Повний текст джерелаThis thesis is a study of the construction of a national imagination by the French language during the long 19th century (1789-1920), both from a linguistic perspective, through the emerging concept of a national language, and from a stylistic point of view, through the rise of the French style as a category. The hypothesis defended here is that the national language, in France, is less the product of a linguistic policy than a discursive construct elaborated by grammar books between the French Revolution and the Third Republic. 19th century grammarians decided that it was the duty of literature to illustrate the national language, at a time when grammar and literature were indissociable. In fact, that literature should be influenced by reflections in which language and nation are associated is inevitable: writers, especially at the end of the century, approached style according to the notion of “Frenchness”, which is at once political, ideological, and imaginary. Such a notion asserted the existence of a French style, as opposed to non-French styles that failed to abide by the alleged tradition of the so-called genius of the French language. This thesis first explores the linguistic imagination that influenced the national language in the grammar books of the 19th century. It then moves on to the writers’ use of the imaginary notions related to a specifically French style. Last but not least, it examines the style of some of the authors who wrote during the Third Republic, and seeks to identify what was perceived as a specifically French style (as in the works of Renan, Daudet, Barrès, Maurras or France), and what was perceived as an antinational style (as in the works of Goncourt, Louÿs, Huysmans, Mallarmé, Valéry, Suarès, Péguy, Fargue, Claudel, Gide, Proust or Giraudoux)

Повний текст джерелаThe Dream in the Eighteenth Century or the Testing of the Self This thesis investigates the discourse about dreams in philosophy of mind of the Enlightenment to Diderot, after an initial examination of the sources of Cartesianism. Next it proceeds to study the dream frame narratives produced in the 1730-1790 period.First, it shows that the dream is increasingly studied as an episode in the life of the mind; dreams pervade the wake, soon unfolding the operations of our mind, memory and imagination. They involve world and matter, and become a model reflecting all aspects of the mind, finally turning into a model of scientific discovery in Denis Diderot’s writings. Secondly, we turn to literary dreams as frame narratives, short flippant texts, significantly grouped together in series by Argens or by Mercier. This form favours the exploration of the dark confines of the self, in the love pilgrimage, in satirical or philosophical dreams : triumph of hedonism, Oceanic Feeling, scopic drive, drive towards death and self destruction

Повний текст джерелаIn most cases, studies devoted to the representation of marriage in narrative texts of the 16th century aim to link the image of the marriage bond as elaborated in the narratives to the controversies of the time. In order to show how the theme of marriage has played a part in the development of the narrative genre in the French Renaissance, we have decided to combine such an approach, which is rather based on the history of ideas, with an analysis of literary styles. We have conducted our survey on a set of twelve prose narrative fictions written in French between 1515 and 1559. Marriage was then at the heart of many theological-political controversies and married life started to be seen in a new light. Basing our work on historical contextualization, we have intertwined a thematic approach with a reflection on narrative poetics so as to study the plot structure and characterization as well as the didactic and hermeneutic systems of the texts. Comparing these narratives with other literary works – contemporary or prior, French or foreign – has enabled us to highlight a renewal of the narrative matter related to marriage themes during that period. The emphasis put on certain matrimonial situations and the related specific challenges in those days created favourable grounds for the advent of innovative narrative structures. Marriage stories have particularly contributed to orienting short stories towards the style of tragic stories and to giving birth to original novelistic forms in which the early stirrings of the style of the sentimental novel can be seen
Depretto, Laure. "L'histoire du jour : récit factuel et écriture épistolaire dans la "Correspondance" de Sévigné." Paris 8, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PA083915.
Повний текст джерелаThe "Correspondence" of Sévigné is mainly read today through the model of the loveletter, as an exchange of intimate feelings between a mother and her daughter. If critics were numerous to underline the narrative talent of the "spiritual marchioness", there is not yet any overall study on Sévigné's daily stories. To fill this gap, this thesis re-installs this correspondence within the various forms of news practiced at the time, in order to analyse the aspects of the factual account in epistolary communication. The first part establishes the map of news exchange within Sévigné's social sphere and studies the circulation of information, the relationships between writing and orality, print and manuscript, rumors and fact-checking. News is found, selected and shaped depending on Sévigné's intended epistolary uses. The second part sets out to build a typology of the relationships between letter and narrative and examines the formal guidelines Sévigné resorts to for the framing of events (fait divers, relation, chronique, fiction, etc. ). Through the close reading of Sévigné letters, compared with other versions recouting the same event, we explore the narrative and hermeneutic gestures which govern the construction of a plot. Far from limiting itself to a monographic horizon, this thesis about the narrative of current events in Sévigné's "Correspondence" intends to contribute to the history of news stories writing

