The aim of the article is to highlight the evolution of ideas in Soviet and modern historiography on (non)perception of scientific traditions of the Kharkiv Imperial University by the Institute of Public Education named after O. O. Potebnya (KhIPE). Research methods: problematic-historiographic, historical-chronological, comparative-historical; principles of systematicity and objectivity. Main results and scientific novelty: for the first time it has been considered in detail how researchers assessments have changed from denying the necessity of mastering the old principles of higher education to the perception of the Kharkiv Institute of Public Education named after O. O. Potebnia as the heir of the pre-revolutionary university with partial preservation of traditions. The coverage in the historical thought of the 20s of the 20th and the beginning of the 19th century of problematic issues related to the establishment and operation of the KhIPE is analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the diversity of opinions and assessments of the KhIPE perceptions of the traditions of the Kharkiv Imperial University. The authors concludes that the traditions of the Kharkiv University were partially preserved in the work of the KhIPE, thanks to the inherited material base, and most importantly, the preserve of the main teaching staff, employees and part of the pre-revolutionary students. In the latter case, the years of 1921–1924 are meant, when some of students who had studied before the university closed in 1919 returned to study and non the latter case, the years of 1921–1924 are meant, when some of students who had studied before the university closed in 1919 returned to study and non-proletarian youth made up a significant proportion of the student contingent. In historical science the KhIPE’s estimation as successor to the Kharkiv University is unstable. Soviet authors focused mainly on the refusal of the leadership of the People’s Commissar of Education of the USRR and the IPE on the forms of the liquidated imperial university. Meanwhile, the contemporary authors, on the one hand, emphasize the voluntarism and failure of the educational reform and 1933 forced restoration of universities by the Soviet power. On the other hand, the idea that the tradition of the Imperial University was more than accepted until recently was considered to be in keeping with the KhIPE traditions. The article is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the most radical reform in the history of domestic universities, the consequences and historical significance of which cause lively discussions among experts. The practical significance of the article is to change the priorities in teaching and promoting the history of the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. The originality of the study is due to the unbiased consideration of a wide range of used historiographical sources (scientific works and journalism). Type of article: theoretical research.

The emergence and evolution of the symbolic space of Kharkiv, one of the largest university centres in Ukraine, represent changes in the urban cultural landscape and the urban narrative of memory. Here, the transformations of sign-space (ritual practices and symbolism) in Kharkiv’s institutions of higher education are traced from the first half of the nineteenth century to the present time. The genesis of sign-space in the city’s institutes of higher education is an example of the transfer of western European university ideas to eastern European terrain, and their further adaptation there. The functioning of sign-space is studied in the fifteen largest institutions of higher learning in Kharkiv today.
University symbols and rituals define a system of views of the modern university, its functions, and its ideals. Building a university sign-space is also interpreted as a competition for the symbolic environment of the city in which it exists. In this way, institutions of higher education seek not only to be represented in the urban milieu, but also to promote the consolidation of a certain part of the surrounding urban community. Kharkiv’s symbolic space as a university city is tightly knit but heterogeneous, representing a complex system and comprising a wide variety of visual and verbal elements. The current forms of visual (self)representation of Kharkiv’s universities are a synthesis of local and borrowed academic traditions. The “commercialization” and “service function” of the modern university clash with the “old” ideals of Enlightenment, a conflict reflected in the symbolic and ritual forms perceived by the university community.

A comparative study of the biography of outstanding doctors and scientists brothers Alexander and Pavel Shumlyansky is presented. It is shown that they made a significant contribution to the development and improvement of higher medical education in the Russian Empire at the turn of the XVIII — XIX centuries. Their activities contributed to the transition from the training of doctors in hospital schools to the academic educational process, which created the basis for the formation of university schools. Oleksandr Shumlyansky developed, and Pavel took part in the implementation of the system of university higher medical education, becoming the first dean of the medical faculty of Kharkiv University.

The purpose of the study is to review the representation of the local and temporal plane of the image of the city in the newspapers of Kharkiv higher education institutions in the 1960–1980s. Th e study uses printed publications of three higher education institutions of Kharkiv – Kharkiv State University and Kharkiv Polytechnic and Aviation Institutes. The research methodology. The study of the temporal dimension of the image of the city is performed following the principles of historical urbanism and imagology. Symbolic markers of urban space have been analyzed using the method of mental mapping. Th e method of oral history has also been used in the study. Th e concept of the outstanding linguist Yu. Shevelyov, who singled out several images of Kharkiv that existed in diff erent periods of its history has come to be the matrix of the study of the temporal image of the city. The scientifi c novelty of the study is that the article explores the image of Kharkiv through the prism of printed publications of higher educational institutions of the city for the fi rst time. The study has discovered that the history of Kharkiv was covered in a rather biased way in the Soviet print media, and some events that were inconvenient for the ruling regime were completely silenced. The presentation of the history of the imperial period of Kharkiv is fully adapted to the Soviet historical concept, in which the vision of the past passes through the prism of class struggle. There is no mention of the Cossack origin of the city and the era of Ukrainization. Instead, the importance of key moments in Soviet history for Kharkiv’s development is emphasized: the establishment of Bolshevik rule and the liberation of the city from the Nazi occupation in 1943. Kharkiv appears to newspaper readers as a largely industrial city and as a center of science and educationaft erwards. Th e brand of Kharkiv is much less mentioned as a city of students and youth. Kharkiv’s urban names are completely dominated by the names of Soviet party fi gures, participants in the struggle against the Nazi occupation, who were not always associated with the city’s past. In general, the mental map of Kharkiv in the pages of periodicals of Kharkiv higher education institutions depicts the city through the prism of Soviet fi gures, values, and symbols. Instead, there is almost no trace of urbanonyms that would be related to Kharkiv’s history. Conclusions. Th rough the prism of the Soviet view, the symbolic space of the city and the idea of its past, relevant to contemporaries, appear on the pages of periodicals of Kharkiv higher education institutions. Th e image of the city disseminated in periodicals served as a repeater of the Soviet vision of history and, in general, contributed to the education of Soviet values in thestudent environment. Modern for readers, Kharkiv looked like an industrial-scientifi c, purely Soviet, denationalized city, the names of objects and monuments of which refl ect mainly the Soviet worldview.

