Abstract In order to meet the requirements of the Southern Advanced Photon Source (SAPS), a slot-coupled π-mode 5-cell copper cavity with higher order mode (HOM) damping was proposed and developed. In this study, we present the optimal design of a 5-cell copper cavity and an investigation of HOM impedances. A prototype of 5-cell copper cavity based on this design was manufactured. The RF characteristics of 5-cell copper cavity have been tested. The results show that a flat accelerating electric field is obtained, with a coupling coefficient of 1.7% and a shunt impedance more than 19.5 MΩ/m. To damp these HOMs with high impedance, two inductive HOM couplers and two capacitive HOM couplers were designed. Finally, the impedances of all the HOMs are below the threshold of coupled-bunch instabilities (CBI) for SAPS.

A 499.8 MHz SOLEIL-type superconducting cavity was simulated and designed for the first time in this paper. The higher-order mode (HOM) properties of the cavity were investigated. Two kinds of coaxial HOM couplers were designed. Using 4 L-type and 4 T-type HOM couplers, the longitudinal impedance was suppressed to 3 kΩ, and the transverse impedance below 30 kΩ/m. The HOM damping requirements of Hefei Advanced Light Facility (HALF) were satisfied. This paper conducts an in-depth study on the radio frequency (RF) design, multipacting optimization, and thermal analysis of these coaxial couplers. Simulation results indicated that under operating acceleration voltage, the optimized couplers does not exhibit multiplicating or thermal breakdown phenomena. The cavity has the potential to reach a higher acceleration gradient.

The CERN SPS 200 MHz traveling-wave (TW) accelerating structures pose an intensity limitation for the planned High Luminosity (HL-) LHC upgrade. Higher-order modes (HOMs) around 630 MHz have been identified as one of the main sources of longitudinal multi-bunch instabilities. Improved mitigation of these HOMs with respect to today’s HOM-damping scheme is therefore an essential part of the LHC injectors upgrade (LIU) project. The basic principles of HOM-couplers in cavities and today’s damping scheme are reviewed. Before illustrating the numerous requirements, an improved damping scheme for the future 33-cell structures must be fulfilled. These are, among others, the mitigation of HOMs situated in the lower part of the structure where there are no access ports for extraction, a sufficient overall damping performance and an acceptable influence on the fundamental accelerating passband (FPB). Different approaches tackling these challenges are investigated and their performance, advantages and pitfalls are evaluated by ACE3P and CST electromagnetic (EM) field solver suites.

Анотація:

We put into practice a relatively new analytical technique, the homotopy decomposition method, for solving the nonlinear fractional coupled-Korteweg-de-Vries equations. Numerical solutions are given, and some properties exhibit reasonable dependence on the fractional-order derivatives’ values. The fractional derivatives are described in the Caputo sense. The reliability of HDM and the reduction in computations give HDM a wider applicability. In addition, the calculations involved in HDM are very simple and straightforward. It is demonstrated that HDM is a powerful and efficient tool for FPDEs. It was also demonstrated that HDM is more efficient than the adomian decomposition method (ADM), variational iteration method (VIM), homotopy analysis method (HAM), and homotopy perturbation method (HPM).

This method of assessment and treatment of marital problems focuses on the couple's perception of their happy marital experiences and on the interpretation of their current marital problematic status. Each spouse is asked to describe individually his evaluation of his marital status in terms of what he liked in the course of his marital life, what he was less fond of regarding his marital life, and what his opinions are regarding the reasons which might have led him to his actual problematic marital situation. It has been assumed that this method provides relevant information enabling both therapist and couple to construct a meaningful profile of behavioral deficits and assets and the recollection of past happy experiences helps to build new cognitive and emotional expectations. Treatment is behaviorally oriented, enabling a couple to make a connection between their past happy experiences and the desired future outcome. It also helps increase such positive attitudes as communication, availability, functional consensus, marital creativity, and decrease the manipulative attitude. Five couples were accepted for the treatment and a mean of 13 sessions were held in the spring of 1987. One couple dropped out after two sessions. Two follow-up and two posttests (Locke-Wallace) showed good maintenance of therapeutic gains.

