Purpose – Adopting a person-environment (P-E) fit approach, the purpose of this paper is to examine the role of emotional labour, segmentation/integration and social support in the development of work-home conflict. Design/methodology/approach – Mental health professionals (n=118) completed the work-home conflict and home-work conflict scales (Netemeyer et al., 1996), the segmentation preferences and supplies scales (Kreiner, 2006) and the Mann Emotion Requirements Inventory (Mann, 1999). A social support checklist was also developed to assess the perceived value of work and non-work sources of support. Findings – Contrary to expectation, emotional labour was associated with lower levels of work-home conflict. There was no evidence found for the relevance of a P-E fit approach, rather the results indicated that the perception that the organisation supports the separation of work and home is sufficient in ameliorating work-home conflict. In addition, work-based support was found to reduce work-home conflict. Research limitations/implications – The importance of support within the work environment as a way of reducing work-home conflict has been highlighted. That is, providing a safe environment to discuss anxieties and concerns is a fundamental factor when developing organisational support structure. The importance of providing professionals with choice regarding their preference to segment or integrate work and home has also been highlighted. Based on the contradictory findings with regards to emotional labour and work-home conflict, future research should aim to further examine this relationship within a forensic psychiatric setting. Originality/value – This is the first research paper to explore the role of emotional labour, segmentation/integration and social support in the development of work-home conflict.

This study addresses altered states of consciousness through Holotropic breathwork. This technique can induce a state of deep trance, giving access to different levels of identity construction, particularly on the emotional, somatic and psychological level. This considerable piece of introspective work falls within the school of transpersonal psychology whose major contribution is the integration of transcendent nature into human dimension. The objective is to estimate the transcendent impact of this psychotherapeutic method. The sample consists of 115 male and female participants who have tried this technique at least once. Data were collected through the Adult Transcendence Inventory (Levenson, 2005), in order to assess the level of decentration. Our statistically validated results indicate a predominantly positive impact of this psychotherapy, demonstrating a transcendental effect of the holotropic method.

Introduction: Physician burnout is associated with medical error, patient dissatisfaction, and poorer physician health. Urologists have reported high levels of burnout and poor work-life integration compared with other physicians. Burnout rates among Canadian urologists has not been previously investigated. We aimed to establish the prevalence of Canadian urologist burnout and associated factors. Methods: In the 2018 Canadian Urological Association census, the Maslach Burnout Inventory questions were assigned to all respondents. Responses from 105 practicing urologists were weighted by region and age group to represent 609 urologists in Canada. Burnout was defined as scoring high on the scales of emotional exhaustion or depersonalization. Demographic and practice variables were assessed to establish factors associated with burnout. Comparisons were made to the results of the 2016 American Urological Association census. Results: Overall, 31.8% of respondents met the criteria for burnout. There was no effect of subspecialty practice or practice setting on burnout. On univariate analysis, rates of burnout were highest among urologists under financial strain (50.8%), female urologists (45.3%), and early-to-mid-career urologists (37.7–41.8%). Factors associated with demanding practices and poor work-life integration were predictive of burnout. A total of 12.2% of urologists reported seeking burnout resources and 54.0% wished there were better resources available. Conclusions: Urologist burnout in Canada is lower than reported in other countries, but contributing factors are similar. Urologists who report demanding clinical practices (particularly in early-to-mid career), poor work-life integration, financial strain, and female gender may benefit from directed intervention for prevention and management of burnout. Burnout resources for Canadian urologists require further development.

