In recent decades the discipline of American historical knowledge has been heavily influenced by the works of revisionist historians, who have dominated both science and education, as well as popular culture. New interpretations and reinterpretations of the past have become more popular than any previous efforts in the field. The contradictory nature and radical ideological content of revisionist interpretations of historical events made them highly appealing to a mass audience seeking an alternative to “boring” academic narratives, on the one hand, and on the other hand, they have caused considerable disruption for traditionalist historians, who had to evaluate and criticize not only the endeavors of their colleagues, but also those of laymen. Among the latter, representatives of cultural establishment, particularly literature and cinema, have a singular influence. In this article the author examines some examples of revisionist works of art, highlighting the main problems arising from specific readings of history, including historical inaccuracy, ideological bias, political partisanship, disregard for the sources, logical fallacies, a tendency to mythmaking, and numerous “artistic licenses”.

History is a social science, which is concurrently humanistic since it offers not only knowledge about the past, but through the study of historical processes and phenomena influences the creation of a representation of today's concepts and social processes. History is the foundation on which the personality of each individual is built and formed, particularly in education where history models the mankind about their knowledge of themselves and others. Unfortunately, in more or less all Balkan historiographies there is a certain extent of history mythologizing, reinterpretation of facts depending on the needs of usually the government or certain structures and centers of power, and the imposition of truth that should not be discussed, or what is written in textbooks. That is why the mentioned structures create purposeful crises, and then they manage them and, if necessary, resolve them. Socio-political relations are changing and most frequently, apart from a small circle of people who have an interest, ordinary people and society as a whole suffer from long-term harmful consequences that can often get out of control. That is why history has become a powerful weapon that is very often used to manipulate and achieve various, mostly political goals. That is why it is difficult to be a historian in the Balkans! It is quite normal and logical for historians to argue and disagree about certain historical processes and phenomena, but the problem is that because of the above mentioned, historians become an instrument for achieving a certain goal and ideology. One such example is North Macedonia, which suffers consequences in its development, position in the world and realization of its strategic goals precisely because of the (mis)use of history and historical revisionism. This is particularly pronounced by the blocking of North Macedonia to start the negotiations for EU membership by Bulgaria due to the history and processes in the past that are not in line with the so-called Bulgarian historical narrative. Using an argument of force, not facts, using its better international position, Bulgaria creates and imposes a narrative on the Bulgarian identity of the Macedonian people, and the Macedonian language for the Bulgarian dialect, with the relativization of the then Bulgarian participation in the fascist coalition, and the negation of the occupying regime. This is utterly inappropriate for one state to intervene in this way on the history and historical facts of another state. Bilateral disputes are not new to Europe, but the way and pressure that Bulgaria is exerting on North Macedonia is morally and legally unjustified, in which a large part of historians are co-sponsors, becoming an instrument of certain structures. In addition to the analysis of controversial attitudes and positions as a result of historical revisionism of Bulgarian institutions and „historians“, the paper shows that the development of relations between the two countries is directly correlated with changes in government and governing structures, i.e, their ideologies and needs. The resolution of disputes related to the past is possible only with the application of modern approaches and depoliticization of history and its role in modern society.

Logic ought to guide our thinking. It is better, more rational, more intelligent to think logically than to think illogically. Illogical thought leads to bad judgment and error. In any case, if logic had no role to play as a guide to thought, why should we bother with it?The somewhat naïve opinions of the previous paragraph are subject to attack from many sides. It may be objected that an activity does not count as thinking at all unless it is at least minimally logical, so logic is constitutive of thought rather than a guide to it. Or it may be objected that whereas logic describes a system of timeless relations between propositions, thinking is a dynamic process involving revisions, and so could not use a merely static guide. Or again the objection may be that there is no such thing as logic, only a whole variety of different logics, not all of which could possibly be good guides.

In this essay, I argue that Robert Boyle does not hold that true religion requires us to believe doctrines that are in violation of the law of noncontradiction or that it yields logical contradictions. Rather, due to the epistemological limitations of human reason, we are sometimes called to believe doctrines or propositions that are at first blush contradictory but, upon further inspection, not definitively so. This holds for doctrines considered singly or together and is an important qualifier to the traditional line of scholarship’s flat claim that Boyle’s limits of belief are logical contradictions. My conclusions here are at odds with Jan W. Wojcik’s claim, in her important, revisionist work on the famous natural philosopher, that he teaches that sometimes we are required to believe religious doctrines that violate the law of noncontradiction.

The aim of this research is knowing whether research instrument is feasible or no to get data of research. The instrument of this research is logical mathematics quotient test with 25 problems in multiple choice and mathematics problem solving test with 4 questions in essay. Testing the appropriateness of instrument of logical mathematics intelligence consist of content validity, level of problem difficulties, power differentiator, and reliability. Meanwhile, testing the appropriateness of instrument of mathematics problem solving use content validity. The validator for both of logical mathematics intelligence test and mathematics problem solving test is expert judgement. There are 39 students of Senior High School as respondent who are joining instrument try out. The results of appropriateness of instrument show: 1) there are 25 questions of logical mathematics quotient instrument which are feasible to take research data, and 2) instrument of mathematics problem solving in linier equation system material is feasible to use with some revisions from expert judgment.

O presente artigo tem por objetivo analisar um importante momento de transformação na obra de Rudolf Carnap. Este momento diz respeito à publicação do livro The Logical Syntax of Language em 1934 e as modificações versam sobre a estrutura de análise lógica e as posições metateóricas do autor. Especificamente, no campo metodológico, Carnap desenvolve a sintaxe lógica enquanto estrutura de análise lógico-linguística e, a partir dela, elabora a Lógica da Ciência como o campo da Filosofia da Ciência e, no campo metateórico, substitui o fundacionismo metodológico do Aufbau pelo falibilismo epistemológico. Diante de tais mudanças, Coffa, uma referência fundamental do revisionismo carnapiano, alegou que o empirismo de Carnap, com a ascensão sintática e a perda do status de incorrigibilidade das sentenças protocolares, foi levado ao convencionalismo da base empírica e ao relativismo epistemológico. Deste modo, nosso objetivo neste artigo é apresentar uma interpretação consistente do Logical syntax, assim como avaliar e criticamente discutir a interpretação de Coffa em The semantic tradition from Kant to Carnap.

