is not an activity performed on inspiration, randomly and by ear. Manipulation is a structured, organised and planned persuasive intervention. As actants of manipulative communication are retained journalists, priests, businessmen, sellers, scholars, teachers, artists, writers, notabilities.

Manipulative technologies have become widespread in various fields and are used in the process of legal regulation of public relations. The fact that representatives the theory of law and branch legal sciences ignore this form of legal influence on social processes can lead not only to a biased understanding of certain stages of the mechanism of legal regulation, but also to an obvious leveling of the social conditionality of the legal technique used in law-making, law-realization and law interpretation processes. The paper gives the main focus to the concept and signs of manipulation as a generic concept that manifests itself in a specific way in the process of legal influence on public relations. The author proposes his definition of manipulation and technologies of manipulation of legal goals in legal regulation. The concept of technologies for manipulating legal goals is being formed. It includes six groups of key techniques and methods by which the subject of manipulative influence: a) formulates and objectifies legal goals; b) uses already existing legal goals, coordinating the behavior of participants in legal relations in their own interests; c) stimulates the management object to achieve the set goal through the use of appropriate legal means; d) restricts the activity of the management object that runs counter to the plans of the subject of manipulation. The paper argues the according to which manipulation of legal goals is legitimate behavior, a common way of exercising public power, socially conditioned practice of legal regulation and the legal reality, which is a natural stage in the development of public relations. It is proved that all technologies of manipulation of legal goals are based on legitimate aspirations of participants in legal relations, nevertheless leading to the realization of the interests of the subject of manipulative influence at the expense and to the detriment of the interests of the object of manipulation. Despite the legality of technologies for manipulating legal goals, they can significantly reduce the effectiveness of the mechanism of legal regulation by creating an imbalance in the coexistence of the interests of the individual, society and the state.

The author devotes attention to the problem of communicative manipulation in the educational process and tries to investigate the attitude to the problem of manipulation of information of schoolchildren. In addition, the author analyzes the feasibility of using manipulation in the educational sphere, examines different scientific points of view, and considers the attitude of school students to the implementation of manipulative influence. The aim of the research was to find out the social and psychological reasons for education teachers' attitude to manipulation; to analyze the mechanisms of protection against manipulation; to systematize the methods of prevention and prevention of manipulation in education. The growing interest to the problem of manipulative influence in social activity is due to the desire of scientists to analyze the issues related to the admissibility of manipulative influence on participants in the educational process, as well as to find ways to prevent and protect against manipulation. School practice shows that older pupils often use manipulative strategies in interpersonal communication. Destructive ways of manipulation are aimed at exerting external influence, rigidly structuring pupils' behaviors and disrupting the inner freedom of the pre-adolescent child. From a socio-pedagogical point of view, the consolidation of manipulation as the main communicative influence as a way to build inter-relationships among children of adolescence is not a favorable option for the development of inter-relationships. In the first case, children may develop a lack of trust and confidence, a lack of social mobility, and a lack of adequate self-presentation in the educational environment. In the other case, rationalism, cynicism, covetousness, non-naturalness in relations may be initiated. In the author's opinion, under conditions of dynamical changes in today's educational environment negatively spun manifestations of manipulative communication are inadequate and maladaptive in the students' team. The students' understanding of the essence of the strategy of manipulation and the formation of a protective mechanism against such a way of interaction is an urgent problem of the holistic social and pedagogical process of the secondary (vocational) school.

Manipulations are taking place widely on various capital, commodity, derivative and other markets. They are reported regularly and sometimes causing significant losses. But it doesn’t mean that the efforts intended to limit this sort of activity are insignificant. Surveillance budgets, as well as applied fines, are impressing. The annual volume of manipulative attempts and the efforts, intended to deter these attempts, are growing exponentially year after year. The imperfection and low versatility of detection methods are leaving space for successful attempts, making manipulative behavior still attractive. This paper is representing the model, based on the Game Theory and aimed to fit modern requirements of surveillance. The article defines basic problems in manipulation detection and proves model’s capability to solve them. However, the problem is reviewed on a general level allowing to elaborate the versatile model, but not a specific manipulative scenario. At the same time, the model allows complementing it with precise tools defining aspects related to actual manipulation. Manipulation and the shaping of it's economic results are reviewed in-depth, revealing it's core phenomenology.

