Card tricks based on mathematical principles can be a great way to get students interested in exploring some important mathematical ideas. Bonomo (2008) describes several variations of a card trick that rely on nested floor functions, but these generally go beyond the reach of beginning algebra students. However, a simple spreadsheet implementation shows students why the card trick works and allows them to explore several variations. As an added bonus, students are introduced to composite functions, the floor function, and iteration, and they learn how to use formulas and the INT function in Microsoft Excel. The depth of the mathematical explanation can be varied according to students' background.

AbstractThe current state of the art in field experiments does not give me any confidence that we should be assuming that we have anything worth scaling, assuming we really care about the expected welfare of those about to receive the instant intervention. At the very least, we should be honest and explicit about the need for strong priors about the welfare effects of changes in averages of observables to warrant scaling. What we need is a healthy dose of theory and the implied econometrics.

The first Russian publication of the chapter from: Die großen Pianoforte-Virtuosen unserer Zeit aus persönlicher Bekanntschaft: Liszt, Chopin, Tausig, Henselt (Berlin, 1872) by Wilhelm von Lenz. It is devoted to Carl Tausig (1841–71) — one of the most prominent 19th century piano virtuosos, Liszts favorite apprentice, whose historical significance is still neglected in modern publications on piano playing. The introducing article contains biographical information on both — Carl Tausig and Wilhelm von Lenz (1809–83), Russian music critic, author of the notorious Beethoven studies.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the impact of an individually tailored preventive oral health intervention on the use of oral health care services by older family caregivers (FCs) and their care recipients (CRs). Material and methods: A randomized controlled six and 12-month oral health intervention study included FCs and CRs aged ≥65 years living in Eastern Finland. The participants were randomly assigned to an intervention (FCs n = 53, CRs n = 47) and a control (FCs n = 39, CRs n = 35) group. Individually tailored oral health interventions for the FCs provided by a dental hygienist focused on oral hygiene and self-care. Generalized estimating equations were used to analyze the impact of intervention on the change in the use of oral health care services. Results: The intervention had no significant effect on the use of oral health care services by the FCs or their CRs. Traditional factors such as female gender, a higher number of teeth, toothache, no dental fear, and higher morbidity were significantly (p < 0.05) associated with an increased use of oral health care services in the FCs, but not among the CRs. Conclusions: Individually tailored preventive oral health intervention showed no effect on the use of oral health care services. To promote oral health among the elderly, specific interventions focusing on use of oral health care services are needed. Trial registration: clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT04003493

