The aim of the article is to propose ways to increase the functioning efficiency of the newly created workplace with regard to the course of the processes themselves, as well as of the working conditions of the affected employees in the selected company, dealing with the production of refrigeration and air conditioning units for automobiles. The automotive market is primarily customer-oriented, to which companies strive to meet and deliver high-quality products that are different from their competition. To ensure this goal, it is necessary to acquire theoretical knowledge in the field of organization and structure of the production process. It is also necessary to analyse problematic points of the newly created working zone on the basis of observations and interviews with employees. The essence of streamlining the workplace and improving the working conditions of employees lies in the identification, analysis and elimination of shortcomings, that have arisen mainly due to dynamic changes and rapid implementation of the working zone in the corner of the production hall. Based on the identified deficiencies, the authors of the paper have proposed corrective actions and have analysed the results of the improved condition.

ABSTRACT Social work represents an applied profession and academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, empowerment and emancipation of individuals. This paper aimed to gain an insight into the perspective of social workers on working conditions and social attitudes towards the profession, with recommendations from professionals for advancing its current position. The thematic analysis was applied within a qualitative research framework. Research results indicated negative perceptions on working conditions among research participants – social workers in Croatia – pinpointing issues, such as financial insecurity, understaffing, inadequate office space, shortage of business vehicles for field visits, an excessive scope of work and administrative burden, disrespect for social workers’ dignity, and difficulties in establishing cooperation with service users. Social workers’ recommendations for addressing these issues concerned: improving working conditions (amendments to the legal framework, employment of professional staff and professional training), improving workplace security (reinforcing the public official status and increasing security staff), and promoting the social work profession, involving enhanced media relations, consistent communication and raising public awareness through best practices from the organisations and institutions in the system. Special education teachers (SETs) are expected to use effective practices to improve outcomes for students with disabilities, yet even those who are well-prepared may not be effective in teaching these students, as problematic working conditions may limit their opportunities to teach effectively and their longevity in the profession. To complicate matters, the context of SETs’ work has changed, calling into question the nature of their roles in supporting student learning. The purpose of this article is to provide a broad overview of what is known about working conditions and to articulate how we might improve them. The authors identify key themes from the research literature about the relationship of SETs’ working conditions to their early experiences in schools and their burnout, attrition, and effectiveness. The authors then outline an action agenda focused on researching and leveraging the roles of varied stakeholders, teacher educators, educational leaders, and professional organizations to improve these conditions.

The paper focuses on results of substantiating and selecting informative physiological criteria that can be used for assessing and controlling functional state and working conditions category taking into account physical and nervous-emotional loads borne by CNC- machinery operators. Basing on complex physiological and ergonomic studies and retrospective data analysis, we showed that workers from various occupational groups who dealt with physical labor had to face certain strain over a working shift. Such strains, given long-term working experience, could result in neuromuscular system overstrain and occupational diseases occurrence. We substantiated and developed informative physiological criteria that allowed assessing and controlling functional state and working capacity as well as working conditions category taking into account occupational activities. The present research involved using a set of occupational studies, physiological and ergonomic procedures as well as clinical and statistic ones for examining peculiarities related to functional state of workers’ bodies under exposure to occupational factors taking into account specific working tasks and loads. It allowed us to substantiate labor intensity assessment. Our research results revealed that there was a strong correlation between hand muscles endurance to static exertion (decrease in % by the end of a work shift) and working conditions category given local and overall muscular loads borne by workers. This criterion is recommended for control over functional state and working capacity taking into account occupational peculiarities and gender-related differences. It is necessary to accumulate scientific data for confirming a similar correlation between overall physical working capacity (OPWC) and working conditions category. Results obtained via physiological research were used for developing prevention activities for workers.

