Nowadays, some roads pass through underground tunnels due to technical inadequacy and high economic costs in constructing highways, railways, and pedestrians. Tunnels are opened to pass through obstacles on the route (mountain, hill, etc.) to force the driver, disturb him, reduce the ramps that could endanger safety depending on nature’s state, and shorten travel distances. In this way, number of tunnels along with the road increases, and illuminating these tunnels with different characteristics varies day and night. Tunnel illumination calculations and applications are essential as good tunnel illumination ensures the same flow of comfort, speed, and safety as on the approaching road. Moreover, with the advancement of tunnel technology, many types of equipment are used inside and outside the tunnel, and electricity needs vary according to these types of equipment. In this research, the importance of tunnel illumination was discussed and comparative illumination analysis in 8 August tunnel in Bitlis was conducted. Illumination for the Bitlis 8 August tunnel was done using luminaires with high-pressure sodium vapor lamps, and the grid was used to generate all the energy required. In this study, the energy used by the Bitlis 8 August tunnel for illumination was obtained from the accurate data and the results were compared with the initial situation when the same system was installed using light emitting diode (LED) illumination technology.

Poor imaging is frequently observed in many subsalt regions, making the subsalt stratigraphy interpretation and prospect evaluation challenging. We propose a critical reflection illumination analysis to evaluate subsalt illumination in areas where high-velocity contrasts create illumination and imaging shadows. Critical reflection often occurs at the base or flank of salt bodies. If critical reflection occurred, continued iterations of processing and imaging would generate little, if any, improvement in imaging results. Similarly, increasing the offset/azimuth of the acquisition would offer limited or no advantage. We introduce the critical reflection illumination map and illumination rose diagram to efficiently and effectively evaluate the probability of critical reflection for the target. This analysis can help avoid expensive processing, imaging, and acquisition efforts for areas that are in the critical/postcritical reflection regime. Critical reflection illumination analysis can also be applied to other high-velocity contrast scenarios.

We present a wave-equation-based method for seismic illumination analysis. A one-way wave-equation-based, generalized screen propagator is used to extrapolate the wavefields from sources and receivers to the subsurface target. A local plane-wave analysis is used at the target to calculate localized, directional energy fluxes for both source and receiver wavefields. We construct an illumination matrix using these energy fluxes to quantify the target illumination conditions. The target geometry information is used to manipulate the illumination matrix and generate different types of illumination measures. The wave-equation-based approach can properly handle forward multiple-scattering phenomena, including focusing/defocusing, diffraction, and interference effects. It can be directly applied to complex velocity models. Velocity-model smoothing and Fresnel-zone smoothing are not required. Different illumination measurements derived from this method can be applied to target-oriented or volumetric illumination analyses. This new method is flexible and practical for illumination analysis in complex 2D and 3D velocity models with nontrivial acquisition and target geometries.

In order to study the influence by non-uniformity of illumination on testing performance of optical measurement system, the causes of non-uniformity were analyzed. We constructed the relationship model between interval distance of LED light source and illumination. The distribution of illumination with different intervals of LED were simulated. Then relationship model between viewing-field angle at object plane of optical system and illumination was established. Influence of viewing-field angle at object plane on distribution of illumination was studied. The experimental results indicate that non-uniform light source and wide viewing-field angle are two main causes for non-uniformity in optical imaging system. Larger interval distance of LED or viewing-field angle will result in non-uniformity of illumination.

As the demand for electrical energy increases daily, it has become inevitable to use electrical energy more efficiently and economically. To reduce foreign dependency in energy in our country, various steps are taken to bring the areas where energy is used under the focus and to bring the existing systems to a better level with technology. 20 % of the energy consumed in our country is used in illumination. The share of road illumination is high illumination. Besides, since the control and observability of the road illumination inside the external illumination are easy, it is easier for countries to work in this field. New generation technologies are rapidly adopted, followed, and applied in our country. Light sources and luminaires used in road illumination have constantly changed with technology. High-pressure sodium vapor lamps are primarily used in road illumination in our country. In addition, LED luminaires, which are considered a new generation illumination technology, have startedto find wide use in this market. A comparative analysis of luminaires with high-pressure sodium vapor lamps and LED luminaires used in road illumination was made in this study. DIALux program was used to compare these analyses.