Abstract: While John Milton was disavowing "the jingling sound of like endings," John Dryden was cementing a vogue for writing rhymed couplets that would dominate the English literary landscape for the next 150 years. Seeking rhyme's lost links to pleasure and sometimes to transgression, this essay looks closely at Dryden's early considerations of couplet rhyme in his Essay of Dramatick Poesie (1668) and related critical writings contemporaneous with Paradise Lost (1667), as well as in a few examples of his early couplet practice in his plays and prologues from this period. My claim is that Dryden's schooling in dramatic couplets at the start of his career shaped his broader thinking about rhyme, opening him to rhyme's residual orality and the dissident energy always nascent in rhyme's sounds. His couplets and criticism from the mid 1660s thus alert us to how rhyme's field of play, perhaps especially in closed forms like the seventeenth-century couplet, tends to be mischievously subversive of any single authority.

Objective: We investigate whether obesity is associated with sexual activity, sexual frequency, and the range of sexual behaviors in heterosexual older couples. We assess to what extent associations between obesity and sexuality are explained by physical, psychological, and sexual health, and by relationship quality. Method: We use data from 1,698 older adults in 849 partnered dyads in the 2010-2011 wave of the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project and conduct couple-level analysis featuring women’s and men’s characteristics. Results: Women’s obesity—particularly at severe levels—is negatively associated with coupled sexual activity, but the association is not mediated by hypothesized mediators. Men’s obesity did not have any association with sexual activity. There was no significant difference between overweight and normal weight adults across all three sexuality measures. Discussion: The growing number of older adults with high levels of body mass index, particularly women, may face certain difficulties in maintaining active sexual lives.

The Hong–Ou–Mandel (HOM) effect is a fascinating quantum phenomenon that defies classical explanation. Traditionally, remote nonlinear sources have been used to achieve coincident photons at the HOM beam splitter. Here, we suggest that the coincident emission source required for HOM interference can be created locally using superradiant near field coupled emitters positioned across the beam splitter gap. We show that sensitivity to permittivity changes in the beam splitter gap, and corresponding Fisher information can be substantially enhanced with HOM photon detection. Subsequently, we outline several strategies for integration of superradiant emitters with practical sensor systems. Taken together, these findings should pave a way for a wide array of near field HOM quantum sensors and novel quantum devices.

In the current study, the moderating effects of observed negative and positive affects on the association between intimate partner violence (IPV, physical aggression) and relationship satisfaction were examined over a 5-year period. Multiwave data were obtained from a sample of young adult men at risk for delinquency and their women partners (n = 121 couples; ages 21–26 years). The trajectory of each partner’s relationship satisfaction and the effects of dyadic IPV and affect were tested using HLM analyses and a two-level (within-couple and between-couple) dyadic growth model. Average levels of dyadic positive affect were associated with relationship satisfaction for both men and women. For men, increases in couples’ positive affect over time were linked to increases in relationship satisfaction, and increases in couples’ externalizing negative affect were linked to decreases in satisfaction. For women, higher levels of couples’ IPV predicted lower levels of satisfaction. Couples’ internalizing negative affect amplified the effects of IPV on satisfaction over time. Increases in IPV were associated with declines in satisfaction for couples with high levels of internalizing negative affect. Conversely, average levels of externalizing negative affect did not amplify the association between IPV and relationship satisfaction. In fact, the adverse influence of IPV on relationship satisfaction was greater for couples who displayed low levels of externalizing negative affect. Because of the inverse association between externalizing negative affect and relationship satisfaction, these findings were interpreted to suggest that the salience of IPV was greater in couples whose relationship satisfaction was not already impaired by high levels of negative affect.

