The shoulder is a complex anatomical structure and imaging plays an important role in the diagnosis and management of shoulder conditions. The complexity of the shoulder’s anatomy has led to the development of multiple radiographic projections and techniques within plain film imaging with each projection intended to demonstrate specific aspects of the anatomy of the shoulder. However, reproducing the required projections can be difficult especially if radiographers are not familiar with the projections and their evaluation criteria. Literature has revealed the importance of a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of anatomy, patient positioning, beam direction and centring point, and evaluation criteria to ensure a quality projection for accurate diagnoses. The aim of the study was to determine the knowledge and understanding of radiographers with regard to the supraspinatus outlet projection (SOP) for shoulder impingement syndrome (SIS) and its evaluation criteria. The inferences derived from the research findings were used to develop guidelines for a structured in-service training programme for practising radiographers to optimise their knowledge and understanding of the supraspinatus outlet projection in shoulder impingement syndrome. The proposed study followed a quantitative approach. Furthermore, a descriptive, exploratory, contextual design was employed. The research population consisted of practising radiographers working in the public and private hospitals of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. The data were collected by means of a structured self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire comprised of three sections. The first section requested demographic information from the participants. The second section assessed their knowledge and understanding regarding the scapular ‘Y’ and the supraspinatus outlet projections and shoulder impingement syndrome. The third section assessed their knowledge and understanding of anatomy and image evaluation/critiquing. The reliability and validity of the data collection instrument was ensured by conducting a pilot study and comparing the results with those of the main study. In addition, the expertise and guidance of a radiographer experienced in the clinical training of radiographers, the supervisor (who has twenty years’ experience in the teaching of radiographers) and a statistician was obtained. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were performed by means of a statistical programme and with the guidance of a statistician. The researcher ensured that the study was conducted in an ethical manner by adhering to the ethical principles of beneficence, justice and respect for persons.

Explaining the mechanism behind a genetic disease involves two phases, collecting and analyzing data associated to the disease, then interpreting those data in the context of biological systems. The objective of this dissertation was to develop a method of integrating complementary datasets surrounding any single biological process, with the goal of presenting the response to a signal in terms of a set of downstream biological effects. This dissertation specifically tests the hypothesis that computational projection methods overlaid with domain expertise can direct research towards relevant systems-level signals underlying complex genetic disease. To this end, I developed a software algorithm named Geneset Enrichment and Projection Displays (GSEPD) that can visualize multidimensional genetic expression to identify the biologically relevant gene sets that are altered in response to a biological process.

This dissertation highlights a problem of data interpretation facing the medical research community, and shows how computational sciences can help. By bringing annotation and expression datasets together, a new analytical and software method was produced that helps unravel complicated experimental and biological data.

The dissertation shows four coauthored studies where the experts in their field have desired to annotate functional significance to a gene-centric experiment. Using GSEPD to show inherently high dimensional data as a simple colored graph, a subspace vector projection directly calculated how each sample behaves like test conditions. The end-user medical researcher understands their data as a series of somewhat-independent subsystems, and GSEPD provides a dimensionality reduction for high throughput experiments of limited sample size. Gene Ontology analyses are accessible on a sample-to-sample level, and this work highlights not just the expected biological systems, but many annotated results available in vast online databases.

Un des enjeux actuels de la recherche en cryptographie est la mise au point de primitives cryptographiques avancées assurant un haut niveau de confiance. Dans cette thèse, nous nous intéressons à leur conception, en prouvant leur sécurité relativement à des hypothèses algorithmiques bien étudiées. Mes travaux s'appuient sur la linéarité du chiffrement homomorphe, qui permet d'effectuer des opérations linéaires sur des données chiffrées. Précisément, je suis partie d'un tel chiffrement, introduit par Castagnos et Laguillaumie à CT-RSA'15, ayant la particularité d'avoir un espace des messages clairs d'ordre premier. Afin d'aborder une approche modulaire, j'ai conçu à partir de ce chiffrement des outils techniques (fonctions de hachage projectives, preuves à divulgation nulle de connaissances) qui offrent un cadre riche se prêtant à de nombreuses applications. Ce cadre m'a d'abord permis de construire des schémas de chiffrement fonctionnel; cette primitive très expressive permet un accès mesuré à l'information contenue dans une base de données chiffrée. Puis, dans un autre registre, mais à partir de ces mêmes outils, j'ai conçu des signatures numériques à seuil, permettant de partager une clé secrète entre plusieurs utilisateurs, de sorte que ceux-ci doivent collaborer afin de produire des signatures valides. Ce type de signatures permet entre autres de sécuriser les portefeuilles de crypto-monnaie. De nets gains d'efficacité, notamment en termes de bande passante, apparaissent en instanciant ces constructions à l'aide de groupes de classes. Mes travaux se positionnent d'ailleurs en première ligne du renouveau que connait, depuis quelques années, l’utilisation de ces objets en cryptographie
One of the current challenges in cryptographic research is the development of advanced cryptographic primitives ensuring a high level of confidence. In this thesis, we focus on their design, while proving their security under well-studied algorithmic assumptions.My work grounds itself on the linearity of homomorphic encryption, which allows to perform linear operations on encrypted data. Precisely, I built upon the linearly homomorphic encryption scheme introduced by Castagnos and Laguillaumie at CT-RSA'15. Their scheme possesses the unusual property of having a prime order plaintext space, whose size can essentially be tailored to ones' needs. Aiming at a modular approach, I designed from their work technical tools (projective hash functions, zero-knowledge proofs of knowledge) which provide a rich framework lending itself to many applications.This framework first allowed me to build functional encryption schemes; this highly expressive primitive allows a fine grained access to the information contained in e.g., an encrypted database. Then, in a different vein, but from these same tools, I designed threshold digital signatures, allowing a secret key to be shared among multiple users, so that the latter must collaborate in order to produce valid signatures. Such signatures can be used, among other applications, to secure crypto-currency wallets. Significant efficiency gains, namely in terms of bandwidth, result from the instantiation of these constructions from class groups. This work is at the forefront of the revival these mathematical objects have seen in cryptography over the last few years

Dans ce travail, nous proposons un système de recalage géométrique possibiliste qui fusionne les connaissances sémantiques et les connaissances au niveau du gris des images à recaler. Les méthodes de recalage géométrique existantes se reposent sur une analyse des connaissances au niveau des capteurs lors de la détection des primitives ainsi que lors de la mise en correspondance. L'évaluation des résultats de ces méthodes de recalage géométrique présente des limites au niveau de la perfection de la précision causées par le nombre important de faux amers. L’idée principale de notre approche proposée est de transformer les deux images à recaler en un ensemble de projections issues des images originales (source et cible). Cet ensemble est composé des images nommées « cartes de possibilité », dont chaque carte comporte un seul contenu et présente une distribution possibiliste d’une classe sémantique des deux images originales. Le système de recalage géométrique basé sur la théorie de possibilités proposé présente deux contextes : un contexte supervisé et un contexte non supervisé. Pour le premier cas de figure nous proposons une méthode de classification supervisée basée sur la théorie des possibilités utilisant les modèles d'apprentissage. Pour le contexte non supervisé, nous proposons une méthode de clustering possibiliste utilisant la méthode FCM-multicentroide. Les deux méthodes proposées fournissent en résultat les ensembles de classes sémantiques des deux images à recaler. Nous créons par la suite, les bases de connaissances pour le système de recalage possibiliste proposé. Nous avons amélioré la qualité du recalage géométrique existant en termes de perfection de précision, de diminution du nombre de faux amers et d'optimisation de la complexité temporelle
In this work, we propose a possibilistic geometric registration system that merges the semantic knowledge and the gray level knowledge of the images to be registered. The existing geometric registration methods are based on an analysis of the knowledge at the level of the sensors during the detection of the primitives as well as during the matching. The evaluation of the results of these geometric registration methods has limits in terms of the perfection of the precision caused by the large number of outliers. The main idea of our proposed approach is to transform the two images to be registered into a set of projections from the original images (source and target). This set is composed of images called “possibility maps”, each map of which has a single content and presents a possibilistic distribution of a semantic class of the two original images. The proposed geometric registration system based on the possibility theory presents two contexts: a supervised context and an unsupervised context. For the first case, we propose a supervised classification method based on the theory of possibilities using learning models. For the unsupervised context, we propose a possibilistic clustering method using the FCM-multicentroid method. The two proposed methods provide as a result the sets of semantic classes of the two images to be registered. We then create the knowledge bases for the proposed possibilistic registration system. We have improved the quality of the existing geometric registration in terms of precision perfection, reductionin the number of false landmarks and optimization of time complexity

