Cette thèse analyse la littérature arabe de l’exil et de la migration produite au tournant de la « crise des réfugiés » de 2015, à travers un corpus de six romans dont les auteurs diffèrent par leurs sexe, âge, origine, notoriété et statut migratoire. L’étude vise à décrire l’émergence d’une nouvelle esthétique migrante construite autour de l’expérience polyvalente et multiforme du refuge, en identifiant les différents éléments de continuité et de discontinuité qui relient la fiction contemporaine au canon littéraire du passé. Focalisée sur des romans qui puisent dans la littérature de harraga (Taytānīkāt afrīqiyya d'Abū Bakr Ḥāmid Kahhāl et Anāšīd al-milḥ d'al-'Arabī Ramaḍānī), la première partie met en évidence les liens entre les textes qui relatent l'expérience de la migration clandestine et ceux qui se concentrent sur l'exode des demandeurs d'asile, en faisant ressortir le même type de discours critique à l'égard de la forteresse Europe et des hiérarchies établies par le système humanitaire. Concentrée sur les concepts de vulnérabilité, traumatisme et résilience, la deuxième partie est consacrée aux réalités du transit et de l'immobilité. This thesis analyses the Arabic literature of exile and migration produced at the turn of the 2015 "refugee crisis", through a corpus of six novels whose authors differ in gender, age, origin, notoriety and migratory status. The study aims to describe the emergence of a new migrant aesthetic built around the polyvalent and multifaceted experience of "refuge", identifying the different elements of continuity and discontinuity that link contemporary fiction to the canon of the past. Focusing on two novels that draw on the tradition of harraga literature (Abū Bakr Ḥāmid Kahhāl's Taytānīkāt afrīqiyya and al-Arabī Ramaḍānī's Anāshīd al-milḥ), the first part of this work sheds light on the links between texts that recount the experience of clandestine migration and those that focus on the exodus of asylum seekers, bringing out from them the same kind of critical discourse towards Fortress Europe and the hierarchies established by the humanitarian system. Linking the concepts of vulnerability, trauma and resilience, the second part is devoted to the realities of transit and immobility, and analyses the spaces of exception embodied by Palestinian refugee camps (Ḥuzāma Ḥabāyib's Muḫmal) and pre-revolutionary Syria, characterised by a dual reality of regional shelter and repression (Rūzā Yāsīn Ḥasan's Ḥurrās al-hawāʼ). The third part sheds light on the experience of asylum in Europe (Hudā Barakāt's Barīd al-layl and Alī Badr's Āzif al-ġuyūm), allowing the reader to explore the anti-hegemonic representations of notions such as hospitality, identity, belonging and citizenship

Анотація:

Este trabalho procura mostrar novos conceitos em intervenções e materiais de construção nas restaurações de monumentos históricos. Caso especial da Kahal Zur Israel (primeira sinagoga das Américas), o que motivou a restauração deste monumento. Qual era o contexto histórico da época, o histórico do monumento em si mesmo, quais foram os critérios de intervenção adotados, baseados nas práticas restaurativas dos novos teóricos e guardando algumas das recomendações das cartas patrimoniais existentes. Explanar sobre as descobertas arqueológicas feitas, com o objetivo de conseguir informações, para execução de um projeto de intervenção correto e adaptado às necessidades de uso atual, salvaguardando o bem patrimonial, bem como promover a auto-sustentabilidade do empreendimento, adquirir suporte financeiro para a sua sobrevivência e conservação. O procedimento levou em conta outros monumentos, onde foi observado o emprego de materiais modernos, utilizados com a finalidade de adaptar os monumentos para usos contemporâneos onde o comércio, o turismo, os serviços, as comunicações e o conforto ambiental são imperativos, isto sem perder os seus valores culturais no sítio histórico. Também descreve e destaca os materiais modernos dos antigos, não criando falso histórico nem falso artístico. Exemplo bem dado pelo novo bloco anexo complementar, situado ao fundo da Sinagoga. Em geral, os materiais de construções modernos, dão um novo sentido de intervenção aos monumentos.
This study shows new restoration concepts about interventions and construction materials used in historical monuments. The study views the specific case of Kahal Zur Israel (first synagogue of the Americas), and what exactly motivated the restoration of this monument. Some questions considered were: which was the historical context of the time? What was the history of the monument in itself? Which were the intervention criteria adopted, based on the newest theories, while at the same time preserving some of the present recommendations of the heritage letters? The study also described some of the archaeological discoveries that were carried out with the objective of gathering information to best execute the restoration project. The intervention tried to adapt the present necessities of the locale, preserve its historical value, and promote its financial self-sustainability. The procedure included considerations done on other monuments where modern materials were used so that contemporary uses could be adapted (commerce, tourism, services, communications and environmental comfort). At the same time the preservation of the cultural values of the historical center was observed. Moreover, the procedures show and differentiate the modern materials from the old, avoiding a false representation of the historical and artistic value of the locale. A good example of this at Kahal Zur Israel, is the complementary annexed bloc, situated in the depths of the synagogue. In general, modern building materials give a new sense of intervention to the monuments.