ABSTRACTThis work reports the research that was the subject of the master’s thesis of a Brazilian student, graduated from the University of Messina in Clinical and Health Psychology in the Life Cycle - A. A. 2018/2019. Studying abroad is not a simple choice. Students who decide to face this type of experience undergo great cognitive, physical and personal challenges. This type of change can expose the student to emotional vulnerability, favoring the onset of difficulties such as managing daily tasks, coping with the load of studies, exams and money management (Forbes-Mewett & Sawyer, 2016). The objective of the research was to examine the relationship between attachment style and emotional experience in a sample of university foreign students; specifically symptoms related to separation anxiety and depressive symptoms. The study involved 80 foreign students enrolled at the University of Messina in a three-year degree course; master degree or Ph.D. Participants answered a structured questionnaire related to their experience of studying abroad, as well as an instrument that checked the attachment style (Revised attachment scale for adults - Version for close relationships, Collins, 1996); an instrument that assessed the presence of anxiety symptoms (Measure of severity for separation anxiety disorder - adult, APA, 2013) and an instrument to verify the presence of depression symptoms (Beck Depression Inventory – II, Beck, Steer e Brown, 1967). The results of this research offer ideas for improving the services offered to foreign students, in order to encourage integration at the University of Messina and the successful outcome of studies. Keywords: Attachment. Introduction According to the World Health Organization, "Burnout syndrome occurs due to chronic stress in the workplace” and includes physical and psychological symptoms. The current COVID-19 pandemic has created an overload of work for health professionals worldwide, sometimes exceeding their capacities and even leading to suicide. Angola is a developing country and its health system is still fragile, for this reason the pandemic could have a serious impact. In March the first cases of COVID-19 were registered and their incidence progressively increased. Objective To determine the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in Health Professionals who assisted suspected and confirmed cases with COVID-19 in Angola, between May and September 2020. Methodology An observational, descriptive and transversal study was carried out with 250 professionals (196 from Luanda and 54 from Benguela) who work in health institutions that care suspected and confirmed cases with COVID-19. The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-HSS) was applied, which includes three subscales: emotional exhaustion or fatigue, depersonalization and personal fulfillment. High levels of the first two and low levels of the third are indicative of the situation. The professionals' sociodemographic information was also obtained. Results It was found that 60% of participants were female, mean age 35 years, with a predominance of nurses (50%). Professionals from Luanda assisted an average of 61 patients per week while those from Benguela assisted 12. The average score on the three behavior subscales was high in both genders and provinces, with significantly higher values of emotional fatigue in women and greater personal fulfillment among professionals in Luanda. Burnout Syndrome was diagnosed in 9.3% of professionals in Luanda and 4.6% in Benguela, with no statistical differences found between women and men (6.2 vs 4.5) Conclusions Despite the low frequency of Burnout syndrome and the fact that there are high levels of exhaustion and depersonalization at the beginning of the pandemic, it leads to believe that there will be an increase in the number of cases of Burnout due to a greater demand for work, triggered by the worsening of the pandemic. This finding should be taken into account by health system managers to safeguard the well-being of their professionals and patients, namely Work shifts with shorter periods; Integration of more professionals in understaffed service teams; encouraging breaks throughout the day; Adequate food/ nutrients according to the time of day; creation of social support programs; encouragement to practice physical exercises and relaxation; monthly payment of COVID-19 epidemiological risk subsidies; Personal Protective Equipment; greater availability of drugs and materials for clinical monitoring of critically ill patients; presence of a physician specialized in intensive care in each work shift; as psychological support. Introduction The integration of virtual reality into everyday life is changing sociocultural practices, including those related to cyberaggression, which causes negative consequences for mental health and well-being. Particular attention needs to be paid to the poorly researched but widespread roles of bystanders and defenders in cyberaggression (Machackova, 2020; Polanco-Levican, Salvo-Garrido, 2021). Objectives The aim is to study the behavioral witness strategies in cyberaggression in VR and their relation to personal and psychophysiological characteristics. Methods 50 adolescents aged 14-18 years old (50% female) witnessed cyberaggression in an experimental situation in the virtual space of VR-chat. Participants also filled Ten-Item Personality Inventory (Gosling et al., 2003; Egorova, Parshikova, 2016), I7-Impulsiveness (Eysenck, Eysenck, 1985; Kornilova, Dolnikova, 2011), Prosocial Behaviour (Furmanov, Kuhtova, 1998). To determine the functional state Heart rate variability (UPTF 1/30 Psychophysiologist, Mediсom) was measured before and after the experiment. Results Behavioral strategies in VR-aggression were divided into uninvolved bystanders (58%) and defenders (42%). All participants experienced stress and functional state decline when faced with cyberaggression, but the defenders were more affected (U=207, p<0.043). Defenders were more likely to have higher social responsibility (U=207, p<0.056) and lower neuroticism (U=208, p<0.054). There were no significant differences in impulsiveness. Conclusions Cyberaggression in a virtual environment is stressful, especially for active defenders, who are more included in the situation compared to passive bystanders. The prosocial role of a defender rather than a passive bystander may be related to such characteristics as social responsibility and emotional stability, but not to impulsiveness. Statement of the problem. In the context of global threats and uncertainty, readiness for change becomes not only an important personal characteristic and competence of a manager, but also a key factor in the successful implementation of organizational changes and in the competitiveness of an enterprise [Naumtseva, 2016, Lukhmanova, 2019]. The accomplished nature of all components of this competence: value-motivational, cognitive, emotional-volitional, behavioral and reflexive – is a necessary resource for the introduction of reforms and innovations, or for the successful adaptation of an enterprise in a constantly changing socio-economic context. In this regard, the set of important competence characteristics of a modern manager includes the ability and readiness to use innovative approaches and technologies, both in organizing their own individual style of activity and in optimizing all areas of the enterprise’s activity [Kirillov, 2015]. Such abilities as part of managerial competence are formed due to the cognitive and motivational-semantic aspect within the framework of the newly formed structure, readiness for change. Therefore, it is important to consider the essence of these components and rationalize their impact on the effectiveness of changes, both intrapersonal and organizational. The purpose of the article is to specify the behavioral indicators of the formation of the value-motivational and cognitive aspects of readiness for change and to discuss the features of the value-motivational and cognitive components of the readiness-for-change competence among managers. The theoretical and methodological basis of the study is the general psychological theory of set (D.N. Uznadze), subject-activity approach (S.L. Rubinshtein, B.G. Ananiev, V.A. Krutetsky, K.K. Platonov, etc.), competence-based approach (Yu.G. Tatur, I.A. Zimnyaya, A.V. Khutorskoy, etc.), integrative approach (M.I. Faerman), competence-based approach in managing innovative changes (T.A. Terekhova), innovative approach (L.A. Zhuravlev), psychological readiness for innovation (S.R. Yagolkovsky, O.V. Sovetova, M.I. Kiloshenko, E.V. Ivanova, V.E. Klochko, O.M. Krasnoryadtseva), and works devoted to psychological problems and mechanisms of formation of readiness for activity (M.I. Dyachenko, L.A. Kandybovich, R.D. Sanzhaeva, O.V. Makhova). The study involved 150 employees of a group of companies in the IT/Telecom sphere in Krasnoyarsk. The California Personality Inventory (CPI) and the Schwartz personal values questionnaire were used for assessment. Statistical data processing included a comparison of samples and an analysis of the interdependence of characteristics. Research results. The main results of the study are the obtained characteristics of the formation of the value-motivational and cognitive components of the readiness-for-change competence in the following categories: top management, middle management, and specialists. It is noted that in order to develop the readiness-for-change competence, managers need to work with such values as stimulation and independence, which activate the internal motivation of creativity and the desire for novelty both at the personal level and at the level of the corporate environment. The cognitive component is quite well developed in specialists, middle-level managers, and top managers. This indicates, on the one hand, that talent acquisition is performed in accordance with the established requirements for the position, and on the other hand, that the professional competences are developed in the process of performing work tasks. However, for middle-level managers and top managers, the flexibility scale (Fx) requires development, while this is not necessary for specialists as part of their regulated activities. Conclusion. One of the psychological and pedagogical prerequisites for the development of the readiness-for-change competence in managers is the development and implementation of a corporate training program that would stimulate development of the individual components of the readiness-for-change competence and the competence as a whole.

