AbstractThe strongest lines in the X-ray powder diffraction pattern of type material of glaucocerinite from Laurion (Greece), indexed on a hexagonal pseudocell, are 10.9 (100) (003), 5.45 (90) (006), 3.63 (80) (009), 2.62 (60) (012), 2.46 (60) (015), 2.231 (50) (018), and 1.981 Å (50) (0.1.11). The pseudocell parameters area3.0700(8),c32.65(1) Å. Chemical analysis of topotype material yields the formula [(Zn,Cu)5Al3(OH)16] [(SO4)1.5·9H2O] based on a pyroaurite-like structure. The pseudocell parameters for this sample area3.057(3),c32.52(5) Å. Optical data are 2Vα⋍ 60°,α1.540,β1.554,γ1.562;D(meas.) = 2.4±0.1 g/cm3,D(calc.) = 2.33 g/cm3. So-called ‘woodwardite’ from Caernarvonshire, Wales, is identified as the Cuanalogue of glaucocerinite. An ‘11 Å mineral’ occurring together with carrboydite in Western Australia is shown to be the Ni-analogue of glaucocerinite. Alleged cotype glaucocerinite from Laurion is related to woodwardite and has the formula [(Zn,Cu)2Al(OH)6][(SO4)0.5· 3H2O]. This is a cation-ordered pyroaurite-type structure with hexagonal cell parametersa5.306(2),c26.77(2) Å. The strongest X-ray powder lines occur at 8.9 (100) (003), 4.47 (90) (006), 2.55 (60) (113), and 2.28 Å (50) (116).

This paper focuses on a presentation and discussion of the solitary Middle Helladic tomb found in the Athenian Kerameikos. Our purpose is twofold: first of all, to present in detail the tomb offerings that we were able to relocate, and to suggest a MH I date for the burial. Secondly, given the significant presence of ceramic imports from various Aegean islands, we outline the connectedness that Attica enjoyed at the beginning of the Middle Bronze Age. This is a story that involves not just Athens, but Aigina, the Argolid, and Minoan Crete, as well as the much sought-after metal ores of Laurion.

A detailed programme of sample collection and laboratory analysis was undertaken at Agrileza, an ore-dressing installation in the Laurion. The site consists of three compounds with associated washeries (Agrileza A, B, and C), some excavated partially, others in full, in the late 1970s and early 1980s and dating to the last quarter of the 4th cent. BC. The particular functions of some of the rooms in compound C are tentatively put forward. The main part of the paper is concerned with the nature, composition, and particle size distribution of the tailings recovered both from washeries A and C and from elsewhere in compound C. The silver-to-lead ratios and particle size distribution of the tailings may suggest that the series of basins and channels making up each washery served not merely as a water purification device, but as a means of trapping ore that had escaped the first washing, for the purpose of dressing it further.

AbstractThe chemical formula of fiedlerite, a rare hydrated lead halide, has been revised. The mineral is now known to contain also fluorine, and the new, correct formula is Pb3Cl4F(OH)·H2O. X-ray diffraction studies on fiedlerite from Laurion, Greece (the type locality), and from Baratti, Italy (the second known occurrence), revealed its Order-Disorder (OD) character. All structures within this OD family can be built up by layers of the same kind. The two polytypes with Maximum Degree of Order (MDO) display triclinic and monoclinic symmetry, with one and two OD layers, respectively, in the unit cell. On these grounds the nomenclature of fiedlerite has been revised, and the mineral is designated together with the polytype suffix (i.e. fiedlerite-1A, fiedlerite-2M). The crystal structures of the two MDO polytypes of fiedlerite have been solved and refined: fiedlerite-1A: P, a = 8.574(3) Å, b = 8.045(4), c = 7.276(2), α = 89.96(4)° β = 102.05(4), γ = 103.45(4), R = 0.092; fiedlerite-2M: P21/a, a = 16.681(4) Å, b = 8.043(3), c = 7.281(2), β = 102.56(4)°, R = 0.061. In both structures Pb is eight-coordinated by different ligands [CI−, F−, (OH)−, H2O] that define bicapped trigonal prisms.

