Анотація:

Abstract In this paper, I investigate the relationship between Penelope's letter to Odysseus (Her. 1) and the letters of Leander and Hero (Her. 18–19), especially Hero's letter to Leander (Her. 19). The peculiarity of this comparative approach lies mainly in the fact that whereas Penelope and Odysseus were one of the most famous couples in ancient literature and the protagonists of a great epic, the Odyssey, Leander and Hero were considerably less known in Rome during Ovid's time. To prove the close relationship between the letters of Penelope, Leander, and Hero, I present their numerous similarities, and then I suggest the reasons why Ovid took pains to compose the letters of Leander and Hero in a way so closely reminiscent of Penelope's letter to Odysseus.

Анотація:

This research aims to discover the relation between the historical background in the Elizabethan Era and the poem by Christopher Marlowe entitled Hero and Leander which is written during this Era (published in 1598) and the characters’ gender orientation which are also influenced by the Era. This research uses descriptive-qualitative method since the data is collected by reading then it is identified and analyzed by the writers about the characters’ gender orientation of Marlowe’s Hero and Leander poem. In analyzing the data, for the maindata, the writers usetheprimary data source. As it is a poem that isobserved, the writer uses Hero and Leander poem by Christopher Marlowe, from Renaissance Edition text transcribed by Bear, January 2001, from the 1598 edition (STC number 17413). In order to present the data that has been collected and analyzed, the writer uses thedescriptive technique. It finds that the romantic theme is greatly influenced by the Elizabethan Era and the Roman mythological elements described in the poem. Ambiguous gender orientation also could be discovered in this narrative poem.

The Hymns are copied, without indication of title or authorship, after Musaeus' Hero and Leander (lines 1–245), and before the collected (Proclan and other) Prolegomena to Hesiod A a, b, c, BEF a, b Pertusi, which are followed by Hesiod's Works and Days, Shield and Theogony. These are all in the same hand.

This contribution is a further partial anticipation of the critical edition of the mythological faules by Joan Roís de Corella(15th century) for Editorial Barcino, following a previous one also appeared in Magnificat CLM (3, 2016). It focuses onone of Corella's most mature and significant faules, as well as one of the most prestigious testimonies both of the presence of the myth of Hero and Leander in the Iberian 15th century, and of the peninsular reception of the Heroides. The paper has two parts. The first part, Introduction, summarizes the current situation of the studies related to the Istòria. Next, an analysis of the literary memory that supports the faula’s discursive construction is provided, aiming to demonstrate how it actualizes a game of mirroring, projections, refractions, intertextual references, and symbolic-allusive evocations that make res and characters the revival of a plurality of classical and medieval models. Such a revival becomes loaded of a new pathetic energy. Our analysis is based on certain thematic words and specific topical-rhetorical matrixes, reused either a lo profano or a lo divino, always within the idea of “dying together" and of love beyond death. It focuses on the communication strategies through which this ficció sentimental’s text (a point of convergence for thematic, metaphorical and figural weaving, anchored to the Tristanian, lyrical-amorous, ausiasmarquiana, cancioneril and Passionist imagery of planctus virginis) transforms memory and reuses it into an invention. The second part of the paper is the critical edition of the text. Anticipated by the Criteria of Edition, it contains the Text, with footnotes concerning the constitutio textus, and the Critical Apparatus.

Abstract An analysis of available literary sources showed that the main studies on the study of the species composition of butterflies of the Kurgan Oblast were carried out in the second half of the 20th century. According to literary data, the fauna of the Lepidoptera family Satyridae of the Kurgan Oblast is represented by 24 species. Conducted in 2000-2002 and 2014-2019 in the forest-steppe zone, their own collections and revision of the collection of Kurgan State University confirmed the data of literary sources. Of the 24 satirids species found in the Kurgan Oblast, the Holarctic range is characteristic of only one - C. tullia. The ranges of other species belong to the Palearctic group. Thus, the fauna of the satirids of the Kurgan Oblast by 96% consists of Palearctic species. Of the 23 satirids species with Palearctic ranges, 6 species (L. achine, C. glycerion, C. hero, E. ligea, A. hyperantus, M. dryas) are characterized by a trans-Eurasian temperate-subtropical range, 1 species (L. petropolitana) is assigned to the trans-Eurasian temperate type of the range, 3 (L. maera, C. pamphilus, M. jurtina) have western-central palearctic temperate-subtropical ranges, Euro-Siberian-Central Asian temperate-subtropical range has only 1 species (O. tarpeja), 1 species (E. medusa) is assigned to Euro-Siberian-Central Asian type of range, 8 (C. leander, H. lycaon, H. lupina, P. afra, A. arethusa, C. briseis, C. persephone, M. russiae) have Euro-Kazakhstan temperate-subtropical ranges, 1 species (E. aethiops) is characterized by a Euro-Baikal temperate-subtropical range, the Euro-Baikal subboreal range has 1 species (H. autonoe), the Western Palearctic range is characterized by 1 species (C. arcania). Thus, the fauna of the satirids of the Kurgan region by 96% consists of Palearctic species.

