Abstract Given the Corpus Hermeticum’s history of formation, it has prompted the attempt to separate layers or groups of writings within the collection of treatises. This process of division, which was for the most part undertaken on criteria of content (dualism, pantheism, etc.), has been viewed rather negatively by the more recent research, on grounds of method. Given the discovery of numerous doctrinal contents that remain constant across different treatises, increased efforts are being made to reconstruct the Corpus’s moments of unity. The present paper aims, in this spirit, to provide a more precise identification of the overarching forms of theological thought in the Hermetic writings. The reflections that follow aim to make it plausible that the defining form of theological thought in the Corpus Hermeticum can be classified as panentheism. In addition, the distinctive form of this influential theological paradigm in the Hermetic writings will be considered.

AbstractAlchemical writings of Arabic origin introduced into the Latin natural philosophy of the twelfth century a cosmological issue that was at variance with Aristotelian cosmology: the idea of a subtle substance that stood at the origin of the four elements and encompassed heaven and earth. In this article, I consider the links of this notion with Hermetic and Stoic thought; its association with the technical process of distillation; its emergence in some philosophical texts of the early thirteenth century; and finally its full development in two fourteenth century alchemical treatises, the Testamentum attributed to Raimond Lull and the Liber de consideratione quintae essentiae written by John of Rupescissa.

Abstract Heidegger's many observations about the philosophical thought of the Middle Ages, while often controversial, are deserving of attention. One of the lesser-known of these observations reflects his interest in hermetic philosophy, as found in his posthumously published treatise Die Negativität (1938/39), a critical engagement with Hegel with regard to the nature and ontological status of negation. Therein, Heidegger associates the acpoupa of Parmenides with the sphaera intelligibi-lis of Hermes Trismegistus and the absolute Idee of Hegel and therewith Plato's doctrine of the ideas in its absolute-idealist modification. Heidegger weaves these various strands of the tradition into a web of manifold significations representative of different yet related philosophical intentions.

The religious thought of Václav Havel is examined in the context of Czech and American intellectual and spiritual traditions. The line begins with the worldview canonized by T. G. Masaryk. Masaryk drew inspiration from the American tradition of religious thought, rooted in the Enlightenment deistic interpretation of Christianity, embodied in Unitarianism. It was this line of thought that was passed down to Václav Havel by his father V. M. Havel. Masaryk’s “Unitarian” style of thinking about religion was developed by Havel in his Letters to Olga. During the 1970s, this influence merges with another intellectual stream, the “Kampademia” group. This line of thought combines Patočka’s tradition of phenomenology with new philosophical approaches to Catholicism and stimulated by the American “New Science”. According to Masaryk’s “enlightened” and “Unitarian” tradition, old religion, expressed with the aid of rituals, was to be surpassed and replaced by a “scientific” and “progressive” religion. For the tradition of Kampademia, on the other hand, it is this old religion, with its myths and rituals, that should be revived. Thus, Havel takes seriously the basis of all ancient spiritual traditions—Christian, Jewish, “heathen,” hermetic. It is in this public and symbolic appeal to “old” religious traditions before the eyes of a secular Czech society, this readiness to learn from the experiences of other traditions, and the declared humility to not attempt a synthesis of these traditions (as according to “classic” New Age) that Havel’s primary contribution to the spiritual thought of the present can be found.

Background: Chemistry as experimental science began in the seventeenth century, when it began moving away from being one of the alchemical doctrines and toward analyzing matter and its transformations using scientific methods. Previously, the ancient Pre-Socratic philosophy through observation of nature was concerned with the laws that govern the natural world and the property of matter. Later, the Hellenistic Alexandrian culture took possession of the Hermetic doctrines of the Egyptians, mixing them with pre-Socratic thought and Gnosticism. At this historical moment, therefore, there was a fusion of the Greek philosophical patrimony and the Hellenistic and Alexandrian influences on medicine. The Hermetic gnosis evolved over time to become alchemy and then to usher in the birth of chemical science. Many doctors were wandering philosophers who dealt with cosmogony to understand the body and diseases and to discover new healing drugs for treatment, and thus they were the first chemist therapists. Methods: The influence of ancient physicians through the pre-Socratic philosophy for these prochemical theories and practice has been researched through ancient texts, so these texts have been referenced to determine the legacy of paleo-chemicals doctrines. Results: The study of various texts in particular from the Pre-Socratic age and the eminent physicians underline that, despite a different approach to the cosmogonic concepts of nature and the matter, the medicine of that age had an important influence on chemistry as an experimental science, especially concerning therapy with drugs. Conclusions: The Pre-Socratic philosophers have influenced the medical practice and guided it toward the concept of the properties of matter for medical treatment and an understanding of the causes of diseases.