During the last years the broader area of Koropi (Mesogheia-Greece), has faced rapidly increasing problems concerning irrigation and watering of the town, due to the brackish water in the water supply boreholes. Our main target is to determinate the subsurface geological structure of the study area, located NE of the Koropi city, where alterations of schists and carbonates, from three different post-alpine units, mainly appear and relate it with the groundwater flow paths. The dominant geological outcrops of the area are the Athenian Schist (Laurion-Attica Unit), the dolomitic marbles (Vari-Kirou Pira Unit) and the Lower Marble (Hymittos Unit). A geophysical research was carried out in the area mainly based on the geoelectrical methodology, including by executing fifteen Vertical Electrical Soundings and one Electrical Resistivity Tomography. The interpretation results of the geophysical data have been evaluated and combined with “in-situ” resistivity measurements and calibrated with cores coming from drilled boreholes revealing the area. Through this combining process important elements of the local geological subsurface structure have been determined, as the formation of the dolomitic marbles (massive or karstified) was found tilting southwards beneath the Athenian Schist. From a hydrogeological point of view, this alone adds a significant parameter to the subsurface geological structure which is highly related to the groundwater flow that is responsible for many problems and could be used for solving many others.

This research aims to produce DAG of the VCO through the substrate reaction of trans-esterification using lipase enzymes specifically C18-20 from rice bran (Oryza Sativa L.) immobiled of activated carbon as a catalyst. Phases of this research starts with the enzyme lipase do immobile using activated carbon; next enzymes of immobile used to produce DAG through the trans-esterification reaction using a VCO as a substrate and methanol as ko-substrate; DAG and methyl ester produced identified using FTIR instrument and GC-MS instruments. The results showed that there were three compounds DAG and three compound methyl ester produced trans-esterification reaction, namely (1) 1-laurin, 3-heksanoin esters of glycerol; (2) 2-laurin, 3-oktanoin esters of glycerol; (3) 1-laurin, 3-heksanoin esters of glycerol; (4) methyl ester oleic; (5) methyl ester stearic acids; and (6) methyl ester arachidat.

Microdomains corresponding to localized partition of lipids between ordered and less ordered environments are the subject of intensive investigations, because of their putative participation in modulating cellular responses. One popular approach in the field consists in labelling membranes with solvatochromic fluorescent probes such as laurdan and C-laurdan. In this report, we describe a high-yield procedure for the synthesis of laurdan, C-laurdan and two new fluorophores, called MoC-laurdan and M-laurdan, as well as their extensive photophysical characterization. We find that the latter probe, M-laurdan, is particularly suited to discriminate lipid phases independently of the chemical nature of the lipids, as measured by both fluorescence Generalized Polarization (GP) and anisotropy in large unilamellar vesicles made of various lipid compositions. In addition, staining of live cells with M-laurdan shows a good stability over time without any apparent toxicity, as well as a wider distribution in the various cell compartments than the other probes.

Laurite, ideally (Ru,Os)S2, is a common accessory mineral in podiform and stratiform chromitites and, to a lesser extent, it also occurs in placer deposits and is associated with Ni-Cu magmatic sulfides. In this paper, we report on the occurrence of zoned laurite found in the Merensky Reef of the Bushveld layered intrusion, South Africa. The zoned laurite forms relatively large crystals of up to more than 100 µm, and occurs in contact between serpentine and sulfides, such as pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, and pentlandite, that contain small phases containing Pb and Cl. Some zoned crystals of laurite show a slight enrichment in Os in the rim, as typical of laurite that crystallized at magmatic stage, under decreasing temperature and increasing sulfur fugacity, in a thermal range of about 1300–1000 °C. However, most of the laurite from the Merensky Reef are characterized by an unusual zoning that involves local enrichment of As, Pt, Ir, and Fe. Comparison in terms of Ru-Os-Ir of the Merensky Reef zoned laurite with those found in the layered chromitites of the Bushveld and podiform chromitites reveals that they are enriched in Ir. The Merensky Reef zoned laurite also contain high amount of As (up to 9.72 wt%), Pt (up to 9.72 wt%) and Fe (up to 14.19 wt%). On the basis of its textural position, composition, and zoning, we can suggest that the zoned laurite of the Merensky Reef is “hydrothermal” in origin, having crystallized in the presence of a Cl- and As-rich hydrous solution, at temperatures much lower than those typical of the precipitation of magmatic laurite. Although, it remains to be seen whether the “hydrothermal” laurite precipitated directly from the hydrothermal fluid, or it represents the alteration product of a pre-existing laurite reacting with the hydrothermal solution.