Background: Chimarrogale leander is a species of the family Soricidae and is mainly distributed in southern China. Methods: Here, a complete mitochondrial genome for C. leander was assembled via high-throughput sequencing technology. Results The results showed that the complete mitogenome of C. leander is 17,357 bp and includes 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes and one control region. The nucleotide composition is A: 33.1%, T: 31.5%, C: 22.5% and G: 12.9%. Through the phylogenetic analysis of complete mitochondrial genome, it is found that C. leander has a close genetic relationship with Nectogale elegans. Conclusions: The new mitogenome will hopefully prove useful for systematic analyses of genus Chimarrogale.

Museo es el autor que nos relata la fábula con más profundidad y detalle, dedicándole al asunto un poema completo que consta de trescientos cuarenta y tres versos. Leandro es un joven residente en Abido. Hero es una mujer muy bella de Sesto, sacerdotisa de Afrodita que se mantiene virgen, ignorando el matrimonio y viviendo en una torre con Ia única compañía de una sirvienta.

P/Q-type voltage-dependent Ca2+ channels (VDCCs) are highly expressed in the cerebellum, and mutations of these channels are associated with disrupted motor function. Several allelic variants of the α1A pore-forming subunit of P/Q-type VDCCs have been described, and mice homozygous for these mutations exhibit gait ataxia, as do α1A knockout mice. Here we report that heterozygous α1A mutants also have a motor phenotype. Mice heterozygous for the leaner and α1A knockout mutations exhibit impaired motor learning in the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), suggesting that subtle disruption of P/Q Ca2+ currents is sufficient to disrupt motor function. Basal VOR and optokinetic reflex performance were normal in the heterozygotes but severely impaired in the leaner and α1A knockout homozygotes.

Fresh meat is composed of 70-75% water. Meanwhile, water holding capacity (WHC) affects storage quality, appearance, eating experience, and also contributes to loss of profit for meat entrepreneurs. WHC is influenced by the species, sex, breed, farming practices, as well as post-slaughter storage and handling. Swamp buffalo meat is leaner compared to cattle, goats, and sheep. Therefore, this study aims to determine the WHC of swamp buffalo muscles raised with two herd health programs at different aging periods. A total of 24 months old male swamp buffalo (n=4) was raised with a proper herd health protocol (HHP) and another (n=6) without a proper herd health protocol (NHHP). The drip loss (DL), thawing loss (TL), and cooking loss (CL) for longissimus dorsi (LD), supraspinatus (SS), and semitendinosus (ST) muscles were evaluated on day 1, 7, and 14. Based on the results, only SS and ST from NHHP showed significant differences (P≤0.05), while DL, LD, SS, and ST of the HHP and NHHP also differed significantly (P≤0.05). Furthermore, the TL and CL for all the muscles showed significant differences (P≤0.05) at day 7 of aging in the NHHP group, while on day 14, both were significantly higher in LD and ST muscles of NHHP compared to the HHP group. Therefore, the results showed that the muscles of the HHP group had a better WHC compared to NHHP.

