Повний текст джерелаThe concept of magic in a scientific discourse inevitably reveals not only the concepts of a scientist or a society that is being researched but also highlights disjunctions between them. This causes a need to widen the boundaries of the concept focusing both on the practical side of magic and the common aspects of a magic worldview. The object of the research is to reveal a variety of understanding magic based on concepts of magic and religion, magico-religious practices, and Otherworld experiences and conceptions of Lithuanian students. The analysis of students‘ concepts of magic and religion and magico-religious practices revealed the most common concepts and features of magico-religious practices in the group researched. The dissertation explores not only students‘ concepts of magic and religion and magico-religious practices but also Otherworld experiences and conceptions, which reflect magic as a part of the common human worldview. In such context dualism in perception of magic comes to light; two different ways of perceiving magic are reflected. On the one hand magic reveals itself as the whole of actions oriented towards an aim. On the other hand students‘ Otherworld experiences and conceptions that reflect themselves in student’s magico-religious practices reveal magic as a contributory element in a person’s worldview formation.

Taip atsiranda poreikis plėsti sampratos ribas, telkiantis ne tik į praktinę magijos pusę, bet ir į bendrus maginės pasaulėžiūros aspektus. Šiuo tyrimu, remiantis Lietuvos studentų magijos ir religijos sampratomis, maginėmis-religinėmis praktikomis, antgamtinio pasaulio suvokiniais, patirtimis, siekiama atskleisti magijos supratimo įvairovę. Išanalizavus studentų magijos ir religijos sampratas, studentams būdingas magines-religines praktikas, atskleidžiamos studentams būdingiausios magijos ir religijos sampratos, maginių-religinių praktikų ypatumai. Disertacijoje tiriamos ne tik studentų magijos ir religijos sampratos, maginės-religinės praktikos, bet ir antgamtinio pasaulio patirtys ir suvokiniai, kuriuose magija atsiskleidžia kaip bendražmogiškos pasaulėžiūros dalis. Tokiame kontekste išryškėja magijos suvokimo dualizmas – atsispindi du skirtingi jos matymo būdai. Viena vertus, magija atsiskleidžia kaip į tikslą orientuotų praktikų, veiksmų visuma. Kita vertus, studentų maginėse-religinėse praktikose atsispindintys antgamtinio pasaulio suvokiniai, antgamtinio pasaulio patirtys atskleidžia magiją kaip prisidedančią prie žmogaus pasaulėžiūros formavimosi.

Повний текст джерелаThe Greek Magical Papyri are a collection of magical texts from Graeco-Roman Egypt. Its contents display a mixture of different traditions, mainly Egyptian and Greek. A noticeable feature in these texts is the so-called voces magicae, mysterious looking words with no apparent lexical meaning. This dissertation focuses on analyzing the voces magicae in their textual context in order to better comprehend how this feature appears on incantations. A database was established with vox magica taken from the spells. The voces magicae were analyzed according to the words next to them. The different contexts in which voces magicae were found were discussed with examples from our corpus. Based on this analysis, it was possible to raise a few hypotheses on the nature of magical words and what kind of function they have on spells.

Повний текст джерелаFirst of all the study of the synthesis of mixed oxides of ABO, perovskite in the pores of a silica host is studied. A novel method of autoignition developed within the PhD has yielded mixed oxide nanoparticles of small size (<4 nm) homogeneously dispersed in the pores of the support while sizes of the order of 15-30 nm for this type of mixed oxide are generally observed. The mobility of oxygen in these materials is much higher than that measured for bulk perovskites. In second part, the synthesis, structural and textural properties, and the activity of SiO2-TiO2 nanocomposites are presented. Anatase nanocrystals of 4 nm or less, accessible in the pores of a mesoporous support are obtained. High amounts of titania were deposited without clogging the pores of the support or alter the physical properties of the final composite. These nanoparticles exhibit high oxygen mobility. Reactivity tests showed that control of particle size allowed to adjust the metal – support interaction (effect SMSI) where the noble metal was deposited on its surface. The last part of the PhD was on the synthesis of alumina by different routes of mesostructuration. The interest of these procedures of obtaining solids with high surface area and large pores has been shown. Preliminary results also showed the flexibility of these synthetic routes for the functionalization of the surface of alumina by incorporation of a noble metal of transition metal during synthesis