210-th anniversary of Kharkiv University foundation with its medical faculty passed into history. The community is always highly interested in the history of anniversaries because of the “milestones”. Issues of their origin and roots are particularly interesting. Kharkiv University Consortium was created and each member of the consortium tends to define its historical place in a single university space established in the city. As known the collection of finds from Alexandropol Kurgan was stored in the Commission for the Study of Antiquities (St. Petersburg) which was reorganized in the Imperial Archaeological Commission in 1859, and at the same time collection was given to the Hermitage. In 1932 by decision of the Parity Commission items from this barrow were transferred to the Ukrainian History Museum (now the M. F. Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum). The small part of collection was left in the Hermitage for electroplating. During World War II, the Kharkiv’s part of collection became almost negligible, so from more than 4000 finds more than 100 items were survived. After the war part of the collection (about 400 items) kept in the collections of the Archeological Museum of Kharkiv University. All past documentation was lost during the war. In the new inventory books, compiled after the war, the items were marked as numbers 74—88 under the year of receipt 1945. Any notes on the possible reasons for transferring things to university storage are absent.
The collection of Alexandropol kurgan stored in the
Archeological Museum of Kharkiv Karazin national university consists of the 165 round six-petal plaques, 120 seven-petal plaques, 19 round plaques with four holes along the edge, one (and one fragment) round plaque with six holes, 9 bronze crescent pendants, 12 bronze fragments of the ends of crescent and 19 small fragments from them, 64 tubular pierces (intact and in fragments), 7 silver plaques depicting the griffin and the fragment of silver typeset belt.
Full publication of Alexandropol artifacts from the Kharkiv collection would make this complex appropriate to recreate the complete picture of the burial of Scythian chieftain and increase the further development of Scythian studies.

Despite the fact that Ilya Mechnikov was a zoologist, his contribution to the development of medicine is invaluable. The article reveals the details of the biography of this scientist, indicating the fact that his path to medicine was not accidental and began even earlier than his passion for zoology. Also, the article concerns the problem of the role of the Kharkiv University in the formation of Mechnikov as a scientist. Despite the wellknown assertion that this great scientist was self-taught and paved his own way to success in science, for he did not have sufficient resources to show his talents at a provincial university, the authors come to the conclusion that the biographies of Mechnikov’s contemporaries in Kharkiv demonstrate the opposite. Namely, that there were enough resources for young scientists at the Kharkiv University to fulfill their scientific ambitions, however, a series of certain circumstances did not allow the young Mechnikov to take full advantage of all opportunities he could have had in Kharkiv.

The growth, development, selection structure, and condition of Turkish hazelnut in the plantations of the parks of the Kharkiv National Agrarian University were studied in conditions of Kharkiv region. The article analyzes the growth of 22 to 40 years old Turkish hazelnut trees by height and diameter on five sites. In all cases, the hazelnut trees considerably exceeded the oaks by diameter and were slightly behind by the height. The Turkish hazelnut stands had a good selection structure and condition. An integrated approach to assessing the selection value of stands was used. Three of the five observed stands were found to be perspective by a combination of characteristics, i. e. suitable for the forest planting, protective stands creation, and landscaping. In all the surveyed plots, the trees produced viable seeds and seedlings and had a high degree of acclimatization in the Kharkov region.

The article is devoted to the one of the most outstanding scientists of Kharkiv University of the late 19th – early 20th centuries – professor of The History and Philology Faculty of Kharkiv University Mykola Sumtzov. The authors paid attention to the contribution of Mykola Sumtzov in the study of Alexandr Pushkin poetry and his activities to memorialize of poet’s personality in the city of Kharkiv. Mykola Sumtzov’s study of the most famous poetry of Pushkin are analyzed in the article. Sumtzov reviewed and analyzed Pushkin poems in detail, searched for analogues and parallels with the works of other authors. He took interest in creative conditions of the poet, in his special style and in his rich spirituality. Mykola Sumtzov as the most devoted admirer made great efforts to commemorate Alexander Pushkin in Kharkiv. He understood an outstanding importance of Pushkin’s poetry in the development of culture. Sumtzov wrote that in the conditions of early 20th century Russian Empire reality only free culture would promote the development of flourishing Ukrainian culture.

History of development of trade education is represented in the Emperor's Kharkiv university in the first half of ХІХ of century. Methodological basis of publication was made by the historical and dialectical methods of research. It is found out, that the Kharkiv university began work as higher educational establishment that had to give education to future officials. To the volume, in the first decade of functioning of establishment, basic attention applied not on professional preparation of future specialists, but on organizational and economic questions. It is set that at the beginning ХІХ of century faculty advisors on 70 percents consisted of foreigners, however a situation began to change in 20-30th ХІХ of century, due to preparation of young teachers and scientists university. An educational process was taken to listening of lectures and handing over of examinations. Practical employments in an university are entered only from the second half of ХІХ of century At the beginning ХІХ of century only some teachers on own initiative conducted practical employments - rehearsals, where students could get points for the successful stowage of examinations. The analysis of remembrances of teachers and students of the Kharkiv university showed that considerable part of professors had carried out the duties not properly.Students also were not interested in the scientific thoughtful piece of work, what the wretched amount of the student advanced studies, published in the first half of ХІХ of century Moreover, testifies to, most teachers did not even try to bring over listeners to the advanced study. In general, the effective method of motivation of student young people to the studies was a punishment cell. Also, in the Kharkiv university a corruption prospered with that both higher officials and some students tried to contest. It is well-proven that without regard to the constabulary orders set in an university in the days of reign of Nikolay І, in 30-50th, the pleiad of talented scientists that eulogized Ukrainian science was formed. Except that, the first student scientific groups begin in the Kharkiv university to be created, and self establishment will grow into one of centers of the Ukrainian national revival.

