Повний текст джерелаThe aim of this study was to find the non genetical influence facts in cows milk, for healthy cows and cows with secret mastitis. Scientific research work was carried out at the Department of Non-infectious diseases, Lithuanian Veterinary Academy and Practical Instruction and Research Centre LVA from 2005 to 2007. This work analyses data from dairy cow milk production. Experiments were carried out on two to seven year old black and white breed lactating cows, during the housing period. Data from 166 cows was used in this analysis. Inclusion criteria - somatic cell count higher than 400x 103/ml. We analyzed the influence of lactation on milk somatic cell count, cow age impact on productivity during lactation period on the number of somatic cells in the milk, parturition – to conception period length, season of the year. Increasing lactation number, was associated with elevated somatic cell count from 247, 3 until 392, 4 103/ml; and average milk yield per day also increased from 12,1 until 13,8 kg, milk fat increased from 4,34 until 4,38 percent, protein content increased from 3,15 to 3,30 percent. Milk lactose content decreased accordingly from 4,75 to 4,67 percent. Age positively influences milk productivity. This can be explained by lowered resistance to mastitis which is more frequent with age, cow automatic milking and supervision mistakes (Powell, et Al. 1997). Повний текст джерелаThe Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) represent a significant shift in the goals of U.S. science education. Instead of a focus solely on content acquisition, the NGSS aim to engage students in the practices of science. Teachers will require substantial support, in large part from science leaders at the district level, to change their instruction to accomplish this vision. However, little is known about how these leaders conceptualize the NGSS. Therefore, this dissertation utilizes a sensemaking theoretical framework to explore the beliefs and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of district science leaders about one of the NGSS science practices, scientific argumentation. Greater understandings of these constructs can aid in designing appropriate supports for district leaders and meeting the challenges of implementing the NGSS. Fifty-three district leaders from states that have adopted the NGSS participated in a survey focused on their beliefs and PCK for argumentation. After the administration of the survey, 10 district leaders who represented a range of states and beliefs were selected for follow-up interviews. These interviews were semi-structured and focused on the same areas of belief as in the survey. The findings from the surveys and interviews indicate that most district science leaders are supporters of the NGSS and believe that scientific argumentation offers important benefits for students. Many leaders referenced one or more of the NGSS science practices in their descriptions of effective science education and asserted that they believe that the NGSS will require teachers in their districts to make substantial changes in their current instruction. However, some leaders also maintained their beliefs in the effectiveness of traditional instructional methods that are not compatible with the NGSS, and few leaders mentioned critique as an essential component of argumentation. In addition, many leaders demonstrated challenges in their PCK for argumentation, specifically related to evidence and reasoning in scientific arguments and the role of critique in dialogical interactions. Therefore, supporting leaders to develop more accurate conceptions and knowledge of the NGSS and argumentation should be a priority for districts nationwide

Повний текст джерелаThe clinical experience of future urban teachers is increasingly regarded as one of the most important aspects of teacher preparation (NCATE, 2010; NRC, 2010). However, there is widespread agreement that further knowledge must be acquired on what constitutes rich clinical experience, and on the influence of such learning opportunities especially in urban, high-needs contexts (Anderson & Stillman, 2013; Levine, 2006; Picus, Monk, & Knight, 2012). This dissertation aims to increase our understanding of clinical experience. Based on sociocultural and socio-constructivist perspectives, and drawing on Lave and Wenger’s (1991) theories of learning within communities of practice, this dissertation employed qualitative research methods to examine the phenomenon of content coaching during an urban teacher residency program. This dissertation argues that residency content coaching provided a context within which residents could integrate what they were learning about “ambitious teaching” (Lampert & Graziani, 2009; Newmann & Wehlage, 1993) into their own practice through ongoing negotiations with their coaches. Coaching interactions were by and large responsive to individual resident’s learning needs, and guided residents to begin to place their students’ learning at the center of decision-making when planning, teaching, and assessing. The dissertation further investigates the actual and aspirational characteristics of coaching in this context. Overall findings suggest that content coaching addresses several persistent problems of traditional pre-service fieldwork supervision (Darling-Hammond, 2010; Featherstone, 2007), and offers a more coherent approach. Consequently, this dissertation contributes to our collective understanding of clinical experience in preparing teachers to teach ambitiously in urban classrooms

