Bilingualism happens not only orally but also in written Indonesian articles. Usually, the articles use Indonesian and English terms. Bilingualism even can be seen in the articles’ titles. One of the fields that often use bilingual terms is found in Mechanical Engineering's articles. It happens because mechanical engineering has specialized terminology that sometimes untranslated into Indonesian terms. Many Indonesian experts have translated many English books with many variations of translation results. Therefore, the translation results are still questioned whether they are acceptable or not in Indonesian. This study aims to examine the factors of bilingualisms by observing titles of articles and finding the translation methods to translate the terminology from English to Indonesian. This study was qualitative research; by using questionnaires and observation, the research reveals that the main factor is untranslatability, where the English terminology cannot find its equivalent meaning in Indonesian. By using Molina and Albir's translation techniques, researchers reveal that the English terminologies can be translated in Indonesian using (1) amplification, (2) borrowing, (3) established equivalence, (4) calque, and (5) literal translation. This study concludes that the untranslatability problem can be solved when the experts try to use the accepted translation results rather than using English terms.

Hedging and boosting or ‘pembentengan’ (Indonesian) is the act of scientific writers in maintaining smooth scientific communication. This paper answers two problem formulations, i.e., what are the linguistic manifestations of hedges and boosters in Indonesian scientific articles, and how their meaning reveals the writer's level of confidence in the information conveyed. This study aims to enrich the description of scientific writing practices in Indonesia to support the development of scientific writing skills in general. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. This research data is in the form of sentences containing hedges and boosters from various scientific journals published in Indonesia through the note-taking technique. The main theory to analyze the data is the theory on hedges and boosters. The data were analyzed semantically, syntactically, and pragmatically. The results show that hedges and boosters in the form of adverbs are the most commonly used in Indonesian Scientific writing. The meaning of hedges and boosters cannot always be determined by their lexical meaning because each hedge and booster has to be seen in its use in the sentence. The Indonesian scientific community has its own agreement in the social interaction of scientific articles. Keywords: scientific writing; hedges and boosters; confidence; doubt; function; interaction

Recent studies show that lexical bundles in English are pervasively found in academic discourse. In addition, the characteristics of lexical bundles found vary and differ across registers and genres. Nevertheless, it is still interesting to carry out in languages other than English. This study aims to discover the characteristics of Indonesian lexical bundles that cover frequency, structure, and function in research articles. This study adopted a mixed-method. Identification of the lexical bundle was carried out using WordSmith 7.0 on a corpus comprising 3,125,546 words, taken from 1126 texts, and consisting of six disciplines. With a frequency threshold of 40 per million words and a minimum distribution of 5 texts, 197 lexical bundles have been obtained, consisting of three- to six-word bundles with a total occurrence of 51,813 times. In terms of structure, the incomplete structure is dominating the bundles by 78.7%, with a total frequency of occurrence 38,749 times. This research finds that the pattern of lexical bundles can be classified into five types: noun-based, prepositional-based, verb-based, adjective-based, and clause-based bundles. Lexical bundles in research articles are generally clause-based (49.2%). This indicates that Indonesian lexical bundles vary in structure. The use of clause fragments and passive verbs are the main features in this genre. In terms of the discourse function, research-oriented bundles are the functions that are commonly used, while participant-oriented bundles are the least. Each discourse function has its own structural characteristics. It is also found that one lexical bundle can have two functional categories. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the characteristics of written academic discourse. From the pedagogical point of view, the findings can be used as learning material for both native and non-native speakers.

No systematic review and/or meta-analysis has attempted to map the macro and comprehensive landscape conditions, developments, and trends of communication research in Indonesia in the past few decades. Therefore, it is challenging to measure the progress that Indonesian communication scholars have achieved. This study analyzed 3108 articles distributed in reputable communication scientific publications in Indonesia, spanning two decades: January 2001 to March 2020. This study found many optimistic or skeptical justifications of Indonesian communication scholars about the development of communication epistemology in Indonesia. During the two decades, although there had been an increase in publications relying on quantitative approaches, it can be seen that the dominance of qualitative approaches was irreplaceable. The trend of increasing research using a quantitative approach was only a conversion from literature review articles widely published in the early 2000s. The Ministry of Communication and Information, Indonesia, in the second position, as the institution that contributes to the most authors of scientific articles after the Universitas Islam Bandung in the first place, and even surpassing Universitas Hasanuddin, Universitas Padjadjaran dan Universitas Diponegoro showing that the agency of state institutions is one of the active actors in communication knowledge production and reproduction in Indonesia. The increasing number of citations over the past two decades indicates that Indonesian scholars are experiencing enrichment of reference sources and interconnection with other scholars. However, based on keyword trends, Indonesian research’s deliberative and progressive vision has yet to appear dominant.