The peculiarities of the development of organizational and academic autonomy of Kharkiv Imperial University in 1804–1835 are highlighted. It is shown that during the specified period the dynamics of the university autonomy process was characterized by a decrease in independence. It is proved that during 1804–1814 the institution was characterized by a high level of personnel autonomy. There were appointment and dismissal of teachers and officials, training of professors), managerial and educational autonomy (opening schools, finding teachers, writing textbooks, attracting local funds for educational needs), teaching autonomy ( teachers' free choice of sources for preparation for classes, high level of academic freedoms), publishing autonomy (printing in their own printing house) and student autonomy. The reasons for the change in attitudes towards the university and its independence after 1815 are analyzed (news of the murder of a history teacher by a German student, as a result - fears of youth free-thinking by the Ministry of Education, interference in university life, division of society into supporters and establishments of higher education). The events that became natural for that time are covered. They are the attack of the government and the most reactionary figures (O. Sturdza, M. Magnytskyi, D. Runich, I. Laval, etc.) on higher education and on university autonomy, ignoring the provisions of the democratic statute of 1804, publication in periodicals of articles directed against the independence of universities; dismissal of qualified teachers, reduction of the quality of higher education, etc. The level of organizational and academic autonomy in 1815–1835 is characterized (subordination of the university administration to the trustee, who now controlled all issues of the university; introduction of strict censorship; restriction of freedom of teaching; departure of foreign professors abroad; lack of teaching staff; superior treatment of students; loss of other privileges, etc.). The role of academic freedoms in the development of the student's personality is shown (self-preparation of higher education seekers, fundamental professional training, respect for academic virtues, gratitude of the university). Background. Topicality, objectives, methodology and novelty of the research. The creative achievements of the Honored Art Worker of Ukraine, Professor Shaliko Harehinovych Paltadzhian (1941–2020) are a significant contribution to the history of the development of Ukrainian musical culture and, of course, deserve special attention and thorough in-depth research. However, there is not still any fundamental work about this talented musician, brilliant French horn player and wonderful conductor. The author of this article was lucky to study together with Sh. Paltadzhyan at the Kharkov Conservatory and to work with him until the end of life of this outstanding artist. This essay aims to capture some of the features of the creative portrait of Shaliko Paltadzhian, relying on the few existing reference sources and self-own memories about the artist, and also to emphasize his, in a sense, a unique role in the educational process at the Kharkiv National University of Arts and at Ukraine in general. Accordingly, touching upon the educational, methodological and sociological spheres, the study as a whole adheres to the chronological method of presenting events inherent in the genres of historical and biographical essays and portraits. The main results of the research. We traced the creative path of Shaliko Paltadzhian from his very appearance in Kharkiv in 1959 as an entrant at the Kharkiv Conservatory, where, despite the almost complete impossibility of communication due to the language barrier (the musician was born in Armenian city Gyumri, which was known as Kumayri from the period of the Kingdom of Urartu), he, nevertheless, charmed the examiners with the extra-ordinal expressive sound of his French horn, and until the last decade of fruitful work of this wonderful musician at Kharkiv National University of Arts and the “Slobozhansky” Youth Academic Symphony Orchestra . We consider Sh. Paltadzhian’s working with this orchestra as a new special stage in his conducting activities. Being, at the same time, the leader of the Student orchestra of the Kharkiv National University of Arts and the professional team of the “Slobozhansky” Orchestra, Sh. Paltadzhian, thus, makes the first in Ukrainian musical education sphere practical step in the implementation of a modern project on the introduction of so named “dual form” of vocational training, which joints the instructive process in an educational institution with the practice at the workplace. In addition, he does it long before the official directives (“Slobozhansky” Orchestra already exists 28 years). The example of the “Slobozhansky” Orchestra testifies that the organization of the educational process in a dual form gives a positive result and fully corresponds to modern educational methods: after graduating from the University, the musicians come to new teams as the very well prepared professionals, because they were passing through a “double” school as orchestra students. Shaliko Paltadzhian as a conductor proved this in practice. Conclusions. In perspective, the method of dual form of education can be adapted to any specialization. In our case, the practical bases for this are orchestras (symphony, wind), children’s music schools, music colleges, art faculties at other universities, and so on. “Slobozhansky” Orchestra partially solves the problem of mass moving abroad of the best domestic youth. The orchestra has an interesting creative atmosphere. World-famous conductors, soloists work with him; the collective tours in Denmark, Spain and Italy. Some graduates have already turned down foreign offers and stayed at home in Ukraine. Thus, Shaliko Paltadzhian played a key role in a landmark scientificeducation experiment conducted at the Kharkiv National University of Arts named after I. P. Kotlyarevsky. The weird and wonderful, versatile talent of this bright, charismatic musician is striking. As a Professor at the University, Sh. Paltadzhian taught various educational disciplines in the last decade of his life: opera and symphony conducting, musical instruments studies, arrangements, reading scores. He is also the author of scientific papers and manuals. His brilliant talent and clear human soul will forever remain in our memory.

University-School clusters: Best practices and the prospects for their adaptation to Ukrainian context : the XVIII International Scientific and Practical Conference (14-th Febuary 2020, Kharkiv Univ. of Humanities “People’s Ukrainian Acad”. Clustering of education is one of the answers to the challenges of today. The concept of "clustering" was first introduced in the 1950s mainly in the industrial sector, and in the late twentieth century it became widespread in the social sphere. Clusters are now becoming a key component of national and regional economic development plans. Kharkiv region is the center of implementation of educational clusters in the active role of higher education institutions, which constantly seek to improve the quality of training of competitive specialists. Work experience in the educational cluster has been accumulated at the Kharkiv Physics and Mathematics Lyceum # 27, the main purpose of which is the education and development of gifted and capable pupils. The institution has a system of work with pupils, which involves teachers of higher educational institutions, students. The extra classes’ activities for students are held at the Center for Pre-University Education of Kharkiv National University. In our view, the significant potential in overcoming and minimizing the negative factors that influence the self-realization of gifted students and do not facilitate their "participation" in the development of human capital is in the creation of educational clusters. They envisage the cooperation of various persons who interact with gifted students.

The present article covers the materials about studies and teaching in Kharkiv educational institutions – the predecessors of the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts (KSADA), participation in the educational process during the 1920s–1950s and the creative achievements of the architect Georgy Ikonnikov (1896–1981), his stepson, printing artist Roman Selivachev (1914–1995), as well as G. Ikonnikov’s granddaughter, Yelena Ganenko (born in 1945). The oldest of our characters studied in the 1910s at the Central School of Technical Drawing (now the Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design) in the 1910s, then participated in the Civil War and in WWI. During the 1920s and 1930s he designed about thirty Kharkiv buildings in collaboration with A. Molokin, P. Krupko, V. Bogomolov. Among his works there are such landmark objects as “Lopan Stairs”, student dormitory “Giant”, National University of Construction and Architecture (former building of the State Insurance), Research Institute of Experimental Veterinary, A. Pushkin Drama Theater, M. Skrypnyk House of Culture, etc. G. Ikonnikov taught in the art schools, headed the architectural and construction department of Kharkiv research institute for industrial projects, which created a number of important enterprises for India, China, Syria and other countries. R. Selivatchov studied at Kharkiv Art Institute (1929–1932), designed the expositions of the Svyatogorsk Museum, and later the “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” Reserve, and worked in printing. In 1941 the student of the Kyiv Civil Engineering Institute was drafted into the army. After the war he graduated from Moscow Polygraph Institute. The first and subsequent editions of Ukrainian Soviet Encyclopedias, branch encyclopedic reference books, “History of Ukrainian Art” in six volumes, “Dictionary of Artists of Ukraine”, “Shevchenko Dictionary”, other projects of national importance were designed under his leadership. A lot of them were awarded by the diplomas of International, All-Union and republican book competitions. Among R. Selivatchov’s followers there are graduates of Art and Architectural universities in Leningrad, Kharkiv and Kyiv, members of the National Artists’ Union of Ukraine. However, the desire to be an artist is not always realized. Encouraged by her grandfather, O. Ganenko from childhood posed for his students and dreamed of becoming an artist. One of her portraits decorated the lobby of Kharkiv Art Institute for many years. Finally, she preferred mathematics, taught at Kharkiv University, but remembers unforgettable moments related to Kharkiv Art school.

AbstractThe regular CCD observations of near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) in the Institute of Astronomy of Kharkiv National University were initiated in 1995 within the framework of asteroid hazard problem in collaboration with the DLR, Institute of Planetary Research (Berlin). The main aim of the study is a determination of rotation periods and shapes of NEAs as well as astrometry of newly discovered objects. We also carry out the absolute photometry of NEAs in BVRI bands in order to put constraints on surface properties and to estimate their diameters. The observations are carried out with 0.7-m telescope of the Institute of Astronomy (Kharkiv) and with 1-m telescope of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory (Simeiz) in the standard Johnson-Cousins photometric system. Some observations were made as an optical support of radar observation of NEAs. We present the results of photometric observations of 21 NEAs obtained in 2004-2006 which include asteroid rotation properties, diameters and shapes.