Abstract Background IBD, including Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), are chronic recurrent inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, most often diagnosed in adolescence and young adulthood. Extra-intestinal manifestation (EIM) may be present initially in up 50% or before IBD is diagnosed. IBD and its complications are associated with morbidity and has considerable impact upon patients’ health-related quality of life (HRQoL). HRQoL is an essential complement to the examination of clinical symptoms and functional limitations and has emerged as an important outcome measure to evaluate an individual’s adaptation to a chronic medical condition like IBD. It is known the neurocognitive maturation that support integration of executive and emotion systems are not fully mature until 25 years, making this period a time of socio-emotional vulnerability and adjustment. So, our objective was to evaluate the HRQoL in adolescents and young adults (AYA) patients with IBD and compare with a peer’s health control and investigate the variables which can be attributed to HRQoL in these patients. Methods 59 AYA IBD patients (13–25 years) and 60 AYA healthy controls (13–25 years) completed the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0 (PedsQL4.0), Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) questionnaires and pain visual scale, according to age. After we compared HRQoL between Crohn’s disease (CD) vs. UC (ulcerative colitis) in AYA population. The demographic data, extra-intestinal manifestation, overlap syndromes, disease active status, treatment and outcomes were also evaluated. Results PedsQL4.0 domain ‘school/ work’ and SF-36 domain ‘general health perception’ was reduced in IBD AYA patients compared with healthy controls (p < 0.05). However, no difference in all domains and pain scale was observed between CD and UC AYA patients. Disease activity, as well as extra-intestinal manifestations, overlap syndromes, treatments and outcomes, did not influence the HRQoL of the AYA patients. Autoimmune sclerosing cholangitis and the use of prednisone were significantly higher among UC patients, whereas previous gut surgery was higher between CD patients. However, these disease factors did not significantly influence the HRQoL between CD vs. UC. Conclusion HRQoL was significantly lower among IBD AYA patients when compared with healthy controls. Disease factors did not influence HRQoL between CD and UC AYA patients. These results highlight areas to focus clinical attention for assessment and future interventions among AYA with IBD.

The general objetive of this paper is to better understand emotional expression in people with autism. In the first place, we will focus on the identification of patterns in emotional communication in order to demonstrate that people with autism show emotional communicative intentions but not following the normalized patterns (Alonso, Fernández and Suberviola, 2007). In the second place, we want to correlate patters identified by professionals and families in order to determine if there is a common ground among them. Plutchik (2001) identifies four pairs of Basic emotions -sadness/happiness, acceptance/disgust, fear/anger and anticipation/surprise - plus secondary emotions, resulting from the combinations of the above in different degrees of intensity. In order to clarify and make known these atypical emotional reactions, we have devised a measurement instrument which will allow us to gather information and work out an answer inventory from people with TEA.The instrument consists of three different parts:a) Personal identification. Data gathering on socio economic and cultural status of the family, schooling, and diagnosis of the person with TEA,b) physiological needs that can provoke emotions (for instance, hunger or thirst) andc) emotional states (following Plutchik taxonomy), distinguishing verbal and non verbal behaviour and the accompanying facial expressions that are used. The reliability of the instrument has been assessed by two extensive interjudge tests conducted by a wide number of national and international experts from different professional fields related to TEA: direct attention, advice and support, assessment and diagnosis, and study and research.

Background: Burnout is a major problem for nursing. There is a strong relationship between work stress and emotional exhaustion. Although studies report a negative correlation between the internal locus of control and emotional exhaustion and work stress, the number of studies available on the subject is limited. Purpose: This study intends to examine the extent to which the relationship between work stress and emotional exhaustion is mediated by nurses’ internal locus of control. Methods: The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling techniques. The study sample consisted of 347 nurses who worked in a university hospital in Izmir, Turkey and who agreed to participate in the study. The Work-Related Strain Inventory was used to evaluate the nurses’ work stress level, Maslach Burnout Inventory was used to evaluate their emotional exhaustion levels, and the Locus of Control Scale was used to evaluate the internal locus of control. The variables of the study were based on the Neuman Systems Model. Results: Work stress was positively related to internal locus of control (β = .21, p < .001), which was, in turn, negatively associated with emotional exhaustion (β = −.03, p > 0.1). Internal locus of control was negatively related to emotional exhaustion (β = −.14, p < .001). Work stress is directly (β = .87, p < .001) and indirectly related to emotional exhaustion (mediated by internal locus of control β = .84, p < .001). Work stress is directly (β = .87, p < .001) and indirectly related to emotional exhaustion (mediated by internal locus of control, β = .84, p < .001). Conclusion: Although the relationship between emotional exhaustion and work stress was mediated, the impact of internal locus of control was limited. It is recommended that different variables be included in future studies so that they can mediate the relationship between work stress and emotional exhaustion.

Developmental Counseling and Therapy (DCT), an integrative model for assessing client cognitive-emotional style and selecting interventions, has been presented as a meta-theory for increasing intentionality in mental health treatment planning. To examine the usefulness of DCT for training and practice, student and professional counselors (N = 203) completed the Preferred Helping Styles Inventory, the Theoretical Orientation Profile Scale-Revised, and the Intervention Strategies Questionnaire. Intervention styles were related to both cognitive styles and theoretical orientations; intervention style use was predicted by cognitive style and intervention style interests. Implications for mental health counselor training and practice are discussed.

609 high school students and 270 college students were tested with M. Kovack Child Depression Inventory. 20% of adolescents and 15% of college students demonstrated increased scores in CDI. Desintegration of families, high prevalence of alcoholism and extreme growth of social orphanhood are among the major factors of depressive and anxiety disorders in population. About 50% of observed social orphans were at high risk for depression. Stratification of Russian society is another macrosocial factor of emotional disorders. Two opposing tendencies might be observed. From one side, significant part of population is on the impoverishment and degradation. From another side, well-to-do families are growing in numbers with special quest for elitist educational institutions with perfectionistic standards. Success and achievement orientation along with intensive training loads also generate threat to emotional health of children. 60% of observed students of these elitist schools were at high risk for depression. Parents of students with increased scores in CDI exhibited higher indices of perfectionism compared with parents of emotionally healthy students. Significant correlations between parental perfectionism and depression/anxiety symptoms in offspring have been registered.

AbstractObjective:To examine factors potentially contributing to acutely exacerbated chronic tinnitus initiation using the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory. Methods:Sixty acutely exacerbated chronic tinnitus out-patients were divided into two groups depending on whether hearing loss was aggravated or stable during tinnitus exacerbation. Total Tinnitus Handicap Inventory scores and scores for the three subscales (assessing functional limitations, emotional attitudes and catastrophic thoughts) were analysed. Results:Total Tinnitus Handicap Inventory scores did not differ between groups. In patients with acutely exacerbated chronic tinnitus and aggravated hearing loss, functional subscale scores were significantly higher after acutely exacerbated chronic tinnitus than at baseline, but catastrophic and emotional subscale scores did not change. In patients with acutely exacerbated chronic tinnitus and stable hearing loss, emotional subscale scores were significantly higher after acutely exacerbated chronic tinnitus than at baseline, but catastrophic and functional subscale scores did not change. Conclusion:Elevated Tinnitus Handicap Inventory functional subscale scores might indicate further hearing loss, whereas elevated emotional subscale scores might be associated with negative life or work events.