The starting point of this theoretical article is the presentation of the issue of media manipulation in the contemporary digital media environment. The theoretical part is followed by a description and analysis of selected factors that create a belief of the individual’s resilience to digital media manipulative elements. Among the seven researched factors of an individual’s (non) resilience to digital media manipulation, we include: media illiteracy/literacy, thought activity/laziness, searching/not searching for “consensus” in the media, not emphasizing/emphasizing emotions, non-reliance/reliance on own intuition, non-credibility/credibility in the opinion of celebrities and automatic distrust/trust of recipients in the information presented in the media and others. We do not see the presence of manipulative elements in digital media as the main danger (manipulation is always in a sense part of the media message), nor the fact that manipulative elements have an effect on individuals (media—manipulative and non-manipulative—effects cannot be doubted). In our opinion, the very significant risk is the fact that the media message is followed by a false belief of the recipient’s own “immunity” against (covert and overt) media manipulation. The result of this false notion is the individual’s belief that manipulation in digital media content does not “affect” him (“I can easily recognize media manipulation”) and does not “touch” him (“It can’t happen to me”). Such a person then resembles a “house on the sand”, as his opinions, arguments or beliefs quickly collapse under the onslaught of five skills: challenges in the context of media literacy, critical thinking, strategies for verifying the credibility of information sources, the rational assessment of issues and reflection of reality. This original research article is a qualitative analysis of the legacy of ten Slovak educational initiatives focused on the issue of education in the context of media manipulation. The analysis focuses on the role of individual risk factors associated with resilience. The conclusion of the analysis is the elaboration of a positive proposal for the researched issue.

The relevance of the chosen research topic is dictated by the need to describe manipulative tactics in modern English-language media discourse, taking into account both the cognitive mechanisms involved in it, which represent the basis of mental activity, and the communicative aspects of influencing a wide audience. It is shown that manipulation implies the choice and use of linguistic means that allow having a hidden effect on the addressee. Manipulative influence is considered as a leading discursive practice, which is a complex of strategic and tactical components aimed at shaping public opinion within the media space.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, teacher problems increased to maintain the effective implementation of mathematics learning. The available classical and individual concrete manipulative product innovations cannot be used in learning because learning policies during the pandemic still have to be carried out as distance learning. To overcome this problem, assistance was carried out in making videos of using concrete manipulatives to MGMP as concrete manipulative virtualization. The results of this activity show that there is an increase in the average score of the overall pre-self test competence to the post-self test. The same is true for each competency. In addition to producing video products on target, video quality is better, as well as increasing personal partners who act as actors and narrators. As a suggestion in this activity, mentoring continues to be carried out on an ongoing basis as a stage of diffusion of other innovation products and guidance for MGMP and partners of this activity can transmit to other MGMP member teachers.

Learning mathematics, especially in elementary schools, needs an emphasis on concrete operations. So a tangible form is needed in representing a mathematical concept. Problems in schools are the lack of availability of manipulative media, lack of understanding and skills of teachers about manipulative media for learning mathematics. Even though the design and manufacture of manipulatives is easy for teachers to do. Making manipulative mathematical media is one of the teacher's activities to support teaching tasks, especially in preparing learning tools such as student worksheets. The purpose of this service is to improve the ability of teachers at SD Negeri 78 Bengkulu Selatan. The activity was held at SD Negeri 78 Bengkulu Selatan with the target of serving as many as 20 teachers. The implementation of the preparation consists of four stages, namely: (1) module design, (2) training in the use of teaching aids, (3) structured assignments. The results of service activities are an increase in teachers' ability and responses to training activities.