This study reports Indonesian master students’ beliefs and practices on the use of reader engagement in writing research articles. This study was a case study conducted in one Indonesian university. The data were collected through questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The participants were 23 Indonesian master students. Furthermore, there were 9 research articles written by the participants which were analyzed in this study. The data were analyzed under the metadiscourse framework, specifically in the reader engagement: reader pronouns, personal asides, appeals to shared knowledge, directives, and questions. The findings show that Indonesian master students believe in the importance of using reader engagement in research articles. However, they rarely used it since they did not know the concept and how to use it effectively. It implies that more exposure to using metadiscourse, especially reader engagement, in research articles is needed for Indonesian master students to achieve more reader-friendly research articles.

Students in a high level of education must have been familiar with a great number of publications, including research articles. However, they might not have been experienced in writing and publishing their own research articles. This study reports the results of training 15 EFL students in the Doctorate Program in English Language Teaching (ELT) of an Indonesian university to carry out research and write the reports in the form of research articles. More particularly, it examined the students’ perception on the training in writing research articles for publication. The students attended 16-week course, Research on Second Language Writing, one of the courses offered in the university. The students were trained to understand the nature of research articles and practice in conducting research and writing their research articles. At the end of the course, they were requested to give responses to questions on whether or not they were assisted in writing research article abstracts; in developing the abstracts into research articles; and in developing sections of the research articles. The results showed that the students informed that they were assisted in writing research article abstracts, in developing abstracts into research articles, and in developing sections of the research articles.

Academic writing articles serve as the medium of communication among scholars to share knowledge and new inquiries and are made in such a way that the idea they deliver is both understandable and accepted. One essential action to accomplish this is by employing metadiscourse markers. Metadiscourse is viewed as an essential element of credible written texts created by students of ESL and native speakers, by which the intelligibility of communication in research articles can be accomplished through suitable discipline conscience, norms, and belief to track the writers’ pathway to academic promotions. Therefore, employing descriptive qualitative approach, this study aims at investigating the utilization of interpersonal metadiscourse markers and their functions in academic writing. Analysing discussion section of research articles written by Indonesian expert writers, the results show that the metadiscourse markers in the articles are found to be similar to the commonly used markers among academic community, including interactive and interactional markers. Moreover, the employment of markers in the articles reveal the functions of them to indicate relation between sentences, involvement of readers, existence of example, limitation of commitment to propositions, emphasis on general practice and certainty, and reference to the writer. HIGHLGHTS: The appropriate utilization of interactive and interactional metadiscourse markers in research articles indicates the international norm of academic writing. The Indonesian expert writer articles fulfill the intelligibility of communication in international research articles. The writing course in the universities needs to emphasize the essential functions of metadiscourse markers.

