Sedimentation causes land accretion, silting river water, lagoon, and mangrove degradation. The current study aims to analyze the potential and the impact of sedimentation toward the potential of the lagoon and mangrove ecosystem in Segara Anakan Lagoon. The research methods used mapping analysis, total suspended solid analysis (TSS), sedimentation rate analysis, biodiversity analysis, and mangrove covering. The result showed that (1) the value of TSS between 0.25-1,16 g L-1 (2) sediment flux between 6,8 - 257,7 g m-2s-1 (3) annual rate of sedimentation in West Segara Anakan Lagoon (W-SAL) between 13.82 – 15.49 m yr-1. (4) The effects of sedimentation were (a) the remaining lagoon of West Segara Anakan Lagoon (W-SAL) which was 1.200 ha, (b) land accretion in W-SAL between 27.24 – 160.18 m (1994 – 2003) and 20.91 – 107.55 m (2003 2014), (c) the remaining mangrove of SAL less than 2594 ha (d) the mangrove diversity ranged between 0.48 – 1.71 (low – moderate), (e) the mangrove density of trees were 46 - 205 trees ha-1 (degraded) (5) mangrove landscape was developed to reduce the impact of sedimentation, especially the first zone of mangrove landscaping was dominated by Aegiceras Floridum, Avicennia Alba, Avicennia Marina, Sonneratia Caseolaris, and Sonneratia alba.

In-sewer defects are directly responsible for affecting the performance of sewer systems. Notwithstanding the impact of the condition of the assets on serviceability, sewer performance is usually assessed assuming the absence of in-sewer defects. This leads to an overestimation of serviceability. This paper presents the results of a study in two research catchments on the impact of in-sewer defects on urban pluvial flooding at network level. Impacts are assessed using Monte Carlo simulations with a full hydrodynamic model of the sewer system. The studied defects include root intrusion, surface damage, attached and settled deposits, and sedimentation. These defects are based on field observations and translated to two model parameters (roughness and sedimentation). The calculation results demonstrate that the return period of flooding, number of flooded locations and flooded volumes are substantially affected by in-sewer defects. Irrespective of the type of sewer system, the impact of sedimentation is much larger than the impact of roughness. Further research will focus on comparing calculated and measured behaviour in one of the research catchments.

In this study, an integrated coastal process model was applied to assess impact of coastal flooding and sedimentation in an estuary in Taiwan and to evaluate performance of proposed engineering plans for flood prevention and sedimentation management. This in-situ validated model was used to simulate and predict hydrodynamic processes and morphological changes induced by multiple hydrological forcing such as river flood flows, waves, tides, and storms surges from rivers to the estuary and its adjacent coasts. Simulation results quantified coastal flooding risks, erosions, sedimentation, and channel refilling. Predicted dynamic responses to typhoons and monsoons were utilized for identifying the most effective engineering plan to reshape the geometry of the estuary. After the selected engineering plan was accomplished, this model was applied again to further predict morphological changes in the newly-developed estuary. This paper demonstrates effectiveness of a simulation-based coastal and estuary planning approach to manage flood and sedimentation driven by complex physical processes from river flows, waves, tides, and sediment transport.

AbstractThe paper presents the results of analysis concerning the impact of temperature on sedimentation in the caustic soda solution that constitute a contamination after the process of cleaning utensils and pipes for hopped wort transport in the brewery. The solution was collected from the production plant after the process of cleaning and subjected to 12-hour sedimentation and changes of the solid particles participation, their size and percentage share in the solution was determined. The study was carried out with the Shadow Sizing method. The results were subjected to statistical analysis and the surface area of the response of the relation between the time and temperature of sedimentation and the number of particles which stay in the solution was calculated. The research results proved that the temperature significantly affects the cleaning degree of solutions by sedimentation and its duration. After sedimentation in solutions, particles with the surface area from 0.001-0.003 mm2 remain. Those particles are not subject to sedimentation and constitute a coloidal suspension in the solution.