The article is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Kharkоv national t Annotation. The article is dedicated that all changes, significant stages in the development of the construction and architectural industry in Ukraine were an integral part of the activities of the KHISI – KDTUBA – KNUSA team, and often originated thanks to the scientific and scientific and methodological activities of scientific and pedagogical workers. Today, Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (KHNUSA), thanks to the work that was performed and performed by its employees at a high scientific and scientific-methodological level, occupies a leading place among higher educational institutions of the construction profile. Over its 90-year history, KNUSA has trained more than 60 thousand specialists.
The article reflects the main directions of the university's activities - educational, scientific, international, innovative, educational and sports-mass. It was noted that training is carried out in licensed and accredited specialties at the first (bachelor's) level of higher education from 17 specialties, at the second (master's) level - in 12 specialties, at the third (educational and scientific) level – 5 specialties.
Special attention is paid to the achievements in the scientific and methodological solution of innovative educational problems and their implementation in the educational process. Attention is focused on the fact that professional training, a democratic way of life of students are combined with the all-round development of the personality.

The article is devoted to the studying of documentary facts on the history of astronomy of the 1960s. Its purpose is to highlight the events related to the participation of the Kharkiv astronomical observatory in the Soviet space program in a certain period. The chronology of involvement of Kharkiv astronomers in programs on development and functioning of objects «V-67», «Е-7», «Е-8», «L-3», «М-69», creation of artificial Lunodrome, processing of photographic materials, that were obtained by spacecraft «Lunar orbiter 2», «Ranger 7», «Surveyor 1», «Luna-9», «Luna-12», «Luna-13», and «Zond-3» are considered. The directions of scientific research in projects «Altai», «Atlas», «Luks», and others of the Astronomical observatory of O.M. Gorky Kharkiv State University are analyzed. The main tasks that the Kharkiv astronomical observatory carried out in the 1960s were found next: photometric studies of details on the reverse side of the Moon; study of the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of the lunar soil and its optical properties; photometric analysis of certain areas of the lunar surface; photometric calculations necessary for the design of orientation systems of automatic interplanetary stations; study of the luminosity of the lunar surface. The retro-information resources, which were firstly involved into consideration, provided a chronological sequence of events related to the participation of the University observatory in the development and functioning of artificial space objects during the given period. These resources helped to specify the achievements of Kharkiv astronomers in the Soviet program of space exploration and to prove (or clarify) some little-known facts.

The material was collected mostly on the territory of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. In addition, single specimens from Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Hungary, Israel, and Tanzania are there. The collection consists of 659 specimens of 50 species of lappet moths. The half of lappet moths are the part of the butterflies’ assemblage of well-known collector A. S. Lisetskyi, that fully deposited in the Museum of Nature of the Vasyl Karazin Kharkiv National University.

As exemplified by Kharkiv University of Humanities “People’s Ukrainian Academy”, one of the first educational and scientific complexes to have implemented in Ukraine the idea of continuing preparation of a person for life and work in today’s extremely fast-paced world, the author highlights the achievements of this institution during its three-decade-long existence and, most important, indicates mistakes, gaps and problems that inhibit the creation of a unified university-school cluster.

Problem statement. In this study, attention is focused on the Kharkiv theatre development in the 1940–1960’s, the activities of the theatrical entrepreneur Liudvih Mlotkovskyi and the directors of the Kharkov Theatre: Hendrikov, Alferaki, Petrovskyi, Lvov and Shcherbyna. The theatre directors served as intermediaries between the entrepreneur and the Provincial Offices authorities, while addressing issues of organization and contract negotiation with actors, maintenance of theatre premises. They played an important role on repertoire policies controlled with the censorship committee of the Tsar Russia. Research and publications. The subject of Kharkiv theatre as a part of Ukrainian theatre history development in noted period was highlighted in XIX century by the famous writer, literary critic, culture and public activist Hrigoriy Kvitka-Osnovianenko and by Mykola Cherniaiev – a journalist, literary and theatre critic, reviewer of the newspaper “Yuzhnyi krai” (one of the largest provincial newspapers of the XIX century), where his articles about history of theatre organization in Kharkiv was published. In the XX century this period is covered by famous theatre critics: Alexander Klinchin (in the monographs about the Ukrainian theatre prominent figures Mykhailo Shchepkin, Mykola Rybakov, Liubov Mlotkovska), Arkadii Pletniov (in the study “At the origin of the Kharkiv theatre”), Rostyslav Pylypchuk (in “Materials about the Ukrainian theatre history. From the foundation to the beginning of the twentieth century”), Yu. Polyakova (in numerous publications and the preface to M. Cherniaiev’s book “From Kharkiv’s theatrical antiquity”); ethnographers Andrii Paramonov, Volodymyr Titar (in “The materials for the Kharkiv Theatre history of 1780–1934”). The objective of this study is to attempt to supplement the scientific research of famous theatrical scholars (primarily A. Pletnov and M. Cherniaiev) with materials that were found in the Kharkiv region State Archives. The main material. Entrepreneur Liudvig Mlotkovskyi, who headed the Kharkiv theatre from the autumn of 1834 to the spring of 1843, played a significant role in the theatre history of above mentioned period. In 1839 Mlotkovskyi was allocated a piece of land in Kharkiv free of charge to build a theatre. The first stone building of the theater for 1020 seats was opened in 1841. Furthermore, the land was allocated to Mlotkovskyi’s ownership, he was obliged to comply with some terms among which was compulsory that the theatre director was appointed by the governor. As the first director of the new theatre the Count Hendrikov Oleksandr Ivanovych (1806–1881) was elected and approved. Unfortunately, no materials or documents about Hendrikov’s activity in the theatre were found. However, it is known that during the time of his directorship, due to difficulties and debts, the entrepreneur Mlotkovskyi left Kharkiv. The theatre’s premises were first leased to touring troupes (companies), and in 1853, Mlotkovsky donated it to his daughter, the dramatic actress Vera Liudvygovna Mlotkovska-Diukova. Thus, further theatrical activities in Kharkiv were connected with the Diukov’s entrepreneurial family and the managers of the theatre: Alferaki, Petrovskyi, Lviv and Shcherbyna. They faced the difficult task of theatre revival and getting back its fame. Mykola Dmytrovych Alferaki (1815–1860), Collegia Advisor, a nobleman, held the post from 1845 to 1849. As the director, he paid the debts and additionally invested his own money for the theatre development and improvement. From 1849 to 1856 Engineer-Lieutenant Colonel Petrovskyi was the director of the theater. Archival materials describing Petrovskyi’s directorship were located. He tried to save the situation by means of more democratic drama repertoire that was interesting for general public. Mykhailo PavlovychLvov (1819–1867) was the next theatre director appointed. He was an architect, the member of St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, the professor of Kharkiv University. Lvov purchased costumes, scenery, and library; he spent some money to restore the theatre premises. In addition to being in charge of the Kharkiv Theatre, Lvov rented Poltava Theatre and the railway station for 8 years. What his administration was like is not definitely known, but he served as the director to 1857. At the end of 1850’s and beginning of 1860’s the post of the theatre director was taken up by an experienced entrepreneur Ivan Oleksandrovych Shcherbyna (1821–1869). He had the theatre boxes reconstructed, started a permanent ballet company that worked in the theater for 3 years, alternating ballet performances with spectacles of touring companies and the permanent drama troupe stage enters. The time of Shcherbyna directorship at the Kharkiv Drama Theatre appeared to be the most favourable for the Ukrainian repertoire, when along with Russian drama products the plays by Ukrainian authors were staged, such as I. P. Kotliarevskyi, H. F. Kvitka-Osnovianenko, D. Dmytrenko etc. Conclusions. Basing on previously published studies of famous theatre critics and ethnographers and attempting to combine the results of their research with the materials found in Kharkiv State regional archive we conclude: Kharkiv was one of the provincial theatre art centers in the XIX century. Not only theatrical entrepreneurs, but also provincial authorities took part in theatre formation and development. The latters tried to control the repertoire policy through the theatre directors appointed by them. Despite the discouraging conditions connected with the difficulties and censorship oppression some progressive theatre directors, such as Petrovskyi and Shcherbyna, ignored the bans and staged prohibited by censorship dramas. It happened not only for the sake of commercial benefits, but also because the banned drama pieces were the most interesting for the general population, it were modern, democratic and satisfied the needs of the audience. This study does not claim to be complete. Its objectives are to combine some historical finds with modern researches about Kharkiv theatre development, and partly fill in the gaps relating to the activity of the entrepreneurs and directors who headed the Kharkiv theatre in 1840–1860s; the work in this direction will continued.

