With the growing importance of e-learning and increased competition among e learning providers, website designers must cater to users' needs more accurately. Interfaces need to provide the features users demand to experience an optimal learning environment. This empirical research investigates whether the function of specific e learning features are either basic, performance related, indifferent, or attractive. The Kano model is applied to examine the impact of 73 e learning features on satisfaction. 1,034 completed questionnaires from an online survey distributed to economics and business students are the basis for the assignment to the Kano factors. Results show that among others, basic features include learning statistics, sample exams, and videotaped lectures. Educational videos are seen as an attractive factor. In terms of different groups of learners, findings confirm that Bachelor students are more demanding than Master and Doctoral students. Additionally, importance ratings allow recommendations for an implementation sequence for the features examined.

Анотація:

PDM är ett system, byggd på hård-och mjukvara, som förenklar informationshantering under konstruktionsfasen av produkter. Denna typ av system möjliggör spridning av kvalitativ information på ett säkert och strukturerat vis. Organisationer som på ett strukturerat och systematiskt sätt arbetar med produkt- och processkvalitet har en fördel när det gäller konkurrens och tenderar att nå stora framgångar. I denna studie undersöks om ett PDM-system kan användas som ett kvalitetsverktyg i den tillverkande industrin. Undersökningen genomförs med bland annat empiriska studier om kvalitet och PDM-system. För att få en förståelse i produktframtagningsarbetet genomfördes intervjuer med personer involverade i konstruktionsarbetet där de fick berätta om sina erfarenheter. Studien avslutades med en riskanalys enligt miniriskmodellen för att besvara vår frågeställning. Studien visade att ett Product Data Management system har en kvalitetshöjande effekt, främst inom informationskvalitet, som direkt påverkar produktkvaliteten. Arbeten som genomförs under konstruktionsfasen av en produkt blir mer strukturerade och underlättar förbättringar av befintliga produkter.
PDM is a system, built on hard- and software, that simplifies the handling of information during the design phase of product development. These types of systems enable distribution of qualitative information in a safe and structured way. Organizations that work with product- and process quality in a structured and systematic manner tend to achieve great success and a competitive advantage. In this study we have investigated if a PDM system can be classified as a quality tool in manufacturing industries. The report is based on empirical studies regarding quality and Product Data Management. To get an insight and understanding about the development of a product interviews were held with people involved in the design process. At the end of the study a risk analysis was made according to the mini risk model to answer our initial question. The result of the study indicates that a Product Data Management system has a quality enhancing effect, mainly on the quality of the information, that directly affects the quality of the product. The work being done during the design process becomes more structured and simplifies the continuous improvement of the product.

Le présent mémoire porte sur le traitement médiatique de trois affaires (affaire Nagy, affaire Banon et affaire du Sofitel) concernant des allégations de violence sexuelle à l’endroit de Dominique Strauss-Kahn (DSK), ancien directeur du Fonds monétaire international (FMI) et homme politique français. À partir de l’analyse d’articles parus en France et aux États-Unis entre 2008 et 2012, aux moments-clés de ces affaires, plusieurs constats ont été effectués. D’abord, le cadrage des évènements et des protagonistes a changé avec le temps. Ensuite, plusieurs débats ont été soulevés dans le contexte de ces affaires, notamment sur le féminisme et sur la distinction privé/public. Enfin, on observe des similitudes et des différences entre les médias français et américains dans le traitement de ces affaires. Le mémoire propose une réflexion sur la distinction privé/public et sur le concept de « scandale sexuel ».
This thesis is about the media coverage of three scandals (“affaire Nagy”, “affaire Banon” and “affaire du Sofitel”) in which allegations of sexual violence were brought against Dominique Strauss-Kahn (DSK), former Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and French politician. Articles published in newspapers in France and the United States from 2008 to 2012, at the key moments of those scandals, were analyzed. From these, several conclusions were made. First, the framing of the events and of the protagonists changed over time. Second, many topics were debated in the context of those scandals, including feminism and the distinction between the public and the private. Third, similarities and differences were observed between the French and the American media. This thesis offers a reflection on the distinction between the public and the private and on “sex scandals”.