Questions concerning the significance and meaning of sacrifice in our secular age, whether in the form of a ritualized or purely contemplative construct, lay bare much that is problematic and troubling about modern consciousness. This paper examines the mortuary significance of baptism and its influence on architecture, drawing comparison between Early Christian and modern views of sacrifice. By referring to key theological writings, the study considers the baptistery as a site of human conversion where the search for redemption unfolds as both a cosmological and mytho-historical drama. The investigation distinguishes between the literal meaning of sacrifice and its more complex Platonic-Christian symbolism, the latter defining the nature of human piety and ultimate spiritual immortality. The study concludes with an examination of the baptismal font at St Peter's in Klippan. It asks whether this seminal work attests to a continuity of symbolic meanings or whether it is the product of hermetic thought.

Francisco Campos analyzes the classic “Don Quixote de la Mancha” in his essay “Atualidade de D. Quixote (Contemporaneity of D. Quixote)”, in order to trace the spiritual crisis of modern times and the feeling of despair currently lived by men. Three hallmark figures of literature are featured in Campos’ narrative: Hamlet, Faust, and D. Quixote. Hamlet and Faust represent the cowardly hesitation and the hermetic art and literature of liberal intellectuals, who are unable to communicate collective experiences to organize a social order of stability. This makes possible for Campos to state his strong criticism toward liberal institutions and ideas, in a Schmittian anti-liberal bias. It is necessary to recover the rationale of D. Quixote, who, with his amor fati (love for the common destiny), decides, as a statesman, to “transform thought into will and will into action”. It is an arduous civilizing task of making the masses a cohesive people, obedient, civilized and united in a common superior order (the National State), guided by Catholic values, and willing to fight against the enemy. It is only possible to save democracy from “cataclysm” if the call for the final Crusade is accepted. Hence the Contemporaneity of D. Quixote. This article intends to carry out an interpretive effort of the essay Contemporaneity of D. Quixote, in order to highlight some aspects of the anti-liberal political and constitutional thought by Campos.

Despite a surfeit of studies recognizing Cotton Mather's support for a range of alchemical and occult practices, historians have yet to integrate these occult activities with Mather's religious and scientific thought as a whole. I argue that we can bring clarity to Mather's engagement with the occult by refracting it through his reverence for Lutheran Pietist Johann Arndt, whose writings, especiallyVier bucher vom wahren Christentum (Four Books of True Christianity), offer a key to Mather's employment of hermetic materials in his major works of natural philosophy. Through analysis ofThe Christian PhilosopherandThe Angel of Bethesda,as well as Mather's private writings, I suggest that Mather's cosmology was vitalistic in ways not previously acknowledged by historians. This view of creation as dynamic, enchanted, and marked by divine signatures—evidenced most clearly in Mather's concept of thenishmath-chajim—helped Mather reconcile the new science, Puritan covenant theology, and alchemical traditions descending from Paracelsus. By positing a divine, dynamic presence in nature, Mather retained an orthodox view of God as sovereign and transcendent while intimately engaged in a process of cosmic redemption, slowly transmuting the base matter of a fallen creation into a new heaven and new earth.

The culture of ancient Greece, and particularly its philosophy, contains paradigms that are predetermining, binding and eternally valid for the entire body of European culture. European culture and, in its distinctive way, Serbian culture, as an important dynamic motif has the need to constantly revisit Hellenic culture. This is in fact a productive (re) interpretation as a way of acquiring cultural self-awareness and self-knowledge. The entire cosmos and human fate in it are revealed in Hellenic thought as both a riddle and a secret. Both of these relationships to reality, in the model form found already in the work of Heraclitus, still characterize human thought and creation. The world seen as a riddle to be solved is the subject of many a discipline, and the secret that reveals itself to us provides the basis of faith and all arts. Two Serbian poets (although there are more) acquired their creative self-awareness around Heraclitus? concept of fire. In his scholarly and philosophical treatises Laza Kostic (1841-1910) turned to Heraclitus in a bid to solve the riddle of reality. In his contemplative-poetic works Branko Miljkovic (1934-1961) turned to Heraclitus seeking to uncover the secret of nothingness in the latter?s fire and to learn from the Ephesian?s foretokening that poetry is hermetic and loves to hide. Is there a deeper logic linking riddle and secret? Do science, philosophy, art and faith have a deeper unity? The answers are to be sought in Laza?s and Branko?s understanding of Heraclitus? fire.