Cantor’s paradise from the perspective of non‐revisionist Wittgensteinianism: Ludwig Wittgenstein is known for his criticism of transfinite set theory. He forwards the claim that we tend to conceptualise infinity as an object due to the systematic confusion of extension with in‐ tension. There can be no mathematical symbol that directly refers to infinity: a rule is the only form by which the latter can appear in our symbolic operations. In consequence, Wittgenstein rejects such ideas as infinite cardinals, the Cantorian understanding of non‐denumerability, and the view of real numbers as a continuous sequence of points on a number line. Moreover, as he understands mathematics to be an anthropological phenomenon, he rejects set theory due to its lack of application. As I argue here, it is possible to defend Georg Cantor’s theory by taking a standpoint I call quietistic conventionalism. The standpoint broadly resembles Wittgenstein’s formalist middle period and allows us to view transfinite set theory as a result of a series of definitions established by arbitrary decisions that have no ontological consequences. I point to the fact that we are inclined to accept such definitions because of certain psycho‐ logical mechanisms such as the hypothetical Basic Metaphor of Infinity proposed by George Lakoff and Rafael E. Núñez. Regarding Wittgenstein’s criterion of applicability, I argue that it presupposes a static view of science. Therefore, we should not rely on it because we are unable to foresee what will turn out to be useful in the future.

This essay aims to demonstrate a clear and significant difference, not merely expository revisions or additions, in the logical progression of Being between Hegel's two main versions of the Doctrine of Being (1812-­1817 and 1827-­1830, 1832). This controversial issue is analyzed by retracing and examining changes that international scholarship still widely neglects. Focusing on Hegel's introduction of the doubled transition of Quality and Quantity in the genesis of Measure, the essay argues that the main point of the revisions is that Hegel views the whole determinateness of Being as self-­sublating its own externality, because in one determination of Being passing into another one, the first does not vanish;; instead, both remain within their relational unity. Hegel's new version of the genesis of Measure indicates an essentially qualitative appreciation of the quantitative methods of the empirical sciences. This accords with Hegel's growing acknowledgment in Berlin of the independent cognitive status of the natural sciences in regard to philosophy, and with his reassessment of the relation between intuition, representation and conceptual cognition of the objects of consciousness, to do justice to their real differences and their being for themselves within their own existence.

In their ideological analysis of his method of inquiry, revisionist historians have charged that John Dewey's work served as an apology for a class based industrial order. In short the claim is that Dewey's method failed to achieve critical independence from the political/economic order it sought to interpret. The strength of this claim against Dewey can only be determined by specific, piecemeal, and careful consideration of the logical features of his work. This article identifies ambiguities in Dewey's use of the concept 'communication' and shows how these prevented him from developing a clearer analysis of the relationship of profound conflicts of interest to the operation of methods of inquiry.

AbstractThe controversy around Bruce Gilley's article “The Case for Colonialism” has drawn global attention to a stream of revisionist claims and visions on the history of colonialism that has emerged in academia and in the media in recent years. Authors such as Nigel Biggar in the UK, Niall Ferguson in the USA, and Pieter Emmer in the Netherlands, have all published similarly revisionist claims about colonialism, arguing that postcolonial guilt and political correctness blind the majority of their colleagues to the positive side of the colonial project. Their argument chimes with wider societal trends, transforming the revisionist defenders of empire into heroes of a reinvigorated nationalist right within and beyond academia. The public influence attained by these approaches to colonialism requires historians to expose the deep methodological flaws, misreading of historical facts, and misrepresentations of prior scholarship that characterize the writings of this emerging revisionist trend. It is for this reason that the Editorial Committee of theInternational Review of Social History(IRSH) has decided to devote its first ever Virtual Special Issue to labour history's case against colonialism. This article, also an introduction to the Virtual Special Issue, sifts through the logical implications of the claims made by Gilley and like-minded scholars, providing both a contextualization and a rebuttal of their arguments. After assessing the long absence of colonial labour relations from the field of interest of labour historians and the pages of theIRSHitself, this article shows the centrality of a critique of colonialism to labour history's global turn in the 1990s. Using a selection of articles on colonial labour history from theIRSH's own archive, the article not only reconstructs “labour history's case against colonialism”, but also shows why labour history's critical insights into the nature of colonialism should be deepened and extended, not discarded.

By examining the evolution of Husserl’s philosophy from 1901 to 1914, this essay reveals that he possessed a more robust philosophy of gestures than has been accounted for. This study is executed in two stages. First, I explore how Husserl analyzed gestures through the lens of his semiotics in the 1901 Logical Investigations. Although he there presents a simple account of gestures as kinds of indicative signs, he does uncover rich insights about the role that gestures play in communication. Second, I examine how Husserl augmented his theory of gestures in his 1914 Revisions to the Sixth Logical Investigation. Husserl describes some gestures as signals, which are experienced as intersubjective communication, as having a temporally diachronic structure, and as possessing an obliging tendency. Husserl also contrasts gestures to language by showing how language habitually leaves traces on us.

ABSTRACTThe years 1886–91 saw Gabriel Fauré developing a new boldness and intensity in his composition of mélodies, prompted in part by the discovery of new poets (notably including Villiers de l'Isle Adam and Verlaine), and arguably also by his acquaintance with the excellent tenor Maurice Bagès. In particular, the songs of this period (spanning the opus groups 43–58) reveal an intriguingly exploratory approach to transposition, tessitura, timbre and texture. These songs are also remarkable for the seriousness and complexity of their pre- and post-publication revisions. The present study considers these revisions in relation to what is known of Fauré's habits and performing preferences, and in the light of his relationship with Bagès. It explores the practical and conceptual challenges the songs pose for the critical editor: how do we balance the logical principle of Fassung letzter Hand against the occasional musical compromise that appears to have ensued?

