We report studies of adsorption of helium in translationally invariant polygonal pores at zero temperature, with emphasis on the route to capillary condensation and the appearance of metastable states. We analyze hysteresis and hysterectic-like phenomena associated to the existence of multiple equilibrium states in a rhombic pore and examine the effects of the angular geometry, as opposed to the smooth curvature of cylindrical tubes.

Military operations research and combat modeling apply mathematical models to analyze a variety of military conflicts and obtain insights about these phenomena. One of the earliest and most important set of models used for combat modeling is the Lanchester equations. Legacy Lanchester equations model the mutual attritional dynamics of two opposing military forces and provide some insights regarding the fate of such engagements. In this paper, we review recent developments in Lanchester modeling, focusing on contemporary conflicts in the world. Specifically, we present models that capture irregular warfare, such as insurgencies, highlight the role of target information in such conflicts, and capture multilateral situations where several players are involved in the conflict (such as the current war in Syria).

Handling irregular phenomena might bring great complexity for involved teams. Variables considered for undertaking recommended procedures may yield many decision alternatives, challenging to deal with at planning time. Additionally, expectations regarding the phenomena handling may not match those observed. This means that the existing plan’s application may become inappropriate, and teams must be creative in performing actions and decision-making. An approach for on-the-fly adaptation of plans aims to assist teams in identifying and diagnosing unforeseen situations, besides adjusting previously developed plans at runtime. This approach was evaluated through experiments in the emergency management domain, and the initial results indicate its feasibility in dealing with unforeseen situations while handling irregular phenomena in complex environments.

In the three-body problem, it is known that there exists a special set of periodic orbits: spatial isosceles periodic orbits. In each period, one body moves up and down along a straight line, and the other two bodies rotate around this line. In this work, we revisit this set of orbits by applying variational method. Two unexpected phenomena are discovered. First, this set is not always spatial. It actually bifurcates from the circular Euler (central configuration) orbit to the Broucke (collision) orbit. Second, one of the orbits in this set encounters an oscillating behavior. By running its initial condition, the orbit stays periodic for only a few periods before it becomes irregular. However, it moves close to another periodic shape in a while. Shortly it falls apart again and starts running close to a third periodic shape after a moment. This oscillation continues as t increases. Actually, up to t = 1.2 × 105, the orbit is bounded and keeps oscillating between periodic shapes and irregular motions.

Анотація:
In the present study, effects of irregular waves on two-dimensional beach transformation and related phenomena were investigated through a series of laboratory experiments. Attempts were made to determine a representative wave of irregular wave trains which controlled individual phenomenon related to the two-dimensional beach profile change. It was found that the representative wave is different for each phenomenon. For the macroscopic beach profile change, it is the mean wave which represents whole incident waves. On the other hand, some of microscopic phenomena, such as initiation of sand movement and sand ripple formation, are controlled by larger waves in the wave train selectively, of which representative wave is the significant wave.

For given [Formula: see text], such periodic orbits form a one-parameter set with a rotation angle [Formula: see text] as the parameter. [Formula: see text]Two new phenomena are found for this set. First, for each [Formula: see text], this set of periodic orbits bifurcate from a circular Euler (central configuration) orbit to a Broucke (collision) orbit as [Formula: see text] increases from [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text]. The quantum number is both integer and half-integer in nonstationary states. Transitions between states and lifetime of any states have an irregular character in dynamical chaos states.

AbstractWe present two pilot studies for the search and characterization of accretion events in star-forming dwarf galaxies. Our strategy consists of two complementary approaches: i) the direct search for stellar substructures around dwarf galaxies through deep wide-field imaging, and ii) the characterization of the chemical properties in these systems up to large galacto-centric distances. We show our results for two star-forming dwarf galaxies, the starburst irregular NGC 4449, and the extremely metal-poor dwarf DDO 68.