Alexander Zinovyovich Zlotin was a founder of the Kharkiv School of Technical Entomology, Honorary Chairman of the Kharkiv Entomological Society and author of numerous scientific works and popular books. After graduation, he began to work in All-Russian Research Institute of Plant Protection Chemicals in Moscow, and then worked in the Institute of Sericulture of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine and since 1986 on the Faculty of Natural Sciences in the Kharkiv National Pedagogical University named after H. S. Skovoroda and in the Kharkiv State Zooveterinary Academy. His scientific work mainly concerned breeding and maintaining sustainable populations of gypsy moths, silkworms and Chinese tussar moths. Alexander Zinovyovich Zlotin was an outstanding teacher. Twenty Ph. D. and six Dr. Sci. in biology, technical entomology and animal breeding are among his students. The article summarizes the scientific, social and organizational work of the famous Ukrainian entomologist Alexander Zinovyovich Zlotin. Lists of scientific and educational publications are attached in chronological order. 5 figs, 1 refs.

The role of Kharkiv in providing the country with special equipment is revealed. Detailed biographical information about chief designers of this technique (B. N. Voronkov, N. G. Zubarev, M. N. Shchukin, A. I. Avtomonov, M. D. Borisyuk, A. D. Motrich, M. P. Kalugin, P. I. Sagir, B. I. Kalchenko) provided, their role in the development and improvement of designs of special-purpose machines is indicated. The main technical characteristics of basic models of tractors and prime-movers are presented. The main problems in the production of these types of equipment are mentioned. The article contains information about various modifications of AT-T, their main differences and purposes are indicated. Complete annotated list of drepanids, epicopeids and uranids (Lepidoptera: Drepanidae, Epicopeiidae, Uraniidae) of the collection of Museum of Nature of Vasyl Karazin Kharkiv National University is presented. The material was collected mostly in the territory of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. In addition, several specimens from Germany are there. The collection consists of 438 specimens of 34 species of drepanids, three specimens of one species of epicopeids and six specimens of three species of uranids. The half the number of drepanids and all epicopeids and uranids are the part of the butterflies assemblage of well-known collector A. S. Lisetskyi, that fully deposited in the Museum of Nature of Vasyl Karazin Kharkiv National University.

The purpose of the work was to study the effectiveness of resources and services of the information and educational environment of the university, in particular, the information and educational portal Moodle in distance learning of students. Materials and methods. Two main aspects of the solution of the problem of informatization of education – computerization of educational institutions and acquisition of information and communication competences by scientific and pedagogical staff of universities – were considered. Results and discussion. The article outlines the challenges and possible directions of work in the second aspect, namely the need for academic educators to understand the State’s e-learning policy, how to plan their learning process using information and communication technology, the ability to use innovative pedagogical distance learning technologies and the ability to create new, in-house e-learning resources. The need for continuous professional development of professors in the application of innovative educational technologies was emphasized. Consideration was given to the experience gained in the implementation of the problem of improving the qualifications of scientific and pedagogical staff in the use of information and communication technologies and in the creation of an information and educational environment at the Kharkiv National Medical University through the establishment of the Distance Learning Centre of the Scientific and Training Institute for the Quality of Education of Kharkiv National Medical University. The possibilities of the Moodle information educational portal in the organization of distance learning are considered. One of the types of advanced training – the course on the basics of developing electronic learning courses was analyzed. The definition of an electronic learning course, its structure, main characteristics, an algorithm for creating, approbation and accreditation based on the experience of organizing distance learning at Kharkiv National Medical University are considered. Conclusion. The expediency of introducing distance learning courses into the educational process is argued and the experience of creating and testing a distance learning course in the discipline "Modern problems of biophysics" for students of the dental faculty of Kharkiv National Medical University is discussed

The article attempts to outline the activity of Kharkiv art history school from the time of its formation in the 1900s to the present day. The author reveals the main directions of research of university art history in Kharkiv, as well as figures of museum institutions who were engaged in the study of topical problems of art before the outbreak of Stalinist terror, when Kharkiv art history school was completely destroyed, and its representatives were either shot (F. Shmit, P. Fomin, K. Slipko-Moskaltsiv) or sent into exile (S. Taranushenko, P. Zholtovsky, D. Gordeiev, O. Berladina). It is emphasized that none of them ever returned to Kharkiv. This became a serious obstacle in the restoration of the scientific art history school in the city. This process lasted for a very long time in comparison with other artistic centers, Kyiv and Lviv in particular. The article reveals the traditions of art history science in Kharkiv, laid down in the first third of the 20th century before its destruction in the Stalinist period. The author also shows the changes in the organization of research activities in modern conditions, when university art history has become a thing of the past, and the scientific center has moved to the higher art institution of the city, which became the Kharkiv Institute of Art and Industry (the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts from 2001).The main directions of the development of art history in this higher educational institution of art in Kharkiv are revealed. It is shown that, first of all, Ukrainian studios were resumed as a separate direction and such an outstanding phenomenon of Ukrainian national art as M. Boichuk’s school, destroyed during the Stalinist repressions, was reconstructed. Separate pages about some figures of the glorious cohort of Ukrainian masters who, with their work, personified the bright and tragic era for the Ukrainian creative intelligentsia of the 1920s, namely artist-writer M. Zhuk as well as representatives of the avant-garde phenomenon in the artistic culture of the 20th century in Kharkiv (V. Yermilov, B. Kosarev, A. Petrytsky), were also revealed. Not only was the range of Oriental studies restored, but to some extent expanded, the study of Far and Middle Eastern art was introduced, and the study of Ukrainian art Judaica and Jewish art was brought to the wider modern world. In the Soviet period this was impossible due to the policy of the Soviet power. Ukrainian theater decoration art, Ukrainian school of art photography, contemporary art became new directions. The development of established traditions and deepening of the study of the sacred art and modern art forms are among the prospects for further directions.