Unhealthy diets contribute to an increased risk of non-communicable diseases, which are the leading causes of deaths worldwide. Nutrition policies such as front-of-pack labeling have been developed and implemented globally in different countries to stimulate healthier diets. The Choices Programme, including the International Choices criteria, is an established tool to support the implementation of such policies. The Choices criteria were developed to define the healthier choices per product group, taking saturated fatty acids, trans fatty acids, sodium, sugars, energy, and fiber into account. To keep these criteria updated, they are periodically revised by an independent international scientific committee. This paper explains the most important changes resulting from revisions between 2010 and 2016 and describes the process of the latest revision, resulting in the International Choices criteria version 2019. Revisions were based on national and international nutrition and dietary recommendations, large food composition databases, and stakeholders’ feedback. Other nutrient profiling systems served as benchmarks. The product group classification was adapted and new criteria were determined in order to enhance global applicability and form a credible, intuitively logical system for users. These newly developed criteria will serve as an international standard for healthier products and provide a guiding framework for food and nutrition policies.

Il lavoro passa brevemente in rassegna i cambiamenti relativi all’attuale comprensione della coscienza e analizza la probabilità che l’obiezione di coscienza sia accettata nel contesto delle nuove percezioni del ruolo della coscienza e del relativismo individualistico o culturale supportato dall’individualismo espressivo contemporaneo. Le critiche e le conclusioni di Husserl sullo scetticismo vengono utilizzate come riferimento per la discussione di tali prospettive. Le incoerenze logiche individuate in entrambe le teorie relativiste mostrano i principali problemi insiti nella loro formulazione e applicazione. Se ne conclude che in una società basata sul relativismo morale sarebbe possibile respingere le ragioni dei singoli per l’obiezione di coscienza, invalidando i loro sforzi per salvaguardare la loro coscienza. Le revisioni della nozione di coscienza spesso invocano il rispetto per l’autonomia personale come salvaguardia dell’autogoverno da parte degli individui. Esaminando l’interpretazione prevalente del concetto di autonomia ne emergono la vaghezza e i limiti, ma ciononostante tale concetto è impiegato per mettere in discussione l’obiezione di coscienza. Dal momento che la possibilità di considerare molti punti di vista diversi è ciò che caratterizza la proposta dei relativisti contemporanei a sostegno delle loro opinioni, lo studio che presentiamo affronta anche il problema di come sia veramente relativo il relativismo contemporaneo. Il risultato di questa analisi intende fornire un approfondimento sui problemi incontrati dal rifiuto della coscienza in un contesto sociale relativistico. ---------- This work reviewed briefly changes in the current understanding of conscience and analysed the likelihood of conscientious objections being accepted in the context of these new perceptions of the role of conscience and of the individual or cultural relativism supported by contemporary expressive individualism. Husserl’s critiques and conclusions about skepticism were used as models to discuss these prospects. Logical inconsistencies identified in both relativistic theories exposed fundamental problems in their formulation and application. It was concluded that in a society based on moral relativism, it would be possible to rebut the reasons of individuals to object in conscience, rendering void their efforts to safeguard their conscience. Revisions of the notion of conscience often invoke respect for personal autonomy as a safeguard of self-government by individuals. An examination of a prevailing concept of autonomy showed it riddled with imprecisions and limitations, but nonetheless employed to question the validity of objections in conscience. Since the ability to accommodate many different perspectives is a characteristic proposed by contemporary relativists in support of their views, the study addressed also the question of how truly relative is, in fact, contemporary relativism. The result of these analyses provided added insights into the problems faced by conscientious refusals in a relativistic social context.

In this paper we consider the problem of `theory patching', in which we are given a domain theory, some of whose components are indicated to be possibly flawed, and a set of labeled training examples for the domain concept. The theory patching problem is to revise only the indicated components of the theory, such that the resulting theory correctly classifies all the training examples. Theory patching is thus a type of theory revision in which revisions are made to individual components of the theory. Our concern in this paper is to determine for which classes of logical domain theories the theory patching problem is tractable. We consider both propositional and first-order domain theories, and show that the theory patching problem is equivalent to that of determining what information contained in a theory is `stable' regardless of what revisions might be performed to the theory. We show that determining stability is tractable if the input theory satisfies two conditions: that revisions to each theory component have monotonic effects on the classification of examples, and that theory components act independently in the classification of examples in the theory. We also show how the concepts introduced can be used to determine the soundness and completeness of particular theory patching algorithms.

This research is motivated by educators who do not optimize learning media in teaching biology in high school, so this will have an impact on students' thinking skills at a concrete level. This study aims to develop learning and the application of multimedia to improve students' thinking power. This study uses the Borg and Gall development model through the stages of research and information gathering, planning, initial product development, initial field trials, main product revisions, main field trials, product revision operations, operational field trials, final product revisions, outreach, and implementation. Follow-up research combined with quasi-experimental research. This multimedia validation involves media experts, content experts, and linguists as well as students. The research instrument used was in the form of multiple-choice questions. The development results have been assessed by expert judgment. The developed multimedia learning can be used well at the high school level in Class XI IPA and is classified as very good. The results obtained for improving students' thinking skills in biology learning can be used in the learning process by obtaining the results of increasing students' thinking skills.

ABSTRACTThis paper challenges Wolfgang Giegerich’s sometimes sophisticated and at other times sophistic notion of absolute negative interiority. In contrast to his uroboric view of ‘psychology proper’, this author resists the successionist ideas of a post-Jungian, trans-human perspective and asserts the notion of an unassimilable and unsurmountable ‘not’. In this paper, the author revisions the traditional divide between Kant and Hegel, taking the ‘thing-in-itself’ as truly other than existing only for consciousness and arguing against privileging theunityof unity and difference. This paper entertains the alchemical ideas of a residue, acaput mortuum, and an archetypally cumbersome object, a real limit, which remains and unhinges the elevating process of spirit on its path to return to itself in absolute interiority. Rather, it acknowledges an abyss ‘behind the back of consciousness’, a non-reified living unconscious – a dark light, an absolute that is not absolute, but rather a gateway back to the beyond, at the root of imagination, wonder, and transformation.