This paper aims to study ‘rʌ(러)’ irregular of Modern Korean, which has gotten less attention than other irregular classes. The ‘rʌ’ irregular is a conjugation in which ‘irɨda(이르다), purɨda(푸르다), nurɨda(누르다)’ are combined with the vowel ending, which ‘r(ㄹ)’ is added, resulting in the conjugated forms that ‘irɨrʌ(이르러), purɨrʌ(푸르러), nurɨrʌ(누르러)’. The ‘rʌ’ irregular of Modern Korean is the irregular with different characteristics from ‘p(ㅂ)’ irregular and ‘s(ㅅ)’ irregular. Because the ‘rʌ’ irregular isn’t the irregular conjugation formed by phonological motivations such as the changes of phonetic value and phonological phenomena. However, there is a limit that cannot be specifically discussed the motivations of forming the ‘rʌ’ irregular in previous studies. Thus, this study discussed how the ‘rʌ’ irregular of Modern Korean was formed by which motivations and gone through which processes of diachronic changes. According to the data of Middle Korean, it can be seen that the ‘rʌ’ irregular was composed of only color-adjectives such as ‘pɨrɨda(프르다), nurɨda(누 르다)’ in the 15th century, and was added ‘nirɨda(니르다)’ the 16th century, finally formed. In addition, it could analyze that the ‘rʌ’ irregular was formed by the non-phonological motivation of the convergence between paradigms. As a result, it comes to have the possibilities to solve various problems related to the formation of ‘rʌ’ irregular.

Numerical wave models for shallow water waves are of particular importance for the calculation of the wave climate in harbours and coastal areas. Especially nonlinear time domain models, which are based on the Boussinesq-Wave- Equations, may be helpful in the future for simulating the interaction of currents with refraction, diffraction, reflection and for simulating shoaling..-of irregular waves in natural areas; a potential which has not yet been fully developed. During the last ten years numerical models, based on these equations, have been published; such as ABBOTT et. al. , HAUGUEL and SCHAPER / ZIELKE . Research on this topic is currently being carried on. Some efforts have been made to verify the capability of the models to describe the various physical phenomena. However, up to now, verification has been limited to regular waves. The aim of this paper therefore is, to consider questions concerning irregular, nonlinear waves.

Анотація:
An accurate bug severity assessment is an important factor in bug fixing. Bugs are reported on the bug tracking system by different users with a fast speed. The size of software repositories is also increasing at an enormous rate. This increased size often has much uncertainty and irregularities. The factors that cause uncertainty are biases, noise and abnormality in data. The authors consider that software bug report phenomena on the bug tracking system keeps an irregular state. Without proper handling of these uncertainties and irregularities, the performance of learning strategies can be significantly reduced. To incorporate and consider these two phenomena, they have used entropy as an attribute to assess bug severity. The authors have predicted the bug severity by using machine learning techniques, namely KNN, J48, RF, RNG, NB, CNN and MLR. They have validated the classifiers using PITS, Eclipse and Mozilla projects. The results show that the proposed entropy-based approaches improves the performance as compared to the state of the art approach considered in this article.

The aim of this work is to simulate correctly in 3D space the phenomena that govern relaxation semiconductors. To avoid the relevant constraints of inadequate mesh a new technique for refining irregular meshing has been creating. Each length of the sample will be considered as a partial sum of a geometric series, the calculation of the argument of this series, will allow to calculate the distance between the nodes. In this paper we proposed to use an algorithm combined between Gummel and Newton Raphson algorithms to solve the partial differential equations, the linearization of transport equations is obtained by applying the finite difference method, which allowed us to calculate the relaxation time, life time and recombination rate. The results revealed appearance of a limited region called recombination front instead of charge space region, an improvement in computational time with a big precision for a 3D simulation, by letting to the user the choice of the distance to be discreet and the number of points wished without saturate the memory. This type of meshing is simple to apply and can be used to be applied as a solution to correctly simulate phenomena in structures at different areas for all the dimensions.

Abstract The computational fluid dynamics approach is applied to packed bed reactors with moderate tube-to-particle diameter ratios. In order to generate irregular particle arrangements within the reactors, a modified ballistic deposition method is used. While our previous studies were focused on pressure drop and mass transfer characteristics, the present paper uses the same framework to investigate the dispersion phenomena occurring in such reactors. Two different methods, namely the tracer and the post-processing method, are applied. The first method imitates the experimental procedure in which a non-diffusive tracer is injected into the packed bed. The residence time can be evaluated from the evolution of the tracer concentration. The second method is purely numerical and allows fast residence time estimation. Simulation results are successfully validated against experimental data from literature. The suggested numerical analysis is a valuable tool toward a deeper understanding of the fundamental transport phenomena in such reactors and, consequently, for the improvement of the packed bed performance.