Introduction: During night flying operations, Night Vision Goggles (NVGs) help the aircrew to visualize by intensifying lights reflected from an object. Night sky illumination and image intensification mechanism are the two important factors that affect visual acuity (VA) through NVG. Hence, assessment of visual acuity through Gen 2++ and Gen 3 NVG under different illumination conditions and comparative analysis between the two NVGs was the desired objective of the study. Material and Methods: In a prospective repetitive measure design, a total of 60 volunteered subjects were examined for their VA through Gen 2++ and Gen 3 NVGs using USAF Tri-Bar Chart in the eye lane room of the NVG Lab. The VA was measured under four different illumination conditions; full moon (FM), half moon (HF)quarter moon (QM), and starlight (SL) conditions. The measured VA was converted to logMAR values and analyzed. Results: VA deteriorated significantly with decreasing illuminations through both Gen 2++ (χ2 = 149.9, P < 0.001) and Gen 3 NVGs (χ2 = 156.5, P < 0.001). For Gen 2++ NVG, the difference in VA was statistically significant in all conditions other than between FM and HM. Whereas, it was almost significant for all illumination conditions for Gen 3 NVG. The VA through Gen 2++ was better than Gen 3 in all conditions and the difference in VA widened with decreasing illuminations. Conclusion: VA declined with decreasing illuminations for Gen 2++ as well as Gen 3 NVG, even though, the difference was not significant between FM and HM for Gen 2++ NVG. VA was observed to be consistently better through Gen 2++ NVG compared to Gen 3 across all four illumination conditions. However, keeping in view the dynamic changes in night sky illuminations during flying operations, the findings of the study need to be validated in operational conditions.

Abstract The illuminations in two Italian manuscripts are still a mystery today. Both manuscripts were based fully or partly on the Florentine Squarcialupi Codex (Florence, Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana, Med. Pal. 87) dating from around 1410/15. With the help of a multi-analytical, non-destructive approach employing mobile instrumentation (XRF spectroscopy, visible reflectance spectroscopy and infrared reflectography), we examined the manuscripts Toronto, Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, MSS 09700 and Düsseldorf, Kunstpalast, Inv. K 1925-67 for the first time with regard to their production processes. The identification of modern pigments allows them to be contextualized in illumination practices of the 19th century. Manuals of that time provide a wealth of information on specific illumination practices and the availability of writing and painting materials, which correlates with the actual artefacts.

Light emitting diode (LED) luminaires are widely used in street, road, and tunnel illumination. It is necessary to detect their negative effects on power grid, especially in terms of power quality distortions. In addition, because of the limited energy sources, they have to be operated in most efficient way. This paper proposed an adaptive illumination system that can be used in highway tunnels. In this context, an experimental system that consist of LED luminaires with various power values that are possible to be used in tunnel illumination was implemented. Scenarios have been created for the designed system in accordance with possible tunnel illumination scheme. Siemens S7–1200 PLC was used to control these scenarios. FFT analysis of the measurements obtained with adaptive illumination scenarios was performed and power quality distortions were determined for different harmonic levels. Similar analysis was repeated for the non-adaptive system, and a detailed comparison was proposed. In addition, both systems were compared in terms of energy consumption. Operational characteristics of adaptive illumination systems were discussed by using the obtained data. Results show that total harmonic distortion (THD) for all luminaires are active situation is quite lower than adaptive illumination scenarios, where the values of current THD are 149.7 %, 119.9 %, and 85.8 % that scenario 1, scenario 2, and all luminaires are in active situation, respectively. On the other hand, as advantage, a power saving of 73.4 % and 60.3 % can be achieved compared to different adaptive illumination scenarios according to all luminaires are active.

