Анотація:

Over the past few years the Montreal World Film Festival has continued to increase its programming of films by African directors. The 1991 edition, which ran from August 22-September 2, was certainly no exception. I happened to turn on the television to the French station and caught Société Radio Canada’s “official” review of Laafi by Pierre Yameogo of Burkina Faso. The reviewers, Chantal Jolis and René Homier-Roy, dismissed Yameogo’s portrayal of a current African problem—braindrain—as weak in terms of artistic production. For example, they both agreed that Laafi had too many “monotonous moments.” Homier-Roy, in particular, seemed completely oblivious to the colonizing attitude he displayed when he spoke of how the film illustrated the “petit-nègre” (a phrase I have rarely heard spoken since I left France in 1987) side of Africans. He then proceeded to “legitimize” the comment by shrugging his shoulders and declaring, “It’s the Africans who are showing it this time, not us.” Finally, the reviewers decided that African films are really only useful for their “anthropological” information.

In 1977, after studying theatre together at university, Annie Gascon, Danielle Hotte, and Claude Poissant founded le Théâtre Petit à Petit. With shoe-string budgets and minimal facilities, they explored a number of theatrical styles, doing everything petit à petit or little by little. Today the company is run collaboratively by Marie-France Bruyère, François Camirand, René Richard Cyr, Annie Gascon, Claude Poissant, and Denis Roy, and is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a remarkable season of both revival productions like Claude Poissant’s Ce qui reste du désir and new work like Fantômes, Concert-Fantôme. It has also been getting a lot of attention because of its hit production of Michel Marc Bouchard’s Les feluettes, directed by André Brassard as a co-production with the National Arts Centre / Centre National des Arts.

Résumé Les recueils d'études littéraires publies par Marcel Dugas entre 1919 (Apologies,) et 1942 (Approches,) constituent une sorte d'anti-manuel de la littérature canadienne-française qui, à ¡'encontre des manuels de. l'abbé Camille Roy, adopte une perspective résolument moderniste. La présente étude montre comment l'oeuvre de Dugas s'inscrit sous le double signe de la fidélité et de la contradiction. Ainsi, celui qui rappelle sans arrêt au public l'importance des 'exotiques" (en particulier Guy Delahaye, Paul Morin et René Chopin) et qui sera un des permiers à reconnaître la valeur des oeuvres de Saint-Denys Garneau et d'Alain Grandbois, consa-- crera paradoxalement aussi tout un volume à l'étude de la poésie si " ca-nadianisante " de Louis Frechette. À vrai dire, la complexité du personnage n'a d'égale que celle de l'époque à laquelle il a vécu et écrit.

Issu d’une famille de Touraine, fils d’un horloger du roi réputé, Julien-David Le Roy (1724-1803) fut le grand découvreur des antiquités de la Grèce au xviiie siècle, alors sous le joug turc. Membre des Académies royales d’Architecture et des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, il publia en 1757 : Ruines des plus beaux monuments de la Grèce (…), ouvrage fondamental à l’origine du goût grec de la seconde moitié du siècle. Une correspondance avec Marc-René de Voyer d’Argenson, marquis de Voyer (1722-1782), l’un des mécènes les plus influents de son temps, proche des Orléans, retrouvée dans le fonds d’Argenson de l’université de Poitiers en 2013, nous révèle la véritable personnalité de cette grande figure des arts, voire des sciences, du xviiie siècle. Au-delà de la carrière et de l’activité de l’académicien, mieux connues depuis les travaux de Christopher Drew Armstrong, c’est une facette inédite du personnage qui apparait dans ses trente-deux missives, rédigées entre 1766 et 1777 : l’homme, ses angoisses, ses attentes, son goût de la politique, du théâtre et des lettres, son activité de conseiller artistique auprès du marquis, tant à Paris qu’à son domaine des Ormes en Touraine, ses liens avec les architectes Chambers, De Wailly (notamment dans la fameuse affaire de la nomination de celui-ci à l’Académie d’Architecture en 1767), et bien d’autres personnalités du temps. Surtout apparaît un versant méconnu : sa parfaite connaissance de l’Angleterre au point d’espionner ses côtes pour le compte de la monarchie française. Une correspondance qui éclaire sur bien des aspects du siècle des Lumières. Beyond the career and activity of the academician, better known since the works of Christopher Drew Armstrong, it is a new facet of the character that appears in his thirty-two missives, written between 1766 and 1777 : the man, his anxieties, his expectations, his taste for politics, theatre and letters, his activity as artistic advisor to the Marquis, both in Paris and in his domain of the Ormes in Touraine, his relationships with the architects Chambers, De Wailly (notably in the famous affair of his appointment to the Academy of Architecture in 1767), and many other personalities of the time. Above all, there appears an unknown side : his perfect knowledge of England at point of spying its coasts for the French monarchy. A correspondence that sheds light on many aspects of the French Enlightenment.