The existence of abstracts within research articles (RA) is one of the requirements of a published article. When the research is important internationally rather than locally, the abstract should be translated into English. Since lots of passive voice construction was found In Indonesian research articles, this study aims to explore the translation of passive voice in Indonesian RA abstracts into English conducted by human translation and machine translation (google translate). This present study is translational research by applying interpretative qualitative-quantitative analysis. The data in this study were RA abstracts obtained from Journal “Linguistics Indonesia” which was published in 2015- 2021, there are 60 research articles in total. After analyzing those articles with AntConc (a corpus-based analyzing tool), it was found that there are 341 passive voice occurrences in Indonesian research articles. However, in the translated abstract corpus, TERA-HT there are 308 occurrences and in TERA MT with 321 occurrences. Besides the differences in the frequency, there are also some differences in linguistics feature of passive in the translated abstracts, such as 1) The difference in using tenses; 2) The differences in using “Be (Singular/Plural); 3) the difference in using the passive voice construction and 4) Modulation (the change of Passive voice into Active voice). The argument quality in a research article discussion (henceforth RAD) determines the quality of the article as a whole, and therefore this section must be written as convincingly as possible. However, authors in different disciplines such as Language Studies (LS) may address this section in a different argument style. This study is aimed at investigating how Indonesian writers in LS support their findings in their RADs. There were 40 RADs taken from four different Indonesian journals in LS; the articles were chosen from the latest volumes of the nationally accredited journals. This study used a genre analysis method in which the major source of data is a collection of texts as a product of language activity. The results show that the majority of Indonesian writers use Style 1 (interpreting the research findings or suggesting what the research findings mean), Style 2 (explaining or elaborating the research findings), Style-3 (stating the possible cause/s of the research findings), and Style 4 (illustrating or exemplifying the research findings) to support their research findings. However, unlike international authors, Indonesian writers do not relate their research findings with those of previous related studies; if they do so, it is to confirm the interpretation or explanation of their research results. The results of this study may help Indonesian authors in LS improve the quality of their RADs especially when writing articles in English to be submitted to an international journal.

The study examines whether English and Indonesian research articles written by their respective native speaker scholars are significantly different from each other in terms of the number of hedges used. Hedges are rhetorical features (e.g. may, perhaps, suggest) used to withhold complete commitment to the truth-value of propositions. The ultimate goal of the study is to examine whether Indonesian scholars need special instruction in hedging propositions. The assumption underlying the present study is that when they write in English, Indonesian scholars will deploy rhetorical features inherent in the Indonesian academic writing. Statistical analysis on 52 Applied Linguistics research articles (26 from each language) reveals that English research articles contain significantly more hedges than their Indonesian counterparts (Mann-Whitney U = 68.00, n1 = n2 = 26, p < 0.05, r = - 0.69), suggesting that Indonesian scholars are indeed in need of instruction that specifically focuses on hedging propositions in English.

Hedge is claimed as linguistic of full commitment or precision commonly used in academic writing to give the appropriate uncertainty, proper strength of claimed data, politeness, and precise presentation in providing and presenting literary works i.e. research articles. This study aimed at revealing the tendency and preferences of Indonesian English Students in applying hedging strategies, and frequencies of hedges use, and if there were any differences between males and females in using hedges in research articles. Data corpus was composed of 40 articles written in English by male and female postgraduate students majoring English Education. The output was categorized which was referred to a combined framework proposed by Holmes (1988), Hyland (1998), Hyland and Milton (1997), Vartala (2001), and Crompton (1997) covering 9 types of hedges. The statistical result showed that although Indonesian Male English Students (IEMSs) employed Hedges in their research articles more frequently than Indonesian Female English Students (IEFSs) did, MANOVA proved that there was no significant effect of gender on the use of hedges in research articles written by Indonesian English Students. Nevertheless, ANOVA result confirmed significant main effects of gender on the use of some types of hedge (Adverb of Frequency, Quantifiers, Epistemic Lexical Verbs and Adjective& Adverb Informal).

This article examines the journey of democracy in Indonesia and citizenship education as a character education for democracy. This research was conducted using the literature study method by collecting information from various sources, such as books, journals and articles related to the research discussed. The results show that the Indonesian state has implemented its democracy and experienced several periods, until now it has undergone a period of reform. One proof of the success of democracy in Indonesia is that the Indonesian people are aware of political life and have begun to voice their aspirations and opinions. To carry out democracy even better, the Indonesian nation needs to be taught democracy education through citizenship education so that the Indonesian nation has good character as citizens.

Unlike for lecturers in Engineering, Medicine, Computer Science, and Agriculture and Biology Sciences, for Indonesian lecturers in Social Sciences and Humanities including in Linguistics and Language Education (LLE), publishing research articles in reputable or indexed international journals is very difficult. The possible cause of the difficulty is their unfamiliarity with the correct and appropriate use of rhetorical style in their articles as expected by international journal readers. This study is aimed at investigating the rhetorical of research article (RA) drafts written in English by Indonesian lecturers in Applied Linguistic and English Language Education in five different universities in Indonesia (i.e., Bengkulu University, Padang State University, Atmajaya Catholic University, Mataram University, and Makassar State University). A corpus of 20 English RA drafts was analyzed on their rhetorical and linguistic quality using a genre-based method. The results show that the majority of the RA drafts have addressed important moves in each section of the articles but in terms of the argument quality still needs improvement. This implies that the Indonesian university lecturers in LLE need to be familiar with and able to argue well in their article drafts as it is expected by international readers.