We have developed an efficient method of directional illumination analysis in the local angle domain using local exponential frame beamlets. The space-domain wavefields with different shot-receiver geometries are decomposed into the local angle domain by using the local exponential beamlets, which form a tight frame with the redundancy ratio two and are implemented by a linear combination of local cosine and local sine transforms. Because of the fast algorithms of the local cosine/sine transforms, this method is much more efficient than the previously used decomposition methods in directional illumination analysis, such as the local slant-stacking method and the Gabor-Daubechies frame method. The results of directional illumination (DI) maps and the acqui-sition dip responses (ADR) for the 2D SEG/EAGE salt model and the 45-shot 3D SEG/EAGE model demonstrated the validity and feasibility of our method. Compared with the illumination results using local slant-stacking decomposition, the new method produces illumination maps of similar quality, but it does so a few times faster. Furthermore, because of its high computational efficiency and saving in memory usage, the new method makes the 3D directional illumination analysis readily applicable in the industry.

Image matching forms an essential means of data association for computer vision, photogrammetry and remote sensing. The quality of image matching is heavily dependent on image details and naturalness. However, complex illuminations, denoting extreme and changing illuminations, are inevitable in real scenarios, and seriously deteriorate image matching performance due to their significant influence on the image naturalness and details. In this paper, a spatial-frequency domain associated image-optimization method, comprising two main models, is specially designed for improving image matching with complex illuminations. First, an adaptive luminance equalization is implemented in the spatial domain to reduce radiometric variations, instead of removing all illumination components. Second, a frequency domain analysis-based feature-enhancement model is proposed to enhance image features while preserving image naturalness and restraining over-enhancement. The proposed method associates the advantages of the spatial and frequency domain analyses to complete illumination equalization, feature enhancement and naturalness preservation, and thus acquiring the optimized images that are robust to the complex illuminations. More importantly, our method is generic and can be embedded in most image-matching schemes to improve image matching. The proposed method was evaluated on two different datasets and compared with four other state-of-the-art methods. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method outperforms other methods under complex illuminations, in both matching performances and practical applications such as structure from motion and multi-view stereo.

To better understand a driver’s driving speed selection behaviour in low illumination, a self-designed questionnaire was applied to investigate driving ability in low illumination, and the influencing factors of low-illumination driving speed selection behaviour were discussed from the driver’s perspective. The reliability and validity of 243 questionnaires were tested, and multiple linear regression was used to analyse the comprehensive influence of demographic variables, driving speed in a low-illumination environment with street lights and driving ability on speed selection behaviour in low illumination without street lights. Pearson’s correlation test showed that there was no correlation among age, education, accidents in the past 3 years, and speed selection behaviour in low illumination, but gender, driving experience, number of night-driving days per week, and average annual mileage were significantly correlated with speed selection behaviour. In a low-illumination environment, driving ability has a significant influence on a driver’s speed selection behaviour. Technical driving ability under low-illumination conditions of street lights has the greatest influence on speed selection behaviour on a road with a speed limit of 120 km/h (β = 0.51). Risk perception ability has a significant negative impact on speed selection behaviour on roads with speed limits of 80 km/h and 120 km/h (β = −0.25 and β = −0.34, respectively). Driving speed in night-driving environment with street lights also has a positive influence on speed selection behaviour in low illumination (β = 0.61; β = 0.28; β = 0.37).

Directional illumination analysis based on one-way wave equations has been studied extensively; however, its inherent limitations, e.g., one-way propagation, wide-angle error, and amplitude inaccuracy, can severely hinder its applications for accurate survey design and true-reflection imaging corrections in complex media. We have analyzed the illumination in the frequency domain using full two-way wave propagators considering the extensive computation and huge storage required for time-domain methods, and the fact that the illumination is frequency dependent. This full-wave analysis can provide frequency-dependent full-angle true-amplitude illumination not only for the downgoing waves but also for the upgoing waves, including turning waves and reflected waves. Two methods were considered to decompose the full wavefield into the local angle domain: a direct full-dimensional decomposition and more efficient split-step decomposition composed of three lower-dimensional decompositions. The results of illumination analysis demonstrated the advantages of this method. The two decomposition methods produced similar results.

the manual assembly line used for assembling a certain type of lighting panel was introduced. The manual assembly works were analyzed. The assembly workbench surface illumination of the assembly line was tested. According to the light source is linear form, the assembly workbench surface was divided into some rectangles firstly. The intensity of illumination of these rectangles centers were tested by the illuminance meter. The average illuminance was also calculated out. According to these values, the illuminance curves were draw, which were approximately parallel lines. Further, the time values of the workers complete the same assembly work in different illumination were measured. The analysis reveals that the high illumination or the low level of illumination will affect the work efficiency. The reasonable illumination interval values were found. The testing and analysis provide scientific basis for the adjustment of the workbench illuminance and the improvement of working environment lighting.

