The ‘Person-Based Approach’ to intervention development uses qualitative and mixed methods to ensure that the process of intervention development takes into account the beliefs, attitudes, needs and context of the particular user group the intervention is designed to target. Qualitative research is used in several ways: in the form of a background literature search, in collecting qualitative data from target users to assess their specific needs, and in ‘think-aloud’ interviews that gather detailed feedback on each aspect of the intervention from target users. This allows iterative development of the intervention to be based directly on the input of the target users. We provide an overview of best practices when using the Person-Based Approach, together with examples of aspects of intervention development from previously-developed interventions, including feedback from target users from the beginning of intervention development results in interventions that are more likely to make a difference in practice.

Rural women are often termed as ‘agents of change’ for a successful development intervention. Women collectives as a tool/medium of change has in recent years, gained recognition as an effective intervention to empower women in developing countries. Sehgal Foundation (SF), an NGO based in Haryana, India, spearheads women collectives since 2014 to impart confidence among women representatives and strengthen their bargaining power in all walks of life. This gender-focused intervention leads to externalities that may be uncalled for and is inadequately acknowledged in the literature. An assessment of SF’s work in Nuh, Haryana points to need to include men in the programme to facilitate a long-lasting and meaningful change in gender dynamics. This prerequisite to warrant social change is often implied in various research areas, that is, the importance of focusing on the community, specifically, males, for sustainable development. This essay provides empirical evidence to the same and proposes a gender-transformative approach to interventions as a solution to address gender specificity in development interventions.

Greater understanding of the mechanisms (mediators) by which behavioral-change interventions work is critical to developing theory and refining interventions. Although systematic reviews have been advocated as a method for exploring mediators, this is rarely done. One challenge is that intervention researchers typically test only two paths of the mediational model: the effect of the intervention on mediators and on outcomes. The authors addressed this challenge by drawing information not only from intervention studies but also from observational studies that provide data on associations between potential mediators and outcomes. They also reviewed qualitative studies of participants’ perceptions of why and how interventions worked. Using data from intervention ( n = 37) and quantitative observational studies ( n = 55), the authors conducted a meta-analysis of the mediation effects of eight variables. Qualitative findings ( n = 6) contributed to more in-depth explanations for findings. The methods used have potential to contribute to understanding of core mechanisms of behavioral-change interventions.

Health and behavioural inequalities exist in all populations, including children. As a social determinant of health, health literacy is a crucial driver of equitable health outcomes in children. With the increasing calls for more actions on addressing low health literacy and inequalities, health literacy interventions to improve children’s healthy behaviours have emerged as a key strategy to reduce health inequities. However, health literacy interventions face implementation challenges impacting upon potential outcomes, and disparities in the implementation of health literacy interventions also occur. Variation exists in child health literacy intervention target groups, timing, content and formats, and there is a lack of implementation specificity, resulting in a lack of clarity about which intervention strategies are the most effective in improving health literacy, related health behaviours, and associated health outcomes. While actions to facilitate child health intervention implementation exist, to minimise further perpetuation of child health inequities, this perspective calls for a health equity implementation approach to child health literacy interventions.

Abstract Background Theoretical frameworks have recommended organisational-level interventions to decrease employee withdrawal behaviours such as sickness absence and employee turnover. However, evaluation of such interventions has produced inconclusive results. The aim of this study was to investigate if mixed-effects models in combination with time series analysis, process evaluation, and reference group comparisons could be used for evaluating the effects of an organisational-level intervention on employee withdrawal behaviour. Methods Monthly data on employee withdrawal behaviours (sickness absence, employee turnover, employment rate, and unpaid leave) were collected for 58 consecutive months (before and after the intervention) for intervention and reference groups. In total, eight intervention groups with a total of 1600 employees participated in the intervention. Process evaluation data were collected by process facilitators from the intervention team. Overall intervention effects were assessed using mixed-effects models with an AR (1) covariance structure for the repeated measurements and time as fixed effect. Intervention effects for each intervention group were assessed using time series analysis. Finally, results were compared descriptively with data from process evaluation and reference groups to disentangle the organisational-level intervention effects from other simultaneous effects. Results All measures of employee withdrawal behaviour indicated statistically significant time trends and seasonal variability. Applying these methods to an organisational-level intervention resulted in an overall decrease in employee withdrawal behaviour. Meanwhile, the intervention effects varied greatly between intervention groups, highlighting the need to perform analyses at multiple levels to obtain a full understanding. Results also indicated that possible delayed intervention effects must be considered and that data from process evaluation and reference group comparisons were vital for disentangling the intervention effects from other simultaneous effects. Conclusions When analysing the effects of an intervention, time trends, seasonal variability, and other changes in the work environment must be considered. The use of mixed-effects models in combination with time series analysis, process evaluation, and reference groups is a promising way to improve the evaluation of organisational-level interventions that can easily be adopted by others.