The research examined the use of one grammatical metaphor (hereafter GM) syndrome frequently found in Indonesian language research articles (hereafter RAs). This syndrome followed the lexicogrammatical structure of Process+Range or Process+Medium. An interesting feature of this GM syndrome, which, to date, had not been studied, was that while GM typically increased the lexical density of a clause by condensing meaning into nominal groups. This GM syndrome seemed to do the opposite. e.g., rather than writing ‘merubah’ (changed) as Process, writers used ‘melakukan perubahan’ (do some changes), which had the structure of Process+Range. This had the effect of delexicalizing the verb as well as increasing the number of words in the clauses. Instead of seeing this form as a mere ritual in academic writing, the research sought to understand the functional role in the RAs. The data was taken from a small corpus of RAs from two refereed Indonesian humanities journals. The occurrences of this GM syndrome were identified. A systemic analysis was then conducted with a metafunctional lens, examining the ideational, interpersonal, and textual functions of this form of GM syndrome. The analysis reveals that ideationally, GM syndrome is a resource to manage technicality, abstraction, taxonomy, and activity sequence; textually, the syndrome is a resource organizing textual coherence through the management of hyperThemes; and interpersonally, the syndrome functions as a resource for Graduation, which decreases the force of propositions.

The low publication rate of Indonesian researchers in reputable international journals, particularly in arts and humanities,is caused, among others, by difficulties they faced in producing precise expository texts in English, which are differentfrom texts in Indonesian. The present study examines lexical bundles in the corpora of English and Indonesian researcharticles (RA) on literature and linguistics to describe the similarities and differences of conventionalized phraseology inthe scientific genre of English and Indonesian by using corpus software, namely Sketch Engine. The study focuses onthe frequency, structural and functional characteristics of lexical bundles using a mixed-method research design. TheEnglish corpus comprises 1,351,048 words derived from 124 RA, while the Indonesian corpus consists of 637,910 wordscollected from 124 RA. We found that three-word lexical bundles are more prevalent than four-word lexical bundles inboth corpora. Based on the structural forms, prepositional-based bundles are the most frequent form in English RA, whilenoun-based bundles are the most common form in Indonesian RA. There were no participant-oriented bundles foundin the Indonesian RA corpus in terms of functional classification, whereas the English RA corpus involved more variedfunctional categories of lexical bundles. The findings provide an understanding of phraseological combinations in Englishand Indonesian scientific writing, characterizing disciplinary discourse as well as native and non-native English speakers’rhetorical style, and have pedagogical implications for EAP practitioners.

<p><em>The shift from printed articles to online articles makes online news even more important for us. This saying is also applied in Indonesia, as people in Indonesia have started to turn toward online news rather than printed ones. Due to the interest Indonesians have gathered toward online news, it is important for online news to be as objective as possible, as it becomes a primary source of information and the latest updates. For this reason, this research delves into the world of Indonesian online news to see how objective it is. This research uses Kompas.com as its subject of research, and propaganda model becomes the primary theory with critical discourse analysis (CDA) as its framework. Propaganda model uses ownership, advertising, sourcing, flak, and fear as aspects used to measure the mass media, in this case Indonesian online news. This research also uses ideology where power comes into play. Through propaganda model, ideology, and CDA, this research finds out that despite of the objectivity that is supposed to exist in Indonesian online news, in this research is Kompas.com, only subjectivity and bias can be seen from it. The bias and subjectivity stem from various aspects. Through propaganda model, this research finds out that those aspects are ownership, sponsorship, personal beliefs, and profit. Despite the fact that Kompas.com is supposed to be neutral, there is little neutrality in their articles, as their articles are generated based on the bias made by the aspects mentioned. Although this research only uses Kompas.com, Kompas.com becomes an example of how little objectivity Indonesian online news has. Being the source of information, it is expected to be objective and neutral. However, instead of being neutral, Indonesian online news is biased with certain factors affecting the way the news is written. Instead of having accurate and objective online news, it is written with bias and in non-neutral way.</em></p><p><strong>Keywords</strong>: <em>Kompas.com, CDA, propaganda model, bias</em></p><p>_________________________________________</p><p>DOI &gt; <a href="https://search.crossref.org/?q=10.24071%2Fjoll.2019.190204">https://doi.org/10.24071/joll.2019.190204</a></p><p><em><br /></em></p>