We present an intelligent programmable computational meta-imager that tailors its sequence of coherent scene illuminations not only to a specific information-extraction task (e.g., object recognition) but also adapts to different types and levels of noise. We systematically study how the learned illumination patterns depend on the noise, and we discover that trends in intensity and overlap of the learned illumination patterns can be understood intuitively. We conduct our analysis based on an analytical coupled-dipole forward model of a microwave dynamic metasurface antenna (DMA); we formulate a differentiable end-to-end information-flow pipeline comprising the programmable physical measurement process including noise as well as the subsequent digital processing layers. This pipeline allows us to jointly inverse-design the programmable physical weights (DMA configurations that determine the coherent scene illuminations) and the trainable digital weights. Our noise-adaptive intelligent meta-imager outperforms the conventional use of pseudo-random illumination patterns most clearly under conditions that make the extraction of sufficient task-relevant information challenging: latency constraints (limiting the number of allowed measurements) and strong noise. Programmable microwave meta-imagers in indoor surveillance and earth observation will be confronted with these conditions.

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi iluminasi dan ilustrasi di dalam naskah Jawa di Perpustakaan Sana Pustaka Karaton Surakarta dan mendeskripsikan bentuk­bentuknya. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik analisis isi, fotografi, dan wawancara. Dari 700 naskah, terdapat 48 judul naskah yang mengandung iluminasi maupun ilustrasi dalam berbagai bentuk motif. Ada 15 naskah beriluminasi, 22 naskah berilustrasi, dan 11 naskah yang mengandung iluminasi dan ilustrasi. Berdasarkan fungsinya, iluminasi dapat dibedakan menjadi tiga, yaitu: iluminasi sebagai bingkai teks, iluminasi sebagai pembatas teks, dan iluminasi sebagai hiasan teks. Bentuk ilustrasi dapat diklasifikasikan ke dalam beberapa macam, yaitu duwung, kuluk, senjata, wayang, bendera, song­song, konstruksi kerangka rumah, dan kampuh. Adapun bentuk gabungan antara iluminasi dan ilustrasi berupa bentuk wayang, mahkota, senjata, dedaunan dan bunga­bungaan, bangunan rumah, serta mobil. Abstract: This research aims to identify illumination and illustration contained in the Javanese manuscripts in the Sana Pustaka Karaton Surakarta library and describe the form of them. The data collected through content analysis, photography, and interview. Among 700 manuscripts, there are 48 titles containing illumination and illustration in many forms and motifs. There are 15 manuscript illuminated, 22 manuscript illustrated, and 11 manuscript are the combination of illumination and illustration. According to the function, there are 3 classification of illuminations: 1) illumination as a text frame. 2) illumination as a text barrier, and 3) illumination as a text ornament. The form of Illustration can be classified into several types, namely duwung, kuluk, weapon, puppet, flag, song­song, construction of house structure, and kampuh. The combination form of illumination and illustration has the shape of puppet, thrown, weapon, foliage and flower, car, and house construction. Сreation of indoor lighting systems with the possibility of changing its parameters in space and time is a promising direction within the framework of the intellectual environment system. The aim of this work was to create a methodology for calculating the illumination created by LED matrices which does not require the use of specialized software products and is adapted to the possibility of varying the parameters of LEDs and illuminated rooms.The urgency of creating a room lighting system that simulates the conditions of natural lighting taking into account the need to change its spectral composition in time, in space taking into account the physical and psychological state of a person is substantiated. The possibility of using well-known computer programs to calculate the distribution of illumination in the room is analyzed.A method has been developed for calculating the distribution of illumination on a plane using both a flat LED matrix and a matrix with an inclined arrangement of the planes of individual LEDs. It is shown that the distribution of illumination is a function of the indicatrix of the light intensity of the LED, its location in space, the number of LEDs in the matrix.Illumination distribution has been calculated for various light sources consisting of RGB LEDs both for desktop and ceiling lighting was calculated. It is established that when using matrices containing the same LEDs distribution of illumination is very nonuniform. The inclined arrangement of LED planes slightly increases uniformity reducing the maximum illumination. For ceiling lighting the option of uniform distribution of LEDs within the ceiling plane provides more uniform illumination than when the same number of LEDs are arranged in groups of matrices.Results of LED sources modeling indicate the need to modernize simple orthogonal matrices containing the same type of elements with the same power modes for all elements in order to increase the uniformity of illumination and efficiency. Such modernization can be carried out by changing the geometry of matrices differentiating the power modes of individual LEDs. The developed calculation program can be supplemented with options for introducing the above changes, as well as options for analyzing the spectral distribution of light in space.