AbstractObjectiveWe aim to deliver a framework with 2 main objectives: 1) facilitating the design of theory-driven, adaptive, digital interventions addressing chronic illnesses or health problems and 2) producing personalized intervention delivery strategies to support self-management by optimizing various intervention components tailored to people’s individual needs, momentary contexts, and psychosocial variables.Materials and MethodsWe propose a template-based digital intervention design mechanism enabling the configuration of evidence-based, just-in-time, adaptive intervention components. The design mechanism incorporates a rule definition language enabling experts to specify triggering conditions for interventions based on momentary and historical contextual/personal data. The framework continuously monitors and processes personal data space and evaluates intervention-triggering conditions. We benefit from reinforcement learning methods to develop personalized intervention delivery strategies with respect to timing, frequency, and type (content) of interventions. To validate the personalization algorithm, we lay out a simulation testbed with 2 personas, differing in their various simulated real-life conditions.ResultsWe evaluate the design mechanism by presenting example intervention definitions based on behavior change taxonomies and clinical guidelines. Furthermore, we provide intervention definitions for a real-world care program targeting diabetes patients. Finally, we validate the personalized delivery mechanism through a set of hypotheses, asserting certain ways of adaptation in the delivery strategy, according to the differences in simulation related to personal preferences, traits, and lifestyle patterns.ConclusionWhile the design mechanism is sufficiently expandable to meet the theoretical and clinical intervention design requirements, the personalization algorithm is capable of adapting intervention delivery strategies for simulated real-life conditions.

In recent years, the relevance of eHealth interventions has become increasingly evident. However, a sequential procedural application to cocreating eHealth interventions is currently lacking. This paper demonstrates the implementation of a participatory design (PD) process to inform the design of an eHealth intervention aiming to enhance well-being. PD sessions were conducted with 57 people across four sessions. Within PD sessions participants experienced prototype activities, provided feedback and designed program interventions. A 5-week eHealth well-being intervention focusing on lifestyle, habits, physical activity, and meditation was proposed. The program is suggested to be delivered through online workshops and online community interaction. A five-step PD process emerged; namely, (1) collecting best practices, (2) participatory discovery, (3) initial proof-of-concept, (4) participatory prototyping, and (5) pilot intervention proof-of-concept finalisation. Health professionals, behaviour change practitioners and program planners can adopt this process to ensure end-user cocreation using the five-step process. The five-step PD process may help to create user-friendly programs.

How do third parties decide to intervene in civil conflicts? The study of intervention has focused primarily on the conflict characteristics and dyadic linkages that make intervention more likely, or the conflict outcomes that interventions generate, while holding all else equal. To paint a more complete picture of what goes into the intervention decision, I advocate a shift in the way we conceive of interventions toward network analysis, which grants due agency to the multiple external actors and internal combatants that influence the decision to intervene. This review critically examines and synthesizes the recent literature on third-party interventions in civil conflict and, in so doing, identifies some areas for future research.

Abstract Purpose of the Review This review highlights knowledge gaps surrounding the development and use of interventions for Acute Stress Reactions (ASRs). First, we propose that a stepped care approach to intervention for ASR be developed and utilized in military operational environments. A stepped care approach would include detection and assessment, followed by behavioral intervention, and then medication intervention for ASRs. Second, we discuss potential strategies that can be taken for the development of safe and effective ASR medications. Recent Findings ASRs commonly occur in operational environments, particularly in military populations. ASRs impact the safety and performance of individual service members and teams, but there are currently limited options for intervention. Summary Efforts to improve ASR detection and assessment, and development and delivery of ASR interventions for implementation in operational environments, will be critical to maintaining the safety and performance of service members.