We study the diffusion equation with an appropriate change of variables. This equation is, in general, a partial differential equation (PDE). With the self-similar and related Ansatz, we transform the PDE of diffusion to an ordinary differential equation. The solutions of the PDE belong to a family of functions which are presented for the case of infinite horizon. In the presentation, we accentuate the physically reasonable solutions. We also study time-dependent diffusion phenomena, where the spreading may vary in time. To describe the process, we consider time-dependent diffusion coefficients. The obtained analytic solutions all can be expressed with Kummer’s functions.

In this study, a numerical simulation was conducted to investigate the non-linear physical phenomena of a tension leg platform (TLP) of a 15-MW-class floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT). Computational fluid dynamics was employed as the numerical tool, and a deforming mesh technique was used to describe the moving body. To examine the non-linear physical phenomena, an irregular wave was generated with a focus on head sea conditions. The springing and ringing responses were calculated from the numerical simulation results, and the relations between the motions and dynamic tensions of the 15-MW-class FOWT TLP were investigated. From the irregular wave impact simulation, it was found that the springing response via the wave sum frequencies and the ringing response occurred at approximately three times the wave peak frequency. Additionally, whipping simulations were conducted under a focused wave. The results show that the response in pitch resonance frequency was caused by the wave impact. The numerical results of this study could be used as fundamental data for FOWT TLP design.

Анотація:
The development of irregular warfare and various phenomena of post-modern warfare increasingly make war strategies develop dynamically and adaptively. Strategy is no longer used as a tool to win wars like in the traditional era but is more directed towards how to maintain space security or security. In addition, threats are also growing rapidly and extraordinary in line with the rapid development of science and technology so that the study of strategy itself must also be adaptive and dynamic. This study uses a qualitative approach by using a literature study. The results of the study prove that to deal with this, the government needs to integrate between actors competing in irregular wars to support national security. The government must also take firm and bold steps to make 'peace' with non-state actors.

In this paper, novel sensors using physical phenomena deduced from ultrasound waves are proposed to overcome problems of cost, availability and adaptability in the measure of position, velocity and tilt of Autonomous Land Vehicles. The true challenge for the Autonomous Land Vehicles concerns essentially the accurate perception of hazardous environments to receive faithful information about reality. Current sensors used nowadays are viewed very expensive, complicated and unable to give accurate measures without time delay. For that, our contribution is located in this context. At first, fundamental principle of ultrasonic waves and their specific physical properties are described to introduce their use in the proposed sensors. Mechatronic concepts of sensors are then detailed with the corresponding mathematical models. Indeed, online implementation and real time experiences are conducted to verify the effectiveness of measurements.

It concentrates on imperfect function-form mappings, and discusses several cases in which specific perspectival meanings are not fully predictable on the basis of a perspectivizing grammatical construction alone. We distinguish two kinds of form-function mismatches: (1) perspective-persistent phenomena, i.e. grammatically signaled deictic and/or cognitive perspective shifts which are not realized in interpretation, and (2) irregular perspective shifts, which involve either grammatically un(der)specified shifts or grammatically signaled shifts that are interpreted as mixing multiple sources of deictic and/or cognitive perspective (‘multiple-perspective constructions’). We briefly discuss and contextualize each of the contributions, and highlight their central findings.

Electron beam melting (EBM) is a relatively new rapid, additive manufacturing technology which can allow for the fabrication of complex, multi-functional metal or alloy monoliths by CAD-directed, selective melting of precursor powder beds. By altering the beam parameters and scan strategies, powder burn-through phenomena and uneven temperature field can be improved. In this paper the analyses for editable electron beam scanning track are presented based on the influence to the temperature field over the formation zone and the powder burn-through phenomena. The most promising strategy, non-uniform scanning mode for irregular scanning path, is approved by the ANSYS simulation and a two-dimensional scan experiment. The result shows non-uniform scanning mode can improve the uniformity of the temperature field and reduce the powder burn-through phenomena.