This thesis is an effort to begin to understand some of the problems and possibilities of architectural production in an age of advanced information technologies. The driving concern behind this work is the increasing distance between our environmental understandings, as they are affected by these new technologies, and the immediate physicality of the world around us. This increasing distance has been further exaggerated by our shift into more and more complex systems of architectural production, making us less and less likely to stay in touch with the full informational content of the physical materials and processes involved in that production. This thesis strives toward an attitude toward design which respects the information and knowledge content of the components and processes of architecture as a complex artifact Part of the attempt here is to consider the opportunities for relaxing the tendency to impose our will insensitively on the true nature of things. It seems that as we alieviate this tendency, we might begin to construct environments which sustain us in more meaningful ways. The thesis itself is composed of six parts: -- Section One discusses developments in the cultural role of museums in recent years and the importance of museums as a way of transferring knowledge. Also introduced in this part is the notion of a host museum; responding to a perceived need for local forums LO foster greater awareness of our physical and cultural environments. -- Section Two introduces the site in Cambridge as an urban setting, including some of its history and its physical and social significance. -- Section Three presents general architectural concerns addressed in the project, illustrated through references and diagrams of design decisions, grouped into five categories of issues, from urban context lO material deployment. -- Section Four elaborates on the setting of these design decisions within the larger context of 'forming', regarding the process of design as a decision structure for the management of physical information. -- Section Five presents the specific design decisions realized in the project (in accord with the five categories established in Section Three) illustrated through plans, sections, detail studies, etc. -- Section Six proposes an understanding of architectural artifacts as manifestations of their decision structure and offers the beginnings of a theory of production based on the exploitation of "cheap information."

Les smooth (ou universal) projective hash functions ont été introduites par Cramer et Shoup, à Eurocrypt'02, comme un outil pour construire des schémas de chiffrement efficaces et sûrs contre les attaques à chiffrés choisis. Depuis, elles ont trouvé de nombreuses applications, notamment pour la construction de schémas d'authentification par mot de passe, d'oblivious transfer, de signatures en blanc, et de preuves à divulgation nulle de connaissance. Elles peuvent êtres vues comme des preuves implicites d'appartenance à certains langages. Un problème important est de caractériser pour quels langages de telles fonctions existent.Dans cette thèse, nous avançons dans la résolution de ce problème en proposant la notion de diverse modules. Un diverse module est une représentation d'un langage, comme un sous-module d'un module plus grand, un module étant un espace vectoriel sur un anneau. À n'importe quel diverse module est associée une smooth projective hash function pour le même langage. Par ailleurs, presque toutes les smooth projective hash functions actuelles sont construites de cette manière.Mais les diverse modules sont aussi intéressants en eux-mêmes. Grâce à leur structure algébrique, nous montrons qu'ils peuvent facilement être combinés pour permettre de nouvelles applications, comme les preuves implicites à divulgation nulle de connaissance (une alternative légère aux preuves non-interactives à divulgation nulle de connaissance), ainsi que des preuves non-interactives à divulgation nulle de connaissance et one-time simulation-sound très efficaces pour les langages linéaires sur les groupes cycliques
Smooth (or universal) projective hash functions were first introduced by Cramer and Shoup, at Eurocrypt'02, as a tool to construct efficient encryption schemes, indistinguishable under chosen-ciphertext attacks. Since then, they have found many other applications, including password-authenticated key exchange, oblivious transfer, blind signatures, and zero-knowledge arguments. They can be seen as implicit proofs of membership for certain languages. An important question is to characterize which languages they can handle.In this thesis, we make a step forward towards this goal, by introducing diverse modules. A diverse module is a representation of a language, as a submodule of a larger module, where a module is essentially a vector space over a ring. Any diverse module directly yields a smooth projective hash function for the corresponding language, and almost all the known smooth projective hash functions are constructed this way.Diverse modules are also valuable in their own right. Thanks to their algebraic structural properties, we show that they can be easily combined to provide new applications related to zero-knowledge notions, such as implicit zero-knowledge arguments (a lightweight alternative to non-interactive zero-knowledge arguments), and very efficient one-time simulation-sound (quasi-adaptive) non-interactive zero-knowledge arguments for linear languages over cyclic groups

Para o Project Management Institute (PMI) "governação é definida como o processo de desenvolvimento, comunicação, execução e acompanhamento assegurando as políticas, procedimentos, estruturas organizacionais e práticas associadas a um determinado programa?. No contexto organizacional, proporciona um quadro para a tomada de decisões e ações de gestão éticas, baseadas na transparência, responsabilidades e papeis bem definidos (Too & Weaver, 2014b). No âmbito específico da gestão de projetos é um garante que o portfólio de projetos está alinhado com os objetivos da organização, e é entregue de forma eficiente e sustentável suportando os meios pelos quais a gestão e outras importantes partes interessadas, recebem a informação oportuna, relevante e fiável (APM, 2004). No presente trabalho é usada para classificar os modelos postos em prática pelo Project Management Office, no apoio a projetos ou programas através dos processos de partilha de conhecimento (Garland, 2009). Na medida em que estudos anteriores referem consistentemente lacunas na investigação nesta área, o objetivo da presente dissertação será assim de examinar o papel estratégico da governança do Project management office e qual a sua verdadeira influência nos processos de partilha do conhecimento entre projetos. Serão ainda observadas as barreiras e motivações para a real e positiva transferência de conhecimento, numa perspetiva em como os gestores de projeto percecionam as políticas implementadas.
For the Project Management Institute (PMI), "governance is defined as the process of development, communication, implementation and monitoring, ensuring the policies, procedures, organizational structures and practices associated with a particular program." In the organizational context, provides a framework for decision making and ethical management actions based on transparency, responsibility and well-defined roles (Too & Weaver, 2014b). In the specific scope of project management it is a guarantee that the project portfolio is aligned with the organization's goals, and is delivered in an efficient and sustainable manner, supporting the means by which management and other key stakeholders receive timely, relevant and reliable information (APM, 2004). In this study it is used to classify the implemented models of the Project Management Office, to support projects or programs in knowledge sharing processes (Garland, 2009). As previous studies consistently refer research gaps in this area, the purpose of this dissertation will be to examine the governance strategic role of the Project Management Office and what is its real influence on knowledge sharing processes between projects. Both obstacles and motivations will also be observed for the real knowledge transfer, in the perception how project managers understand the implemented policies.