Повний текст джерелаAt the beginning of the twentieth century, embedded narrative emerged as a concept, thanks to the research that Russian formalists had carried out on a collection of short stories. But the category came into bloom only in the 1960s, under Todorov and Genette's pens. At that time though, the subject was broached rather than dealt with in depth. No definition based on consensus ever arose from narratology; and the seamless persistence of this narrative technique, dating back to Ancient India, has never been well accounted for. Embedded narrative has always been a critical myth rather than a subject to be studied. The aim of this dissertation is to start where the first tentative conceptualization stopped: the feeling that some texts do contain extra narratives. Inserted stories can be enhanced through typography layouts, changes of narratee, time-related alterations, or by sets of specific markings. Embedding might then mean emphasizing rather than inserting. Is it then legitimate to comment on 'embedded narratives' as such? Was there ever a consistent technique to emphasize narratives? By raising these issues, this dissertation aims at getting to the root of the notion, and addresses the topic by drawing on a large number of short stories published between 1800 and 1890. For during the nineteenth century short stories collections came for the first time closer to independent fiction, precisely to short story. Analyzing this rapprochement will enable us to discover how the very notion of 'embedded narrative’ could come up
Boutet, Anne. "Les recueils français de nouvelles du XVIe siècle, laboratoires des romans comiques." Thesis, Tours, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017TOUR2019/document.
Повний текст джерелаRead short stories from XVIth french century, it’s like reading fancy stories or recreations, far away from Rabelais’books. However, this unsettled literature has a « grande variété de formes narratives qui témoignent de [s]a souplesse et de [s]a plasticité […], laboratoire des expériences romanesques à venir » (D. Souiller, La nouvelle en Europe de Boccace à Sade). It’s difficult, indeed, to give a set generic identity at these texts. Without contemporary arts of poetry, modern critics suggest debatable definitions. Too restrictive or partial, those definitions end up at a compromise : to give main characteristics (brevity, moral, good trick, good word, « realism », etc.) without make a clear distinction with close narrative forms (« discours bigarrés », « histoires tagiques »). Yet, there is another path : take the point of view of « romans comiques »’ authors in order to take advantage of a writing fed from Renaissance’s storytellers and of a reading closer with XVIth century’s readers, that is to say refine modern studies in order to draw up the first list of reliable and operating generic criteria

Повний текст джерелаThere is a paradox of prolepsis : because it tells in advance an event of the story, it runs the risk of ruining suspense ; because it only evokes this event allusively, it may, on the contrary, help to create suspense. The use of anticipation has always been at the core of the debate on narrative tension. Through the study of ancient and classical poetics and rhetorics, brought in comparison with contemporary theories, this work seeks to retrace the long history of a highly controversial narrative device.Reading the novels of the Ancien Régime, one may see this paradox at work. At the dawn of the seventeenth-century, prolepses belong, along with in medias res openings, to the repertoire of artificial contrivances used in the building of huge novelistic machines, as they keep the reader’s mind suspended ; in the first half of the following century, the Memoir-Novel uses the very same device to establish a new manner of writing : prolepses become the sign of an unsophisticated prose, attuned to the effusions of the heart. At stake here is the reader’s progressive apprehension of the text and the way he interprets the narratorial voice. Narratological tools are re-examined and refined so as to take into consideration the act of reading and its dynamics ; elements of enunciative linguistics are used for the study of small textual units and subtle narrative manipulations. Through this overview of one hundred and fifty years of prose fiction, we trace the different manners in which expectations are aroused, usually fulfilled, and exceptionally frustrated