The first speaks about media implement ant owners diversity, the second – about wide spectrum of opinions, comments, genres, players and etc. In this paper it was taken a position, that any implement of media firstly have to form a objective point of view of a reader to fact or problem, practice critical look and thought, must present not only one narrow journalist opinion or one way formed view to a reader, but wide choice of specialists, experts opinions, comments, many-sided providence spectrum. It was conciderated at the tendency, that in small country (such as Baltic countries) individual implement of media, what have position, does it’s inside or outside policy, do not gives information to receiver a possibility to get all information about one or another concrete case or event. Influence of owners, corruption in news media, lack of educated and professional journalists and citizens limited interests and possibilities harm the content diversity of news media: receivers (readers, viewers, listeners, consumers) take all they get, suppliers (media implements) do not have reasons to do they bests.

Relevance of the topic: One of the major challenges of modern physical education is to develop students' physical activity in everyday life, motives and skills. One of the most effective ways to address this challenge is the standard (conventional) lessons change with non-traditional lessons and tasks to corresponding content. These lessons increase students' interest, they experience positive emotions. Thus creating grounds for promoting physical activity assumptions. Students and having little experience of physical education teachers lack the theoretical and practical knowledge of the non-traditional sports. Pre-school organizations prepare new curricula, whose content should ensure educational process’ quality. These legal relations of employment are defined as the system of legal, economic, social and organizational means, which are provided by state, local administration or other institutions, companies, organizations by seeking bigger employment, helping to conclude work contract. The regulation development of legal relations of employment in Lithuania is discussed in this thesis, putting more emphasis on international legal grounds that influence them. ILO conventions, which are meaningful to employment sphere, are briefly reviewed by noting legal acts of Republic of Lithuania where statute of Conventions is removed. EU employment strategy is reviewed and its impact on Lithuania’s employment policy for formed directions as well as regulation of legal relations of employment is analyzed. Conception of legal relations of employment is defined in a wider and narrower sense. Subjects of legal relations of employment are noted, their legal personality is defined. Competence of subjects of ruling system of employment is placed. Повний текст джерелаThe main aim of this Master work is to analyse quality parameters of asphalt pavement and quality indicators of bitumen use for Lithuanian Roads. Using the results of the research on experimental pavement structures the quality parameters of the top layer of asphalt was analyzed. The analysis of the data allowed the correlation between the bitumen content and asphalt mixture physical and mechanical indices to be determined. Using the results of the research on „Problematika“ laboratory allowed the correlation between bitumen properties parameters. The research material was processed by means of the statistical software package „Statistica“. Standartized bitumen content and asphalt mixture physical and mechanical indices, bitumen quality indicators were valued. The conclusions and recommendations are provided.

Повний текст джерелаSchools and classrooms in the United States are increasingly religiously diverse, and religion remains a deeply influential social force, locally, nationally, and globally. However, decades of misunderstanding about the constitutionally appropriate relationship between religion and public education have created a cycle of silence about religion in K-12 schools and in teacher education. As a result, public school educators are not prepared to teach about religion in the curriculum. Nor do they have the skills to respond to common challenges that arise in religiously diverse school communities. This dissertation examines four professional development courses about religious diversity to understand the motivations and experiences of the educators who participated and to explore the impacts these courses had on the educators’ teaching practices. The 145 participants in the professional development courses learned about several religious traditions through a combination of visits to religious communities, guest speakers, and classroom discussion. The mixed methods study surveyed the participants three times, once before the courses, and twice afterwards. Follow-up interviews with 13 educators were conducted approximately one year after they completed the courses. The findings reveal that educators working at all grade levels and in all content areas found valuable benefits from increasing their understanding of religion, including a greater appreciation for the religious identities of their students and increased comfort with religion when it appeared in a range of school settings. Based on my analysis, I propose a framework of Pedagogical Content Knowledge about Religion to describe five domains of knowledge and skills that are necessary for educators to be able to competently respond to religion in public schools. This framework and the findings of this study have valuable implications for the development of future professional development courses and in charting a trajectory for further research on religion in U.S. public schools