This thesis is about the mobilities of geographical knowledge in the material form of lantern-slides and the forces exerted on these by technological and human factors. Owing to its concern with matter, human- and non-human, and its circulation, the thesis addresses the physics of geographical knowledge. The chapters below investigate the Royal Geographical Society’s (RGS) ongoing tradition of telling stories of science and exploration through words, objects and pictures in the final quarter of the nineteenth century and as geography professionalized and geographical science developed. These processes occurred within the context of a plethora of technological innovations, including the combination of the older medium of the magic lantern and photographic lantern-slides, integral to a wide range of entertainment, scientific and educational performances across Britain. In 1886 the RGS began to engage with the magic lantern. Via this technology and the interactive lecture performances in which it featured, I argue that the Society embraced the medium of photography, thereby engendering transformations in methods of knowledge making and to the RGS collections. I study how these transformations influenced the discipline of Geography as it was re-established at the University of Oxford in 1887. I demonstrate the evolution of the RGS’s Evening, Technical and Young Persons’ lectures, their contingent lantern-slide practices and, consequently, how these moulded, and were moulded by, the RGS Fellowship between c. 1885 and 1924. The chapters below explore how these innovations in visual technologies and practices arose, how they circulated knowledge and their effect on geographies of geographical knowledge making. By harnessing the lantern the RGS attracted an expanding and diversifying audience demographic. The thesis demonstrates the interactive nature of RGS lantern-slide lectures and audiences' important role in shaping the Society’s practices and geographical knowledge. The chapters below argue that it was via the use of the lantern that geography was disseminated to new places. The thesis therefore brings additional perspectives and dimensions to understandings of the circulation of geographical knowledge.

L'angiographie par rayons X est la modalité d'imagerie médicale la plus utilisée pour l'exploration des pathologies des vaisseaux coronariens. La routine clinique actuelle repose sur l'utilisation brute des images angiographiques. Pourtant, ces images présentent des défauts tels que le raccourcissement des longueurs, l'effet de grandissement ou la présence de superpositions. Ces faiblesses peuvent fausser le diagnostic et le choix thérapeutique. Nous proposons d'exploiter un nouveau mode d'acquisition angiographique, le mode rotationnel, pour produire des modélisations tridimensionnelles et dynamiques de l'arbre coronaire. Ces modélisations permettraient de s'affranchir des défauts intrinsèques aux images. Notre travail se compose de trois étapes. Dans un premier temps, une reconstruction 3D multi-oculaire donne un modèle statique des lignes centrales des artères coronaires, prenant en compte le mouvement respiratoire. Par la suite, un mouvement 4D des artères coronaires est determiné sur l'ensemble du cycle cardiaque. Enfin, la connaissance des mouvements respiratoire et cardiaque permet de réaliser la reconstruction tomographique des artères coronaires. Nous avons testé notre approche sur une base de 22 patients et avons proposé de nouveaux outils et applications cliniques à partir de ces modélisations tridimensionnelles et dynamiques. Ces outils diagnostiques ont été prototypés et feront l'objet d'une validation clinique.

Several times, in conversation with students, I felt certain disenchantment between them and lhe curricular Physics subject When lhe present essay gol into lhe student's role in lhe teaching and learning process of Physics subject in lhe Mozambican schools taking as reference two public ones of lhe Beira city namely, "Samora Moisés Machel" Secondary School and "Mateus Sansão Mutemba" Secondary School, intends to understand lhe reasons of "disagreement" between students and Physics subject, on lhe one hand, and suggest some actions to be taken in arder to make lhe Phisics teaching become more relevant and more and more interesting and attractive for lhe students, on lhe olhar hand. Starting trom lhe point that students work less in Physics classes, and afiar they've read some authors concerned with lhe students role in lhe teaching and learning process, such as FREIRE (1987), HERNÁNDEZ (1998), ALMEIDA & JÚNIOR (2004), BORDENAVE & PEREIRA (1997), COLL etal (2001) among others, I led a research in arder to observe, record and analyze lhe students activities in lhe Physics lessons in lhe schools above mentioned. Afterwards, I carried out some lessons trough learning method by project in arder to check lhe contribution of this method in lhe performance growth of lhe students in lhe lessons. The conclusions taken trom this research indicate lhe predominance of verb, rhetoric in lhe Physics lessons beside lhe olhar recommended ways for lhe natural sciences teaching. The work projects carried out at school nevertheless its low quantity and quality mirrar a sign of a way to follow in arder to increase lhe performance levei of lhe students in lhe Physics lessons. Therefore, in lhe context of this research, performance of alllevels teachers and education managers is recommended, in lhe research, identification and implementation of all-embracing teaching methodologies which give privilege to lhe activity of lhe learning person in ali processo

A presente dissertação, ao debruçar-se sobre o papel do aluno no processo de ensino-aprendizagem de Física na escola moçambicana tomando como referência duas escolas públicas da cidade da Beira, a saber, Escola Secundária "Samora Moisés Machel" e Escola Secundária "Mateus Sansão Mutemba", pretende compreender as causas do "desencontro" entre os alunos e a Física por um lado, e propor algumas acções a serem realizadas no sentido de tornar o ensino de Física mais relevante e cada vez mais interessante e atractivo para os alunos, por outro. Partindo da hipótese de que os alunos trabalham pouco nas aulas de Física e depois de ler alguns autores preocupados com a questão do papel do aluno no processo de ensino e aprendizagem, tais como FREIRE (1987), HERNÁNDEZ(1998), ALMEIDA & JÚNIOR (2004), BORDENAVE & PEREIRA (1997), COLL et. aI. (2001) entre outros, orientei a pesquisa no sentido de observar, registar e analisar as actividades dos alunos nas aulas de Física naquelas escolas. Em seguida realizei algumas aulas nestas escolas através do método de aprendizagem por projectos com o objectivo de aferir a contribuição deste método no incremento do desempenho dos alunos nas aulas. As conclusões tiradas nesta pesquisa apontam para a predominância do verbo, da retórica nas aulas de Física em detrimento das outras formas recomendadas para o ensino de Ciências Naturais. Os projectos de trabalho realizados na escola, pese embora a sua baixa quantidade e qualidade, representam um indicativo do caminho a seguir no sentido de aumentar o nível do desempenho dos alunos nas aulas de Física Por isso, no contexto da presente pesquisa, recomenda-se o empenho de todos, professores e gestores da Educação em todos os níveis, na pesquisa, identificação e implementação de metodologias de ensino participativos que privilegiem a actividade do sujeito aprendente em todo o processo.

The overall purpose of this thesis is to study, in relation to geography education and with a historical perspective, the challenges of knowing and understanding the world. The cases are all from Sweden. In the first paper, educational ideas in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries are studied, and the results indicate that some of the previously criticised educational ideas that were perceived as resulting from the ideas of nineteenth century regional geography in fact can be observed in earlier centuries and were criticised during the nineteenth century. In the second paper, school children’s ability to locate geographical names on outline maps is compared with children’s ability to complete the same task 45 years earlier. A total of 1,124 students were included in the latter study, and the results were compared with those from a study of 1,200 students from the same town conducted in 1968. The results raise questions regarding the picture of the continuous decline in children’s school results and show, for example, that children today are better at locating continents on a world map. The final paper identifies a new aspect of map reading difficulties. These difficulties in map reading are increasingly important in our global society, i.e., how the edges of the world map cohere. The paper shows that many map readers, children and adults, respond according to the idea of linear peripheral continuity, which indicates that the proposed continuation is along the straight line that continues tangentially to the original route when it crosses the edge. In general, this understanding leads to incorrect interpretations of the continuation of world maps.

