AbstractWe study the moduli space of rank 2 instanton sheaves on ℙ3 in terms of representations of a quiver consisting of three vertices and four arrows between two pairs of vertices. Aiming at an alternative compactification for the moduli space of instanton sheaves, we show that for each rank 2 instanton sheaf, there is a stability parameter θ for which the corresponding quiver representation is θ-stable (in the sense of King), and that the space of stability parameters has a non-trivial wall-and-chamber decomposition. Looking more closely at instantons of low charge, we prove that there are stability parameters with respect to which every representation corresponding to a rank 2 instanton sheaf of charge 2 is stable and provide a complete description of the wall-and-chamber decomposition for representation corresponding to a rank 2 instanton sheaf of charge 1.

By using the so-called Information Metric on the moduli space of an anti-self-dual (ASD) Instanton in a self-dual (SD) noncommutative background, we investigate the geometry of moduli space. The metric is evaluated perturbatively in noncommutativity parameter and we show that by putting a cutoff in the location of instanton in the definition of Information Metric we can recover the five-dimensional space–time in the presence of a B-field. This result shows that the noncommutative YM-Instanton Moduli corresponds to D-Instanton Moduli in the gravity side where the radial and transverse location of D-Instanton correspond to YM-Instanton size and location, respectively. The match is shown in the first order of noncommutativity parameter.

We calculate some nonperturbative (D-instanton) quantum corrections to the moduli space metric of several (n>1) identical matter hypermultiplets for the type-IIA superstrings compactified on a Calabi–Yau threefold, near conifold singularities. We find a nontrivial deformation of the (real) 4n-dimensional hypermultiplet moduli space metric due to the infinite number of D-instantons, under the assumption of n tri-holomorphic commuting isometries of the metric, in the hyper-Kähler limit (i.e. in the absence of gravitational corrections).

A complete treatment of the (2,2) NSR string in flat (2 + 2)-dimensional space–time is given, from the formal path integral over N = 2 super Riemann surfaces to the computational recipe for amplitudes at any loop or gauge instanton number. We perform in detail the superconformal gauge fixing, discuss the spectral flow, and analyze the supermoduli space with emphasis on the gauge moduli. Background gauge field configurations in all instanton sectors are constructed. We develop chiral bosonization on punctured higher-genus surfaces in the presence of gauge moduli and instantons. The BRST cohomology is recapitulated, with a new space–time interpretation for picture-changing. We point out two ways of combining left- and right-movers, which lead to different three-point functions.

We study the problem of string propagation in a general instanton background for the case of the complete heterotic superstring. We define the concept of generalized hyper-Kähler manifolds and we relate it to (4,4) superconformal theories. We propose a generalized h-map construction that predicts a universal SU (6) symmetry for the modes of the string excitations moving in an instanton background. We also discuss the role of abstract N = 4 moduli and, applying it to the particular limit case of the solvable SU (2) × R instanton found by Callan et al., we show that it admits deformations and corresponds to a point in a 16-dimensional moduli space. The geometrical characterization of the other spaces in the same moduli space remains an open problem.

AbstractA trisymplectic structure on a complex $2n$-manifold is a three-dimensional space ${\rm\Omega}$ of closed holomorphic forms such that any element of ${\rm\Omega}$ has constant rank $2n$, $n$ or zero, and degenerate forms in ${\rm\Omega}$ belong to a non-degenerate quadric hypersurface. We show that a trisymplectic manifold is equipped with a holomorphic 3-web and the Chern connection of this 3-web is holomorphic, torsion-free, and preserves the three symplectic forms. We construct a trisymplectic structure on the moduli of regular rational curves in the twistor space of a hyperkähler manifold, and define a trisymplectic reduction of a trisymplectic manifold, which is a complexified form of a hyperkähler reduction. We prove that the trisymplectic reduction in the space of regular rational curves on the twistor space of a hyperkähler manifold $M$ is compatible with the hyperkähler reduction on $M$. As an application of these geometric ideas, we consider the ADHM construction of instantons and show that the moduli space of rank $r$, charge $c$ framed instanton bundles on $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^{3}$ is a smooth trisymplectic manifold of complex dimension $4rc$. In particular, it follows that the moduli space of rank two, charge $c$ instanton bundles on $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^{3}$ is a smooth complex manifold dimension $8c-3$, thus settling part of a 30-year-old conjecture.