We report the first results of a combined focused ion beam and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (FIB/HRTEM) investigation of zoned laurite (RuS2)-erlichmanite (OS2) in mantle-hosted chromitites. These platinum-group minerals form isolated inclusions (<50 µm across) within larger crystals of unaltered chromite form the Ojén ultramafic massif (southern Spain). High-magnification electron microscopy (HMEM), high angle-annular dark field (HAADF) and precession electron diffraction (PED) data revealed that microscale normal zoning in laurite consisting of Os-poor core and Os-rich rims observed by conventional micro-analytical techniques like field emission scanning electron microscope and electron microprobe analysis (FE-SEM and EPMA) exist at the nanoscale approach in single laurite crystals. At the nanoscale, Os poor cores consist of relatively homogenous pure laurite (RuS2) lacking defects in the crystal lattice, whereas the Os-richer rim consists of homogenous laurite matrix hosting fringes (10–20 nm thickness) of almost pure erlichmanite (OsS2). Core-to-rim microscale zoning in laurite reflects a nonequilibrium during laurite crystal growth, which hampered the intra-crystalline diffusion of Os. The origin of zoning in laurite is related to the formation of the chromitites in the Earth’s upper mantle but fast cooling of the chromite-laurite magmatic system associated to fast exhumation of the rocks would prevent the effective dissolution of Os in the laurite even at high temperatures (~1200 °C), allowing the formation/preservation of nanoscale domains of erlichmanite in laurite. Our observation highlights for the first time the importance of nanoscale studies for a better understanding of the genesis of platinum-group minerals in magmatic ore-forming systems.

Fluidity of lipid membranes is known to play an important role in the functioning of living organisms. The fluorescent probe Laurdan embedded in a lipid membrane is typically used to assess the fluidity state of lipid bilayers by utilizing the sensitivity of Laurdan emission to the properties of its lipid environment. In particular, Laurdan fluorescence is sensitive to gel vs liquid–crystalline phases of lipids, which is demonstrated in different emission of the dye in these two phases. Still, the exact mechanism of the environment effects on Laurdan emission is not understood. Herein, we utilize dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) and dioleoylphosphatidylcholine (DOPC) lipid bilayers, which at room temperature represent gel and liquid–crystalline phases, respectively. We simulate absorption and emission spectra of Laurdan in both DOPC and DPPC bilayers with quantum chemical and classical molecular dynamics methods. We demonstrate that Laurdan is incorporated in heterogeneous fashion in both DOPC and DPPC bilayers, and that its fluorescence depends on the details of this embedding.

Abstract This article argues that elements from the First Continuation of Chrétien de Troyes’s Perceval (or Le Conte du Graal) (c. 1190–1200) were remodelled in the anonymous late thirteenth-century text Le Roman de Laurin, which belongs to the cycle of the Seven Sages of Rome, to create the pseudo-Gawain episode (or episode of the White Knight). This is followed by a consideration of the reasons the author may have had for making use of these Arthurian elements. These include the idea that this section of the Laurin may have formed part of the apparent literary backlash against the denigration of Gawain found in the Prose Tristan (c. 1230), the probable desire of the author to enhance his hero’s status by making him Gawain’s equal, and perhaps the desire to create a text blending the matière de Rome with the matière de Bretagne. The article then looks briefly at how some of the same elements are also found in the Prose Tristan and presents a view on the possible relationship(s) between the various works in the context of these intertextual components. Finally, there is a consideration of what these intertexts may tell us about contemporary audiences and the reception of the Laurin, in the context of a widespread engagement with the Perceval-corpus. This leads to the suggestion that, in the way it interacts with other texts, this part of Laurin might be considered typical of thirteenth-century Arthurian romance. Steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence measurements have been performed on Laurdan, dissolved in viscous glycerol, as functions of temperature and concentration. The results indicate spectral heterogeneity of the Laurdan solution. The fluorescence decay time distribution is attributed to radiative deexcitation of spatial conformational forms of locally excited (LE) and charge transfer (CT) states, the S1(CT)EQ state being in thermodynamic and vibrational equilibrium. The lifetimes and contributions of the different fluorescence modes depend on concentration and temperature. The excitation and emission spectra show discontinuous changes with increase of the Laurdan concentration.We suppose that the observed changes are caused by the formation of Laurdan micelle aggregates.