I present a brief intervention with a Chinese couple that illustrates the impact of Chinese culture and its current rapid evolution on the couple's struggle to build their marriage. Each member of the couple was idealised and pampered as a child, but with opposite effects: the wife became unable to care for herself, while the husband became so focused on his career that he ignored the gnawing effects of his own dependency. When he reached out to other women to care for him during his wife's pregnancy, the ensuing crisis brought them to seek consultation. The rigidity experienced during the first days of the intervention yielded unexpectedly in the last two days, promoting a new-found sense of hope in the couple and in the therapists.

Although palliative care nurses are identified as key players in supporting couples during advanced illness, there is a lack of evidence about their knowledge and experiences with this particular role. The aim of the study was to explore palliative care nurses’ attitudes, roles, and experiences in addressing relationship functioning of couples in daily practice. A qualitative study was conducted using in-depth interviews, observational research, and peer debriefing groups with palliative care nurses in Flanders, Belgium. Nurses support relationship functioning by creating a couple-positive care environment, by being present/acknowledging feelings, and by rectifying imbalances between couples. They do so in a proactive way, backed up by team support. Nurses hesitate toward explicitly unraveling and intervening in relationship problems, in favor of providing comfort or offering a strengths-based approach. The findings offer an urgent call to enhance the educational programs for palliative care nurses by integrating the theories and practice frameworks that guide relational assessment and intervention, which are being used in family nursing.

Supportive couple relationships are associated with reduced risk of chronic illness development, such as cardiovascular disease, as well as improved secondary prevention. Healing Hearts Together (HHT) is an 8-week couples-based intervention designed to improve relationship quality, mental health, quality of life, and cardiovascular health among couples in which one partner has experienced a cardiac event. A randomized controlled trial began in October 2019 to test the efficacy of the in-person, group-based HHT program as compared to usual care. In March of 2020, all recruitment, assessments, and interventions halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Guided by optimal virtual care principles, as well as by Hom and colleagues’ four-stage framework—consultation, adaptation, pilot-testing, and test launch—this paper is a tutorial for the step-by-step transition planning and implementation of a clinical research intervention from an in-person to a web-based format, using the HHT program as an example. Clinical and research considerations are reviewed, including (1) privacy, (2) therapeutic aspects of the intervention, (3) group cohesion, (4) research ethics, (5) participant recruitment, (6) assessment measures, (7) data collection, and (8) data analyses. This tutorial can assist clinical researchers in transitioning their research programs to a web-based format during the pandemic and beyond.

Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of emotion-oriented couple therapy and couple therapy based on acceptance and commitment on spiritual indicators (patience and forgiveness) in couples affected by extramarital relationships. Methods: The present study was a pre-test-post-test and follow-up field with applied and experimental designs. The statistical population studied in this study included all couples affected by extramarital affairs who referred to counseling centers in Tehran in 2021, from which 60 people were selected by available sampling method and in three groups. Emotion-based couple therapy, acceptance and commitment-based couple therapy, and a control group (20 people in each group) were assigned. Data were obtained using the Forgiveness Questionnaire Ray, Loyaduno, Flock, Alzieowski, Him and Madia (2001), and the Patience Questionnaire Khormai (2009). Acceptance and commitment therapy based on the McKay et al. (2012) package and the emotion-based couple therapy protocol Johnson (2004) were administered in ten 90-minute sessions weekly. The control group did not receive treatment and was placed on a waiting list. For inferential analysis, repeated measures analysis of variance and SPSS.22 software were used. Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between the three groups of emotion-oriented couple therapy, couple therapy based on acceptance and commitment and the control group on the spiritual indices of patience (F=71.59, P<0.001) and forgiveness (F= 136.80, P<0.001). There is a statistical opinion and forgiveness and patience in the acceptance and commitment treatment group at the end of the post-test were higher than the excited couple therapy group and the control group (p<0.01). Conclusion: It can be concluded that in terms of effectiveness, acceptance and commitment treatment had the greatest impact on improving the variables of forgiveness and patience.