The membrane instanton superpotential for M-theory on the G2 holonomy manifold given by the cone on S3×S3 is given by the dilogarithm and has Heisenberg monodromy group in the quantum moduli space. We compare this to a Heisenberg group action on the type IIA hypermultiplet moduli space for the universal hypermultiplet, to metric corrections from membrane instantons related to a twisted dilogarithm for the deformed conifold and to a flat bundle related to a conifold period, the Heisenberg group and the dilogarithm appearing in five-dimensional Seiberg/Witten theory.

The topic of this thesis is the study of moduli spaces of periodic monopoles (with singularities), i.e. (singular) solutions to the Bogomolny equation (the dimensional reduction of the anti-self-duality equation to 3 dimensions) on R2 x S1. Using arguments from physics, Cherkis and Kapustin gave strong evidence that 4–dimensional moduli spaces of (singular) periodic monopoles yield examples of gravitational instantons (i.e. complete hyperkähler 4–manifolds with decaying curvature) of type ALG. Recently, Hein constructed ALG metrics by solving a complex Monge- Ampère equation on the complement of a fibre in a rational elliptic surface. The thesis is the first step in a programme aimed to verify Cherkis and Kapustin’s predictions and understand them in relation to Hein’s construction. More precisely: (i) We construct moduli spaces of periodic monopoles (with singularities) and show that they are smooth hyperkähler manifolds for generic choices of parameters. (ii) For each admissible choice of charge and number of singularities (and under additional conditions on the parameters in certain cases), we show that moduli spaces of periodic monopoles (with singularities) are non-empty by gluing methods. After presenting these results, we will conclude the thesis with an outline of the other steps in the programme.

We study two instanton correction problems of Hitchin's moduli spaces along with their wall crossing formulas. The hyperkahler metric of a Hitchin's moduli space can be put into an instanton-corrected form according to physicists Gaiotto, Moore and Neitzke. The problem boils down to the construction of a set of special coordinates which can be constructed as Fock-Goncharov coordinates associated with foliations of quadratic differentials on a Riemann surface. A wall crossing formula of Kontsevich and Soibelman arises both as a crucial consistency condition and an effective computational tool. On the other hand Gross and Siebert have succeeded in determining instanton corrections of complex structures of Calabi-Yau varieties in the context of mirror symmetry from a singular affine structure with additional data. We will show that the two instanton correction problems are equivalent in an appropriate sense via the identification of the wall crossing formulas in the metric problem with consistency conditions in the complex structure problem. This is a nontrivial statement of mirror symmetry of Hitchin's moduli spaces which till now has been mostly studied in the framework of geometric Langlands duality. This result provides examples of Calabi-Yau varieties where the instanton correction (in the sense of mirror symmetry) of metrics and complex structures can be determined. This equivalence also relates certain enumerative problems in foliations to some gluing constructions of affine varieties.