O cultivar Laurina de Coffea arabica L. caracteriza-se pelo pequeno porte, folhas de dimensões reduzidas, frutos afilados na base, sementes pequenas e afiladas, pequeno rendimento e reduzida produção. Apresenta, no entanto, bebida de boa qualidade e baixo teor de cafeína nas sementes. Suas principais características são controladas pela ação de um par de alelos recessivos lrlr, de acentuado efeito pleiotrópico. Devido ao atual interesse do comércio por produto de baixo teor de cafeína, iniciaram-se pesquisas tendo em vista principalmente aumentar a produtividade do 'Laurina'. Para esse fim, realizaram-se numerosas hibridações de cafeeiros do 'Laurina' com os do 'Mundo Novo' (Coffea arabica) e, posteriormente, retrocruzamentos com o 'Mundo Novo'. Estudaram-se as progênies F2 e retrocruzamentos com o 'Mundo Novo' (RC) em Campinas, em um experimento, anotando-se as produções por oito anos consecutivos. Separaram-se algumas progênies F2 em dois grupos, antes do plantio: normais (LrLr,Lrlr) e laurina (Irlr). Como testemunhas, usaram-se progênies do 'Mundo Novo' e 'Catuaí Amarelo' de C. arabica. O conjunto de plantas F2 do grupo laurina e os retrocruzamentos tiveram produção média maior do que as plantas F2 normais, porém menor do que as testemunhas. Alguns retrocruzamentos e progênies F2 apresentaram plantas com razoável produtividade, indicando que, através de retrocruzamentos com o 'Mundo Novo', podem-se obter novos tipos comerciais com as características morfológicas do 'Laurina'. Fizeram-se considerações sobre a melhor capacidade de combinação do 'Laurina' com algumas seleções do 'Mundo Novo'.

AbstractWe examined grains of the platinum-group mineral, laurite (RuS2), from the type locality, Pontyn River, Tanah Laut, Borneo, and from the Tambanio River, southeast Borneo. The grains show a variety of morphologies, including euhedral grains with conchoidal fractures and pits, and spherical grains with no crystal faces, probably because of abrasion. Inclusions are rare, but one grain contains Ca-Al amphibole inclusions, and another contains an inclusion of chalcopyrite+bornite+pentlandite+heazlewoodite (Ni3S2) that is considered to have formed by a two-stage process of exsolution and crystallization from a once homogeneous Fe-Cu-Ni sulphide melt.All grains examined are solid solutions of Ru and Os with Ir (2.71 –11.76 wt.%) and Pd (0.31–0.66 wt.%). Their compositions are similar to laurite from ophiolitic rocks. The compositions show broad negative correlations between Os and Ir, between As and Ir, and between As (0.4 –0.74 wt.%) and Se (140 to 240 ppm). Laurite with higher Os contains more Se and less Ir and As. The negative correlations between Se and As may be attributed to their occupancy of the S site, but the compositional variations of Os, Ir and As probably reflect the compositional variation of rocks where the crystals grew.Ratios of S/Se in laurite show a narrow spread from 1380 to 2300, which are similar to ratios for sulphides from the refractory sub-arc mantle. Sulphur isotopic compositions of laurite are independent of chemical compositions and morphologies and are similar to the chondritic value of 0%. The data suggest that S in laurite has not undergone redox changes and originated from the refractory mantle. The data support the formation of laurite in the residual mantle or in a magma generated from such a refractory mantle, followed by erosion after the obduction of the host ultramafic rocks.