Chronic pain is quite prevalent and causes significant disabilities and socioeconomic burdens. Spinal manipulative therapy and other manipulative therapies are used to manage chronic pain. There is a critical knowledge gap about mechanisms and sites of action in spinal manipulative therapy pain relief, especially the short-term analgesia that occurs following a treatment. Endocannabinoids are an activity-dependent neurotransmitter system that acts as a short-term synaptic circuit breaker. This review describes both clinical research and basic research evidence suggesting that endocannabinoids contribute to short-term manipulative therapy analgesia. Determining endocannabinoids involvement in spinal manipulative therapy will improve its clinical efficacy when results from basic science and clinical research are translated.

BackgroundSpinal manipulation is commonly used to treat back pain. The application of spinal manipulation has traditionally involved an element of targeting the technique to a level of the spine where the proposed movement dysfunction is sited. We evaluated the effects of a targeted manipulative thrust versus a thrust applied generally to the lumbar region.MethodsA randomised controlled clinical trial in patients with low back pain following CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) guidelines. Sixty subjects were randomly allocated to two groups: one group received a targeted manipulative thrust (n=29) and the other a general manipulation thrust (GT) (n=31) to the lumbar spine. Thrust was either localised to a clinician-defined symptomatic spinal level or an equal force was applied through the whole lumbosacral region. We measured pressure-pain thresholds (PPTs) using algometry and muscle activity (magnitude of stretch reflex) via surface electromyography. Numerical ratings of pain and Oswestry Disability Index scores were collected.ResultsRepeated measures of analysis of covariance revealed no between-group differences in self-reported pain or PPT for any of the muscles studied.SummaryA GT procedure—applied without any specific targeting—was as effective in reducing participants’ pain scores as targeted approaches.Trial registration numberISRCTN11994230.

Words are usually used in their direct meaning, but often the information provided is hidden. Manipulation is used in almost all spheres of human activity — in politics, advertising, jurisprudence, literature, psychotherapy, training, informal communication, etc., that makes it relevant for researchers. The article deals with the main points of view on linguistic manipulation as a complex psycholinguistic process and a kind of linguistic influence by the method of analysis, synthesis and generalization of scientific researches of native and foreign specialists in linguistics, psychology, rhetoric, neurolinguistic programming and discourse theory. Although the manipulative capacity of language is increasingly becoming the object of various linguistic studies, the main complexities of studying the phenomenon of speech influence remain. They are due to the interdisciplinary nature of the subject matter, the confusion of different modes of influence in language practices, and the lack of a generally accepted classification of means and methods of manipulation in linguistics. The main features of manipulation are: the hidden nature of the influence; the desire to subordinate the addressee of his will, change his views, perceptions, etc.; mastery of language and psychological skills; special linguistic organization of the text that contributes to errors in the interlocutor’s mind; lack of a defensive response from the addressee and the creation of the illusion of decision-making independence. Taken together, all these features distinguish linguistic manipulation from other forms of influence (rhetorically organized language, linguistic demagogy, propaganda, and neurolinguistic programming).

Every sensory stimulus, be it visual, audio, or some other, generates a brain response in the area of the cortex where such information is received, and processed, and gives full meaning or perception of the experience. The cerebral reaction can be monitored by measuring cortical activity through the synchronized response of a large number of neurons, ie. the formed electric wave. EEG scans show that the waves of the brain response in the alpha and beta bands are synchronized around the carrier rhythm of the music track. The sinusoids of the brain waves move in phases so that the peak of the wave always occurs at a precisely defined interval at the point preceding the next beat in the rhythm of the drum. In this way, the rhythm actually synchronizes the brain waves. For centuries, people have used binaural rhythms at 4.5 beats per second and thus causing various mental states. Although unaware of binaural rhythms, shamans were unmistakably known to cause shamanic trance, playing the drum about 4 to 7 beats per second for 13 to 15 minutes. They knew how to recognize the power and positive effects of binaural stimuli. This paper is an attempt to shed light on some possibilities of the manipulative capacities of the phenomenon called music.