L'homologie instanton-symplectique est un invariant associé à une variété de dimension trois close orientée, qui a été dé?ni par Manolescu et Woodward, et qui correspond conjecturalement à une version symplectique d'une homologie des instantons de Floer. Dans cette thèse nous étudions le comportement de cet invariant sous l'effet d'une somme connexe, d'une chirurgie de Dehn, et d'un cobordisme de dimension quatre. Nous établissons une formule de Künneth pour la somme connexe : si Y et Y' désignent deux variétés closes orientées de dimension trois, l'homologie instanton-symplectique associée à leur somme connexe est isomorphe à la somme directe du produit tensoriel de leurs groupes d'homologie instantonsymplectique respectifs, et de leur produit de torsion (après décalage des degrés). Nous définissons des versions tordues de cette homologie, et prouvons un analogue de la suite exacte de Floer, reliant les groupes associés à une triade de chirurgie. Cette suite exacte nous permet de calculer le rang des groupes associés à des familles de variétés, notamment les revêtements doubles ramifiés d'entrelacs quasi-alternés, des chirurgies entières de grande pente le long de certains noeuds, ainsi que certaines variétés obtenues par plombage de fibrés en disques au-dessus de sphères. Nous définissons enfin des invariants pour des cobordismes de dimension 4 prenant la forme d'applications entre groupes d'homologie instantonsymplectique des bords, et prouvons que deux des morphismes intervenant dans la suite exacte de chirurgie s'interprètent comme de telles applications, associées aux cobordismes d'attachement d'anses. Nous donnons également un critère d'annulation pour de telles applications associées à des éclatements
Symplectic instanton homology is an invariant for closed oriented three-manifolds, defined by Manolescu and Woodward, which conjecturally corresponds to a symplectic version of a variant of Floer's instanton homology. In this thesis we study the behaviour of this invariant under connected sum, Dehn surgery, and four-dimensional cobordisms. We prove a Künneth-type formula for the connected sum: let Y and Y' be two closed oriented three-manifolds, we show that the symplectic instanton homology of their connected sum is isomorphic to the direct sum of the tensor product of their symplectic instanton homology, and a shift of their torsion product. We define twisted versions of this homology, and then prove an analog of the Floer exact sequence, relating the invariants of a Dehn surgery triad. We use this exact sequence to compute the rank of the groups associated to branched double covers of quasi-alternating links, some plumbings of disc bundles over spheres, and some integral Dehn surgeries along certain knots. We then define invariants for four dimensional cobordisms as maps between the symplectic instanton homology of the two boundaries. We show that among the three morphisms in the surgery exact sequence, two are such maps, associated to the handle-attachment cobordisms. We also give a vanishing criteria for such maps associated to blow-ups

GaugThe first half of the thesis concerns Abelian vortices and Yang-Mills theory. It is proved that the 5 types of vortices recently proposed by Manton are actually symmetry reductions of (anti-)self-dual Yang-Mills equations with suitable gauge groups and symmetry groups acting as isometries in a 4-manifold. As a consequence, the twistor integrability results of such vortices can be derived. It is presented a natural definition of their kinetic energy and thus the metric of the moduli space was calculated by the Samols' localisation method. Then, a modified version of the Abelian–Higgs model is proposed in such a way that spontaneous symmetry breaking and the Bogomolny argument still hold. The Painlevé test, when applied to its soliton equations, reveals a complete list of its integrable cases. The corresponding solutions are given in terms of third Painlevé transcendents and can be interpreted as original vortices on surfaces with conical singularity. The last two chapters present the following results in projective differential geometry and Hamiltonians of hydrodynamic-type systems. It is shown that the projective structures defined by the Painlevé equations are not metrisable unless either the corresponding equations admit first integrals quadratic in first derivatives or they define projectively flat structures. The corresponding first integrals can be derived from Killing vectors associated to the metrics that solve the metrisability problem. Secondly, it is given a complete set of necessary and sufficient conditions for an arbitrary affine connection in 2D to admit, locally, 0, 1, 2 or 3 Killing forms. These conditions are tensorial and simpler than the ones in previous literature. By defining suitable affine connections, it is shown that the problem of existence of Killing forms is equivalent to the conditions of the existence of Hamiltonian structures for hydrodynamic-type systems of two components.