Abstract Do relationship banks help firms in distress? Combining a survey-based measure of relationship lending with unique credit registry data, I examine the effect of relationship lending on loan performance. I find that the same firm in the same time period is more likely to become delinquent on a relationship-based loan relative to a transaction-based loan. Higher delinquencies do not, however, result in more defaults or less loan recoveries for relationship banks when loans mature relative to transactional banks. Conditional on past delinquencies, relationship banks are more likely to offer follow-up financing and extract rents. Consistent with theory, relationship banks tolerate temporarily bad results, yet extract rents and secure future business in return. The paper provides new empirical evidence for rent extraction by relationship banks that have been lenient to distressed firms in the past.

En 1889, Truman Howe Bartlett, journaliste américain, publie une dizaine d’articles consacrés à la figure d’Auguste Rodin dans le journal The American Architect and Building News . Richement documentés, ils sont issus des visites successives de l’homme au sein des ateliers du boulevard Vaugirard et au dépôt des marbres de la Rue de l’Université où le sculpteur élabore La Porte de l’Enfer . L’article se propose d’étudier la manière dont Bartlett se sert de l’espace physique de l’atelier comme scène d’énonciation et en renouvèle le topos littéraire alors en vogue. Le journaliste présente l’artiste dans son élément et rend accessible au public américain une œuvre encore interdite à ses contemporains en France. C’est ainsi grâce aux visites de l’atelier et à sa description que le chef-d’œuvre de la Porte et le mythe qui s’y rattache prennent progressivement corps.

En el año 2020 el artista René Pérez Joglar, conocido como Residente, lanzó su canción titulada «René». En ella, el artista entrelaza recuerdos de su niñez y adolescencia con dificultades con el alcohol, malestar subjetivo y otras frustraciones. La letra de la canción es íntima al punto que ha llevado a algunos comentaristas de calificarla como confesional. Algunos incluso lo compararon con lo hecho por Eminem en la canción «Loose Yourself», donde se abordan tensiones sobre masculinidad, raza y autenticidad. Tal vez lo más interesante ha sido la reacción que «René» generó en la sección de comentarios de YouTube. Ahí se pueden leer el análisis del video y de la letra, donde se empatiza con las experiencias en la niñez y adolescencia y se trata de diagnosticar los problemas de padecimiento subjetivo. Sobre todo, llama la atención el nivel de identificación de hombres con la canción, la letra y las experiencias de René. «La única canción con la que lloré», escribe un usuario.El ecosistema de las redes sociales y la economía de la atención no tardó en capitalizar tanto la performance como el mensaje de la canción. Varias video-rreacciones muestran a personas ―en su mayoría hombres― escuchando la letra y mostrando algún grado de empatía y vulnerabilidad. Muchos hombres se muestran llorando profundamente al identificarse con las experiencias relatadas. También hay miradas cínicas y sospechosas hacia la canción: ¿Acaso es una forma de confesión de malas conductas, una forma de anticiparse a una posible «cancelación»? Como es de esperarse, también se pueden apreciar comentarios y videorreacciones donde se argumenta que los hombres también son oprimidos por el sistema. Muchas de estas reacciones hacen eco de argumentos de académicos, pseudoacadémicos, y personajes en redes sociales que viven de la polémica y la polarización. Por ejemplo, es sorprendente ―y alarmante― presenciar el incremento en el número de seguidores que tiene Andrew Tate, llamado por ciertos medios como «el rey de la masculinidad tóxica», a pesar de haber sido censurado en diversas plataformas. ¿Qué es y qué hace la masculinidad tóxica en nuestra sociedad? ¿Cómo enfrentan los hombres tanto los discursos frente a la igualdad y equidad de género, y a la vez discursos que llaman a reconocerse en las prácticas de la masculinidad hegemónica?