National Education Strategy for period of 2003-2012 aims to bring the provisions of general education and vocational training policies, a flexible and open structure of education, integrating general education and vocational training. During the past two decades aiming to bring together the training and direction of general education at upper secondary level in Lithuania is implemented a wide variety of measures and activities: vocational schools are given the opportunity, together with the professional qualification of secondary education, to set up gymnasiums, schools for general education provided access to secondary education curriculum to include vocational training programs, modules, introduced in test technology, the development of a national qualifications framework and others. The prestige of vocational training can be raised by integrating vocational training and general education – that is to create links between these various systems (Koditz and others., 2009). Повний текст джерелаThis study analyzes the narratives that emerged in the news media’s coverage of violent crimes against women during the #MeToo Movement. Additionally, it seeks to uncover if and how news media crime coverage differed based on the race of defendants. I conduct a content analysis of the news media coverage of the criminal cases State of Michigan v. Lawrence Gerard Nassar and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania v. William Henry Cosby, Jr. during the #MeToo Movement. I find that news media coverage of violent crimes against women typically exhibits an inverse relationship in which supportive portrayals of victims predict unsupportive portrayals of defendants, and vice versa. I also find some evidence to suggest that Black male defendants receive more lenient news media coverage than white male defendants. The results of this study demonstrate the power of social movements in influencing criminal justice outcomes and the news media’s role in shaping public opinion on criminal cases

Повний текст джерелаMaster´s thesis presents the research data on sugar beet growth intensity, the formation of leaf area, dry matter accumulation, photosynthetic parameters, yield and sugar content as well as reveals the effect the application of the bio-organic nano fertilizer “NAGRO” had on sugar beet crop. Object of the research: 'Ernestina' variety of sugar beet crop applied by the solution of the universal bio-organic nano fertilizer “NAGRO”. Research methods: The research on crop formation of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L. var. saccharifera) sprayed by “NAGRO” fertilizer was carried out at the Experimental Station of Aleksandras Stulginskis University in 2013. 'Ernestina' variety of sugar beet crop was researched. At the stage of 4 pairs of true leaves the application of “NAGRO” fertilizer solution was made to sugar beet seedlings whereas at the growth stage of 5–6 pairs of leaves the plants of the 3rd and 5th test versions were additionaly applied by the solution of “NAGRO” fertilizer. Other agro measures were carried out in accordance with the growing technology for sugar beet applicable in the Experimental Station. Research results: Additional application of “NAGRO” fertilizer on sugar beet had a positive impact on the sugar beet growth and development processes. The leaf area (14,75%) of sugar beet was significantly higher after twofold application in 1 l ha-1 rate. Повний текст джерелаRape is a socially constructed behavior used in patriarchal societies to devalue women and ensure male supremacy. Being socially constructed means that the definition of rape can change. This thesis addresses the question of whether an established institution—television—can promote a more progressive definition of rape and help delegitimize it. It uses a feminist content analysis to examine the main themes on 14 episodes of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU) aired from 2012-2015. It is qualitative and inductive in nature, approached from a grounded theory perspective. The data demonstrate that SVU does, to some extent, present a more progressive view of rape instead of perpetuating the common stereotypes of rape. Essentially, SVU represents a new variety of definitions of rape that are reflective of white, privileged, heterosexual and young women's experiences in the United States. Повний текст джерелаThis mixed methods research study examined the impact of an intervention designed to prepare mainstream secondary teacher candidates to identify and teach features of Academic English. The intervention was intended to develop Disciplinary Linguistic Knowledge (Turkan, deOliveira, Phelps, and Lee, 2014) through engagement in several tasks for preparing linguistically responsive teachers (Lucas and Villegas, 2013). Pre-tests, post-tests, and artifacts created by teacher candidates in their fieldwork placements, as well as observations of a small group of teacher candidates teaching in their placement classrooms and interviews with these participants, were collected in order to analyze the effect that the intervention had on the teacher candidates’ identification of features of AE and their planning and implementation of instruction in these features. While the teacher candidates accurately identified features of AE on the post-tests and in the artifacts, only a small number of participants planned or implemented instruction in features of AE in their lessons. The experiences of the participants in the small group illustrated that teacher candidates need, in addition to the ability to identify features of Academic English, knowledge about how to teach these features, a commitment to teaching language in their lessons, and the support of supervisors and cooperating teachers who possess the same knowledge and commitment. The findings suggest that teacher education programs should engage both teacher candidates and the individuals who guide the planning and teaching of lessons in their pre-practicum experiences in developing the essential knowledge of and commitment to teaching Academic English in mainstream content area classrooms

