Gigantism refers to a condition characterized by extreme physical size and stature. By definition, this originates during infancy, childhood or adolescence, when epiphyseal growth plates remain open. Although the term gigantism may be applied to a number of non-hormonally mediated overgrowth conditions in children, it is often used to specifically denote growth hormone(GH) excess. GH excess during childhood and adolescence is extremely rare, with the total number of reported cases thus far numbering only in the hundreds. Herein we present such a case.

The behaviors of a material are nonlinear in the large deformed region. The hyper elastic models can describe such non linear materials. If the hyper elastic material is applied to the hydrostatic tensile load, the void begins to grow when the load exceed the critical value. It is important to study the coalescence of the void growth in order to consider the destruction of the material. In this paper, the void growth simulations in the hyper-elastic material with multiple seeds are studied. The unit rectangular cell with small voids is subjected to the hydrostatic tensile load. This problem can be analyzed by FEM. However, the simulation with the larger number of the voids is not possible. Thus, the CA (Cellular Automaton) is used to describe the behaviors of the void coalescence and the possibility of CA is discussed.

<p>Hyper-pigmentation is a common skin condition in which increased melanin production results in darker patches of skin. Although hyper-pigmentation is harmless but still mostly people wish to get rid of them because of increasing craze of beautification in India. Topical corticosteroids (TC) application showed quick amelioration of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation patches. Prolonged and unsupervised use of TC leads to skin atrophy and reappearance of hyper-pigmentation patches. We present two cases of hyper-pigmentation induced by TC misuse. In case-1, a 20 year old female came to OPD with a complaint of hyper-pigmentation and itch sensation along with drug history of Betnovate cream for the last 2 years for acne treatment. On examination, she showed signs of hyper-pigmentation on cheeks. She was counselled to stop the further use of Betnovate cream and prescribed demelanizing agents along with sunscreen and emollients. The patches improved significantly with above management within 15 days. In case-2, a 33 year old female came to OPD with complaints of redness over whole face, increased facial hair growth and burning sensation along with drug history of using Betnovate cream for 2 years. On examination she showed signs of hyper-pigmentation and redness on cheeks, bruise and tearing of skin and increased facial hair growth. She was counselled to stop the further use of Betnovate cream. She was prescribed retinoic acid cream, sunscreen agents, anti-allergic tablets and emollient cream. The patches improved significantly with above management within 15 days.</p><p class="abstract"> </p>

Abstract In this paper, we investigate the order and the hyper-order of growth of solutions of the linear differential equation where n≥2 is an integer, Aj (z) (≢0) (j = 1,2) are entire functions with max {σ A(j) : (j = 1,2} < 1, Q (z) = qmzm + ... + q1z + q0 is a nonoonstant polynomial and a1, a2 are complex numbers. Under some conditions, we prove that every solution f (z) ≢ 0 of the above equation is of infinite order and hyper-order 1.

The paper considers the sigmoid function definedthrough the hyper-log-logistic model introduced by Blumberg. We study the Hausdorff distance of this sigmoid to the Heaviside function, which characterises the shape of switching from 0 to 1. Estimates of the Hausdorff distance in terms of the intrinsic growth rate are derived. We construct a family of recurrence generated sigmoidal functions based on the hyper-log-logistic function. Numerical illustrations are provided.