The intensive use of conventional water-soluble fertilizers has been a concern, because in excess they are not efficiently used by the plants, in addition to losses in the environment due to leaching and/or volatilization. Studies have been performed for the development of more efficient fertilizers as an alternative attractive strategy to conventional fertilizers, due to optimization of processes associated with slow release of nutrients, preventing the loss of component species leaching or volatilization and reduce the cost of this resource. Zeolites are crystalline hydrated aluminosilicates with adsorption, cation exchange and water retention properties; and can be used as fertilizers as they are able to provide nutrients and water. Ashes produced through the combustion of fossil fuel are of technological interest. The large amount of residue produced allows the use as raw material for synthesis of zeolites, in addition to reducing the environmental impact caused by this industrial byproduct. This work aims at the preparation of zeolites 4A fertilizers, synthesized from fly ash from brown coal and enriched with salts for slow release nutrients. The synthesized and occluded zeolites were characterized by SEM-EDS, XRD, IR and TGA, commercial zeolite 4A was used as reference. The enrichment of the zeolite synthesized and occluded with nitrogenous salt in a ratio of 1: 2 (zeolite: NH4NO3) presented a 21.1% incorporation of the salt, while the commercial zeolite 19.8%, estimated by thermogravimetric analysis. Leaching tests in static and dynamic systems, conducted in water and salt solution, resulted in different behavior of ammonium and nitrate ion release, showing the mechanisms of salt dissolution and ion exchange intermediated by zeolite in electrolyte solution. The slow release of nutrients, in particular ammonium, trials was observed in both flow and static, with measurable concentrations in relatively long times (from 100 to 1000 h). The results of IR and TGA of the zeolite synthesized occluded after 1,032 h of contact in saline (static system), presented evidence regarding the salt, suggesting the use of enriched zeolite as an ideal fertilizer material in the slow release of nutrients. The results showed a better performance for the zeolite synthesized, compared to the commercial ones, releasing the ions more slowly, suggesting their potential use as fertilizer matrix for controlled release of nutrients.
O uso intensivo de fertilizantes convencionais hidrossol?veis tem sido motivo de preocupa??o, pois em excesso n?o s?o aproveitados de forma eficiente pelas plantas, al?m das perdas ocorridas no meio ambiente por lixivia??o e/ou volatiliza??o. Estudos t?m sido realizados para o desenvolvimento de fertilizantes mais eficientes como alternativa aos convencionais, destacando-se os fertilizantes de libera??o lenta de nutrientes, que evitam perdas de esp?cies componentes por lixivia??o ou volatiliza??o. As ze?litas s?o aluminossilicatos hidratados cristalinos, que possuem propriedades de adsor??o, troca cati?nica e reten??o de ?gua e podem ser utilizadas como fertilizantes, pois s?o capazes de disponibilizar nutrientes e ?gua. As ze?litas sintetizadas e oclu?das foram caracterizadas por MEVEDS, DRX, FTIR e TGA, adotando-se ze?litas 4A comerciais como refer?ncia. O enriquecimento da ze?lita sintetizada e oclu?da com sal nitrogenado em propor??o 1:2 (ze?lita:NH4NO3), apresentou uma incorpora??o de 21,1% do sal, enquanto que a comercial 19,8%, teores estimados por an?lise termogravim?trica. Os ensaios de lixivia??o em sistemas est?tico e din?mico, conduzidos em ?gua e solu??o salina, resultaram em diferentes comportamentos de libera??o dos ?ons am?nio e nitrato evidenciando os mecanismos de dissolu??o do sal e de troca i?nica intermediada pela ze?lita em solu??o eletr?lito. A libera??o lenta dos nutrientes, em especial de am?nio, foi observada tanto em ensaios em fluxo quanto est?ticos, com concentra??es mensur?veis em tempos relativamente longos (de 100 a 1.000 h). An?lises complementares por FTIR e TGA indicaram a presen?a do sal oclu?do na estrutura zeol?tica, mesmo ap?s 1.032 h de contato em solu??o salina (sistema est?tico), sugerindo o uso da ze?lita enriquecida como material fertilizante na libera??o lenta e cont?nua de nutrientes. Os resultados de lixivia??o em fluxo tamb?m sinalizaram seu potencial uso como matriz fertilizante para libera??o controlada de nutrientes.