The article deals with the problems of increasing the economic efficiency of agricultural enterprises by improving working conditions, reducing the level of exposure to harmful and dangerous production factors. The purpose of the article is to analyze methodological approaches to forecasting possible economic losses of agricultural enterprises due to the presence of harmful or dangerous working conditions and to develop organizational and management solutions to reduce these losses. Economic services of agricultural enterprises need to have a methodology for assessing real economic losses due to unfavorable working conditions at enterprises, which will give employers an understanding that the costs of labor protection and safety not only pay off, but also give a significant economic effect and contribute to improving the profitability of production and allow them to make informed management decisions. It is shown that forecasting economic damage from occupational diseases and industrial injuries, accidents is a complex task, but it is quite solvable on the basis of the procedure for assessing and managing occupational risks and applying known patterns of crop losses or animal productivity due to violations of agrotechnical deadlines or animal maintenance regime due to the absence of an injured employee at the workplace.

Background The charter school movement relies on teachers as critical components. Teacher commitment is an important aspect of teachers’ lives, because it is an internal force for teachers to grow as professionals. It is also considered one of the crucial factors in influencing various educational outcomes, including teacher effectiveness, teacher retention, and student learning. However, no empirical studies have examined teacher commitment in charter schools. Purpose To address this knowledge gap, this study compares organizational and professional commitment of teachers in charter schools and traditional public schools (TPSs) and explores how these differences are associated with teachers’ characteristics, school contextual factors, and working conditions in the two types of schools. Research Design This study utilizes quantitative analyses of national data from the 2007– 2008 School and Staffing Survey. Hierarchical linear models were developed to examine whether teacher commitment differs between charter schools and TPSs; how teacher characteristics, school contextual factors, and teachers’ perceptions of working conditions contribute to the difference; and finally, whether these variables differentially influence teacher commitment in charter schools and TPSs. Conclusions On average, teachers in charter schools experienced lower levels of organizational commitment than teachers in TPSs, but similar levels of professional commitment. Teacher working conditions explained a large amount of the variance in between-school teacher commitment, suggesting that improving principal leadership, increasing opportunities for professional development, and alleviating teachers’ workload would be effective ways to promote teacher commitment in charter schools.

Life and ROP of PDC bits are improved greatly when rotational impact drill assemblies (TorkBuster) are used in hard rock formations. The transient drilling processes of PDC bits combined with and without TorkBuster are simulated based on ANSYS software when drilling in densify sandstone formations. Simulated results are compared. It’s found that the torsion angle of the drill pipe is lessened greatly when torsional impact is loaded with same bit pressure and torque as that without torsional impact. Torsional impact reduces accumulated energy stored in the drill pipe, relieves stick-slip vibration and improves working conditions of PDC bits greatly.

The purpose of the article is to identify areas for improving staff motivation in the field of public catering. Achievement of this goal involves the solution of the following tasks: to carry out a theoretical analysis of existing methodological approaches to understanding staff motivation in the field of public catering; to study the systems of motivation of personnel working in the field of public catering on the example of several restaurants in Moscow; identify motivation problems and develop directions for improving the motivation of personnel working in the field of public catering. The relevance of the topic of the article is due to the fact that at present the overall success of a public catering enterprise largely depends on how effectively each individual employee works. To achieve high performance indicators of personnel, it is necessary to create the necessary conditions that form labor motivation, maximally conducive to high labor achievements. The personnel, satisfied with the working conditions, the level of remuneration, the psychological environment at work, is the main component of the success of the catering enterprise, which can greatly increase its efficiency. The practical significance of the article lies in the study of modern aspects of labor motivation and the development of directions for improving staff motivation in the field of public catering.