The present work is concerned with projective prepositions, which express the relation between two objects by referring to a direction in three-dimensional space. The projective prepositions have been regarded as expressing simple schematic relations of a geometric nature. A theory of the apprehension of projective relations can account for their meanings when they express strictly geometric relations. However, many studies have shown that the appropriateness of the prepositions also depends on the functional relation between the objects and that a number of functional factors influence the comprehension of English prepositions. This experimental study investigates if the acceptability of the Swedish prepositions över, under, ovanför and nedanför are influenced by functional factors as well, and whether acceptability judgments about över and under are more sensitive to functional influences than judgments about ovanför and nedanför, as has been shown for the corresponding English prepositions over and under, and above and below, respectively. It also investigates how the shapes and the parts of the related objects influence their functional interaction, and how the acceptability of the prepositions is in consequence influenced by the shapes of the objects. It was found that the theory of apprehension can indeed account for the acceptability of the prepositions when the relation between the objects is strictly geometric. It was further found that acceptability judgments about them are influenced by functional factors in a similar manner to the corresponding English prepositions when the objects are functionally related, although judgments about under and nedanför are not differentially influenced by these factors. Furthermore, the shapes and the parts of both of the related objects influence acceptability judgments about the prepositions in predictable manners. An extension of the theory of apprehension is suggested which can account for the functional influences indicated in the present study.

Background. Previous research on the investigation of brand personality (BP) can be found to use the personification metaphor of brands through celebrities, occupations and animals. Brand image research aims to discover the human characteristics attached to a brand. In this regard, the author suggests that as music can tell much of the personality of a person, then it would be possible to know the personality of a brand through music. The rationale behind is that music elicits “extramusical” information, such as emotions, values, dress codes and stereotypes of people; in relation to musical-genres. Purpose. This research aims to explore how music can help to produce brand knowledge. In particular how the extramusical information conveyed by musical-genres can be used as language to talk about the personality of a brand. Methodology. The empirical research was developed within an Interpretive research paradigm to learn from the perspective of consumers of hip-hop music in Sweden, how brand knowledge can be obtained from music as cognitive schema (CS). The data was gathered using a mixed-method research design. Two different projective techniques were employed in group sessions. On one session (N=11), visual collages were used to visually represent the brands using images of musicians and their description with brand personality traits. The second session (N=12) consisted of an associative task using music, followed by the application of the brand personality scale. The interpretation and analysis of findings was done through the triangulation of the methods’ data. Conclusions. The use of music genres as CS to produce brand knowledge can provide insightful information on the lifestyle and type of users that buy, consume or wear the brand. Extramusical information helps understand characteristics of BP through the lifestyle and profile of the musician or music-fan that was associated with the brand. In particular, brand knowledge can be gained in terms of demographic and psychographic characteristics associated to the brand. However, several theoretical implications for further research were identified in order to consolidate the BP/consumer/music relationship.

Representações visuais têm sido adotadas na exploração de conjuntos de documentos, auxiliando a extração de conhecimento sem que seja necessária a análise individual de milhares de textos. Mapas de documentos, em particular, apresentam documentos individualmente representados espalhados em um espaço visual, refletindo suas relações de similaridade ou conexões. A construção destes mapas de documentos inclui, entre outras tarefas, o posicionamento dos textos e a identificação automática de áreas temáticas. Um desafio é a visualização de conjuntos dinâmicos de documentos. Na visualização de informação, é comum que alterações no conjunto de dados tenham um forte impacto na organização do espaço visual, dificultando a manutenção, por parte do usuário, de um mapa mental que o auxilie na interpretação dos dados apresentados e no acompanhamento das mudanças sofridas pelo conjunto de dados. Esta tese introduz um algoritmo para a construção dinâmica de mapas de documentos, capaz de manter uma disposição coerente à medida que elementos são adicionados ou removidos. O processo, inerentemente incremental e de baixa complexidade, utiliza um espaço bidimensional dividido em células, análogo a um tabuleiro de xadrez. Resultados consistentes foram alcançados em comparação com técnicas não incrementais de projeção de dados multidimensionais, tendo sido a técnica aplicada também em outros domínios, além de conjuntos de documentos. A visualização resultante não está sujeita a problemas de oclusão. A identificação de áreas temáticas é alcançada com técnicas de extração de regras de associação representativas para a identificação automática de tópicos. A combinação da extração de tópicos com a projeção incremental de dados em um processo integrado de mineração visual de textos compõe um espaço visual em que tópicos e áreas de interesse são destacados e atualizados à medida que o conjunto de dados é modificado
Visual representations are often adopted to explore document collections, assisting in knowledge extraction, and avoiding the thorough analysis of thousands of documents. Document maps present individual documents in visual spaces in such a way that their placement reflects similarity relations or connections between them. Building these maps requires, among other tasks, placing each document and identifying interesting areas or subsets. A current challenge is to visualize dynamic data sets. In Information Visualization, adding and removing data elements can strongly impact the underlying visual space. That can prevent a user from preserving a mental map that could assist her/him on understanding the content of a growing collection of documents or tracking changes on the underlying data set. This thesis presents a novel algorithm to create dynamic document maps, capable of maintaining a coherent disposition of elements, even for completely renewed sets. The process is inherently incremental, has low complexity and places elements on a 2D grid, analogous to a chess board. Consistent results were obtained as compared to (non-incremental) multidimensional scaling solutions, even when applied to visualizing domains other than document collections. Moreover, the corresponding visualization is not susceptible to occlusion. To assist users in indentifying interesting subsets, a topic extraction technique based on association rule mining was also developed. Together, they create a visual space where topics and interesting subsets are highlighted and constantly updated as the data set changes

Höstterminen 2014 Today’s students show great divergences in incentives for commencing studies at an Upper Secondary Dance Educational School in Sweden. The level of the individual`s motivation both during the prelusive and pending stages of the education, shows great variance. The aim of the study is to find a correlation between the individual’s motivation level and the individual´s conceiving of enhancement or deprivation of inner needs. To which extent is the comprehension and consideration towards these needs, a direct agency in effecting the desire for self- engaged and lifelong learning? In which manner can a deeper and wider understanding of the needs for self- actualization, ensure a more sturdy and coherent motivation towards the experience of learning? Through motivation psychology as an angel of approach, the study incorporates the three methods; observation, projective testing and literary studies. Conscious and unconscious personality traits and states are chartered. The conjunction with various sources of stimuli subsequently indicates the deriving of behavior. The study indicates the need of educational practitioner’s insight and understanding towards the individual pupil’s apperception of the social world. Also the study indicates the importance of implementing this knowledge, in ensuring cohesiveness and sustainability of motivation for self- engaged lifelong learning.