More than 200 literary sources were included to this investigation. There are general works by naturalists, floristic lists and distribution data of rare species on the territory of Sumy and Kharkiv geobotanical districts. We concluded that the most works until 1900 were floristic. Howewer, the total number of works provided data about rare species began to increase. From the 30's of the last century, scientists worked in detail with plant geography and taxonomy. The next direction is the study of plant communities, which has been actively developing since the 60's. The nature protection direction began to develop after the establishment the State Committee for Nature Protection in 1967. Since 2000, there has been a sharp jump in the number of works that are somehow related to the flora of dry meadows. Today we can find more conservation works, especially devoted to the study of botanical reserves. It was established that the largest number of works connected with the territories of Kharkiv, Sumy, Bohodukhiv, Okhtyrka, Trostyanets. Since the end of the last century, important centers of long-term research of dry meadows are biological station of the Faculty of Biology of V. N Karazin Kharkiv National University in the village Gaidary (Kharkiv region) as well as biological station "Vakalivshchyna" of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S Makarenko (Sumy region). A common feature of most of the studied works is that the authors write about the need to preserve dry meadows, because due to excessive agricultural activity they are almost completely plowed. In the article, the author, based on the methodological principles of historicism, objectivity, systematics, explored the specific achievements of Kharkiv University scientists, who worked in the first half of the XIX century, in the formation and development of science History of State and Law. Their scientific works, in accordance with the main trend in the genesis of this science at that time, were centered around the law of Kyiv Rus and, in particular, the content of the Rus’ka Pravda (Russian Truth). This area of their activity is studied insufficiently in the scientific literature, both domestic and foreign. This is due to the fact that the main contribution to the development of these issues was made in the second half of the XIX century – then a significant number of works on this topic was published, which provided an opportunity for their systematic analysis. The activity of scientists of this university in the first half of the XIX century concerns the period of formation of historical and legal science. Hence the main shortcomings of their work: a certain fragmentation in the coverage of problems, a narrow historiographical base, the hypothetical nature of some theses. Professor Uspenskyi was the first who started working on the history of law at Kharkiv University and considered the question of “the antiquity of Russian laws and their dignity”. At that time, scholars of many universities in the empire had to prove the authenticity of the Rus’ka Pravda and those laws that was not yet generally accepted. O. Kunitsyn, a professor of Kharkiv University, also expressed some doubts in this, although he cannot be attributed entirely to the supporters of the “skeptical school” in Russian historiography. O. Paliumbetskyi made the most significant contribution to the development of historical and legal science at that time at Kharkiv University. He conducted one of the first comparative studies of Old German and Old Rus law, convincingly showed their differences, some influence of German law on Russian, which he considered insignificant. Quite thorough and one of the best was his study of treaties between Rus and Byzantium in the X century. Based on the provisions of these agreements, the scientist made a successful attempt to determine the essence of some of Old Rus laws, in particular on revenge, compensation to the victim and court evidence. Most of his arguments were tested over time and are not disputed by modern scientists. Scientists-lawyers of Kharkiv University in that period did not form a separate scientific school, as happened at the University of Kyiv due to the activities of M. Ivanishev, but they worked in line with the then prevailing paradigms in Russian historiography, and made a certain contribution to the formation of historical and legal science. Therefore, their scientific activity deserves further study.

Community-based mental health care options, including mental health provided at the primary health care level are currently limited or absent in the mental health system. Psychosocial support, as well as self-care and mental health promotion are also insufficiently developed. Covid-19 pandemic is serious challenge for health care system, especially for consultation liaison psychiatry.ObjectivesMental health monitoring and psychological support in University Clinic of Kharkiv National Medical University, Ukraine during COVID-19 epidemic.MethodsHADS, SCL-90, HDRS, HARSResultsDuring COVID-19 epidemic, implemented combination of off-line and eye-to-eye methods of mental health monitoring and psychological counselling for patients and medical staff in University clinic of Kharkiv National Medical University. Model of early detection and management of mental disorders based on multidisciplinary teamwork principles, сombination of off-line and eye-to-eye methods of screening, monitoring and psychological counselling for patients and medical staff. The online format proved beneficial because many patients of University clinic have trust issues and preferred not to deal with psychiatric services locally when it comes to mental health problems and it was accessible on epidemic conditions. An important part of the outreach work by the project was to destigmatize mental health problems.ConclusionsCombined model (off-line and eye-to-eye services) of mental health care is preferred compare to traditional approach in modern conditions.

The aim of the work is to determine the molecular profile of sensitization to house dust mites in children with bronchial asthma in the Kharkiv region. Object and methods of study. 42 children aged from 6 to 18 years were under observation. Evaluation of the sensitization profile was performed by the method of multicomponent photometric analysis ALEX. Results and discussion. Boys predominated among the patients — 76 %. Patients had intermittent (46 %), mild persistent (31 %), moderate persistent (15 %) and severe persistent asthma (8 %). Allergic rhinitis was noted in 88 % of patients. Elevated IgE levels were observed in 69 % of patients. The median IgE is 385.50 [122.75; 991.00] kU/L. Sensitization to house dust mites was detected in 23 (54 %) patients, of which monosensitization — 10 %; co-sensitization with other aeroallergens — 44 %. Among pediatric patients in the Kharkiv region, the leading sensitization is sensitization to D. farinae (44 %) and D. pteronyssinus (48 %). Molecular sensitization profile: Der f1 — 38.1 %; Der f2 — 38.1 %; Der p1 — 33.33 %; Der p2 — 38.1 %; Der p5 — 14.29 %; Der p7 — 16.67 %; Der p10 — 9.52 %; Der p20 — 2.38 %; Der p23 — 26.19 %. Only minor components (Der p5, 7, 10, 20 or 21) were found in 7.14 % of patients, which proves the need for molecular diagnosis when prescribing immunotherapy. Among the «new» allergens for our region — Blomia tropicalis — sensitizationin 11.9 %; molecular profile: Blo t1 — 2.38 %; Blot 10 — 9.52 %; Blo t21 — 4.76 %. Isolated cases of sensitization to ticks Glycyphagus domesticus, Tyrophagus putrescentiae, Lepidoglyphus destructor have been identified. Conclusions. Differences in sensitization to molecular components of house dust mites in children of the Kharkiv region were proved . It should be taken into account in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with allergic diseases. Key words: bronchial asthma, sensitization, house dust mites, molecular components.