Limited data on the isotopic composition of sulfur of platinum-group minerals (PGM) are reported in the literature. The LA-ICP-MS method was used to study the S-isotopic composition of Ru-Os-Ir sulfides and sulfoarsenides forming secondary corrosion and superimposed PGM assemblages from placer deposit of the East Shishim river occurring within the Verkh-Neivinsky dunite-harzburgite massif. Sulfides from corrosion PGM assemblage (laurite, As-containing laurite) replace the grains of primary native Os and Ru minerals, forming rims on them. PGM from superimposed assemblage (laurite, irarsite, tolovkite, etc.) originated on the surface of laurite rims that form part of corrosion PGM assemblage. Variations in 34S values of secondary PGM (from –4.6 to 7.6 ‰) are more pronounced than those for laurite and erlichmanite from primary PGM assemblage (i. e., 0.2—2.3 ‰). The results are consistent with a model of the ultramafic massif ascending to the surface and subsequent water metamorphism during the tectonic flow and crust-mantle interaction. At the initial stage of metamorphism, mantle sulfur is present, isotopically lightened under oxidation conditions and temperature reduction. The final stage is marked by sulfur of the metamorphic fluid formed by the involvement of isotopically-heavy sulfur derived from the host sedimentary rocks.

The drought tolerances of the warm temperate rainforest species Tristaniopsis laurina and Acmena smithii were examined. Using pressure bomb techniques the tissue water relations of hardened juvenile and adult material were measured. T. laurina showed relatively little physiological drought tolerance in either the juvenile or adult plants, whereas A. smithii showed an increase in physiological drought tolerance in adult plants. Direct observations of droughted hardened 9-month-old seedlings revealed a relatively high leaf conductance in T. laurina seedlings with wilting becoming generalised after 9 days of droughting. All T. laurina plants rehydrated after 15 days of drought survived albeit with significant leaf abscission, but only 2 of the 5 plants rehydrated after 20 days of drought recovered and these were defoliated. Stomatal resistances were higher in droughted A. smithii seedlings and wilting did not become generalised until after 14 days of droughting. All A. smithii plants recovered when rehydrated after 20 days of droughting with little or no sign of leaf abscission. Leaves of T. laurina and A. smithii became scorched when subjected to temperatures of 50°C and 60°C respectively. The extent to which these differences delimit the distribution of these species in the relatively dry warm temperate rainforest communities of Gippsland in Victoria is discussed.

We also used a flow cytometer to quantify the 450/530 nm ratio of fluorescence emissions by whole cells. Results: We find that using all the information provided by spectral analysis to perform spectral decomposition dramatically improves the imaging resolution compared to using just two channels, as commonly used to calculate generalized polarisation (GP). Coupled to a new plugin called Fraction Mapper, developed to represent the fraction of light intensity in the first component in a stack of two images, we obtain very clear pictures of both the intra-cellular distribution of the probes, and the polarity of the cellular environments where the lipid probes are localised. Our results lead us to conclude that, in live cells kept at 37°C, laurdan, and M-laurdan to a lesser extent, have a strong tendency to accumulate in the very apolar environment of intra-cytoplasmic lipid droplets, but label the plasma membrane (PM) of mammalian cells ineffectively. On the other hand, C-laurdan labels the PM very quickly and effectively, and does not detectably accumulate in lipid droplets. Conclusions: From using these probes on a variety of mammalian cell lines, as well as on cells from Drosophila and Dictyostelium discoideum, we conclude that, apart from the lipid droplets, which are very apolar, probes in intracellular membranes reveal a relatively polar and hydrated environment, suggesting a very marked dominance of liquid disordered states. PMs, on the other hand, are much more apolar, suggesting a strong dominance of liquid ordered state, which fits with their high sterol contents.