Повний текст джерелаIn this doctoral dissertation, we are studying a selection of both Mexican and French literary works related to the historic events of the Second French Intervention in Mexico (1862-1867) and of the Second Mexican Empire (1864-1867). This body of works has been published between the XIXth and the XXIth century and has been selected, both because their poetic and political thoughts are emblematic of this period and because they have contributed to the construction of a Mexican cultural and identity iconography. We have decided to select the fiction and theatrical genres, to carry out a comparative and diachronic analysis. The decision of which literary works and authors to include has been made based on how both the French Intervention and the way it has been depicted in literature, have been dealt with in particular in each literary work and each author we considered to studied. The studied novels belong to the sub-genre of serialized fiction in the XIXth century with, on the French side, Benito Vázquez (1869) by Lucien Biart and Doña Flor (1877) by Gustave Aimard and, on the Mexican side, Clemencia (1869) by Manuel Altamirano and El Cerro de las Campanas (1868) by Juan Mateos. As far as theatre plays are concerned, we have carried out a comparative study of both Corona de Sombra (1943) by Rodolfo Usigli and Charlotte et Maximilien (1945) by Maurice Rostand. We have completed our analysis with a complementary study of El Tuerto es Rey (1970) by Carlos Fuentes. Regarding more contemporaneous historic and literary creations, we chose to include Noticias del Imperio (1987) by Fernando del Paso and Yo, el francés by Jean Meyer (2002). This corpus allows to carry out a comparative, linguistic, semiotic and literary analysis of afore-mentioned works. Such analysis calls for a thorough reflection on the interpretation of conflict, an armed and political conflict which influenced both History and Mexican and French literary productions

Повний текст джерелаDivorce as an object of literary study, the proposal may surprise. The distinctiveness of fields and areas of research requires that a choice be made to study the question from a historical, political, legal, social or moral point of view. Literature, however, is never even considered. In 1884, the rehabilitation of divorce in French legislation was the result of an unusual combination of politics and literature. From the editorials and columns of the newspapers, in essays and in books, the narration of matrimonial misfortunes of men and women caught strangled by the law, wrestling against a civil inevitability that constrains their private and conjugal life, clamors for un-marriage. While the ties between literature and the claims for legal disunion are secular, linked in the works of George Sand, the battle of pens fighting against the indissolubility of marriage will significantly change the thinking of engaged literature and encourage a reasoning on the role of the writer, his relation to the law, and to demonstrate the power of literature on morals and the drafting of legislation. As a valuable analytical tool to understand the intellectual, literary and narrative aspects of the beginnings of the Third Republic, the un-marriage topic can be used to study the representation of conjugality in the French narrative of the end of the 19th century. Henceforth legal, divorce in fact transforms the imagination of literature on private morals and inaugurates new narrative situations: the encounter with the former husband, the jealousy of the new husband, the second wedding night, and the sexual past of the woman, all soon become common practice in the literary genre. The promulgation of divorce nevertheless rudely tests French narrative customs: by offering a solution to stories of adultery, divorce breaks a secular narrative model, and obliges literature to rethink its fatalities and its forms

