The initial aim of this study is to investigate the function of the Greek school of Trieste from 1801 until 1937. The establishment and initial operation can be seen as a distinctive aspect of the activities of the Greek community of Trieste and can be placed with in the Greek Enlightenment (1750-1830) and general intellectual Renaissance period, which characterized not only Greece but the Greek community as well. The presence of Greeks in Trieste from the mid 18th century onwards and their recognized contribution to the socioeconomic and cultural affairs of the city, linked them inextricably with the local history. There fore a detailed presentation of the Greek school is the second purpose of the study related to the history of local education. The presentation of the operation of an elementary private school in Trieste, the period in question, helps us understand the historical events and sociopolitical changes in the city and the broader area of today's Friuli-Venezia-Giulia, as well as understand their impact and extensions through a different angle. My study is divided into four chapters. The first chapter constitutes a brief history of the Greek community of Trieste, which is a general outline, useful to be placed in the main theme of the work. In the second chapter the first session of the school (1801-1830) is presented. The third chapter describes the operation of the school from 1830 until 1890 and the fourth chapter the last period of its operation (1890-1937).

Questa ricerca mira a ricostruire l'influenza della letteratura greca sulla formazione e sull'opera letteraria di Paolo Volponi (poesie e romanzi).<br>This research aims to analyze the influence of greek literature through Paolo Volponi's education and literary work (poems and romances).

La nostra ricerca prende in esame la rappresentazione dei personaggi femminili coinvolti nelle scene di giuramento all’interno della letteratura classica. Una prima sezione del lavoro è dedicata alla definizione di cosa sia il giuramento attraverso studi linguistici, antropologici, giuridici, storici e fornisce gli opportuni riferimenti alle fonti storiche e letterarie. La seconda sezione comprende una selezione di testi dalla letteratura greca e latina di epoca arcaica, classica ed ellenistica, di cui si offre un commento incentrato sull’analisi della formula di giuramento, degli aspetti gestuali descritti e del ruolo femminile nella scena. All’interno di ciascun quadro tematico si delinea una fenomenologia specifica, della quale si discute di volta in volta evidenziando il delicato rapporto tra la rappresentazione del personaggio femminile e il giuramento come forma del linguaggio autorevole e performativo. In questa dialettica tra performance di genere e parola efficace trovano spesso spazio la contestazione delle convenzioni sociali e una critica all’etica tradizionale, ma è anche possibile intravvedere dei tipi cristallizzati e delle ricorrenze topiche all’interno dei differenti generi letterari.<br>Our dissertation discusses the literary representation of female characters involved in the oath scenes of classic literature. In the first section of this work oath is analyzed from a linguistic, historical, juridical and anthropological point of view, providing references to many historical and literary sources. The second section consists of a selection of greek and latin texts of the archaic, classic and hellenistic period: our comment focuses on the oath formula, gestures and on the role of female characters, underlining the complex relation created by the interaction of female representation and oath as a speech act and an authoritative utterance. Each text is both exemplary for a specific phenomenology and it is indicative of peculiar literary themes, which are discussed. This tension between gender performance and performative language sometimes reveals a criticism concerned with social conventions and traditional values. Furthermore, it is also possible to identify some topic elements in different literary genres and to define some fixed and recurrent schemes.

This PhD dissertation aims to define and investigate the homometric occurrences in Greek archaic and classical strophic poetry. It is a metrical and verbal poetic tool which operates in monostrophic (AA) and triadic (AAX) responsive structures, determining metrical and verbal correspondences in the same metrical position. Metrical responsion leads to the belief that this was intended by the poet as a mean broadening the semantic level of an ode and the effectiveness of its construction, based on parallelisms, symmetries, concatenations, oppositions, while fulfilling cohesive functions or emphatic, phatic, contrastive, allusive, interjective and evocative ones. Though fragmentation of certain poems does not facilitate the analysis and the commentary of some occurrences, it is possible to state that this is a long-lived tool, provided with attestations in archaic and late-archaic choral lyric (Alcman, Ibycus, Simonides, Pindar, Bacchylides), in Lesbian monodies (Alcaeus), in the strophic production by Stesichorus and in the classical tragic choruses (Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides). Moreover, the inseparable unity of music, dance and poetic text leads to the assumption of a link between homometric occurrences and the ways of performing strophic songs, strictly linked to the vexata quaestio of melodic responsion and the role of word accent while composing melodies in a melodic language such as ancient Greek. The research concerns fragments by Alcaeus, Alcman, Stesichorus, Ibycus and Simonides, the epinician odes by Pindar, the Bacchylidean odes, tragedies by Aeschylus and Sophocles and a specimen of three tragedies by Euripides. 361 cases of homometric occurrences are identified. The fact that there are homometric occurrences already in Lesbian poetry and Alcman may be interpreted as a sign of longevity of a tool intended for poetic composition. The variety of its forms and purposes does not penalize but strengthen its significance: correspondences between identical words or similar structures, responsive parallelisms, opposing ideas in the same metrical position give us another tool for analysing the composing ways of an ode, the relevant concepts in the poet’s reasonings, in choral narrations, in commendation of clients, in the developing dramatic action. This work has its own natural limits and renounces easy forcing where it is not possible to extrapolate meanings congruent with the overall context of the composition.

La tesi si articola nello studio degli epigrammi bilingui delle Inscriptiones graecae urbis Romae, attraverso un'analisi storica, epigrafica, socio-culturale e soprattutto linguistica, con una particolare enfasi al rapporto fra le lingue latina e greca, sviluppata primariamente dal punto di vista della linguistica greca. Il fulcro del lavoro di tesi è dunque quello di individuare le interconnessioni esistenti nel bilinguismo greco-latino e valutarne le cause, analizzando le implicazioni culturali che ne derivano. Lo studio si sviluppa quindi in una prima parte, introduttiva, in cui vengono fornite nozioni generali sul bilinguismo, e in una seconda, nella quale ciascun epigramma è analizzato in ogni sua parte costitutiva e caratteristica.
