This paper presents an Information Structure (IS) model at the information packaging (IPk) level and its usage in utterance partitioning and in explaining semantic IS category realizations at the pragmatic level. The IPk model proposes a hierarchical view of F0 contours that transforms utterances into binary contrast unit (CU) hierarchies. CUs have binary IPk partitions with two independent and overlapping structures and a nuclear element which project its IPk functions to the whole units it belongs to. Two nuclear accent identification rules are formulated in this paper in order to be used in decoding IPk partition hierarchy by F0 contour analysis. In the second part of the paper several intonational contours of English sentences, having different semantic IS events, are interpreted by correlating semantic IS analysis results with those of the IPk model-based analysis. By decoding IPk structure and functional constituents from F0 contours we can advance our knowledge about the relationship between prosody and intonational meaning.

With the growing participation by diverse stakeholders in the total flow of products, as seen with supply chains and logistics, it is becoming increasingly complicated to decide what information is to be shared and who is to be a partner. The purpose of this study is to explore the role of packaging as an offline method to share information in the total channel. This is because packaging improves communication among stakeholders and is normally part of the first contact between them and the product. Thus, it has the strategic potential to share product information that meets stakeholders’ needs. To accomplish this objective, we built a research framework that depicts four hypotheses and tested it with structural equation modeling (SEM). Data were collected by surveys and measured for statistical analysis. After identifying the role of packaging, we showed nine specific related variables and the information’s perceived effects on stakeholders and their directions and relative values. This will help future researchers to discuss packaging’s extended roles, the needs of information separation, and its priority to be shared to help executives develop packaging strategies as an offline means to share information. Additionally, as packaging is considered to be an information generator, it gives participants the opportunity to extend its roles and to assign additional information to the product along the offline flow of goods from manufacturers to end users.

In his work on information packaging-i.e., the structuring of propositional content in function of the speaker's assumptions about the hearer's information state­ Vallduví (1992, 1993, 1994) identifies the informational primitives <it>focus</it>, <it>link</it> and <it>tail</it>, which are adapted from the traditional focus/ground and topic/comment ap­proaches, and argues that the exploitation of information states of hearers by the information-packaging strategies of speakers reveals that these states have at least the internal structure of a system of Heimian file cards: links, which correspond to what are traditionally known as topics, say <it>where</it>-on what file card-the focal information goes, and tails indicate <it>how</it> it fits there. Since there are various reasons for not believing this, the present paper proposes to model information states as Kampian discourse representation structures, without locations. This requires and leads to a different perspective on the function of links. They signal non-monotone anaphora: their discourse referent Y is anaphoric to an antecedent discourse marker X such that X ? Y. This idea will be shown to subsume 'non-identity' anaphora, contrastive stress, pronoun referent resolution, and restrictiveness of relatives and adjectives.

Differential Object Marking (DOM) in Burmese is usually analysed as directly related to the expression of information structure. Yet, this corpus-based study of DOM and the associated prosody finds that DOM is not based on information structure alone, but is also additionally motivated by discourse structure and content management. The suggested analysis proposes that DOM in Burmese provides a grammatical structure of information packaging: a system of separating information into units (packages) and establishing relations between them. Different configurations of packaging are employed to create an array of context-dependent interpretive effects related to information structure, discourse structure, and other factors. Hence, it is argued that information structure is not directly expressed in the language. Instead, it stems from an interpretation of the interplay between information packaging and various pragmatic-semantic factors, and is but one of the possible effects created by packaging.

Cube chili has potential to be commercialized. However, packaging of the product has not yet been prepared well for commercialized purpose. Therefore, it’s necessary to do a research about product packaging. This research aims to obtain the best secondary packaging for cube chili, determine the level of consumer preference towards the packaging and get the information about the added value of packaged cube chilli. Selection of the best secondary packaging for cube chili according assessment from 5 experts with Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, distributing hedonic test questionnaires to 25 customers for the selection of the preferred packaging, analyzed with Kruskal Wallis method and determination of the added value packaging with Hayami method. Secondary packagings that have been used are plastic box polistirene (PS) with thickness of 0.167 mm, folding box carton (FC) with thickness of 0.5 mm and plastic box polistirene (PS) with thickness of 1 mm. Result of this research showed that the best secondary packaging according to expert assessment is PS box 1 mm (0,468). The packaging of cube chili that most preferred by consumers is FC-box 0.5 mm (4,44). The highest added value is owned by the cube chili that packed with PS boxes 0.167 mm (51.89%)