This review summarises the evidence for a link between the porcine intestinal microbiota and growth and feed efficiency (FE), and suggests microbiota-targeted strategies to improve productivity. However, there are challenges in identifying reliable microbial predictors of host phenotype; environmental factors impact the microbe–host interplay, sequential differences along the intestine result in segment-specific FE- and growth-associated taxa/functionality, and it is often difficult to distinguish cause and effect. However, bacterial taxa involved in nutrient processing and energy harvest, and those with anti-inflammatory effects, are consistently linked with improved productivity. In particular, evidence is emerging for an association of Treponema and methanogens such as Methanobrevibacter in the small and large intestines and Lactobacillus in the large intestine with a leaner phenotype and/or improved FE. Bacterial carbohydrate and/or lipid metabolism pathways are also generally enriched in the large intestine of leaner pigs and/or those with better growth/FE. Possible microbial signalling routes linked to superior growth and FE include increased intestinal propionate production and reduced inflammatory response. In summary, the bacterial taxa and/or metabolic pathways identified here could be used as biomarkers for FE/growth in pigs, the taxa exploited as probiotics or the taxa/functionality manipulated via dietary/breeding strategies in order to improve productivity in pigs.

α-Melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) is a critical regulator of energy metabolism. Prolyl carboxypeptidase (PRCP) is an enzyme responsible for its degradation and inactivation. PRCP-null mice ( PRCP gt/gt) showed elevated levels of brain α-MSH, reduced food intake, and a leaner phenotype compared with wild-type controls. In addition, they were protected against diet-induced obesity. Here, we show that PRCP gt/gt animals have improved metabolic parameters compared with wild-type controls under a standard chow diet (SD) as well as on a high-fat diet (HFD). Similarly to when they are exposed to SD, PRCP gt/gt mice exposed to HFD for 13 wk showed a leaner phenotype due to decreased fat mass, increased energy expenditure, and locomotor activity. They also showed improved insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance compared with WT controls and a significant reduction in fasting glucose levels. These improvements occured before changes in body weight and composition were evident, suggesting that the beneficial effect of PRCP ablation is independent of the adiposity levels. In support of a reduced gluconeogenesis, liver PEPCK and G-6-Pase mRNA levels were reduced significantly in PRCPgt/gt compared with WT mice. A significant decrease in liver weight and hepatic triglycerides were also observed in PRCP gt/gt compared with WT mice. Altogether, our data suggest that PRCP is an important regulator of energy and glucose homeostasis since its deletion significantly improves metabolic parameters in mice exposed to both SD and HFD.

Maternal characteristics can affect offspring traits, yet they are seldom included when considering density dependence of juvenile traits and population dynamics. We quantified the influence of population size and maternal traits on body condition of migratory caribou ( Rangifer tarandus (L., 1758)) calves at birth and weaning. We contrasted female–calf pairs of the Rivière-George (RG) herd, which has recently declined to low population size, with pairs of the much larger Rivière-aux-Feuilles (RAF) herd. Calves of the RAF herd were lighter, smaller, and leaner than calves of the RG herd at both birth and weaning. Differences between herds, however, were much greater at weaning than at calving, suggesting a combined effect of herd size and summer range conditions on calf growth. Maternal mass was positively related to calf body condition during both periods. The positive influence of maternal mass on calf body condition was greater for RAF than RG calves at birth, but it was similar for the two herds at weaning. Our results show that the negative effect of population size on calf body condition can be modulated by maternal mass at calving, and that the positive effect of maternal mass is greater at weaning.

The present paper focuses on the economic evaluation of the observed differences in maternal productivity of different genetic lines in Angus cattle that were managed under contrasting nutritional regimes typical of southern Australia. Five hundred Angus cows were managed concurrently at two locations in southern Australia. On each site, the cows were managed under the following two different nutritional treatments: High and Low, to simulate different stocking rates. Cows selected for a divergence in either carcass rib-fat depth or residual feed intake based on mid-parent estimated breeding values for those traits, were allocated in replicate groups to either High- or Low-nutrition treatments. By design, the supplementary feeding regime was the same for the High and Low genetic lines to ensure genetic differences were not confounded with management differences. Animal productivity results from the experiment were used as input data to evaluate the economic performance of the four genetic lines under the two nutritional treatments. Two methods were used; the first was a gross-margin calculation of income minus variable costs as AU$ per breeding cow for a 1000-cow herd; the second was a whole-farm linear programming model maximising the gross margin. Stocking rates were optimised by matching the energy requirements for the whole herd with the energy available from pasture and supplementary feed on a representative 700-ha farm. Using the two methods of calculating gross margin (per cow and optimised per hectare), including examination of sensitivity to changes in prices of cattle and supplementary feed, the present study demonstrated that genetically leaner cows due to selection of low fat or low residual feed intake, had gross margins superior to those of genetically fatter cows. They generated more income by selling more liveweight due to heavier weights and higher stocking rates. The results are affected by the management system utilised and some confounding with growth (leaner genetic lines had higher growth estimated breeding values), but will assist producers to make more informed decisions about how to manage animal breeding and nutritional interactions.

