Jingmen tick virus (JMTV) is an arbovirus with a multisegmented genome related to those of unsegmented flaviviruses. The virus first described in Rhipicephalus microplus ticks collected in Jingmen city (Hubei Province, China) in 2010 is associated with febrile illness in humans. Since then, the geographic range has expanded to include Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil, and Uganda. However, the ecology of JMTV remains poorly described in Africa. We screened adult ticks (n = 4550, 718 pools) for JMTV infection by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Ticks were collected from cattle (n = 859, 18.88%), goats (n = 2070, 45.49%), sheep (n = 1574, 34.59%), and free-ranging tortoises (Leopard tortoise, Stigmochelys pardalis) (n = 47, 1.03%) in two Kenyan pastoralist-dominated areas (Baringo and Kajiado counties) with a history of undiagnosed febrile human illness. Surprisingly, ticks collected from goats (0.3%, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.1–0.5), sheep (1.8%, 95% CI 1.2–2.5), and tortoise (74.5%, 95% CI 60.9–85.4, were found infected with JMTV, but ticks collected from cattle were all negative. JMTV ribonucleic acid (RNA) was also detected in blood from tortoises (66.7%, 95% CI 16.1–97.7). Intragenetic distance of JMTV sequences originating from tortoise-associated ticks was greater than that of sheep-associated ticks. Phylogenetic analyses of seven complete-coding genome sequences generated from tortoise-associated ticks formed a monophyletic clade within JMTV strains from other countries. In summary, our findings confirm the circulation of JMTV in ticks in Kenya. Further epidemiological surveys are needed to assess the potential public health impact of JMTV in Kenya.

The Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov (JMAK) equation is frequently used to describe phase transformations involving nucleation and growth. The assumptions used in the derivation of this equation, however, are frequently violated when making experimental measurements; use of the JMAK equation for analyzing such data can often produce invalid results. Finite-size effects are among the most serious of these problems. We present modified analytic JMAK equations that correct for the finite-size effects and are roughly independent of both the sample shape and the shape of the growing nuclei. A comparison with computer simulations shows that these modified JMAK equations accurately reproduce the growth behavior over a wide range of conditions.

Jingmen tick virus (JMTV) and the related jingmenvirus-termed Alongshan virus are recognized as globally emerging human pathogenic tick-borne viruses. These viruses have been detected in various mammals and invertebrates, although their natural transmission cycles remain unknown. JMTV and a novel jingmenvirus, tentatively named Takachi virus (TAKV), have now been identified during a surveillance of tick-borne viruses in Japan. JMTV was shown to be distributed across extensive areas of Japan and has been detected repeatedly at the same collection sites over several years, suggesting viral circulation in natural transmission cycles in these areas. Interestingly, these jingmenviruses may exist in a host tick species-specific manner. Vertical transmission of the virus in host ticks in nature was also indicated by the presence of JMTV in unfed host-questing Amblyomma testudinarium larvae. Further epidemiological surveillance and etiological studies are necessary to assess the status and risk of jingmenvirus infection in Japan.

The classical JMAK equation was modified by combination with distribution density of the rate parameter k, which was deduced from a normal distribution of local strain. The modified equation is able to calculate the JMAK plots and the average Avrami exponent to characterize the entire heterogeneous recrystallization process. This new extension can successfully describe the relevant experimental observations, such as a smaller exponent than the basic JMAK theory predicts, and a decreasing slope of JMAK plots with the proceeding recrystallization. Moreover, it reveals that the Avrami exponent observed experimentally should significantly decrease with the increasing standard deviation of local strain distribution. In addition, it has a great potential to explain why most of experimentally observed values of Avrami exponents are less than 2 and why the Avrami exponent is insensitive to temperature and deformation conditions when the real standard deviation of local strain distribution in deformed metals is known.