Abstract The Health and Retirement Study (HRS) asks mid-life and older couples to identify the person most knowledgeable about household finances to provide responses to financial questions (“financial respondent” [FR]). The purpose of this study is to analyze predictors of a female FR, with a focus on gendered financial decision making. This study analyzed HRS data from 2012 to 2018. Our sample consisted of 5,038 married/partnered couples over the age of 50 (at baseline), after eliminating cases with missing data on study variables. Using HLM 6.08 software, we computed the odds of couple households having a female FR. Our main predictor was the amount of female financial decision making power, as measured using eight Likert scale items (0=male always makes this decision, 4=female always makes this decision), for purchases (e.g., cars, major appliances) and financial activities (e.g., paying bills, buying groceries); summed into a scale (range: 0-32). Our models controlled for race, ethnicity, education, income, age, health, cognitive ability, and depressive symptoms. Results indicate that men were more likely to be the FR, but when the female makes more household financial decisions then she is more likely to be the FR (OR = 1.16, p&lt;.01). Black race, lower income, and time also increased the odds of a female FR. This study highlights women’s historical and ongoing limited power in financial matters of married couples. Financial knowledge and decision making skills should be encouraged for both partners in couple households.

115 expectant married couples from an HMO population were recruited during a routine 5-mo. prenatal visit. Husbands and wives independently completed a background questionnaire and the Rotter Internal-External (I-E) Locus of Control Scale. Differences in I-E scale scores between husbands and wives were significant. I-E scores of expectant wives indicated greater external locus of control than those of expectant husbands. This finding was derived from a repeated-measures multivariate analysis of covariance with socioeconomic status as the covariate and within-couple scores as the repeated-measure. The relationship between pregnancy and locus of control and the need for research are discussed.

Abstract A higher-order-mode (HOM) damped 166.6-MHz β=1 quarter-wave superconducting cavity has been designed for the High Energy Photon Source project. Dangerous multipacting barriers have to be removed by geometry optimizations in superconducting cavity design while retaining favorable radiofrequency and mechanical properties as well as sufficient HOM damping. Multipacting analysis has been conducted on the cavity by using coupled simulation codes comprising electromagnetic calculations and particle tracking. A circular transition structure between the cavity and the beam pipe was proposed to remove the high-field multipacting band by eliminating the local minimum of the electric field thus preventing the field-induced electrons from being trapped into the potential well. The impacts of the geometric change on the cavities' electromagnetic and mechanical properties as well as HOM damping were examined. The deteriorated impedance of the first monopole HOM can be recovered by a slightly enlarged beam pipe, while the total loss factor has little change. The compact footprint of the cavity module was maintained as required for a limited straight section with a fixed length. Mechanical properties of the cavity were also retained with an improved tuning sensitivity and frequency stability. These constitute a first HOM-damped 166.6 MHz β=1 quarter-wave superconducting cavity with multipacting suppressed.

Mobile banking (M-bank), a newly introduced technology, can improve women’s access to financial services. This study empirically estimates the effect of a husband’s and wife’s socioeconomic characteristics, relative differences in age and education, and household characteristics on M-bank use in northern Bangladesh, exploring the presence and possible effect of the gender gap between husband and wife. A couple’s relative differences in age or education can function as a proxy to capture the wife’s M-bank use, thereby, her financial responsibilities in the household. The empirical evidence is based on a two-equation probit estimation that predicts the possible determinants of M-bank use by husbands and wives. M-bank use of husbands and wives differed remarkably, with wife to husband ratio of 4:15. Households were categorized into three subgroups: wife user, husband user, and nonuser. Results show that a husband’s level of education, having his own business, and having a migrant family member within the household have a statistically significant positive effect on the likelihood of him using M-bank. On the other hand, a wife with an education level higher than that of her husband’s has a significant positive effect on the likelihood of her using M-bank. A substantial gender gap in M-bank use, favoring husbands, was observed in most couples where the husband has more schooling than the wife and vice versa. The impact of M-bank use must be critically studied, focusing on the couple’s relative status due to the gender gap in educational attainment and positive relative characteristics of couples in patriarchal, Islamic, rural settings in Bangladesh.