Este trabalho consiste em estudar sistemas magnéticos percolantes bidimensionais e tridimensionais fora do equilíbrio com um parâmetro de ordem conservado - o nosso parâmtro de ordem é a magnetização total. Estes estudos estarão restritos aos processos que ocorrem a intervalos de tempo (por tempo entendemos o número de passos no processo de simulação) próximos ao início da simulação. O comportamento dos sitemas no ínicio da evolução temporal caracteriza ou não os sistemas como possuindo relaxação lenta. O nosso entendimento do que seja percolação relaxação lenta estão descritas no texto da tese. As simulações que estaremos efetuando levam em conta processos estocásticos ou seja, processos tipo Monte Carlo. Através do mapeamento do comportamento da energia total do sistema e/ou outra propriedade estrutural como fronteiras de aglomerados, verificaremos se os sistemas estudados possuem comportamento fractal ou não. Veremos que existe uma relação íntima entre o comportamento fractal e a natureza da distribuição de spins no sistema. Os sistemas magnéticos mensionados acima, são gerados com uma certa probabilidade de distribuição dos spins na rede, associadas às respectivas probabilidades de percolação (pc) já determinadas na literatura ou seja: no caso das redes bidimensionais quadradas temos pc =0,5927 e para as cúbicas simples pc =0,3116. Veremos que ambos os sistemas (bi ou tridimensionais) possuem o comportamento fractal e relaxação lenta, com o caso bidimensional apresentando situações que não podem ser caractarizadas desta forma enquanto os tridimensionais apresentando relaxação somente relaxação lenta. Gostaria de deixar registrado de pronto, que este trabalho é inédito pois não existe relato na literatura, até o momento, do estudo de sistemas tridimensionais da forma que efetuamos. Somasse a este fato, a descrição inovadora de uma metodologia de abordagem de um problema que não possue transição de fase a temperatura finita.
This work is to study two-dimensional and three-dimensional magnetic systems percolating out of balance with an order parameter maintained - our order parameter is the total magnetization. These studies are restricted to the processes that occur at intervals of time (time mean the number of steps in the simulation process) near the start of the simulation. The behavior of sitemas at the beginning of the temporal evolution features or not systems as having slow relaxation. Our understanding of what slow relaxation and percolation are described in the text of the thesis. The simulations that we will be making take into account stochastic processes namely processes like Monte Carlo. Through the total energy of the system’s behavior mapping and / or other structural property as clusters of borders, we check whether the studied systems have fractal behavior or not. We shall see that there is an intimate relationship between the fractal behavior and the nature of the distribution of spins in the system. The magnetic systems mentioned above are generated with a certain probability distribution of the spins in the network, associated with the respective probabilities of percolation (pc) already determined in the literature that is, in the case of square two-dimensional networks have pc = 0.5927 and the simple cubical pc = 0.3116. We will see that both systems (two- or three-dimensional) have fractal behavior and slow relaxation, with the two-dimensional case presenting situations that can not be characterized thereby presenting three-dimensional relaxation while only slow relaxation. I would like to place on record ready, this work is novel because there is no report in the literature to date, the three-dimensional systems to study the way we make. Added up to this fact, the innovative description of a methodological approach to a problem that does not possess phase transition at finite temperature.

Nello studio svolto ci si è focalizzati sullo sviluppo e sulla validazione di un modello computazionale di occhio umano atto ad ospitare oltre alle varie strutture oculari, nove differenti modelli di cristallino ricreati sulla base di dati geometrici acquisiti "in vivo" mediante il dispoditivo "Oculus Pentacam", su un campione di 50 lavorati dell'ospedale di Reggio Emilia. Sfruttando le tecniche di analisi Monte Carlo, in una prima parte del lavoro (parte A) si è condotta la validazione dei nove differenti modelli. Mediante il codice MCNP è stata simulata una situazione di irraggiamento isotropo con una sorgente puntiforme di fotoni monoenergetici a differenti valori di energia tipici per la radiologia interventistica (10 keV, 20 keV, 30 keV, 50 keV, 70 keV, 100 keV, 150 keV). I modelli geometrici realizzati e i risultati ottenuti sono stati confrontati con dati già presenti in letteratura; in particolare, si sono presi in riferimento gli studi effettuati da El Basha e Behrens, con i rispettivi modelli oculari. Nella seconda parte dello studio (parte B) i modelli sono stati introdotti in una geometria più complessa costituita da due fantocci d’acqua (paziente e operatore sanitario), tavolo operatorio e tubo RX, e rappresentativa di una situazione standard e realistica del settore lavorativo d’interesse. I modelli oculari sono stati dunque testati con i tre diversi spettri energetici a 50 kVp, 75 kVp e 100 kVp validati in precedenti lavori. I valori dei coefficienti di dose per unità di fluenza di particelle [pGy cm^2] e di dose assorbita [pGy], sono stati riportati per ogni sorgente monocromatica della parte A, e per ogni spettro energetico utilizzato come sorgente nella parte B del lavoro, ma anche per ogni modello di cristallino e per ognuna delle altre strutture oculari. Inoltre, per la parte B, oltre alle quantità appena citate si sono stimati e graficati i valori dei coefficienti dose espressi in [pSv h^(-1) cm^2] e del rateo di dose equivalente [pSv h^(-1)].

