The synthetic material developed by Dupont in 1963 for solid surfaces has been used since its origin for numerous applications. One of the most popular ones in the last decade is as a finishing layer on façades. The first references that contemplated this use on the outside were the Seeko’o hotel in Bordeaux executed in 2007 and the refurbishment of the 7700 m2 shell of the Hôtel Ivoire congress centre in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) in 2009. In Spain, the first example of the installation of this material is the rehabilitation of the main building of the La Rotonda de la Playa de San Juan urbanisation in Alicante, designed in 1965 by the architect Juan Guardiola Gaya and rehabilitated in 2010 by Miguel Salvador Landmann. Ten years later, our research is focused on the study of the colour ageing of the acrylic resin and natural mineral sheets on each of its façades, with different orientations and exposure to sea and wind. To this end, it has been studied the solar radiation of the surfaces, the wind exposure of their façades and tests with a tele-spectroradiometer has been carried out. The study makes it possible to quantify the differences in colour in all of them and to state that the combination of wind and radiation is the main atmospheric agent causing the degradation.

Les Trématodes de 35 espèces de poissons marins, d'importance commerciale, collectés dans le littoral de Rio de Janeiro, ont été étudiés. Dix-sept espèces de Trématodes appartenant à 13 familles ont été recensées. Quatre de ces espèces sont référés pour la première fois au Brésil: Diphtherostomum americanum, Diplomonorchis floridensis, Pancreadium otagoensis et Neomegasolena chaetodipteri, neuf dans de nouveaux hôtes: D. americanum, Diplangus paxillus, Hurleytrema shorti, Lecithochirium microstomum, Morascus filiformis, Neolebouria multilobatus, P. otagoensis, Pleorchis mollis et Opechona bacillaris, une a été recontrée dans un hôte mentionné pour la première fois au Brésil: Vitellibaculum spinosum et cinq autres espècies sont déjà répertoriées: Acanthocollaritrema umbilicatum, Bucephalopsis calliocotyle, Bucephalus varicus, Parahemiurus merus et Tergestia pauca. Tergestia selenei est consideré synonyme de T. pauca. Les principales mesures sont données pour chaque espèce.

The Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Jacques of Toulouse (in Southwest France) is an ancient hospital officially existing since the 16th century and initially dedicated to the treatment of the poor and the destitute. In the 18th century, it became a hospital in the “modern” sense of the word, by maintaining health and trying to cure diseases. The first official traces of professional dental care in the Hôtel Dieu Saint-Jacques by a dental surgeon date from 1780. From this period, the Hôtel-Dieu Saint Jacques had a dentist to treat “paupers” in the early years. The first “officially” recorded dentist was named Pierre Delga, known for having treated the French Queen Marie-Antoinette for a difficult extraction. Delga also provided dental care to the famous French writer and philosopher Voltaire. The aim of this article is to relate the history of this hospital along with French dentistry, and to advance the that the Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Jacques, now a hospital site of the Toulouse University Hospital, is probably the oldest building in Europe still in activity and still hosting a dentistry department.

Selon l’Office International des Epizooties (OIE) une maladie émergente désigne une maladie grave récemment reconnue, dont la cause peut, ou non, avoir déjà été établie, et qui est susceptible de se propager au sein d’une population ou entre des populations, par exemple à l’occasion d’échanges internationaux d’animaux aquatiques et/ou de produits d’animaux aquatiques. Si les maladies émergentes qui affectent la santé humaine ont été très étudiées, celles qui touchent les organismes marins et les organismes aquacoles d’intérêt économique en particulier sont en revanche peu documentées. C’est en restreignant l’émergence aux seules maladies infectieuses que seront présentés de façon non exhaustive quelques scénarios de l’émergence des maladies chez les organismes d’intérêt aquacole en les illustrant par trois exemples disponibles dans la littérature scientifique : l’un relatif à l’apparition d’un agent pathogène chez un nouvel hôte avec le cas de l’herpesvirus de la carpe Koï, l’autre à l’évolution d’un agent pathogène existant avec le cas de la vibriose à Vibrio nigripulchritudo sévissant dans les élevages de crevettes pénéides de Nouvelle-Calédonie et enfin le dernier lié à l’introduction d’un pathogène préexistant avec le cas de Bonamia ostreae infectant l’huître plate Ostrea edulis. Les causes d’émergence de maladies sont multiples et font intervenir de façon intercurrente l’agent pathogène, l’environnement, l’hôte ou les espèces hôtes et des facteurs anthropiques. Dans le milieu marin, ces causes sont bien souvent méconnues. Dans ce contexte le développement des réseaux de surveillance et des techniques de diagnostic revêtent un intérêt considérable afin d’anticiper, de prévenir et/ou d’intervenir sur l’émergence des maladies en limitant leur conséquences sanitaires, écologiques et politiques.