<p><em>In the 50´s, Le Corbusier publishes two books, Le Modulor (1950) and Le Poème de l´Angle Droit (1955). They are extremely important given that they represent the synthesis of his architectural thought at the height of his career. In both, references can be observed to the duality of male-female, which do not seem to have been previously part of the architect´s consistent theoretical body. One decade later, duality imbues the architectural critics, who interpret it as the opposition between two residential projects from early 1920´s, the Maisons Monol and the Maisons Citrohan. Both projects are proclaimed as a germ of two genealogical lines which come to an end with the Villas Sarabhai and Shodhan in the 50´s. They are related respectively with two concepts "architecture femelle" and "architecture mâle", cited by Le Corbusier in Le Modulor. However, the exhaustive analysis of the paradigm of both architectures through different periods, a complete reading of both texts and its relationship with Le Corbusier´s pictorial production, brings to light the importance of ambiguity and polysemy in the architect's work, which is difficult to divide in hermetic categories.</em></p>

AbstractHelena Blavatsky (1831–1891) developed a program of salvation that she called “double evolution,” which was elaborated in a system known as root race theory. Human souls were seen as traversing through progressive reincarnation a series of seven “races,” or body types, ranging from gigantic amorphous and ethereal bodies and transitioning through hermaphroditic into gigantic gendered ape-like humans, modern humans, and thereafter adepts and divine beings. Although root race theory drew from the scientific racism of its day, it did not equate root races with human races, but to stages of human emanation from and return to divinity. The sources of root race theory have been sought in Eastern contexts due to its use of Hindu and Buddhist terminology, though scholars have noted its Western esoteric influences. This article argues that the primary structure of root race theory is based in the Corpus Hermeticum. It identifies some of Blavatsky’s Hermetic sources, showing that she referred not only generally to a perennialist “Hermetic philosophy” that incorporated Western esoteric tropes, but also to specific Hermetic texts. These texts provided the organizing matrix of root race theory, specifically its creation mythology, support for prior androgyne human existence, a “fall into matter,” and the initial ensoulment of humans with mind, ornous. It also provided a template for the future transformation of humans into divine beings. The article builds on the suggestions of Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke (2013) and Brendan French (2001) to elaborate on the role of Hermetic influence in Blavatsky’s reconfiguring of evolution as a novel form of salvation for an empirically-oriented nineteenth century audience.

This article explores the Hellenic/Christian synthesis of bishop Synesius and its later influence, especially on nineteenth-century America. Synesius accepted a bishopric despite Neoplatonic reservations concerning Christian doctrine: the uncreated soul pre-exists; the uncreated cosmos is eternal; and the “resurrection” an ineffable mystery, beyond the vulgar. Whether or not born a Christian, his study under Hypatia brought about a conversion to “pagan” Neoplatonism. His attempted synthesis of Hellenism and Christianity was unique, unlike that of any other late antique Christian Platonist. Later, Renaissance thinkers scanned a new religious horizon reviving Hellenic Neoplatonism, Hermetic thought, Pythagoreanism, etc., included in a “primordial revelation,” contemporaneous with the Mosaic revelation and thereby in harmony with Christianity. In Romantic-era England, Thomas Taylor revived Hellenic Neoplatonism as the “true” religion, in the spirit of the anti-Christian theurgic Neoplatonist Roman emperor, Julian. Taylor had a significant influence on the American “Synesii,” Transcendentalists and Neoplatonists, e.g., on Bronson Alcott’s Platonic/Pythagorean lifestyle. Reading Taylor’s translations, Ralph Waldo Emerson spoke of the “Trismegisti” whose Neoplatonic religion predated and superseded “parvenu” Christianity. Later Transcendentalists continued the work of Taylor, sympathizing with late antique “pagan” Neoplatonism, but, in the spirit of Synesius, synthesizing it with Christianity and with other religions. They sought a non-sectarian, universal “cosmic theism,” notably through Thomas M. Johnson’s journal, The Platonist, which included translations of Synesius and other Neoplatonists. One of its contributors, Alexander Wilder, also influenced Theosophy on its Neoplatonic side. More recent Anglophone “Synesii” include Hilary Armstrong, who was a major presence in Neoplatonic scholarship, both in the uk and North America. He argued for a return to Hellenic inclusive monotheism, in which a Christian Platonist, like himself, could also venerate Hindu or Isis’ holy images as being true reflections of the divine.