Dans le domaine du stockage de l'information, la miniaturisation de l'unité magnétique portant l'information est un enjeu capital. Ainsi, la découverte de molécules possédant des propriétés de relaxation lente de leur aimantation, comparables à celles des aimants classiques, constitue une avancée majeure suscitant l'espoir de pouvoir un jour stocker l'information à l'échelle moléculaire.Cette thèse a pour but d'étudier les propriétés magnétiques des chaînes aimants. Ces chaînes sont constituées d'unités magnétiques liées par des interactions magnétiques au sein d'un réseau unidimensionnel. Au delà de leurs potentielles applications, les chaînes aimants sont parfaitement adaptées à l'étude fondamentale des chaînes de spins. Le premier chapitre de ce manuscrit constitue un rappel des propriétés statiques et dynamiques des chaînes aimants connues à ce jour. Le deuxième chapitre décrit les propriétés statiques des parois séparant les différents domaines d'aimantation dans des chaînes de spins de topologies magnétiques variées. Le troisième chapitre de ce manuscrit décrit les propriétés dynamiques des chaînes de spins d'Ising. Bien que seul le modèle de Glauber soit utilisé dans la littérature associée aux chaînes aimants, il existe une infinité de modèles dynamiques d'Ising.Grâce à l'étude détaillée de trois modèles, il est montré dans ce chapitre que l'application d'un champ magnétique permet de révéler différentes dynamiques de relaxation de l'aimantation pour chacun des modèles considérés. Ces résultats permettent enfin de proposer deux protocoles expérimentaux à même de déterminer le modèle dynamique le plus adapté à l'étude des chaînes aimants
The size reduction of magnetic units able to store information is an important issue for the design of high-density data storage devices. The discovery of molecules that show slow relaxation of their magnetization, similar to classical magnets, is a great breakthrough in terms of molecular scale information storage. The work presented in this thesis is devoted to the study of the magnetic properties of Single Chain Magnets. Single Chain Magnets can be viewed as a one-dimensional assembly of anisotropic magnetic units linked by magnetic interactions. Beyond their potential applications, Single Chain Magnets are interesting prototypes for the fundamental study of spin chains. The first chapter of this manuscript summarizes some known static and dynamic properties of Single Chain Magnets. Chapter II is devoted to the static properties of domain walls, which link the magnetic domains in spin chains, considering various magnetic topologies. Chapter III is dedicated to the dynamic properties of Ising spin chains. In the Single Chain Magnet literature, the Glauber model is used to describe the dynamic properties of such spin chains. However, there exists an infinite number of dynamic Ising models. In this chapter, three dynamic models are studied in detail. We show that the presence of a magnetic field allows us to discern different magnetization relaxation behaviors associated with each dynamic model. These results allow us to establish two experimental protocols in order to determine the most suitable dynamic model to describe the properties of Single Chain Magnets

Electronic patient records or virtual consultation hours—in recent years, digital developments have increasingly found their way into medical care structures and individual healthcare. Additionally, communication on health and illness in individuals’ everyday lives is increasingly taking place via digital media and has become an element of our lifestyle: fitness trackers, health apps or fitness stories on Instagram are becoming more and more popular. ZusammenfassungAutomatisiertes Fahren verändert die zukünftige Mobilität grundlegend und wirkt sich auch auf den öffentlichen Verkehr (ÖV) aus. Häufig wird hierbei von einer weiteren Verschiebung der Grenzen zwischen dem klassischen ÖV und dem motorisierten Individualverkehr (MIV) und von einem Übergangsbereich des öffentlichen Individualverkehrs (ÖIV) mit automatisierten Fahrzeugen bzw. von einer Individualisierung des öffentlichen Verkehrs gesprochen (vgl. Lenz/Fraedrich 2015: 189; Röhrleef 2017: 15; Bruns et al. 2018: 12; Barillère-Scholz et al. 2020: 16): Bereits heute differenziert sich das Mobilitätsangebot durch neue Angebotsformen wie beispielsweise Car-Sharing oder Ride-Hailing aus.

