This article focuses on defining the integrated platform for managing information in smart cities. We look into the smart city platforms that are increasingly used in today’s cities all around the world. Smart city platforms can be deployed on private, public or hybrid clouds, remote servers or onsite. By definition, a smart city platform integrates many different functional areas of the smart city in a single environment. The Smart city platform offers integrated functionality to coordinate intelligent city data, applications, solutions and services at one or more operational levels between multiple stakeholders with integrated functionality. By monitoring and analysing the use of urban assets, the government can distribute them to improve operational efficiency. The platform provides middleware and operational functionality across multiple software and hardware, integrates multiple communication protocols, and provides latent and free solutions for smart cities. Managing the huge amounts of data generated by IoT-based sensors and systems is a main challenge facing end users and providers. We show that smart city platforms serve to standardize data and information across many silo systems. It is demonstrated that they provide a common mechanism for visualizing and managing data to optimize the entire urban operation.

Abstract Motivation Accurate estimation of transcript isoform abundance is critical for downstream transcriptome analyses and can lead to precise molecular mechanisms for understanding complex human diseases, like cancer. Simplex mRNA Sequencing (RNA-Seq) based isoform quantification approaches are facing the challenges of inherent sampling bias and unidentifiable read origins. A large-scale experiment shows that the consistency between RNA-Seq and other mRNA quantification platforms is relatively low at the isoform level compared to the gene level. In this project, we developed a platform-integrated model for transcript quantification (IntMTQ) to improve the performance of RNA-Seq on isoform expression estimation. IntMTQ, which benefits from the mRNA expressions reported by the other platforms, provides more precise RNA-Seq-based isoform quantification and leads to more accurate molecular signatures for disease phenotype prediction. Results In the experiments to assess the quality of isoform expression estimated by IntMTQ, we designed three tasks for clustering and classification of 46 cancer cell lines with four different mRNA quantification platforms, including newly developed NanoString’s nCounter technology. The results demonstrate that the isoform expressions learned by IntMTQ consistently provide more and better molecular features for downstream analyses compared with five baseline algorithms which consider RNA-Seq data only. An independent RT-qPCR experiment on seven genes in twelve cancer cell lines showed that the IntMTQ improved overall transcript quantification. The platform-integrated algorithms could be applied to large-scale cancer studies, such as The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), with both RNA-Seq and array-based platforms available. The Internet-based platform in the construction industry is a carrier for integrated construction information, which positively contributes to the development of smart construction sites (SCS). However, the lack of relevant research results in the ambiguous definition of the construction industry Internet platform. Meanwhile, the current development path of these platforms is also confusing. For this reason, this research first concludes on the main features of Internet-based platforms in the construction industry and puts forward a clear definition. Secondly, a large quantity of literature is overviewed to identify branches of Internet-based platforms as comprehensively as possible. Then, 26 platforms are sorted and classified according to different construction phases. Based on the analytic hierarchy process, an AHP–TOPSIS model, a decision-making method frequently used in the engineering industry, is established with dimensions of technology, demand, policy, and standards. Eventually, the priority of the development of the Internet platform of each segment is sorted, thereby forming the three-stage development path of the construction industry Internet platform, namely Foundation Construction Stage (Platform 1.0), Function Developing Stage (Platform 2.0), Platform Integration Stage (Platform 3.0), and analyzing the characteristics of each development stage. This research opened a clear path for developing Internet-based platforms and providing a basis for formulating development policies for these platforms in the construction industry. With the limitation of an incomprehensive summary of evaluation criteria and platform branches, a better-designed evaluation with more experts in various positions should be conducted in future further research.