Анотація:

Les affinités entre Gibran Khalil Gibran et William Blake se manifestent incontestablement par leur personnalité et leurs idées. En effet, de nombreux extraits de leurs œuvres nous ont montré qu'il y a beaucoup de ressemblances dans leurs idées. Ils développent la même conception du poète en tant que prophète. Ils font les mêmes réflexions concernant la nature qui est le reflet de la réalité divine. De plus, Gibran rejoint Blake dans sa révolte contre l'église et le clergé ainsi que contre les valeurs fondamentales et les éthiques conventionnelles. Beaucoup de caractéristiques de la pensée de Blake telles que l'amour de la beauté et la libre recherche de la beauté se retrouvent également dans l'œuvre de Gibran. Gibran Khalil Gibran a joué un rôle important dans la modernisation de la littérature arabe. Il s'est révolté contre les genres et les thèmes poétiques classiques. Il a adopté la strophe, suivi un rythme léger et a inventé "la prose poétique". Il a renouvelé la poésie et la prose arabes par ses thèmes nouveaux, ses images et mots hautement lyriques
The affinities between Kahlil Gibran and William Blake manifest themselves undeniably with regards to personality and thought. The two men share many of their personal qualities. Besides, comparison between numerous passages of the two poets ‘writings have shown us that there are many resemblances in their ideas: they developed the same conception of the poet as being a prophet; they made the same reflexion concerning nature's being a mirror of the divine reality. Moreover, Gibran joined Blake in his revolt against the church and the clergy; against common values and conventional views of ethics. All the Blakian characteristics: love of beauty and freedom of range in quest of it, are also to be found in Gibran’s writings. Gibran Kahlil Gibran played an important role in the modernization of Arabic literature. He rejected the classical poetical forms and themes. He followed rhythm, wrote stanza poetry, and invented the "poetical prose". The new themes and the highly lyrical images and words he introduced have revitalized Arabic poetry and prose

The research, literary and philosophical perspective, historical and sociological analysis in the sacred Gibran Khalil Gibran Arabic cultural context, from the original work in English and best-selling book The Prophet. The goal is to identify and highlight the sacred and its various aspects and manifestations at the thought of Gibran Khalil Gibran. The study aims to contribute to the academy and the Brazilian society and take the first steps through the knowledge of the Arabic legacy of mission life and works of the philosopher, artist, poet and mystic. The analysis is relevant to the text, so the context of produce from experiences from the study of Arabic language and acting as Protestant missionary in the Kingdom of Morocco and Egypt in the years 1992 to 2001. From Rudolf Otto and Mircea Eliade, As theoretical references, the researcher worked literature literary method.
A pesquisa, numa perspectiva literário-filosófica e histórico-sociológica, analisa o Sagrado em Gibran Khalil, Gibran no contexto cultural árabe, a partir da obra original em inglês e best-seller The Prophet, O Profeta. O objetivo é identificar e destacar o Sagrado e seus diversos aspectos e manifestações no pensamento de Gibran Khail, Gibran. O estudo visa contribuir com a Academia e a sociedade brasileira e dar os primeiros passos no conhecimento do legado árabe, através da missão de vida e nas obras do filósofo, artista, poeta e místico. As análises são pertinentes ao texto, portanto, contexto do produzir a partir de vivências provenientes do estudo da língua árabe e atuação como missionário protestante, no reino do Marrocos e Egito, nos anos de 1992 a 2001. A partir de Rudolf Otto, e Mircea Eliade como referenciais teóricos. O pesquisador trabalhou através do método de pesquisa bibliográfica literária.