Social intervention is a program designed to address social issues or achieve specific goals within society. Interventions are typically carried out by implementing the same program for all participant groups, known as a single intervention approach. However, this approach does not take into account the variations in participants' responses to the intervention. Consequently, participants may receive interventions that are not suitable for them, hence affecting the effectiveness of the intervention itself. Adaptive intervention is an approach needed to overcome such limitation. In adaptive intervention, the intervention is delivered in sequence and adjusted based on participants' responses to the initial intervention. Interventionist can modify the program through alternative interventions to tailor it to participants' needs. Compared to single intervention, adaptive intervention have the advantage of ensuring that participants only receive intervention that are suitable for their responses. However, adaptive interventions are still not widely implemented in Indonesia. This article aims to provide guidance on designing and evaluating adaptive intervention to enhance the effectiveness of social intervention in achieving desired goals. As an illustration, we use two interventions at each stage of adaptive intervention design.

Abstract While some countries are making progress reducing greenhouse gas emissions, few are progressing rapidly enough to be on track to reach net zero emissions by mid-century. The transition to net zero involves deep structural transformation of the global economy and its associated complex socio-technical systems. Here, we set out a conceptual framework to identify ‘sensitive intervention points’ (SIPs) in systems where a small or moderately-sized intervention could drive outsized impacts and transformational change. These points take three forms: (i) critical tipping points, such as a critical price threshold, (ii) critical nodes in networks, such as an influential actor in a social network, and (iii) critical points in time, where windows of opportunity for change open up. We also propose an assessment methodology for prioritizing interventions in terms of their potential impacts, risks, and ease of implementation. We apply our framework and assessment methodology to evaluate a list of proposed interventions for accelerating global decarbonization. Promising interventions include investing in key clean energy technologies with consistent cost declines, introducing central bank policies to reduce the value of polluting collateral, and enhancing climate-related financial risk disclosure.

BackgroundPublic health interventions are increasingly being recognised as complex and context dependent. Related to this is the need for a systemic and dynamic conception of interventions that raises the question of delineating the scope and contours of interventions in complex systems. This means identifying which elements belong to the intervention (and therefore participate in its effects and can be transferred), which ones belong to the context and interact with the former to influence results (and therefore must be taken into account when transferring the intervention) and which contextual elements are irrelevant to the intervention.DiscussionThis paper, from which derives criteria based on a network framework, operationalises how the context and intervention systems interact and identify what needs to be replicated as interventions are implemented in different contexts. Representing interventions as networks (composed of human and non-human entities), we introduce the idea that the density of interconnections among the various entities provides a criterion for distinguishing core intervention from intervention context without disconnecting the two systems. This differentiates endogenous and exogenous intervention contexts and the mediators that connect them, which form the fuzzy and constantly changing intervention/context interface.ConclusionWe propose that a network framework representing intervention/context systems constitutes a promising approach for deriving empirical criteria to delineate the scope and contour of what is replicable in an intervention. This approach should allow better identification and description of the entities that have to be transferred to ensure the potential effectiveness of an intervention in a specific context.

Present era is the era of communicable diseases. Whole world is facing a pandemic in the form of Novel Corona Virus. Each and every country fight with corona virus through a common way of prevention. There is no treatment and no vaccine available till today for corona virus. Hit and trial technique is used by many countries. Only and only treatment available is prevention. Lockdown for maintaining social distancing is applied by many countries for its prevention and to flat the curve of this pandemic. People should be aware of its duty, behavior, and conduct to prevent the spread of pandemic and also to boost immune system. Ayurveda lucidly describes various measures to prevent Communicable as well as non-communicable disease. Sadvritta is one of them. Obeying the rules and regulation mentioned in Sadvritta play a vital role to achieve long and healthy life in terms of physical, psychological, social, moral and even spiritual aspect. So for maintaining proper health, application of Ayurvedic concepts of Sadvritta in today’s Perspective of pandemic is quiet important than anything else.

Recently, concern has been expressed by mental health professionals, MIND, and the police regarding the management of Section 136 referrals, which at present varies according to the local psychiatric services available. In the majority of London Metropolitan Boroughs a person deemed to be in need of care and control is taken first to a police station where the necessary documentation is completed and then transported, often a considerable distance, to a mental hospital for the purpose of assessment. This can result in lengthy delays in a police cell for the patient, time-consuming negotiations with hospitals for the police, and problems completing the assessment procedure due to lack of availability of social workers. The importance of considering alternatives, particularly with the move towards community care, has been stressed.