The article sets out to draw a very brief comparison of the common features shared by the purist attitudes displayed by two 19th-century English and Romanian scholars, William Barnes and August Treboniu Laurian and classifies them according to the set of criteria devised by Thomas (1991). The paper also goes over several concepts regarding purism. The author of the paper analyses the concept of purism in both countries within the intellectual and temporal dimensions of purism. William Barnes was a Victorian reformer, a polymath, a priest, a poet in his Dorset dialect and a utopian prescriptivist linguist capitalizing on the Germanic word stock of English and suggesting the removal of excessive Latin & Greek vocabulary. He wrote several linguistic books and poetry. August Treboniu Laurian was an outstanding Romanian reformer and polymath. He penned a theoretical book heralding his reformist belief: “Tentamen Criticum”, in 1840 and a huge Dictionary of the Romanian language in 1876 (after a seven year work) capitalising on the Latin word stock of Romanian and suggesting the removal of non-Latin lexemes.

The music of Steve Reich has been widely written about. In this article I will focus on choreographies set to live performances of Drumming (1971). Drumming is perhaps Reich’s most important early work and a culmination of his various musical explorations and compositional techniques. I have selected three choreographers: Laura Dean, creator of the first choreography set to the music of Drumming (1972); Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, a choreographer whose works such as Drumming (1998) share Reich’s underlying principle of structures as processes; and Ginette Laurin, whose La vie qui bat (1999) was a joint production between Montreal dance company O Vertigo and the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (smcq). As this issue celebrates smcq’s 50th anniversary, this article will center on the making and performance practice of La vie qui bat. In preparing this article, the author interviewed Russell Hartenberger (Steve Reich and Musicians), Ginette Laurin, and Walter Boudreau (Artistic Director of the smcq).

Le Dr Laurin a mis sur pied un cursus prégradué et un post-gradué et doté le département d’un premier programme complet de résidence en français. Dr Gauthier a, en quelque sorte, « construit » le département en créant ses instances administratives. Dr Amyot a donné corps au réseau universitaire en intégrant les divers milieux hospitaliers dans les décisions et les projets du département. Chacun à sa manière a contribué à l’une des marques distinctives du département, à savoir l’importance accordée à la formation à la psychothérapie. De plus, les auteurs désirent souligner comment la psychanalyse ou mieux une certaine vision psychanalytique sans dogmatisme ni exclusivisme a joué un rôle important dans l’histoire du département universitaire. Ce faisant, ils ont transmis une conception de la psychiatrie où la perspective biopsychosociale n’est pas un vain mot.

The tectono-metamorphic evolution of Grenvillian monocyclic terranes in western Quebec has been constrained along a northwest–southeast transect from Réservoir Cabonga to the Morin anorthosite by the study of garnet zoning and the application of geothermobarometric techniques to appropriate mineral assemblages. In all three terrenes examined (Réservoir Cabonga, Mont-Laurier, and Morin terranes), the results are consistent with Grenvillian metamorphism induced by thrusting. Additional magmatic heat may have been provided by the cooling of igneous rocks related to the Morin anorthosite complex.After the peak of the Grenvillian metamorphism, the monocyclic rocks were sliced, and three Grenvillian crustal levels, sharing some of their lithologic elements but having contrasting Grenvillian peak-metamorphic conditions, were subsequently juxtaposed. The deepest crustal level exposed in the transect (level A) comprises the Réservoir Cabonga terrene and the margins of the Mont-Laurier terrene. This level consists of metasediments of the "Grenville Supergroup," garnet amphibolites, and synmetamorphic plutonites whose emplacement predated the thrusting. Metamorphic conditions in level A are estimated at 725–875 MPa and 725–800 °C. Level C, which is exclusively in the central part of the Mont-Laurier terrene, comprises metasediments of the Grenville Supergroup that were metamorphosed at 425–600 MPa and 625–725 °C. Synmetamorphic igneous rocks of the Morin plutonic complex in the Morin terrane were metamorphosed at 600–800 MPa and 650–775 °C, probably in an intermediate crustal level B, which is missing in the Mont-Laurier terrane. It is thus suggested that juxtaposition of the Mont-Laurier terrane and the Morin terrane along the Labelle shear belt occurred after the peak of metamorphism.A comparison of the metamorphic evolution of these monocyclic terranes with that of their adjacent polycyclic counterparts suggests that (i) the Réservoir Cabonga terrane was thrust over the parautochthonous Réservoir Dozois terrane after the peak of metamorphism and (ii) level A rocks of the Mont-Laurier terrane and the Réservoir Baskatong terrane were juxtaposed during the peak of metamorphism.