Abstract The paper will focus on the transformation of war (associated with phenomena such as human displacement, famine, violence against civilians, and commercialization of military troops) and on the refugee flows and insecurity within refugee camps which amount to humanitarian tragedies. The second chief aim of this paper is to investigate tenets of the extended analytical framework of security and to emphasize the relevance of constructivist and critical security studies. The pivotal line of arguments will revolve around specificities of violent conflict in the Horn of Africa which trigger the need to revisit mainstream approaches on state security by analyzing intra-state (and internationalized) violence and by including types of post-colonial insecurity, food insecurity and environmental degradation. The main underlying research question is: why is human security a valid framework of analysis in the case of irregular warfare in the Horn of Africa?

Abstract The paper presents the results of research focused on the wave propagation in the CTO S.A. deepwater towing tank. In the scope of paper, the wavemaker transfer function was determined for regular waves, based on the Biésel Transfer Function and further for irregular waves, based on Hasselman model of nonlinear energy transfer. The phenomena: wave damping, wave breakdown and wave reflection, were measured, analyzed and mathematically modeled. Developed mathematical models allow to calculate the impact of mentioned phenomena on the wave propagation and furthermore to calculate the wave characteristics along the whole measurement area in the CTO S.A. deepwater towing tank, based on wavemaker flap motion control.

Wave breaking is widely recognized as a very challenging phenomenon to emulate using numerical/computational methods. On that condition, the transition from modelling regular to irregular breaking waves is not trivial. Even though some issues are surpassed in CFD simulations, there still are two substantial problems to account for. The first one entails the proper generation of irregular waves in a numerical wave tank, while the second is the introduction of the turbulent regime of breaking in the solver. The present work addresses these two problems by employing the Stabilized k−ω SST model for turbulence closure and by proposing an efficient and accurate method for irregular wave generation. Apart from that, an artificial compressibility method is used for coupling the system of equations, which solves these equations in a non-segregated manner and overcomes problems pertaining to the existence of the interface in free-surface flows. The methodology is validated through the test case of irregular wave propagation over a submerged breaker bar and a piecewise sloped bottom, indicating the ability of the method to capture irregular breaking wave phenomena. Simulations are in fair agreement with experimental data regarding energy spectra and free surface time-series, while results suggest that the known over-prediction of turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) is significantly constrained by the stabilized k−ω SST model.

Current analyses present lexical borrowing as a pervasive phenomenon in pre-colonial Australia. They propose that this follows from the high levels of multilingualism and language group exogamy which characterized pre-colonial sociality. This article shows that lexical borrowing was not pervasive in Australia, arguing that there is no necessary or even default relation between high levels of multilingualism and language group exogamy, and high levels of borrowing. These social phenomena may equally be accompanied by extremes of lexical differentiation between languages. Australia provides many examples of such differentiation. The paper also argues that there are no examples of the borrowing of lexical material from irregular paradigms in Australia. As such, the sharing of lexical material from irregular paradigms is a reliable guide to genetic relations in Australia.

A mathematical model is presented that describes the processes of propagation and transformation of coherent electromagnetic radiation in a multilayer three-dimensional (3D) smoothly irregular integrated optical waveguide, called the model of adiabatic guided modes. Its presentation and individual applications in smoothly irregular integrated optical waveguides contain two short stories: • two-dimensional evolution of guided modes is described; • boundary conditions are formed on non-horizontal planes tangent to media interfaces, which lead to the description of hybridization of guided modes and other interesting phenomena. The model of adiabatic guided modes generalizes the cross-section method (reference waveguide method) with nonlocal boundary conditions for the transverse guided mode operator in the reference waveguide cross section to the case of twodimensional evolution, leading to the description of a number of new effects.