Skirtingas dirvožemio savybių vertinimas įvairiose šalyse, o taip pat labai nevienodos magnio trąšų normos augalams mus paskatino naujai peržiūrėti judriojo magnio nustatymo metodus dirvožemyje ir magnio trąšų įtaką augalams. Nustatytas ir moksliškai įvertintas dažniausiai Europoje naudojamų judriojo magnio nustatymo metodų taikymo tinkamumas įvairiuose dirvožemiuose, jų tarpusavio priklausomumas, parengti perskaičiavimo algoritmai tarp įvairiais metodais nustatytų judriojo magnio reikšmių. Vyraujančiuose Lietuvos dirvožemiuose ištirta įvairiais metodais nustatyto judriojo magnio kiekio ir magnio trąšų įtaka gausiažiedžių svidrių bei vasarinių miežių derliui ir kokybei. Apibendrinus atliktus tyrimus parengtos tinkamiausių judriojo magnio nustatymo Lietuvos dirvožemiuose metodų ir žemės ūkio augalų tręšimo magnio trąšomis rekomendacijos. Lietuvoje įvairaus tirpumo magnio kiekiai įvairiuose dirvožemiuose ir magnio trąšų įtaka žemės ūkio augalams tirta pirmą kartą.

Повний текст джерелаThis work intends to investigate some of the relations that have been established, in the Brazilian religious field, between Umbanda and the Universal Church of The Kingdoom of God. Beyond the neopentecostal accusations of devilishness, that set Afro-Brazilian religions as \"devil-like\", I believe there are some symbolic exchange between these two religions that, at first, seem so far apart. The ethnography is set in a way to display, initially, the internal working of these two religious systems - looking into their cosmologies and ritual structures. Then, the intense exchanges set between them will be approached. Specific attention will be given to particular symbols that are crucial to understand the relationship of these religions: the exus and the pombagiras are the best examples. Finally, some questions concerning the relationship between Umbanda and the Universal Church that could be considered more \"delicate\" will be discussed: the polemics about intolerance and prejudice in the field of religion in Brazil.

Resumo: A presente dissertação de mestrado dedica-se a verificar como o romance de Thomas Mann A montanha mágica poderia filiar-se ao gênero literário do Bildungsroman. Sua introdução é um breve comentário sobre o estabelecimento do gênero literário do Bildungsroman enquanto tal, seguido de um excurso, igualmente breve, aos temas que ocupavam Thomas Mann aquando da redação deste seu romance, mediante a identificação de temas centrais das Betrachtungen eines Unpolitischen (Considerações de um apolítico). Feito isto, parte-se ao trabalho propriamente dito de pôr A montanha mágica ao lado do romance de Goethe Anos de aprendizado de Wilhelm Meister, paradigma do gênero em causa, para investigar o proveito em lê-Io como Bildungsroman. A própria questão sobre o que seria efetivamente um Bildungsroman desperta polêmica até os dias atuais. Discutir A montanha mágica na qualidade de Bildungsromanimplica,pois - sempretacitamente-, em voltar à pergunta sobre o que teria feito dos Anos de aprendizado de Wilhelm Meister o primeiro romance de uma série que constituiu tradição dentro da literatura de língua alemã. Mas esta pergunta não é apresentada como tal no corpo do texto, pois o que se pretendeu foi cingir-se a aproximar ambos os romances e esclarecer como este expediente é eficaz para compreendê-Ios. Seja como for, espera-se que mesmo a investigação do gênero tomada em si mesma sempre possa aproveitar-se das diversas incursões que se têm feito ao longo do tempo àquelas obras a ele imputadas
Zusammenfassung: In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird der Frage nachgegangen, inwieweit Thomas Manns Roman Der Zauberberg der literarischen Gattung des Bildungsromans zugeordnet werden kann. Die Einleitung der Arbeit besteht aus einem Kurzkommentar über die Entstehung der literarischen Gattung des Bildungsromans; dem folgt, indem die zentralen Themen aus Betrachtungen eines Unpolitischen bestimmt werden, ein Exkurs über die Themen, die Thomas Mann zur Zeit der Niederschrift des Romans beschãftigten. Im Hauptteil der Arbeit wird Der Zauberberg dem Roman von Goethe Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre - dem Paradigma der Gattung - zur Seite gestellt, und es wird untersucht, ob Thomas Manns Buch in produktiver Weise aIs Bildungsroman gelesen werden kann. Die Frage, was eigentlich ein Bildungsroman sei, ist auch in heutiger Zeit noch umstritten. Eine Betrachtung Des Zauberbergs aIs Bildungsroman impliziert aIso immer auch - wenngleich unausgesprochen - eine Rückbetrachtung der Gründe, die Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre zum ersten Roman einer Gattung werden lieBen, die sich dann - aus heutiger Sicht - aIs Tradition in der deutschsprachigen Literatur etabliert hat. Dieser Fragestellung wird jedoch im HauptteiI der Arbeit nicht nachgegangen, da dieser sich darauf beschrãnkt, beide Romane gegenüberzustellen, um dadurch aufzuklãren, ob dieser Weg geeignet ist, sie zu verstehen. Es wird jedoch gehofft, dass eine Untersuchung der Gattung aIs solche aus den verschiedenen Annãherungen, die im Lauf der Zeit an ihr unterstellte Werke gemacht wurden, Nutzen ziehen kann