Introduction. The “Smart Agroˮ committee of Research and Education Center “Engineering of the Future” has identified a number of tasks relevant for improving the efficiency of precision, soil-protecting and conservation agriculture. One of these tasks is the development of a digital multi-agent system, which provides a number of services for agricultural enterprises, developers and manufacturers of agricultural machinery. The purpose of the present study is to model an autonomous mobile robotic platform, including the development of software and hardware for trajectory control. Materials and Methods. To solve the problem, there are used modern CAx systems and their applications, the methods of 3D and full-body modeling, and the method of numerical solution of problems in solid mechanics. To expand and improve the standard functionality of CAx-systems (SolidWorks) in the software implementation of trajectory control algorithms, the methods and technologies of programming using API SolidWorks, VisualStudio C++ (MFC, ATL, COM) are used, and to build physical full-scale models ‒ Arduino and fischertechnik platforms. Results. The result of the study is a software and hardware module of trajectory control for an integrated (physical and virtual) model of a mobile robotic platform, which can be provided to the consumer as a service for technology autonomation. For the developed integrated model, control algorithms for various types of trajectories were tested. Discussion and Conclusion. The developed integrated software and hardware model of trajectory control can be used by developers and manufacturers of agricultural machinery, and directly by agro-enterprises for implementing typical technological processes. A feature of the implementation is an open hardware and software interface that provides the integration of mobile robotic platforms based on a digital multi-agent system.

Статья посвящена анализу экономической природы цифровых платформ. В ней сопоставляются два механизма перераспределения экономических ресурсов – классический рыночный и властный внутрифирменный. Экономическая природа цифровых платформ связывается с развитием квазиинтегрированных структур. Обосновывается положение о том, что платформа не является в полном смысле традиционной фирмой, а представляет собой существенный компонент квазиинтегрированной экономической структуры, которая выносит внутрифирменные властные отношения за свои пределы и способна трансформировать рыночную организацию производства по ряду направлений. Платформа по сути своей организации опирается на формы работы на заказ потребителя, получившие развитие в постиндустриальной или информационной экономике. Она способна формировать спрос в виде поступления потока заказов от непосредственного потребителя. Цифровые платформы изменяют экономический статус фирм, действующих внутри неё, существенно ограничивая их обособленность. Это приводит к доминированию платформы как на отраслевом рынке, так и по отношению к фирмам, которые взаимодействуют на её основе. This article is devoted to the economic nature of digital platforms. There is a comparison of two redeployment mechanisms of economic resources: classical mar-ket-based mechanism and commanding intra-firm. The economic nature of digital platforms is connected with quasi integrated structure development. The article provides a statement that a platform is not a traditional firm(in its full sense) that it is just an essential component of quasi integrated economical structure that takes its intra-firm commanding relations outside and is able to transform market-based organization in a number of areas. Fundamentally, a platform is based on customer-related forms of work that was developed in the post-industrial or information economy. It is able to build a demand as a business stream directly from consumers. Digital platforms change economic status of companies that operate inside of it, significantly limiting their independence. In some cases it leads to the platform dominance on the sectoral market as well as its dominance according to the firms that interact on its basis.

Providers of product-service solutions find it challenging to simultaneously manage an increasing need for customised offerings along with internal demands for efficiency. To manage this balance, this paper explores the utilisation of platform strategies in the development of integrated product-service solutions. While platform strategies have been employed for many years in the development of physical products, this paper focuses on platform strategies in the development of solutions that combine both products and services. Based on a case study, we identify different assets that can be shared by these integrated product-service solutions and provide rationales for using platform strategies for solutions. We emphasise the potential of applying platform strategies while acknowledging the need for a holistic perspective on what assets to share among solutions. In particular, we draw attention to knowledge platforms as a basis for development of product-service solutions. The potential from using technology and usage knowledge platforms is highlighted in particular.

Big data and artificial intelligence are currently two of the most important and trending pieces for innovation and predictive analytics in healthcare, leading the digital healthcare transformation. Keralty organization is already working on developing an intelligent big data analytic platform based on machine learning and data integration principles. We discuss how this platform is the new pillar for the organization to improve population health management, value-based care, and new upcoming challenges in healthcare. The benefits of using this new data platform for community and population health include better healthcare outcomes, improvement of clinical operations, reducing costs of care, and generation of accurate medical information. Several machine learning algorithms implemented by the authors can use the large standardized datasets integrated into the platform to improve the effectiveness of public health interventions, improving diagnosis, and clinical decision support. The data integrated into the platform come from Electronic Health Records (EHR), Hospital Information Systems (HIS), Radiology Information Systems (RIS), and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), as well as data generated by public health platforms, mobile data, social media, and clinical web portals. This massive volume of data is integrated using big data techniques for storage, retrieval, processing, and transformation. This paper presents the design of a digital health platform in a healthcare organization in Colombia to integrate operational, clinical, and business data repositories with advanced analytics to improve the decision-making process for population health management.

