<p>Faced with the problems of unbalanced energy consumption (EC) and short lifetime of nodes in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), a Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) clustering routing protocol based on energy balance, namely LEACH-EB (LEACH Based on Energy Balance) protocol was proposed. At the initial selection stage, the nodes which are close to the base station (BS) with great remaining energy and many neighbor nodes are selected as the cluster heads (CHs); then, the non-CH nodes enter the clusters which have the least costs based on the strength and remaining energy of the communication signals between themselves and different CHs. At the data transmission stage, if the CH which sends the information is one hop away from BS, the CH needs to select a neighbor CH with the largest forwarding probability as the next hop relay node based on the remaining energy of each neighbor CH, the number of nodes in the cluster, and the distance from BS. The selected neighbor CH continues to determine the next hop in the above manner until the data is successfully sent to BS. Simulation tests show that LEACH-EB protocol can receive more data and extend the network life cycle by 60%, 43.1%, and 13.36% compared with LEACH, LEACH-C, and FIGWO, respectively. </p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>As an important kind of clustering protocols in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), LEACH and its variants have been demonstrated to efficiently balance the energy consumption, simplify the routing task and extend the network lifetime. Especially, the multi-hop LEACH type protocols have proved to be effective approaches for high energy efficiency, reliability as well as scalability. However, data transmission in hop-by-hop mode increases the energy consumption and end-to-end delay. In this paper, an improved multi-hop LEACH protocol based on fuzzy logic called IMF-LEACH is proposed, which uses a fuzzy logic controller with residual energy, length of data, and distance to BS as fuzzy descriptors to determine the hop count. Moreover, the hop count is used for each CH to find its optimal next-hop intermediate CH with more residual energy and less number of members. Simulations are conducted in MATLAB to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol, and the results show that IMF-LEACH maximizes the network lifetime and outperforms its counterparts consistently.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

A wireless sensor network is made up of a large number of small sensor nodes with limited energy resources, which is a real problem for this network. In this article, we will study the ingestion of node energy in these networks at the routing level. In addition, we are modifying one of the most popular routing algorithms for data communication in the WSN: LEACH (Adaptive Hierarchy with Low Power Consumption). The modified version of the LEACH base version "MG_LEACH" uses an intermediate cluster header to transmit data, extend the network lifetime and send more data than the original protocol. Our proposed algorithm is simulated using MATLAB to verify the effectiveness of improving the lifetime of this network. The results of the simulation confirmed that the system was working better than the LEACH basic system and that the network life had been improved. <p> </p>

<p>The limited energy of nodes in wireless sensor networks and the<br />impossibility of replacing their batteries, have lead to protocols development<br />which optimize and balance the energy consumption over the network.<br />LEACH is the most used hierarchical protocol. However, one major<br />weakness of the LEACH protocol lies in both of its random cluster formation<br />and cluster head election. In this paper, we present two new protocols based<br />virtual grid clustering on coverage area. In the first one, sensing area is<br />devided into grids as squares named as VSG-LEACH and in the second one<br />into grids as hexagons named as VHG-LEACH. In each zone, one cluster<br />head is elected according to its residual energy and its distance from the cell<br />center. The simulation results show that the network lifetime is prolonged by<br />169.67% and the energy consumption is improved by 80.97% compared to<br />LEACH protocol.</p>

<p class="0abstract"><span lang="EN-US">To prolong the network life and improve the network performance, a new clustering routing protocol which uses dynamic network to divide and consider the residual energy of sensor nodes is proposed. The design and simulation of the clustering scheme for mobile wireless sensor networks are also studied. The results show that the protocol controls the number of cluster heads by region division of the network and balances its distribution in wireless sensor networks according to the latest location of the sink node. At the same time, the residual energy of nodes is considered to balance the energy consumption of the network when the cluster head is elected. The protocol effectively solves the problem of uneven distribution of cluster heads in time and space and energy consumption of each node in the LEACH protocol. Compared with the LEACH protocol, M-LEACH effectively prolongs the network life. From this, it is seen that the application of M-LEACH protocol in mobile wireless sensor network clustering routing is effective.</span></p>

<p><span lang="EN-US">In this paper, we propose a new approach to improve the protocol LEACH performance. It has been accomplished by increasing the energy balancing in clusters among all nodes to minimize the energy dissipation during network communications. The improved method is based on an optimized selection of cluster head. The development of this approach has indicated progress in terms of network lifetime, energy consumption and number of packets transferred to base station, compared to LEACH or other related extended spaces protocols. Mathematical analysis and simulations results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The energy consumption of WSN has been reduced up to about 3.5 %. The network life cycle is prolonged by 44 %. The number of packets sent has been increased by 185 % than LEACH.</span></p>