Resumo: Este estudo tem como ponto de partida o referencial teórico formulado por Coudry (1986/88) para a área de Neurolingüística que articula a dimensão histórica, intersubjetiva e psíquica da linguagem em função de questões teóricas e metodológicas que repercutem na prática clínica, especialmente no que se refere à relação entre teoria e dado. Trata-se de um trabalho de caráter clínico tanto pela investigação que se propõe a desenvolver quanto pela descrição de procedimentos e práticas com e sobre a linguagem usados no acompanhamento longitudinal de um sujeito de 30 anos do sexo masculino (AL), que apresenta um quadro de Síndrome Frontal leve em virtude de um traumatismo craniano que acometeu bilateralmente os lobos frontais e o lobo parietal alto à direita. No estudo clínico são considerados os múltiplos fatores pré e pós-episódio neurológico que explicam a heterogeneidade do quadro semiológico de AL: a suposta dislexia diagnosticada na 7ª série do ensino fundamental, o histórico de alcoolismo, o traumatismo crânio-encefálico, a síndrome frontal e as fabulações. Os sintomas que decorrem do quadro se manifestam de maneira discreta o que implica lidar com a estreita relação entre normal/patológico e com a instabilidade que lhe é característica. O sujeito foi acompanhado longitudinalmente entre abril de 2003 e outubro de 2004 no Laboratório de Neurolingüística (LABONE) do Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem (IEL) da Unicamp, para onde foi encaminhado para avaliação neurolingüística em fevereiro de 2002 com queixa de dificuldade de aprendizagem e de leitura e com queixa pessoal de memória. Por meio de achados e indícios que se apresentam em meio à situação clínica - que tem como fio condutor a escrita na Agenda Mágica como lugar de reconstrução da relação do sujeito com a escrita e com a sua subjetividade ¿ são estudadas as relações entre linguagem, memória, corpo e percepção, a partir da articulação das formulações de Freud sobre o funcionamento neurofisiológico do aparelho psíquico, os estudos de Jakobson a respeito do funcionamento bipolar da linguagem e as formulações de Luria sobre a organização sistêmica e hierarquizada das funções cerebrais
Abstract: This study has, as starting point, the theoretic referential formulated by Coudry (1986/88) for the area of Neurolinguistics that articulates the historical, inter-subjective and psychic dimension of the language in function of theoretical and methodological questions that re-echo in the practical clinic, especially to the relation between theory and data. It is a work of clinical character such as the inquiry proposed to be developed, as the description of procedures and practices with and about the language used in the longitudinal accompaniment of 30 years old man (AL) that presents a Frontal Syndrome picture due to a brain damage that affected his frontal lobes bilaterally and his parental upright lobe. In the clinical study multiple neurological prior and after episode factors are considered that explain the heterogeneity of AL¿s picture: the supposed dyslexia diagnosis on the seventh grade of basic school, the history of alcoholism, the traumatic brain injury, the frontal syndrome and the fantastical narratives. The symptoms related to the picture reveal in a discrete way what implies dealing with the narrow relation between normal/pathological and with its characteristic instability. The individual was followed longitudinally from April 2003 to October 2004 at the Neurolinguistic Laboratory (LABONE) of Unicamp¿s Institute of Language Studies (IEL), to where he was guided for neurolinguistic evaluation in February 2002, with complaints of difficulty on learning and reading and personal memory complaint. Based on findings and clues present in the clinical situation - that has as conducting wire the writing in the Magical Agenda as a place of reconstruction of the relation between the individual to the writing and its subjectivity - are studied the relations between language, memory, body and perception, from the joint of Freud¿s formularizations about neurophysiological psychic device, Jakobson¿s studies regarding the bipolar functioning of the language and the Luria¿s formulations on the systemic and hierarchically cerebral functions organization