The kinetics of diffusion-dependent phase transformations (including austenitisation of ferrite in dual steels or ferritic nodular cast irons) is very often described by the Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov (JMAK) equation. This description is not complete when the conversion is only partial due to insufficient overheating, as the equilibrium fraction of ferrite transformed into austenite cannot be determined directly from the JMAK equation. Experimental kinetic curves of partial austenitisation at various temperatures can be fitted using the JMAK equation, but the equilibrium fraction of the newly formed phase for each temperature has to be calculated as a regression parameter. In addition, the temperature dependence of the kinetic exponent in the JMAK equation is quite complicated and cannot be expressed by a simple general function. On the contrary, the equation of autoinhibition used for the description of austenitisation kinetics in present work directly gives the equilibrium fraction at partial conversion. It describes transformation kinetics at various temperatures independently of whether the conversion is complete or partial. Rate constants of the equation of autoinhibition depend on temperature according to the Arrhenius equation. In addition, the equation of autoinhibition has no weakness as the JMAK equation has, which consists in questionable temperature dependence of kinetic exponent.

We obtained a Jingmen tick virus (JMTV) isolate, following inoculation of a tick pool with detectable Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) RNA. We subsequently screened 7223 ticks, representing 15 species in five genera, collected from various regions in Anatolia and eastern Thrace, Turkey. Moreover, we tested specimens from various patient cohorts (n = 103), and canine (n = 60), bovine (n = 20) and avian specimens (n = 65). JMTV nucleic acids were detected in 3.9% of the tick pools, including those from several tick species from the genera Rhipicephalus and Haemaphysalis, and Hyalomma marginatum, the main vector of CCHFV in Turkey. Phylogenetic analysis supported two separate clades, independent of host or location, suggesting ubiquitous distribution in ticks. JMTV was not recovered from any human, animal or bird specimens tested. Near-complete viral genomes were sequenced from the prototype isolate and from three infected tick pools. Genome topology and functional organization were identical to the members of Jingmen group viruses. Phylogenetic reconstruction of individual viral genome segments and functional elements further supported the close relationship of the strains from Kosovo. We further identified probable recombination events in the JMTV genome, involving closely-related strains from Anatolia or China.

The Jake Mandell Tone Deaf Test (JMT) is an online measure designed to evaluate pitch discrimination in the normal population. The test has been available online since 2006, but no psychometric data have been published. The present research was designed to provide validity and reliability data for this test. Study 1 was conducted in university students, and the performance on the JMT was compared to the AMUSIA online screening tests. Correlations were high with the subtests of the AMUSIA online screening tests, but especially with the Tone discrimination test. Study 2 was conducted in children, and the JMT was compared to different tests of musical abilities. The JMT showed a good relationship with the Tone Discrimination and Rhythm Imitation subtest, but especially with the global score of musical abilities. In addition, the test showed good one-year test-retest reliability. Finally, external validation of the JMT was obtained by noting that musicians obtained higher scores than non-musicians. Discussion is focused on the possibility of using the JMT as a rapid screening measure of individual differences in pitch discrimination in the normal population.

AbstractEvolution for the dynamic recrystallization (DRX) volume fraction of Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-3Cr-1Zr near β titanium alloy during hot deformation was characterized by using the Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov (JMAK) equation. To determine the equation parameters, a series of thermal simulation experiments at the temperature of 1023–1098 K and strain rate of 0.001–1 s‒1 to the true strain of 0.7 were conducted to obtain the essential data about stress σ and strain ε. By further transforming the relationship of σ versus ε into the relationship of strain hardening rate dσ/dε versus σ, two characteristic strains at the beginning of DRX (critical strain εc) and at the peak stress (peak strain εp) were identified from the dσ/dε-σ curves. Sequentially, the parameters in the JMAK equation were determined from the linear fitting of the different relationships among critical strain εc, peak strain εp and deformation conditions (including temperature T, strain rate $\dot \varepsilon $ and strain ε). The as-obtained JMAK equation was expressed as XDRX=1-exp[-0.0053((ε-εc)/εc)2.1], where εc=0.6053εp and εp=0.0031$\dot \varepsilon $0.0081exp(28,781/RT). Finally, the JMAK equation was implanted into finite element program to simulate the hot compression of thermal simulation experiments. The simulation predictions and experimental results about the DRX volume fraction distribution showed a good consistency.

A Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK)-model was established for dynamic recrystallization in hot deformation process of 52100 steel. The effects of hot deformation temperature, true strain and strain rate on the microstructural evolution of the steel were physically studied by using Gleeble-1500 thermo-mechanical simulator and the experimental results were used for validation of the JMAK-model. Through simulation and experiment, it is found that the predicted results of DRX volume fraction, DRX grain size and average grain size are in good agreement with the experimental ones.

This study examined whether intraluminal thrombus in abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) is a source of fibrinolytic activity and proteolysis that could weaken the aneurysm wall. Plasmin, tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), and urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) activity, plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1), and α2-antiplasmin (α2AP) antigen were measured in the AAA wall and juxtamural and luminal aspects of intraluminal thrombus in 18 patients. The aneurysm wall contained 100-fold higher tPA activity (1.06 ± 0.34 [standard error of measurement] U/mg soluble protein) compared with juxtamural thrombus (JMT) (0.011 ± 0.001 ) and luminal thrombus (LT) (0.01 ± 0.001) ( p < .00001) and over 6-fold higher uPA activity (29.3 ± 3.4 IU/mg compared with the JMT (4.3 ± 2.4, p = .00024) and LT (7.9 ± 1.76, p = .0005). The LT had significantly lower levels of PAI-1 (1.26 ± 0.34 ng/mg) than the AAA wall (2.08 ± 0.51, p = .04) and the JMT (3.94 ± 0.85, p = .007). The levels of α2AP in the wall (19.4 ± 3.1 ng/mg) were lower than in the JMT or LT (43.0 ± 7.9 ng/mg, p = .013, and 47.6 ± 6.0 ng/mg, p = .002, respectively). There was no significant difference, however, in plasmin activity among the AAA wall, JMT, and LT. There were significant amounts of latent gelatinase B (matrix metalloproteinase [MMP]-9) in the AAA, JMT, and LT. Mean levels of activated MMP-9 activity were similar in the AAA, JMT, and LT. Plasmin activation of MMPs at the interface between intraluminal thrombus and the aneurysm wall may enhance proteolysis and accelerate aneurysm expansion.

Nucleation is a phenomenon associated to the start of the new phase, from a primary phase, named matrix. Growth is the increase in size of this new phase over time. In metallic materials, the nucleation may take place on the grain boundaries of the primary phase. A network of Kelvin polyhedra was used in this paper to represent the grains. A computer simulation was performed in which nucleation took places at the faces, edges and vertices of this polyhedral network. The Causal cone method was employed in the simulations. The results of the present computational simulations were compared with the classical Johnson Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK) as well as with Cahn model for nucleation at the grain boundaries. JMAK theory considers nuclei to be uniform randomly located within the matrix. Cahn analytical model specifies that nucleation takes place on random planes. For a small number of nuclei, the simulations approached the JMAK model whereas as the number of nuclei increased the simulation results agree with Cahn's theory. Reasons for this are fully discussed.

The recrystallization behavior of cold-rolled, commercial-purity titanium was studied experimentally and with Monte-Carlo (MC) modeling. Utilization of EBSD-OIM as input for MC modeling resulted in realistic predictions of recrystallization kinetics, microstructure and texture, which were in good agreement with experimental results. MC modeling of recrystallization kinetics predicted that the non-uniform stored energy distribution, heterogeneous nucleation of recrystallization and recovery in combination leads to a negative deviation from linear JMAK kinetics. It was found that concurrent recovery that takes place during recrystallization is an important process that controls both the overall recrystallization kinetics and the deviation of linear JMAK kinetics. On the other hand, the non-uniformly distributed stored energy itself has little effect on the negative deviation from JMAK kinetics but intensifies the deviation when heterogeneous nucleation is combined. Modeling results also revealed that heterogeneous nucleation of recrystallized grains and their early impingement in local areas of high deformation are essential for producing a log-normal distribution of grain size and a typical recrystallization texture of rolled titanium.