The stoichiometry and kinetics of the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide by tris(2,2′-bipyridine) and tris(4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine) complexes of osmium(III), iron(III), ruthenium(III), and nickel (III) were studied in acidic and neutral aqueous media at 25 °C and I = 0.50 M (LiCF3SO3). The reaction 2M(bpy)33+ + H2O2 → 2M(bpy)32+ + O2 + 2H+ is observed with quantitative yields of dioxygen gas. The observed rate constants displayed an inverse acid dependence over the pH range 6.0–8.5; kobsd = k1 + k2K1/[H+], attributed to the oxidations of H2O2(k1) and HO2− (k2). An application of the Marcus theory relationship to the cross-reaction data gave a self-exchange rate constant of 10−2–10−1 M−1 s−1 for the HO2−/HO2 couple. The electron exchange rate constant is evaluated in terms of the inner-sphere and solvent reorganizational barriers and is compared to values reported for other small molecule couples. Rate and activation parameters for the reduction of the nickel(III) complexes by the hydroxide ion have been determined and are compared with the corresponding values for other metal tris(poly pyridine) complexes.

This article explores joint advance planning for co-caring couples in the community, a group growing in number and need. A health crisis for one, exposes the vulnerability of the other. Lack of planning for this eventuality leaves health and social care struggling to provide an adequate safety net in a short timeframe. This inability to adequately support, can lead to harm to the couple. The authors conducted a formal reflective investigation to discover themes that impacted on their ability to meet the needs of such a couple in their care. The themes were: the need for advanced care planning in co-caring situations; capacity assessed through different lenses; using safeguarding systems appropriately to support questions of capacity; challenges when care is not accepted; and compassion fatigue. These themes were then used to develop an action plan to improve ways of working to reduce risk in these situations.

Objectives In this study, we discussed the ‘experience and meaning of family disconnection’ in the lives of a Christian counselor couple and understood how their lives continue within the overall context of life. Methods To this end, a study was conducted with a couple of Christian counselors living in Gyeonggi-do over a period of approximately two months from July 18 to September 13, 2022, through several interviews, emails, phone calls, and text exchanges. After receiving approval from the Bioethics Committee (22-01-03-0701), The study secured ethical consideration, validity and reliability of research participants, and ‘Entered the field’ based on narrative inquiry procedures (Clandinin & Connelly, 2006). The settings were ‘Constructing field text’, ‘From field text to research text’, and ‘Constructing research text’. Results In the experience of family rupture, a male counselor heard his wife criticize him as a ‘character-broken person’ after marriage, and the tremendous sense of defeat and shame within him revived, and he experienced a breakdown in language, emotions, and even a break in sexual relations between the couple due to feelings of anger. The female counselor said that the unstable attachment she developed with her parents during her childhood was also evident in her relationship with her husband after marriage, and whenever conflict with her husband arose, it led to a breakdown in language, emotions, and a breakdown in sexual relations between the couple. Conclusions First, the meaning of the counselor couple's experience of family disconnection is that family is the safest, but sometimes it remains a wound. Second, it was expressed in self-understanding, acceptance and respect. Third, I analyzed myself as a wounded healer and tool.