This work investigates the application of the inverse analysis to an illumination design of a three-dimensional rectangular enclosure. The problem consists of finding the luminous fluxes on the light source elements, located on the top of the enclosure, that satisfies a prescribed uniform luminous flux on the design surface, located on the bottom surface. The solution assumes that all the surfaces emit and reflect diffusely, and that the hemispheric spectral emissivities are wavelength independent in the visible region of the spectrum. The inverse analysis is described by a system of linear equations that is expected to be ill-conditioned since it involves the solution of a Fredholm integral equation of the first kind. To tackle the ill-conditioned system of equations, the TSVD (Truncated Singular Value Decomposition) regularization method is applied. In addition to presenting a methodology to solve for the luminous exchanges in a enclosure, starting from a thermal radiation energy balance, this work considers two design cases: one in which the light source elements cover the entire top surface; and one in which a reduced number of light sources are considered, a more practical solution. In both cases, the proposed inverse design is capable of providing a solution that satisfies the prescribed luminous flux on the design surface within average and maximum errors less than 1.0 % and 5.0 %, respectively.

The near infrared spectroscopy method investigated the chemical composition of fragrance basil plants (Ocimum basilicum) with green leaf colour, the Stella variety, which is a green culture with a short period of vegetation. The lighting was carried out using 400 W arc sodium mirror lamps (DNaZ 400), with a light flux of 46 thousand. Lm, whose spectrum is predominantly orange-red light (650 nm), is most effective for photosynthesis. The level of illumination when growing basil was 10 thousand and 15 thousand lk. The longitude of the day, taking into account the lighting, was 16 hours. In the above-ground portion of the basil plants, the protein, fiber, lipid, ash and starch content was determined by near infrared spectroscopy on an infrared SpectraStar XT analyzer, model 1400ХТ-3, full scanning range 1400-2600 nm. The increase in illumination stimulated photosynthetic activity and the synthesis of assimilates, achieving, at a certain level of illumination, an equilibrium state between the amount of CO2 absorbed and released. Basil plants have been shown to react differently to different levels of illumination. Using BIC spectroscopy, it was found that with increased illumination, the protein content of basil plants decreased from 23.4% at 10,000 lx to 20.1% at 15,000 lx, and the starch content increased from 30.1% at 10,000 lx to 43.7% at 15,000 lx. The content of basil in plants at different levels of illumination of such indicators as fat, ash and fiber remained at the same level and amounted to 3.06, respectively; 8.51 and 26.4% at 10 thousand lx and 2.80; 8.08 and 26.5% at 15 thousand lux.

Effective seismic illumination analysis to a priori targeted-geological model to identify the energy distribution of seismic waves, can apply to seismic analysis and amplitude compensation analysis. To increase the signal to noise ratio and resolution of seismic data when vibrator seismic exploration, it was necessary to strengthen the energy of a certain direction to get the High-Precision imaging and the best illumination of the target areas.Simulation research were done on single source directional illumination seismic technology, with seismic illumination analysis, and the impact of source number, spacing change on directional illumination seismic technology were also analyzed. Simulation results showed that the directional seismic technology could improved SNR of seismic data, and could be used for seismic signal processing.