The recent change in Brazilian laws reduced the amount of area that is set aside for native vegetation restoration in rural private properties. However, we lack estimates of its impacts on the provisioning of key ecosystem services at local scales. Therefore, in a microwatershed in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest hot spot, we quantified the impact of the change from the Forest Code (1965) to the Native Vegetation Protection Law in Brazil (2012) on future native forest cover, biomass carbon stocks, and soil loss and sedimentation. We analyzed three scenarios: (a) the land use and cover as of 2016, (b) the Forest Code, 1965, and (c) the Native Vegetation Protection Law, 2012. In each scenario, we modeled soil loss and sedimentation (InVEST, Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) and calculated the carbon stocks. The 2012 law implementation would increase forest cover (15.6%), decrease soil sedimentation (1.12%) and loss (1.13%), and increase carbon stock (5.4%). However, compared to the Forest Code, it would reduce the area for restoration and the potential for native forest cover growth, increase soil loss and sedimentation potential, and limit increases in carbon stocks at the landscape level. In both restoration scenarios, the potential percent increase in forest cover in the microwatershed owing to the laws is higher than the percent decrease in soil loss and sedimentation. These findings have the potential to elucidate the effect of laws on ecosystem services and be useful to those planning the creation, modification, and implementation of laws for forest restoration in private properties.

Coagulation and flocculation processes are used to separate the suspended solids portion from water. However, coagulation–flocculation and sedimentation only are not sufficient in modern practices as nowadays every process is being viewed through an economic point of view. The present work aims to study the impact of pre-sedimentation on optimum coagulant dosage of raw water taken from a lake located at Tezpur University. Alum was used with the aim of determining its optimum doses at optimum pH and alkalinity. The influence of seasonal variation of pH and alkalinity on the coagulation dosages was studied and conditions were optimized corresponding to the best removal of turbidity. For raw and settled water the optimum alum dose obtained was 35–40 and 25–30 mg/L, respectively, clearly showing the impact of pre-sedimentation on optimization of alum dose and thereby economizing the water treatment process. Results indicated up to 98.67% removal of turbidity of water sample which had undergone pre-sedimentation process. A correlation has been developed between overall suspended solids removal and overall turbidity removal which can help in quickly estimating overall suspended solids removal using turbidity data.

Microgels are deformable polymer-networks with conspicuous properties. Their surface- activity associated with their switchability makes their application in liquid-liquid systems, such as extraction processes, particularly promising. For their application as switchable stabilizers at the interface, a detailed understanding of their impact on process relevant phenomena, such as the sedimentation behavior, is necessary. So far, the focus of research has been on microscopic-scale properties, whereby the propagation to macroscopic effects has rarely been quantified. In this study, single microgel-covered n-butyl acetate drops rising in a quiescent continuous water phase are investigated experimentally. The dependency of the microgel properties, in terms of size and cross-linking density, on the fluid dynamics are addressed. The impact of microgels is studied in detail by sedimentation velocity, drop deformation and the resulting drag coefficient. The deformation of drops is related to shape conserving interfacial properties such as the interfacial tension. Counter to our expectations, microgel-covered drops deform less than the drops of the pure system although microgels reduce the interfacial tension. Moreover, the sedimentation velocity is of special interest, since it reveals the mobility of the interface and friction conditions at the interface. Our results demonstrate the correlation between microgel properties at the interface on a microscopic scale and the macroscopic behavior of microgel-covered drops.

The Garang watershed which includes the Kreo River and the Kaligarang River is an ecosystem unit that is limited by topographical separators and functions as a collector, storage, and distributor of water, nutrients, and sediment through the river's hydrological system. Garang watershed plays an important role in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6 related to clean water, namely supplying drinking water raw materials in the city of Semarang experiencing environmental damage due to sedimentation common in river systems in Indonesia. Sedimentation occurs due to the deposition of fragmental material by water caused by erosion. Erosion consists of three phases, namely the release of soil particles and then transport by erosion agents (wind and water). Sediment deposition occurs which is influenced by natural and anthropogenic factors. The impact of sedimentation causes siltation which affects the decreasing capacity of river flow and decreases river water quality. This study aims to identify and analyze the existing conditions of the Kreo River and Kaligarang River related to the impact of sedimentation with qualitative descriptive methods and literature studies of previous studies. The Kreo River and Kaligarang River experience sedimentation due to suspended solids in the form of soil and sand mixed with household waste, resulting in decreased river flow and water quality. This is in line with the results of literature studies from previous studies, in 2008 sedimentation in the Kaligarang River was 124.944.13 tons/year with an erosion rate of 1,064.260.08 tons/ha/year. In 2009-2014 sedimentation in the Kreo River increased from 2,781 to 4,083 tons/year with an erosion rate of 17,827 - 26,171 tons. It can be concluded that the Kaligarang River and the Kreo River are currently experiencing increased sedimentation, so they are threatened with silting and damage to the river's natural functions.