We study the compactification of moduli spaces defined by the anti-self-dual (ASD) Yang-Mills equations on SU(2) or SO(3) bundles over closed oriented Riemannian 4-manifolds and 4-orbifolds. In general the ASD moduli space is not compact since the curvature of a sequence of connections may blow up at some points in the manifold. There is a widely-used version of compactification called Uhlenbeck compactification. The idea is to add “ideal connections” to the ASD moduli space as limit points of sequences of ASD connections with curvature blow up. One downside of Uhlenbeck compactification is that the space near those added “ideal connections” (which are called lower strata) are very singular. But under certain circumstances, e.g., the KotschickMorgan conjecture, we want the compact moduli space to be smooth (smooth manifold or orbifold) so lower strata contributions can be extracted. In the first part of this thesis, we review the background and set-up of the ASD moduli spaces and Uhlenbeck compactification. In the second part of this thesis, we introduce the main technical machinery: bubble tree compactification, which gives us a smooth orbifold structure on ASD moduli spaces around lower strata. In the third part of this thesis, we apply the technique to a 4-orbifold with finite singularities and cyclic-group-actions around singularities and get a bubble tree compactification of the ASD moduli space on SU(2) or SO(3) bundles over this particular kind of 4-orbifold. Then we calculate an example on the bubble tree compactification of the instanton moduli space on the complex projective space CP2 and the weighted complex projective space CP2 [a0,a1,a2] . In the fourth part, we give the definition of the Donaldson invariant through bubble tree compactification, extend it to the orbifold case and get an “equivariant localised Donaldson invariant”. In the fifth part, as an application of bubble tree compactification, we prove the Kotschick-Morgan conjecture. Finally, we discuss the future directions that the bubble-tree-technique may apply to, including an orbifold-version of the Kotschick-Morgan conjecture, K-theoretic Donaldson invariant, bubble tree compactification for non-abelian monopole moduli spaces and potential application to the Witten conjecture relating Donaldson invariants and Seiberg-Witten invariants.

The authors review how attention helps track and process dynamic events, selecting and integrating information across time and space to produce a continuing identity for a moving, changing target. Rather than a fixed ‘spotlight’ that helps identify a static target, attention needs a mobile window or ‘pointer’ to track a moving target, picking up pieces of evidence along the way to determine not just what the target is, but what it is doing. Behavioural studies show that this dynamic version of attention is model-based, using familiar trajectories to help identify a target and to guide encoding of continuing input from its path. Attention has very coarse temporal resolution for both static and moving targets. However, when the focus of selection is on the move, a given location on a moving target’s path can be selected for extremely brief instants, as little as 50 ms, compared to the typical ‘dwell time’ or minimum duration of attention selection at a fixed location, of 200 ms or more. To determine the path of a moving object, attention must accurately process and sort the onsets and offsets in order to match an offset to the subsequent onset. This aspect of dynamic attention has been called the ‘when’ pathway and patient studies show that it is a qualitatively different system from spatial attention, being completely based in the right parietal lobe for events in both hemifields. Finally, like the salience map of spatial attention, temporal attention may have its own map that guides allocation to upcoming, current, and recent moments to select information at the appropriate time, changing the experience of time as it does so.

This chapter revisits recent results regarding the geometry and moduli of solutions of the heterotic string on manifolds Y with a G 2 structure. In particular, such heterotic G 2 systems can be rephrased in terms of a differential Ď acting on a complex Ωˇ∗(Y,Q), where Ωˇ=T∗Y⊕End(TY)⊕End(V), and Ď is an appropriate projection of an exterior covariant derivative D which satisfies an instanton condition. The infinitesimal moduli are further parametrized by the first cohomology HDˇ1(Y,Q). The chapter proceeds to restrict this system to manifolds X with an SU(3) structure corresponding to supersymmetric compactifications to four-dimensional Minkowski space, often referred to as Strominger–Hull solutions. In doing so, the chapter derives a new result: the Strominger–Hull system is equivalent to a particular holomorphic Yang–Mills covariant derivative on Q|X=T∗X⊕End(TX)⊕End(V).