The following report provides new data on a Sun Pyramid cache excavated by René Millon in 1959, including confirmation that the cache was associated with a substructure. A technological analysis illustrates the anthropomorphic eccentric production sequence, and indicates that the miniature projectile points were produced from debitage from multiple reduction technologies. All obsidian artifacts were attributed to the Otumba source area via energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF). In addition to providing data on the production of obsidian implements for ritual deposits, we suggest that the cache may be a representation of scaffold sacrifice.

Résumé La détresse et l’enchantement, autobiographie de Gabrielle Roy publiée à titre posthume en 1984, est le couronnement d’une carrière littéraire ayant essentiellement pour objet la réflexion sur soi. Contrairement à la plupart de ses nouvelles et romans antérieurs dans lesquels elle se dissimule souvent derrière un nom inventé ou un personnage fictif, dans La détresse et l’enchantement, Gabrielle Roy assume pleinement son rôle d’auteur-narrateur-personnage conformément aux exigences du récit autobiographique. Cependant, raconter les premières années de sa propre vie à un âge avancé est une tâche problématique, car le passage du temps rend difficile l’appréhension de cette autre elle-même qu’elle fut autrefois. Comme chez Gabrielle Roy, la remémorisation des souvenirs personnels est également subordonnée aux sentiments d’aliénation qu’elle ressentit dans la communauté francophone de l’Ouest canadien où elle vit le jour, une telle entreprise littéraire se confond à une quête identitaire qui suppose une rupture nécessaire avec son milieu d’origine et une découverte de son moi profond par le biais de l’écriture.

This essay considers commentaries on and translations of Plato’s Symposium (by Marsilio Ficino, the Henri Estienne-Jean de Serres team, and, preeminently, Louis Le Roy) as well as an influential Neoplatonic passage from Baldassar Castiglione’s Il Cortegiano to explore some of the implications of, and dynamics behind, the heterosexualization of Platonic eros in the Renaissance. Focusing on the specific work done by different texts in particular contexts rather than homogenizing the translation of pederastic eros, the essay contributes to a critical genealogy of heterosexuality. Links between Le Roy’s effort and the cultural and political ambitions of the French monarchy receive particular attention.

Au sens précis, la fiction consiste à accorder à une personne le statut juridique d'une autre. Mais prêter au roi le statut d'un époux mystique est une opération mentale qui dépasse une simple manipulation à l'intérieur du droit fondateur des statuts. Il s'agit bien plutôt de la création mythique du droit royal lui-même, d'une cosmogonie de la monarchie légitime, en somme.