This paper illustrated the teaching status of packaging experiment in colleges and universities, discussed feasibility of constructing virtual packaging lab on the basis of virtual instrument and information control , introduced hardware structure and software module of virtual packaging lab in detail, and analyzed development of virtual instrument for temperature measurement under liquid filling through examples. Moreover, packaging lab can be constructed with the lowest cost and the utilization rate of experimental instrument can be increased through virtual instrument; this is an important development direction for packaging lab.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to show that consumer education in the form of information can effectively overcome adoption barriers to new and innovative wine packaging. This effectiveness depends on both the degree in packaging innovation and the level of consumer involvement. Design/methodology/approach The paper is based on an online experiment conducted with a sample of 427 German consumers to analyse the perception of consumers about innovative packaging. The experiment featured three different packaging options: bottles with screw-cap closures, bag-in-box and StackTek®. For each packaging form, a treatment group with additional information about the packaging and a reference group without this information were surveyed. ANOVA and t-tests were carried out to test the hypotheses. A moderated regression analysis was used to examine the effect of involvement in combination with information on intention to buy. Findings The results revealed that low-involvement consumers react positively to additional information about the benefits of a new packaging. For highly involved consumers, however, the effect of information is not significant. Furthermore, the analysis showed that low-involvement consumers mainly buy wine in supermarkets. Practical implications Information about new packaging forms should be presented in places where low-involvement consumers buy wine, such as at supermarkets. These consumers can be influenced by the additional information about the innovative packaging. Originality/value The use of a moderated regression analysis in the context of wine packaging and involvement is a first and reveals new and valuable insights.

The samples of primary and secondary packaging items of antibiotics manufactured in Bangladesh or imported by local distributing agencies, were collected and thoroughly examined from 2009 to 2010 on the basis of 32 parameters. These parameters are usually regarded important for the labeling of any drug, from the view point of standards set by national regulatory agencies, such as Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). The primary and secondary packaging items of a total of 10 pharmaceutical industries have been collected, sorted/arranged and meticulously studied, and packaging parameters were accumulated for analysis. It has been observed that many of the important packaging information were either completely missing or not properly described on the labels, inserts, inner carton, outer carton and container. This study was aimed at examining to what extent the packaging information is provided in the primary and secondary packaging items of antibiotics. Various information systems have been implemented in most of the customized panel furniture companies in China, resulting in increased production difficulty and informational isolation. Enterprises need to adopt more systematic, scientific, and information-based methods to guide the production on the shop floor. Packaging optimization is important because it promotes sustainable development in furniture enterprise. Through the examination of the packaging process in customized panel furniture companies, this study investigated the bottleneck problems of the packaging process, which are predominantly focused on the calculation of the optimal packaging scheme and the upgrade of information systems. After exploring the theories and methods to solve the existing bottleneck problems, the heuristic algorithm was applied to obtain the optimal packaging schemes and complete the upgrade of packaging process information system. Based on the intelligent packaging software in company A, the Taguchi method was applied to find the best optimization parameters, which was proven effective in comparison with the original packaging solution. The number of packaging was decreased by 3.0%, and the amount of packaging corrugated paper decreased by 12.4. The packaging efficiency represented by the total packaging time showed a significant improvement despite the unit packaging time having increased by 2.0%.

To speed up the buffering of visualization images and ensure the integrity of visualization images, this paper proposes the construction of a virtual packaging model of visualization images based on visual communication of deep learning (DL). Based on the visual communication, the specific calibration steps of the visual image are designed to complete the adjustment of the visual image by using the calibration process of the visual image. We introduce the minimum buffer coefficient of the visual image, calculate the size of the buffer liner of the visual image, correct the thickness of the visual image, and complete the design of the buffer package of the visual image. Finally, the process of constructing the virtual packaging model of the visualized image is constructed to realize the virtual packaging of the visualized image. The simulation results show that the visual image virtual packaging model based on visual communication improves the buffering speed of visual image by 66.6% compared with the visual image virtual packaging model based on machine vision.