In research concerning active debris removal, scholars have proposed dozens of schemes for removing debris. However, every scheme has both advantages and disadvantages, and no scheme possesses an overwhelming advantage. This paper proposes an integrated platform scheme which integrates multiple capture and deorbit technologies, such as a tethered net, harpoon, and robotic arm, to improve the success rate in terms of the active removal of debris of different shapes and different sizes. The design of the mechanisms of the integrated platform is presented in detail.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) objects represent buildingproducts in design, simulation, and procurement processes. This paper explores how BIM objects could be created and exchanged to enable the diffusion of innovative products with enhanced sustainability performance. Two BIM library platforms were examined by taking a new approach that integrates the concepts of sustainable value, diffusion of innovations, information, software usability, and platform ecosystems. The findings show that the diffusion of sustainable products can be inhibited due to problems with the mechanisms for creating and exchanging BIM objects, quality of BIM objects, the usability of BIM library platforms, and participation on the platforms. This study deepens understanding of the problems by focusing on ventilation products in Sweden. Identified shortcomings in the current practices of BIM platform owners and participants would be reduced by effective platform strategies, certification schemes for BIM objects, and BIM object creation processes integrated with product lifecycle management.

Massive open online course (MOOC) is an innovative educational model that has attracted widespread attention in recent years. Despite a growing number of registered users, many have given up continuously using MOOC platforms after the first-time user experience; thus, a high dropout rate has severely hindered the sustainable development of MOOC platforms. To address the problem, this study started with the quality factors of MOOC platforms and the confirmation of user expectations by integrating the D&M ISS model and the expectation confirmation model into one, with the goal of identifying the factors that affect users’ continuance intention to use MOOC platforms. In this study, online questionnaires were distributed to Chinese users with experience in using MOOC platforms, and a total of 550 valid samples were recovered. In addition, the theoretical model was tested using structural equation modeling (SEM). The research results showed that there are three critical antecedents affecting the confirmation of user expectations for a MOOC platform, including information quality, system quality, and service quality, of which service quality has the greatest impact on users’ expectation confirmation. If user expectations for an MOOC platform are positively confirmed, the perceived usefulness of the platform as well as the satisfaction with it will effectively be improved. Moreover, perceived usefulness has been proven to be a critical factor affecting users’ continuance intention to use MOOC platforms, which is followed by user satisfaction. Compared to the original ECM, the integrated research model has delivered significantly improved explanatory power for users’ continuance intention. Hence, this study makes up for the insufficiency of ECM in explaining the factors affecting users’ expectation confirmation and provides theoretical support for MOOC platform developers.

AbstractSilicon photonics has been established as a mature and promising technology for optoelectronic integrated circuits, mostly based on the silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguide platform. However, not all optical functionalities can be satisfactorily achieved merely based on silicon, in general, and on the SOI platform, in particular. Long-known shortcomings of silicon-based integrated photonics are optical absorption (in the telecommunication wavelengths) and feasibility of electrically-injected lasers (at least at room temperature). More recently, high two-photon and free-carrier absorptions required at high optical intensities for third-order optical nonlinear effects, inherent lack of second-order optical nonlinearity, low extinction ratio of modulators based on the free-carrier plasma effect, and the loss of the buried oxide layer of the SOI waveguides at mid-infrared wavelengths have been recognized as other shortcomings. Accordingly, several novel waveguide platforms have been developing to address these shortcomings of the SOI platform. Most of these emerging platforms are based on heterogeneous integration of other material systems on silicon substrates, and in some cases silicon is integrated on other substrates. Germanium and its binary alloys with silicon, III–V compound semiconductors, silicon nitride, tantalum pentoxide and other high-index dielectric or glass materials, as well as lithium niobate are some of the materials heterogeneously integrated on silicon substrates. The materials are typically integrated by a variety of epitaxial growth, bonding, ion implantation and slicing, etch back, spin-on-glass or other techniques. These wide range of efforts are reviewed here holistically to stress that there is no pure silicon or even group IV photonics per se. Rather, the future of the field of integrated photonics appears to be one of heterogenization, where a variety of different materials and waveguide platforms will be used for different purposes with the common feature of integrating them on a single substrate, most notably silicon.