Повний текст джерелаThe goal of this thesis: in accordance to the review of the esoteric literature in Lithuanian, to highlight the uncertainties of the esoteric terminology, to reveal a critical attitude to the free interpretation of the esoteric terminology and to describe the effects of the precise esoteric terminology to the success of pastoral work. To achieve the goal such tasks were raised: - To define the terms of magic, esoteric and occultism. - To introduce how the esoteric terms are used in the Catholic pastoral work as well as to explain the most common mistakes. - To reveal the importance of the precise terminology for the pastoral subject. - Indicate the risk arising from incorrect usage of esoteric terms in pastoral work. - To provide guidance for pastoral workers. In order to implement tasks and achieve thesis goal were used methods of comparative analysis and synthesis. While working the terms of occultism, esoteric and magic were defined. Occultism is the study of esoteric practices, including (but not limited to) magic and spiritualism; it is the syncretic type of magic philosophy common from the 19th to 20th century. Esotericism can be defined as a religious philosophical system, which is based on magic or parapsychology rituals and methods to come into contact with the Otherworld. Повний текст джерелаThis work intends to be a brief treatise on the relations between contemporary art and western magical thinking. At the crossroads between poetic essay, anthropology of art, aesthetics and witchcraft, a circle is drawn under the sign of the academic \"beast\": interdisciplinarity. From this point of departure, we study a series of recent curatorial projects that deal with magic, occultism, shamanism or animism, paying close attention to the prejudices that surface in some of these curatorial discourses. This reflection is intertwined with historical references that serve as an explanatory framework for the fall of western magical thinking and, along with it, the loss of status of both imagination and image as respected sources of knowledge. After having defined the state of neglect this (magical) tradition was left in after successive smear campaigns, we introduce a series of figures that will serve to construct a new (but perhaps rather ancient) magical-aesthetic theory. Following the trail of contemporary thinkers linked to speculative realism and object-oriented ontology, the work reconnects with a forgotten magical-aesthetic (western) tradition with a mythical and animistic (or vitalist, if you prefer) dimension. We also emphasize the importance of put-ting the \"artist\'s word\" on the same level as the \"philosopher\'s word\", whilst at the same time carefully avoiding to turn the cited artists into an object of study. We claim that - in spite of the centuries in which the Western intellectual elite has been preaching against the possibility of a magical-aesthetic ontology - there are individuals and groups that are active in the margins of the dichotomous prejudices that today some avant-garde academic thinkers are trying to transcend with much difficulty. In this sense, the work argues that many artists were already vibrant materialists and speculative realists much before the new on-to-materialistic philosophical currents which are very much in vogue nowadays.

Повний текст джерелаThis thesis follows my field work carried out from 2007 to 2010 in a village located in the south eastern part of Zanzibar Island, part of the Swahili area and peopled by farmers and fishermen. The way the village became populated is related to the creation and the dynamics of the Swahili society in an afro-centred perspective so as to analyse the reasons for and the modes of the population's conversion to Islam. Over the years the peoples have secured their faith in Islam in a selective way, which has kept the traditional system of representation and thinking alive. The contemporary reconstitution within the community is scrutinized through the organisation of the village, its social life and Bantu traditions as well as the Islamic religion pulsing the population's daily life. This society, in constant evolution, keeps its own free will by safeguarding a cultural multiplicity (place and role of the ancestors, cults of possession…) and by accepting Islamic elements to be part and parcel of their community, which has made it both richer and stronger in terms of social cohesion and moral values. The fully-detailed magic and witchcraft practices at the core of the demonstration reveal that the collective imagination is deeply rooted in a magic base which keeps accounting for the phenomena of diseases, ill-fortune and so on, despite the sincere Muslim religious beliefs of the inhabitants. Magic and witchcraft, commonplace in their everyday life, are made up of a juxtaposition or an assembly of rituals initiated by some opportunistic magic which resorts to Islam (diverse manipulations of the Koran) in order to strengthen Bantu practices when necessary and to legitimize acts far from being compliant with religious tenets. The dynamics of African and Islamic witchcraft is being enhanced by new sociological data (a heightened sense of covetousness and jealousy, a steady rise in individualism and the ancestors gradually losing their clout). The present thesis, suggests in a relativist perspective that the daily representations remain firmly anchored in the African Bantu matrix as an access to the truth of the world and that the complex and multifaceted compromises with Islam through some « cross-fertilization » system contribute to maintaining a social and spiritual equilibrium and to advocating some compatibility between the different thinking patterns in a community which has refused to choose between the two of them