AbstractPain, atrophy and dysfunction of the longissimus dorsi in the equine back can lead to poor performance and altered biomechanics. Back problems are often treated by manipulative therapy to this muscle. The purpose of this study was to identify if manipulative therapy resulted in changes to muscle tone or electromyographic (EMG) activity immediately after treatment. We measured the muscle tone during standing using a mechanical tissue indenter and the EMG activity (both at the T16 level in the longissimus dorsi) during walking around a figure-of-eight course in 26 horses. The horses were randomly assigned into three groups that received: (a) spinal (McTimoney) manipulations, (b) reflex inhibition therapy or (c) a control group that was not manipulated. The muscle tone and activity were measured immediately after treatment. Both the McTimoney and the reflex inhibition groups showed significant decreases in muscle tone (c. 12%) and walking EMG activity (c. 19%). The control group showed no significant change in tone or EMG activity. These results document how the longissimus dorsi muscle responds immediately after manipulative therapy. Further studies would be needed to identify how long such changes persist or if such changes caused a reduction in pain or an increase in performance.

Parasites have evolved different strategies to increase their transmission from one host to another. The Adaptive Host Manipulation hypothesis states that parasites induce modifications of host phenotypes that could maximise parasite fitness. There are numerous examples of parasite manipulation across a wide range of host and parasite taxa. However, the number of studies exploring the manipulative effects of parasites on amphibians is still scarce. Herein, we extensively review the current knowledge on phenotypic alterations in amphibians following parasite infection. Outcomes from different studies show that parasites may manipulate amphibian behaviours to favour their transmission among conspecifics or to enhance the predation of infected amphibians by a suitable definite host. In addition, parasites also modify the limb morphology and impair locomotor activity of infected toads, frogs, and salamanders, hence facilitating their ingestion by a final host and completing the parasite life cycle. Additionally, parasites may alter host physiology to enhance pathogen proliferation, survival, and transmission. We examined the intrinsic (hosts traits) and extrinsic (natural and anthropogenic events) factors that may determine the outcome of infection, where human-induced changes of environmental conditions are the most harmful stressors that enhance amphibian exposure and susceptibility to parasites.

The aim of the article was to substantiate the cognitive foundations of critical thinking that provide recognition of manipulative technologies. The substantiation of cognitive foundations of critical thinking, aimed at recognition of manipulative technologies, is carried out on the basis of available scientific achievements in the field of general matters of critical thinking, which are projected on the sphere of manipulative influence. The paper gives the definition of cognitive foundations that include knowledge, skills and abilities and personal attributes required for effective intellectual analysis. The following types of cognitive foundations of critical thinking are modeled and substantiated in the article: 1) knowledge; 2) skills and abilities; 3) personality traits that are actualized in the process of intellectual activity (intellectual traits). The first type of cognitive foundations are both awareness of the social context and awareness of the generally accepted value priorities of civilized society. Cognitive foundations of the second type include 10 skills, namely: finding of logical contradictions and errors; lie recognition; distinguishing between real and fictional facts; distinguishing between correct and erroneous statements; mastery of general scientific methods of analysis; establishment of the source base; argumentation; refutation of misconceptions; recognition of indicators of manipulative influence; modeling of solution options. Cognitive supports of the third type are as follows: observation, ability to perform analytical operations. The article demonstrates how skills and abilities are used in detection of textual and non-textual indicators of manipulation. Textual indicators include those that are contained in the very text of the message (logical contradictions, ambiguity of the statement, violation of the clarity of information and its completeness). Non-textual indicators are those for the recognition of which it is necessary to correlate the narrative with real events, with the logic of the relationship of events and facts as well as with ideological attitudes of the authors of the messages.