The notion of transcendental love in the context of “the eternal return”, the motif of Eros, and the image of a woman are discussed in Marcelijus Martinaitis’s book “Atmintys: meilės lyrikos albumas” (Eng. Reminiscences: the album of love lyrics”) (2008). The methods of mythopoetic thought, comparativistics, and interpretative mind have been applied. On the basis of the Bible, mythology, the notion of and relation between Eros and Love, also combining notions developed by philosophers as Nikolai Berdyaev, Erich Fromm, Vladimir Solovyev, phenomenologists as Algis Mickūnas, Mircea Eliade, Plato, and insights by popes Paul VI and Benedict XVI, a concept which might be useful in deciphering the language of love in Marcelijus Martinaitis’s book is introduced. The primary code of the album of love is the concept of memory and the notion of love as seen by Oskaras Milašius, while the secondary code relates to Dante, chivalric romance of Provence troubadours, legends of King Arthur, Celtic mythology. The genre of M. Martinaitis’s reminiscences was born when the poet was studying in Gervinės, and the first collection of Reminiscences appeared in 1986. The text of Reminiscences was seen as hermetic, intertextual, reflecting the act of cosmogony and antropogony in permanent space-time. The process of word re-creation is associated with archetypal consciousness, and the cycle of “the eternal return” prevails. Love is perceived as transcendental and existential basis, a purpose to merge with God, God’s gift to humanity, and the vision of love object. Eros (passion) is ambivalent: it is earthly / heavenly, sinful / divine, creating / destructive, and driving power of creation. A woman is seen as earthly / sensual, divine / unreachable. An issue which motif (Christian or courtesan literature) dominates in the album of love lyrics is discussed. Album is of great interest as an immanent text.

The aim of the article is to research one of the segments of modern historiographical situation. The use of methods of historiographical analysis allows to identify the state of development of the issue and to offer methodological recommendations for determining the prospects of historiographical synthesis. It is determined that the traditions of studying social and intellectual history in Ukrainian historiography began to develop in the second half of the 19th century. However, the evolution of these areas in the world humanities had a very superficial impact on it. Historiographic inertia still rather rigidly outlines the disciplinary fields. Thus, the key research object for intellectual history is still the history of political thought, for social history – the history of large social groups. Historians are still interested in socio-political currents, social and economic processes and phenomenon in frames established by Soviet and nationally-oriented historiography. Personological and ideological canons, formed in the early 20th century, with minor changes survived up to the 21st century as a set of ideas and figures responsible predominantly for the Ukrainian national revival. Insufficient basis on empirical material and superficial fascination with theoretical constructions did not allow reaching a more adequate level of understanding of past reality. Some attempts to overcome the disciplinary distinction and research inertia did not cause fundamental changes. The scientific novelty is connected with comprehension of practical experience and observations of the historiographical process, which led to the belief that the time of hermetic approaches has passed. Despite some doubts about potential of interdisciplinarity, that have emerged recently, we think that the unity of social and intellectual history may demonstrate a new quality in comprehension of the native past. In conclusion, it is emphasized that the interaction of these areas under the label of еру social history of ideas dictates the expansion of sources, personalities and methodological approaches, which allows neutralizing the beliefs that precede research and analytical categories to be born from empirical data. It turned out that the synthesis of mental and social-economic can be quite productive. It can essentially change the notions on both socio-economic peculiarities and intellectual situation in Ukrainian regions of the Russian empire. Type of article: theoretical and methodological.

Abstract The first book of the Hermetic Kyranides consists of 24 alphabetical chapters, one each listing a plant, a bird, a stone, and a fish, whose names all begin with the same letter of the Greek alphabet, and expounding their medical and magical properties. Even though the book deals entirely with the issue of natural sympathies and antipathies employed to attain various ends, it surprisingly lacks a great number of astrological references. My purpose in this paper is to analyze the rare and quite implicit at times relationships among stars and plants, including plant products, tracked down in the text.