Museums Victoria stores close to 80,000 herpetological specimens in its wet collection. A large proportion of these specimens were housed in Fowlers Vacola jars, which had degrading rubber seals on them, leading to ethanol loss in many of the jars and potential specimen degradation. Along with this, the collection was also in drastic need of taxonomic updating, new labelling and an inventory of the specimens. I developed a procedure for volunteers to work through to complete all of these steps in the one project. This included replacing jars with new 2 L screw-top jars with plastic seals, topping up ethanol and updating labels where required. Taxonomy was also revised, both on our electronic database and reflected in the physical storage of the specimens in the collection. There are many benefits to this project – staff and visitors can now locate the specimens more easily, taxonomy is more accurate, all specimens have been visually inspected, degradation of specimens has been minimised and we have a new baseline inventory of all specimens. This has already been extremely valuable during a recent large-scale audit of the collection. Our next step will be to barcode all of these specimens, so that effective location control will occur from this point forward.

Teachers increasingly face many challenges in a wide range of areas, mainly in those related to their students’ behavioural problems and psychological well-being. Evidence shows that teachers can effectively assist students at risk or with difficulties, when they are adequately guided and supported by well-trained school counsellors. Hence, the need for more holistic and systemic school-based interventions for children at risk and their families, as well as specialized assistance for teachers is advocated by many authors. Focusing on the role of teachers in promoting the social-emotional health of pupils at risk, the authors present the key components of an innovative counselling intervention within school context that focuses on enabling teachers being more resilient and more confident in order to better deal with cases of “difficult” students. The model integrates elements of systemic, psychodynamic and resilience based thinking with a strong emphasis on “inclusive education” issues. The authors describe the key theoretical background and the various aspects of this model, discussing the challenges of its implementation. They finally propose that in order to be effective, such models should emphasize the collaborative, dialectical, and systemic aspects of the counselling process with teachers. The final conclusion is that school counsellors have a critical role to play in supporting teachers helping their “difficult” pupils avoid school exclusion and develop further mental health problems.

This is an integrative review relating the effects of meditation in the brain and its possible use as preventive alternative medicine and an adjuvant in the psychiatric treatment. Studies have associated meditation and spirituality with increased life quality for being linked to emotional control and self-preservation behaviors, such as ethical practices, emotional regulation, attention improvement, stress and anxiety reduction and cognitive functions improvement in a general fashion, which is also evidenced by studies that analyzed morphological changes in correlated brain areas. This work proposes an integrative review in order to prove the hypothesis that meditation could be used as a practice in alternative and preventive medicine aiming to diminish the harmful effects of diseases and psychopathologies in general.

AbstractObjectivesWith people living longer, palliative care may be required for lengthier periods of time. This puts demands on healthcare organizations to provide optimal palliative care. Maintaining dignity is central for any person's health and quality of life, but especially for a person with palliative care needs. Dignity-conserving care needs to be evaluated to increase knowledge about outcomes and how to assess these. The purpose of this integrative review was to identify outcomes studied within dignity-conserving care and how these have been operationalized.MethodsAn integrative review was conducted in 26 quantitative or mixed-method studies and study protocols. Thematic synthesis with an abductive approach was used for analysis.ResultsSeven themes of studied outcomes were identified, as well as four cluster themes: themes related to Illness-Related Concerns, themes related to the Dignity-Conserving Repertoire, themes related to the Social Dignity Inventory, and themes regarding Overarching Dignity Issues. Most outcomes studied dealt with Illness-Related Concerns within the themes of “Performance, symptoms and emotional concerns” and “End-of-life and existential aspects”. Themes linked to the Social Dignity Inventory had the lowest number of outcomes studied. Outcomes regarding overarching dignity issues such as “Dignity-related distress” and “Quality of life” were common. However, the results lacked concrete communication outcomes.Significance of resultsThe results will underpin future research in which dignity-conserving care is implemented and evaluated, and contribute to the provision of evidence-based palliative care. A greater focus on outcomes within cluster themes related to the Dignity-Conserving Repertoire and the Social Dignity Inventory is needed, as is more focus on communication outcomes.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify associations between the Burnout domains and the characteristics of the work environment. Method: cross-sectional study with 745 nurses from 40 public health institutions in São Paulo. Nursing Work Index-Revised (NWI-R) and Maslach Burnout Inventory were used. Similar institutions according to NWI-R were grouped by clustering and the Anova and Bonferroni tests were used in the comparative analyzes. Results: there was significant and moderate correlation between emotional exhaustion and autonomy, control over the environment and organizational support; between reduced personal accomplishment, autonomy and organizational support; and between depersonalization and autonomy. The group that presented the worst conditions in the work environment differed on emotional exhaustion from the group with most favorable traits. Conclusion: emotional exhaustion was the trait of Burnout that was more consistently related to the group of institutions with more unfavorable working conditions regarding autonomy, organizational support and control over the environment.

The aim: To investigate the group psychological work influence on the children emotional intelligence development and the processes of psychological stability and cohesion in a sport team. Materials and methods: We used the comprehensive diagnosis of the child’s personality and status in the group (n=622). The main accent was made on the level of emotional intelligence (EQ) and sociometric status of the child. The main hypothesis: the higher the child`s EQ level, the higher its sociometric status. The standard PASW Statistics method was used to process the statistics. Results: Sociometric tests: 223 children had a low sociometric status (36%); 242 – satisfactory and within the norm limits (39%), 75 – above the average (12%), and only 81 had a high sociometric status (13%). The EQ level indicators (integrative level): 317 respondents had a low EQ level (51%); 218 – the average level (35%) and only 87 respondents had a high EI level (14%). Conclusions: The hypothesis is confirmed. After the implementation of the author’s program for adaptation and the child emotional intelligence development, we have results: Sociometric test: only 56 children have lower sociometric status (9%); 144 – satisfactory and average (23%); 223 – above average (36%) and 199 – high sociometric status (32%). EQ level (integrative level), we also have positive changes: only 111 respondents remained with a low level of emotional intelligence (18%); 386 developed the level of emotional intelligence to the average (62%) and 125 had a high level of emotional intelligence (20%).