Повний текст джерелаThe title of the master‘s thesis is „The qualifying features of murder according to criminal laws of Lithuania and other countries“, therefore the core aim of this work is to disclose the qualifying features of murder provided in criminal codes of the Republic of Lithuania and other countries, invoking comparative method. In order to thoroughly disclose the features of the qualified murder, the juridical reglamentation of this crime is examined in the paper - the conception of murder is discussed in the first part of the paper, afterwards, legal sources that had influence on the development of the present qualified murder content construction in valid criminal laws of the Republic of Lithuania, France, Federation of Germany and Russia are analyzed. As the qualified content of murder includes the main content of murder, the general content of this crime is described in the third part of the paper analyzing objective and subjective features. The analysis of the qualifying features is presented in the greater part of the work where according to the valid criminal laws of the chosen countries, scholarly literature and the practice of courts, every qualifying feature of murder is examined comparing it with the criminal laws of the chosen countries.

Повний текст джерелаThe main objective of Master thesis research was to determine the optimal concentration of urea solution in additional sugar beet fertilization through leaves, in combination with the free amino acids Terra Sorb foliar, which has both nutrient and stimulating effect on plants, ensuring richer root yields and better quality products. Research was carried out in 2011 in Marijampolė r. Agricultural company "Kuktai" ž.ū.b. Soil - shallow Endohypogleyic brown (Epicalcari-Endohypogleyic Cambisols). The objective – sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L. var. Saccharifera), sort ‘Marathon’. Working methods: dry matter content in leaves and roots was determined by drying the plant samples in a thermostat at 105 0C up to the constant weight. Sugar Beet root yield and average root weight was determined by weighing according to accepted procedures. Root sugar was determined in Marijampolė sugar factory. Research results. Additional sugar beet fertilization with urea solutions, in combination with the free amino acids in Terra Sorb foliar treatment, increased the root and leaf yield. The concentrations of 15% of the urea solution burned leaves, resulting in decreased leaf and root yields. When concentration of 1 and 5% urea solution was sprayed yield enhanced by a 3.8% and 9.4%. The biggest amount of Dry matter in the roots of sugar beet was obtained after spraying 10 and 15% urea solution. Повний текст джерелаThe purpose of this research is to identify the categories of South Korean elementary teachers' knowledge for teaching mathematics. Operating under the assumption that elementary teachers' knowledge for teaching affects students' learning, eleven South Korean elementary teachers volunteered to participate in this study. Emerging from the data collected and the subsequent analysis are five categories of South Korean elementary teachers' knowledge for teaching mathematics: Mathematics Curriculum Knowledge, Mathematics Learner Knowledge, Fundamental Mathematics Conceptual Knowledge, Mathematics Pedagogical Content Knowledge, and Mathematics Pedagogical Procedural Knowledge. The first three categories of knowledge play a significant role in mathematics instruction as an integrated form within Mathematics Pedagogical Content Knowledge. A notable conclusion of this study is that Pedagogical Content Knowledge might not be the sum of the other categories of knowledge for teaching mathematics. These findings may be connected to results from relevant studies in terms of the significant role of teachers' knowledge in their mathematics instruction. Повний текст джерелаAim: Sustainability reporting is considered to have problems with a disconnection of financial and non-financial strategies, which IR intends to solve. Previous studies show that IR has been implemented disproportionately, and that the reports referred to as integrated, demonstrated a low IR-level. A possible explanation is a poor understanding of the relatively new concept. Large differences in the IR-level makes it difficult to get a clear picture of the actual implementation of IR. The purpose of this study is to identify the IR-level of large Swedish companies who self-declared their reports as integrated, and to provide practical examples on the basis of the IR framework. Finally, legitimacy theory and greenwashing is used to explain the results. Method: The process of the study has been abductive, and a qualitative strategy has been adopted. The design of the study is cross-sectional. The empirical data were collected through qualitative content analysis of 14 Swedish companies’ annual reports, selected through a purposive sample. Subsequently, data was acquired and analyzed using a coding frame, based on the normative framework. The data have been presented in tables and in narratives. Result & Conclusions: The study has shown that the companies indicate an uneven IR level, where companies have been most successful in strategic focus and future orientation, while a lower level is achieved within materiality and connectivity of information. This may be due to inadequate diffusion of the IR framework and/or due to greenwashing. The mapping thus shows that most reports are mixed rather than integrated. Suggestions for future research: To capture whether the transformation function is part of the companies’ IR, a qualitative case study of individual companies is proposed. Furthermore, a longitudinal study to see how the companies IR-level changes over time would be interesting. Contribution of the thesis: The most important contribution of the study is that the mapping provides practical examples for companies to consider, as well as filling the knowledge gap existing regarding the implementation of IR in Swedish companies.