Abstract: À l'intersection de l'art, de l'écologie, de la migration et de la justice sociale, cet article considère les effets de la consommation pétrolière mondiale sur l'habitabilité en Afrique de l'Ouest. En prenant pour objet d'étude l'œuvre La Bouche du roy (2007) de l'artiste béninois Romuald Hazoumé, notre analyse retrace un système d'exploitation et d'oppression, reliant la traite esclavagiste au changement climatique. Reconsidérant la gravure esclavagiste de 1789 dessinée par William Elford, La Bouche du roy est une œuvre qui présente plus de 300 bidons d'essence récupérés sur les bords de routes au Bénin et installés, telles des personnes réduites en esclavage, dans un navire négrier. Depuis la fin de l’année 2022, ChatGPT rend possible la rédaction de textes par Intelligence Artificielle. Cette IA faible est un agent conversationnel qui ne comprend ni les textes qu’il produit, ni ceux de son corpus d’entraînement. Car, pour écrire des textes crédibles, le chatbot construit des séquences de mots en choisissant les termes voisins les plus probables d’après les textes d’entraînement utilisés pour son modèle de langage GPT-3.5. Donc, par nature, ChatGPT rédige sans créativité un contenu plausible, mais pas nécessairement conforme à la réalité. Les textes ChatGPT peuvent servir à frauder dans un cadre académique : l’IA est capable de répondre à la place d’un candidat aux questions d’un examen, de rédiger un document certifiant (master, thèse…) ou d’augmenter déraisonnablement le volume des contributions d’un hyper-publiant. L’article décrit deux approches stylométriques capables de détecter la fraude académique générée par chatbot. La rédaction d’un texte par une IA peut d’abord être mise en évidence par la comparaison de son style avec des documents authentiquement rédigés par l’auteur présumé, selon l’approche Machine Learning que nous avons développée pour détecter le ghostwriting : l’IA est soumise au même type de détection qu’un ghostwriter. Ensuite, ChatGPT peut également être détecté comme IA indépendamment de son modèle de langage par notre approche originale Machine Learning, qui mesure le choix des mots et de leurs proches voisins : dans un texte chatbot qui préfère les voisins les plus probables, le choix est sensiblement plus restreint que dans un texte généré par un rédacteur humain. L’article discute les conséquences de la rédaction par IA pour l’enseignement et la recherche et propose des moyens pour la détecter.

L’analyse des procédures administratives et des interactions judiciaires auxquelles les plus jeunes inculpés d’insurrection furent confrontés après les journées de Juin 1848 montre que la juridiction d’exception ouverte par le décret adopté dans la nuit du 27 juin ne leur aménagea aucune place particulière. En la leur refusant sciemment, en mettant en sourdine le Code pénal, l’Assemblée, les commissions militaires et le pouvoir exécutif soumirent ces enfants aux mêmes conditions de jugement et de captivité que les adultes. Mais cette justice d’État rencontra la résistance des enfants arrêtés, de leurs parents, et même de certains de leurs juges d’instruction, qui plaidèrent la circonstance atténuante du jeune âge et réussirent à faire entrer dans cette juridiction d’exception des éléments de droit commun. Ce contraste entre les effets d’une justice de face-à-face et ceux d’une justice à distance révèle les dangers d’une justice exclusivement de papier où les inculpés n’étaient qu’un nom sans âge ni visage et, pour d’aucuns, que des insurgés sans foi ni loi.

Анотація:

The study objective is to describe the anastomoses between the left renal and iliac veins in the inferior vena cava system and to classify these anastomoses.Materials and methods. From 2015 to 2020, 340 men with varicose veins of the pelvic organs and bilateral varicocele were examined. Delayed imaging for 10–30 s with phlebotesticulography of 157 patients allowed us to study in more detail the vascular venous x-ray anatomy of the scrotum and various options for collateral circulation.Results. The data obtained by us during phlebography allowed us to offer our own classification of anastomoses between the left renal vein and the common iliac vein in the inferior vena cava system (reno-iliac intrasystemic anastomoses of the inferior vena cava): 1) through the vein of the vas deferens (v. ductus deferens), 2) through the cremasteric vein (v. cremasterica), 3) through the external testicular vein (v. testicularis externa). In addition to the classification, the terms for specific types of anastomoses are also proposed by us for the first time and do not have a name in the medical scientific literature. A new definition of the term “venous anastomotic node (nodus venarum anastomoticus) of the testis and its appendage” is proposed, which describes the anatomical relationship between the 4 veins: the internal testicular vein, external testicular vein, vena cremasterica and veins of the vas deferens. A new term is proposed “pseudo-varicocele” that defines the compensatory expansion of the internal testicular vein during normal antegrade blood flow through it.Conclusion. In this work, we give an X-ray anatomical description of the development of various types of collateral circulation in the system of the inferior vena cava between the left renal vein and iliac vessels in various types of arteriovenous conflicts of both the upper (nutcracker syndrome, posterior nutcracker syndrome) and the lower level (May–Thurner syndrome).