ObjectivesTo examine associations between shift work characteristics and schedules on burnout in police and whether sleep duration and sleepiness were associated with burnout.MethodsPolice officers (n=3140) completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory (emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, personal accomplishment) and self-reported shift schedules (irregular, rotating, fixed), shift characteristics (night, duration, frequency, work hours), sleep duration and sleepiness.ResultsIrregular schedules, long shifts (≥11 hours), mandatory overtime, short sleep and sleepiness were associated with increased risk of overall burnout in police. Police working a greater frequency of long shifts were more likely to have emotional exhaustion (adjusted OR 1.91, 95% CI 1.35 to 2.72) than those not working long shifts. Night shifts were associated with depersonalisation (1.32, 1.05 to 1.66) compared with not working nights. Police working mandatory overtime had increased risk of emotional exhaustion (1.37, 1.14 to 1.65) than those who did not. Compared with fixed schedules, irregular schedules were associated with emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation (1.91, 1.44 to 2.54 and 1.39, 1.02 to 1.89, respectively). Police sleeping <6 hours were more likely to have emotional exhaustion (1.60, 1.33 to 1.93) than those sleeping longer, and excessive sleepiness was associated with emotional exhaustion (1.81, 1.50 to 2.18).ConclusionsIrregular schedules and increased night shifts, sleep disturbances and work hours were related to higher burnout risk in police. Future research should evaluate work schedules in law enforcement that optimise shift duration and frequency, and increase consistency in scheduling and control over work hours to limit burnout in police.

One of the trends in the current research in psychology is to explore how personal variables can determine a person’s communication style. Our objective was to find out the moderating effect of mood in the relationship between the five big personality traits and an aggressive verbal communication style risk factor from work activities in a sample of nursing professionals. This study is a quantitative descriptive design. The final sample was 596 nurses with an age range of 22 to 56 years. An ad hoc questionnaire was used to collect sociodemographic data, and the 10-item Big Five Inventory, the Communication Styles Inventory, and the Brief Emotional Intelligence Inventory for Senior Citizens were used. This study shows that, for nursing professionals, the agreeableness, conscientiousness, and neuroticism traits have a close relationship with aggressive verbal communication. Even though mood moderates this relationship, it is only significant for those individuals with high scores in neuroticism. Since personality dimensions are considered to be relatively stable over time and consistent from one situation to another, organizations should offer workshops and other types of practical activities to train workers in communication skills and emotional intelligence, in order to promote the health of employees and patients, and avoid risk factors from work activities in nursing.

ABSTRACT Background The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) is considered the “gold standard” for measuring burnout, encompassing 3 scales: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment. Other well-being instruments have shown utility in various settings, and correlations between MBI and these instruments could provide evidence of relationships among key variables to guide well-being efforts. Objective We explored correlations between the MBI and other well-being instruments. Methods We fielded a multicenter survey of 9 emergency medicine (EM) residencies, administering the MBI and 4 published well-being instruments: a quality-of-life assessment, a work-life balance rating, an appraisal of career satisfaction, and the Primary Care Evaluation of Mental Disorders Patient Health Questionnaire 2 question screen. Consistent with the Maslach definition, burnout was defined by high emotional exhaustion (> 26) and high depersonalization (> 12). Results Of 334 residents, 261 (78%) responded. Residents who reported lower quality of life had higher emotional exhaustion (ρ = –0.437, P < .0001), higher depersonalization (ρ = –0.18, P < .005), and lower personal accomplishment (ρ = 0.347, P < .001). Residents who reported a negative work-life balance had emotional exhaustion (P < .001) and depersonalization (P < .009). Positive career satisfaction was associated with lower emotional exhaustion (P < .0001), lower depersonalization (P < .005), and higher personal accomplishment (P < .05). A positive depression screen was associated with higher emotional exhaustion, higher depersonalization, and lower personal achievement (all P < .0001). Conclusions Our multicenter study of EM residents demonstrated that assessments using the MBI correlate with other well-being instruments.

Abstract Introduction. Burnout syndrome among nurses is very common. It develops very dynamically, it is mainly related to the reaction to long-term emotional stress, as well as to the professional work they perform. Aim. The aim of the study is to assess the degree of occupational burnout in the professional group of nurses. Material and methods. The research was conducted among 123 professionally active nurses employed in an outpatient clinic and a hospital in Wrocław. The work uses standardized research tools: Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and Work Satisfaction Scale (WSS). Results. Nurses in old age, with longer work experience, are at a higher risk of burnout. Conclusion. Burnout as measured by the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and Work Satisfaction Scale (WSS) in nurses is associated with higher age and seniority. In addition, a negative correlation was noted between Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and Work Satisfaction Scale (WSS).

Reflecting on human emotiveness in literary work, this paper examines some questions motivated by the text “Lágrimas de Heraclito”, written by the Portuguese Padre António Vieira. This literary text deals with laughter and weeping, expressing the existential paradox of emotions. The new paradigms of knowledge, as described by the Indian researcher Amit Goswami, provide us with the integrative approach that conceives consciousness as being the unity of life, gathering together thoughts and feelings. In approaching the emotiveness phenomena, the idea of consciousness primacy helps us to elucidate the moral and ethical questions implied in poetic creativeness. Considering that the integrative paradigm amasses multiple spaces for humanities studies, this reading is an attempt to answer how the intuitive and symbolic expressions of emotional creativity appear in literary artwork.

Teaching profession is one with highest demand regarding empowerment and emotional labour. Emotional labor is the management of emotions for performance excellence (Hochschild ,1983). This study has examined the relationship among the emotional labour, teacher’s overall empowerment and their work engagement. The study also aimed to determine either the job experience moderates the empowerment and work engagement relation. A sample of 223 university teachers of 14 different universities was selected. 145 respondent’s data was found complete to be used for analysis. Valid scales like Utrecht Work Engagement was used to measure overall work engagement, Cuckar & Mann’s Emotional Requirement Inventory scale was used for measuring emotional labor and Short & Rinehart scale was used to measure the teacher empowerment. SPSS statistical software was used for data analysis. Different SPSS tools were used to measure the strength and significance of studied relationships. Moreover, a model was built to measure the overall work engagement of university teachers. A significant relation was found b/w empowerment, work engagement and emotional labor whereas the role of job experience was found to be insignificant. This study further suggested future research direction.