Abstract A wire of a β-Titanium alloy known as Gum Metal was cold rolled to a reduction of 80% and heat treated for times in the range 3-120 minutes at a fixed temperature of 740 °C to yield a set of partially recrystallized microstructures. The recrystallization course was evaluated by light optical microscopy and Electron Backscatter Diffraction, based on which the recrystallization kinetics was analysed using the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK) model. This analysis showed that the kinetics of this material does not follow the traditional JMAK behaviour but has two distinct stages with very different Avrami exponents.

The kinetics of static recrystallization in cold rolled ferritic stainless steel sheet tends to slow drastically over the last 10-20% of recrystallization. This has its origins in both the microstructure (deformed grain shape, precipitates) and in the local deformation texture. In this work we have sought to provide a physical explanation for the slow last stages of recrystallization through a texture dependent JMAK model which is informed by the microstructure of the partially recrystallized microstructure. The geometrical assumptions made in developing this JMAK model have been compared to phase field simulations using experimental observations as the source of their starting configuration.

A formação da austenita em condições isócronas em um aço de baixo carbono e microligado com Nb, a diferentes taxas de aquecimento e usando curvas dilatométricas, foi estudada utilizando o modelo de Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK), em conjunção com a relação funcional entre a energia de ativação aparente e a taxa de aquecimento. Mostrou-se que essa relação funcional é logarítmica e que a energia de ativação aparente diminui de 152,5 para 118,1 kJ/mol, quando a taxa de aquecimento aumenta de 0,1 para 16 K/s, para o expoente n da equação de JMAK igual a 1,0.

The crystallization behavior of amorphous TiOxNy (x ≫ y) thin films was investigated by in situ transmission electron microscopy. The Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kozolog (JMAK) theory was used to determine the Avrami exponent, activation energy, and the phase velocity pre-exponent. Addition of nitrogen inhibited diffusion, increasing the nucleation temperature, while decreasing the growth activation energy. Kinetic variables extracted from individual crystallites were compared to JMAK analysis of the fraction transformed, and a change of 6% in the activation energy led to agreement between the methods. From diffraction patterns and index of refraction the crystallized phase was found to be predominantly anatase.

The present simulations have clearly demonstrated that the kinetics, as derived directly from the 3D Potts Monte Carlo simulations, deviate strongly from the classical JMAK theory. The Avrami plots exhibit a strong initial transient and the Avrami exponents are far from constant and generally much lower than predicted by the classical JMAK theory. However, by introducing a suitable time delay,t0, due to a non-zero volume fraction of recrystallized grains at the start-up of the simulations, this initial transient can be removed and the Avrami plots are made close to linear at the same time as the Avrami exponent is in better agreement with theory.

The [4π + 4π] photodimerization process of the 9-substituted anthracene derivative crystalline 9-methylanthracene (9-MA) was investigated using time-resolved X-ray powder diffraction. The study was carried out in-situ using a CCD area detector. Sequential and parametric Rietveld refinement was applied for quantitative phase analysis. The results of traditional sequential Rietveld refinement showed that the evolution of the dimerization process can be described using the Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov (JMAK) model. The parameters of the JMAK equation were obtained successfully by parametric Rietveld refinement and suggest that the reaction follows heterogeneous nucleation and one-dimensional growth with a decreasing nucleation rate.

Jinmu-tang (JMT) is a traditional herbal medicine consisting of five herbal medicines: Poria cocos Wolf, Paeonia lactiflora Pallas, Zingiber officinale Roscoe, Atractylodes japonica Koidzumi, and Aconitum carmichaeli Debeaux. In this study, the JMT components were profiled using UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap-MS, and 23 compounds were identified and characterized. In addition, UPLC-TQ-MS/MS analysis was performed in the positive and negative ion modes of an electrospray ionization source for the simultaneous quantification of the identified compounds. The multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) method was established to increase the sensitivity of the quantitative analysis, and the method was verified through linearity, recovery, and precision. All analytes showed good linearity (R2 ≤ 0.9990). Moreover, the recovery and the relative standard deviation of precision were 86.19–114.62% and 0.20–8.00%, respectively. Using the established MRM analysis method, paeoniflorin was found to be the most abundant compound in JMT. In conclusion, these results provide information on the constituents of JMT and can be applied to quality control and evaluation.