Abstract Vertical condensation of gutta-percha is one of the frequently used techniques of hermetic and three-dimensional obturation of root canal system which is one of the primary goals of endodontic tooth treatment. Techniques for filling root canals have been described since ancient Egypt and have undergone dynamic development in recent decades. The aim of the article is to analyze the technique of obturation of root canals using vertical condensation of guttapercha and to point out its benefits and pitfalls. The poor-quality treatment of the tooth deteriorates its prognosis, function, and long-term survival in the oral cavity; thus, the hermetic obturation of the root canals is one of the most important pillars of the complex tooth treatment. Obturation of the root canals by vertical condensation of warm gutta-percha is nowadays considered in the correct indications as one of the most commonly used techniques in the excellent dental practices. Even though it is quite technologically challenging and time-consuming it enables to reach high level of predictability and clinical success. Currently, the obturation technique based on master gutta-percha cone combined with the calcium-silicate based sealer is emerging. However, long term results of clinical studies and follow-up are needed to make a significant improvement in the area of endodontics.

Ziziphus mauritiana Lam. (jujube) is a valuable commercial fruit crop that is delicious and an effective herbal remedy. In the Sahel region of Africa, the jujube fruits are harvested from the wild and eaten dry. Postharvest management poses challenges due to insects, which leads to the degradation of the quality of the fruits. We assessed the performance of the Purdue Improved Crop Storage (PICS) bags for preserving dried jujube fruits from three regions of Niger. After four months of storage, we measured infestation levels, sugar content, and organoleptic parameters. Insect (Aubeus himalayanus Voss) population (though low at the beginning) and the number of fruits with holes increased in polypropylene (PP, control) bags by 100 to 212.50% and 7.58 to 12.96%, respectively. The fruit weight loss in PP treatments ranged from 4.64 to 9.94%. In PICS bags, however, pest infestations and damages were comparable to those observed at the initial stage. No significant differences were observed in sugar content of dried jujube fruits kept in PICS and PP bags after four months of storage. No changes were seen in the quality and organoleptic properties of jujube fruits stored in PICS bags; however, they appeared to decrease in PP bags. PICS bags can be effectively used to preserve the quality of dried jujube fruits in the Sahel.

In the European philosophical tradition there is a dialogue between two different guidelines - objectivity and the appeal to symbolic and allegoric thought. In the 17th century science plays a dominant part but mystery and hermetism are also present. Ralph Cudworth represents this line of thought as he deals with the relations between reason and faith, philosophy and theology, spirit and matter, innatism and experience. Cudworth tried to establish links between the Cabala and ancient and modern thought, establishing a dialogue with philosophers such as Descartes, Hobbes, Espinosa, Locke and Leibniz. While trying to conciliate different points of view, he strived in the search of universal truths that would satisfy everybody.

Abstract Even though the main problems of transsphenoidal surgery are encountered during the intra- and suprasellar portions of the operation, proper reconstruction of the sella turcica plays an important role in the overall results, greatly influencing the final outcome. Improper measures may bring about a complicated postoperative course, whereas a wise and precise method allows one to control any surgical condition, preventing the more dangerous consequences of the transsphenoidal approach (i.e., empty sella, cerebrospinal fluid leakage, hemorrhage, infection, etc.). The authors review the different methods of sellar plugging and, on the basis of their own experience, indicate the most suitable one for each of the more usual situations. A good result is achievable if only natural materials are used and one avoids synthetic prostheses. Extradural packing is the technique of choice whenever a hermetic closure and a particularly effective intrasellar plug are required.

Organic waste from processing fishery products can be a serious problem if not handled properly, as the number increases every year. Though the content of nutrients in the waste is still high, especially protein content. The bioconversion process of organic matter from the waste is expected to be able to overcome the problems of industrial waste and increase its added value. Bioconversion using insect larvae Hermetia illucens has many advantages than other conversion processes. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of larvae in reducing the waste fishery industry. Waste used in this study was head of the tuna, with feeding rates of 60, 80 and 100 mg/larva/day. 200 larvae were used in each treatment and 3 replications. Observation time and culturing of larvae was 19 days then calculated substrate reduction, waste reduction index (WRI), the weight of larvae and protein and lipids content. The result of observations showed that feeding rate 60 mg/larva/day give optimum on parameters. The substrate reduction was 77.09%, WRI 4.06 (% / day), the weight of larva was 72.59 mg. Protein content 25.38 % (wb) and lipids 6.85 % (wb). According to that result, it could be to concluded that larvae have potential as an agent of reducing of waste fishery products.