Cette recherche interroge le lien affect-cognition chez des adolescents violents, en souffrance scolaire, à travers une dynamique de dépendance vs différenciation cognitive, émotionnelle et psychique. Elle a été réalisée dans deux établissements secondaires dans la région lyonnaise. Trois phases de travail de terrain ont été articulées. La première, exploratoire, s’est intéressée à l’observation du milieu scolaire à travers des entretiens avec des professionnels (N=8). La deuxième, quantitative, a consisté, à l’aide d’un questionnaire, en un recueil de données auprès d’adolescents (N= 112) quant à leurs violences, leurs rapports aux savoirs, leur quotidien scolaire. Des échelles (Questionnaires de Styles cognitifs, SITA et TAS-20) ont également été administrées pour évaluer la dépendance cognitive, l’alexithymie et le second processus de séparation-individuation. La troisième, clinique, a permis de faire un travail approfondi autour de la singularité d’adolescents en difficulté et dits violents (N=6). Elle s’est basée sur des entretiens cliniques et le Rorschach. Les résultats des phases exploratoire et quantitative ont montré un lien entre dépendance cognitive et difficultés scolaires. La violence à l’école associée aux difficultés scolaires est en lien avec une vulnérabilité cognitive, émotionnelle et relationnelle. Quant à la violence seule, sans difficultés scolaires, elle semble au contraire porter un mouvement de différenciation. Les résultats cliniques corroborent l’idée d’une violence scolaire qui vient interpeller le lien. Elle prend valeur d’une recherche de place singulière, de différenciation et de subjectivation. Les dynamiques de dépendance et d’indifférenciation s’intriquent à un fonctionnement cognitif similaire. Une défaillance dans les contenants de pensée vient s’exprimer dans une violence non contenue, comme une recherche de support à la pensée dans le milieu scolaire, à travers un support à la relation. Le rapport cognitif au scolaire s’inscrit dans cette dynamique globale d’un rapport aux contenants, recherchés et mis à l’épreuve dans les interactions avec l’environnement. Cet environnement peine parfois à décoder, à accueillir cette quête, ou à y apporter la compréhension et la réponse adéquate. Ceci fait de l’espace scolaire un espace de lutte pour la différenciation du sujet et par là même un espace potentiel pour créer, en marge parfois des contingences strictement scolaires, un chemin pour l’identité
This research exmines the link between cognition and affectivity on adolescents with school suffuring, trough studying dependency vs differenciation dynamic on cognitive, emotionnal and affective issues. It was conducted in two secondary establishments in Lyon, France. Three steps have been articulated. The first, exploratory, was interested in the observation of the school through interviews with professionals (N = 8). The second, quantitative, was done with a questionnaire to collect data about adolescents’ violence, relationship to knowledge and school. Scales (Cognitive Styles Questionnaires, SITA and TAS-20) were also administered to assess cognitive dependency, alexithymia and separation-individuation second process. The third, clinical, focused the singularity of troubled and violents teens (N = 6). It was based on clinical interviews and Rorschach test. The results of exploratory and quantitative phases have shown a link between cognitive dependence and scholar difficulties. When associated with scholar difficulties, violence at school is linked with a cognitive, emotionnal and relationnal vulnerability. However, violence alone, without scholar difficulties, seems to be rather a sign of differentiation. The clinical results support the idea that school violence have relationship signification. It takes value of research a space force singular differentiation and subjectivity. The dynamics of dependency and lack of differentiation is also explaining similar cognitive functioning. A failure in containers of thought is expressed in a non-contained violence, as a research of support for thinking in schools, through the relationship. Cognitive relation to the school is part of this overall report to the containers witch are researched and tested in dynamic interactions with the environment. Sometimes, environment has difficulies to receive and understand this quest, and to bring appropriate response. So school may be a space of differenciation and subjectivation struggle. It may be a potential space to create, in marge of school contingency, a way for identity

The purpose of my study was to investigate an indigenous form of stone play as a projection medium in child psychological assessment. My theoretical framework was grounded in indigenous psychology. My literature study consulted theory relating to indigenous psychology, indigenous knowledge, play, assessment, asset-based approach and positive psychology. I followed a qualitative research approach, guided by an interpretivist epistemology. I employed an intrinsic case study design and purposefully selected the participant. My data collection methods consisted of interviews with the participant’s mother and observations of the participant during the Masekitlana sessions. I relied on audio-visual methods and a self-reflective journal as methods of data documentation. Six main themes emerged as the result of thematic analysis and interpretation that I have completed. Firstly, I found that during the Masekitlana sessions, the participant mentioned a desire or a huge need for food. Secondly, the participant also experienced conflict in the neighbourhood as a result of living conditions and poverty. This included experiences of peer conflict as well as indirect conflict among adults in the community. Thirdly, environmental factors in the informal settlement came to the foreground, like infrastructure, water supply and housing. In the fourth instance the participant expressed her daily routine of bathing, going to school, doing school work and going home. Fifthly, the participant projected her belief system by mentioning indigenous concepts, such as ‘Naka’ which refers to a sangoma (traditional healer). Lastly positive qualities within the participant are identified as a theme. Masekitlana poses to be a valid projection medium to conduct a psychological assessment with the participant because it provides an authentic psychological image. The standardization of Masekitlana as an assessment medium is suggested. Further research to develop psychological assessment media for children from African origin and culture is needed in South Africa. Copyright

Analyzing the structure of a dataset is a challenging problem in high-dimensions as the volume of the space increases at an exponential rate and typically, data becomes sparse in this high-dimensional space. This poses a significant challenge to machine learning methods which rely on exploiting structures underlying data to make meaningful inferences. This dissertation proposes the n-TARP method as a building block for high-dimensional data analysis, in both supervised and unsupervised scenarios.

The basic element, n-TARP, consists of a random projection framework to transform high-dimensional data to one-dimensional data in a manner that yields point separations in the projected space. The point separation can be tuned to reflect classes in supervised scenarios and clusters in unsupervised scenarios. The n-TARP method finds linear separations in high-dimensional data. This basic unit can be used repeatedly to find a variety of structures. It can be arranged in a hierarchical structure like a tree, which increases the model complexity, flexibility and discriminating power. Feature space extensions combined with n-TARP can also be used to investigate non-linear separations in high-dimensional data.

The application of n-TARP to both supervised and unsupervised problems is investigated in this dissertation. In the supervised scenario, a sequence of n-TARP based classifiers with increasing complexity is considered. The point separations are measured by classification metrics like accuracy, Gini impurity or entropy. The performance of these classifiers on image classification tasks is studied. This study provides an interesting insight into the working of classification methods. The sequence of n-TARP classifiers yields benchmark curves that put in context the accuracy and complexity of other classification methods for a given dataset. The benchmark curves are parameterized by classification error and computational cost to define a benchmarking plane. This framework splits this plane into regions of "positive-gain" and "negative-gain" which provide context for the performance and effectiveness of other classification methods. The asymptotes of benchmark curves are shown to be optimal (i.e. at Bayes Error) in some cases (Theorem 2.5.2).

In the unsupervised scenario, the n-TARP method highlights the existence of many different clustering structures in a dataset. However, not all structures present are statistically meaningful. This issue is amplified when the dataset is small, as random events may yield sample sets that exhibit separations that are not present in the distribution of the data. Thus, statistical validation is an important step in data analysis, especially in high-dimensions. However, in order to statistically validate results, often an exponentially increasing number of data samples are required as the dimensions increase. The proposed n-TARP method circumvents this challenge by evaluating statistical significance in the one-dimensional space of data projections. The n-TARP framework also results in several different statistically valid instances of point separation into clusters, as opposed to a unique "best" separation, which leads to a distribution of clusters induced by the random projection process.