The implementation of online education has roughly the same beginnings as the Internet. Without being new, therefore, education in the online system - adopted selectively and optionally, depending on the needs and possibilities of different geographical areas of the world - has become, as a result of the medical context generated by COVID-19, part of the educational reality of any student and teaching staff respectively. An extreme situation that required the adaptation and instant reconfiguration of methods of knowledge transmission and evaluation within the institutionalized training process. Beyond the component of replacing the physical space of the class/course with a domestic environment, (a variable of great psychological impact on the subjects) there is the problem of adjustment, respectively reception and reproduction (through evaluation) of informational contents in an exclusively non-interactive manner proved to be the real challenge. One that everyone involved in the didactic process had to face, this time the "selective" and "optional" criteria becoming imperative. Even though before the start of the period in question, the e-learning system was an integral part of the educational process, it operated in a hybrid manner, with participants having the possibility of direct collaboration. The new reality, translated by cancelling these possibilities, brought with it profound transformations, especially at the cognitive, behavioural, and relational level. How the students understood to report this new reality from the perspective of ethical behaviour objectifies this article.

A novel method based on interval analysis is proposed in this work for modeling and response prediction of SISO uncertain switching dynamic systems. To describe the system’s dynamic in any operating mode, a local linear model is used. The validity domain of any local model is determined in system’s input-output space. To take into account the modeling error, adjustable parameters of local models are considered time-varying and characterized by intervals of real numbers. A model whose parameters are characterized by intervals is called an interval model. A procedure is also developed to perform nstep prediction of system’s response using the multi-mode interval model. Since the model parameters are intervals, the predicted response at any instant is not a real number anymore but an interval of real numbers. The set of predicted intervals at different instances generates a tube through time called wrapping envelope. However, the identification/characterization procedure proposed in the early stage of this work guarantees that the wrapping envelope includes the system’s response taking into account possible modeling error and perturbations. This envelope can be used in diagnosis to supervise healthy operation of the system as well as in process safety analysis to guarantee that the physical variables of the system never enter in forbidden operating zones and the system remains in safe operating conditions.

Computer-mediated communication (CMC) is becoming common place in the preparation of teachers. This chapter will focus on the application of CMC and will provide insight on how technology can be used in P-12 classrooms and potentially impact student learning. The purpose of the chapter is to: (a) describe the development, implementation, outcomes, and sustainability of a pre-service teacher (PST) supervision model arranged around digital technology and telecommunications, providing supervision and support for PSTs engaged in a student teaching internship, and (b) to discuss how the technology utilized may later be utilized by participating PSTs in their future classrooms (specifically videoconferencing, instant messaging, video sharing, and the critical analysis and reflection of current practices). The authors created a virtual-geographical third space in the form of a Teaching Lab that was mediated with a multimedia platform and designed around the principle of Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (CHAT). The authors also provided opportunities for PSTs to interact within that space for reflection and the sharing of best practices.

This article is devoted to the innovative violin method of teaching which reveals different angles of the paradigm processes of the formation of the text of violin instrumental music of the era on Romanticism and the semantic organization of the musical narrative in the development of the intertextual dialogue "one's own-another's" on the material of the 5th Caprice for Paganini's violin-solo. The problem of dialogue in art in a broad sense is now one of the most popular both in modern domestic musicology and in culture in general. This exploration constitutes a fragmented but very important section from the structural elements of which the research innovative violin methodology is formed and consist, which rapidly increases motility, qualitatively alters of sound production, accurately, clear articulation, uses new technology that instantly allows you get rid of tension in the muscles during the performances of musical pieces, regardless of the speed of the pace of the instrumental pieces being performed, allows instant concentration and helps to overcome the stage excitement of the performer, using a combination of carefully selected instrumental and psychological tools (attitude and practices). The technique pushed the author to highlight the main directions and principles of interaction of textual reincarnations. The stated problem significantly expands the spectral directions in the study of the semantic organization of narratives in research exploration. The study of the texts of instrumental pieces in intertextual interactions allows to get into the processes of text creation and to investigate their influence on the realization of the final idea of the composer and performer. The process of forming the text of instrumental music as the end result and the end point of full-fledged research is an open scientific problem. The peculiarity of this study is the intersection of musicological, cultural and psychological views on the stated issues. We’re guided in its work by various multifunctional methodologies of several scientific areas: from purely musical to culturological (using synergistic, hermeneutic, gnoseological and aesthetic approaches) and psychological (relying on the knowledge of the psychology of creativity using various setting and practices, existential approach). The use of research innovative violin technique makes this study unique and different from previous explorations. The approach to studying the text of any volume and complexity will be the key to a better understanding of the cultural dialogue of postmodern times, when the performer face to face enters into an imaginary dialogue of artists in the study of cultural processes, to better understand themselves, to clarify cultural, psychological and musicological paradigms of reading an artistic text. The study of the semantic mechanisms of the instrumental text will provide an opportunity to delve into the processes of textual dialogue and will reveal the features of the artistic possibilities of the theme of Caprice 5, which acts as an intertextual model for any instrumental pieces, regardless of the time of their creation. Culture reveals its meanings through the stylistics of texts, which is why it is so important to master different ways of thinking. And cultural stereoscopicity will allow us to consider the problem of intertext mechanisms polyphonically and dynamically, from the study of cultural codes and communications to the revival of cultural space in the polyphony of existence.