The article summarizes the results of studying the influence of harmful production factors on the fatigue of agricultural workers and labor productivity. The purpose of the study: to determine the possibilities of improving work efficiency and productivity by improving the sanitary and hygienic conditions in the workplace. The relevance of the work is determined by the fact that in the coming years, we can expect an increase in labor productivity of no more than 3% at a given 5-6%, which requires a search for options for changing the trend. The research methodology is based on the study of published works and the identification of the degree of influence of harmful factors in the workplace on human performance and labor productivity. In conclusion, we offer options for solving the problem. The first is to bring jobs to regulatory requirements by known methods, which in most cases does not require significant financial costs, but will significantly affect the growth of labor productivity, bringing this figure to 7%. The second is the exclusion of a person from the zone of harmful factors due to remote control systems with instrument control and video surveillance of technological processes, full automation of production processes and the transition to neural network control systems, robotics.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to explore the contributions of decent work situation to work–life balance of small entrepreneurs. The survey was conducted to uncover the degree and magnitude of essential decent work indicators that can aid the work–life balance situation of small ventures. Design/methodology/approach The study utilized a survey research design and used a five-point Likert type questionnaire to investigate the research questions. Each construct of the scale has its corresponding items, which were measured specifically. To analyze the latent variables, partial least square (PLS)–structural equation modelling with Smart PLS application was used. Findings The findings of this study reveal that social dialogue and stability and security of enterprise have the most significant effects in ensuring work–life balance of an enterprise. Additionally, social dialogue among entrepreneurs has influence in maintaining decent working hours and fair treatment at workplace. Originality/value The value of this study lies in exploring a new dimension of analyzing working conditions in informal sector economy such as small enterprises. Because this research aims to study ventures that are financed by the microcredit institution, whether social financing plays a role in improving work–life balance situation through empowering decent working conditions can be investigated.

Abstract The paper presents a practical example of improving quality and occupational safety on automated casting lines. Working conditions on the line of box moulding with horizontal mould split were analysed due to low degree of automation at the stage of cores or filters installation as well as spheroidizing mortar dosing. A simulation analysis was carried out, which was related to the grounds of introducing an automatic mortar dispenser to the mould. To carry out the research, a simulation model of a line in universal Arena software for modelling and simulation of manufacturing systems by Rockwell Software Inc. was created. A simulation experiment was carried out on a model in order to determine basic parameters of the working system. Organization and working conditions in other sections of the line were also analysed, paying particular attention to quality, ergonomics and occupational safety. Ergonomics analysis was carried out on manual cores installation workplace and filters installation workplace, and changes to these workplaces were suggested in order to eliminate actions being unnecessary and onerous for employees.

Evidence on the effectiveness of workplace interventions for improving working conditions on the health and wellbeing of fathers is scarce. We reviewed studies on the effectiveness of various workplace interventions designed to improve working conditions for the health and wellbeing of employed fathers and their families. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-randomized controlled trials of workplace interventions applied to employees with the aim of improving working conditions of employed parents, compared with no intervention, other active arms, placebo, wait list, or usual practice were included. Studies involving only women were excluded. An electronic search of the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, ERIC and SSCI was done for eligible studies. Studies were screened against predetermined criteria and assessment of risk of bias done using the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions for RCTs and the Risk of Bias Assessment tool for Non-randomized Studies for non-RCTs. Of the 8229 records identified, 19 reports were included in this review: 14 reports from five RCTs and five reports from two quasi-RCT studies. The studies were conducted in four different countries among working populations from various sectors. Studies addressing issues related to improving working conditions of fathers alone were lacking. All included studies assessed intervention effects on various health-related outcomes, the most common being sleep disturbances and mental health outcomes. Interventions administered yielded positive effects on various health outcomes across all seven studies. All included studies had methodological limitations, while study designs and methodologies lacked comparability. Consequently, a narrative synthesis of evidence is provided. Based on our findings, providing workplace interventions for improving working conditions may improve some aspects of the health and wellbeing of employed parents, including fathers.

In order to study the frictional lubrication characteristics of a piston pump under varying loads and speeds in actual work, mathematical models, such as a cylinder dynamics model, cylinder micro-motion model, and external return spherical bearing pair lubrication model, were established under full working conditions. The influence of different parameters on the lubrication characteristics of the external return mechanism under full working conditions was analyzed. The results show that in a working cycle, when the pump was at low working pressure, the maximum value of the maximum oil film pressure increased with an increase in the cylinder block speed, which is basically consistent with the ideal conditions. With an increase in the working pressure, the maximum value first decreased and then increased with an increase in the cylinder block speed. When the cylinder block speed was constant, the total friction power increased with an increase in the working pressure and the internal as well as external swash plates’ inclination; considering the contact surface roughness of a friction pair under full working conditions, the total friction power increased by 46.8% compared with the ideal working conditions. The axial leakage flow increased with an increase in the external swash plate inclination and remained unchanged with an increase in the internal swash plate inclination. This research is beneficial for improving the lubrication theory of the external return mechanism and lays a foundation for improving its working performance.