Instructional materials are one of the essential parts to support the learning process becomes more exciting and meaningful. However, teachers do not yet give more attention to these parts, so that the learning process becomes uninteresting and boring. Therefore, this research aims to produce the instructional materials for the logical thinking of mathematics ability based on Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education for junior high school students for Grade 8, which is valid and practical. This research used a design research method with the type of development study conducted in two stages, namely preliminary design and formative evaluation, including self-evaluation, prototyping (expert reviews, one-to-one, and small groups) field tests the research conducted at junior high school. For research subjects, students of class VIII B of junior high school are 29 students. The techniques of data collection used are documentation, walkthrough, interviews, and test. The research data are quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. The results of data analysis known that this research produces the logical thinking of mathematics for instructional materials based on Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education on the content of linear equations of two variables that are valid, practical, and have potential effects. In this case, mathematics instructional materials in students' worksheets based on Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education have been content valid, constructive, and language from expert validation at the expert review stage. In contrast, the mathematics student worksheets based on Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education have been practically obtained from revisions results of one-to-one and small group. Furthermore, the prototype of instructional materials in the form of student worksheets has potential effects to improve the logical thinking of mathematics ability for students.

The appearance of Maoist dissidents in the USSR in the early 1960s and early 1970s was associated with the discontent of the general population with the socio-economic and political course of N. S. Khrushchev, and then L. I. Brezhnev. Criticism of the political course of the CPSU, primarily the decisions of the XX Congress, by the leaders of the Chinese and Albanian Communist Parties, provided a theoretical justification for protest sentiments for some oppositional citizens. From the point of view of the ideology of Marxism-Leninism prevailing in the USSR, Mao Zedong’s explanation of the social contradictions in the country looked quite logical: the ruling elite of the party nomenclature was represented by “revisionists” who rejected the ideas of V. I. Lenin and I. V. Stalin and expressed the socio-economic interests of the new ruling class, the bureaucracy. The rejection of the concept of the dictatorship of the proletariat in favor of the idea of the USSR as a “national state”, criticism of the cult of Stalin’s personality, as well as the promotion of strategies for “peaceful coexistence” of capitalist and socialist states, were perceived as elements of the “revisionist” ideology of the CPSU. In this situation, Mao Zedong was revered by Maoist dissidents as the bearer of an egalitarian communist alternative that denied the omnipotence and privileges of the Soviet nomenclature. The "cultural revolution" carried out on his initiative in the People's Republic of China was interpreted as a massive anti-bureaucratic popular movement aimed at democratizing socio-political life and destroying the privileges of officials. Analyzing the perception of Maoist ideas by their adherents in the USSR, the author speaks of “fictional Maoism” associated with both the idealization of the socio-economic and political system of the People’s Republic of China and the refraction of Maoist ideology through certain aspirations of Soviet people (in particular, the desire for de-bureaucratization and democratization of public life, the elimination of the privileges of the nomenclature, the redistribution of public benefits, and liquidation of collective farms). The article shows the approximate number of Maoist dissidents in the USSR, analyzes their ideological attitudes, social composition, tactics and strategy of struggle.

Moreover, it has a wide and profound impact on judicial credibility with complex mechanisms for shaping such impact. This commitment to rectify errors and uphold justice through criminal revision, while commendable, is overshadowed by a prevailing public perception that attributes such revisions to systemic deficiencies such as corruption, misuse of authority, and biased judicial decisions. This study delves into the intricate landscape of rectifying wrongful convictions by introducing the nuanced perspective of the Cocktail Party Effect (CPE), a sophisticated acoustic theory. The CPE's impact unfolds in three distinct stages—aptly termed "Screen-Mask-Polarize"—as the public navigates through the revision process. At its core, this study elucidates how signals emanate from wrongful conviction revisions to undergo automatic screening, influenced by the public's subjective preferences, thereby establishing a biased negative cognitive context. This cognitive bias, in turn, possesses the potential to erode public trust in the legal system and diminish confidence in the judiciary. Consequently, this comprehensive research offers insightful recommendations for judicial organs, the news media, and the public, complemented by two instrumental measures: the implementation of a state compensation system and the establishment of an accountability framework for wrongful convictions. The overarching goal of this study is to empower the public with the tools needed for a more objective and logical analysis of wrongful conviction revisions, fostering a nuanced understanding and trust in the criminal justice system.

Peter Gärdenfors proved a theorem purporting to show that it is impossible to adjoin to the AGM-postulates for belief-revision a principle of monotonicity for revisions. The principle of monotonicity in question is implied by the Ramsey test for conditionals. So Gärdenfors’ result has been interpreted as demonstrating that it is impossible to combine the Ramsey test for conditionals with the basic postulates for rational belief-revision. It is shown here that this interpretation of Gärdenfors’ result is unwarranted. A new diagnosis is offered of a methodological error made in the statement of the key principle of monotonicity. Crucial applications of this principle in Gärdenfors’ proof require one to regard as revisions what are really expansions. If monotonicity is stated only for genuine revisions, then Gärdenfors’ proof does not go through. Nor can it; for, when the monotonicity principle for revisions is correctly formulated, one can actually establish a contrary consistency result. This requires only a slight adjustment to the postulates of AGM-theory, in order to ensure that the three operations of expansion, contraction, and revision trichotomize the domain of theory-changes. It is further shown that being careful in this way about the proper domains of definition of the three operations of expansion, contraction, and revision also disposes of another, more direct, impossibility result, due to Arló-Costa, that targets the Ramsey test.