Abstract The ability to study cellular heterogeneity at single cell resolution is making single-cell sequencing increasingly popular. However, there is no publicly available resource that offers an integrated cell atlas with harmonized metadata that users can integrate new data with. Here, we present DISCO (https://www.immunesinglecell.org/), a database of Deeply Integrated Single-Cell Omics data. The current release of DISCO integrates more than 18 million cells from 4593 samples, covering 107 tissues/cell lines/organoids, 158 diseases, and 20 platforms. We standardized the associated metadata with a controlled vocabulary and ontology system. To allow large scale integration of single-cell data, we developed FastIntegration, a fast and high-capacity version of Seurat Integration. We also developed CELLiD, an atlas guided automatic cell type identification tool. Employing these two tools on the assembled data, we constructed one global atlas and 27 sub-atlases for different tissues, diseases, and cell types. DISCO provides three online tools, namely Online FastIntegration, Online CELLiD, and CellMapper, for users to integrate, annotate, and project uploaded single-cell RNA-seq data onto a selected atlas. Collectively, DISCO is a versatile platform for users to explore published single-cell data and efficiently perform integrated analysis with their own data.

The aim of this paper is to find and compare existing solutions of complex event processing platforms (CEP). CEP platforms generally serve for processing and/or predicting of high frequency data. We intend to use CEP platform for processing of complex time series and integrate a solution for newly proposed method of decision making. The decision making process will be described by formal grammar. As there are lots of CEP solutions we will take the following characteristics under consideration - the processing in real time, possibility of processing of high volume data from multiple sources, platform independence, platform allowing integration with user solution and open license. At first we will talk about existing CEP tools and their specific way of use in praxis. Then we will mention the design of method for formalization of business rules used for decision making. Afterwards, we focus on two platforms which seem to be the best fit for integration of our solution and we will list the main pros and cons of each approach. Next part is devoted to benchmark platforms for CEP. Final part is devoted to experimental measurements of platform with integrated method for decision support.

Abstract Epigenome-Wide Association Study (EWAS) has become a standard strategy to discover DNA methylation variation of different phenotypes. Since 2018, we have developed EWAS Atlas and EWAS Data Hub to integrate a growing volume of EWAS knowledge and data, respectively. Here, we present EWAS Open Platform (https://ngdc.cncb.ac.cn/ewas) that includes EWAS Atlas, EWAS Data Hub and the newly developed EWAS Toolkit. In the current implementation, EWAS Open Platform integrates 617 018 high-quality EWAS associations from 910 publications, covering 51 phenotypes, 275 diseases and 104 environmental factors. It also provides well-normalized DNA methylation array data and the corresponding metadata from 115 852 samples, which involve 707 tissues, 218 cell lines and 528 diseases. Taking advantage of integrated knowledge and data in EWAS Atlas and EWAS Data Hub, EWAS Open Platform equips with EWAS Toolkit, a powerful one-stop site for EWAS enrichment, annotation, and knowledge network construction and visualization. Collectively, EWAS Open Platform provides open access to EWAS knowledge, data and toolkit and thus bears great utility for a broader range of relevant research.