Classical Mathematics is not sufficient to justify some functions like Dirac’s delta function, Heaviside’s unit step function in the mathematical modelling of some physical problems. Mikio Sato introduced the concept of hyperfunction to explain such situations. He gave a new generalisation to such functions using the theory of complex analysis. Hyperfunctions have many applications in the field of differential equations that are related with the physical problems involving Heat equation, wave equation etc. Urs Graf applied various transforms to hyperfunctions. With the help of these transforms he solved differential equations in terms of hyperfunctions. In this paper we defined a norm to a subclass of the linear space of hyperfunctions. The completeness and separability properties of this subfamily of hyperfunctions are established in this paper. Hyperfunctions of bounded exponential growth with compact support are mainly considering here.We have developed the results using the defining function of the hyperfunction. An association between induced maternal hyperthyroidism and a decreased incidence of cold-induced ascites in broiler chickens has been reported recently. There are also reports suggesting that thyroid hormones have an effect on intestine, a high oxygen-demanding organ. The present study aimed to determine whether the ascites-attenuating effect of maternal hyperthyroidism is associated with morphological changes in intestine and with probable adverse effects on growth performance in progeny chicks. Eighty-eight broiler breeder hens were allotted to control or hyperthyroid [HYPER; thyroxine-treated] groups, and artificially inseminated. Hatching eggs (n = 924) were incubated and day-old male chicks (n = 288) were reared for 42 days under standard or low ambient temperature. Plasma thyroxine was higher in the HYPER hens and their embryos at internal pipping. Maternal hyperthyroidism did not adversely affect the feed : gain ratio and carcass weight, whereas cold stress impaired them. A higher relative weight was found at 42 days of age for all intestinal regions at low ambient temperature. The duodenal and jejunal crypt depths (CD) were lower in HYPER group at 7 days of age. Cold exposure decreased the duodenal and jejunal villus height and CD, and increased the ileal goblet cell number at 21 days. On Day 42, higher values were recorded for CD, goblet cell number, and epithelial thickness of different intestinal regions in cold-exposed birds. In conclusion, growth performance was not adversely influenced by maternal hyperthyroidism and its minimal early effect on intestinal morphology does not appear to be the underlying mechanism for decreased incidence of ascites in broilers.

We investigate the growth of meromorphic solutions of homogeneous and nonhomogeneous higher order linear differential equations f(k) + k-1?j=1 Ajf(j) + A0f = 0 (k ? 2); f(k) + k-1 ?j=1 Ajf(j) + A0f = Ak (k ? 2); where Aj(z)(j=0,1,...,k) are meromorphic functions with finite order. Under some conditions on the coefficients, we show that all meromorphic solutions f ?/0 of the above equations have an infinite order and infinite lower order. Furthermore, we give some estimates of their hyper-order, exponent and hyper-exponent of convergence of distinct zeros. We improve the results due to Kwon, Chen and Yang, Bela?di, Chen, Shen and Xu.

Thyroid disease has profound effects on cardiovascular function. Hypo- and hyperthyroidism, for example, are associated with reduced and increased maximal endothelium-dependent vasodilation respectively. We therefore hypothesized that the capacity for vascular nitric oxide (NO) formation is decreased in hypothyroidism and increased in hyperthyroidism. To test this hypothesis, rats were made hypothyroid (HYPO) with propylthiouracil or hyperthyroid (HYPER) with triiodothyronine over 3–4 months. Compared with euthyroid control rats (EUT), HYPO exhibited blunted growth and lower citrate synthase activity in the soleus muscle; HYPER exhibited left ventricular hypertrophy and higher citrate synthase activity in the soleus muscle (P<0.05 for all effects). The capacity for NO formation was determined in aortic extracts by formation of [3H]l-citrulline from [3H]l-arginine, i.e. NO synthase (NOS) activity. Thyroid status modulated NOS activity (EUT, 36.8 ± 5.5 fmol/h per mg protein; HYPO, 26.0 ± 7.9; HYPER, 64.6 ± 12.7; P<0.05, HYPER vs HYPO). Expression of endothelial and neural isoforms of NOS was modulated by thyroid status in a parallel fashion. Capacity for responding to NO was also determined via measuring cGMP concentration in aortae incubated with sodium nitroprusside. Stimulated cGMP formation was also modulated by thyroid status (EUT, 73.0 ± 20.2 pmol/mg protein; HYPO, 152.4 ± 48.7; HYPER, 10.4 ± 2.6; P<0.05, HYPER vs HYPO). These data indicate that thyroid status alters capacities for both formation of and responding to NO. The former finding may contribute to previous findings concerning vascular function in thyroid disease states.

The nonhomogeneous higher order linear complex differential equation (HOLCDE) with meromorphic (or entire) functions is considered in this paper. The results are obtained by putting some conditions on the coefficients to prove that the hyper order of any nonzero solution of this equation equals the order of one of its coefficients in case the coefficients are meromorphic functions. In this case, the conditions were put are that the lower order of one of the coefficients dominates the maximum of the convergence exponent of the zeros sequence of it, the lower order of both of the other coefficients and the nonhomogeneous part and that the solution has infinite order. Whiles in case the coefficients are entire functions, any nonzero solution with finite order has hyper order equals to the lower order of one of its coefficients is proved. In this case, the condition that the lower order of one of the coefficients is greater than the maximum of the lower order of the other coefficients and the lower order of the nonhomogeneous part is assumed.