ABSTRACT This study shows how the sedimentation process in reservoirs affects the yield-spill-evaporation losses in reservoirs of Ceará State, Brazilian Northeast. Reservoirs are assumed to have, initially, inverted conical shape. Three forms of sedimentation were investigated: type 1, with deposition occurring parallel to the wetted perimeter; type 2, deposition distributed proportionally to the water depth; and, type 3, deposition concentrated in the reservoir bottom. These sedimentation patterns were found in many reservoirs in Ceará, with capacity ranging from about 0.5 to 100 hm3. Nevertheless, type 2 pattern was the most frequent. In this paper, five large reservoirs, over 100 hm3, were studied using Monte Carlo approach, and considering the silting over the time horizon. It was found that sediment distribution can significantly affect the yield-spill-evaporation trade-off on large reservoirs. Type 1 results have the lowest impact on reservoir yield, followed by type 2 and type 3. For Cedro reservoir, the yield would go to zero in 2115, assuming a type 3 deposition pattern. These results reinforce the need for monitoring sedimentation in large reservoirs in the Brazilian semiarid region. In addition, this study provides a relatively simple methodology to predict the impact of siltation on reservoir yield-spill-evaporation relationships, for the three most found patterns of sedimentation.

Abstract The mechanical equilibrium of an orogenic wedge is maintained thanks to interactions between tectonic processes and surface processes. To better constrain the influence of erosion and sedimentation on the evolution of orogens, we performed a series of analogue models based on the tapered wedge principle, varying the amounts of erosion and sedimentation. The models develop by frontal accretion in the foreland basin and by simple underthrusting and subsequent underplating in the hinterland. The variations in rates of erosion and sedimentation strongly modify the extent, the morphology, the structures, the timing of development and the material paths in the different models. Under certain conditions, entire structural units can be formed and subsequently eroded out of the geological record, leading to important underestimations when restoring sections. Particles located in the converging lower-plate or in the upper-plate show complex uplift paths related to tectonic stages. The correlation between models and three Alpine tectonic cross-sections emphasizes the role of erosion and sedimentation on the dynamics and development of the orogen and adjacent Molasse basin. Along strike changes in the present structure of the orogen could be explained in part by differences in surface processes.

Forest soils are shaped by various processes, like runoff, erosion, sedimentation and bioturbation. A better understanding of the interactions between abiotic and biotic soil-forming processes, including wild boar (Sus scrofa) rooting (i.e., subsurface foraging), enhances adequate management of forest ecosystems. We hypothesized that intense soil sedimentation influences wild boar rooting occurrence and that wild boars modify the outcome of the sedimentation process by redistributing soil layers. This study was conducted in the Babat Valley, Hungary. We estimated the availability of sedimented and non-sedimented patches and the occurrence of boar rooting. Surveys and samplings were done along transects, over consecutive months, where the impact of rooting on the physical and chemical characteristics of soil was measured by comparing them between control and rooted sites. We found that non-sedimented, steep areas were preferred areas for rooting. Sedimentation processes have a higher impact on soil chemical characteristics and soil layer composition than wild boar rooting. We conclude that mitigation of soil degradation can be more effective by reducing adverse abiotic processes rather than wild boar population control.

