Анотація:

The purpose of the article is to explore the experience and to identify the best practices for modernizing the content and organizational structure of multilevel training of librarians in China. The methodology. The study has used a systematic approach, which allowed to consider all components of the Chinese higher education in the specialties “Library, Archive and Information Science”, to establish the continuity of educational levels of librarians, to find out the factors determining the training system’s modernization. There was carried out comparative and content analysis of the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral higher education levels educational programs, implemented by Chinese universities in the specialty “Library Science”, “Information Management and Information Systems”. This allowed to determine the general and the specifics of the Information Field Science training in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), to establish interdisciplinarity educational components, to substantiate the objective strengthening of the information component in the content of higher education in library science. The results. The article has looked into the content and structure of 227 different levels educational programs (EP) of the information specialists training, with 41% of them being the Bachelor’s level EP, 49% — Master’s, and 9% — Educational-Scientific Programs (ESP) for the Doctor of Management degree (an equivalent to the Doctor of Philosophy) in Information Sciences, provided in 108 universities in China. There were clarified the EP peculiarities: about 40% of them are programs dedicated to Information Management and Information Systems (Program in Information Management & Information Systems); 35% — EP in Library Science (Program in Library Science); 31.5% — EP in Archive Science (Program in Archive Science). In terms of content, most EPs are interdisciplinary, which is due to the national information infrastructure digitalization and the focus of its components to support the basic technological processes of the information management life cycle. It is established that Chinese universities adhere to the IFLA Guidelines for Professional Library and Information Science (LIS) Educational Programs. The scientific topicality. It is substantiated that in the digital information market the content of modern librarian training should be updated with such relevant interdisciplinary educational components as: “Principles of competitive intelligence and artificial intelligence”, “Electronic library and consolidated information management”, “Intelligent control systems”, “Information security systems”, “Economics of Management and Information Industry”, “Methods of data mining”, “Knowledge extraction and management”, “Analysis and design of information systems”. The practical significance. Ukrainian institutions of higher education when improving educational programs in the can use the study results. Addressing to the best foreign practices of the library specialists training will allow increasing their competitiveness in the world information market and promoting better efficiency of the Ukrainian libraries work in the conditions of the society digitalization.

Анотація:

Although the perceptions of library user education of academic libraries has been studied in a general context, specific studies on perspective of library and information science students are relatively few, especially in the context of Asia. Filling this research gap is particularly important because it affects the experiential learning of these pre-professionals, and shapes future library user education directions. As such, this study aims at understanding and comparing the views and perceptions of library user education programs in Greater China from the perspective of library and information science students. A total number 305 questionnaire survey responses were collected from three different universities in Greater China, namely: The University of Hong Kong (HKU), National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), and Peking University (PKU). Results from this survey study reveal high evaluations of library user education programs and library user education librarians as a whole, as well as possible ways for librarians to better promote such programs. Such ratings are attributed to findings from previous studies on why students choose librarianship as a career, as well as the importance of experiential learning embedded in the Library and Information Science programs at each university. Findings of this study also suggest that as pre-professionals (soon-to-be professional librarians), these student respondents recognize the values behind library user education as an important part of their overall learning practices. Results from this study will be useful in identifying how future library professionals in Greater China perceive library user education programs, and librarians – therefore potentially helping librarians improve the delivery of these services.

The aim of this paper is to introduce the development of data science in higher education in China, including the policy and educational programs at various levels. We investigated the data science education of five LIS (Library and Information Studies) schools in China, using Fudan University’s Data Management and Application Master’s Program as an example for more specific information about the curriculum structure, course focus and teaching methods in data science education. Анотація:

The Education Partnership Assistance (EPA) is an institutional arrangement that has played an important role in the balanced and sustainable development of higher education in China, in which universities of East China provide the paired universities in West China with various assistance. EPA is part of the political commitment made by the Chinese government to fulfil sustainable and balanced development. By applying a policy process framework and qualitative text analysis to the government and universities’ official documents, we find EPA is primarily based on the Communist Party of China (CPC)’s ideological cornerstones of “common prosperity”. Over the past two decades, by conducting leadership secondment, faculty and student training, and ICT and library development, EPA has improved the development of universities in West China, and the central government’s current emphasis remains on the continuation of EPA. However, this paper argues that EPA cannot be going on indefinitely and that true sustainability is contingent on the capacity building of the recipient universities, rather than on the endless assistance from supporting universities. EPA is a localized action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in China. It sheds light on the connections between domestic aid and the SDGs from a supplementary perspective.