The development of nursing, especially related to the nursing intervention approach, is running so fast. This can be seen from the use of peer group support in nursing interventions in individual humans. The purpose of this literature is to find the impact of implementing nursing interventions using a peer group support approach. This literature review method uses JBI and Prisma on 120 articles taken from journal databases, namely Scopus, PubMed and ScienceDirect. From the articles analyzed, it was found that the application of peer groups can improve individual abilities both in psychological and behavioral aspects. The application of the peer group approach is able to be one of the approaches in the world of nursing in carrying out nursing actions today.

Purpose This review article introduces research methods for personalization of intervention. Our goals are to review evidence-based practices for improving social communication impairment in children with autism spectrum disorder generally and then how these practices can be systematized in ways that personalize intervention, especially for children who respond slowly to an initial evidence-based practice. Method The narrative reflects on the current status of modular and targeted interventions on social communication outcomes in the field of autism research. Questions are introduced regarding personalization of interventions that can be addressed through research methods. These research methods include adaptive treatment designs and the Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial. Examples of empirical studies using research designs are presented to answer questions of personalization. Conclusion Bridging the gap between research studies and clinical practice can be advanced by research that attempts to answer questions pertinent to the broad heterogeneity in children with autism spectrum disorder, their response to interventions, and the fact that a single intervention is not effective for all children. Intervention analysis was employed to determine the existence of political business cycles in the United States and the United Kingdom; the two economic variables tested were unemployment and disposable personal income. The political intervention variables were the party in power, the timing of the elections, the incumbent running for re-election, and the existence of a state of war. The technique proved successful at showing significant interventions.

In this research, the effect of central bank intervention within a heterogeneous expectation exchange rate model is investigated. The results are supporting both chartists and fundamentalist regimes. In the period investigated, chartist dominates in determining the exchange rate. While BI foreign exchange intervention can effectively push the market exchange-rate to its long-run fundamental equilibrium, however, Bank Indonesia’s effort to exert a stabilizing effect of foreign exchange interventions, the result does not show a success. ABSTRACT Objective: to describe the speech-language therapist role in the interdisciplinary team in the intervention of Orofacial motricity in the temporomandibular dysfunction documented in scientific publications. Methods: the search was conducted in well-known databases using the following terms or terminological associations: Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD), stomatognathic system and TMD, Mastication, Speech and TMD. Interventions related to voice or temporomandibular joint indemnity were not included. Results: the interventions indicated in the scientific publications are described, giving an account of the role of the speech pathologist in the TMD intervention team. Conclusion: the therapist’s intervention in Orofacial Motricity restores the stomatognathic system by addressing its functions. An isolated treatment approach from professionals overlooks the relationship of interdependence between function and structure. An appeal for an integrated and interdisciplinary work model, setting it free from the traditional fragmentary and multidisciplinary model, is made.

Multiple factors contribute to community practice’s ongoing challenge of developing effective, evidence-informed, and socially just practice interventions. Currently, rationally driven systematic reviews dominate intervention design and development in various interprofessional applied health and human service fields, including community practice. As a result, community interventions often undergo significant development outside complex community contexts in which social problems manifest. Drawing from a case example of one author’s participation in a community engaged intervention development study based on mobilizing across differences, this piece advances an inclusive approach to community-based participatory intervention development driven by critical grounded theory. Undergirded by critical research perspectives, the article offers an early-stage intervention development methodology derived from the field in collaboration with community practitioners and resident leaders. Built upon existing interdisciplinary scholarship, it blends prominent intervention development frameworks, participatory research approaches, and critical grounded theory methods. Authors aim to aid scholars, practitioners, and community leaders in developing socially just, inclusive, and contextually relevant intervention approaches that originate from within communities directly impacted by social problems.

Abstract: Evaluating interventions in the practice setting calls for an alternative approach to the traditional randomized controlled trial (RCT), as its feasibility and generalizability, and clinical utility of its results are being questioned. The theory-driven approach (TDA) to evaluation, as an alternative to the RCT, attempts to account for the realities of practice. The TDA specifies the causal processes underlying the intervention effects, and identifies its expected outcomes as well as factors that affect treatment processes, such as patient, intervener, and setting characteristics. In this article, the TDA to intervention evaluation is presented as a means of designing and conducting evaluation. The TDA is discussed at the conceptual level and illustrated with examples from a pilot study that examined the effectiveness of a communication enhancement intervention designed to improve the communication skills of nursing staff in a complex continuing care (CCC) facility.