This study was designed to test the hypothesis that pre-analytical treatment of relatively fragile cells is more important for their viability and function than shear forces and decompression shocks on a flow cytometric sorter. Human neutrophils were enriched using different techniques (sedimentation, hypotonic or ammonium chloride-mediated erythrocyte lysis) and their function was evaluated by measuring their capability of mounting oxidative burst. In contrast to other isolation techniques, neutrophils enriched by spontaneous sedimentation were found to be intact both in terms of their function and relative numbers within the leukocyte population; such preparations were thus run on a FACSAria cell sorter using 70, 85 and 100 µm nozzles and the corresponding internal pressure values. The viability and function of sorted neutrophils with or without subsequent cultivation were re-evaluated using phagocytosis assays. Independent of the nozzle size and internal sorter pressure, the capability of neutrophils of responding to E. coli stimulation was impaired after sorting while phorbol myristate acetate stimulation remained intact. In tested samples, only 20 h incubation of sorted cells confirmed the expected influence of the nozzle size on the sorted cell function. We conclude that pre-analytical treatment is more important for cell function than conditions during sorting.

Abstract This paper presents results of a study of sedimentation in Colesbukta (Isfjorden, Spitsbergen), a typical example of sedimentation in a shallow bay of the Svalbard Archipelago. We have examined sediment samples from several cores collected in Colesbukta in May 2018. To meet the goals of this study, geomorphological features of the Colesbukta catchment area have been identified and described. The lithological characteristics of bottom sediments from the study area have been described and their spatial and temporal changes analyzed. The chronology of sedimentation has been reconstructed by 210Pb and 137Cs. We have calculated sedimentation rates in Colesbukta and their temporal dynamics over the several latest decades. According to our estimations, the sedimentation rate has increased by 2–4 times compared to the middle of the 20th century and ranges from 0.2 to 0.46 mm/year depending on the individual conditions of sedimentation in each part of the bay. Climatic fluctuations are shown to have a direct impact on sedimentation processes in Colesbukta. We have revealed that on the periphery of the studied area the rate of sedimentation better depends on the temperature regime while in its central part it is rather a result of the amount of atmospheric precipitation.

Limestone as a natural rock tends to have various parameters. Variation in parameters, as well as firing temperature have significant impact on key properties of quicklime. Sedimentation volume and reactivity determine quality of quicklime in building industry. This paper is focused on monitoring the reactivity and sedimentation volume of quicklime prepared from various types of limestone at different temperatures. Selection of limestones with high purity collected from various quarries around the world were characterized by porosity, chemical and petrographic composition. To create quicklime, these samples were fired at 4 different temperatures. Reactivity measurements were made on quicklime with specific particle size. Sedimentation volume of hydrated slurry was determined. Obtained results suggest that there is tendency for slower reactivity and smaller sedimentation volume with increased firing temperature.

Accumulation and deposition of sediments in waterbody affect the seepage capacity that could lead to improper water balance and results in the water level rise. This study analysed the influence of sedimentation on seepage capacity in Lake Nakuru and the impact of sediment characteristics to the water seepage and the flow rate formation at the lake bed level. The study was performed by sampling and analysing the sediment cores from two locations in the lake. The sediment hydraulic properties, i.e., moisture and porosity, particle sizes, and hydraulic conductivity, were determined using the oven-drying method, sieve analysis, hydrometer analysis, and falling head tests, respectively. The results showed that the lake sediment sample from location P1 had an average ratio of 39.38% for silty soil, 34.00% for clayey sediment, and 26.63% for fine-sand sediment particles with the maximum permeability coefficient of 3.37 ∗ 10 − 5 cm/s, while the one from location P2 had an average ratio of 63.17% for sand, 20.17% for fine particles, and 16.67% for gravels with the maximum permeability coefficient of 0.010793 cm/s. The hydraulic conductivity of sediment sample from location P1 and P2 increased along the core depth. This could lead to the rise of water level due to the decreases of water movement induced from the sediment cementation in the top layers under the waterbody. Sedimentation affects Lake Nakuru water volume and water balance; hence, there is a need to control the inflow of sediment resulting from anthropogenic activities in the watershed.