The study investigates the relationship between perceived emotional intelligence, burnout, work engagement, and job satisfaction in 238 Italian school teachers. The mean age was 50 years, ranged from 26 to 66 (SD = 9.16). The research protocol included a demographics data sheet, the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS; Wong & Law, 2002), the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI; Kristensen, Borritz, Villadsen, & Christensen, 2005), the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES; Schaufeli, Bakker, & Salanova, 2006), and the Organizational Satisfaction Scale (QSO; Cortese, 2001). Several international studies already demonstrated an association among these variables. Our results showed that perceived emotional intelligence positively correlates with work engagement and job satisfaction, and negatively correlates with burnout. Hierarchical regression analyses also point out that, among all the perceived emotional intelligence subdimensions, the use of emotion is the best predictor of the study variables, even when controlling for gender differences. These results suggest that emotional intelligence may have a protective role in preventing negative working experiences of teachers.

Purpose of the study: To evaluate socio-psychological characteristics of women after early reproductive loss and to suggest some forms of psychological support for this category of patients. Material and methods. The sample is represented by 64 women of reproductive age with a primary episode of pregnancy loss. A medical and sociological interview and psychological questionnaire were conducted using the Spielberg-Khanin scale (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, STAI). Results. The material of the pilot sample demonstrates the significance of the situationally conditioned psychoemotional state (ideas of self-blame and situationally conditioned anxiety) of women with early reproductive loss and shows the directions and forms of possible outpatient psychological intervention after experiencing perinatal loss (respiratory gymnastics, auto-training, neuromuscular relaxation, music and art therapy). Conclusions. In order to maintain mental well-being in women after early reproductive loss, a comprehensive integrative approach is needed, including the provision of medical care by an obstetrician-gynecologist and psychological support by a psychologist at an antenatal clinic.

Job burnout among public rehabilitation counselors was explored using the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), which measures three components of burnout: (a) emotional exhaustion, (b) depersonalization, and (c) personal accomplishment. Using multiple regression analyses, perceived administrative support was predictive (p < .001) of both emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Having clearly defined work procedures was predictive (p < .05) of personal accomplishment. Using a 2 (gender) X 2 (race) X 2 (certification status) X 2 (agency location) X 2 (work setting) X 3 (type of degree) X 2 (partnered status) MANOVA. White counselors were found to have higher levels (p < .05) of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization than African American counselors.

To provide a more integrated framework for the study of work engagement, the literature on this concept was reviewed in order to develop a clearer definition of this construct that (instead of being based on the separate construct of burnout) is based on the original theory of work engagement, which allowed a new, more precise measure of work engagement to be created. The new work engagement items were tested to assess their psychometrics. Their integrity was tested via exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, which retained 18 items for a three-component model having satisfactory fit indexes with three 6-item subscales named Cognitive, Emotional, and Physical Work Engagement. The reliabilities and validities of the new scales were also empirically tested, with reliabilities ranging from .78 to .91; and correlation tests yielded statistical support for the convergent, divergent, and concurrent validities of the new measure. The scales were also tested for application to organizations, with Self-Efficacy as a positive predictor that explained 10% to 16% of the variance for all three work engagement measures. Also, the three work engagement scales were all negative predictors of, and, together, explained 12% of the variance for Turnover Intention. Moreover, work engagement and burnout were empirically shown to be independent constructs.

This study examined the relationship among dimensions of self-reported Emotional Intelligence, Engagement and Burnout, using the Trait Meta-Mood Scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale in a sample of Spanish professionals who work at institutions for people with intellectual disabilities. The results showed that Emotional Clarity was significantly associated with Personal Accomplishment ( r = .25) and Dedication ( r = .25). Further, Repair to moods was significantly correlated with all Engagement dimensions (.20 Vigor, .30 Dedication, .36 Absorption) and with Personal Accomplishment (.31). These findings extend previous research with college students in which Clarity and Repair to moods subscales were relevant predictors of well-being indexes and interpersonal functioning and suggest that the Trait Meta-Mood Scale subscales also show significant relationships with emotional functioning and work-related variables in a professional sample.

Our analysis identified five distinct research clusters: (a) collective predictors and effects, (b) services encounters, (c) emotional regulation and management, (d) customer orientation, and (e) service stress and strain. In this article, we describe the nature of current research within each of these clusters and identify future directions within and across different clusters for scholarly work. Our review highlights the conceptual and methodological richness within the clusters and calls out for interdisciplinary scholarship to build a diverse, yet unified field of service work research.

This work presents a theoretical and integrative review about parental self-regulation and emotional regulation processes, and its connections with parental coping and temperament. Parents' adaptation requires the ability to regulate their own behavior in reaction to their perception and interpretation of the child's behavior. These self-regulation processes are often intertwined with intense emotions that need to be regulated. Parenting attitudes and behaviors cannot be fully understood without considering the parents' emotional dysregulation and their emotional regulation strategies. However, only few studies focus the effects of parents' emotional regulation strategies on the parenting behavior. Experiential avoidance and overprotection are discussed as extreme cases of parental emotional regulation strategies that may have particularly detrimental effects in childrearing. The authors propose that, although the main parenting interventions already use a self-regulation approach, specific training in adaptive emotional regulation strategies should be included in these programs.

The job of being an English language instructor is both demanding and challenging. Recently many researchers have been paying attention to determine teachers’ attitudes, burnouts, and self-efficacy towards the subject and to find a relationship between those psychological concepts and certain variables. However, there is not much research done in the field of English language teaching in North Cyprus, Turkey, and in the Middle East regarding EFL teacher burnout and self-efficacy. This study aimed to investigate the perceived levels of burnout among EFL Instructors at the English Preparatory Schools in Girne American University, Near East University and the European University of Lefke in North Cyprus using the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Education Survey developed by Friedman. The study, in which 51 EFL instructors participated found that instructors experienced low levels of emotional exhaustion, low levels of depersonalization in relationships with students, colleagues, and others, and a high level of personal accomplishment in their work. An EFL instructor’s age, marital status, work experience, weekly teaching hours, job status, native or non-native status do not seem to influence instructors’ responses on each of the sub-scales of the Maslach Burnout Inventory. However, variables gender and the university they work to influence their responses related to emotional exhaustion, but they do not influence their responses related to depersonalization and personal accomplishment scores on the Maslach Burnout Inventory.