A close analysis of the views on man in the Nag Hammadi texts reflects that the tripartite pattern distinguishing three elements in the human being (intellect or spirit, soul and body), even if majoritarian, is not the only one at work in the corpus: there is also a group of texts reflecting rather a bipartite scheme discriminating between soul and body only. Irrelevant though it may seem, this difference is seminal, since it not only implies a different psychology, or theory of the soul, but also a different cosmology, which in its turn also involves a dissimilar soteriology or theory concerning man’s salvation. The present study, the first in a series of five, provides a first and general approach that intends to establish the existence of these two differentiated anthropological patterns in the Nag Hammadi corpus. Following studies will offer a more detailed and separate analysis of the textual evidence, assessing the anthropological frameworks behind the different textual groups allegedly found in the corpus, namely the Valentinian, Sethian, Hermetic and Thomasine texts.

His career in the medical service of the court was prompted by an early protection assured to him by the chancellor Pierre Séguier, and then reinforced by the fact that he stood high both in Richelieu's and in Mazarin's favour. A polymath, Cureau wrote at first some physical essays on various arguments ― the nature of light and of the rainbow, for instance ―, rather precociously claiming the right to use French in scientific matters. His major contribution, though, aimed to a thorough knowledge of man, i.e. of his propensities and passions, vices and virtues. In what he called L'Art de connoistre les hommes, classic physiognomy merged with other techniques, and with a peculiar, sort of hermetic worldview, into a new discipline, wich should have served in everyday life and in the management of public affairs as well.

In “My heart laid bare” Baudelaire writes about the “Universal Religion” devised for “the alchemists of thought,” “a religion that comes from man, considered as a divine memento.” The idea, as we read in the text, was inspired by the writings of Chateaubriand, De Maistre and those of the “Alexandrians”. And indeed, the two former authors wrote explicitly about a „universal tradition” that finds its fulfillment in the Catholic religion. It does not matter if we recognize the “Alexandrians” as representatives of the Neoplatonic school, the Alexandrian Fathers of Church, or disciples of Hermetism, the very term implies a tradition of both syncretic and mystic character that resembles gnosis. Baudelaire’s “Universal Religion,” despite his Catholic convictions, cannot be associated with Catholicism. Based on a universal transmission of myths and symbols, it rather refers to eternal truths about man as well as to the divine source of all beings – also in the modern world, which puts God’s existence in doubt.

Hermetic cold storage without previous drying (wet–cold storage) was experimented for the preservation of yam pollen grains. Pollens collected from white yam D. rotundata and a wild relative, D. praehensilis, were stored at −80, −20, 5, and 15 °C in sealed packs for 2 years. Pollen samples were drawn for in vitro germination tests after 100 and 700 days, and hand pollination was conducted after 365 and 730 days in storage. Pollen germination responses were not significantly different among the two species. Though pollen maintained germination capacity at all the storage temperature regimes, there was a significant loss in the viability of pollen stored at 5 and 15 °C after 100 days of storage. After 700 days in storage, pollens stored at 5 and 15 °C had lost germination capacity while there were no significant differences in the germination of fresh pollen and pollen frozen at −80 and −20 °C. Hand pollination with pollen of D. rotundata frozen at −80 °C for 365 days gave 69·5% fruit set and 50% fruit set after 730 days in storage. From these results, the wet–freeze procedure appears promising to execute the establishment of pollen gene banks for yam breeding and for conservation of haploid gene pool of yams in base collections. A pollen storage protocol based on the procedure is recommended.

In the contemporary world, communication goes far beyond the well-known traditional written or spoken forms. For today's digital users, these have become insufficient, as using them, they cannot express their thoughts fully. The youth that has developed its own language, has become more hermetic, but not because it rejects other generations. The reason is the inability of older generations to understand the new ways of communication. Seniors find it challenging to learn how to use new technologies and stay up to date with trends. Although young people are able to understand them, the older generation cannot keep up with the news and stays excluded. The lack of mutual understanding results in weaker bonds. Once again, it is possible to observe ICT as a contemporary key competence essential for an adequate, mutually comprehensible exchange of messages. The best way to connect two generations in this aspect is informal education, especially one focusing on intergenerational activities, which will not only reduce the exclusion of a social group such as seniors but will also let them to develop their critical thinking skills, which in the age of the Internet are crucial. Bringing up both generations in two different 'normalities' does not make any of them inferior but simply different. Investing in education, the desire for self-development and learning about the culture of different generations will not only open people's minds but will also have a positive impact on the development of intergenerational solidarity and mutual understanding.