To study the effects of hyper-accumulator plant straw on the biomass and cadmium (Cd) accumulation of lettuce (Lactuca sativa), the pot experiments were conducted to study the effects of straw application of three hyper-accumulator plants (Solanum nigrum, Bidens pilosa and Galinsoga parviflora) on the biomass and Cd accumulation of lettuce under Cd stress. The results show that: compared with no straw application, the biomass of lettuce was increased after applying three kinds of hyper-accumulator plant straw: S. nigrum, B. pilosa and G. parviflora, Cd content in the above ground part of lettuce was increased by 4.46%, 1.20% and 0.63% respectively, compared with that of non-application, and Cd content in the root of lettuce was decreased. The application of three kinds of hyperaccumulator plant straw promoted the growth of lettuce and increased Cd uptake by lettuce of aerial part.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to analyze the development of grasslands in Zona da Mata, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, between 2000 and 2013, using a parameter based on the growth index of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) from the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (Modis) data series. Based on temporal NDVI profiles, which were used as indicators of edaphoclimatic conditions, the growth index (GI) was estimated for 16-day periods throughout the spring season of 2012 to early 2013, being compared with the average GI from 2000 to 2011, used as the reference period. Currently, the grassland areas in Zona da Mata occupy approximately 1.2 million hectares. According to the used methods, 177,322 ha (14.61%) of these grassland areas have very low vegetative growth; 577,698 ha (45.96%) have low growth; 433,475 ha (35.72%) have balanced growth; 39,980 ha (3.29%) have high growth; and 5,032 ha (0.41%) have very high vegetative growth. The grasslands had predominantly low vegetative growth during the studied period, and the NDVI/Modis series is a useful source of data for regional assessments.

Graphite growth morphology was studied by using InLense detector on FEG-SEM after performing ion etching on the samples. Star like and circumferential growth mechanism of graphite was observed in the graphite nodules. Pure ternary alloy of hypo eutectic and hyper eutectic composition was treated with pure Mg, Ca and Sr, to study the effect of O and S concentration in the melt, on the transition of graphite morphology from nodular to vermicular/compacted and flake graphite. The change in the melt composition between the austenite dendrites due to micro-segregation of S, O and inoculants and their possible effects on the transition of graphite morphologies as well as the nucleation of new oxides/sulfides particles is discussed with the help of thermodynamics.

This study examined the competitive attitudes of entrepreneurs using the psychological theory of hyper-competitiveness versus personal development competitiveness in data from a cross-section of small business entrepreneurs. Results suggest most entrepreneurs view themselves, and their cohort, as personal development (e. g., growth oriented) competitors rather than as hypercompetitors (e. g., dominant individuals). The analysis suggests that, when applied at the individual level, the entrepreneurial orientation dimension of competitive aggressiveness should be reconceptualized to include not only hyper-competitiveness but also personal development competitiveness. Implications for the theories of entrepreneurial gender, affective engagement, interactional competitiveness and self-actualization are discussed.

Due to severe heavy nmetals contamination in agricultural soil worldwide, several studies specifically focused on the development of metal accumulating crop plants, which can maintain their optimum growth and production in contaminated soil. Mustard plants (Brassica campestris L.) are in generally considered as the hyper accumulator, can be grown advantageously for phytoremediation of the lands contaminated by industrial wastes. Therefore, the effect of varied cadmium (Cd) concentrations on the germination and initial growth of mustard seeds were investigated under controlled laboratory conditions. Results showed a differential response of mustard seeds under varied Cd concentrations. The lower levels of Cd affected the mustard seeds positively or neutrally; but the higher Cd levels showed significant adverse effect. We conclude that as mu_tard being a hyper-accumulator of several metals can only be grown at lower Cd levels for their optimum performance.

Abstract In budding yeast, loss of topoisomerase III, encoded by the TOP3 gene, leads to a genomic instability phenotype that includes slow growth, hyper-sensitivity to genotoxic agents, mitotic hyper-recombination, increased chromosome missegregation, and meiotic failure. Slow growth and other defects of top3 mutants are suppressed by mutation of SGS1, which encodes the only RecQ helicase in S. cerevisiae. sgs1 is epistatic to top3, suggesting that the two proteins act in the same pathway. To identify other factors that function in the Sgs1-Top3 pathway, we undertook a genetic screen for non-sgs1 suppressors of top3 defects. We found that slow growth and DNA damage sensitivity of top3 mutants are suppressed by mutations in RAD51, RAD54, RAD55, and RAD57. In contrast, top3 mutants show extreme synergistic growth defects with mutations in RAD50, MRE11, XRS2, RDH54, and RAD1. We also analyzed recombination at the SUP4-o region, showing that in a rad51, rad54, rad55, or rad57 background top3Δ does not increase recombination to the same degree as in a wild-type strain. These results suggest that the presence of the Rad51 homologous recombination complex in a top3 background facilitates creation of detrimental intermediates by Sgs1. We present a model wherein Rad51 helps recruit Sgs1-Top3 to sites of replicative damage.