Повний текст джерелаThe aim of the present thesis is the elaboration of a poetics of ironic discourse in short stories and short story collections of the 19th c. , a poetics also applicable to any literary text in general. Our research is based on a corpus of classic short stories from Anglophone (T. Hardy, H. Melville, E. A. Poe), french (G. De Maupassant, P. Merimée, A. De Villiers de l'Isle Adam) and Greek (A. Papadiamantis, G. Vizyenos) literature
Bataillé, Mathilde. "Du roman au texte bref : l'appréhension du temps dans l'oeuvre de Michel Tournier." Angers, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013ANGE0061.
Повний текст джерелаIn his essays and during interviews, Michel Tournier often contrasts two different ways of apprehending time by borrowing the concepts “primary” and “secondary” from characterology. For Tournier, primary character types neither regret the past nor worry about the future and live in the present. Secondary character types, on the other hand, keep one foot in the past and fear the unknown. Tournier asserts that these two perceptions of time can be found in literature, in the conception of time that emerges when reading the texts of an author as well as in his/her aesthetic implementation. This vision of time – which presupposes specifying the different meanings of the word in the author’s work – forms the substance of this dissertation. The ypothesis advanced is that the work of Tournier undergoes an evolution in the perception of time, revealing the author as a secondary character type who aspires to become an ideal primary type. Moreover, as the work of Tournier progresses from major mythological novels -- Vendredi ou les limbes du Pacifique (1967), Le Roi des Aulnes (1970), Les Météores (1975) – towards shorter formats – tales and short stories (Le Coq de bruyère, 1978 ; Le Médianoche amoureux, 1989), short novels (Gaspard, Melchior et Balthazar, 1980), collections of short non-fictional texts (Petites proses, 1986, Célébrations, 1999, Journal extime, 2002) –, this evolution in genre and in aesthetic approach espouses a change in perception. In Tournier’s writing, one can detect a configuration of time thatdiffers according to the genre in question. By adopting an approach that is both chronological and generic, this dissertation demonstrates the existence of several different periods in Tournier’s work, despite an overall unity based upon the evocation of a similar imagery

Повний текст джерелаIn the XIXth century, the perception of madness goes through significant evolutions : therapeutic methods are determined, an architectural plan is settled, specialists of madness are appointed, a law is promulgated. The asylum, place of madness, inevitably undergoes these evolutions, and becomes culture free scenes : people visit it, the novelists invest it. At the crossroad of collective imagination and the works of the alienists, the explorations of the literature in the asylum multiply. Through a varied corpus, this thesis deals with the question of novelists developing a poetical representation of the asylum between 1870 and 1914. It will expound how this poetics takes shape in the common sense and in the literary work, from a cultural and scientific substratum which personal requirements and work of scriptural construction will modify as novels come out. Thus, the aesthetics of the asylum?s landscape is drawing out of the descriptions of the place, the symbols attached to it, and the representation of those who live in it, but also of those who work there. A typology of the Asylum shows itself then, defined by a series of paradigms, as well as a taxonomy of the madman and the alienist, and their respective speeches. A writing of the asylum appears through the stylistic and rhetoric study of these elements, and the poetics arise from the tension between clichés and the singularity of the writing. The ?asylum? will thus be ?Asylum? in the novels
Dereu, Mireille. "Le style Léon Bloy : une figuration rhétorique de la dysphorie." Nancy 2, 1986. http://www.theses.fr/1986NAN21020.
Повний текст джерелаThe present thesis encompasses all Léon Bloy's writings with the exception of the letters. As a stylistic study it aims at reconnoitering a seemingly complex rhetorical figuration and thus making clear the coherence of a production that is constantly introduced as the expression of a subject. A preliminary chapter deals with the poetics of the writer and brings out the view of language and literature that may be supposed to pervade his writings and order the rhetoric at work in it. The first part is devoted to the syntactic component of Bloy's style and focuses on the structure of the prose movement, describing the main features of Bloy's sentences. The author conforms to the canons of the oratorical period. But the uniqueness of his voice is perceptible in the profusion of the sentence elements, the unbalanced melodic line, the extreme tension of the movement. Another type of sentence is brought to the fore : it involves all forms of briefness and sets the limits of a discourse which no more believes in its efficiency. The second part of this research is devoted to the semantic component and points out on the one hand the stylistic splitting of the vocabulary, torn between high style and low style, on the other hand several discursive patterns which allow a semantic dissociation to be perceived through unusual associations of words, figures of analogy, textual inconsistencies. The resulting effect of all these figures is a garish often aggressive rhetoric of rupture. The final chapter emphasizes the ways in which these several patterns join in the staying of a fundamental unrest consists first of a linguistic unrest bringing forth such forms as exhibit some dysfunction ; Then in an existential unrest revealed through the rhetoric of destruction and nowhere more completly than in the form of the vindictive pamphlet and in the apocalyptic prophecy as a genre ; and last in the performance of the ill-treated subject whose presence constantly permeates the whole discourse. Such a rhetorical figuration of dysphoria underlines the constitutive unity of a work and opens on to a definition of Léon Bloy's style