Повний текст джерелаThe research project suggests exploring the particular relationship between " to write " and the magic by taking place as closely as possible to the materiality of the writing: with what and on what do we write? The antique novels and the adventures of king Arthur and Knights of the Round Table, XIIth and XIIIth centuries, works which constitute our corpus, state parchments, "letters", tissues or clothes, of skins of animals or human, plant supports, gravestones, weapons on which we write, sometimes with two or three colors, with various "instruments": feathers of bird (with ink), sharp stylets for example. In a atypical way, substrata short-lived as the flour, the ash, the snow appear; the blood of people (or animals), often, leaves with it signs. Messages written are not still established on the alphabet (for example in the Lay of the Honeysuckle). The support(medium) and the shape of these writings have a particular sense and confer a magic value on the left messages, by the characters, the menor the women, the magicians or the initiated people. The imagination of this kind of cryptography is different from that of the writing: it bases on the support, its materiality and will be the track to favor in our survey(investigation). We shall thus ask ourselves the question of the intentionality of the signs in these messages, according to the choice of the support(medium), whatever it is. The works of our corpus were written for a period which knows the immense development, in vernacular language, the medieval literature; it has a very strong link with the oral character and the folklore. Our survey(investigation) will grant(tune) a particular importance for the popular traditions, for the folklore, for the magic faiths; the tales, the legends, the hagiographic texts as well as the texts with not literary values will be considered to include the part of the imagination in the act to write, by taking into account, where necessary, narratives of the other cultural, extra-European areas and by thinking about the anthropological dimension of the act to write. Also, names (people, places) as well as dates will be considered with attention. The concept of " magic writing " will be defined and encircled: what do we envisage in this magic which can be bound(connected) to supports(media), to signs, to language(tongue) used to draft the message, and to the person who writes? Il will thus involve of giving a sense(direction) to the word "magic" by basing(establishing) itself on the etymology, its relation in the sacred, in the religion, in the witchcraft. We shall lean in this search(research) on what is known supports(media) quoted in the corpus, by basing(establishing) us on the statement of the cases(occurrences) of the terms describing the act to write, and their etymology. This magic has an incidence on the imagination which is not a simple established fact. The works of our corpus keep(guard) tracks of former(old) myths on the appearance of the writing (without her(it) confusing(merging) with the drawing or the paint(painting)), of its powers, his(her,its) relation for the magic and for the sacred. These myths evolve, coexist with the Christian vision but do not die. They will so be stakeholders of our search(research) to question the various imagination of cryptography

Because of this, the field men had an important role in its development. It is now, for us, a major source of legal insecurity in the use of group insurance. We can find the “stipulation for the benefit of a third party” mechanism in every group insurance agreements. However the stipulation object is not the same. The stipulation object determination is particularly important. It allows to identify, within the group insurance mechanism, which privity of contract is an insurance contract. In an optional agreement contract, each subscriber is linked to his insurance company through a single insurance contract. On the contrary, in a mandatory agreement contract, only the group insurance agreement is an insurance contract. This bases the difference between a mandatory agreement contract and an optional agreement contract. The provisions calculated to the group insurances are too incomplete to build a true system of law. Only the juridical grounds of these contracts allow to define their system of law. The obvious impossibility to find a common juridical ground for the whole group insurances, forces to recognize two separate systems of law. One deals with optional agreement contract, the other with mandatory agreement contract

Such men were, therefore, practitioners of diverse types of magic necromancy, cunning practices, exorcism among other magical practices. Through the objects of necromancy, and the themes of many different magic practices, including the use of papers and texts that supported them specially the Clavícula Salomonis and the Book of São Cipriano male magic buildt itself on a specific field of action: the material magic in wich individual benefits are the unique aim to be reached. The devil is not just a revealer of conflicts between good and evil, but also shows the discourses of heretics, and the Inquisition and Church pedagogies.

Повний текст джерелаSince the introduction of the private commercial motor transport services in Tanzania in the 1990s, the inscription of sayings has shifted from their mainly traditional platforms of female cotton wrap (Kanga), palm leaf food cover (kawa) or hand fan (kipepeo) onto the tailgate, sideboards or mudguards of commercial automobiles. The vehicle owners and/or their operators are inscribers of these automobile slogans. I analyse them in three forms: standard, parodied and innovated sayings adopting the paremiological approaches by Mieder & Litovkina (1999), Mieder (2007), Litovkina (2011). Do these forms of car inscriptions fulfill the prediction by Kezilahabi (1988, 1995) on the imminent transformation of the Swahili sayings to become a platform for negotiation of people`s tumultuous life challenges and desires?