Abstract Emotion regulation is a multiprocessual phenomenon capable of maintaining, intensifying or diminishing the emotional experience. This work investigated the psychometric properties of the Emotion Regulation Inventory for Learning Situations, using the Item Response Theory (IRT). Participants included 365 students from the 5th to the 9th grades of elementary school, with a mean age of 11.9 years (SD = 1.72), 57.5% female and 42.5% male. The results indicated problems in the instrument, such as small variability of the items and underutilized categories of response, and ways for the revision of the instrument, such as construction of more difficult items that require internal strategies, focused on the learning experience.

This study examined early voluntary turnover and job performance in a group of 78 private contract security officers. A preemployment inventory was administered but not used as part of the selection process. Subsequent measures of early voluntary turnover and job performance were analyzed with respect to the inventory scores. Analyses indicated a relationship between the number of days an individual remained on the job before quitting and scores on an inventory scale designed to assess the likelihood of early voluntary turnover. For a subset of this group, a suggestive relationship was also observed between supervisors' ratings of job performance and scores on inventory scales designed to measure emotional maturity and work performance free from disruptive use of substances and alcohol.

Burnout is most commonly defined as a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion caused by long-term involvement in emotionally demanding situations. The Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI) is a recently-developed public domain questionnaire designed to measure burnout in three domains: personal, work-related, and client-related. The present study examined the psychometric properties of the Work Burnout (WB) scale from the CBI and its relationships with various relevant constructs. 352 Serbian employees from two different samples completed several instruments assessing work burnout, distress, (ir)rational beliefs, turnover intentions, and job satisfaction. Results showed that the WB had a two-dimensional factorial structure (work exhaustion and work frustration), with acceptable fit indices using CFA, and excellent internal consistency. Moreover, the scale (and both dimensions) meaningfully correlated with distress, irrational beliefs, job satisfaction, and intentions to leave the organization. These findings indicate that the WB is a valid instrument to use with employees across different occupations and could be particularly useful when researchers want to quickly and efficiently assess emotional burnout. Also, the scale may be used as a short two-dimensional scale for measuring two distinct aspects of burnout, work frustration and work exhaustion. Some limitations of the study and the instrument itself have also been highlighted and discussed.

Small-scale industries play an important role in the economic development of the country. In India more than 50 per cent of workforces are self-employed ( Thavaraj, 2012 , International Journal of Business Management & Research, 2, 53–57). In spite of its importance, the small-scale sector is beset with the problem of sickness. A personality inventory is an evaluation tool that helps people to learn about their personality types. Personality inventory can teach what occupation and work environment are a good fit for an individual and guides to choose the right career. The purpose of the research work is to identify the dimensional personality inventory (DPI) variables that discriminates the owners of small-scale industries of ordinary (profit-making) units and highly sick units. The sample size of the study is 316 small-scale industrial units. The stratified proportionate random sampling technique was adopted to distribute the sample in the population. The researchers have used structured interview schedule to collect data from the respondents on their DPIs. It is revealed through this study that there are significant differences that are identified in the case of activeness, assertiveness, emotional stability, responsibility, decisiveness and leadership. The higher discriminant coefficients are identified in the case of emotional stability and leadership.

Background and aims: Nurses are at risk for job burnout (JB) due to the characteristics of their work. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of emotional work (EW) on JB with the mediating role of work-family conflict (WFC) among nursing staff. Methods: This was an applied survey. Study population consisted of all 195 nursing staff of Imam Khomeini hospital, Bandar Turkman, Iran. Participants were 129 nursing staff selected through stratified random sampling. The Haag Emotional Work Scale, the Maslach Burnout Inventory, and the Mousavi and Alvani’s WFC questionnaire were used for data collection. Data were analyzed through the structural equation modeling and confirmatory factor analysis performed via the SPSS (v. 22.0) and the AMOS (v. 22.0) software. Results: EW had significant effects on JB (path coefficient: 0.57) and WFC (path coefficient: 0.27). WFC also had significant effects on JB (path coefficient: 0.74) and had significant mediating effects on the EW-JB relationship. Conclusion: Strategies to boost nursing staff’s morale can reduce their stress, JB, and WFC.

Whereas both Blatt (1974) and Beck (1983) postulated the existence of two basic cognitive-personality vulnerabilities to depression—sociotropic/anaclitic and autonomous/introjective—recent research and theorizing suggest that self-criticism is a third dimension of vulnerability. To examine the supposition that sociotropy, autonomy, and self-criticism constitute three distinct dimensions of vulnerability, we administered the Personal Style Inventory (PSI; Robins et al., 1994), six items from the Depressive Experiences Questionnaire (DEQ; Blatt, D’Afflitti, & Quinlan, 1976) and the Brief Symptoms Inventory (BSI; Derogatis & Melisaratos, 1983) to 203 Israeli young adults. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) provided support for the hypothesized three-factor solution. Regression analyses indicated that each of these dimensions was associated with psychopathology. Findings encourage further integrative work in the field of personality vulnerability.

Though traditionally the intelligence quotient (IQ) had been used as a predictor of academic success, recent studies have highlighted that students with higher emotional quotient (EQ) are more successful both academically and professionally. Given that the contemporary work systems involve huge emotional labour and customer intimacy, employers have now started preferring students with high emotional quotient; as the job market is already full of academically competent candidates. The current study is divided into two parts, the first part reviews and analyzes important researchers; in order to identify an integrative framework of the most important emotional intelligence competencies among students. The second part attests this framework with the help of statistical analysis of a sample of college students. The results of the study provide a list of factors that can be adopted as a part of the academic curriculum for the development of emotional intelligence among MBA students.

The purpose of this work is to verify the factorial structure and analyze the reliability of the Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-i): Youth Version (YV) (S) by evaluating emotional intelligence in a more extensive sample of Spanish adolescents than has been used to date, since this inventory has been employed in various studies but with a very limited number of participants. For this study, 5292 adolescents from all over Spain participated—male (51.2%) and female (48.8%) secondary education students between 11 and 19 years old, with an average age of 14.33. Data analysis included a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), reliability analysis, and model invariance as a function of gender. The CFA confirms that the data empirically support the theoretical model and that the goodness-of-fit indexes are adequate. The reliability analysis of the inventory presents a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the total scale of 0.76, and reliability indexes for each of the factors range between 0.63 and 0.80. The findings show that the model indicates invariance related to gender.