Because they are ‘complex and fascinating’ (Boyd, 2014) and deeply heterogeneous, teenagers’ media and information uses are still the subject of much research. The complexity of these practices requires a relevant holistic approach, able to take into account the multiplicity of contexts of use, the multiplicity of interactions and media or tools used, and able to encompass both what is directly visible and what is implicit (Leander and McKim, 2003). Transliteracy, originally defined by Sue Thomas and colleagues as ‘the ability to read, write and interact across a range of platforms, tools and media from signing and orality through handwriting, print, TV, radio and films, to digital social networks’ (Thomas et al., 2007), seems interesting in this respect and is the basis of our investigation and analysis. The work described here proceeds from a programme funded by the French national research agency (ANR Translit 2013–2016) focusing on the possible faces of transliteracy in action, on how high-school students (15–16 years old) manage information individually and collectively, with all the media and tools available nowadays, and academic requirements and support. The ethnographic methodology included observations of learning situations carried out between November 2013 and March 2015 (two classes of around 30 pupils each and four teachers involved).

In 2014, Nishnaabeg scholar Leanne Simpson connected #BlackLivesMatter and #MMIWG2S by highlighting their existence in “a similar place.” Here, I interpret this as a space of shared emotion and geography, emphasizing the land on which anti-Black and colonial violences occur. I argue that this provides a methodology for the study of multiethnic literature in a way that reckons with the interrelatedness of settler colonialism and anti-Black racism without conflating them under the auspices of “multiculturalism.” I read memoirs by Deborah Miranda and Jesmyn Ward to explore how they articulate the relationship between personal and spatial history.

Abstract Many existing approaches to teaching laypeople to compose are based, to a certain extent, on simply hiding the theoretical background. This is done, for example, by offering ready-made musical events that can be combined in any way to organize them in time. A different approach is taken in the work presented here. As an alternative to classical music theory, with all its complications, the generative composition method Arithmetic Operation Grammar (AOG) is used, which is much easier to learn. This approach has been taken in the conviction that the leaner theory on which it is based, in combination with the compact symbolic representation of entire compositions, can make a significant contribution to bringing forward the “everyday creativity” in the field of ubiquitous music. Furthermore, in the field of sonification, AOG offers the possibility of sonifying data that do not inherently include time as an ordering parameter. To prove practical use of this approach, AOG is combined with a user interface that is more suitable for adults as a target group and another one that is more appropriate for primary school children.

1.Major changes have taken place in the beef industry over recent years - in particular, the introduction of several continental breeds which have the potential for producing larger and leaner carcases. The Canadian Holstein has also been used extensively in the dairy industry, replacing British Friesians, with the result that beef cross carcasses from the dairy herd have tended to be larger and have poorer conformation.2.As a consequence of these changes there is concern in the industry that beef of poorer eating quality is now being produced. For this reason, and to aid in the development of MLC's Blueprint for beef eating quality, this trial was set up in collaboration with Genus to evaluate the eating quality of two traditional British beef breeds and four continental breeds slaughtered at different fatness levels. 3.All progeny included in the trial were from Holstein Friesian type dams. They were sired by the following breeds:- Limousin (LM), Charolais (CH), Belgian Blue (BB), Piemontese (PM), Aberdeen Angus (AA) or Hereford (HF) and were finished on an 18 month beef production system.

The aims of this studywas to review the practical of the immediate vaginal diagnosis by Gram staining in the gynecological practice. The elucidation and characterization of the vaginal microorganisms is important for providing a better understanding of the women’s health and diseases, as well as the search for adequate diagnosis and treatment. Here we described the processes about the approaches in gynecological medical education scenery and its new perspectives in a dynamic and humanized way. However, due the constant changes in the health field, it is fundamentally important that the physicians and the multidisciplinary team are well trained to promote welfare of the patients, using the leaned resources acquired from their formation to better attend the population.