This research explained the choice of language for Dyak-Madurese couples with interethnic marriage. In this research there are the aims of the research, this research aims to investigate the language choice used by interethnic marriage Dyak-Madurese families and to investigate the factors affecting language choice of interethnic marriage Dyak-Madurese couples. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The researcher selected three families of Dyak-Madurese interethnic marriage as participants to achieve the aim of the research. The data were obtained by observing and interviewing. The results of this research have shown that interethnic marriage families Dyak-Madurese prefer the Indonesia language as their first language and are commonly used in everyday contact at the home domain. This research found that the children of the third family preferred a different language when interacting with their father, he preferred the Madura language, but he also uses the Indonesia language when communicating with his parents. The finding also showed that interethnic marriage Dyak-Madurese families use the Indonesia language in another domain such as neighborhood domain and with friends. The research also found that the children of the first and second families from interethnic marriage families were unable to speak the ethnic language, it has caused the younger children not to be taught the ethnic language. The children of the third family can speak Madura language because the father taught him the Madura language. In data there are three factors affecting language choice in interethnic marriage Dyak-Madurese couples, they are the participant, social context, the function of the language. Based on the research the interethnic marriage Dyak-Madurese families show a negative attitude toward their ethnic language, but the father of the third family has a positive attitude.

A hidden Markov model (HMM) encompasses a large class of stochastic process models and has been successfully applied to a number of scientific and engineering problems, including speech and other pattern recognition problems, and biological sequence analysis. A major restriction is found, however, in conventional HMM, i.e., it is ill-suited to capture the interactions among different models. A variety of coupled hidden Markov models (CHMMs) have recently been proposed as extensions of HMM to better characterize multiple interdependent sequences. The resulting models have multiple state variables that are temporally coupled via matrices of conditional probabilities. This paper study is focused on the coupled discrete HMM, there are two state variables in the network. By generalizing forward-backward algorithm, Viterbi algorithm and Baum-Welch algorithm commonly used in conventional HMM to accommodate two state variables, several new formulae solving the 2-chain coupled discrete HMM probability evaluation, decoding and training problem are theoretically derived.

Abstract The current building simulation of heat air and moisture (HAM) only regards the indoor air as homogeneous, which cannot accurately predict and evaluate the thermal and humid environment of complex historical buildings. In this study, the heat, moisture, and airflow coupled model (HAM-CFD model) was developed by FORTRAN programming, and then the simulation results of the HAM model and the HAM-CFD model were compared to study the characteristics of indoor environment under the action of airflow. The results show that there is a coupling effect between the indoor airflow and heat and moisture transfer of walls. The HAM-CFD model can reflect the temperature stability of the building center, and has a better correlation with rainfall. The HAM-CFD model can more truly reflect the changes of building temperature and moisture content in complex thermal and humid environment.

Bidirectional communication between the 1,4-dihydropyridine receptor (DHPR) in the plasma membrane and the type 1 ryanodine receptor (RYR1) in the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) is responsible for both skeletal-type excitation–contraction coupling (voltage-gated Ca2+ release from the SR) and increased amplitude of L-type Ca2+ current via the DHPR. Because the DHPR and RYR1 are functionally coupled, mutations in RYR1 that are linked to malignant hyperthermia (MH) may affect DHPR activity. For this reason, we investigated whether cultured myotubes originating from mice carrying an MH-linked mutation in RYR1 (R163C) had altered voltage-gated Ca2+ release from the SR, membrane-bound charge movement, and/or L-type Ca2+ current. In myotubes homozygous (Hom) for the R163C mutation, voltage-gated Ca2+ release from the SR was substantially reduced and shifted (∼10 mV) to more hyperpolarizing potentials compared with wild-type (WT) myotubes. Intramembrane charge movements of both Hom and heterozygous (Het) myotubes displayed hyperpolarizing shifts similar to that observed in voltage-gated SR Ca2+ release. The current–voltage relationships for L-type currents in both Hom and Het myotubes were also shifted to more hyperpolarizing potentials (∼7 and 5 mV, respectively). Compared with WT myotubes, Het and Hom myotubes both displayed a greater sensitivity to the L-type channel agonist ±Bay K 8644 (10 µM). In general, L-type currents in WT, Het, and Hom myotubes inactivated modestly after 30-s prepulses to −50, −10, 0, 10, 20, and 30 mV. However, L-type currents in Hom myotubes displayed a hyperpolarizing shift in inactivation relative to L-type currents in either WT or Het myotubes. Our present results indicate that mutations in RYR1 can alter DHPR activity and raise the possibility that this altered DHPR function may contribute to MH episodes.