The study of the history of education in Western Canada presents educational historians, particularly those interested in reinterpretation and revision, with almost unlimited opportunities. The majority of the relatively small number of publications in this field, a few provincial histories and a small number of articles scattered through the periodicals, tend to glorify past educational achievements as logical steps in the inevitable march of the progress of schooling. Given the quickening interest in "new" interpretations of educational history which this journal has witnessed in the past five years it would appear that the history of education in Western Canada is open to revision. Writing on the historiography of education in the United States Patricia Rooke opened the way for subsequent articles by Donald Wilson and David Jones which examined the subject in Canadian context. 1 Wilson and Jones indicated the revisionist advances made in Ontario and there is evidence to suggest that a similar trend is under way in Western Canada.

This paper accomplishes two goals. First, the essay elucidates Husserl’s descriptions of meaning consciousness from the 1901 Logical Investigations. I examine Husserl’s observations about the three ways we can experience meaning and I discuss his conclusions about the structure of meaning intentions. Second, the paper explores how Husserl reworked that 1901 theory in his 1913/14 Revisions to the Sixth Investigation. I explore how Husserl transformed his descriptions of the three intentions involved in meaningful experience. By doing so, Husserl not only recognized intersubjective communication as the condition of possibility of linguistic meaning acts, but also transformed his account of the structure of both signitive and intuitive acts. In the conclusion, I cash out this analysis, by showing how, on the basis of these new insights, Husserl reconstructs his theory of fulfillment.

Contemporary Natural Philosophy is understood here as a project of the pursuit of the integrated description of reality distinguished by the precisely formulated criteria of objectivity, and by the assumption that the statements of this description can be assessed only as true or false according to clearly specified verification procedures established with the exclusive goal of the discrimination between these two logical values, but not with respect to any other norms or values established by the preferences of human collectives or by the individual choices. This distinction assumes only logical consistency, but not completeness. Completeness (i.e., the feasibility to assign true or false value to all possible statements) is desirable, but may be impossible. This paper is not intended as a comprehensive program for the development of the Contemporary Natural Philosophy but rather as a preparation for such program advocating some necessary revisions and extensions of the methodology currently considered as the scientific method. This is the actual focus of the paper and the reason for the reference to Baconian idola mentis. Francis Bacon wrote in Novum Organum about the fallacies obstructing progress of science. The present paper is an attempt to remove obstacles for the Contemporary Natural Philosophy project to which we have assigned the names of the Idols of the Number, the Idols of the Common Sense, and the Idols of the Elephant.

The aim of the article is to review the contemporary scholar discussions which take place in the Russian and foreign historiography about the “turning point” in the Second World War. The use of the “turning point” term by scholars was inevitably linked to the question about the relative con - tribution made by the countries of the “Grand Alliance” to the victory over the “Axis Powers”. Thus, it was logical that after 1945, during the rise of the Cold War, the academic and media discussions about the “turning point” had not only a historiographical but also political significance. Such disputes continue nowadays. This article analyses one of the recent revisionist conceptions about the “turning point” proposed by the British historian Ph. O’Brien. He tried to revise the widely held thesis that the huge land battles at the Soviet-German front were crucial to the outcome of the whole war. A critical evaluation of O’Brien’s conception is fruitful to the further scholar research on the topic as well as to the understanding of the historiographical process itself.

Since Jacqueline Rose published The Case of Peter Pan in 1984, scholars in the field of children's literature have taken up a rhetorical stance which treats child readers as colonised, and children's books as a colonising site. This article takes issue with Rose's rhetoric of colonisation and its deployment by scholars, arguing that it is tainted by logical and ethical flaws. Rather, children's literature can be a site of decolonisation which revisions the hierarchies of value promoted through colonisation and its aftermath by adopting what Bill Ashcroft refers to as tactics of interpolation. To illustrate how decolonising strategies work in children's texts, the article considers several alphabet books by Indigenous author-illustrators from Canada and Australia, arguing that these texts for very young children interpolate colonial discourses by valorising minority languages and by attributing to English words meanings produced within Indigenous cultures.

Enhancing women’s rights is a crucial matter globally and has been addressed in various legal documents. Vietnam has actively collaborated with the international community to bolster the safeguarding of women’s rights within its criminal justice framework. The 2015 Criminal Code of Vietnam underwent significant revisions to ensure the well-being and rights of women. However, certain provisions still require improvement to ensure comprehensive protection. This article thoroughly examines the shortcomings in safeguarding women’s rights within Vietnam’s criminal law system and proposes measures to enhance the relevant provisions in the 2015 Criminal Code. By refining and expanding regulations, providing stronger support and protection for victims, improving monitoring mechanisms, and ensuring effective enforcement, we can bolster the protection of women’s rights in the 2015 Criminal Code. A robust and logical legal system is essential for women to attain maximum rights and safety within society.

The Outcome Based Performance Measures are widely used to evaluate and accredit organizations providing services to persons with disabilities. This study evaluated the interrater reliability, levels of difficulty for items, and factor groupings of this measure with 4–8 Nevadans with mental retardation. Results supported the measure's reliability and most of the items' levels of difficulty. Factor analysis yielded seven factors with item loadings that varied moderately from prior reports, tending to coincide with the original measure's logically-based groupings. Revisions to the measure are suggested.

Collecting information is conducted by surveys to the company, interviews with several employees in the company, and examining documents and procedures used by PT Rekayasa Engineering. The database design is created using lifecycle methodology, namely: conceptual design, logical design, and physical design. The result of this research is a database system which is designed and can be used to process operational procedures of the company and to record the working time and project needed by the PT Rekayasa Engineering. Furthermore, this research also produces a prototype application that can be used as a working model for the system. Using the new database system and the application, information needed by the company is fulfilled. Thus, it allows the company to work more effectively and efficiently.