Purpose of the study: This study will present an overview of the history of Library and Information Science (LIS) education and the general situation of its Master level education in Mainland China and India. Further, a comparison of Master of LIS (MLIS) education between Heilongjiang University and North-Eastern Hill University will be analyzed mainly through six aspects along with coming up with several suggestions to improve the future education quality of MLIS program in Mainland China. Methodology: The case study method, literature research method, field investigation method, in-depth interview method, and comparative research method will be adopted to conduct this study. Main Findings: Through the comparative analysis of two universities’ MLIS education in six aspects, it can be found that there are some problems existing in four aspects of MLIS education in Heilongjiang University. Applications of this study: This study can be helpful in the field of LIS education and also can be a reference for concerned academic institutions to refine their LIS education system. Novelty/Originality of this study: Currently there is no literature about comparative studies of LIS education between Mainland China and India. Therefore, to bridge the missing gap, a necessity is felt to take up research on such kind of topics.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to generalize the teaching characteristics of some typical colleges in China which offer Informetrics courses, and to propose useful suggestions for the course construction of Informetrics through empirical investigation. Design/methodology/approach The statuses of Informetrics curriculum education of the top ten universities in Library and Information Science and Archives Management in Chinese mainland as well as Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan have been investigated and analyzed through a network survey and a telephone survey. Wuhan University and Fu Jen Catholic University are considered as the typical examples. Findings The educational development of Informetrics in China has gone through three stages: the initial stage, the developing stage and the improving stage. Based on the empirical investigation and analysis, some meaningful conclusions are drawn concerning the education system, teaching objectives, teaching contents and teaching methods of Informetrics courses. Originality/value This paper provides curricular information about Informetrics courses in China.

Анотація:

The aim of the study is to determine the current state and trends in the development of models of higher library and information education in Asian countries, establishing opportunities for borrowing their best educational practices in Ukraine. The article identifies Asian countries-leaders in the modernisation of national systems of higher library and information education, including both developed countries (Japan) and rapidly developing countries (China, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, and the Philippines). The research methodology is based on the use of heuristic possibilities of socio-cultural and systematic approaches, source studies and comparative methods, and content analysis of bachelor’s and master’s educational programmes in library science. The scientific novelty of the research consists in proving the common and different in the systems of higher library and information education of the leading Asian countries, introducing into scientific circulation the results of the content and structure analysis of library science educational programmes of the best universities in the leading Asian countries. It is noted that these educational institutions have successfully implemented all the basic principles of the Bologna Process into educational practice, thus contributing to the quality improvement of the library specialists’ training and their competitiveness on the global labour market. The author of the article draws conclusions regarding the main principles underlying the modernisation of library science educational programmes and establishes the socio-cultural, economic, geographical, and political factors that led to the diversity of training models for information specialists at different levels. The special features of degree training of bachelors, masters, and doctors of philosophy in the “Library and Information Sciences” specialty in leading Asian universities are determined; the profiles and content of their educational programmes are characterised. The organisational and cognitive features of the library and information personnel training of various educational levels are established; the key competencies acquired by students during their mastering are characterised. Emphasis is placed on promising achievements and innovations of the best training models of library and information specialists in Asian countries, which should be implemented within the framework of a single integrated specialty 029 “Information, Library and Archival Science”.

Purpose – Using three university library consortia China Academic Library and Information System (CALIS) (China), Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA) (USA) and Joint University Librarians Advisory Committee (JULAC) (Hong Kong) as examples, the purpose of this paper is to compare the administration of three university consortia and to explore the cultural, educational and geopolitical forces that produce and shape university library consortia. Design/methodology/approach – The methodology used reviewed published and proprietary documents, interviews and observation. Findings – While the stated objectives are similar, the three vary markedly in size, funding source, and whether programming is a bottom-up decision or emanates from the central government. CALIS was started by China ' s Ministry of Education, who also helps in setting programmatic agendas and appointing managers; GWLA came into existence through the efforts of a small group of university librarians, elect their own board and set programming in response to member needs and suggestions; JULAC, initiated by the university librarians in Hong Kong has some support from the government through bodies charged with the oversight of the universities. The differing educational systems also influence programming, for example in the relative importance member libraries place on preferential inter-library loan. Originality/value – There are few comparative studies of library consortia found in Asia and the US comparative studies of consortia encourage an understanding of the benefits of different consortia models.

Анотація:

To study the construction and planning of the library service facility system based on public digital culture teaching in international cultural metropolises, the main body of resources construction, channels, selection criteria, construction standards, user service policies, service methods and service objects of the National Digital Library of Russia were analyzed. The construction foundation, policy support and digital resource construction of the Chinese and Russian national digital libraries were compared. The results showed that the problem of digital copyright was solved while the library community was constructing digital resources according to the existing rules. Therefore, this method has certain implications for the construction of digital libraries in metropolitan areas in China.