The distributions of clusters resulting from n-TARP are studied. This dissertation focuses on small sample high-dimensional problems. A large number of distinct clusters are found, which are statistically validated. The distribution of clusters is studied as the dimensionality of the problem evolves through the extension of the feature space using monomial terms of increasing degree in the original features, which corresponds to investigating non-linear point separations in the projection space.

A statistical framework is introduced to detect patterns of dependence between the clusters formed with the features (predictors) and a chosen outcome (response) in the data that is not used by the clustering method. This framework is designed to detect the existence of a relationship between the predictors and response. This framework can also serve as an alternative cluster validation tool.

The concepts and methods developed in this dissertation are applied to a real world data analysis problem in Engineering Education. Specifically, engineering students' Habits of Mind are analyzed. The data at hand is qualitative, in the form of text, equations and figures. To use the n-TARP based analysis method, the source data must be transformed into quantitative data (vectors). This is done by modeling it as a random process based on the theoretical framework defined by a rubric. Since the number of students is small, this problem falls into the small sample high-dimensions scenario. The n-TARP clustering method is used to find groups within this data in a statistically valid manner. The resulting clusters are analyzed in the context of education to determine what is represented by the identified clusters. The dependence of student performance indicators like the course grade on the clusters formed with n-TARP are studied in the pattern dependence framework, and the observed effect is statistically validated. The data obtained suggests the presence of a large variety of different patterns of Habits of Mind among students, many of which are associated with significant grade differences. In particular, the course grade is found to be dependent on at least two Habits of Mind: "computation and estimation" and "values and attitudes."

O conhecimento sempre foi, no decurso da História, um factor importante em todas as áreas da sociedade. No entanto, vive-se num tempo em que esse mesmo conhecimento se caracteriza por ser efémero. Existe, então, uma contínua necessidade de um acesso rápido e preciso a esse mesmo conhecimento. Esta “pressão” torna-se mais visível, por exemplo, num contexto empresarial, cujo sucesso é movido, e mantido, através da contínua inovação da instituição e dos seus serviços. O conhecimento, e o acesso ao mesmo, é, inegavelmente, um factor que se encontra intrinsecamente ligado a esse carácter inovador. Indo ao encontro desta necessidade, em 2017, o Grupo Jerónimo Martins começou a desenvolver o projecto da Knowledge Library. Este consiste, em linhas gerais, na constituição e no desenvolvimento de uma biblioteca especializada em Recursos Humanos, cuja finalidade é garantir a partilha e o acesso constantes de conhecimento, auxiliando os seus colaboradores no seu trabalho quotidiano e respondendo, simultaneamente, às suas necessidades informacionais. Desta forma, o presente trabalho, enquadrando-se no campo da Organização do Conhecimento, tem como finalidade dar a conhecer o projecto da Biblioteca, bem como todo o trabalho associado ao desenvolvimento e constituição da mesma. Para tal, procurou definir-se uma base metodológica que respondesse às necessidades específicas de cada etapa de trabalho. Começou por se estabelecer uma abordagem qualitativa, dadas as características do trabalho de estágio, que posteriormente foi complementada com outras técnicas de investigação, como a pesquisa e análise documental e bibliográfica, bem como o método do estudo orgânico funcional. Em termos técnicos, focou-se a questão da organização e representação do conhecimento, através da catalogação, indexação e classificação dos recursos de informação. Foram ainda abordadas questões relativas à identificação, gestão e promoção de acesso à colecção. Por último, foram realizadas análises ao programa de catalogação Libib e à proposta de regulamento da Knowledge Library.
Knowledge has always been an important factor in all areas of society in the course of history. However, we live in a time when this same knowledge is characterized by being ephemeral. There is, then, a continuous need for quick and precise access to this same knowledge. This "pressure" becomes more visible, for example, in a business context, whose success is moved, and maintained, through the continuous innovation of the institution and its services. Knowledge, and access to it, is undeniably a factor that is intrinsically linked to this innovative character. Meeting this need, in 2017, the Jerónimo Martins Group began to develop the Knowledge Library project. This consists, in general terms, in the constitution and development of a library specialized in Human Resources, whose purpose is to ensure the constant sharing and access of knowledge, assisting its employees in their daily work and responding, simultaneously, to their informational needs. Thus, the present work, falling within the field of the Knowledge Organization, aims to make known the library project, as well as all the work associated with its development and constitution. To this end, we tried to define a methodological basis that would respond to the specific needs of each work stage. It began by establishing a qualitative approach, given the characteristics of internship work, which was later complemented with other research techniques, such as document and bibliographic research and bibliographic analysis, as well as the method of functional organic study. In technical terms, the issue of the organization and representation of knowledge was focused, through the cataloguing, indexing and classification of information resources. Issues related to the identification, management and promotion of access to the collection were also addressed. Finally, the Libib program and the proposed regulation of the Library were analyzed.

O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido na Tabaqueira, em contexto organizacional, com o objectivo de identificar a referência na literatura para a metodologia de gestão de projecto desenvolvida pela Philip Morris International, o VSU (Vertical Start-Up). Através da adopção da metodologia case study, foi desenvolvida uma investigação com uma abordagem descritiva e qualitativa, que permitiu um sumário compreensivo do elemento em análise. Identificaram-se as principais metodologias e foram explorados os conceitos daquelas consideradas basilares, o PMBoK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) e o Prince2 (Projects in Controlled Environments 2). Ambas as metodologias foram diferenciadas numa análise comparativa e, posteriormente, excluídas das alternativas para a referência na literatura do VSU. Finalmente, foi identificada a metodologia EEM (Early Equipment Management) como resultado do objectivo de trabalho, tendo sido reconhecidas as similitudes entre ambas as metodologias na abordagem a gestão de projectos. Estas pertencem a três dimensões: as filosofias antecedentes de ambas as metodologias, os seus objectivos e o processo de gestão de projecto.
This work was developed in Tabaqueira, in an organizational context, with the objective of identifying the reference in the literature for the project management methodology developed by Philip Morris International, the VSU (Vertical Start-Up). Through the adoption of the business case methodology, an investigation was developed with a descriptive and qualitative approach, delivering a comprehensive summary of the element under analysis. The main methodologies were identified and the concepts of those considered basic were explored, the PMBoK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) and Prince2 (Projects in Controlled Environments 2). Both methodologies were differentiated in a comparative analysis and, later, excluded from the alternatives for reference in the VSU literature. Finally, the EEM (Early Equipment Management) methodology was identified as a result of the work objective, having been recognized the similarities between both methodologies in the approach to project management. These belong to three dimensions: the antecedent philosophies of both methodologies, their objectives and the project management process.

Perante a necessidade crescente de focalizar o conhecimento informal através da partilha de experiências e do conhecimento implícito dos indivíduos nas organizações, este projecto assume uma proposta de criação de uma comunidade de prática focalizada para os gestores de equipa na administração pública (dirigentes intermédios) que têm como objectivos de desempenho o desenho de novas metodologias de aprendizagem suportadas pelas TIC. A Comunidade de Prática para a Aprendizagem Formal e Informal constitui-se como uma estratégia que visa a incorporação das tecnologias da informação e da comunicação nas metodologias de aprendizagem, de modo a possibilitar a produção de boas práticas passíveis de ser incorporadas em vários contextos e divulgadas no sector público.
New technologies have induced a shift in the paradigm of the way we learn by enhancing the formal and informal learning methodologies provided by social networks and virtual communities. The growing need to focus on informal knowledge through the sharing of people’s experiences and of the implicit knowledge in organisations, is behind this project’s proposal to create a community of practice for team managers in public administration (mid-level managers) with performance goals which include coming up with new learning methodologies supported by the information and communication technologies. The strategy of the Community of Practice for Formal and Informal Learning is to incorporate ICT in learning methodologies so as to create good practices than can be used in various contexts including the public sector.