A year ago it was still possible to review events within the regional confines of Transcaucasia. The three republics constituted a logical sub-unit of the Soviet Union. Subsequent events, however, no longer permit such a tidy delineation. A revolution is taking place: the Raspad, or Great Collapse, of which the dissolution of the USSR was but the beginning of a major political reshufflement throughout Eurasia, a continuing process that is still playing itself out in the entire Caucasian region. The demise of the trans-continental Soviet empire has left the three Transcaucasian successor states separated by international borders from the Russian Federation, Iran, and Turkey as well as from one another. Nevertheless, the dynamics of ethnic-fueled fragmentation, which initially helped bring down the power of Moscow, continues to gnaw away in defiance of any artificial frontiers, most of which cut through ethnic communities. Revisionist ethnic activities thrive on either sides of frontiers, especially those shared by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Iran, and the Russian Federation, thereby forcing one to consider the whole of Caucasia as the proper area of evaluation for the crucial year 1991-2. North and south of the mountainous divide, ethnic-driven politics proves all too clearly that the energies of the Raspad are anything but spent.

Abstract When they first reached an American readership, Jane Austen’s novels enjoyed mixed reactions among intellectuals. The main charge levelled against Jane Austen’s fiction was that it conflicted with the democratic principles American society was based on. The next century brought about an explosion in the attention paid to Jane Austen, whether via adaptations, spinoffs, biopics, musicals, detective fiction, scholarly texts, societies or even websites. Most of these creative extensions of Jane Austen’s ideas (and her personality) seem to embrace contemporary American values and sensibilities and therefore, logically, make attempts at revising some of the less palatable aspects of the English society of the Regency era. This paper focuses on two prime examples of such a revisionist approach to Jane Austen’s most classconscious novel, Emma, in Douglas McGrath’s eponymous 1996 film adaptation and in Clueless, Amy Heckerling’s 1995 satirical film based on the same novel.

B a c k g r o u n d . Kyiv philosophical school of the second half of the 20th century was presented, first of all, by its creators in the 1960s, namely graduates of the Faculty of Philosophy of the said university and employees of the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, headed by its director in 1962–1968, Academician of this Academy of Sciences P. Kopnin. It was under his leadership this school began and made a major contribution to the professional but censored revaluation and destruction of Marxism-Leninism in the Ukrainian SSR. Throughout the 1940s – 1980s, namely since the end of Stalinism to the end of Gorbachev's "perestroika" and the collapse of the USSR, three generations of the creators of this school critically rethought and destructured the Stalinist and other official paradigms of Marxism-Leninism. This problem in their scholarly works and courses of lectures on philosophical subjects was solved mainly by P. Kopnin's students and apologists, his colleagues at the institute and academicians of the said Academy S. Krymskyi, M. Popovych and M. Honcharenko, as well as their colleagues and students, for example A. Yermolenko, Y. Bystrycky, A. Loy, V. Malakhov and S. Proleiev. The purpose of our article is to assess the contribution of the Kyiv philosophical school, namely graduates and professors of the Faculty of Philosophy of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University to the destruction of Marxist-Leninist philosophy both in the said university and in philosophical education, science and culture of the Ukrainian SSR since the second half of the 1960s till the end of the 1970s. M e t h o d s . To study this problem, classical and modern methods of both philosophical and historical and philosophical analysis and other humanities were used. In addition to such principles of scientific knowledge as historicism, objectivity and consistency, the author also used historical and logical general methods. Together with the method of biographical analysis of the figures of the said school and the method of sociocultural analysis of the educational, scientific and socio-political processes in the second half of the 20th century in the Ukrainian SSR and the world, methods of comparative historical and structural and functional analysis of the Ukrainian philosophical progress of that time were also used. R e s u l t s . Four main conditional stages of the process of destruction and crisis of the official paradigms of Marxism-Leninism in the Ukrainian SSR, carried out by the creators of the Kyiv philosophical school of the second half of the 20th century, are classified in our preliminary study of this topic in (Vdovychenko, 2023). In that article we systematically examined the first two of these stages for the first time: 1) the initial stage or origins of the critical revision of Stalin's version of Marxism-Leninism (late 1940s – 1950s); 2) the second stage or emergence of a systematic censored critical reassessment of this version and its official successors in the USSR from the Khrushchev "thaw" to the beginning of the "stagnation" (late 1950s – mid 1960s). This article begins the study of the two final stages of this process, namely the third one or the period of public criticism and destruction of a number of official versions of Marxism-Leninism by the sixties philosophers of the Ukrainian SSR (mid-1960s – mid-1980s). It was established that this period was the time of active involvement and, in fact, real integration of philosophical education, science and culture of the Ukrainian SSR into the European and world Postmodern philosophical process, thanks mainly to P. Kopnin and the entire Kyiv philosophical circle. C o n c l u s i o n s . On the basis of rare publications by the participants of the events and the newest projects from the Ukrainian oral history of philosophy, the contribution of the three first generations of the Kyiv philosophical school of the second half of the 20th century to the neo- Marxist and already post-Marxist destruction of Marxism-Leninism during the era of "stagnation" has been systematically revealed for the first time. It was established, that the participation of P. Kopnin and a number of his colleagues from the Ukrainian SSR both in the World Philosophical Congresses since the late 1950s till the mid-1970s, primarily from the XII one in Venice (1958) to the XV in Varna (1973), as well as in many others international forums of these decades, led to serious ideological shifts in Ukrainian philosophy. This Europeanization of it led to a fruitful considering and elaboration by the Kyiv philosophical circle of that time ideas of neo-Marxist revisionism in the context of studies on German classical philosophy and modern European philosophy under the influence of the contemporary "linguistic turn" and "existential neo-Hegelianism". Relying on the neo-Marxist reassessment of Stalinism, the creators of the mentioned school, professors of the Faculty of Philosophy of T. G. Shevchenko Kyiv State University, first of all P. Kopnin and V. Shynkaruk, as it deans, introduced the newest standards of really Europeanized learning of a wide range of philosophical disciplines, in particular the history of foreign Modern and Postmodern philosophy.