Validating modern oceanographic theories using models produced through stereo computer vision principles has recently emerged. Space-time (4-D) models of the ocean surface may be generated by stacking a series of 3-D reconstructions independently generated for each time instant or, in a more robust manner, by simultaneously processing several snapshots coherently in a true “4-D reconstruction.” However, the accuracy of these computer-vision-generated models is subject to the estimations of camera parameters, which may be corrupted under the influence of natural factors such as wind and vibrations. Therefore, removing the unpredictable errors of the camera parameters is necessary for an accurate reconstruction. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm that can jointly perform a 4-D reconstruction as well as correct the camera parameter errors introduced by external factors. The technique is founded upon variational optimization methods to benefit from their numerous advantages: continuity of the estimated surface in space and time, robustness, and accuracy. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested using synthetic data produced through computer graphics techniques, based on which the errors of the camera parameters arising from natural factors can be simulated.

Real-time spatiotemporal population data is attracting a great deal of attention for understanding crowd movements in cities.The data is the aggregation of personal location information and consists of just areas and the number of people in each area at certain time instants. Accordingly, it does not explicitly represent crowd movement. This paper proposes a probabilistic model based on collective graphical models that can estimate crowd movement from spatiotemporal population data. There are two technical challenges: (i) poor estimation accuracy as the traditional approach means the model would have too many degrees of freedom, (ii) excessive computation cost. Our key idea for overcoming these two difficulties is to model the transition probability between grid cells (cells hereafter) in a geospatial grid space by using three factors: departure probability of cells, gathering score of cells, and geographical distance between cells. These advances enable us to reduce the degrees of freedom of the model appropriately and derive an efficient estimation algorithm. To evaluate the performance of our method, we conduct experiments using real-world spatiotemporal population data. The results confirm the effectiveness of our method, both in estimation accuracy and computation cost.

Full-bore decompression of an initially highly pressurized pipe has been studied extensively in recent years. The main aim of this effort has been to estimate the speed of the decompression wave and its relationship to the speed of a travelling fracture in the pipe wall. It has been demonstrated that the speed of the decompression wave is influenced by the friction at the gas-solid interface, and also by the pipe size (diameter). The numerical value of the friction factor has been traditionally estimated using known relationships such as the Haaland formula. However, it has also been noticed that the friction factor calculated in this way has to be increased many-fold to achieve agreement between theory and experiment. To date, there is no physical justification for this increase. The present paper proposes an explanation by modelling the full-bore decompression as a ‘transient Fanno’ flow. The model development is based on the observation that the flow at the exit plane always tends to approach a ‘choked’ condition (sonic velocity). It is shown that a re-interpretation of the Fanno flow formula allows an estimation of the irreversibility, and therefore the friction factor, in the evolving flow. When averaged over space and time, the friction factor attains a value that need not be artificially adjusted. This value of the friction factor can be used in one-dimensional models of the decompression process. Also, the role of the ‘second coefficient of viscosity’ during the initial instants of the highly transient flow is examined.