On the basis of the analysis of the existing criteria of hydraulic similarity, the rules of transferring the results of laboratory tests of jet pumps to the conditions of their operation in the well are considered. The geometric similarity of the flow part of the jet pump is determined by the diameters of the working nozzle, the mixing chamber and the diffuser, the lengths of the mixing chamber and the diffuser, and the distance between the working nozzle and the mixing chamber. The kinematic similarity of mixed flows is determined by the ratio of the speeds or costs of the injected and the workflows, and the dynamic one by the relative pressure in the form of the pressure ratio of the mixed, injected and workflows. To characterize the similarity of motion modes and physical properties of flows in the flowing portion of a jet pump, a Reynolds number for working, injected, and mixed flows can be used. The functional relationship between the quantities that characterize the process of mixing threads can be represented as a relationship between the similarity criteria that are made of them. The equality of any two relevant similarity criteria made up of the basic parameters and initial boundary conditions is a sufficient sign of the similarity of the two systems. A generalized Eulerian criterion is proposed for modeling a wellbore jet pump workflow that provides a relationship between geometric, kinematic, and dynamic dimensionless complexes. Due to the structural features of the ejection systems, the generalized criterion is presented in the form of a ratio of Euler criteria of mixed and working flows, the numerical values of which do not differ from the magnitude of the relative pressure of the jet pump. As a result of the conducted researches, the values of dimensionless complexes are determined, which determine the conditions for transferring the results of experimental studies of the jet pump model to the real design of the well ejection system.

The article includes research results for the functional properties achieved for a wide range of sintered tool materials, including sintered carbides, cermets and three types of Al2O3 oxide tool ceramics ((Al2O3 + ZrO2, Al2O3 + TiC and Al2O3 + SiC(w)) with (Ti,Al)N coating deposited in the cathodic arc evaporation (CAE-PVD) method and comparison with uncoated tool materials. For all coated samples, a uniform wear pattern on tool shank was observed during metallographic analysis. Based on the scanning electron microscope (SEM) metallographic analysis, it was found that the most common types of tribological defects identified in tested materials are: mechanical defects and abrasive wear of the tool side, crater formation on the tool face, cracks on the tool side, chipping on the cutting edge and built-up edge from chip fragments. Deposition of (Ti,Al)N coating on all tested substrates increases the wear resistance and also limits the exceeding of critical levels of permanent stresses. It even increases the tool life many times over. Such a significant increase in tool life results, among other things, from a large increase in microhardness of PVD coated materials compared to uncoated samples, increased resistance to thermal and chemical abrasion, improved chip formation and removal process conditions. Use of hard coatings applied to sintered tool materials is considered to be one of the most important achievements in improving the functional properties of cutting tools and can still be developed by improving the coating structure solutions (sorted and nanocrystalline structures) and extending the range of coating applications (Ti,Al)N in a variety of substrates.

Food workers’ health and hygiene are common pathways to foodborne disease outbreaks. Improving food system jobs is important to food safety because working conditions impact workers’ health, hygiene, and safe food handling. Stakeholders from key industries have advanced working conditions as an issue of public safety in the United States. Yet, for the food industry, stakeholder engagement with this topic is seemingly limited. To understand this lack of action, we interviewed key informants from organizations recognized for their agenda-setting role on food-worker issues. Findings suggest that participants recognize the work standards/food safety connection, yet perceived barriers limit adoption of a food safety frame, including more pressing priorities (e.g., occupational safety); poor fit with organizational strategies and mission; and questionable utility, including potential negative consequences. Using these findings, we consider how public health advocates may connect food working conditions to food and public safety and elevate it to the public policy agenda.