The specific features of the research work organization in continuing education complex are characterized. The conclusions are made about the fact of disbalance between the method of organization and supervision of students research work of students in educational complexes «school-university». History of the Department of World Literature of H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University dates back to 1805 – from the day the Pedagogical Institute was founded in the structure ofKharkovUniversity. It existed for more than a hundred years as part of the institute as a department of Russian literature. After the revolution of 1917, when the Kharkov Institute of Public Education was created, from 1924 to 1934 the department was headed by an outstanding scientist and literary critic then professor, and later academician Alexander Ivanovich Beletsky. The authors of the article pay special attention to the school of acad. A.I. Beletsky, who, with his many years of scientific and pedagogical activity, laid a solid foundation in the development of the science of literature inUkrainefor many decades to come. The authors connect the new, modern, stage in the research work of the department, in the activities of cathedral scientific schools with the beginning of the 1990s, when the so-called “perestroika” and the processes of democratization and publicity associated with it began, and when the university was created as much as possible favorable conditions for research work. It was then that a new generation of scientists and teachers came to the department, new leaders and new scientific schools appeared. This new stage in the history of the department is associated with the fruitful scientific, pedagogical and research activities of such scientists and their scientific schools, as Doctor of Philosophy, prof. L.G. Frezman (1935 - 2018), Doctor of Philosophy, prof. M.F. Getmanets (b. in 1923), Doctor of Philosophy, prof. E.A. Andrushenko (b.1968) and Doctor of Philosophy, prof. A.S. Sylayev (b. 1952). Over the years of stable work at the department, since 1978, graduate school and doctoral studies, the heads of the above scientific schools, as well as other teachers of the department have prepared more than 100 candidate and 14 doctoral dissertations. With its many years of fruitful activity, scientific schools of the Department of World Literature of H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian literary Russian studies, to the training of language teachers, as well as young scientific personnel – candidates and doctors of sciences.

Problem statement. The article is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of famous Ukrainian conductor, Honored Artist of Ukraine, Professor Israel Solomonovich Shteiman (1901–1983), who devoted more than 55 years of his life to opera conducting. The musician is also famous by his skills in training of opera singersactors to their professional activity, as a head of Opera Studio under the Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts (former Kharkiv Conservatoire and the Kharkiv National University of Arts now). However, in addition to short lines of newspaper chronicles covering the theatrical life of Kharkiv city at that time, the brief background information collected in the archives of art institutions of the city and single memoir pages of his contemporaries (Shasha, 1991; Chepalov, 2012), there are still no special studies on the artist’s work. At the same time, these few sources provide an opportunity to recreate a holistic picture of I. S. Shteiman’s activities as a conductor of the Opera Studio under the Kharkiv National University of Arts and highlight one of the pages of its historical development, which is the goal of this article. The research methodology is based on the ways of analysis and systematization that were used in working with factual material; generalization and historical reconstruction when referring to opera productions by I. S. Shteiman in striving to characterize him as a musician-teacher. The results for discussion. In the period after II World War, many famous conductors worked in the Opera Studio under the Kharkiv Conservatory, but the activity of Israel Shteiman was the most fruitful, long and outstanding one. From 1944 until the end of his life, he was one of the leading conductors of M. Lysenko Kharkiv Opera and Ballet Theater. A characteristic feature of Shteiman-conductor was the ability to penetrate deeply into the composer’s creative concept, an impeccable sense of taste, an attentive and sensitive attitude towards the singer. Having started working at the Vocals Department of Kharkiv Conservatory in 1947, since 1953 I. S. Shteiman became the Opera Studio’s conductor, and from 1973 to 1979 – the Head of Opera Training Department at I. P. Kotlyarevsky Kharkov Institute of Arts. When working with students, I. S. Shteiman infected them with love for creative process, showed and knew how to emphasize the individuality in each of them. Among I. S. Shteiman’s students – Peopl’s Artists of the USSR N. Tkachenko, M. Manoilo, T. Alyoshina, People’s Artists of Ukraine and Russia V. Arkanova, L. Solyanik, L. Sergienko, Honored Artists of Ukraine V. Tryshyn, A. Rezilova, Y. Danilchishin... Since late 1960s, a new trend has emerged in the Opera Studio’s repertoire policy associated with growing interest in the creative work of contemporary composers. Thus, Studio productions of the operas by A. Nikolaev “At the Price of Life” (1967), A. Spadavecchia “The Road to Calvary” (1970), A. Kholminov’s “Optimistic Tragedy” (1972) were called to life by I. S. Shteiman. He believed that a deep disclosure of modern themes requires new thinking not only by composers, but also by singers, and it is crucial to develop this in young actors based on modern repertoire only. Continuing the course for revival of Soviet classics, to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Great Victory, I. S. Shteiman together with director L. Kukolev, staged V. Gubarenko’s opera “The Revived May”. The directors managed to reveal vividly all the strengths of the talented opera by this contemporary Ukrainian composer. Farther, the performers of the main parts were successfully working on various opera stages at Ukraine and abroad. Conductor I. S. Shteiman’s individual approach to working with each performer led to positive results – a high performance culture that ensured his performances’ long and successful life and high-quality professional training of singers-actors. From 1982, even after the stopping of his active conducting work, to the end of his life, Israel Shteiman was a professor-consultant at the Opera Training Department of the Kharkiv State Institute of Arts, continuing his life and creative mission – “to awaken of an artist in every musician”… (S. Kussevitsky). Conclusions. So, I. S. Shteiman dedicated practically all of his life to opera conducting. The memorable date is an occasion to analyze and appreciate his contribution to the very difficult and extremely important task of professional education of the opera singers, to pay tribute of respect and gratitude to this extraordinary man and musician. As one of the leading conductors of the Kharkiv M. Lysenko Opera and Ballet Theater, I. S. Shteiman had extensive experience of collaboration with prominent opera performers of his time. His conducting work was distinguished by a subtle understanding of the composer’s idea, a huge artistic taste. All these qualities were reflected in his fruitful work with student creative teams, which was always characterized by an individual approach to performers, by the ability to convey to them the will of the composer, as well as his own creative thought aimed at educating of high musical culture, by the ability to discover the artistry and creativity energy of the young musicians. Thus, the long-term conducting work by I. S. Shteiman played a huge positive role in the professional education of the brilliant constellation of the singersactors of the Kharkiv opera scene, in the formation of the tradition that opens wide creative prospects for graduates of the Kharkiv opera’s school also and in modern world music culture. The extraordinary personality of the talented conductor, who has educated more than one generation of singers-actors for work on the professional stage, will remain in the hearts of those who respected and loved him for a long time.