Повний текст джерелаAt his research outlines the ways of thinking of a man that belonged to the third generation of republicans, as well as the way he acted politically in the Meuse department where he was continually re-elected after defeating nationalist H. Ferrette in a 1910 dead heat. It mentions his quick parliamentary learning period and, after he was severely wounded in November 1914, the part he played as a member of the Ribot cabinet, backing general Nivelle and choosing abstention in the ratification of the Versailles treaty it shows what part André Maginot played in the occupation of the Ruhr, his struggle against the coalition of 1924 and his early call for a suggested national union. Beyond prevailing ideas, the research shows how, in December 1929, André Maginot got the parliament to vote a several-year financial scheme for the fortifications building programmed designed by Paul Painleve, how he chose general Weygand as chief of staff and started reinforcing the country's military equipment while contributing to the definition of France’s position at the so-called conference of disarmament. A large part of this study is devoted to André Maginot’s parliamentary and ministerial action after the first world war (he was in charge of war pensions, of colonies, of war), and refers to the methods of political decision-making (interventions in cabinet meetings, parliamentary tactics, relations with high ranking civil servants and the general staff). Furthermore, this study allows defining more clearly the minister's relations with R. Poincare, G. Clemenceau, A. Millerand and A. Briand. It ends with an analysis of the marks left by André Maginot on the nation's subconscious : from the pink legend to the black legend

Повний текст джерелаThis thesis aims to analyze some biblical passages of the book of Exodus, especially situated between chapters 4-14, from the theoretical framework of magicreligious symbolism. To achieve this purpose, we will divide our research into four parts. First, we will seek to understand the meaning of the symbol, as well as its importance to the Hebrew Bible as a whole and especially to the book of Exodus. Second, we will discourse about the meaning of magic and religion, we will cover the main anthropological and sociological theories about it and then we justify the use of the compound term magical-religious in our research. Third, we will discuss on the phenomenon of the magical-religious in the Hebrew Bible. Finally, in fourth and last place, with the help of magical-religious symbolic instrumental previously constructed, we will present our translation and its exegesis of some excerpts from the book of Exodus, ranging from chapters 4 to 14. For this, we will base on the Hebrew Masoretic text present in the standard critical edition of the Tanakh, that is, the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia, edited by Karl Elliger and Wilhelm Rudolph, which is currently in its fifth edition revised. With this work we intend to contribute to the studies concerning the Hebrew Bible and especially the book of Exodus.

Повний текст джерелаMicroorganisms of the class Actinobacteria and domain Archaea are interesting from a biotechnological perspective owing to their metabolic attributes as producers of secondary metabolites and resilience under harsh environmental conditions respectively. Lake Magadi is a soda lake well studied in terms of its geology and limnology. Research attention has also been drawn to the microbial populations which thrive in this unique habitat but currently there are no reports on the assessment of its microflora using molecular methods. This study aimed to assess the actinobacterial and archaeal communities within Lake Magadi, Kenya a hypersaline –highly alkaline habitat using metagenomic methods as a preliminary study to identify potential candidates for exploitative biology Samples from two sites dubbed Lake Magadi station 2 (LM2) and Lake Magadi salt pan 4 (LMS4) within the Lake Magadi were analyzed using the 16S rRNA gene as a phylogenetic marker. Cluster analysis of taxon-specific 16S rDNA PCR-DGGE profiles revealed moderately heterogeneous actinobacterial and archaeal populations across the sample sites under investigation which is probably a reflection of the differences in abiotic conditions at the study sites. This observation was also confirmed from the multi-dimensional scaling (MDS) plot. PCR-based clonal libraries of actinobacterial and archaeal communities of both study sites retrieved a total of thirty-two clones (twenty actinobacterial and twelve archaeal) were sequenced. Analysis of the sequences revealed cultured and uncultured signatures of microorganisms typical of hypersaline and or highly alkaline niches. A few (3) sequences presented novelty (<96%) in identities with any previously identified organism. It was concluded that the species dominance at site LMS4 [situated within the salt flats of Lake Magadi and site for exploration of trona and its mineralized extensions (nacholite and gayllusite)] is likely to be dictated by anthropogenic stress since most of the microbial signals associated with the study site are typical of saline and or alkaline environmental samples exposed to especially mining but also agricultural and waste management practices. Isolation studies also revealed previously identified strains peculiar to hypersaline brines and sediments. The strains retrieved were affiliated to the taxonomically diverse genus Bacillus and Halomonas sp. The true applications and potential opportunities these isolates have for biotechnology have been well documented. Observations made from the culture dependent and culture independent methods suggests strongly that study site LMS4 is subjected to environmental conditions more severe than at site LM2. This study is a guide for future studies as it provides primary information on the haloalkaliphilic representatives of the actinobacteria phylum and domain Archaea within the soda lake environment. It can serve as a pedestal for investigation into the molecular machinery that supports the haloalkaliphilic lifestyles of inhabiting microorganisms and consequently give leads as to how they can be commercially exploited.