Повний текст джерелаThis dissertation analyzes the narrative devices and rhetorical techniques used by eighteenth-century novelists in order to play with the expectations of their readers. These authors present their fictional narratives as true accounts. At the same time, however, they use strategies that force the readers to distance themselves from what they read: on the one hand, these authors present a series of literary topoï, which are so familiar to the readers that they can only be taken as a sign of fictionality; and on the other hand, the authors give a series of clues that prevent the readers from believing what is said. This study examines the consequences of these procedures and offers several theoretical hypotheses in order to understand the paradoxical poetics of play. It questions the effects and the implications of this poetics on the reader and proposes the apparently contradictory concept of “fictional truth” as a way to think through the various notions of play in eighteenth-century fiction

Повний текст джерелаThe autobiographical avoidance in Philippe Soupault's narratives. The reading of the narratives, short stories and novels written by Philippe Soupault, enlightened by his more traditionally autobiographical texts - diaries, memoirs, interviews - reveals an original practice of autobiography. An experienced reader only can foil the trays of concealment Soupault has instituted. Beyond the procedures of avoidance - the myth of failure, the refusal of remembrance, the model-characters - a self-centred writing arises. The works echoe as a manifesto on oblivion ; the notion of “ autofiction ” provides an interpretative framework. Thus, one can detect in the novelistic attemp - stamped by its time and by surrealist aftermaths - a fictionalization of the author's self. The reader becomes the interpreter of the one who, even under varied masks, remains present in his works

Повний текст джерелаThe popular novel is often considered to be second-class literature, orbiting around the Fine Literature. The blame is on the consumerism of its readers that forces the authors to follow a certain style of writing. However, some authors, like Alexandre Dumas, managed to avoid this contempt by getting the acknowledging of the French nation. For this prolific writer, recognition saw the light in the dark alleys of the Pantheon, unlike his works that remain snubbed. The aim of this thesis is to prove that Dumas’ work is a heavy-weight of literature due to the high appeal it has over the masses. Two works grab our attention as they are known to all, but not necessarily read by all : The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers. In the first place, we will observe the double reception of each of these novels, before analyzing their imaginary (characters, spaces and genre scenes) on the one hand and narration structure (morphology, narrator and narration) on the other. Through this slow dissection, in the second and third part, we will try to understand how Dumas’ pen casts his spell over the big mass of readers. It thus leads us to specific ingredients that are the signature of the author. Nevertheless, we are compelled to note that this recipe is shared by other writers. It allows popular literature to regain its stripes and its legitimacy