In the modern world, manipulation is a completely universal phenomenon. It can be found in all socially significant spheres of human activity. When studying manipulative strategies, it is impossible not to pay attention to the variety of their types and the goals through which manipulators resort to these actions. A set of manipulative techniques organized in a certain way, used for the purpose of exerting hidden influence, aimed at achieving a desired effect or preventing an undesirable result, is presented on examples taken from the historical novel by A. Manzoni "The Betrothed", in particular on the examples of the characters Gertrude, Don Abbondio, Lucia and Renzo. Manipulative strategies are widely used at the level of interpersonal communication. The variety of interpersonal manipulations is analyzed. Regularities between manipulative strategy and stylistic features have been established. In particular, to express the strategy of gaslighting, which is based on contradiction, the author uses affective words, asyndeton, tactics of exaggeration, repetition, and the imperative; to express projection, which consists in transferring one's responsibility to another person – metaphorical comparisons, antitheses; for the strategy of meaningless conversations, based on monologues that lead to confusion – incomplete sentences, repetitions, asyndeton; for generalization and denigration characterized by vague and abstract statements – incomplete sentences and affective words; to express the strategy of constant disappointment, which is based on the constant disappointment of the manipulator with his victim – asyndeton, exclamations, syntactic parallelism and repetitions. The perlocutionary effect, which is similar in each strategy, was studied. With his non-verbal behavior, the victim tries to convey discomfort and fear: trembling, lowered gaze, and therefore fear to look his manipulator in the eyes, silent submission. At the verbal level, this is manifested by repetitions, incomplete sentences, exclamations, exaggerations and affective words.

Objective: To investigate the action of osteopathic manipulative treatment on the muscular activity of the stomatognathic apparatus by using surface electromyography (sEMG). Material and Methods: Surface electromyography (sEMG) was performed on the masseter and anterior temporalis muscles of 120 subjects (73 F; 47 M), both at time T0 and T2. The sample was divided into three randomized groups of 40 subjects each: control, placebo, and osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT). In the T1 interval between the two evaluations, the control group was not treated, the placebo group underwent a placebo treatment, and the OMT group underwent manipulative treatment. The mean value of each measurement and its coefficient of variation, between time T0 and T2, were calculated for both the intragroup (OMT, placebo, control) and the intergroup (OMT-placebo, OMT-control). Outcomes: In 40% of the subjects, statistically significant improvements were highlighted in the OMT. Whereas, the statistically significant results of the placebo and control groups were 7.5% and 17.5%, respectively, of which more than 75% moved away from the physiological range, showing a worsening of the muscular activity. This analysis showed statistically significant variations (p ≤ 0.05) in the OMT group compared to the placebo and the control groups. Conclusions: OMT determines variations of the activity of masticatory muscles.

Humans accurately identify observed actions despite large dynamic changes in their retinal images and a variety of visual presentation formats. A large network of brain regions in primates participates in the processing of others’ actions, with the anterior intraparietal area (AIP) playing a major role in routing information about observed manipulative actions (OMAs) to the other nodes of the network. This study investigated whether the AIP also contributes to invariant coding of OMAs across different visual formats. We recorded AIP neuronal activity from two macaques while they observed videos portraying seven manipulative actions (drag, drop, grasp, push, roll, rotate, squeeze) in four visual formats. Each format resulted from the combination of two actor’s body postures (standing, sitting) and two viewpoints (lateral, frontal). Out of 297 recorded units, 38% were OMA-selective in at least one format. Robust population code for viewpoint and actor’s body posture emerged shortly after stimulus presentation, followed by OMA selectivity. Although we found no fully invariant OMA-selective neuron, we discovered a population code that allowed us to classify action exemplars irrespective of the visual format. This code depends on a multiplicative mixing of signals about OMA identity and visual format, particularly evidenced by a set of units maintaining a relatively stable OMA selectivity across formats despite considerable rescaling of their firing rate depending on the visual specificities of each format. These findings suggest that the AIP integrates format-dependent information and the visual features of others’ actions, leading to a stable readout of observed manipulative action identity.