Introduction: Despite the amount of research on mental workload and work family conflict, there are persist questions about their relation with Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalization and lack of Personal Accomplishment. This paper attempts to show that the relationship between mental workload and work family conflict on burnout for female lecturers who work from home during the pandemic Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted on 50 female lecturers who worked at home. The measurement of mental workload was used by Nasa TLX and work family conflict was developed by the Malaysian version of Kelloway. Maslah Burnout Inventory is used to determine the burnout level. Data analysis used logistic regression to determine the significance between mental workload and work family conflict on the burnout dimension (Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalization, lack of Personal Accomplishment). Results: This study found that age, children, length of working, structural position did not significantly affect burnout. There was negative correlation with burnout leveld (p> 0.005). Work family conflict showed a significant in dimension of burnout EE (p=0.028), DP (p=0.011), PA (0.029) Conclusion: This study has found that generally work family conflict affected burnout in female lecture

Abstract. Whereas the structure of individual differences in personal attributes is well understood in adults, much less work has been done in children and adolescents. On the assessment side, numerous instruments are in use for children but they measure discordant attributes, ranging from one single factor (self-esteem; grit) to three factors (social, emotional, and academic self-efficacy) to five factors (strength and difficulties; Big Five traits). To construct a comprehensive measure for large-scale studies in Brazilian schools, we selected the eight most promising instruments and studied their structure at the item level (Study 1; N = 3,023). The resulting six-factor structure captures the major domains of child differences represented in these instruments and resembles the well-known Big Five personality dimensions plus a negative self-evaluation factor. In a large representative sample in Rio de Janeiro State (Study 2; N = 24,605), we tested a self-report inventory (SENNA1.0) assessing these six dimensions of socio-emotional skills with less than 100 items and found a robust and replicable structure and measurement invariance across grades, demonstrating feasibility for large-scale assessments across diverse student groups in Brazil. Discussion focuses on the contribution to socio-emotional research in education and its measurement as well as on limitations and suggestions for future research.

The existing literature has established the effects of emotional labor on teachers’ wellbeing indicators and teaching efficacy, leaving its impact on students’ outcomes unexplored. Following Grandey’s integrative model of emotional labor and social-emotional learning (SEL) framework, this study explored the relationship between teachers’ emotional labor, teaching efficacy, and young children’s social-emotional development and learning in early childhood settings. Thirteen preschools were recruited through stratified random sampling in Shenzhen, China. Altogether, 49 classrooms were involved, and three teachers and six children were sampled from each classroom, resulting in a sample of 124 teachers and 241 children. Teachers’ emotional labor strategy, sense of efficacy, and children’s social-emotional development and learning were surveyed. Structural equation modeling has confirmed that teachers’ natural and surface acting predicted their teaching efficacy. Bootstrapped mediation analysis revealed that the mediation paths from teachers’ emotional labor to children’s learning approaches and social-emotional development varied significantly for teachers in different positions. The study implies that different guidelines and training are needed for teachers in different positions to help them cope with varied emotional labor at work and promote their teaching efficacy for young children’s better development.

ObjectivesThe objectives of this study are twofold. First, to examine the direct effect of psychosocial work characteristics (as measured by job autonomy and work-related pressure) in relation to self-reported psychological morbidity symptoms and early retirement intentions among a sample of hospital consultants in the National Health Service (NHS). Second, to investigate burnout as mediating variable (ie, indirect effect) of these postulated associations.DesignA cross-sectional observational study.Participants593 NHS consultants (male=63.1%) from hospitals in England, Scotland and Wales.MeasuresSelf-reported online questionnaires on work-related pressure and job autonomy (Job Demands-Resources Questionnaire); emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation (Maslach Burnout Inventory); depressive and anxiety symptoms (State Trait Personality Inventory) and a single-item on early retirement intention.ResultsThis study observed high prevalence rates across all adverse health measures: emotional exhaustion (38.7%), depersonalisation (20.7%), anxiety symptoms (43.1%) and depressive symptoms (36.1%). Multiple linear regressions examined the postulated direct and indirect effects. Job autonomy had significant negative direct effects on the frequency of NHS consultants’ anxiety and depressive symptoms, and their intention to retire early. Both emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation mediated the relationships that work-related pressure (full mediation) and job autonomy (partial mediation) had with self-reported symptoms of psychological morbidities. Only emotional exhaustion mediated the relationships where early retirement intention was the outcome. In terms of sociodemographic factors, age and years’ experience predicted both burnout dimensions and psychological morbidity.ConclusionsThis is the first study to observe job autonomy to be associated with the number of self-reported psychological morbidity symptoms and early retirement intentions in a sample of NHS consultants. Burnout dimensions mediated these relationships, indicating that interventions need to focus on enhancing working conditions and addressing burnout among NHS consultants before more severe symptoms of psychological morbidity are reported. This study has implications for NHS policy makers and senior leadership.

(1) Background: There are few studies of burnout syndrome (BS) in occupational therapists (OTs), and protective factors for BS have received little attention in the scientific literature. This research aimed to estimate the prevalence of BS, characterize the associated psychosocial factors, and analyze their relationship with health in a sample of Spanish OTs. (2) Methods: A total of 127 therapists completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and other standardized questionnaires measuring: personality traits (reduced five-factor personality inventory, NEO-FFI), coping styles (Coping Strategies Questionnaire, CAE), work-family conflict (Survey Work-Home Interaction Nijmegen, SWING), professional factors (role ambiguity/clarity and modified role conflict questionnaires), and the perception of health (Goldberg’s General Health Questionnaire). Several correlational and multiple regression analyses were performed to study the psychosocial predictors of burnout and its relationship with health perceptions. (3) Results: 15.8% of the professionals presented BS, with emotional exhaustion (EE; 38.7%) being the most compromised dimension. Neuroticism, role conflict, negative work-family interaction, and open emotional expression (OE) significantly predicted a higher EE. The main predictors of cynicism (CY) were being male, role conflict, and OE. Role conflict, role ambiguity and social support-seeking were significant predictors of reduced professional efficiency (PE). (4) Conclusions: A high percentage of OTs with BS suggests the need for increased awareness of the importance of this syndrome in the health community. It would be critical to consider the protective factors (i.e., emotional management, social support) that help promote OTs’ well-being and health.