"Mushaf Baiturrahman Cod.Or.2064 (Historical Studies and Illumination)" is the title of this study. The declaration of the Dutch war against Aceh in 1873 had an impact on the people of Aceh, since it resulted in the deaths of Acehnese combatants and academics, as well as the destruction of evidence of Acehnese civilisation. One of these was the burning of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, which resulted in the scorching and loss of numerous manuscripts and manuscripts, some of which were even transported back to their homelands by foreign invaders. The Baiturrahman Mushaf is one of the manuscripts, and it is presently in the collection of Leiden University with the designation Cod.Or. 2064. The issue in this research is how the historical worth and illumination of the manuscripts are preserved. The aim of the article is to determine the historical significance of the Baiturrahman Cod.Or Mushaf. 2064, as well as the manuscript's existence at Leiden University. In addition, the goal of this work is to examine how the themes in the text illuminations are used. This is a qualitative study that employs library research data gathering methods, observations, and documentation, as well as descriptive analysis to examine data. According to the study, the Baiturrahman Cod.Or.2064 Mushaf was a manuscript discovered by JHA Ijseel de Schepper, a commander of the Dutch army, beside the body of an imam of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque during the first Dutch military invasion in Aceh in 1873. This document has now been added to the library collection at Leiden University. The illumination in the Baiturrahman Cod.Or.2064 Mushaf may be found at the beginning, middle, and end of the Mushaf. This mushaf illumination motif, in general, follows the same patterns as other Acehnese manuscript illuminations, such as being square with a little "wing" form on the side. Bungong Pucuk Rebung, Lampu Gantung, Bungong Seuleupok, Bungong Tabu, Bungong Puta Taloe, Bungong Sagoe, Bungong Seumanga, Sulur Bunga Daun, Talo Ie, Sulur Bayung, Dada Limpeun, and Madu Sarang are some of the illumination patterns found on the Baiturrahman Cod.Or.2064 Mushaf.

Varying illumination is a huge challenge of face recognition. The variation caused by varying illumination in the face appearance can be much larger than the variation caused by personal identity. The high frequency signal component in image represents the detail characteristic of the face, and for the reason of being influenced scarcely by varying illumination, this signal component can be used as illumination invariance features in face recognition. However, the definition of the high frequency signal component is blurry, and it is impossible to separate this component from the face image exactly. Because of using the different decomposition methods and different decomposition parameters, high frequency component has been dispersed in decomposed detail images that characterize themselves by containing different scale frequency signal component. This paper proposes a framework to fuse that high frequency signal components in multi-scale detail images using adaptive weight. This novel framework is an open structure, and any method of getting illumination invariance feature can be applied on this framework. The experiment based on three open face databases shows the framework proposed by this paper can get remarkable performance.

The problem of predicting changes in the intensity of photosynthesis associated with changes in the lighting mode, atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration, and the temperature is urgent. Appropriate models can help choose the optimal mode of growing plants in protected soil, as well as serve as a basis for predicting the consequences of global climate change. It is noted that in the conditions of protected soil, the most significant factor is the illumination of plants. The aim of the research is to construct an algorithm for additional illumination of plants in protected ground conditions based on a mathematical model of photosynthesis. The authors introduced the value of the efficiency of additional illumination and studied its dependence on the coefficient of light transmission of the roof. The solution of the main task of the study is achieved by the fact that the light mode in protected ground structures is carried out on the basis of additional illumination to the ideal (optimal) for this type of plant. The entered value of the efficiency of additional illumination shows what energy costs will be for the production of photosynthesis products and, as a result, allows estimation of the economic costs. The considered method of artificial lighting of plants makes it possible to effectively use both sunlight and artificial lighting, providing an optimal lighting mode all year round, and allows to increase the intensity of photosynthesis by 50-80 %.