Information communication technologies and media have challenged traditional education and changed teachers’ thinking. These technologies present unique opportunities for supporting creativity, which is the key aim of learning in arts education. Despite the direct and close link between them and arts education, how to integrate these technologies into traditional education has long challenged government and educational experts. Teachers’ digital literacy has been regarded as an important part of information communication technologies-enabled education. Because an arts education uses more equipment than other types of education, it is more dependent on digital media. Thus, arts teachers’ digital literacy has directly affected their teaching, and has played an increasingly important role in education. This paper, having investigated eight Chinese arts teachers’ digital concepts and utilities in their teaching, explores digital literacy in arts teaching in China from different perspectives. It also offers recommendations for research into arts teachers’ digital literacy and arts education research in China for the future. Overall, this study designs a framework of factors for Chinese arts teachers’ digital literacy.

Анотація:

By reading the titles, abstracts, and keywords of LIS doctoral dissertations in China from 2011–2020 and conducting cluster analysis and network analysis of keywords, this study aims to understand the intelligence structure of LIS doctoral dissertations in China, as well as the disciplines and topics intersecting with LIS. The results indicated that Wuhan University had the highest number of doctoral dissertations among all the selected universities offering LIS doctoral education. Research fields mainly focus on online information behavior and information services. The findings could be because of the development of computer science and information technology in the past decade, which indicates that the research direction of LIS in China follows the trend of time development.

This research study aimed to investigate the lack of student engagement in Chinese library science (LS) undergraduate education. Specifically, this study aimed to identify and understand the causes of the lack of student engagement and to articulate effective and pragmatic resolving strategies. This study adopted an inductive approach and a single case study design. The LS program at Wuhan University was employed as the case study, in which 29 full-time students were interviewed using a semi-structured question script. A thematic analysis of the interview transcripts pointed to 11 causes of the lack of student engagement. The conceptualisation of the research findings suggested revising the existing LS curricula and maintaining dynamic and interactive relationships among three main determinants of student engagement: curricular design, students’ individual interests, and career prospects. This study provides a perspective on the development and survival of LS education in China and shares important lessons and experiences for LS educators and policy makers across international borders.

Since the early 1990s, under a state-planning program, individual colleges and universities in China began to merge with much larger universities. Such mergers have been a part of China’s higher education reform. The wave of mergers among colleges and universities will have a far-reaching influence on China’s academic libraries. In this paper, the author attempts to explore positive outcomes for academic libraries, present anticipated challenges, and offer possible solutions in the library merging process.

It is well known that knowledge is the source of modern economic growth, but the roles of library and information services on sustainable economic growth had not been well established. Thus, a case investigation was designed to identify the roles of library services in public libraries with the population, education, and income as a comparison on sustainable regional economic development. Such an investigation was based on organically combining correlation calculation, principal component calculation, and linear regression calculation. Results prove that some library services in public libraries have the highest contribution to the first principal component. It also demonstrates that the first principal component explains 85.0%, 95.0%, and 64.2% of the variation in the normalized gross regional products of Jiangsu Province, Hunan Province, and Gansu Province in China, respectively. Library services in public libraries, the population, education, and income appear to have a similarly important effect on sustainable regional development. Component score coefficients and linear relationships between the principal components and regional gross regional product can be used together to investigate the relationship between library services and sustainable economic growth. The proposed method provides new ideas for evaluating the roles of library services in sustainable economic growth.

Library maker services are a current focus of the industry's theoretical research and practice. Based on the experience of library maker service activities both at home and abroad, this paper explores the design of the library space transformation and the practice of the maker services in Shenyang Normal University. In the face of “mass entrepreneurship and innovation” and the background of education, library maker services have become the main melody, and the construction of makerspaces is the panacea to boost the development of library services. Every qualified library needs to be transformed, insufficient ones need to be reformed, and maker services are not only a development drive of the era, but also the essential path to the future.

Abstract The Beibei Public Library (1928–1950) dedicated itself to social education in the rural areas of Chongqing. Examining this library in light of rural reconstruction, this study considers how libraries are affected by the attitudes and behaviors of social elites, officials, government policies, wars, conventional thinking etc. The Beibei Public Library is studied in terms of three aspects: indoor service, itinerant libraries, and additional services. Moreover, this study examines how librarians catered to peasants’ needs, promoted knowledge dissemination, and helped mold new lifestyles in rural China. This case study contributes to research on Chinese rural libraries in the first half of the twentieth century.

Extending mechatronic engineering education curriculum to the freshman and sophomore undergraduates is a new trend in China. Here extending our engineering education curriculum for mechatronics currently facing junior and senior to sophomore is considered in Education Innovation Foundation of Harbin Engineering University of China. Key issues and current philosophies executing by other universities for mechatronics practical training curriculum to freshman and sophomore are analyzed. Based on current teaching content of the curriculum, enhanced teaching strategies are proposed in order to accommodate sophomore of our university. Concrete content includes introducing multi domain modeling technique for plant modeling, GUI design facilitating modeling simulation and control implementation, and flexible and extendable model library development. The proposed approaches can facilitate extending our curriculum to the whole level of undergraduates in our university.