Vanadium effects on the kinetic characteristics of the austenit transformation in Fe-V-C ternary alloys were investigated by microstructure analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov model (JMAK). The results show that the vanadium gives rise to the refinement of pearlite lamellar spacing before transformation, the original austenite grain size decreases after transformation, and and the increase of the amount of carbide at the grain boundarsy. Studies on kinetics showed that the austenization of the Fe-V-C ternary alloys is characterized by JMAK model involving site saturation nucleation, diffusion-controlled growth, and impingement correction. V increases the diffusion activation energy and decreases the pre-exponential factor for diffusion.

The time-dependence of electrochemical reduction current, which was observed during the one-dimensional (1-D) crystal growth of ferromagnetic cobalt nanowire arrays, was analyzed by Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov (JMAK) theory. Textured hcp-Co nanowire arrays were synthesized by potentio-static electrochemical reduction of Co2+ ions in anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) nanochannel films. Crystal growth geometry factor n in the JMAK equation was determined to be ca. 1. Hence, the electrochemical crystal growth process of a numerical nanowires array can be explained by 1-D geometry. The crystal nucleation frequency factor, k in JMAK equation was estimated to be the range between 10−4 and 10−3. Our experimental results revealed that the crystal nucleation site density Nd increased up to 2.7 × 10−8 nm−3 when increasing the overpotential for cobalt electrodeposition by shifting the cathode potential down to −0.85 V vs. Ag/AgCl. The (002) crystal orientation of hcp-Co nanowire arrays was, remarkably, observed by decreasing Nd. Spontaneous magnetization behavior was observed in the axial direction of nanowires. By decreasing the overpotential for cobalt electrodeposition, the coercivity of the nanocomposite film increased and reached up to 1.88 kOe, with a squareness of ca. 0.9 at room temperature.

O ponto central desta pesquisa baseia-se em compreender como o infotenimento se apresenta nos quadros do telejornal JMTV 1ª edição, de Imperatriz, no Maranhão. O trabalho é embasado por conceitos de Gomes (2009; 2011), Dejavite (2006), Belém (2015; 2017) e discorre sobre as transformações e adaptações no telejornalismo para atender às exigências do público. Dentre essas alterações está o surgimento de um modelo híbrido, o infotenimento. Para atingir os objetivos propostos, foi realizada uma análise de conteúdo quantitativa de 151 edições dos quadros fixos do JMTV exibidos em 2018, que correspondem ao corpus da pesquisa. À vista disso, argumentamos que os quadros são espaços de excelência para que determinadas temáticas sejam discutidas com mais profundidade em relação aos VTs factuais.

This article aims to analyze the inter-media agenda-setting between the TV newscasts JMTV 1st edition, from TV Mirante corporation, and Na Hora D, from TV Difusora Sul corporation, both broadcasted in the city of Imperatriz, in Maranhão, Brazil. For this proposal, we discuss the agenda-setting theory, and the regional and local televised media perspective. Methodologically, the research uses a quantitative content analysis of a database 73 journalistic pieces from both TV Newscasts - 26 from JMTV, and 47 from Na Hora D – during the first week of August 2019. The main results of the research show that there is a limitation in the coverage of regionalism, and in the analyzed period there was an inter-media agenda-setting between these two TV Newscasts.