O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito de misturas de um substrato comercial e pó de fibra de coco (PFC) no crescimento e na qualidade de mudas de Inga laurina (Sw.) Willd. (Fabaceae). Tubetes de polietileno foram preenchidos com quatro misturas do substrato comercial HS Florestal® (HSF) e PFC nas proporções: T1 = 100% HSF; T2 = 80% HSF + 20% PFC; T3 = 60% HSF + 40% PFC e T4 = 40% HSF + 60% PFC. Os experimentos foram realizados de forma independente, em presença (experimento I) e ausência (experimento II) de adubação suplementar. Foram realizadas avaliações de crescimento e qualidade das mudas ao final dos experimentos, aos 81 dias (experimento I) e 110 dias (experimento II) após a repicagem. Concluiu-se que o uso da adubação suplementar não apresentou diferenças em crescimento e qualidade das mudas de I. laurina até o percentual de 60% de PFC misturado ao substrato comercial. Sem a adição de adubação suplementar, a mistura com 80% HSF + 20% PFC é indicada para a produção de mudas de I. laurina. Além disso, a ausência de adubação suplementar nitrogenada e a adição de PFC ao substrato estimularam a nodulação.Growth and quality of Inga laurina seedlings as a function of the substrate and additional fertilizationThe aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of mixtures of a commercial substrate and coconut coir dust (CCD) to grow Inga laurina (Sw.) The experiments were conducted independently, with supplement fertilization (experiment I) and without (experiment II). Seedlings growth and quality were evaluated at the end of the experiments, 81 days (experiment I) and 110 days (experiment II) after transplanting. It was concluded that supplement fertilization presented no differences in the growth and quality of I. laurina seedlings until up to 60% of PFC mixed with commercial substrate. Without supplement fertilization the mix of 80% HSF + 20% PFC is indicate for production of I. laurina seedlings. The effect of PAF on the plasma membrane polarity of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) was investigated by measuring the steady-state fluorescence emission spectra of 2-dimethylamino(6-1auroyl) naphthalene (Laurdan), which is known to be incorporated at the hydrophobic-hydrophilic interface of the bilayer, displaying spectral sensitivity to the polarity of its surrounding. Laurdan shows a marked steady-state emission blue-shift in non-polar solvents, with respect to polar solvents. Our results demonstrate that PAF (10−7M) induces a blue shift of the fluorescence emission spectra of Laurdan. These changes are blocked in the presence of the PAF antagonist, L-659,989. Our data indicate that the interaction between PAF and PMNs is accompanied by a decrease in polarity in the hydrophobic-hydrophilic interface of the plasma membrane.

Анотація:
The genus Inga presents a great diversity of species in the Amazon Rainforest. The present study aimed to evaluate the cell cycle behavior of Allium cepa L. through the cytotoxic, genotoxic and antiproliferative potential of infusions of the leaves of Inga edulis, Inga pilosula, Inga laurina and Inga macrophylla. For laboratory analysis, four species of the genus Inga were used. The test organism used was A. cepa. The infusions were obtained from the dried leaves of I. edulis, I. pilosula, I. laurina and I. macrophylla collected in the annual period of drought and rain. According to the analysis of the cells of A. cepa, using the direct method for the two periods, exposed under the infusions (1 g, 1.5 g, 2 g) of the dried leaves of Inga edulis, Inga pilosula, Inga laurina and Inga macrophylla, considerable statistical differences were observed. The species I. edulis, I. laurina and I. macrophylla showed the highest rates of cell division. For the percentage of interphase, the direct method was able to show the highest percentages of interphase cells. These data, when compared with negative and positive controls, indicated a statistical difference between treatments. This study showed that the four species showed genotoxic and cytotoxic effects on the roots of A. cepa.