Повний текст джерелаChildren’s literature represents an autonomous, though not close on itself, literary realm. All the changes that took place in the early 70’s might be seen as signs of avant-garde trends, but they link the young audience’s demands to this era’s esthical, moral and ideological concerns. One will show in what ways contemporary narratives intented for the young can be considered as speech experiments : these woks, which specifically reflect the metamorphoses of the novel throughout the XXth century and claim for a new type of reader, also propose a new image of children. Through studies of various novels and picture-books intented for readers between the age of six and twelve, which were published between 1984 and 2004, one will see how authors try out original experiments on narrative and enunciation, thus calling for new forms of reading. That is why these works will be explored as tests or adventures for the subject and his speech, under a doublefold perspective : from both the artistic creation and the esthetic reception. Will be first analysed different patterns of creative experiments – those shared by a group of authors, and by publishing companies (e. G. Le Rouergue), as well as those specific to one writer such as Philippe Corentin. This theoretical model will then be confronted to actual and singular readings that pupils can make of them in school

Повний текст джерелаThis thesis wants to show that exist, in some xixth's novels, secret elements at first reading, called "indices". According to their information, they are contextual or permanent. They have their own inventors, transmitters and receivers, who recognize, make out index and sometimes have their reading confirmed by the ending. The indicial process has three types of functions. Firstly, they construct the text when binding it with reality, when giving to characters a past and a future, out of diegesis, when putting rhythm into novel with recurrences, when playing upon informations conveyed bu narration linearly. Indices announce characters personality and events, distinguish chronological order and diegetic order, sometimes set reader in false trail. Lastly, they allow characters to express themselves through insinuations. Their behaviour in front of index characterizes them : conscious or unconscious, volontary or unvolontary. Different diagrams give index different functions, even if it always appears like a paralanguage
Guilhembet, Jacques. "L'invention du concret dans l'oeuvre romanesque de Marivaux." Paris 4, 2004. http://www.theses.fr/2004PA040054.
Повний текст джерелаThis thesis shows that in his six novels Marivaux creates an effect of reality and invents a new poetics of the concrete. The first section examines how Marivaux individualises his characters and gives them a down-to-earth element. He often chooses names rooted in contemporary reality and includes many picturesque portraits, describing the body in many different states, with detailed attention to gestures and poses. The diversity of languages gives the illusion of natural authenticity. The reader is privy to the characters' inner lives. Marivaux's humanist novel no longer shows abstract, idealised heroes, but true-to-life beings in all their complexity. The thesis then looks at the way Marivaux inserts his characters into concrete spaces, in contrast to the stylised, artificial backgrounds used in the novels he is parodying. Places are often named and clearly located. The description of spaces both internal and external, whether rustic or urban, can be minutely detailed. An intense relationship exists between space and character. Moreover, the proliferation of objects, numerous observations of everyday details and little incidents from real life make this fictional world concrete. Finally, in order to discover the origins of this poetics, Marivaux is identified as part of a movement that fosters the emergence of the concrete in literature. The coherence between his practice as a novelist and his aesthetic ideas is also clear : his refusal to imitate Classical writers and to be an "auteur", his option for the natural, the "bigarrure", the "Je ne sais quoi" and the "rien", his principle of clarity and his concept of style go hand in hand with the concrete in his novels
Baker, Benjamin Hillel. "Frontières incertaines : techniques dispositives dans les romans de Prévost." Thesis, Paris 4, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016PA040058.
Повний текст джерелаThis thesis examines the relationship between part and whole in novels by Antoine François Prévost to question the modern assumption that prototypical novelistic narrative structure and dispositive structure (chapters, books, volumes, parts, installments, etc.) share the same points of articulation. In Prévost’s day, the combination of the unpredictable rhythm of publication in installments and the ever-present possibility of continuation made it difficult for authors and readers to identify a novel’s definitive conclusion. This uncertainty led to tension between a novel’s concrete parts and its imagined narrative whole, and that tension created what I have termed a segmentary esthetic that stands in contrast to both the more regularly serialized novels of the nineteenth century and to more recent single-installment novels. To support these hypotheses, I first investigate schemas of interaction between dispositive structure and narrative structure in Prévost’s novels that differ from modern formal expectations: pseudoworks (works-within-works) and narrative units that cross dispositive boundaries in the Mémoires d’un homme de qualité and the Voyages de Robert Lade, and interrupted publication and unauthorized continuation in Cleveland and Mémoires d’un honnête homme. I then identify similar interactions in two of Prévost’s more formally modern novels La Jeunesse du Commandeur and Histoire d’une Grecque moderne. This study shows that unstable boundaries can be compatible with compositional sophistication, and outlines a new method of analysis that can be applied to narrative fiction from other periods and in other media
Chung, Ji Won. "L'énonciation du sujet dans les romans de Julien Green, Moïra et L'Autre." Rennes 2, 2007. http://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-00267576/fr/.
Повний текст джерелаIn this book, we think of a discursive and gestural side of the character in the two novels of Julian Green, Moïra and L’Autre. The character, although invented by the author, assumes an autonomous role in relation to the voice of narrator. Under this angle, we can analyze the direct speech as well as the free indirect speech. These are the linguistic forms by which the fictitious subject origin expresses his individual idea which contardicts often the first intention of the enunciative speaker who are the narrator and implied author. This phenomenon results from the novelistic conception of the author who tries to represent the conscious subject alive for the reader. The experiance of the character in the novel arises by the dream or psyhcological splitting. These are due to mental suffering of the fictitious subject who commits a hideous act to an other subject, but which is ineviatble as for he realise that he is a sinful man. He is only a carnal being destined for the death. The sin commited by the fictitious subject is a stage which opens a way to the experimental knowledge. So, the writing of the sin becomes a leitmotiv of the novel. Finally, the death of the heroine in L’Autre like that of Moïra can be interpreted as a consequence of the human being in sin. They come to recognize their fleeting existence. But the death which they undergo throws light on their human being of finiteness which is doomed, from the very beginning, to his disappearance. That is the moment where cross the death of heroine and the end of his imaginary narration