Este TFM analisa um projecto de criação e transferência de conhecimento realizado em parceria entre uma subsidiária de uma multinacional, a Ecco’let, e uma empresa nacional do sector, a Procalçado. Foi utilizado o Modelo SECI e o “Ba” para explicar como se processa esta criação e posterior transferência de conhecimento entre os parceiros num projecto multi-organizacional. Era expectável que o conhecimento gerado fosse partilhado pelos parceiros, mas a análise do estudo de caso permitiu perceber que existe também transferência de conhecimento entre a subsidiária e a sede da multinacional e as outras subsidiárias do Grupo ECCO. Assim, para além da rede externa à Ecco’let (Ecco’let-Procalçado), o projecto das Solas de Golf em TPU mostrou ainda a existência de transferência de conhecimento para a rede interna da subsidiária. É relevante referir o papel da Procalçado, empresa de capital português, na criação e transferência de conhecimento. A Procalçado beneficia da relação com a Ecco’let, que a desafia e apoia no desenvolvimento de soluções que exigem I&D e geração de conhecimento. Este TFM contribui para a literatura sobre criação e transferência de conhecimento pelo facto de analisar um projecto entre uma subsidiária estrangeira e uma empresa nacional (relativa inexistência de estudos de caso utilizando multinacionais) e por considerar múltiplas direcções no processo de transferência do conhecimento gerado, para a rede interna e externa da multinacional, sem esquecer o conhecimento que fica na empresa localizada no país de acolhimento.
This dissertation analyses one project of knowledge creation and transfer developed through partnership between a multinational foreign subsidiary, Ecco’let, and a national company of the same sector, Procalçado. The SECI Model and the “Ba” were applied to explain how this knowledge creation and transfer happens between partners. It was already expected that the new knowledge would be shared between partners, but the analysis of the case study allowed to observe that there is also transfer of knowledge from the foreign subsidiary to the parent company and to other foreign subsidiaries of ECCO’s Group. This way, besides Ecco’let external network (Ecco’let-Procalçado), the project of Solas de Golf em TPU also showed the existence of knowledge transfer for the subsidiary’s internal network. It is relevant to mention the roll of Procalçado, a Portuguese equity company. Procalçado benefits from its relationship with Ecco’let, that challenges and supports it at developing solutions that request R&D and knowledge creation. This dissertation has contributed to the existing literature about knowledge creation and transfer as it analyses a project developed between a foreign subsidiary and a national company (relatively inexistence of case studies using multinationals) and because it considers multiple directions for transference of the new knowledge, to the internal and external network of the multinational, without forgetting the knowledge that keeps retained at the company located in the host country.

Este documento descreve os projectos realizados no âmbito da disciplina Projecto em Engenharia Informática do Mestrado em Engenharia Informática da Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa. Os projectos decorreram nas instalações da Capgemini Portugal; o estágio teve a duração de nove meses. O primeiro projecto consistiu na elaboração do módulo de facturação electrónica para a aplicação de gestão comercial do ERP da empresa, a SigGC. O módulo divide-se entre o processo de importação de documentos através de um serviço e o processo de exportação através de um mapa especial da aplicação SigGC. O segundo projecto, intitulado Knowledge Base, consistiu em conceber um repositório de conhecimento recorrendo à tecnologia disponibilizada pela ferramenta Sharepoint Services da Microsoft. A sua principal funcionalidade é o agrupamento de informação por sectores categorizáveis O terceiro projecto consistiu na implementação de uma aplicação web de CRM com a capacidade de gerir toda a informação relativa aos clientes de uma empresa, incluindo contactos, oportunidades relacionadas, contratos, preferências e relatórios de visita.
This document describes the work carried through in the scope of the class Projecto em Engenharia Informática (PEI) of the Mestrado em Engenharia Informática (MEI) in Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade de Lisboa. All the work took place at the Capgemini Portugal installations, during nine months. The first project consisted in an electronic billing module to integrate in SIG’s commercial management application. This project is divided in two components, the import component, based on a Windows service, and the export component, implemented on a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with background VBA support. The second project had the goal of designing a knowledge base based on Microsoft’s Sharepoint Services technology. Its main purpose is grouping information by different areas of interest. Finally, last project’s work was to develop a CRM web application capable of managing all the client related information.

A construção da Sociedade de Informação e do Conhecimentotem implicado o desenvolvimento de uma série de projectos e iniciativas um pouco por todo o mundo. Em Portugal tem-se verificado igualmente essa preocupação e a importância da Sociedade em Redeparece estar a dar os primeiros passos, nomeadamente com a criação de diversas iniciativas no âmbito dos projectos Cidades e Regiões Digitais, que envolve actualmente todas as regiões a nível nacional. Este trabalho assenta na análise do Projecto ALO Digital, inserido nas Cidades e Regiões Digitais, que envolve uma série de estratégias ao nível de governo electrónico local nos concelhos de Vila Franca de Xira, Amadora, Loures e Odivelas. O principal objectivo do trabalho incide sobre a análise exploratória do nível de utilização dos serviços electrónicos e do grau de concordância com os mesmos, tendo como alvo os cidadãos residentes nos quatro concelhos. Os resultados demonstram que oProjecto se encontra ainda num nível de sofisticação de serviços on-line abaixo do desejável, uma vez que se situa ainda no nível correspondente à disponibilização de formulários e documentação para download. Além disso, segundo os dados obtidos, onível de utilização dos serviços de governo electrónico é ainda relativamente baixo, apesar dos utilizadores manifestarem uma satisfação global com a utilização dos mesmos. Do mesmo modo, o nível de concordância com os serviços de governo electrónico local é bastante positivo, demonstrando-se uma elevada relação entre o nível de concordância e a modernização e a dificuldade de interacção com o Website, a utilização do serviços do Website, o tipo de serviços utilizados no Websitee a utilização dos serviços de governo electrónico nacional.
Building the Information and Knowledge Society has involved the development of a number of projects and initiatives all over the world. In Portugal there has been a major concern and also the importance of the Network Society seems to be taking the first steps, namely withthe creation of various initiatives under the Digital Cities and Regions projects, which currently involveall regions nationwide. This work is based on the analysis of the ALO DigitalProject, inserted in the Digital Cities and Regions, which invo lves a series of strategies in the locale-government level in the countiesof Vila Franca de Xira, Amadora, Loures and Odivelas. The main objective of the work focuses on the exploratory analysis of the level of use of electronic services and the degree of agreement with them,having astarget the residents in the four counties. The results demonstrate that the project is still at a level of sophistication of online services less than desirable, since it still lies at the level corresponding to the availab ility of forms and documents for download. Moreover, according to data collected, the level of utilization of electronic government services is still relatively low, although users express an overall satisfaction with their use. Similarly, the level of agreement with local electronic government services is very positive, demonstrating a strong relationship between the level of agreement and modernization and the difficulty of interaction with the Website, use of the services of the Website, the type of services used on the Websiteand the use of electronic government services nationwide.