Packaging is an important factor influencing purchasing decisions, especially in the case of food products. Packaging draws the consumer’s attention and communicates with the consumer at a critical time in the purchasing process, providing information, while instructing and educating. The significance of the information varies depending on the product and on the information needs of the consumer stemming from his or her attitude. The level of consumer engagement in the purchase can significantly determine the perception of information – both emotional and factual - on the packaging. The aim of the article was to research the perception of the emotional content and factual information on the packaging of fruit juice, taking into account the level of consumer engagement in the purchase. It was assumed that high consumer engagement would result in greater visual attention to the product information. The tools used achieve the goal included eye-tracking and a questionnaire. The results have indicated that the level of consumer engagement in the purchase of fruit juice (purchase frequency and motivation) does not affect preferences regarding the type of the perceived information.

AbstractThe purpose of the article is to present the concept of information value of food packaging, characterize determinants of information value and present the results of own research on the identification of key information on packaging affecting purchasing decisions of food consumers. Unit packaging constituting an inherent element of food products equipment should fulfill numerous, overlapping functions, which include: protection, transport andinformation — functional, as well as ecological and promotional. One of the priority functions of product packaging (not just food) is the informative function. It is assumed that the proper selection of information encoded on the packaging should inform the consumer exhaustively, reliably and comprehensively about the packed product, its composition, nutritional values or storage conditions. Analyzing the information included on food packaging, it can be stated that entities introducing these products onto the market still show a tendency to “excessively” label the packaging (as part of optional labeling). It is therefore reasonable to specify what information is analyzed by consumers in the purchasing process and what information constitutes the information value of unit packets from the point of view of individual consumers. The above will allow identifying key determinants of the information value of packaging and may constitute valuable information for entities introducing products to trade in the field of proper selection of characters and codes of unit packets on the food market.

The article is devoted to the analysis of polycode advertising texts placed on food packaging. The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that at present, when the decision to purchase is often made directly at the point of sale, the role of information on the packaging has increased many times over. This fact makes it necessary to analyze modern technologies of influence and manipulation that are relevant for this type of discourse. The author considers the text on the packaging as a communicative and structural holistic message, consisting of semiotically heterogeneous elements, characterized by high pragmatic and expressive saturation, aimed at encouraging consumers to make a purchase of a particular product. A typology of functions performed by the information on the packaging is proposed. The main polycode tools that ensure the effective implementation of these functions are considered. As the most frequent polycode techniques used in the text on food packaging, the author identifies the following: an emphasis is made on a unique component in the composition, categorization of the target audience according to certain criteria, the use of means of expression, including provocative metaphorization, appeal to authoritative opinion, the use of stylistic visualization, technologies of narrative and storytelling, etc.

Mpok Imeh Chips is an Independent small business that produces Balado cassava chips in Jakarta, where cassava chips are packaged using plain plastic so that it has an unattractive impression. This research focuses on developing packaging designs that are following customer desires using the quality function deployment (QFD) method. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the customer's requirement for cassava chip packaging produced by UKM Mpok Imah includes cassava chip packaging that functions to protect the product, a medium packaging size. The form packaging is a standing pouch. Cassava chips packaging is made of polypropylene plastic transparent packaging. There is product information on the packaging. The packaging design is based on the house of quality (HOQ) in QFD and uses polypropylene plastic materials, size (14 x 22) cm, a weight of 250 grams, cassava chips illustration, transparent and a standing pouch packing, description on the label shown on the front view design shows a visualization of the chip's packaging, there is some information about the product including the product name, net weight, address of the producing party and the halal logo. On the back packaging shown, there is information about the composition, storage rules and how used the packaging information expiration date of the packaged product.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether or not the pharmaceutical companies of Bangladesh are providing all the necessary information and instructions in the packaging materials of pharmaceutical products which are available in Bangladesh. With this aim, the sample of secondary packaging material (cartons, labels, inserts or direction slips) of a total 150 products (from 50 generics) marketed by 15 pharmaceutical companies have been selected and were collected from different medical stores of Dhaka city. The packaging materials of the collected samples were then evaluated based on various regulatory and clinical parameters. It was found that some of the packaging materials of these selected pharmaceutical products lack several important information in terms of clinical and regulatory parameters which limits the quality of these packaging materials. Effective communication through language involves organizing the content a person or system wishes to convey into text that flows naturally. There are many ways to render the same information, but those appropriate for one group of audience may not be intelligible to another. The goal of this thesis to analyze and address factors that influence the intelligibility of text from two aspects of information packaging: discourse structure and text specificity.