This article presents the findings of sentence characters in article introductions written by Indonesian authors in Applied Linguistics published in national accredited and international reputable journals. This study aimed to identify sentence characters in article introductions used by Indonesian authors in Applied Linguistics published in national accredited journals and reputable international journals. The method employed in this study was a mixed-method to describe and compare the data. This study’s total number of articles was forty from eight different journals. The results indicated that the average sentence lengths in terms of words number per sentence in the international reputable journals articles were 22.38 words, and those in national accredited journals articles were 21.84 words. Also, the results revealed that the most commonly used sentence pattern in both groups of articles was complex sentences, with 414 sentences in national journals and 378 in international journals. It is followed by simple, compound-complex, and compound sentences. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Indonesian authors from both groups prefer to use long words and use complex sentences more often than the other sentence patterns. Hence, there is no important difference in sentence characters between national accredited and international reputable journals.

Boosters, defined as linguistic devices (e.g. certainly) used by writers to indicate full commitment to the truth value of a proposition, has received little attention from applied linguists, despite their persuasive power in research writing. The present study investigated the effects of the two variables of sociocultural context and discipline on the frequency of use of boosters in research articles. A specialized corpus of 104 research articles published between 2007 and 2010 taken from applied linguistics and chemistry written in English and Indonesian by the respective native speaker scholars were quantitatively analyzed using 2 x 2 Factorial ANOVA. The results showed that there was a significant main effect of sociocultural context, F (1, 100) = 44,34, p <0,05, ŋ2 = 0,307, a significant main effect of discipline, F (1,100) = 19,16, p < 0,05, ŋ2 = 0,161, and a significant interaction between sociocultural context and discipline, F (1,100) = 6,90, p < 0,05, ŋ2 = 0,065. However, the within-sociocultural context simple effects analysis revealed that English applied linguistics and chemistry research articles were not significantly different from each other, F (1,101) = 1,07, n.s. suggesting that, discipline might not be a decisive factor that influences boosting usage in research articles. These results indicate that the two variables (sociocultural context and discipline) exerted unequal influence upon boosting practices in research articles. The differential characteristics of the two sociocultural contexts are offered as explanations to account for the differential boosting practices of English and Indonesian research articles.

Plagiarism has repeatedly occurred in Indonesia, resulting from focusing on such academic misbehavior as a “central issue” in Indonesian higher education. One of the issues of addressing plagiarism in higher education is that there is a confusion of defining plagiarism. It seems that Indonesian academicians had different perception when defining plagiarism. This article aims at exploring the issue of plagiarism by helping define plagiarism to address confusion among Indonesian academics. This article applies literature review by first finding relevant articles after identifying databases for literature searching. After the collection of required articles for review, the articles were synthesized before presenting the findings. This study has explored the definition of plagiarism in the context of higher education. This research found that plagiarism is defined in the relation of criminal acts. The huge numbers of discursive features used position plagiaristic acts as an illegal deed. This study also found that cultural backgrounds and exposure to plagiarism were influential in defining plagiarism.

Writing an introduction section of a research article usually requires the interpersonal voice and arguments for building up a sense of persuasiveness that will entice readers. A quality research article introduction can be achieved by using appraisal resources to represent the writers’ ideas and propositions effectively. Using twenty introduction sections of research articles written in English by Indonesian and Chinese writers as non-native writers, this study examines the use of appraisal resources and compares their distributions. By employing textual analysis and using Appraisal resources theory drawn from the work of Martin and White (2005), the findings reveal that there are both similarities and differences in the distribution of appraisal resources between Indonesian and Chinese writers in the introduction sections of research articles. In terms of similarities, both Indonesian and Chinese writers use attitude (appreciation), expand (engagement), and force (graduation) as the most used appraisal resources in their writing. What is different, however, is that the Indonesian writers seem more likely than Chinese writers to use appraisal resources overall, except for graduation resources, which were used more often by the Chinese writers. This article discusses some of the pedagogical implications for those who are teaching students of English as a foreign language and want to improve and strengthen their voice and arguments in the writing of research article introductions.