Manipulation is a kind of speech activity which has definite intentions and aims, such as gaining control and power within political discourse. This paper will shed light on the theoretical ground on which this phenomenon is based to determine how language is utilized for manipulation. The analysis aims to investigate manipulative strategies and the language devices used in generating these strategies in al-Gaddafi s speech known as Zenga. Also, it will pay more attention to strategy of polarisation, i.e. basic strategy of positive self-presentation and negative other-presentation. This paper will be limited to lexical-semantic devices (selection of negative words for them and positive words for us), certain grammatical mechanisms (passive, nominalisation) and rhetorical devices (metaphor, metonymy, hyperbole). The study shows the diversity of modes of how language of the speech is manipulated on diffe ent levels of discourse.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate whether single-name options trading prior to earnings announcements is more informative when there exist real activity manipulations. Design/methodology/approach Using 5,419 earnings announcements during 2004–2018 made by 208 public US companies with relatively high options volumes ranked by the CBOE, the authors uncover two regularities using predictive regressions for stock return. Findings First, the total options volume up to twenty days pre-announcement is significantly higher than that in other periods only for earnings management firms; moreover, after detailing options characteristics, the authors find these intensive pre-announcement trading to be concentrated in transactions of in-the-money call and long-term maturity put options. Second, an increase in the single-name call minus put options volume can positively predict the underlying stock’s next-day excess return much better in real earnings management firms, with a larger magnitude of effect in periods right before regular earnings announcement dates. Originality/value This paper makes a marginal and novel contribution by showing that real earnings management can serve as a proxy for the potential profit from informed trading in options as the return predictability of options volume becomes stronger for firms that have the manipulation motive and indeed perform manipulative actions.

This article analyzes the substantive approaches used by the Soviet press when reflecting the topic of the repatriation of Jews from the USSR to Israel in the 1970s. This period is of particular importance in the course of studying information propaganda as an independent socio-political activity aimed at the formation of a certain type of mass consciousness. During this period, information propaganda of the Soviet mass media was perceived as an essential basis for strengthening ideological and political positions of the Soviet Union by leveling the complexities of its daily life. The study of how exactly these media promoted the topic of repatriation seems to be new in the study of the information space. The disclosure of this topic through the use of extensive empirical material enables to see the patterns of development of this space at the final stage of the Soviet period, which in turn, determines the relevance of the study in modern conditions, when manipulative priorities anew have become noticeable in the practice of the Russian media. The authors envisage the editorial policy of such an influential central newspaper as Izvestia. This publication, like all the other Soviet media, was attached to propaganda priorities, which predetermined manipulative approaches when covering the topic of repatriation. In order to determine the main trends of manipulative influence, we used structural-functional and systemic methods, as well as a method of content analysis, which together afford to see the patterns of development of the Soviet print media in the disclosure of the topic presented in the title of this article. The results of the research are not only theoretically but practically oriented, since they provide understanding of effective methods of influencing the audience and using them in everyday media practice. The research is devoted to the identification and study of methods of manipulating public opinion when covering political events by radio stations in Russia and Germany. Obtaining accurate and verified information about the events of reality is the constitutional right of every person, and the formation of an objective picture of the world and the explanation of the phenomena occurring is the most important function of the editorial office of each media. However, at present, the priority of the media is the formation (often imposition) of a certain public opinion that can distort the real situation both in the local and international context. 842 broadcasts of radio stations of different forms of ownership of Russia and Germany (three from each country) for the period from 17.01.2021 to 01.11.2022 were studied. On the example of four widely publicized Russian media events of a political nature, using the methods of content, plot-composition, lexico-stylistic and comparative analysis of radio broadcasts revealed the use of certain (even identical) manipulative techniques on both Russian and German radio stations. The leader in the regularity of the use of manipulative techniques was the state radio station “Vesti FM” (Russia) and “Deutschlandradio” (Germany), while correspondents of other radio stations studied by us presented information about events of interest to us on the air, as a rule, briefly, discreetly and only in a news format. The practice of regular use of manipulative techniques does not allow us to speak about the objective presentation of selected political media events by correspondents of some Russian and German radio stations. It seems that the current situation could contribute to the creation of an incomplete picture of the world among the audience of these radio stations. A conclusion has been reached that it is possible to minimize such cases only by continuing the activity of forming and developing a person’s critical thinking.