Coupled heat, air, and moisture transfers through building envelope have an important effect on prediction of building energy requirements. Several works were conducted in order to integrate hygrothermal transfers in dynamic buildings simulations codes. However, the incorporation of multidirectional hygrothermal transfer analysis in the envelope into building simulation tools is rarely considered. In this work, coupled heat, air, and moisture (HAM) transfer model in multilayer walls was established. Thereafter, the HAM model is coupled dynamically to a building behavior code (BES).The coupling concerns a co-simulation between COMSOL Multiphysics and TRNSYS software. Afterward, the HAM-BES co-simulation accuracy was verified. Then, HAM-BES co-simulation platform was applied to a case study with various types of climates (temperate, hot and humid, cold and humid). Three simulations cases were carried out. The first simulation case consists of the TRNSYS model without HAM transfer model. The second simulation case, 1-D HAM model for the envelope was integrated in TRNSYS code. For the third one, 1-D HAM model for the wall and 2-D HAM model for thermal bridges were coupled to the thermal building model of TRNSYS. Analysis of the results confirms the significant impact of 2-D envelope hygrothermal transfers on the indoor thermal and moisture behavior of building as well as on the energy building assessment. These conclusions are shown for different studied climates.

After 11 years of marriage, they are going to couples counseling and have decided that opening up their marriage might help. There are rules though; text ever 30 minutes, no dating people they know. Henry meets his date, Erin, and explains the situation in more detail, which she knew going into their first date. Erin reads the text messages from Christine and helps Henry interpret their meanings. She also helps him understand the real situation his marriage is in. In the end, Henry heads home while Christine heads to the next bar with her date. Henry is starting to wonder if this was the plan all along.

Traditional Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) interferometry, insensitive to photons phase mismatch, proved to be a rugged single-photon interferometric technique. By introducing a post-beam splitter polarization-dependent delay, it is possible to recover phase-sensitive fringes, obtaining a temporal quantum eraser that maintains the ruggedness of the original HOM with enhanced sensitivity. This setup shows promising applications in biological sensing and optical metrology, where high sensitivity requirements are coupled with the necessity to keep light intensity as low as possible to avoid power-induced degradation. In this paper, we developed a highly sensitive single photon birefringence-induced delay sensor operating in the telecom range (1550 nm). By using a temporal quantum eraser based on common path Hongr-Ou-Mandel Interferometry, we were able to achieve a sensitivity of 4 as for an integration time of 2·104 s.

Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive within 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse for women under 35 years of age and affects approximately 15% of reproductive aged couples [1]. A diagnosis of infertility is often emotionally, physically, and financially devastating and many patients will seek fertility assistance with their obstetrician and gynecologist. While there may be underlying factors contributing to infertility that that require specific treatments (i.e. fibroids requiring myomectomies), there are also many patients that are unaware of how best to optimize conception timing. Counseling patients regarding the science of reproduction and adjusting at home practices may increase their chances for success.