ABSTRACT The association of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts with suspended particles can alter the oocysts' effective physical properties and influence their transport in aquatic systems. To assess this behavior, C. parvum oocysts were mixed with various suspended sediments under a variety of water chemical conditions, and the resulting settling of the oocysts was observed. Direct microscopic observations showed that oocysts attached to suspended sediments. Settling column and batch experiments demonstrated that oocysts are removed from suspension at a much higher rate when associated with sediments. The rate of oocyst sedimentation depended primarily on the type of sediment with which the oocysts were mixed. Changes in background water conditions had a relatively small impact on the extent of oocyst-particle association and the resulting oocyst deposition. We believe that the ubiquitous association of C. parvum oocysts with suspended particles enhances the sedimentation of oocysts in natural waters and that this interaction should generally be considered when predicting the migration of pathogens in the environment.

Increasing urbanisation of coastal areas is leading to impacts on coastal lakes which decrease their amenity for recreation and tourism. Runoff and wastewater discharge cause siltation, impact seagrass beds and change the characteristics of open waters, affecting boating, swimming, fishing and the aesthetic quality of the locale. Management of urban development and wastewater disposal is required to minimise sedimentation and nutrient enrichment. This could include development restrictions, runoff controls and a strategy for wastewater treatment and discharge. The catchment of Lake Macquarie, a marine coastal lake, has been progressively urbanised since 1945. Urbanisation, through increased stormwater runoff and point source discharges, has caused a major impact on the lake in terms of sedimentation and nutrient enrichment. Losses of lake area and navigable waters have occurred. Accompanying problems include changes in the distribution of seagrass beds and nuisance growths of benthic algae. Since the 1950's, dry weather nutrient concentrations have increased and mean water clarity has decreased. Severe problems, as observed in other New South Wales coastal lakes, for example benthic algae in Lake Illawarra and Tuggerah Lakes, have not yet developed. Because of the lead time taken to implement policies and controls, trends should be identified and policies developed now so as to avoid nutrient buildup and development of sustained problems.

As a result of the studies on the impact of the mixing of various sorts of Azerbaijani oils on their quality parameters, it was defined that in some correlations oil mixing is impossible as both rheological and physico-chemical parameters of these oils after mixing abnormally change. In the context of the oils from Bulla and Garachukhur fields it was specified that in 58:42 ratio percentage correspondingly, abnormal phenomenon is observed in parameter change. Moreover, various ballast deposition occurs due to the mixing. The paper studies the kinetics of deposition of different ballasts (resin, asphaltene and paraffins, as well as water, salt and mechanical impurities) in the mixture of incompatible oils. It was defined that the main mass of all ballasts is deposited during 8–10 hours. The studies justified that depending on the chemical composition of the oils, the incompatibility in the mixture may also be occured in intensive seperation of various ballasts.

Aim/Objective: This study evaluates the factors affecting pretreatment conditions for combination ultrafiltration membrane processes for reuse of secondary effluent from the sewage treatment plant. The objective of this work is to study the precoagulation effect on the removal of organic matter from secondary effluent from the wastewater treatment plant Reghaïa (Algiers) and for fouling of the membranes ultrafiltration. Methods: A comparison was made between two coagulant FeCl3 and Fe2(SO4)3 using two processing systems, Coagulation (with sedimentation) / Ultrafiltration and Coagulation (without sedimentation) / Ultrafiltration. The optimum conditions for coagulation were determined by the analysis UV254 and turbidity. Result: The results showed that there's a better reduction of the decrease of permeate flux (Jv) in the coagulation system (without sedimentation)/Ultrafiltration for both coagulants because of trapping of organic molecules responsible for fouling of the membrane inside the porous flocs formed in the coagulation.

In this study, we performed one dimensional cylindrical sedimentation tests to investigate the impact of clay mineralogy, ionic concentration, ionic valence on sedimentation, and self-consolidation behavior of clay. The result at 1,000% and 2,000% water content indicates that the water content = 2,000% showed higher self-consolidation coefficient and initial settling velocity, and faster initiation and termination of self-consolidation. Additionally, settling velocity decreased as ionic concentration (0.01 - 2 M) increased, and kaolinite showed higher settling velocity than illite. The observed sedimentation and self-consolidation experimental results implies the need for considering clay mineralogy, water content, ionic concentration, and ionic valence in the geotechnical behavior of high-water content clay sediment.