In this paper, a clustering protocol for Embedded Agent sensor network is proposed.In LEACH protocol, the selection probability P of candidate cluster head is constant without thinking about residual energy, which caused the lower residual energy easy to be the candidate cluster head.Compared with traditional structure of wireless sensor network, parameter was optimized. The confidence of the node, select probability and residual energy are the parameter of candidate cluster head, communication cost as the parameter of final cluster node. Compared with LEACH and ASCH, EACA take more parameters than LEACH. Results show that EACA can balance the energy load in the network, and effectively reduce more energy consumption.

The overall aim of this thesis was to study the natural and landscape-induced patterns of herbicide sorption and risks of leaching and off-site transport of herbicides in an intensively managed orchard system. The questions for this thesis were: a) How can contour-derived digital elevation models be enhanced? b) To what extent do topographic and management factors influence the distribution of soil properties in an apple orchard? c) How do landscape topography, soil properties and land management factors influence the spatial distribution of diuron sorption affinity? and d) How is the fate of diuron influenced by the spatial variability of soil and key fate properties? The objectives of this thesis were: a) to determine whether a ‘smoothing’ algorithm can enhance the accuracy of a contour-derived digital elevation model; b) to evaluate the role of topography and management practises in predicting the distribution of soil properties using a soil-landscape modeling approach; c) to evaluate the effects of topography, soil properties and management practises on the sorption affinity of diuron; and d) to assess the integrated effect of topography, management practises and herbicide sorption on the leaching potential of diuron in a spatially variable landscape using the Leaching Estimation and Chemistry Model (LEACHM) and surface runoff using the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) model. A study site in the Mount Lofty Ranges, South Australia, was selected for its wide variation in landscape and soil properties under intensive horticultural management. The site was a section of an apple orchard with a strong texture contrast soil and landform with a relief difference of 50 m. The accuracy of digital elevation models (DEMs) of the site was first evaluated. Then the relationship between terrain parameters and critical soil properties that were easily determined in the field (e.g. soil colour and texture) was determined. A strong relationship was found and therefore the experiment was expanded to take into account the effects of management and terrain on soil properties that influence pesticide sorption, such as total organic carbon, soil pH, electrical conductivity, clay content, and soil texture. Sorption of the herbicide diuron was determined on the soil through traditional laboratory and chemometric analyses using mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy. A strong correlation was found between diuron sorption coefficient values determined by traditional laboratory methods and those predicted using MIR spectroscopy (R² = 0.79) . Then, the determination of the effects of terrain properties and management practises on diuron sorption distribution was evaluated within the context of soil-landscape analysis and geostatistical mapping. Soil properties varied significantly between alley and tree line regions and among different establishment ages of the orchard trees. Unique spatial patterns for soil properties, particularly total organic carbon (TOC), occurred within zones of the orchard. The variability in spatial distribution of the soil properties was reflected in the amount of diuron sorbed to the different soils. In the tree-line, where the soil was kept bare, diuron sorption affinity was significantly 16% lower than in the alley, where sod strips protected the soil surface all year round. Finally, leaching of diuron was estimated using LEACHM and the potential for surface runoff of diuron was determined using the OECD model. Management practises, the level of TOC and slope were found to influence leaching and runoff potential of diuron. The findings imply that, for intensively managed horticultural operations on complex landscapes, the influence of terrain on the distribution of soil properties and consequently on diuron sorption affinity was masked by management factors. Assessments of sorption distribution and, therefore, the environmental fate of pesticides must include stratification strategies based on management factors. The leaching estimation also suggests variable risk of diuron for mobility based on management and TOC. Therefore, a differential herbicide and pesticide application or management regime might need to be observed to minimise off-site impact of pesticides.

This chapter discusses methods of data collection and analysis that can be used to gain deeper understanding of processes of prefiguration. Prefigurative politics can be described as a set of political practices based on the understanding that “the ends a social movement achieves are fundamentally shaped by the means it employs, and that movements should therefore do their best to choose means that embody or ‘prefigure’ the kind of society they want to bring about” (Leach, 2013 p. 1004). Prefigurative politics therefore entail the practices that are put in place to reflect and work toward achieving a vision that is held by and for a community in connection to a social movement. Focusing on feminist prefiguration to promote women’s civic engagement in rural Nicaragua, I discuss the role of grassroots partnerships as a method of prefiguring a more just and globally inclusive psychology.