AbstractAutomated driving will fundamentally transform future mobility and will also affect public transport. In this context, there is often talk of a further shift of the boundaries between classic public transport and motorized individual transport, with an area of transition in public individual transport with automated vehicles, or an individualization of public transport (cf. Lenz/Fraedrich 2015: 189; Röhrleef 2017: 15; Bruns et al. 2018: 12; Barillère-Scholz et al. 2020: 16): already today, mobility is becoming differentiated through new forms of services such as car sharing and ride hailing.

This chapter builds up the first case study of the book by examining the trajectory of diseased animals. It investigates how rinderpest or the Calcutta Epizootic of 1864 came to be constructed as a visible threat to the empire. Additionally, by focusing on major crosscurrents concerning cattle health, it demonstrates how a renewed protectionist stance manifested itself in the form of colonial legislations along with a surge of anti-animal cruelty literature among Bengalis. What sets this chapter apart from other works on animal disease in colonial India is that it demonstrates how attempts to control animal disease eventually merged with humanitarian initiatives. While the sentiment of compassion towards nonhuman animals was not a novelty in India, its contact with the Raj lent a different hue to it. Compassion was no longer a commitment to the virtue of “ahimsa” (non-injury to a living being)- but implied a loyalty to bigyan or “science.” The best example of the mingling of ahimsa and bigyan is the foundation of the Belgachia Veterinary infirmary in 1901.

Abstract In the 1950s many countries including England, Germany, the USA, the Netherlands, and Canada had indigenous manufacturing industries producing the two most popular modified insulins, NPH and Lente. Most doctors thought these were satisfactory, and in 1954 a well-known American specialist begged the manufacturers to be cautious about adding more ‘to the present ample market’. No doctor asked for purer insulin preparations, but purification was the goal of insulin chemists, and became the Danish manufacturers’ trump card in increasing their market share.

Tuve el privilegio de conocer al doctor Jorge Avendaño cuando fui convocado por él, a mediados de 1992, para colaborar en su campaña hacia el Decanato del Colegio de Abogados de Lima. Accedió a este cargo en circunstancias políticas muy difíciles: vivíamos gobierno de facto, entre el 5 de abril de 1992 y el 31 de diciembre del mismo año, y la recuperación constitucional y democrática se tomaba lenta y complicada. Lo acompañé como Segundo Vicedecano del CAL en los dos años de su excelente y esforzada gestión.

A extensão do território brasileiro, combinado com sua demografia de mais de 200 milhões de habitantes, resulta em um sistema cartorário complexo, caro e lento. Tecnologias de blockchain podem ser de grande ajuda neste cenário. Elas nos provêm uma maneira distribuída de armazenar e validar dados em uma rede peer-to-peer descentralizada. Neste artigo, nós começamos a discussão sobre um sistema notarial nacional baseado em blockchain capaz de armazenar e validar registros públicos de pessoas naturais. Nós prototipamos uma solução que engloba os documentos de nascimento, casamento, divórcio e óbito. Ao final, são apresentados os custos operacionais do protótipo junto de uma comparação com o sistema cartorário utilizado atualmente.