The problem of psychological influence on people is relevant for research both in theoretical and applied terms. A significant increase in interest in the study of communication processes is one of the characteristic features of the development of the modern world. Projects are being carried out in the course of which the features of communication in the educational, industrial, official, political and other social spheres are studied. At present, several methodological approaches that have formed in science can be identified in which the phenomenon of “manipulation” is understood differently. The paper presents the theoretical and methodological foundations of the study of psychological influence, outlines the guidelines of the studies carried out to date on this issue. Existing theories and methodologies dictate a different understanding of how to relate to manipulations, how to work with manipulative behavior, what is considered an effective solution to the problem of manipulation. In the broadest sense, manipulation is any personal influence on someone or something. As part of the writing of the article, an empirical study of employees and managers of personnel services of organizations was conducted. The subjects were 50 people aged 22 to 45 years, organizations and enterprises whose profession is of the type “person-person”, because the tendency to manipulate in this case is especially strong. Based on the study, among all the psychological manipulations in the professional activities of the personnel service, nine methods of psychological manipulations (constructive and destructive) created in the course of professional activity were identified.

The article is dedicated to the linguo-semiotic analysis of the functioning of polycode names as a manipulative tool in advertising discourse. The aim of the study is to describe the influence of non-verbal components on the expression of the illocutionary force of the name. The material of the study consists of polycode commercial designations identified through the author’s own internet monitoring and direct observation from 2021 to 2023. An examination of the situational context has been conducted, dominant signs in the structure of nomination have been identified, and the expressed meaning has been established. Word-formation models for creating names have been identified, classified according to the means of expressing illocutionary force. The use of similar models by commercial organizations from different fields of activity allows us to speak about the main trends in naming in advertising discourse. The author puts forward a projective hypothesis of manipulative influence: a stimulus-response situation is applied in advertising communication, and manipulation is realized through the tactic of imposition. It has been established that different situations are implicitly related in the message, for which loosely structured stimuli are used, which influence the formation of the addressee’s attitudes and program their behavior. It is concluded that in polycode commercial nominations, the technique of exploiting linguistic and non-linguistic behavioral stereotypes is used.

This article treats the internet memes as a way of realizing strategic communication. The paper attempts to assess the potential of internet memes of functioning as soft power tools implemented by world leaders in the field of strategic communication. The paper highlights basic notions pertaining to the respective sphere of activity: internet memes, strategic communication, political discourse, and political memes. Moreover, the work stresses the possibility of using internet memes for the purpose of manipulation based on the so called Mandela Effect. The intention of memes’ creation fully depends on the conditions of their verbalization including a need in political thoughts and ideology formation. Thus, the article highlights the ways of transforming entertaining internet memes into means of manipulation. The paper introduces an inventory of factors that can influence and manipulate the internet users' choice. The article suggests a classification of political memes (textual, non-textual, and animated) and determines the description of the concept “political memes” which is based on its narration and content. Language material was selected from the Instagram network, primarily from the official pages of English news agencies: BBC, CNN, Politico and Fox News. The paper discusses the ways of implementing Mandela Effect and its connections with political internet memes. The paper interprets the results of the research conducted by the journal "Slate" that prove the assumption concerning the internet memes' capability of facilitating of strategic communication as well as providing manipulative impact.

Abstract Social network models provide a powerful tool to estimate infection risk for individual hosts and track parasite transmission through host populations. Here, bringing together concepts from social network theory, animal personality, and parasite manipulation of host behaviour, I argue that not only are social networks shaping parasite transmission, but parasites in turn shape social networks through their effects on the behaviour of infected individuals. Firstly, I review five general categories of behaviour (mating behaviour, aggressiveness, activity levels, spatial distribution, and group formation) that are closely tied to social networks, and provide evidence that parasites can affect all of them. Secondly, I describe scenarios in which behaviour-altering parasites can modify either the role or position of individual hosts within their social network, or various structural properties (e.g., connectance, modularity) of the entire network. Experimental approaches allowing comparisons of social networks pre- versus post-infection are a promising avenue to explore the feedback loop between social networks and parasite infections.