This research aims to study the impact of continuous pulsed electric field (PEF) on glycerin separation from Transesterification process. Transesterification process of biodiesel production using 100 ml vegetable oils with alcohol of 1:5 molar ratio together with potassium hydroxide (KOH) as catalyst 1 wt.% for the reaction. The designed glass tube reaction chamber is 250 ml contained with coaxial cylindrical electrodes. The applied voltage to an electrode was at 1 kV and frequency of 1 kHz with pulse duration of 500 μs and also 4 kHz with pulse duration of 125 μs. The results showed that the glycerin volume from transesterification process has rapidly sedimented with pulsed electric field method. It is much faster than using conventional gravity method. The sedimentation rate increases rapidly with an increasing in frequency of the applied voltage. The highest volume of glycerin sedimentation of 10.2 ml is by using pulsed electric field at 1 kV and 4 kHz.

Lakes are the environmental and socioeconomic assets of Nepal. In the past few decades, land use and land cover (LULC) change has severely altered the lake ecosystems. The sediment and nutrients loading into the lakes have altered lake ecosystem significantly. This study analyzes the spatiotemporal variations of LULC change and examines its impact on lake environment of Phewa, Begnas and Rupa lakes during 1975–2018 by using Landsat satellite images and data from published literatures. Results showed that from 1975 to 2018, forest cover and agriculture land in catchments of all three lakes has decreased, while the built-up area has increased. LULC change in the catchment have bought the significant impact on the lake environment in terms of sedimentation rate, physiochemical parameters and biological environment. From 1975 to 2000 forest cover in lakes catchment has decreased, whereas the agriculture land has increased. At the same time, sediment and agriculture based nutrient loading into lakes has increased indicated by changes in sedimentation rate and alteration of physiochemical properties of the lake. From 2000 to 2018, forest and built-up area has increased while the agriculture land has decreased in lakes catchment. From 2000 to 2018, sedimentation rate of lakes has decreased compared to before 2000. Decreased sedimentation rate was interpreted due to increase in forest cover in the lake catchment. Increased nutrients loading into the lake during 2000 to 2018 has resulted serious eutrophication problem in lakes. Overall, this study suggests that the LULC change in the catchment have significant impact on lake environment.

An experimental study on electrokinetic sedimentation of contaminated sediment is conducted. The sediment dredged from the Welland River in Ontario is heavily contaminated by metals, oil, and grease as a result of industrial activities over past decades. Characterization of the sediment is presented, followed by descriptions of the sedimentation columns used in the experiments and testing procedure. The application of electrokinetics on the Welland River sediment suspensions significantly increases the free settling velocity (up to 110%) and final solid concentration (up to 33%) and reduces the coefficient of sedimentation (up to 111%) and overall sedimentation time (up to 50%). These changes are functions of the initial solid concentration and applied electric field intensity. Based on the evaluation of all influencing factors, it is concluded that a continuous dc current generates better performance than intermittent current and electrokinetic sedimentation is more effective than chemical coagulation. All other conditions being equal, the combined application of electrokinetics and FeCl3 generated the best dewatering effect. The electrokinetic treatment generates pH changes ranging from pH 6.0 at the anode to pH 9.4 at the cathode which will generate a negligible environmental impact, as most metal contaminants will not be released to water in this pH range.Key words: electrophoresis, electrokinetics, sedimentation, contaminated sediment, waste management.

This work analyzes the loss of storage, in a medium-term basis, of Beninar reservoir (Almería, Spain) built in a semiarid watershed and its consequences downstream. The reservoir, in the Adra river basin (Southern Spain), was designed to supply water for the irrigation of more than 28.000 hectares of greenhouses. Its storage volume, that was initially of 68 hm3 in 1984, has been reduced approximately to half. The total sediment volume arrived to the reservoir during the last 32 years is 6,8 hm3, of which 1,68 hm3 are estimated to come from fluvial contributions. The results remark the torrential nature of rainfall events for generating large sediment contributions and highlights the importance of taking into account these types of events. The total loss of storage is especially relevant from two points of view 1) reduction of flood abatement due to sedimentation and structural problems of dam, which has left only 2 hm3 of regulation capacity and 2) loss of water volume which is essential to improve the water quality of the overexploited and salinized aquifers which supply the greenhouses downstream. Beninar reservoir is a key infrastructure to preserve a competitive price of water for greenhouse cultivation.