O design de sistemas por considerar o produto como um conjunto inteiro, e o slow fashion, porque visa a democratização do processo de criação de peças de forma mais lenta, preocupando-se com o desenvolvimento dos processos. Para alcançar um resultado satisfatório, utilizou-se a metodologia desenvolvida por Ezio Manzini e Carlo Vezzoli, o Life Cycle Design (LCD), procurando reduzir os inputs e outputs o máximo possível, tanto em termos quantitativos quanto qualitativos. Ponderando assim, a nocividade de seus efeitos, por meio da avaliação de todas as fases do produto, que são subdivididas em pré-produção, produção, distribuição, uso e descarte. Por se tratar de semijoias, sendo, então, um bem durável, requere-se poucos recursos durante o uso e manutenção, concentra-se em reduzir o impacto nas fases antecedentes e posteriores ao uso. Como resultado, obteve-se uma potencialização na gestão da empresa, reduzindo os gastos energéticos e materiais. Atingiu-se tal solução por meio de uma melhor organização de etapas operacionais nas fases antecedentes ao uso do produto, buscando adequar-se ao sistema slow fashion, com a otimização do volume de compras e logística de vendas, reavaliação da embalagem e material aplicados. Percebeu-se que a matéria prima já em uso é a menos impactante para o ambiente por ser de alta durabilidade e passível de reaproveiramnento. Por fim, redesenhou-se a embalagem com tecido reciclado, de uma forma que possa ser reutilizada pelo consumidor final após ser adquirida. Conclui-se que é possível readequar um sistema já em andamento, adaptando-o de forma a reduzir seu impacto na natureza por meio do slow fashion e design de sistemas, valorizando o processo de produção, não só o lucro financeiro que a venda do produto proporciona, além de aperfeiçoar o sistema como uma unidade e repensar o conjunto para valorizar a qualidade e o modo de produção, expondo a possibilidade de renovar o sistema industrial vigente de modo sustentável e consciente, por meio de uma ação local, visando atingir um macrossistema de forma harmônica. The high temperature composites have been studied for applications to secondary structures due to their light weight and thermal resistance. Relatively few studies have been conducted to consider them for primary structural load bearing capabilities. These studies focused on titanium matrix composites to characterize their material behavior [1], unidirectional [2], simple loading conditions [3, 4] in a laboratory environment or unrealistic structural geometry [5]. The purpose of this work was to study fatigue damage and determine fatigue life in titanium matrix composite panels at unloaded fastener holes subjected to thermo-mechanical fatigue loads with variable amplitudes and temperature ranges. The test panels were machined from a prefabricated structural component with pre-drilled fastener holes. The test material was a 32 ply, quasi-isotropic, approximately .224 inch thick titanium matrix laminated composite with SCS-6 fibers and Ti-15-3 metal matrix. The material was HIP consolidated followed by slow cool to room temperature. The thermal zone area was 2 inches long along specimen length and 1.875 inch wide with a .3125 inch fastener hole at the center of the thermal zone. All specimens were machined using a 3-D water jet cutter. The test system consisted of a closed loop servo-hydraulic 30 Kip test system equipped with an MTS model 458 control system, a 486 PC containing a Keithley Metrabyte DAS 1601 computer card. The specimens were gripped using MTS model 647 side load hydraulic wedge grips equipped with surfalloy grip surface. The thermal loads were provided by an Ameritherm 5 kilowatt induction power supply and a total temperature instrumentation model MC-125 temperature controller. The temperature controller was equipped with analog set point and recorder output of temperatures with both set for 1–5 volt signal levels for 0 to 1832 F. The computer generated the temperature and load profiles and monitored error band for temperature. The computer system was set to null pace the temperature and loads if the temperature exceeded a 18 degree F variation. In effect all processes would hold until the temperature error returned inside the error band. This temperature error control was accomplished by comparing the command signal to the temperature controller to the process temperature signal from the temperature controller. The nominal uniform temperature zone was one inch long centered at the specimen geometric center and maintained required temperatures within 10 degrees. The variations in temperatures along the crack line were controlled to with in 5 degrees. Cooling blocks were attached to the test samples at the end of uniform sections near the fillet blend. These blocks were cooled with water passages and compressed air was passed through holes in the blocks and impinged on the samples to provide additional cooling at the end of the thermal ramp during cool -down. The air was turned on by the computer at about 400 degrees F during each block. On all notched test samples, an extensometer was mounted across the center flaw to obtain load-deflection data (COD). The optical crack lenth measurements were made using a 20 X Gaertner traveling microscope. The load versus crack mouth opening displacement readings were taken to compare with the optical measurements of the crack length. The thermomechanical load spectrum was developed from the distribution and frequency of loading that the airframe will experience based on the design service life and typical design usage. The loads and environmental spectra are used to develop design flight by flight stress environment spectra. The data and failure surfaces were analyzed to study the high stress and low stress failure, environmental degradations, surface cracks in matrix and the effect of notch on crack initiation failure mechanism. During this investigation it was observed that the most difficult task in thermomechanical fatigue testing is to control the cooling rate as required by the thermal profile. The results show that the fatigue life depend on the applied maximum stress, increased temperatures and hold levels of both the loads and the temperatures. The variation in experimental fatigue life is with in the order of magnitude typical of fatigue data considering the complexity of the test and loading conditions. The SEM photographs and micrographs showed that in titanium matrix composite, the mode of cracking is under partial bridging of fibers at the matrix crack. The COD data was of little use for totally automated measurements when comparing with the crack sizes measured.