Gasoline engine development has to respond to requirements for fuel efficient and clean combustion. In meeting such targets, the automotive industry has responded with the introduction and continuous improvement of turbocharged gasoline direct injection (TC GDI) combustion systems. Specific challenges to such engines include irregular ignition and combustion events which are rarely met in conventional engines. The paper describes ignition phenomena and mechanisms relevant for the development of such TC GDI engines. Focus then is given to combustion measurement techniques applied for the identification of these spontaneous and riskfull combustion events. As analysis of such ignition events must be done in real, high load multicylinder engine operation, suitable sensors together with measurement and analysis procedures are described. The paper concludes with analysis examples derived from various engine testing situations.

AbstractDiverse variable phenomena in the Universe are periodic. Astonishingly many of the periodic signals present in stars have timescales coinciding with human ones (from minutes to years). The periods of signals often have to be deduced from time series which are irregularly sampled and sparse, furthermore correlations between the brightness measurements and their estimated uncertainties are common. The uncertainty on the frequency estimation is reviewed. We explore the astronomical and statistical literature, in both cases of regular and irregular samplings. The frequency uncertainty is depending on signal to noise ratio, the frequency, the observational timespan. The shape of the light curve should also intervene, since sharp features such as exoplanet transits, stellar eclipses, raising branches of pulsation stars give stringent constraints. We propose several procedures (parametric and nonparametric) to estimate the uncertainty on the frequency which are subsequently tested against simulated data to assess their performances.

AbstractWe review the tracers of star formation in galaxies and show how they demonstrate the presence of bursts of star formation in various astrophysical contexts: large extragalactic HII regions in spiral and irregular galaxies and in blue compact galaxies, nuclei of some galaxies, extended star formation in other galaxies. We show that strong bursts seem to occur mainly in interacting galaxies. A few comments are made about the theory of such phenomena.

AbstractIC 418 belongs to the group of about a dozen planetary nebulae with central stars that show irregular spectroscopic and photometric variations. Recent theoretical results provide arguments that this group may constitute a new class of pulsators. We present new photometric observations of the nucleus of IC 418 showing variations with a timescale of about 1/4 day. We discuss two possible explanations of the observed phenomena: pulsational instability and an unstable wind.

The formation and development of the new branch of applied linguistics depends on the study of various lingual phenomena from the standpoint of synergetic philosophy and methodology. The use of synergetic methodology for language studies proves the appropriateness of so-called "non-systemic", "irregular", "transitional" lingual phenomena and processes, proves the necessity of their existence in a functioning language, determines mechanisms of language super-system self-organization, provides opportunities for determining the trends of its development.

We have developed a modified 3D prestack time migration (PSTM) scheme that can handle rugged topography as well as high near-surface velocities in land seismic imaging. The proposed topography PSTM can be applied to seismic data recorded on a 3D irregular surface without static corrections. Two effective velocity parameters were found to describe wave propagation through inhomogeneous media above and below a chosen datum. As a result, wave propagation phenomena in the complex near surface, such as near-vertical incidences through a weathering layer and raypaths bending away from vertical in the presence of high near-surface velocities, are correctly considered. The two effective velocity parameters can be estimated by flattening events in imaging gathers. Hence, it is not necessary to have detailed knowledge of the near-surface velocity model and velocity field below the datum when applying topography PSTM. We integrated residual static corrections into topography PSTM. This eliminated the distortions along the events better than conventional residual static corrections, which are usually applied before migration. The computational cost of the topography PSTM was only slightly higher than that of conventional PSTM due to the use of a table-driven algorithm. Three-dimensional synthetic and field data sets were used to test the proposed topography PSTM. High-quality imaging results were obtained.

This paper explains recent statistics and phenomena related to returnee migrants in Edo state, Nigeria. The significance of this paper is that it creates awareness on causes and motives behind irregular migration leading to repatriation (returned migrants). Based on data gathered from most research participants (returnee migrant) – the quest to improve one’s socioeconomic living conditions are the motives behind most Nigerians’ migration journey (regular or irregular) to western countries (i.e., Europe, Canada, USA, etc.). The socioeconomic imbalance in Nigeria is mainly caused by the high rate of unemployment and poverty; thus, the majority of Nigerians are of the opinion that migrating to western countries, is a potential pathway to an improved socioeconomic living condition. This paper further suggests – skill acquisition (TVET) as an approach to reduce unemployment and poverty; thus, economically improving the socioeconomic living conditions of the majority of Nigerians.