Повний текст джерелаPresented work analyses the institute of the defence of civil rights – self-defence. It has been known in Lithuania for a very long time. Self-defence was forbidden when Lithuania was occupied by the Soviet Union. As this institute only appeared in the modern civil law in Lithuania together with the new Civil Code, it has not yet been analyzed by Lithuanian law theoreticians in more detail. Practice of courts applying legal norms which regulate self-defence is also limited. All the above mentioned reasons have influenced the author’s decision to analyze civil-defense in the Lithuanian civil law in greater detail.

Den Justizgewärungsanspruch, den die Verfassungen der beiden Ländern durchsetzen, detailisiert die Ordnung der Verwirklichung dieses Rechts in den Gesetzen des Zivilprozesses. In der Arbeit analysiert man den Justizgewärungsanspruch, Inhalt des Justizgewährungsanspruchs (die Prozessvoraussetzungen und die Rechtszugvoraussetzungen sind in den Gesetzen des Zivilprozesses verwirklicht, die in den Gründen der Zurückweisung der Klage festgesstelt sind). Hier werden auch die Werke der Rechtswissenshaftler in Litauen und Österreich besprochen. In einzelnen Teilen dieser Arbeit werden die Gründen der Zurückweisung der Klage besprochen. Diese Gründe analysiert man anhand der Gesetze, der Rechtsprechung, der Wissenschaft des Zivilprozessrechtes. Nach der vergleichenden Analyse der Gesetze des Zivilprozesses in Litauen und Österreich kann man die Schlussfolderung ziehen, das die Gründen der Zurückweisung der Klage fast identisch sind. Der Justizgewährungsanspruch ist ausführlich reglementiert und verwirklicht man ohne Verletzungen der Gesetze. In dieser Magisterarbeit wird der Justizgewaehrungsanspruch im Sinne des prozessrechtlichen Aspektes, d. h. wie das Recht vor Gericht einzuklagen, analysiert. Die Eroerterung vom Justizgewaehrungsanspruch wird mit Anwendung eines Vergleichsmethodes erledigt. Das Ziel dieser Magisterarbeit ist die Prozessordnung der Verwirklichung vom Justizgewaehrungsanspruch in Litauen und in Deutschland zu vergleichen. In beiden Laendern wird der Justizgewaehrungsanspruch auf der obersten Regelungsebene verankert – im Grundgesetz (GG) der Bundesrepublik Deutschlands und in der Verfassung Litauens. Die Rechtsschutzgarantie in privatrechtlichen Verhaeltnissen ist in verfassungrechtlichen Normen unterschiedlich geregelt: Art. 19 Abs.4 GG schuetzt die Rechte des Menschens nur bei Velretzung durch oeffentliche Gewalt. Das Bundesverfassungsgericht hat den aus dem Rechtsstaatsprinzip in Verbindung mit den Grundrechten folgenden allgemeinen Justizgewährungsanspruch zunächst als Grundlage des Rechtsschutzes in zivilrechtlichen Streitigkeiten anerkannt, für die Art.19 Abs.4 GG nicht anwendbar ist. Повний текст джерелаThe majority of this work focuses on the theoretical analysis of collective action, group efficiency, and incentive mechanisms in team contests where individual outlays of heterogeneous agents are not observable. The reward allocation within the group is instead dependent on observable worker characteristics, modeled as individual abilities, as well as on the observable level of aggregate output. I study the incentives for free-riding and the group-size paradox under a very general set of intra-team allocation rules. I further derive the optimal allocation mechanism which rewards agents according to a general-logit specification based on their relative ability. I derive conditions under which a team's performance is most sensitive to the ability of its highest-skill members, while at the same time higher spread in the distribution of ability has a positive effect on