Human face is one of the most common and useful keys to a person's identity. Although, a number of face recognition algorithms have been proposed, many researchers believe that the technology should be improved further in order to overcome the instability caused by variable illuminations, expressions, poses and accessories. To analyze these face recognition algorithm, it is indispensable to collect various data as much as possible. Face databases such as CMU PIE (USA), FERET (USA), AR Face DB (USA) and XM2VTS (UK) are the representative ones commonly used. However, many databases do not provide adequately annotated information of the pose angle, illumination angle, illumination color and ground-truth. Mostly, they do not include large enough number of images and video data taken under various environments. Furthermore, the faces on these databases have different characteristics from those of Asian. Thus, we have designed and constructed a Korean Face Database (KFDB) which includes not only images but also video clips, ground-truth information of facial feature points and descriptions of subjects and environment conditions so that it can be used for general purposes. In this paper, we present the KFDB which contains image and video data for 1920 subjects and has been constructed in 3 years (sessions). We also present recognition results by CM (Correlation Matching) and PCA (Principal Component Analysis) which are used as baseline algorithms upon CMU PIE and KFDB, so as to understand how recognition rate is changed by altering image taking conditions.

It's an important topic that how to improve the illumination but decreasing or no increasing the electricity loads. The energy-efficient lighting equipment in the study was T5 lighting fixture combining with High-efficiency Reflector and Low-loss Diffuser Plate. The High-Efficiency Reflector could reflex the luminous energy above 97%. The illuminance could be improved largely through using the High-Efficiency Reflector without additional power. The High-Efficient Equipment illuminated the environment with low glare by the lights through the plate. Saving electricity was 47.5% and the measured illumination was increased more than 2 times in case one. The saving electricity was 30% and the measured illumination was increased about 1.5~2 times in case two. The specific benefits using energy-efficient lighting equipment were saving energy and enhance illumination. Cost of the investment achieved balance about 9.5~13.3 months. The additional value was a lighting environment with uniformity and low-glare. The energy-efficient lighting equipment could be an option of green construction.

Change detection on retinal fundus image pairs mainly seeks to compare the important differences between a pair of images obtained at two different time points such as in anatomical structures or lesions. Illumination variation usually challenges the change detection methods in many cases. Robust principal component analysis (RPCA) takes intensity normalization and linear interpolation to greatly reduce the illumination variation between the continuous frames and then decomposes the image matrix to obtain the robust background model. The matrix-RPCA can obtain clear change regions, but when there are local bright spots on the image, the background model is vulnerable to illumination, and the change detection results are inaccurate. In this paper, a patch-based RPCA (P-RPCA) is proposed to detect the change of fundus image pairs, where a pair of fundus images is normalized and linearly interpolated to expand a low-rank image sequence; then, images are divided into many patches to obtain an image-patch matrix, and finally, the change regions are obtained by the low-rank decomposition. The proposed method is validated on a set of large lesion image pairs in clinical data. The area under curve (AUC) and mean average precision (mAP) of the method proposed in this paper are 0.9832 and 0.8641, respectively. For a group of small lesion image pairs with obvious local illumination changes in clinical data, the AUC and mAP obtained by the P-RPCA method are 0.9893 and 0.9401, respectively. The results show that the P-RPCA method is more robust to local illumination changes than the RPCA method, and has stronger performance in change detection than the RPCA method.

We evaluate directional illumination (DI) and acquisition-aperture efficacy through wave theory-based beamlet decomposition of the wavefield. Beamlet decomposition (wavelet transform along spatial axis) provides localizations in both space and direction of a wavefield. We introduce the image conditions in beamlet domain and local angle domain and then define the local image matrix (LIM). We calculate the DI in the image space for a given source or a group of sources by decomposing Green’s functions into local angle domain at image points. Acquisition-aperture efficacy (AAE) matrix and acquisition dip-response (ADR) vector can be defined to quantify the efficacy of an acquisition configuration for a given subsurface point. As numerical examples, we calculate the DI maps and ADR maps for high- and low-velocity lens models and for the SEG-EAGE 2D salt model. We further investigate the influences of acquisition geometry and overlaying structures on the quality of prestack depth migration image for the subsalt area of the SEG-EAGE model. We find that the ADR maps for different dip angles have good correlation with the image qualities of the corresponding reflectors.