Para essa proposta, foram abordados a teoria do agendamento e a perspectiva de mídia regional e local no âmbito televisivo. Metodologicamente, este artigo está ancorado na análise de conteúdo quantitativa, e possui um corpus de 73 matérias analisadas dos dois telejornais, 26 do JMTV e 47 do Na Hora D – durante a primeira semana do mês de agosto de 2019. Sobre os principais achados da pesquisa, tem-se uma limitação no que é proposto sobre regionalismo e percebeu-se que, no período de análise, houve interagendamento midiático entre os dois telejornais.

Exoskeleton robots demonstrate promise in their application in assisting or enhancing human physical capacity. Joint muscular torques (JMT) reflect human effort, which can be applied on an exoskeleton robot to realize an active power-assist function. The estimation of human JMT with a wearable exoskeleton is challenging. This paper proposed a novel human lower limb JMT estimation method based on the inverse dynamics of the human body. The method has two main parts: the inverse dynamic approach (IDA) and the sensing system. We solve the inverse dynamics of each human leg separately to shorten the serial chain and reduce computational complexity, and divide the JMT into the mass-induced one and the foot-contact-force (FCF)-induced one to avoid switching the dynamic equation due to different contact states of the feet. An exoskeleton embedded sensing system is designed to obtain the user’s motion data and FCF required by the IDA by mapping motion information from the exoskeleton to the human body. Compared with the popular electromyography (EMG) and wearable sensor based solutions, electrodes, sensors, and complex wiring on the human body are eliminated to improve wearing convenience. A comparison experiment shows that this method produces close output to a motion analysis system with different subjects in different motion.

Background: Recently, a new multicomponent RNA-containing virus was described and called as Jingmen tick virus (JMTV) supposedly belonging to flaviviruses. A virus consists of four viral particles and JMTV was firstly isolated from ticks in China and South America. Aims: Detection viral RNA specific for JMTV complex, sequencing genome fragments and taxonomy identification novel virus from JMTV complex in patients with Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) from southern European part of Russia. Materials and methods: Panel of 20 randomly selected sera from patients with confirmed Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever was collected in 2016 and was used for detection JMTV and CCHF viral RNA by PCR with experimental primers. Subsequent sequencing of isolated fragments of viral genomes was used for identification JMTV and CCHF virus genetic materials and phylogenetic analyses. Results: The viral RNAs of the CCHF virus and JMTV were detected in blood of four patients. Sequencing of the isolated PCR fragment of S segment CCHF virus allowed identifying these RNA isolates as Europe 1 lineage, subgroups Va and Vb of the CCHF virus that is a typical for the southern European part of the Russia. The nucleotide sequences of segment 2 (GP glycoprotein) of the JMTV were also detected by RP PCR and sequencing in these human sera. The new JMTV isolates were clustered together by phylogenetic analysis. The level of nucleotide identity for newly discovered JMTV isolates was only about 81-82% with comparison to the previously described European variants (Kosovo) of the JMTV. Conclusions: The results suggest that viral genomic RNA for new multicomponent flavivirus named as Manych virus and related to the JMTV complex was discovered in sera of CCHF patients in Russia.

Abstract Background Jingmen tick virus (JMTV) is a newly discovered tick-borne virus that can cause disease in humans. This virus has been authenticated as being extremely widespread worldwide and as posing a significant threat to public health and safety. Methods We collected 35 ticks belonging to two tick species from wild boars in Nanping, Fujian Province, China. JMTV-specific genes were amplified by qRT-PCR and nested PCR to confirm the presence of this pathogen. Results More than one third of of all ticks collected (11/35) were positive for JMTV. Viral sequences were obtained from three of the JMTV-positive ticks, including the complete genomic sequence from one tick. This was the first time that JMTV was identified in the hard-bodied tick Amblyomma testudinarium. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that JMTV from Fujian Province shared > 90% identity with other isolates derived from China, but was distinct from those reported in France and Cambodia. Conclusions JMTV is characterized by relatively low mutations and has its own local adaptive characteristics in different regions. Our findings provide molecular evidence of the presence of JMTV in an overlooked tick species from an area not unrecognized as being endemic. They also suggest that JMTV occupies a wider geographical distribution than currently believed and is a potential disease vector. Graphical abstract