This study investigated a unique wasteform containing molten salt wastes which are generated from the pyro-process for the spent fuel treatment. Using a conventional sol-gel process, SiO2-Al2O3-P2O5 (SAP) inorganic material reactive to metal chlorides were prepared. By using this inorganic composite, a monolithic wasteform were sucessfully fabricated via a simple process, reaction at 650°C and sintering at 1100°C. This unique wasteform should be qualified if it meets the requirements for final disposal. For this reasons, this paper characterized its chemical durability, physical properties, morphology and etc. In the SAP, there are three kinds of chains, Si-O-Si as a main chain, Si-O-Al as a side chain and Al-O-P/P-O-P as a reactive chain. Alkali metal chlorides were converted into metal aluminosilicate (LixAlxSi1−xO2−x) and metal phosphate (Li3PO4 and Cs2AlP3O10) while alkali earth and rare earth chlorides were changed into only metal phosphates (Sr5(PO4)3Cl and CePO4). These reaction products were compatible to borosilicate glasses which were functioned as a chemical binder for metal aluminosilicate and a physical binder for metal phosphates. By these phenomena, the wasteform was formed homogenously above μm scale. This would affect the leaching behaviors of each radionuclides or component of binder. The leach rates of Cs and Sr under the PCT-A test condition were about 10−3g/m2day. The physical properties (Cp, k, ρ, Hv, and etc) were very reasonable. Other leaching tests (ISO, MCC-1P) are on-going. From these results, it could be concluded that SAP can be considered as an effective stabilizer on metal chlorides and the method using SAP will give a chance to minimize the waste volume for the final disposal of salt wastes through further researches.

Introdução: Crustáceos podem ser encontrados em ecossistemas terrestres, de água doce, salobras e marinhas, desde zonas abissais até zona nerítica, desenvolvendo assim, adaptações que possibilitaram uma vasta distribuição geográfica. A laguna de Itaipu faz parte do bioma Mata Atlântica e contempla uma ampla diversidade de ecossistemas, como restinga e manguezal. A laguna tem capacidade de promover diferentes atividades econômicas para as comunidades locais, mas vem sofrendo historicamente com a urbanização, acarretando modificações ecológicas do ambiente e prejudicando a economia local. Objetivo: O objetivo do estudo foi entender a distribuição e a variedade de espécies de crustáceos decápodes residentes na laguna de Itaipu-RJ. As coletas foram realizadas mensalmente no período de outubro/2019 a março/2020 na laguna de Itaipu, localizada na região oceânica do município de Niterói-RJ. Metodologia: As formas de captura dos decápodes foram classificadas em ativa e passiva, sendo as ativas, coleta manual, puçá e rede de arrastos arrasto (25 mm entre nós oposto), e as passivas, armadilhas (redinha e cova). Os animais coletados foram acondicionados em um caixa térmica com gelo e identificadas em laboratório, de acordo com a literatura especializada. Resultados: Foram encontradas 18 espécies representadas pelas Subordens Dendrobrachiata e Pleocyemata. Dentro delas 10 aquáticas (Callinectes danae Smith, 1869; Callinectes exasperatus Gerstaecker, 1856; Callinectes sapidus Ranthbun, 1896; Charybdis helleri A. Milne-Edwards, 1867; Libinia sp Leach, 1815; Menippe nodifrons Stimpson, 1859; Pagurus brevidactylus Stimpson, 1859; Palaemon sp Weber, 1795; Penaeus brasiliensis Latreille, 1817; Petrolisthes armatus Gibbes, 1850) e 8 espécies semiterrestres (Aratus pisonii H. Milne Edwards, 1837; Cardisoma guanhumi Serville e Guérin, 1828; Goniopsis cruentata Latreille, 1803; Neohelice granulata Dana, 1851; Ocypode quadrata Fabricius, 1787; Pachygrapsus transversus Gibbes, 1850; Minuca rapax Smith, 1870; Ucides cordatus Linnaeus, 1763. Foram identificadas cinco espécies com interesse econômico: U. cordatus, C. guanhumi, C. danae, C. exasperatus, C. sapidus e P. brasiliensis. Conclusão: Houve a ocorrência da espécie exótica Charybdis helleri nativa do Oceano Indico-Pacifico. A quantidade de representantes de decápodes encontrada neste estudo está semelhante ao apontado para outras lagoas/lagunas do litoral brasileiro.