This written work aims to addres the theme of Magic in the Mediterranean World at the period of Early Christianity. The Magic, wich, by its supernatural caracther, arouses interest and show the ways of relationship between human and sacred, at the same time that reveals several tensions and comprehensions about the popular religion´s practice. So, we construe the relationship between Magic and Miracle as so as the relationship of Magic and Religion. For this, we approach texts of Magic duels at canonical narratives, like Acts Of The Apostles 8. 4-25, that show common elements with the imagination of Early Christianity wich increase the tensions beteween Magicians and Apostles and enrich the presence and importance of the themeof Magic in the Mediterranean culture at the first centuries of the Christian Era. Especially in the face of this rivarly between thaumaturges, we can see the danger that Magic represented to the nascent Christianity and its identity in formation and the stratchs that the Magic bring for the teaching of the Apostles. So, after to broach the Magic elements at different narratives, we turn our attention to the Acts of Apostles, looking for the understanding of the importance of Luke´s narrative for the community of Early Christianity, especially in relation to the stricking and historical figure of Simon, The Magician. Simon was identified, historically, like the prototype heretic, Gnosticism´s father and Christianity´s corrupter, having borrowed his identity to represent all the way of corruptions of the apostolic teatching and ethical and moral deviations in the course of ecclesiastical history
Este trabalho tem como objetivo abordar o tema da magia no mundo mediterrâneo no período do Cristianismo Primitivo. A magia que, por seu caráter sobrenatural, desperta interesse e apresenta as formas de relação entre o humano e o sagrado, ao mesmo tempo em que revela diversas tensões e compreensões a respeito da prática da religiosidade popular. Deste modo, analisamos a relação entre magia e milagre e, também, sua relação com a religião. Para isso, abordamos textos de duelos mágicos tanto em narrativas canônicas, como Atos dos Apóstolos 8.4-25, quanto apócrifas, como Atos de Pedro, que apresentam elementos comuns ao imaginário cristão primitivo reforçando a tensão entre magos e apóstolos, e valorizando a presença e importância do tema na cultura do Mediterrâneo nos primeiros séculos da era cristã. Especialmente, diante dessa rivalidade entre taumaturgos, observamos o perigo que a magia representava em relação ao cristianismo nascente, para sua identidade em formação e o risco que esta oferecia para o ensino dos apóstolos. Assim, após abordar os elementos mágicos em diversas narrativas, voltamos nossa atenção ao texto canônico de Atos dos Apóstolos buscando compreender a importância da narrativa lucana para a comunidade do cristianismo nascente, especialmente em relação à figura marcante e histórica de Simão, o Mago. Simão, historicamente, foi identificado como o protótipo do herege, pai do gnosticismo e corruptor do cristianismo, tendo sua identidade “emprestada” para representar toda forma de corrupção dos ensinamentos apostólicos e desvios éticos e morais no decorrer da história eclesiástica.

This dissertation will examine the Greek expression ta. stoicei/a tou/ ko,smou, "the elements of the world", which appears in the letter of Colossians verses 8-20 of the second chapter. There will be an exegetical study of the biblical pericope 2:8-3:4 of the letter as well as a historical analysis specifically the term stoicei/a. The study of this expression is important to be able to understand the Colossians philosophy mentioned in Cl 2:8. The Christian church in the city of Colossae, is part of a syncretic religious social context. This syncretism is clearly seen in magic texts as the Greek Magical Papyri, very common in Minor Asia region, where the Colossian church was situated. Religious syncretism, involving Jewish and pagan beliefs, reflects the basis of this philosophy. The author of the letter to the Colossians refutes the belief in "elements of the world" and the subservience to them. Among other beliefs, it was believed that these "elements" could influence events on land and the fate of people. Issues involving ascetic practices, worship of angels and observance of the liturgical calendar, give the contours of this philosophy. The writer emphasizes the Lordship of Christ and his works in favor of Colossian Christians, who gave them a good destination. Moreover, the Colossian Christians are guaranteed a freedom that could not be curtailed by any other religious beliefs. So the works of Christ and his lordship are the main arguments used by the author of the letter, in order to say to Christians in Colossae that they no longer need to fear their fate and to submit to the "elements of the world".
Esta dissertação de mestrado analisará a expressão grega ta. stoicei/a tou/ ko,smou, “os elementos do mundo”, que ocorre na carta de Colossenses nos versículos 8 e 20 do segundo capítulo. Será feito um estudo exegético na perícope bíblica 2.8-3.4 da referida carta, bem como uma análise histórica especificamente do termo stoicei/a. O estudo desta expressão é importante para poder se compreender a filosofia colossense mencionada em Cl 2.8. A igreja cristã na cidade de Colossos estava inserida em um contexto social religioso sincrético. Esse sincretismo é percebido claramente em textos de magia como os Papiros Mágicos Gregos, muito comuns na região da Ásia Menor, a mesma onde a igreja colossense estava situada. O sincretismo religioso, envolvendo crenças judaicas e pagãs, reflete as bases dessa filosofia. O autor da carta aos Colossenses refuta a crença nos “elementos do mundo”, bem como a subserviência aos mesmos. Dentre outras crenças, acreditava-se que esses “elementos” poderiam influenciar os acontecimentos sobre a terra e o destino das pessoas. Questões que envolvem práticas acéticas, adoração a anjos e observância de calendário litúrgico, dão os contornos dessa filosofia. O autor da carta enfatiza o senhorio de Cristo, bem como as obras dele em favor dos cristãos colossenses, que proporcionavam a eles, segurança quanto a terem um bom destino. E, além disso, é assegurada uma liberdade aos cristãos colossenses que não podia lhes ser cerceada por quaisquer outras crenças religiosas. Então, as obras de Cristo, bem como o seu senhorio, são os principais argumentos utilizados pelo autor da carta, a fim de afirmar aos cristãos em Colossos que eles não precisam mais temer o destino e nem se submeter aos “elementos do mundo”.