This paper continues the analysis presented in an earlier paper of the author entitled “Status and Directions for ‘Filipino Philosophy’ in Zialcita, Timbreza, Quito, Abulad, Mabaquiao, Gripaldo and Co,” in which sixteen discourses of Filipino philosophy were catalogued, namely: Filipino philosophy as 1) grassroots/folk philosophy; 2) lecture on scholasticism/Thomism; 3) lecture on other foreign systems; 4) critical philosophy as non- academic discourse; 5)logical analysis; 6) phenomenology/existentialism/hermeneutics; 7) critical philosophy as an academic method; 8) appropriation of foreign theories; 9) appropriation of folk philosophy; 10) philosophizing with the use of the Filipino language; 11) textual exposition of foreign systems; 12) revisionist writing; 13) interpretation of Filipino worldview; 14) research on Filipino values and ethics; 15) identification of the presuppositions and implications of the Filipino worldview; and 16) study on the Filipino philosophical luminaries. By eliminating the first four discourses due to their non-textual and non-academic nature, this paper focused on the remaining twelve discourses. By using a rubric that looked into the twelve discourses “Filipinoness,” cognitive levels, inherent emotional energies, impacts, and sustainabilities, this paper identified which among these discourses hold the greatest developmental potentials. This paper concludes by enjoining the Filipino philosophers and writers/scholars of philosophy to invest their limited resources, time, energy and other capitals to the discourses with the greatest developmental potentials.

The purpose of this report is to present the necessity of proceeding to new reforms in bank regulation and to increase the stability and risk sensitivity of the capital base under applying the Standardised Credit Risk Assessment Approach (SCRA) in banks. The dynamics in the bank regulation and supervision of credit risk assessment approaches are explored. In the paper, a thorough theoretical-methodological and historical-logical analysis was made of the evolution of the development and chronology of the global regulatory frameworks for banks - Basel 1, Basel 2 and Basel 3. The contemporary projections and challenges for the banks' management under the new regulatory and institutional changes are presented. The SCRA is a positive asset in bank capital regulation in contemporary banking. The revisions to the regulatory framework – Basel 3 by is a long continuous process influenced by numerous economic, social and political factors. The preparation of the Bulgarian banking system for a new reform of financial regulation is analyzed. The need for adoption of a new risk-based approach for capital assessment and the importance of transparency in bank financial reporting is proved.

Visual analytics facilitates the creation of knowledge to interpret trends and relationships for better decision making. However, it has not being used widely for the understanding of software systems and the change process that takes place during their development and maintenance. This occurs despite the need of project managers and developers to analyze their systems to calculate the complexity, cohesion, direct, indirect and logical coupling, detect clones, defects and bad smells, and the comparison of individual revisions. This research considers the design of an extensible and scalable architecture to incorporate new and existing methods to retrieve source code from different versioning systems, to carry out the analysis of programs in different languages, to perform the calculation of software metrics and to present the results using visual representations, incorporated as Eclipse and Visual Studio extensions. Consequently, the aim of this work is to design a visual analytics architecture for the analysis and understanding of systems in different languages and its main contributions are the specification of the design and requirements of such architecture, taking as base the lessons learned in Maleku (A. González-Torres et al., 2016).

This study evaluated elementary school EFL textbooks (We Can Series) from the perspectives of male and female teachers in Saudi Arabia. A quantitative approach was used, with data collected through a questionnaire. The questionnaire, adopted from Alharbi (2017), consisted of 49 items arranged into five textbook evaluation criteria: layout and design, textbook objectives, language methods and activities, language skills, and general evaluation. The questionnaire was administered online using Google Forms to 51 primary school teachers. The results of the study revealed that the primary-stage textbooks are efficient in terms of layout and design. The objectives are stated and highlighted in each section, all language skills are included, there are an appropriate number of activities and exercises, and there are instructions beside each part of the content. However, the study also found that the book's objectives, exercises, skills, and teaching methods are inappropriate for learners' needs at these levels; the number of lessons allocated each week is insufficient for the book's content; there is no logical progression between topics; and supplemental materials such as test models are not available. Additionally, there was a lack of cohesion and sequencing between textbooks in the "We Can Series." In light of these results, the researcher suggested some recommendations for addressing the drawbacks of the EFL primary school textbooks. These recommendations include: revising the objectives and exercises to better align with learners' needs; increasing the number of lessons allocated each week; providing a logical progression between topics; and developing supplemental materials such as test models. The study concludes that the We Can Series has the potential to be an effective EFL textbook series, but that some revisions are necessary to address the identified drawbacks. The recommendations made by the researcher should be considered by the publishers of the We Can Series in order to improve the textbooks and make them more suitable for use in Saudi Arabian elementary schools.

There is controversy regarding the nature and degree of intellectual and memory deficits in chronic Lyme disease. In this study, 81 participants with rigorously diagnosed chronic Lyme disease were administered the newest revisions of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-III) and Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS-III), and compared to 39 nonpatients. On the WAIS-III, Lyme disease participants had poorer Full Scale and Performance IQ's. At the subtest level, differences were restricted to Information and the Processing Speed subtests. On the WMS-III, Lyme disease participants performed more poorly on Auditory Immediate, Immediate, Auditory Delayed, Auditory Recognition Delayed, and General Memory indices. Among WMS-III subtests, however, differences were restricted to Logical Memory (immediate and delayed) and Family Pictures (delayed only), a Visual Memory subtest. Discriminant analyses suggest deficits in chronic Lyme are best characterized as a combination of memory difficulty and diminished processing speed. Deficits were modest, between one-third and two-thirds of a standard deviation, consistent with earlier studies. Depression severity had a weak relationship to processing speed, but little other association to test performance. Deficits in chronic Lyme disease are consistent with a subtle neuropathological process affecting multiple performance tasks, although further work is needed to definitively rule out nonspecific illness effects. Sir Geoffrey Elton has breathed new life into the putrefying corpse of Elizabethan parliamentary history. In conjunction with others, notably Michael Graves, Norman Jones, and David Dean, he has succeeded in demolishing the standard interpretation of high politics, spirited opposition, and principled conflict perfected by Sir John Neale. Elton's analysis of the early Elizabethan Parliaments provides, for the first time, the detailed revisionist argument, one capable in many respects, moreover, of logical extension over the remainder of the reign and buttressed by a series of general overviews. For all the necessary emphasis on cooperation, bill procedure, and “business as usual,” Elton is well aware that politics intruded on legislative affairs, and at no time was this more obvious than during the troubled 1566 session. Neale had devoted forty-seven printed pages to his interpretation of constitutional crisis during these three months. Elton provides a far briefer, more taut, coverage but nonetheless the session figures very prominently in his portrayal of “great affairs.” It is not the intention of this article to dispute Elton's general interpretation of a political crisis orchestrated in good measure by privy councillors intent on exerting pressure on the queen to settle the succession issue. That portrayal is sensible and, in its broad outlines, generally supported by the known evidence. Nevertheless, in his desire to purge Neale's interpretations from the corpus of Elizabethan parliamentary history, Sir Geoffrey has, in a number of instances, permitted his arguments and beliefs to outrun his evidence. These occasions are important for the understanding of events and themes within Parliament.