group output. In the final chapter I shift attention to the problem of optimal player order choice in dynamic pairwise team battles. I show that even if player order choice is conducted endogenously and sequentially after observing the outcomes of earlier rounds, then complete randomization over remaining agents is always a subgame perfect equilibrium. The zero-sum nature of these type of contests implies that expected payoffs for each team are independent of whether the contest matching pairs are determined endogenously and sequentially or announced before the start of the game. Повний текст джерелаOrganizational culture was originally addressed in the management literature in the late 1970s (e.g. Pettigrew, 1979; Deal & Kennedy, 1982). Scholars have later on extended the discussion to include higher education institutions (e.g. Tierney, 2008). However, the majority of the literature on organizational culture in higher education is based on institutions that follow and are placed within the Western model. Despite the lack of direct evidence, it is fair to suspect that there is a relationship between the culture of an organization and its national/regional context. This study investigates the nature of that relationship and provide real world examples through an in-depth case study on the American University of Madaba (AUM). In evaluating AUM’s organizational culture, this study explores the institution’s organizational identity and its organizational design (the sum of the two, in this study, constitutes the culture of the organization). The data suggests that AUM’s organizational identity holographically (Albert & Whetten, 2004) brings together four different identity pieces: American, Catholic, Jordanian, and not-for-profit. The study concludes that the institution’s focus on its American identity and partial neglect in incorporating its other identity pieces into its organizational design with equal weight lead to a misalignment between its espoused, attributed, shared and aspirational organizational values (Broune & Jenkins, 2013), which ultimately leads to a misalignment between its organizational identity and its organizational design, resulting in what would be generally considered an unhealthy organizational culture (Gulua, 2018). In AUM’s case, this misalignment causes an amended combination of what the literature presents as an expectation gap and a dislocation gap in organizational values (Broune & Jenkins, 2013). However, context-relativity (a crucial concept in this study), with its historical, economic, political, socio-cultural and colonial components, is highly impactful in studying the relationship between AUM’s organizational culture and its national/regional context and impacts our understanding of the initial findings. This study reveals that there is a strong conception in the Middle East that American higher education = good quality (but good quality does not necessarily equal American). Therefore, in the light of context-relativity, AUM’s organizational gaps and the misalignment between its identity and design is not a matter of unauthenticity, but rather lack of options. Being an American institution in the Middle East comes with a market advantage; therefore, such an approach is a way for AUM to survive in a world where global power dynamics carry strong preconceptions about the quality of American higher education. By being American “enough” to maintain its market advantage and being Jordanian “enough” to keep the peace with their students and staff and the surrounding community, AUM, as a young higher education institution, is finding a way to survive and advance its quality in the process