RESUMO A sociedade atual vive em um contexto tumultuoso, sendo comum as pessoas viverem de forma mais estressadas, se alimentando mal e convivendo cada vez menos com as pessoas, perdendo oportunidades de fazer e manter relacionamentos pessoais. Como este estilo de vida está saturado, gerando problemas de saúde aos indivíduos, existem diversos estudos que comprovam a tendência de que as pessoas buscarão um melhor aproveitamento do seu tempo, com um maior contato com a natureza, dando valor ao seu próprio bem-estar, prestando mais atenção no que consome e em como consome, assim como a valorização do prazer de estar em um meio social. Nesse contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho é contribuir por meio da visão sistêmica e do design, o incentivo e a prática da filosofia Slow Food, e dessa forma, promover a preocupação com uma saudável forma de alimentação e a ação colaborativa entre as pessoas, em que um indivíduo possa cooperar com o outro, resgatando o convívio e socialização. Assim, pretende-se atuar em pequenas unidades urbanas externas, como prédios, condomínios, praças e avenidas com intuito de criação de um artefato que motive a prática dessa filosofia, assim como impulsione também as práticas colaborativas nestes locais, buscando a integração social e desenvolvimento econômico e ambiental, atendendo os princípios da sustentabilidade e o desenvolvimento local. O método de pesquisa usado é descritivo, em que se observou e analisou as situações e relações dos indivíduos, tanto de forma individual quanto as relações em sociedade. Os instrumentos escolhidos para coleta de dados foram o questionário, entrevistas e observações abertas, feitas informalmente ao decorrer das entrevistas. Neste trabalho integrou-se dois métodos de projeto, a ferramenta HCD/IDEO (Human Centered Design - Design Centrado no Ser Humano), usado como base, com técnicas para o entendimento dos desejos e necessidades da comunidade estudada e o Guia de projeto NASDesign/UFSC (Núcleo de Abordagem Sistêmica do Design/Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina), dividido em três fases: Sentir, Agir e Realizar, como complementação. Ao final, conclui-se que o modelo físico do produto proposto atende uma lista de requisitos divididos em três grande grupo: requisitos de produto, referentes à forma, materiais e texturas do objeto; requisitos do usuário, referente a necessidade entendida a partir do tipo de ambiente em que o produto está, e de como ele está sendo usado e aos requisitos do contexto de uso, que consiste nas necessidades do usuário observado durante a pesquisa.Palavras Chaves: design de produto, slow food, sustentabilidade. Reproductive tract infections (RTIs) including sexually transmitted infections represent a silent worldwide pandemic that adversely impacts the reproductive health (RH) of women and men. Various community- and hospital-based studies in India have provided insights into the magnitude of the problem. The International Conference on Population and Development (1994) emphasized integration of RH services to meet the needs of men and women especially with prevention and management of RTIs/STIs. The emergence of HIV and the identification of STIs as a risk factor for the spread of HIV have further lent a sense of urgency for a programmatic response to address this public health problem. Programmatic evidence from developing countries indicates that integration of RTI/STI prevention and management with existing health services is both feasible and cost effective. The National Population Policy 2000 also highlights the need for programs that include provision of RTI/STI and HIV/AIDS prevention, screening, and management in RH care settings. This report reviews global and regional experiences and provides strategic directions likely to be the most effective in addressing these problems in India.