Повний текст джерелаThe poetical works of Algernon Charles Swinburne articulate the manyavatars of a decomposition that manifests itself both the matically and prosodically in the text. Corpses, lepers, drowned bodies abound in his poetic universe. Beyond the clichés and common places of decadent aesthetics, Swinburne interrogates the possibility of proliferating materiality, so intense and irresistible that it contaminates the poetic form itself. This dynamics starts a curious autopoietic style that heralds the limitless possibilties of a formal recomposition. This thesis examines the stakes of Swinburne’s poetics, in order to understand where it stands in the context of the circulation of ideas during the end of the nineteenth century. In order to do so, this work will explore the dense intertextuality that connects the poet to French literature, from François Villon to Stéphane Mallarmé, through Clément Marot and Charles Baudelaire. Swinburne, francophone and francophile, appears as a overlooked figure, central both in English and French literatures

Повний текст джерелаThere would be realistic Baudelaire, Decadent, classic, Catholic, revolutionary, reactionary one and the same a postmodern. The images attributed to the author overlap according to time, the place and the esthetic and political currents in which he was read. But what embellishes with images Baudelaire does it build of himself in its critical texts? How if does he present to it to his public? To encircle better the literary face of this changeable and paradoxical face, the study proposed here tries to demonstrate that there is well and truly in the literary critic of Baudelaire a work of direction of one who can understand only from the diverse scenes of statement which the poet-critic capitalized throughout its career. It raises the question of the relation enters, on one side, the presentation of one and the scene of word which it joins and which it helps to build, and of the other one, enters this discursive direction of one and the strategies of positioning of the author inside the literary field. To what extent this work of presentation of one is indebted of the " situation of speech " in which one it expresses itself? And, corollairement, to what extent is he is a matter of a strategy of literary positioning? As soon as we notice that the choice of a posture, or diverse postures over time, is bound at the same time to a scene of statement, to a social and occupational stage and to a directory of roles and models ready to be invested, we enter the logic of construction of a work, but also a literary identity