Abstract. Classical systems stirred by random forces of given statistics may be described via a path integral formulation in which their degrees of freedom are stochastic variables themselves, undergoing a multiple-history probabilistic evolution. This framework seems to be easily applicable to resistive Magneto-Hydro-Dynamics (MHD). Indeed, MHD equations form a dynamic system of classical variables in which the terms representing the density, the pressure and the conductivity of the plasma are irregular functions of space and time when turbulence occurs. By treating those irregular terms as random stirring forces, it is possible to introduce a Stochastic Field Theory which should represent correctly the impulsive phenomena caused by the spece- and time-irregularity of plasma turbulence. This work is motivated by the recent observational evidences of the crucial role played by stochastic fluctuations in space plasmas.

The avoidance of regular but not irregular plurals inside compounds (e.g., *rats eater vs. mice eater) has been one of the most widely studied morphological phenomena in the psycholinguistics literature. To examine whether the constraints that are responsible for this contrast have any general significance beyond compounding, we investigated derived word forms containing regular and irregular plurals in two experiments. Experiment 1 was an offline acceptability judgment task, and Experiment 2 measured eye movements during reading derived words containing regular and irregular plurals and uninflected base nouns. The results from both experiments show that the constraint against regular plurals inside compounds generalizes to derived words. We argue that this constraint cannot be reduced to phonological properties, but is instead morphological in nature. The eye-movement data provide detailed information on the time-course of processing derived word forms indicating that early stages of processing are affected by a general constraint that disallows inflected words from feeding derivational processes, and that the more specific constraint against regular plurals comes in at a subsequent later stage of processing. We argue that these results are consistent with stage-based models of language processing.

DOI: 10.17014/ijog.v7i4.148Geological features in Labuhan area were studied from the middle of October to the middle of November 2011 covering seventy days. Surface and subsurface data were obtained from interpretation of landsat images and shallow hand-auger boreholes. The geological features are distinctly associated with active tectonics. The stratigraphy clearly indicates at least three phases of tectonic activities since the Late Miocene until Holocene. Tectonics of phase one occurred in the Late Miocene; phase two took place in the period from Pliocene to Late Pleistocene, while tectonics phase three is ongoing in the Holocene. Volcanic activity has intensified since the Early Pleistocene. The landsat images show an irregular outline of the northern coast line. This penomenon is interpreted to be the result of tectonic uplift. On the other hand, the southern coast is linear in plan which is interpreted to correlate with tectonic subsidence. Furthermore, stratigraphic correlation shows that depositional environment changed vertically due to a local subsidence. The northern researched area is occupied by Pleistocene volcanic eruption centres, whilst the younger ones tend to shift southward. This fact tends to indicate that the subduction zone moved southward slowly.

Fractional partial differential equation models are frequently used to several physical phenomena. Despite the ability to express many complex phenomena in different disciplines, researchers have found that multiterm time-fractional PDEs improve the modeling accuracy for describing diffusion processes in contrast to the results of a single term. Nowadays, it attracts the attention of the active researchers. The aim of this work is concerned with the approximate numerical solutions of the three-term time-fractional Sobolev model equation using computationally attractive and reliable technique, known as a local meshless method. Because of the meshless character and the simple application in higher dimensions, there is a growing interest in meshless techniques. To assess the reliability and accuracy of the proposed method, three test problems and two types of irregular domains are taken into account.

Growth phenomena have been studied extensively in natural sciences. This interest has been renewed since the introduction of the fractal concept. In an attempt to understand the origin of irregular phenomena, several computer models and theoretical approaches have recently been developed. Studies using fractal analysis of the retinovasculature have proposed diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA) one of the most popular models to explain the formation of the retina. A deeper investigation of the physiological laws ruling the development of the retinovasculature has, however, revealed static and dynamic discrepancies with DLA, leading to rejection of the DLA model, and reopening the debate. In light of comparison of the two formation processes and of the absence of a DLA structural characteristic in retinovasculature, we discuss the validity of some previously proposed models.