This article gives a detailed account of a twelve-year-old boy and his parents, seen from the perspective of both the child's and the couple's therapists, and then from that of visiting teachers and a commentator in the Continuous Training Course in Family and Couple Therapy carried out with The Beijing Zhi-Dao-Zhong-He Medical Institute, which is directed by our collaborator, Fang Xin. The referral concerns a twelve-year-old boy who we will call Haitao (not his real name), whose symptoms included compulsive hand washing, social isolation, difficulty making decisions, and hesitation in answering questions and in initiating actions. He was initially referred for individual therapy. After his individual therapist met with the family, she suggested parent therapy at the same time that she initiated weekly child therapy. There was instability in his therapy because when his first therapist became pregnant, he was referred to a second therapist who met twice with him before resigning and referring him to a third therapist, who then recommended that he return to his first therapist. We all noted from the outset that this therapeutic instability had a negative effect on the family's adaptation to Haitao's therapy. This case report details a consultation to two difficult therapies for a neuroatypical boy and his parents.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore how minority stress and the experience of societal level hostility towards lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) people and their relationships may have impacted upon their relationships and relationship histories. Design/methodology/approach – This paper introduced the minority stress framework and examines the relationship histories of a small cohort aged 50 at the last sweep of data collection. Findings – The minority stress framework states that societal level hostility will lead to unequal treatment and psychological distress among minority groups, which could impact on their relationships histories. In these data, those people we identify as being LGB were significantly more likely to have had a higher number of cohabiting partnerships, were less likely to have had longer-term cohabiting relationships, and were less likely to be in a relationship at age 50. This is despite LGB people placing an equal importance on partnership and marriage. These results are accompanied by caveats, but the authors conclude that if minority stress does impact upon relationships, it is upon the stability and length of relationships. Practical implications – Compared to older LGB couples, opposite sex couples, are more likely to have been in receipt of peer and especially familial support for their relationship, particularly around times of relationship crisis. Additionally, for those same sex couples that did approach professional sources of support, such as couple counselling, heteronormative and even hostile attitudes from counselling providers may have meant that experienced and informed support was not available when needed. The findings therefore pose a challenge to service providers to ensure that relationship support and allied services are available and adapted to meet the needs of older LGB people, whose previous contacts with these service providers may have been substantially less than positive, and whose need for relationship support may be greater. Originality/value – The needs of older LGB people and their relationships are often overlooked. The use of a small sample of cohort data to examine these issues provides new insight into the way in which older LGB people may age differently to non-LGB people.

This study explored the relation between expectant parents' knowledge of fetal sex and their attachment to their fetuses. During a routine 18-wk. prenatal visit, 126 expectant couples from an HMO population independently completed a background questionnaire and Fetal Attachment Scales of Cranky. During a routine 34-wk. obstetrical ultrasound examination those who chose to know were informed of the fetal sex. Total attachment scales were readministered during the 37th week. Parents' sex, knowledge of fetal sex, and the passage of time significantly affected attachment scores. Both parents' scores increased over time. Mothers' scores increased at a greater rate than the fathers'. Those parents who knew the fetal sex had significantly lower scores than those who did not. Whether the sex of the fetus was the preferred sex was nonsignificant. Results were derived from a double multivariate analysis of variance which controlled the within-couple and within-subject effects.

Анотація:

In this article the approximate solutions of nonlinear Hirota Satsuma coupled Korteweg De- Vries (KDV) and modified coupled KDV equations have been obtained by using reliable algorithm of New Iterative Method (NIM). The results obtained give higher accuracy than that of homotopy analysis method (HAM). The obtained solutions show that NIM is effective, simpler, easier, and explicit and gives a suitable way to control the convergence of the approximate solution.

Анотація:

Jealousy has traditionally been treated by offering medication, support, or various forms of individual psychotherapy or counselling. However, jealousy is usually a condition which has a profound effect on the sexual partner of the jealous person, and they may actually suffer more from the condition than the person him/herself. While accepting that medication and other individual approaches have their place in the management of jealousy, there seem to be several advantages in seeing the problem from the standpoint of the couple relationship. Firstly, couple therapy reduces the almost inevitable labelling of the jealous person as a psychiatric case. Secondly, one might argue a priori that any changes which take place as a result of two people changing their behaviour are likely to be more stable and long-lasting than if just one person changes. There is another consideration, namely that, since the relationship is bound to be affected by the jealousy, it will need attention regardless of the means used to treat the jealousy itself.