The debate over the labour bureaucracy has changed considerably since Robert Michels first argued that oligarchy was inevitable whenever humans organized. Recent work has tended to play down the notion of the labour bureaucracy as a body distinct from, and often in opposition to, the rank and file. Indeed, in the pages of this journal, Jonathan Zeitlin has maintained that “no clear line can be drawn between trade union officials and the ‘rank and file’”. Carrying this argument to its logical conclusion Zeitlin has urged that the “‘rank and filist’ paradigm is fundamentally unsatisfactory and should be abandoned rather than further refined”. Though others would not push the revisionist argument this far, the general tendency has been to agree that the earlier generalizations were over-blown and that it is difficult to distinguish between bureaucrats and members. Many of Zeitlin's earlier opponents now appear to be nearly indistinguishable from him, and few argue that the interests of the labour leadership differ in any important degree from those of the rank and file. I believe, however, that the reports of the demise of the labour bureaucrat have been somewhat exaggerated. This paper will argue that though the argument needs to be re-formulated, the paradigm of the labour bureaucracy remains a useful one. Such a reformulation must shift the focus from differences of ideology separating the leaders from the members and instead must turn to an analysis of the power relationship between the two. This paper will trace the recent twists and turns in the debate and will suggest ways in which it is possible to view the labour bureaucracy as a distinct layer of the union movement.

Purpose A sentinel event is an unexpected occurrence resulting in death or serious physical or psychological injury or the risk thereof. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influencing factors of sentinel events in the emergency department of a military hospital in Tehran to find out some of the effective solutions. Design/methodology/approach In this qualitative study with content analysis approach, 20 hospital healthcare personnel participated as participants from the fields of medicine and nursing. Purposive random sampling and semi-structured interviews were used for data collection. Atlas.ti software version 5.2 was used for data analysis. Findings Four themes and 32 subthemes were identified by numerous revisions and combining the codes. The four main themes of sentinel events were: causes, incidence barriers, cause prevention solutions, and barriers’ improvement solutions. Moreover, these main factors were related to these issues: staff and patients’ education, communication, assessment, patients and their companions, employee rights, leadership, care continuum, human factors, physical environment, information management and medication use. Some solutions were also suggested according to these factors and a policy was recommended. Practical implications Hospital managers and authorities should try to find the main causes of sentinel events by periodical analysis to find ways to prevent them in the future, using logical and reasonable solutions. Originality/value This study confirms that strategies to reduce the sentinel events in emergency departments should focus on empowerment of all staff.

The phenomenon of enhancing athletic performance through the consumption of various substances has a long history, and the issue of doping has persisted as an unending battle that plagues the global sports community. In response, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was established in 1999, and after four revisions, the 2021 version of the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC) was finally enacted and implemented. This led to the formation of an anti-doping system led by WADA and centered on the WADC. The book Research on Doping Violations and Sanctions uncovers the inherent logical structure of the anti-doping system, Which is the first monograph on doping in China. Apart from discussing the anti-doping system at the substantive law level, the book also delves into diversified standards of proof and the protection of athletes' procedural rights at the procedural law level. To prevent the abuse of doping in sports, safeguard athletes' physical and mental health, and maintain fair competition, China has established a regulatory framework for anti-doping through a series of normative legal documents, including laws, administrative regulations, departmental rules, and judicial interpretations. Meanwhile, to ensure alignment with international anti-doping standards, countries need to continuously strengthen their domestic anti-doping legislation in accordance with the WADC. On November 20, 2024, the General Administration of Sport of China officially released a revised version of the Anti-Doping Rules, marking significant changes from the 2020 edition. This move fully demonstrates China's high regard for and continuous improvement in anti-doping efforts.

Unidimensionality is a fundamental yet often overlooked prerequisite for measurement. In the context of psychological measurement, the central question is whether a set of items can be logically reduced to a single latent factor. This study advocates for the application of state-trace analysis, an underutilized method from mathematical psychology, as a decisive tool to address this question. State-trace analysis provides a simple, general, and rigorous criterion for unidimensionality: monotonicity between item pairs. Identifying items within a factor that violate this criterion is straightforward, offering a practical approach to evaluating unidimensionality. This paper demonstrates the utility of state-trace analysis through exemplary applications within the framework of the five-factor model, analyzing data from the International Personality Item Pool-NEO-120 (N = 618, 000) and the NEO Personality Inventory–Revised (N1 = 857, N2 = 500). The findings reveal that maintaining the five-factor model requires significant revisions to numerous items, highlighting the potential of state-trace analysis to enhance personality measurement beyond existing methodologies. The paper concludes by discussing strategies to promote broader adoption of this method and how future designs in personality research can be tailored to effectively incorporate state-trace analysis.