Recently, a number of collaborative large-scale mouse mutagenesis programs have been launched. These programs aim for a better understanding of the roles of all individual coding genes and the biological systems in which these genes participate. In international efforts to share phenotypic data among facilities/institutes, it is desirable to integrate information obtained from different phenotypic platforms reliably. Since the definitions of specific phenotypes often depend on a tacit understanding of concepts that tends to vary among different facilities, it is necessary to define phenotypes based on the explicit evidence of assay results. We have developed a website termed PhenoSITE (Phenome Semantics Information with Terminology of Experiments: ), in which we are trying to integrate phenotype-related information using an experimental-evidence–based approach. The site's features include (1) a baseline database for our phenotyping platform; (2) an ontology associating international phenotypic definitions with experimental terminologies used in our phenotyping platform; (3) a database for standardized operation procedures of the phenotyping platform; and (4) a database for mouse mutants using data produced from the large-scale mutagenesis program at RIKEN GSC. We have developed two types of integrated viewers to enhance the accessibility to mutant resource information. One viewer depicts a matrix view of the ontology-based classification and chromosomal location of each gene; the other depicts ontology-mediated integration of experimental protocols, baseline data, and mutant information. These approaches rely entirely upon experiment-based evidence, ensuring the reliability of the integrated data from different phenotyping platforms.

Complex product system contains a number of different subsystems. The characteristics of multi-discipline and strong coupling exhibit due to the interconnection of subsystems. To achieve system-level optimization, integrated design on each subsystem is required. The traditional designing method using single simulation software is difficult to reflect the dynamic coupling among multiple subsystems. Therefore, the establishment of integrated design platform which is capable of multi-disciplinary and multi-domain simulation is necessary. This paper summarized the present design methods for multi-disciplinary integrated simulation platforms and the key technologies. Moreover, a case study with results was also provided to show the advantage of integrated multi-domain simulation. It will provide an important integrated authentication platform for the multi-disciplinary optimum design of complex product system.

Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) based on lithographically patterned waveguides provide a scalable approach for manipulating photonic bits, enabling seminal demonstrations of a wide range of photonic technologies with desired complexity and stability. While the next generation of applications such as ultra-high speed optical transceivers, neuromorphic computing and terabit-scale communications demand further lower power consumption and higher operating frequency. Complementing the leading silicon-based material platforms, the third-generation semiconductor, silicon carbide (SiC), offers a significant opportunity toward the advanced development of PICs in terms of its broadest range of functionalities, including wide bandgap, high optical nonlinearities, high refractive index, controllable artificial spin defects and complementary metal oxide semiconductor-compatible fabrication process. The superior properties of SiC have enabled a plethora of nano-photonic explorations, such as waveguides, micro-cavities, nonlinear frequency converters and optically-active spin defects. This remarkable progress has prompted the rapid development of advanced SiC PICs for both classical and quantum applications. Here, we provide an overview of SiC-based integrated photonics, presenting the latest progress on investigating its basic optoelectronic properties, as well as the recent developments in the fabrication of several typical approaches for light confinement structures that form the basic building blocks for low-loss, multi-functional and industry-compatible integrated photonic platform. Moreover, recent works employing SiC as optically-readable spin hosts for quantum information applications are also summarized and highlighted. As a still-developing integrated photonic platform, prospects and challenges of utilizing SiC material platforms in the field of integrated photonics are also discussed.

School management is influenced by the norms, values and rules that they make as a platform. This article aims to analyze the influence of moral values platform (Islamic value) toward school management of early childhood education in Indonesia. With case study approach at 6 Islamic Kindergarten (TK IT) in Padang, data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers and foundation leaders. FGDs were also conducted with the school principal in order to do the data enrichment and triangulation. Data were analized through data reduction, data display and data ferivication. The study results show three types of Integrated Islamic Kindergartens (TK IT) in Indonesia with different Islamic platforms, namely TK IT affiliated with JSIT, TK IT affiliated with ASESI and TK IT non-afiliated. These three type of integrated Islamic schools have Islamic platform on developed their schools. The difference of platform influenced the management of Integrated Islamic Kindergartens (TK IT) which includes design of school target, academic standard policies of school, and human resource management. Thus, the authors argue that the Islamic values on the school platform determine the school management.

In the paper, after a general framework on the state of the art in the sector, two recent experiences are reported about Information System and integrated service platform for managing Cultural Heritage that authors contributed to develop with the aim of providing experts of the field with effective and flexible tools: the Information System for the restoration of the Neptune’s Fountain and the SACHER 3D Life Cycle Management for Cultural Heritage service. The paper describes in detail the two case studies and some possible implementation designed but not yet achieved for the latter, and finally presents some starting points for future research.</p>