It is a commonplace regret of theatre historians that, for the Hôtel de Bourgogne (as, indeed, for the Théâtre du Marais) there exists no continuous record of performances analogous to that maintained by La Grange in respect of Molière's troupe. Thus one cannot always be certain which plays were performed, still less when. Such dates as are certain—or even, virtually certain—are so, only because they arise in the writings of contemporaries. In particular, the gazetiers (Loret, Robinet, and others) are an invaluable source of information. One can say, for example, that the first performance of Quinault's Stratonice took place on January 2, 1660 at the Hôtel de Bourgogne, that of Pierre Corneille's Sertorius on February 25, 1662 at the Théâtre du Marais, that of Racine's Andromaque on November 17, 1667 in the Louvre (given by the troupe of the Hôtel), and that of Quinault's Pausanias at the Hôtel on November 16, 1668—provided, of course, that the gazetiers are not mistaken (and, as a fact, they are not infallible). Clues may also be found in other miscellaneous writings (one such, to be mentioned again below, establishes the date of Racine's Bérénice).

Abstract This article examines discussions of Parisian hôtels particuliers (townhomes) in eighteenth-century texts on architecture and mœurs (mores). It focuses on how exterior decoration was used to comment on the social order and on the relationship between public and private and shows how both were undergoing transformations in the eighteenth century. Exterior decoration meant to indicate the rank of the inhabitant was increasingly obscured by the practices of the wealthy, regardless of rank. The exterior of the townhome was a visible boundary between public (the street) and private (the home); it was also the entrance to residences that often combined private and public functions. Luxury townhomes housed government officials, some of whom bought their public offices. On the Right Bank, many townhomes were built by financiers, who lent privately held funds to the state. In written texts, multiple concerns about the instability of status and wealth focused on townhomes. These texts played a role in the articulation of a public realm completely differentiated from private ownership.

In the 19th century, writers in Québec and Mexico equated the United-States to a hôtel, that is to a place linked to change, instability and loss of identity. In Québec, in the 19th century, Adolphe-Basile Routhier, the author of the national anthem « O Canada » in its french version, valorized homogeneity and stability. These values are put in jeopardy by modernity and technology, a situation, which is seen as positive by the Canadian thinker T. C Keefer who published Philosophy of the Railroads in 1853. Nowadays, comparing a country like Canada to a hôtel is seen as very positive by thinkers such as Yann Martel and Pico Iyer. Both of them are keen suporters of transcultural encounters. Being a Canadian nowadays means valorizing change and hybridity.

The article is devoted to the second stage of architectural and design activity of Hector (Hector) Guimar (1867–1942), during which his unique style was finally formed. During the period from 1900 to 1912, following the traditions of «total design», the architect was engaged not only in the design of residential and public buildings, but also in the decorative design of their facades and interiors, furniture, tableware, elements of technical equipment. He compiled a catalog of metal decorative elements for their serial production, published a set of advertising cards of his best works. The most well-known architectural designs are made in Guimard’s style, such as the house Jassede at Versailles (1903), Hotel Deron-Levent (1907), Castel d’Orgeval (1904–1905), Villa Surprise (1903-1907), Hôtel Guimard (1909–1912), Hôtel Mez-zara (1910–1911).

The article is devoted to the design activity of the famous Belgian architect Victor Horta (1861–1947), one of the founders of the European art Nouveau (Art Nuoveau). The interest in this unique architect is due to the fact that he lived a very long and creative life, and left a huge creative heritage. In 1967, his best Art Nouveau works received a well-deserved recognition and became the property of world culture. The paper presents the analysis of architectural, compositional and structural features of a number of buildings erected in Brussels. Four of them are included in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites in 2000. Including the Tassel House (1892–1893), The Hôtel Solvay (1894–1900), The Hôtel van Eetvelde (1895–1897) and The Horta Museum (1898–1900). Some aspects of his scientific, pedagogical and sociopolitical activities are also considered.

Der Krankensaal, die berühmte salle des pauvres, ist per se spiritueller Raum, bildet in Architektur und Bildwerken den religiös philosophischen Kosmos der Patienten ab und gibt Anleitungen zur Selbstreflexion. In key moments of urban history, urban design is confronted with the emergence of new paradigmatic design models, such as the garden city and the radiant city. Recently, the Smart City seems to have gained centre stage in the public debate. However, despite its emblazoned technological features, the Smart City remains a hazy concept in the urban design domain to such an extent that almost any form can be built under the Smart City label. While this may sound libertarian and progressist, it is also concerning since different urban forms are associated with different societal outcomes. This paper aims to investigate the forms of Smart City districts through morphometric comparison. More specifically, it proposes a replicable methodology based on 18 metrics of urban form and statistical analysis to compare a Smart City district with other city areas with known design models of reference. Such a methodology is applied to three case studies on the French Riviera: Méridia, a Smart City district, Hôtel-des-Postes, a 19th-century traditional district, and Sophia Antipolis, a sprawling technopark. The results show that Méridia has a hybrid form that partly resembles Hôtel-des-Postes (higher densities, gridiron plan, and functional mix) and partly Sophia Antipolis (bulky buildings with large setbacks). However, the top–down approach used in the production of the physical space ultimately renders Méridia more similar to Sophia Antipolis than Hôtel-des-Postes. This study provides one of the first morphometric characterisations of a Smart City district, but also a replicable methodology that can further the morphological understanding of the Smart City phenomenon worldwide.