In this thesis we have studied the structure of the kaon using the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with the proper-time regularisation scheme to simulate the effect of quark confinement. The separate contributions of each flavour to the elastic form factor are calculated with and without the effect of dressing at the quark-photon vertex. In comparison with the existing experimental data, our model shows a remarkable agreement. We found the contribution of the anti-strange quark sector form factor of the kaon dominates for Q² ≥ 1.6 GeV², whereas the contribution of the u-quark sector form factor of the kaon is larger for Q² ≤ 1.6 GeV². Clearly the difference in quark masses leads to a dramatic difference between the anti-strange quark and the up quark contribution to the kaon form factors. We observed the structure of the kaon with a particular interest in the effects of the larger mass of the strange quark. At present, a detailed understanding of the pion and kaon structure is hampered by the rather small sample of experimental data. It is known that uᴋ is somewhat at softer that uπ in large-x valence region, which we will show is a natural consequence of the larger mass of the spectator strange quark in the K⁺. While at the present time, one does not know the separate flavour contributions to the kaon elastic form factor and one may hope that it will prove possible to measure them in future. Given the phenomenological importance of the Drell-Yan-West relation (DYWR), it is certainly of considerable theoretical interest to compare the flavour dependence of the large-x PDFs with corresponding large-Q² behaviour of the separate flavour contributions to the elastic form factors. We also investigate the effect of the spectator quark mass on the PDF for a given quark flavor, finding satisfactory agreement with the experimental ratio uᴋ+(x) / uπ+(x) . We conclude with a discussion of the relationship of the large-x behaviour of a PDF and the high-Q² behaviour of the contribution to the elastic form factor from the same quark. The comparison of the asymptotic behaviour of the individual flavour form factors and parton distributions is fascinating. While all elastic form factors in the NJL model behave as 1 / Q² at larger Q², as already noted, the total K⁺ and π⁺ form factors only differ by about 10% in that region. As a reflection of the DYWR, we conclude that this dominance of the elastic form factor for the s-quark [s with macron] at large Q² is mirrored in the dominance of the strange PDF at large-x, with sᴋ+(x) / uᴋ+(x) [s with macron] 3 : 1 at large-x.

The result of an experiment performed at the PEP e⁺e^- storage ring which operated at 29.0 GeV/c² is presented. The DELCO detector, which emphasizes Cherenkov particle identification, is used to measured the production of charged kaons in τ decays. The branching ratio of the Cabibbo-suppressed decays b(τ^± → K^± ν_τ) = (0.57 ± 0.15)%, b(τ^± → K^± ν_τ + nπ⁰) = (1.59 ± 0.23)% n ≥ 0, and b(τ^± → K^±π⁺π^-ν_τ(π⁰)) = (0.22^+0.16_-0.13)% are measured, and the branching ratio of the Cabibbo-favored decay b(τ^± → K⁺K^-π^±ν_τ) = (0.22^+0.17_-0.11)% is measured. These branching ratio measurements provide a test e - µ - τ universality and are in agreement with and the predictions of SU(3) sum rules. The invariant mass distribution of the K⁺K^-π system in the exclusive τ^± → K⁺K^-π^±ν_τ channel is used to set a limit of 157 MeV/c² at 95% CL on the τ neutrino mass.

Анотація:

Strangeness production in ultra-relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions is one of the most important probes of hot and dense nuclear matter. Yields and spectra of hadrons carrying strangeness are being studied over a broad range of energies. A remarkable result is that the yields of strange hadrons appear to be in chemical equilibrium in nucleus-nucleus collisions in contrast to observations in elementary collisions. The first part of this thesis is dedicated to the reconstruction of charged kaons in central Pb+Au collisions at the top SPS energy with the CERES pectrometer. The analysis scheme is based on the reconstruction of the decay of charged kaons in three charged pions. This approach is, with the exception of the pioneering work of the NA35 experiment, applied for the first time in ultra relativistic heavy ion collisions for the charged kaons reconstruction. In total 102k K+ and 57k K- were reconstructed in 24.3M central Pb+Au collisions. The mid-rapidity yields are 31.8 for K+ and 19.3 for the K-. These results together with K-/K+, K+/pi+ and K-/pi- ratios are compared with the existing results from NA49, NA44, NA57 and CERES measurements as well as with thermal model predictions. The second part of this thesis is devoted to the study of fast Transition Radiation Detectors (TRD). Results of a stand alone simulation study of the performance of a TRD detector with gas chamber read out in terms of electron-pion separation as a function of the main parameters of the radiator and readout detector are shown. The optimization of the detector was based on the requirements of the CBM experiment. A comparison of simulated energy deposition to experimental data is presented.