My research seeks to explore the relationship between Mamluk objects, furnishings, and fittings attached to particular foundations in Cairo, The aim of this study is to examine the dialogue between design elements in different media and explore their aesthetic and functional relationship to their surroundings. This will give insight into how designs are transferred across media, and how architecture acted as a meeting place for a variety of artistic disciplines. Повний текст джерелаMicrobial communities are complex networks comprised of multiple species that are facilitating and inhibiting one another (as well as themselves). Currently, we lack an understanding of what mechanisms drive coexistence within these communities. We aimed to remedy this by studying the dynamics of coexisting communities, focusing on the complexity of their interaction networks, the impact of spatial dynamics, and the interplay of facilitating and inhibiting interactions. These limitations in our understanding prevent the furtherment of designing intentional communities for bioremediation, maintenance of healthy microbiota, and other functional communities. To better understand these microbial dynamics, we chose to address the problem from two fronts: computational modeling and exploring dynamics of cocultures. Through our 1-D model, spatial structure fostering more coexistence – especially when facilitation is present. For the coexistence assays, we determined that contact-dependent growth inhibition is a density dependent mechanism, and the use of a Tn-Seq mutant library to predict species interactions is possible, but needs further optimization to reconcile density dependent effects of interactions

Prior research indicates that Spontaneous Focusing On Number (SFON) measured in the preschool years is predictive of mathematical achievement as late as age 12 (Hannula & Lehtinen, 2005; Hannula-Sormunen, Lepola, & Lehtinen, 2010). Therefore, there is great need to examine how young children’s attention to number is affected by various contexts. This study investigated how heterogeneity vs. homogeneity of the arrays, and verbal labels for the quantities presented affected young children’s attention to number, compared to their attention to cumulative surface area. We found that participants preference for and attention to number was correlated with their number knowledge, but only when the items they were presented with were homogeneous, not heterogeneous. This suggests that homogeneous arrays are important for children’s attention to number and individuation and could be used as a tool to help children better hone in on mathematical concepts

Повний текст джерелаSimilarity is one of the most important aspects in the area of information retrieval and data mining. A new trend in similarity judgment assumes that similarity between two objects can not be expressed as a fixed value and depends on the context in which the similarity is measured. However no formal definition of context has yet been specified. In this thesis a new formal context definition is proposed and a method to measure contextual similarity is developed. The main idea behind this method is to extract context information from distinct groups of data. This method is tested with synthetic and real-world data sets comparing context similarity measure with distance based similarity. Results indicate that taking the similarity into account may cause significant changes in object similarity. This work shows the importance of context when measuring similarity.