This study aims to optimize the conditions for “Genovese” basil (Ocimum Basilicum) germination and growth in an indoor environment suitable for horticulture through a synergic effect of light and fertilizers addition. In fact, several studies determined that specific light conditions are capable of enhancing basil growth, but this effect is highly dependent on the environmental conditions. In this study, the effect of different light sources was determined employing a soil with a negligible amount of fertilizer, demonstrating substantial improvement when light-emitting diode (LED) lights (hyper red and deep blue in different combinations) were applied with respect to daylight (Plants height: +30%, Total fresh mass: +50%). Thereafter, a design of experiment approach has been implemented to calculate the specific combination of LED lights and fertilizer useful to optimize the basil growth. A controlled-release fertilizer based on nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) derived from agro-residues was compared with a soil enriched in macronutrients. The results demonstrate significant improvements for the growth parameters with the employment of the controlled-release NPK with respect to enriched soil combined with a ratio of hyper red and deep blue LED light equal to 1:3 (Total fresh mass: +100%, Leaves number: +20%).

The challenge is to find an appropriate alternative for use in calf milk replacer diets. Polyclonal antibody addition to the diet may offer a potential alternative to antibiotic feed additives. Surface active polyclonal egg antibodies derived from hyper-immunised chickens may offer such an alternative. Antibodies for common livestock pathogens can be raised in the hen and passed on to the egg and the eggs are used to produce hyper-immunised spray dried egg protein. However the optimum level of inclusion is not defined.

We examined the extent to which the scientific workforce in different fields was engaged in publishing COVID-19-related papers. According to Scopus (data cut, 1 August 2021), 210 183 COVID-19-related publications included 720 801 unique authors, of which 360 005 authors had published at least five full papers in their career and 23 520 authors were at the top 2% of their scientific subfield based on a career-long composite citation indicator. The growth of COVID-19 authors was far more rapid and massive compared with cohorts of authors historically publishing on H1N1, Zika, Ebola, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. All 174 scientific subfields had some specialists who had published on COVID-19. In 109 of the 174 subfields of science, at least one in 10 active, influential (top 2% composite citation indicator) authors in the subfield had authored something on COVID-19. Fifty-three hyper-prolific authors had already at least 60 (and up to 227) COVID-19 publications each. Among the 300 authors with the highest composite citation indicator for their COVID-19 publications, most common countries were USA ( n = 67), China ( n = 52), UK ( n = 32) and Italy ( n = 18). The rapid and massive involvement of the scientific workforce in COVID-19-related work is unprecedented and creates opportunities and challenges. There is evidence for hyper-prolific productivity.

The dynamic theory of inhomogeneous populations developed during the last decade predicts several essential new dynamic regimes applicable even to the well-known, simple population models. We show that, in an inhomogeneous population with a distributed reproduction coefficient, the entire initial distribution of the coefficient should be used to investigate real population dynamics. In the general case, neither the average rate of growth nor the variance or any finite number of moments of the initial distribution is sufficient to predict the overall population growth. We developed methods for solving the heterogeneous models and explored the dynamics of the total population size together with the reproduction coefficient distribution. We show that, typically, there exists a phase of "hyper-exponential" growth that precedes the well-known exponential phase of population growth in a free regime. The developed formalism is applied to models of global demography and the problem of "population explosion" predicted by the known hyperbolic formula of world population growth. We prove here that the hyperbolic formula presents an exact solution to the Malthus model with an exponentially distributed reproduction coefficient and that "population explosion" is a corollary of certain implicit unrealistic assumptions. Alternative models of world population growth are derived; they show a notable phenomenon, a transition from protracted hyperbolical growth (the phase of "hyper-exponential" development) to the brief transitional phase of exponential growth and, subsequently, to stabilization. The model solutions are consistent with real data and produce relatively accurate forecasts.