Authorship attribution is a method for identifying the author of a text from a group of potential authors and can solve the anonymity of unknown authors. Such method threatens anyone’s privacy, especially those who wish to write anonymously. To address this issue, author obfuscation is proposed to modify a text to disguise its author. In this research, a genetic algorithm-based author obfuscation model was created to modify Indonesian news articles to avoid identification from authorship attribution while keeping its semantics. The model iteratively changed some words in the article using crossover and mutation techniques guided by a fitness function which involve identification probability and similarity to the original article. The model is evaluated based on safety, soundness, and sensibleness parameter. The model has good safety since it can reduce the given authorship attribution model's accuracy by 0.3018 but drops to 0.1179 when tested on different models. Its soundness is pretty good since the similarity of the modified to the original articles reaches 0.7817. The model obtained a score of 2.571 on a scale of 0 to 4 in terms of sensibleness which indicates that some articles are acceptable in terms of grammar, but not a few are messy.

Bibliometric indicators originally counted ways to measure research quality. This endured for decades following the term's introduction. The purpose of this research is to carry out a bibliometric analysis of the present status and trends in computer science articles written by Indonesian authors that are included in the Scopus database. Bibliographic indicators were analyzed using SciVal (www.scival.com). Elsevier constructed SciVal using Collexis' semantic technology after buying it in 2010. SciVal evaluates scientific performance using Scopus and tracks funding. Between the years 1998 and 2022, the total number of indexed papers in Scopus that discuss the advancement of research outcomes in computer science has greatly expanded. This rise reached its highest point in 2019, with 121 publications. Santoso is the most prolific Indonesian researcher when it comes to releasing research results on computer science in Indonesia. This research attempts to describe the rhetorical structures of Indonesian author's in the conclusion section of applied linguistics international journals articles. The method employed in this study is descriptive quantitative. Thirty RA conclusion sections were extracted from two international journals; the Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics (IJAL) and TEFLIN journal, and examined based on the rhetorical move following Yang & Allison's proposed model of conclusion section (2003). The result revealed that, first, the majority of RA Conclusion sections (22 [73%] out of 30 conclusion sections) contain all elements of the Conclusion sections outlined by Yang and Allison (2003), namely: obligatory; move 1 (summarizing the study), the conventional moves; move 2 (Evaluating the study) and move 3 (deduction from the research); second, concerning steps features, most Indonesian authors tend to use step 1 in realizing move 2 (evaluating the study) This implies that those authors tend to justify their study by indicating the result of the research in evaluating the study in the conclusion section rather than stating the limitation of the research or evaluating the methodology in the conclusion section. In move 3, the Indonesian author tends to use step 1 (recommending future research) in realizing this move. This implies that the author prefers to state the possible areas for future study of study rather than drawing pedagogic implications. In conclusion, most Indonesian authors fulfilled the rhetorical structure of yang and Allison proposed model in their conclusion section.

This study is aimed at investigating how Indonesian writers in multidiscipline use reporting verbs (henceforth RVs) and reporting signals (henceforth RSs) in their research article introductions in English. Fifty research articles (henceforth RAs) were chosen on purpose from the recent edition of five different English language journals in Multi-disciplines published in Indonesia (i.e., 10 from Applied Linguistics, 10 from Medicine, 10 from Animal Husbandry, 10 from Engineering and Technology, and 10 from Geography). The results reveal that the most frequent groups of RV found in the RA introductions are SHOW and ARGUE groups; while the most frequent RS is Reporting Noun. It is also found that Indonesian writers in the data of this research tend to use RVs in Present and Past Tense. These findings are similar to those of previous studies where there is no important difference between English native and non-native speakers in using RVs in their RAs. This implies that Indonesian writers of the articles used in this study have used RVs in a similar way to English native speakers. This is because the RAs used in this research were taken from reputable international journals indexed by Scopus and/or Web of Science.