Nanoparticles (NPs) suspension is thermodynamically unstable, agglomeration and sedimentation may occur after introducing NPs into a physiological solution, which in turn affects their recognition and uptake by cells. In this work, rod-like gold NPs (AuNRs) with uniform morphology and size were synthesized to study the impact of bovine serum albumin (BSA) pre-coating on the cellular uptake of AuNRs. A comparison study using horizontal and vertical cell culture configurations was performed to reveal the effect of NPs sedimentation on AuNRs uptake at the single-cell level. Our results demonstrate that the well-dispersed AuNRs-BSA complexes were more stable in culture medium than the pristine AuNRs, and therefore were less taken up by cells. The settled AuNRs agglomerates, although only a small fraction of the total AuNRs, weighed heavily in determining the average AuNRs uptake at the population level. These findings highlight the necessity of applying single-cell quantification analysis in the study of the mechanisms underlying the cellular uptake of NPs.

Based on measured data of the Wanjiazhai Reservoir in different periods, the characteristics of the spatial and temporal distribution of sedimentation in the reservoir area were preliminarily analyzed and the impact of reservoir operation on this distribution was discussed. Primary conclusions are as followed: in terms of temporal distribution, sedimentation continuously accumulated over the period from 2000 to 2017, with the sediment deposition ratio dramatically decreasing between 2011 and 2017; in terms of spatial distribution, the sedimentation in the reservoir area was mainly concentrated downstream of the WD54 section, with the highest concentration being downstream of the WD23 section. The characteristics of sedimentation distribution in the reservoir area were closely related to inflow and sediment conditions and reservoir operation water level. When the water level was lower than 952 m, the sediment deposition ratio was lower than 0. To further improve the sediment deposition form in the reservoir area, lowering water level and ejecting the sediment are recommended in a timely manner.

Rawa Pening Lake is one of fifteen priority lakes. The problem in Rawa Pening Lake is the rapid sedimentation rate and blooming of water hyacinth which has an impact on the decreasing of storage capacity and water quality. The handling has not shown significant results. Therefore, that it needs to innovate on improvement and maintenance of Rawa Pening Catchment Area that has never done that is in the form of small dam development in Rawa Pening catchment area. The construction of a small dam in the Rawa Pening catchment area can temporarily hold water and prevent the rate of sediment from entering the lake. The purpose of this research is to analyse the influence of small dams in the Rawa Pening catchment area to sedimentation rate in Rawa Pening Lake. Sedimentation is calculated based on soil erosion in the catchment area, using the USLE formula. If There are 40 small-dams in Lake Rawa Pening catchment area, the sedimentation decreased to 78.75%. If there are only 2 small-dams constructed in the Klegung sub-watershed and the Legi sub-watershed, the sedimentation decrease to 67%.

Ten winter wheat cultivars created in Small Grains Research Centre of Kragujevac (KG-56, Srbijanka, Studenica, Takovcanka, KG-56S, KG?100, Toplica, Levcanka, Gruza, and Tara) were grown at experimental field during four years. Variability of bread-making quality properties (sedimentation value, gluten content and quality, and rheological flour and dough properties) was investigated. The sedimentation value was determined by Zeleny method, gluten content by standard method, and rheological flour and dough properties by Farinograph. Quality components depended significantly of genotype and environment factors. Obtained results have shown that the highest value of sedimentation in average was at KG-56S cultivar (61.8ml). Sedimentation in all investigated cultivars was at the level of the first quality class. Wet gluten are characterized by good physical properties, and on average ranged from 25.6% (KG-100) to 36.3% (Gruza). Wheat technological quality depended predominantly of genetic potential of cultivar, and it was on the level of A2-B2 quality group.