Background. The present of the national musical culture is characterized by a kind of synthesis between imitation of the original folk-instrumental traditions with the latest ideological models and performing means. The art of bandura players also occupies a proper place in the development of academic folk instruments of Ukraine. A prominent place in the diversity of ensemble groups of large forms is occupied by the bandura band “Sun” of Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts, whose artistic director and conductor is a famous and talented bandura player, senior lecturer at the Department of Folk Instruments of Ukraine, Kharkiv National University of Arts Nadiya Melnik. The band has a unique performance portrait, relatively long creative path and its own genre and style specifics of development. Today the band is the only large educational bandura ensemble in Kharkiv, which presents the performing traditions of Sloboda Ukraine but, unfortunately, in the musicological discourse there are no studies on the creative activity of this artistic association, analysis of development specifics and its role in the development of bandura performance of Ukraine, which determines the relevance of the article. Many scholars such as: L. Yashchenko, V. Umanets, R. Kiyanovska, A.Ivanysh, T. Cherneta and others studied the development, the stages of formation and the specifics of activities of large bandura groups in Ukraine. The main attention of musicologists and bandura practitioners is devoted to the activities of powerful and leading large ensembles and bandura groups. Among them there are National Honored Bandura Band of Ukraine named after G. I. Mayboroda, bandura choir “Magician” of the Dnipro Academy of Music named after M. Glinka, bandura choir “Lyubava” of Poltava College of Arts named after M. V. Lysenko and others. However, the study of the creative activity of the bandura band “Sun” of Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts under the direction of N. V. Melnyk, which today has a strong potential and vividly represents the bandura performance not only of Kharkiv, but of Ukraine as a whole remains unnoticed. The purpose and objectives of the article are to highlight the main stages of formation and specifics of the creative activity of the bandore band “Sun” as a bright representative of modern bandura performance in Kharkov. To achieve this goal, the following tasks must be completed: – to identify the main stages of development of the bandura band “Sun”; – to analyze the performance and repertoire of the bandura band “Sun”; – to determine the specifics of the development of creative activity of the bandura band “Sun”. Methods. To achieve this goal and solve the main tasks of the article, the method of artistic and scientific research was used. Results. Basing on the method of art research, it was found that at the present stage the band is the only large group that represents the bandura performance not only of Kharkiv but also in the Sloboda region. Significant events in the artistic life of the participants are marked, which characterize the main milestones in the history of formation and development of the band: the period of the band, the first state recognition of bandura conductors as a professional artists, creation of a bandore band for the first time, winning the laureate title (I place at the all-Ukrainian competition which is called “Ring, bandura” (Dnepropetrovsk, 2004)). The synthesis of traditional performance forms with modern elements of music, combination of vocal and instrumental material and dramatization, melodic recitation, artistic experiments etc. is characteristic for the work of the artistic team. Conclusions. Summarizing all what is written above, we can say that the bandura band “Sun” is a powerful highly professional team with its own performance and drama approach, genre and style features and specific development features: combination of vocal-instrumental material and theatrical performance, melodic, etc. The high appreciation of the bandura players’ creative activity by the leading musicologists of Ukraine and the popularity of the famous artistic group testifies to its recognition in the musicological circle and among the fans of bandura performance in Kharkiv and in Ukraine as a whole.

The aim of the proposed article is to cover the life and scientific achievements of Leon Tsenkovsky (1822–1887), a prominent microbiologist, botanist, bacteriologist, traveler, theorist and scientist-practitioner, a talented teacher, creator of his own vaccine against anthrax in Russia, one of the most prominent researchers of primitive organisms at that time. The authors of the article came to the conclusion that the scientist occupies a forward position among the Polish scholars, who were working during the statelessness of Poland and brought glory to their homeland. The narration of the material is presented in the context of the main stages of the scientist's life – „Warsaw”, „Petersburg”, „Yaroslavl”, „Foreign”, „Odessa”, „Kharkiv”. Particular attention is paid to the Kharkiv period of the scientist's life, when he proved himself as a talented scientist-practitioner, creating the so-called „Tsenkovsky vaccine”, which was not inferior in effectiveness to Pasteur's invention. It is demonstrated that in addition to scientific activities, he was engaged in public and teaching activities at the Imperial University and Kharkiv Veterinary Institute. The memory of Leon Tsenkovsky in Kharkiv is immortalized on the pages of a calendar dedicated to prominent Polish scientists associated with the city, as well as in a commemorative plaque that will be unveiled at the former Kharkiv Veterinary Institute in autumn 2021 and dedicated to the prominent Poles, creators of veterinary medicine in the territory of East of Ukraine.

In the article, which continues the discourse of ethnocultural frontier, the attention is focused on the facts and problems referring to the Ukrainian-Russian cultural frontier of Eastern Ukraine. Polyethnic character of the society initially, since the mid 17th century, determined the presence of two culture-forming components in the region, namely Ukrainian and Russian ones, the dynamics of their correlation in various historical periods, the motion of transitive forms and ambivalent conditions. (The Jewish element acquired the essential function in the ethnocultural system of the region later, mainly in the 20th century.) In the frames of the so-called Kharkiv school of romantics a unique linguocultural situation, not deprived of paradoxicality, was formed, in which Ukrainian-Russian bilingualism objectively performed as one of the factors shaping the development of the Ukrainian literature. From this perspective, the article conducts the diachronic analysis of the main stages of the literary process in Ukrainian Slobozhanshchyna, mainly in its center, Kharkiv. The researcher focuses on such issues and phenomena as the role and signiƗ cance of Kharkiv University founded in 1805; Kharkiv periodicals and collections in the Russian and Ukrainian languages; the activity of such influential figures as H. Skovoroda, H. Kvitka-Osnovianenko, P.Hulak-Artemovskyi, I. Sreznevskyi, M. Kostomarov, O. Potebnia, etc.; contradictory and dramatic literary life in Kharkiv of the national cultural Renaissance epoch in the 1920s and early 1930s (‘Executed Renaissance’) and during the subsequent periods. The ‘Donbas segment’ of the eastern ethnocultural frontier, with its history being much shorter than the Kharkiv one though also abundant with contradictions, is considered in the synchronic aspect, in comparative contrast of the diferent writers’ fates and creative phenomena, including the background of the modern dramatic situation in the region.

The article examines the prospects for the introduction of distance technologies in the educational process of higher educational institutions. The scientific works of leading scientists in the field of distance education were analyzed. The research is based on the use of the Delphi method. The theoretical foundations of the introduction of distance education in universities are considered. The main tendencies in the development of the educational sphere in the world and implementation of the elements of the remote education in it were studied. The special role of students as one of the main stakeholders in education is outlined. The main experts in this study are students as one of the main stakeholders in education. During the study, it became clear that the majority of students of Karazin University, namely 75% of them, are positive about the introduction of distance education. The article places the emphasis on defining the benefits and revealing the weaknesses of the distance form of education. It should be mentioned that some of the respondents believe that distance learning alienates people from society, adversely affects cultural development of a person, can lead to deterioration of communication skills, and reduce the level of social activity. However, the overwhelming majority is convinced that distance learning will in no way affect the socialization of people in society. In accordance with the results of the survey, a convenient study schedule was developed for students who combine work and study. A range of distance learning tools were reviewed in order to specify the most convenient ones as related to the principle of clarity when acquiring new knowledge. The main trends in the development of distance education at Karazin University in 2030 are highlighted.