<p>The development of science and technology affects the language field. The main influence of this development is the appearance of a lot of new vocabulary related to science and technology matter. It can’t be ignored that English is widely spread and used in describing things for example in social media, electronic stuff, e-commerce, aviation, the science and technology field, etc. As the result, some English vocabulary has been borrowed to explain things that there is no suitable or provided word in Indonesian. Borrowing words can cause the problems such as spelling and pronouncing whether in Indonesian or English. Some English words have been taken to the Indonesian dictionary by following EYD. However, people may tend to know the English version of borrowing words rather than the Indonesian (EYD) especially the IT people. But, they might don’t know that there is a possibility of a shift in the meaning. To figure out this problem, this research aims to know (1) the English borrowing words and their meanings in some Indonesian informatics engineering articles (2) the types of English borrowing words used in some Indonesian informatics engineering articles. Freudenthal's ideas on mathematics that stated mathematics as a human activity and mathematics must be connected to reality have colored towards learning mathematics all over the world, including Indonesia. Existing research on this topic in Indonesia among two decades is categorized and compared. This paper presents a systematic literature review of empirical studies on this learning approach in Indonesian context. The implementation of this approach in Indonesia was analyzed comprehensively and divided into several major topics. Resources of this research come from 110 articles by ten highest rank accredited journals by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, the Republic of Indonesia as an achievement for the peer-reviewed journal, which has excellent quality in management and publication. The results show that there are seven categories summarized in this research: the dominance of published RME articles, RME research subjects, mathematical topics, students' abilities, RME terms, and the research method used in RME articles. Lastly, the summarized 110 papers are displayed in the table to give essential information as a fundamental idea for further RME research.

The current research aimed at investigating the authorial identity through explicit self-mention markers (I, me, my, we, us, and our) in English research articles written by Indonesian authors. For this purpose, we employed a mix-methods research design consisting of two analysis phases. First, the quantitative analysis was represented by analyzing the frequency of self-mention markers in the corpus of 200 linguistics and applied linguistics research articles using the corpus tool AntConc ver. 3.9.5 (Anthony, 2020). The corpus was compiled from ten journals indexed in SINTA 1 and 2 in the latest five years (2017-2021). Second, the qualitative phase was represented by concordance analysis to interpret the discourse function of self-mention markers in use. We refer to Hyland's taxonomy (Hyland, 2002). Our findings have discovered that Indonesian authors use self-mention in various functions. This research shows the novice authors the extent to which authors can exploit self-mention markers in English research articles and how expert authors in reputable national journals use self mention markers to obtain essential functions to mark their authorial identity. Thus, this research is expected to add insight to EAP/ESL courses to encourage novice writers to construct and represent their identity in conveying their arguments firmly using these self-mentions markers.

In learning English as foreign language, Indonesian learners may produce errors since the structure of their first language is different with the English as the foreign language. Errors also exist when they use articles in English. The objective of the research is to know students’ understanding in using articles. Besides, this research also aims to know what type of error mostly appears in students’ writing. This research is a descriptive research combined with error analysis methodology using Surface Strategy Taxonomy. The research participants were 90 students of Bina Sarana Informatika University majoring Communication Science. The result shows that most of the students have some difficulties in using articles. The most common errors made by students are omission errors. Whereas, the second most common errors which appear in students’ writing is addition error which number is not much different with misformation errors. The least type of error which exists in students’ writing is misordering error.

Considerable work on contrastive text analysis of abstracts has been conducted between English and other languages to explore the uniqueness between them. However, as far as methodology and language pair are concerned, there remains a paucity of research between English and Indonesian abstracts, and, in particular, in the usage of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) for the purposes of translation. Using annotated and manually collated comparable corpora of abstracts collected from English and Indonesian academic articles (Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies-ANU and DINAMIKA-UNES), this study aims to contrast textual profiles of English and Indonesian abstracts in the field of economics. Based on the results of the analysis on the three metafunction in language at the stratum of lexico- grammar, this study suggests that marked differences between the comparable corpora of English and Indonesian abstracts are in the experiential and textual meanings. The implication of this study is that abstract translators from Indonesian into English need to pay a closer attention to the two metafunction in order to attempt an acceptable English translation.