Анотація:

Ageing in Africa and the world over is a phenomenon that affects individuals and societies. The expanding older population (people aged 60+) in South Africa led to this research, which represents an attempt to explore the experiences of loneliness of older persons in Africa and thereby gain some understanding of the subjective experiences of loneliness of a group of older African persons in their socio–cultural context. Defining loneliness from the existing literature was challenging since it became evident that loneliness in the literature is defined and researched largely in terms of individual meanings attached to the concept, and the applicability of such individual meanings to an African context remains unconfirmed. Experiences of loneliness are not well known among older Setwana–speaking persons, and few studies have focused on collectivistic experiences as such. Loneliness is considered a complex, contextual experience that goes beyond the individual and also includes culture as an inseparable aspect of people’s lives. Conceptualising loneliness as a socially constructed phenomenon places this study within the paradigm of phenomenology exploring people’s experiences. The philosophy of ubuntu relates to being in the world among others thus creating the concept of a social self. In essence, to be a self, one has to belong to a community, and one is always contextualised as an existence among others in interaction. A qualitative design was used together with a purposive convenience sampling method whereby the participants were selected on the basis of their availability during the research period. The participants’ ages ranged from 61 up to 73, and the sample included 16 female and two male participants. Two data sets were collected at different times from members of the Day Care Centre for the Aged in Ikageng, Potchefstroom, South Africa, as well as community residents who did not attend the centre. Various qualitative techniques were used to collect the data including the Mmogo–methodTM, in–depth individual interviews and focus groups. Multiple methods were employed for analysing the data including phenomenological analysis, key–words–in–context and analysis strategies as stipulated by the Mmogo–methodTM. The rigour of the data was enhanced through the use of diverse qualitative data–gathering methods as well as an array of qualitative analysis methods in a process known as crystallisation. Ethical approval was granted by the Ethics Committee of the North–West University, Potchefstroom Campus, under a larger project, “An exploration of enabling contexts (05K14)”. The researchers constructed two main themes from the findings: descriptions of loneliness and coping with loneliness. Loneliness related to the self and to others, and coping with loneliness involved actively engaging with the environment, being with others and using coping strategies. Some of the findings are linked to the existing literature, and some are unique relating to being with others and including social embeddedness as a multi–layered phenomenon connected to experiences of loneliness - it is here where the literature falls short in clarifying the findings within our context. Suggestions are made for future research, and some of the limitations of the study are pointed out. To conclude: Loneliness is a multi–dimensional phenomenon that older Batswana people experience on many levels of engagement with and disengagement from the self and others.

Анотація:

The fictional works of American author Nathaniel Hawthorne and the Arab writers, Mohammadd al-Muwaylihi and Kahlil Gibran share an interest in allegorical landscapes which respond to political and religious tyranny. Throughout their novels, we encounter historically specific images of political corruption and religious oppression located among the urban settings of Salem, Rome, Cairo, Paris, Baalbek, and Beirut. In this thesis, these settings are considered as cultural landscapes: geographical sites which are perceived and presented allegorically within a socio-political frame. These landscapes are drawn on both realist and symbolic levels. Nathaniel Hawthorne presents the shameful burden of religious and political oppression. In works such as The Scarlet Letter and The Marble Faun where is characters are engaged in a rebellion against their cultural institutions to show the defects of such religious and political institutions. For Hawthorne, Boston forest becomes a place that witnesses the birth of the new female rebel to defy the very foundations of the Puritan society. Rome becomes a historical setting where crime survives during the course of the rise and fall of civilisations as reflected in art galleries, churches and ruins: a reality of human destruction that is equally recognized by American and European characters. Al- Muwaylihi’s Hadith Isa Ibn Hisham draws a socio political picture of Egyptian life through the representation of nineteenth century Cairo with its complex streets and buildings. In his second part of the book, al- Muwaylihi presents a journey from Cairo to Paris in which his characters, brutalized by colonial practices, seek the values of modernity at the heart of Europe. Such a journey defied the political and Islamic institutions of his age. For al- Muwaylihi, Parisian sites are symbols of technology and modernity, while Cairo emblematizes the city of conflict as the inhabitants face new social changes through encounters with the European colonizers.