The aim of this dissertation is twofold : to demonstrate the literary dimension of Kleist's letters and to determine their status within Kleist's works while examining the communicative aspects of his epistolary texts. Analyzing the communicative perspective inherent to epistolary texts indicates the way in which Kleist is revealing himself to his correspondents, and it creates an epistolary portrait of the poet. The particularity of an epistolary portrait is its contradictory and fragmented nature based on the incompleteness of epistolary works. The analysis of the ambivalence of Kleist's letters (an absence's discourse yet aspiring to immediacy) displays the coexistence of monologic and reflexive passages on the one hand, which are used by the writer as a way of forming his thoughts, and of a dialogic determination on the other hand on which the act of writing is based. The conscious forming of the image, the process of dramatisation of style, the reflective use of the word and of signs, the use of rhetoric figures, the intense observation, the transformation of reality into words are constituent components of a literary work. The purpose of the stylistict analysis of the study is to bring these aspects to light. But the singularity of this study lies in the careful examination of the epistolary object through the method of genetic critic, which proposes to analyze the manifestation of the elaborative process of writing within the manuscripts. In the poet's letters the unfolding of the enunciation is not restricted to the syntactic construction of the utterance, but also manifests itself in the addition of lines and signs - like the dash - which convey a metalingual level. On the borderline between semiotics and semantics, the study of the manuscripts reveals a fundamental field of investigation for Kleist's epistolary works and his writing

Повний текст джерелаIn the contemporary French novel, the father has few opportunities to be heard. While there have been an increasing number of stories about filiation since the 1980's, giving sons and daughters the possibility of questioning their ancestry, the father figure remains silent. Nothing is new here: literature often shows the father being kept away from the private sphere of family life, the father being a victim of the enduring patriarchal image and of his lost authority. At the turn of the 21st century, however, the humanities and social sciences suddenly began to take an interest in the topic. Looking at the father's silence, sociology, psychology, history, and also literature ask the question: what place, what role, and, in the end, what identity should be given to the father? In the midst of this growing discussion, the key player pressed by questions struggles to make his way into the foreground and take the floor. If eventually he introduces himself as a narrator, this should be noted and the forms of such an emergence in the contemporary novel should be investigated. An analysis based on the novels of four writers – Philippe Forest, Laurent Mauvignier, Gisèle Fournier et Sylvie Gracia – blending fictional and autobiographical works, allows us to define the features of an unprecedented phenomenon leading to new ideas about being a father today in terms of how it reflects the uncertainty of the individual in society, and also about the authorship of the work (“paternity”) and its issues in contemporary writing. This study first lays out historical and generic contexts of fatherhood by addressing the points of view offered by the social sciences and those derived from the literary approach. The structure of the paternal narration is then observed in such a way to allow an understanding of what's behind the father's words and how they work. Finally, the last chapter focuses on the singularity of the paternal voice and on that which, attempting to take account of reality, lends itself to an endless literary game, carrying away author, characters, and readers

Повний текст джерелаFar from the oecumenical celebration and the negritudian idealization of pre-colonial africa on the one hand, and the worship of formal franch language made from writers of his generation on the other hand, kourouma elaborates a new and deliberately inconoclastic and novelistic aesthetics in his novels. Half-way between oral tradition and classical novel writing, kouroumian aesthetics is embeded in an enunciative problematic. If the ultimate goal of this study is the expression of high degree, our approch is double-sided : showing the influence of oral tradition on the novelist's writing through his excessive use of hyperbole in the narration ; showing, by the description of linguistic expressiveness mechanism, in general, how the essential concern of the quest for a discursive credibility is solved. Among other subjects, we deal here with the frame of kouroumian aesthetics, that is, the problem of linguistic interferences and peculiarities, the problem of synonyms, polysemy and lexical creation. Un other words, without pretending to be exhaustive, this linguistic and semantic study intends to answer the questions of expressive and affective syntax, of grammar and, above all, of psychological and socio-cultural conditions of enunciation