This research is entitled Juridical Review of Name Loan Agreement (Nominee) in Ownership of Land in Indonesia. This research aims to find out (1) a juridical review of ownership rights over land of foreign citizens in investment activities in Indonesia and (2) the legal status or consequences of foreign citizens in investing in Indonesia. The problem in this research is the inequality between ideality and reality. There are still many practices of controlling ownership of land by foreign citizens through Nominee Agreements using the guise of Indonesian citizens so that it seems as if they do not violate the law. Even this action was legalized by the Notary/PPAT who in fact clearly understood the applicable law. This study uses a normative juridical approach. The method used in data processing and data analysis used in this study is a qualitative method, which is a descriptive analytical data analysis method that refers to a particular problem or is based on applicable laws and regulations. The results of this study indicate that the making of deeds made by notaries regarding land sale and purchase by borrowing name or nominee agrement is null and void for the sake of law this violates the Civil Code articles 1335 and 1337 of the Civil Code and article 33 paragraph (3) of the 1945 Constitution and Article 21 paragraph (1) and 26 paragraphs (20 UUPA, also violate the rights of the Indonesian people over Indonesian territory. that is, a descriptive analytical data analysis method that refers to a particular problem or is based on the prevailing laws and regulations. The Indonesian e-Government index for 2020 is internationally ranked 88, up 19 points from the previous ranking of 107 in 2018. This increase results from e-Government implementing agencies and an increase in public participation and contributions from research institutions. It always contributes to e-Government issues theoretically and practically. The results of studies related to the implementation of e-Government are also needed to answer the current problems and become a reference of e-Government development following Indonesian conditions. This study explores the studies that have been carried out during the last five years using the perspective of Indonesia's e-Government Ranking (PeGI), namely the dimensions of policy, institutional, application, infrastructure, and planning. The study used a literature review method with data sources obtained on the Garuda Ristek portal BRIN-Indonesian Publication Index. The number of articles collected was 45 articles which were then grouped based on the PeGI dimension, research methods, and types of e-Government relations. The results show that the perspective of the dimensions of the Indonesian e-Government Ranking can be a reference to see a picture of the conditions of e-Government implementation and the influencing factors. Furthermore, studies related to e-government issues can provide input information and recommendations for solutions to e-Government administrators. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the number of studies on e-Government in Indonesia supported by the government and related institutions to improve the quality of Indonesian e-Government.

Authorial stance is an important aspect in academic texts in academic texts such as research articles (RAs); that is to show the attitude of authors toward the information cited in a reference in order to establish an argument. The objective of this research was to investigate the authorial stances in English RA introductions written by Indonesia authors in the field of sciences (i.e. Biology, Physic and Chemistry). This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. Thirty English research article introductions were included in the corpus in this study. The results show that two authorial stances: neutral and positive stances are found in the texts but no critical stance is used in the corpus of this research. Also, four types of authorial stance (i.e., hedges, booster, attitudinal markers, and self- mention) are used in the RA introductions and the devices in each type of authorial stance are nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives and modals. Self-mentions found in this research are subjective pronoun, common noun and possessive adjectives. It can be concluded that Indonesian authors in the field of sciences already use similar types of authorial stances in their English RA introductions to those of international authors writing in English.

This study departs from an observational study of sustainable tourism research articles published in the Indonesia tourism journals, which was analyzed by content analysis. This study aims to get a complete picture of what and how the manifestation of sustainable tourism research articles in Indonesia has been carried out, especially in methods and its applications. The authors found that tourism journals only occupied a small fraction (0.43%). Twenty-six tourism journals and 304 articles were identified. This study found that most methods used by sustainable tourism researchers generally replicate existing methods; there has been rarely development and or innovation of research methods. Qualitative research far outperforms quantitative and mixed methods, where descriptive qualitative research is the most significant. The application of the study is relatively evenly distributed on the dimensions of sustainable tourism and geographic area, but less on stakeholders and management functions. The authors conclude that the trend of sustainable tourism research published in Indonesian tourism journals is increasing. Tourism researchers are scattered from various parts of Indonesia, but tourism journals in Indonesia have not been able to attracted significant interest of the international research community yet. There has never been an assessment of the journal's methods and applications for sustainable tourism research in Indonesia. Therefore, this paper is beneficial as a reference for sustainable tourism researchers in the future.