Criminal liability for sexual satisfaction in a natural, oral or anal way was regulated by a single article of the code – „rape“ and protected only woman‘s self-determination and minor sexual inviolability. Due to effect of the new Criminal Code the rate of rape divided into two crimes – rape and sexual assault taking away the oral and anal way from rape and adding a new feature – other physical contact. The need to criminalize sexual desire satisfaction in other physical contact method resulted in changing public reactions and emerging a new sexual passion for satisfying other forms of physical contact way. However, due to widely formulated concept of this character, courts faced with this character qualification problems. they also had a problem with finding the borderline between young person‘s sexual abuse and satisfaction of sexual passion with young person. also there are sexual assault and rape of continuity and qualificaion of these crimes in coincidence problems. In view of the problems of qualification of these crimes, rape not being considered the most dangerous form of sexual desire satisfaction, comparing these crimes hazard, result and taking into account the fact that the object of these crimes is the same, there are doubts of rape extraction into two offences of necesity. Повний текст джерелаThe majority of exegetes agree that the so-called “Letter” to the Hebrews is actually a homily, meant to be read aloud to a Christian community gathered for worship. In The Context of the Text: Reading Hebrews as a Eucharistic Homily, I argue that the specific venue for the public reading of Hebrews was a celebration of the Eucharist. It is my contention that the author presumed and exploited this Eucharistic setting in order to bolster his claims about the superiority of Christ and his sacrifice to the sacrifices of the “first covenant”, as well as to entreat his readers to remain faithful to Christian Eucharistic worship. This dissertation begins in Chapter 1 by considering the “state of the question,” examining the positions of scholars who take – respectively – negative, agnostic and positive positions regarding Eucharistic references in Hebrews. Chapter 2 situates the question of Hebrews and the Eucharist within the broader milieu of the liturgical provenance of New Testament writings. Chapter 3 considers the issues of Hebrews’ authorship, date of composition, audience, rhetorical strategy, and literary structure as they pertain to my argument that the text was written for proclamation at the Eucharist. Chapter 4 offers an extensive study of several passages from Hebrews which appear to allude to the Eucharist without mentioning the sacrament explicitly (Hebrews 6:4; 9:20; 10:19-25; 12:22-24; 13:10; and 13:15), setting forth the claim that the allusive nature of these references is explained by the Eucharistic milieu for which the homily was written. In particular, I argue that a Eucharistic understanding of Hebrews 13:10 (“We have an altar from which those who officiate in the tent have no right to eat”) is the linchpin for understanding other Eucharistic references in Hebrews and that this verse serves as a major reinforcement of the author’s earlier claims regarding the supreme efficacy of Christ’s redemptive work. I hold that the author’s mention of an “altar” in 13:10 is meant to be understood as a reference to the Eucharistic table and that, taken as such, this statement parallels the claim in 8:1 (“We have such a high priest”) in order to demonstrate that Christians have both a superior priest (Christ) and a superior cultic act (the Eucharist). Finally, Chapter 5 considers interpretive traditions (particularly patristic and Eastern) which bolster the case for a Eucharistic interpretation of Hebrews

Adolescence is a critical developmental stage where the health behaviors and choices that adolescents make have the potential to affect their long-term health and well-being (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). This dissertation contributes three distinct studies on the contextual influences that shape adolescents' health behaviors. The first study, "The Role of Psychosocial Conditions on Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Risk among U.S. Young Adults," grounded in life course and syndemics theory, utilized logistic regressions to examine the role of co-occurring psychosocial conditions (childhood sexual abuse and physical abuse; depression and illicit drug use in adolescence) on STI infection (chlamydia and trichomoniasis) and sexual risk behaviors among U.S. young adults. Multiple co-occurring psychosocial conditions had an additive effect on sexual risk behaviors but no effect was observed on STIs. The second study, "Sexually Transmitted Infections and Neighborhood Poverty: The Role of Individual Resilience and Social Connectedness," utilized resilience and ecological systems theory, and logistic regressions to test if individual resilience and social connectedness (maternal, peer, and school) moderate the association between concentrated neighborhood poverty and STIs (chlamydia and trichomoniasis) among U.S. young adults. The study's main finding is that youth who reported more school connectedness and lived in high concentrated poverty in adolescence were less likely to test positive for chlamydia but were more likely to test positive for trichomoniasis. Utilizing a similar framework, "Sleeping in a Digital World: The Role of Excessive Media Use on Sleep Inadequacy Among U.S. Adolescents," examined family and neighborhood determinants that shape adolescent sleep behaviors. Grounded in the ecological systems theory and social learning theory, logistic regressions, stratified by age (aged 10-12 vs. 13-17), were used to examine the associations between excessive media use and sleep inadequacy. The study found that among older adolescents, sleep inadequacy was associated with excessive computer use. Older adolescents who watched television excessively and had media present in the bedroom were more likely to be sleep inadequate. Together, these three studies shed light on the different contextual environments in which adolescents experience health risks and resilience and will help to inform interventions that promote adolescent health and well-being