Qualquer organização visa, fundamentalmente, melhorar o seu desempenho através da aplicação, reutilização e reaproveitamento do seu conhecimento organizacional. Este conhecimento deve ser preciso, relevante e temporal, isto é, deve ser aperfeiçoado constantemente, visando, de forma consciente, facilitar a partilha e divulgação do mesmo, de modo a potenciar os benefícios por ele criado. O propósito deste estudo foi identificar os Benefícios da Gestão do Conhecimento numa organização prestadora de serviços na área de Sistemas e Tecnologias de Informação, tendo sido confinado o estudo à área de negócio de realização de projectos. A recolha de dados foi conseguida através da análise documental, da realização de entrevistas semi-estruturadas e de um questionário. As entrevistas foram realizadas à Gestão de Topo e à Gestão Intermédia. Os questionários foram realizados a um conjunto de colaboradores com experiência na participação em projectos. Através da análise aos dados recolhidos conclui-se que apesar de existirem algumas práticas na criação e partilha de conhecimento, a Gestão do Conhecimento não está instituída na organização. Aos dados obtidos aplicou-se um método de Gestão de Benefícios de forma a identificar os benefícios que a Gestão de Conhecimento pode proporcionar. Os benefícios só serão alcançados se a organização definir quais os objectivos de investimento associados aos benefícios e realizar um conjunto de projectos que proporcionem mudanças na forma de trabalhar. Uma das conclusões é que existe a consciência na Organização da importância das práticas da Gestão do Conhecimento no desenvolvimento e melhoramento de produtos e/ou serviços ou no aumento da eficácia dos processos produtivos ou de suporte.
Any organization aim essentially to improve her performance through the application, reutilization and making good use of her organizational knowledge. This knowledge must be well defined, outstanding and worldly, must be constantly improved having in view with conscious manner to facilitate the sharing and divulgation of the same in order to raise the benefits made by him. The purpose of this study was to identify the Benefits of the Knowledge Management on an organization that render services on the Systems and Information Technology area. The study was directed to the business area of making projects. The data gathering was acquired through the documentary analysis, realization of semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire. The interviews were made to the Top and Intermediate Management. The questionnaires were made to a group of collaborators with experience in projects participation. The data analysis concludes that although there are some practices in creation and sharing of knowledge, the Knowledge Management is not institute in the Organization. To achieve data was applied a Benefits method in order to identify the Benefits that Knowledge Management can provide. The Benefits will only be achieved if the organization defines witch investment objectives associate to the benefits, and make a group of projects that provide changes in the way of work. One of the conclusions of this study is that there is a consciousness in the organization of the importance of Knowledge Management practices in the development and improvement of products and/or services and in the increase of effectiveness of productive on either support processes.

O estudo de caso desenvolvido de natureza qualitativa e interpretativa, situa-se no contexto da Educação Pré-Escolar e pretendeu estudar, no terreno da própria prática, O Lugar e o Não Lugar da Expressão Plástica / Artes Plásticas nos Projectos Curriculares e nas acções dos Educadores de Infância. Pretendeu-se assim, compreender a intencionalidade educativa das acções dos profissionais de Educação de Infância no domínio da Expressão Plástica / Artes Plásticas em articulação com a Formação Pessoal e Social da criança, de forma a encontrar uma explicação inteligível para a compreensão do valor atribuído a esta dimensão curricular neste nível de educação. A recolha dos dados empíricos ocorreu em três salas da valência da Educação Pré- Escolar numa instituição de Cuidados e Educação para a Infância privada de solidariedade social, no Porto, tutelada pelo Ministério do Trabalho e da Solidariedade Social. Decorrente da análise e interpretação dos dados recolhidos através da observação naturalista directa e indirecta, em contexto da acção das educadoras de infância e da consulta dos Projectos Curriculares de sala, pode aferir-se da relevância: da natureza da formação inicial e continuada no domínio da Expressão Plástica / Artes Plásticas; de uma atitude activa na procura de formação contínua; do estabelecimento de relações colaborativas com a comunidade; da actualidade e consistência dos pressupostos teóricos fundamentadores e orientadores das práticas das educadoras; do conhecimento da especificidade educacional e artística da Expressão Plástica / Artes Plásticas; da valorização de diferentes géneros e manifestações culturais e artísticas na criação de oportunidades de aprendizagem; e da qualidade e natureza dos espaços, dos materiais, da interacção pedagógica e das propostas lúdico-pedagógicas. Neste sentido, o que acreditamos poder ser verdadeiramente designado Expressão Plástica / Artes Plásticas em contexto da Educação Pré-Escolar são práticas educativas intencionais e integradas de qualidade que assumam relevância para o desenvolvimento individual, da comunidade e da sociedade em geral. Com este intuito é fundamental continuar a investigar e a incentivar o desenvolvimento de acções facilitadoras da valorização e reconhecimento deste domínio do Saber.
This qualitative and interpretative study occurred in the early childhood education context and pretended to study, on the field, the pedagogical intentionality of childhood educators practices and curricular projects in what concerns the articulation between the Visual Arts and the Personal and Social Formation. The main objective of this research was to find an intelligible explanation to the comprehension of the value that childhood educators attribute to this curricular area. The study tried to study the Visual Arts’ place and not place on the curricular projects and practices of childhood teachers. The interest was focused on the identification of the factors that influence the existence or not of the pedagogical intentionality of the Visual Arts in articulation with the children personal and social formation. The study tried also to understand how professionals mobilize the theory that supports the relevance of the visual Arts in Childhood Education. The methodology was configured in a case study and the data collection occurred in three kindergarten classrooms of an institution of the Social Solidarity and Work Ministry guardianship. The analysis and interpretation of the gathered data – by a direct and indirect naturalistic observation and the consult of the curricular projects – conducted envisaging the comprehension about the relevance of: the nature of initial and continuous formation; the childhood educators active attitude on searching continuous formation; the establishment of collaborative relations with the community; the actuality and consistency of the theory that supports the childhood educators practice; the knowledge about the educational and artistic specificity of Visual Arts; the valuation of different kinds of genders and cultural and artistic demonstrations on the creation of learning opportunities; and the quality and nature of spaces, materials, pedagogical interaction and play and pedagogical proposals. We believe that what can be truly designated Visual Arts in Childhood Education are intentional, integrated and quality educative practices that assume relevance to the individual, community and society development. As main implications of the study we consider that’s essential and urgent to continue to investigate and to incentive Visual Arts quality pedagogical practices. These strategies contribute to the valuation and acknowledgment of this knowledge domain in children development and education, and therefore to the teaching and learning process enrichment.

The work focuses on qualitative research of possibilities and limits of the use of picture cards symbols (including Tarot) that would serve the clients in coaching and therapy as a projective technique leading to their deeper self-knowledge and personal development. Respondents told their life story based on picture cards. We show here under what conditions this projective technique brought them new information and inspiration for their self- development, in what forms the method can be applied and what methodical procedures are most effective. The simple clients' description of the selected images did not bring them much substantially new. It began to be more inspirational for them when a consultant added targeted questions, his reflections and hypothetical interpretations, or even explained standard meanings of symbols. Then this technique started to speak to clients more and brought them new impulses. Even more inspiring for them it became, once an element of chance was incorporated - when they pulled out some cards at random. The thesis finally formulates detailed recommended general methodology for projective technique application for personal growth and discusses possibilities and limits of the use of projective methods in coaching, therapy and personal development seminars.