A síndrome de Smith-Magenis (SMS) foi descrita , em 1986, como uma síndrome que envolvia uma mutação na região 17p em 9 pacientes. Sua prevalência esta estimada em um caso a cada 25.000 nascidos vivos. A SMS apresenta fenótipo que inclui características físicas, no desenvolvimento e comportamentais. Os sinais faciais se caracterizam por uma face larga e de forma quadrangular, braquicefalia, frontal proeminente, sinofre, fendas palpebrais alongadas para cima, ponte nasal larga, hipoplasia de face média, nariz largo e achatado, micrognatia na infância com relativa prognatia com a idade e lábio superior protruso e em „v‟ invertido. Os sinais clínicos mais importantes na SMS são comportamentais que levam a autoagressão, hiperatividade e déficit atenção. Foram estudados 31 pacientes brasileiros com suspeita diagnóstica de SMS. As análises genéticas realizadas para avaliar este grupo incluíram técnicas de citogenética molecular (FISH), aCGH, PCR quantitativa e busca por mutações na região de transcrição do gene RAI1. Os resultados demostraram que mais de 90% dos casos neste estudo tinham deficiência mental, atraso no desenvolvimento da fala e comportamento de auto-injúria. Além disso, 30% (9/30) tiveram deleção ou mutação de ponto na região 17p11.2 e RAI1 gene, sendo que 67% apresentaram uma deleção clássica (6/9), 11% tinham uma deleção atípica (1/9) e 22% (2/9) tinham uma mutação no gene RAI1. Foi possível determinar o ponto de quebra das deleções observadas e determinar os genes envolvidos. A deleção atípica descrita neste trabalho atingiu parte do gene RAI e até o momento não havia sido descrita. Além disso, duas mutações de ponto, no exon 3 do gene foram descritas. The Smith-Magenis syndrome (SMS) was described in 1986 as a syndrome involving a deletion in the 17p region in 9 patients. Its prevalence is estimated at one case per 25.000 live births. The SMS has phenotype that includes physical and behavioral development. The facial features are characterized by brachycephaly, midface hypoplasia, relative prognatism, everted, tented upper lip and deep-set, close-spaced eyes. The most important clinical features in SMS are leading behavioral self-injury, hyperactivity and attention deficit. We studied 31 Brazilian patients with suggested diagnostic to SMS. The genetic analysis performed to evaluate this group included molecular cytogenetic techniques (FISH), aCGH, quantitative PCR and the search for mutations in the gene transcription RAI1. Results showed that over 90% of the cases in this study had intellectual disability, delayed speech-language development, and self-injurious behavior. Furthermore, 30% had deletion or point mutation in the 17p11.2 region and RAI1 gene. Within this group, we found that 67% carried a classic deletion, 11% had an atypical deletion and 22% had a mutation in the RAI1 gene. It was possible to determine the breakpoint of the deletions observed and to determine the genes involved. The atypical deletion described reached part of the gene RAI1 and to date had not been described. In addition, two point mutations in exon 3 gene have been described. Finally, in this study group, one case was diagnosed with 1p36 deletion syndrome hinting of a possible new Differential Diagnosis for SMS. These findings add information for the etiology of SMS and may facilitate the development of new diagnostic tools, including FISH probes and sequencing-based screening for mutations.