This study could perhaps be characterized as the art of walking in time, verbally, pictorially and abstractly, i.e. using words, images and thoughts. Of course, the ideal of essayism also includes a scientific dimension. Equally the aim is to make multi-level use of the idea of dialogue. At the same time, the writer is also carrying on a monologue (with himself), an aspect that is called dialogic monologue. After all, the respondent, too, is himself the questioner. Architecture and the essay are reminiscent of each other. The created building and the created word are close relatives. An essayistic study signifies a hermetic state of language. A text’s inner verbal room is constructed from a circle of ideas. Roundness means enclosure: then there is an end at the beginning and a beginning at the end. Yet space is not circumscribed and confined. The actual beginning and end are always located outside the respective verbal room. The spiral of deduction forms a linguistic wisp and whirl that begins and ends as a chronological sequence. The past points forward to the future, and the future looks back to the bygone. The deepening of ideas means passing through several verbal rooms and, during that journey, conclusions will be refined. The Waves of Time, just as the Aaltos of their time, are surges of masterfulness. Glimpses of life mean flashes of Finnishness. They are collective snapshots: excerpts from a shared national story.

Shahrur's anxiety began with the cessation of the understanding of the muhkamat verses which should continue to develop in accordance with the times, according to Syahrur that understanding was influenced by the thoughts of the previous scholars who were still shackled from the traditional Fiqh concept. against the Qur'an and Hadith with a hermenetic approach, and linguistic. In redefining laws relating to humans, Shahrur does not use qiyas and ijma 'of the scholars, so understanding the Qur'an is purely a textual approach. Syahrur believes that there is no synonymity in at Tanzil, so that each text stands alone and has its own meaning. Whereas the Sunnah is the first form of understanding of the Prophet Muhammad, in other words that the understanding of the prophet is the first step towards understanding the Qur'an and the opening of subsequent understandings in accordance with the context and age at which Tanzil is located.

Abstract Parakatatheke and last wills: on the background of D. 32.37.5. Already Hans Julius Wolff refused the idea of a hermetical isolation between Roman law and local (provincial) legal practice in everyday life. Following his trace, this contribution will show that legal intercourse between different classes of provincial populace was far more intensive than generally assumed. Focusing on the period before the Constitutio Antoniniana (212 AD), a detailed exegesis of a unique decision of Scaevola follows. The Roman jurist delivers a paradigmatic case: He settles a dispute in which the Greek formula of parakatatheke was used by a Roman citizen for disposing about his assets on death. In fact, the legal act should be considered ineffective under Roman law. However, Scaevola looked for ways to enforce the claim. Roman law and provincial legal custom: Scaevola’s decision sheds a new light on the creative approach of Roman jurisdiction regarding foreign legal thoughts.

Contemporary architectural practice posits the City as an agglomeration of built fabric and its resultant spaces; congruent theories of place attempt to discern opportunities and create methodologies to engage with and inhabit this fabric. These theories of urbanism are reacting to a socio-economic culture that demands precision, rationality and above all clarity, producing a spatial realm increasingly branded, deracinated and politically circumscribed – clearly defined, delineated and described. Architectural pedagogy is often troubled because of its service to colonization: form serving image, function slaved to economics, space subsumed into spectacle. The City, though, is fluctuating, multifunctional and elusive – demanding a conceptual entanglement of impermanence and incompletion. To explore the gap between professional practice and intuitive inhabitation, the Urban Islands project was developed. Urban Islands is an independent intensive studio programme run for two weeks each July on Sydney’s Cockatoo Island. The studios are run by emerging architects selected from around the world, and engage master’s students from six different Australian universities, in an environment meant to unsettle, unmoor and ultimately, enlighten. Deliberately eschewing linear and hermetic modes of studio discourse and instruction, the programme instead adopts strategies of wandering and migration to create an immersive investigative environment. Urban Islands utilizes narrative, fiction and a hermeneutical approach to education to re-theorize the studio. Subsequent re-readings and misreadings of place offer its participants agency in determining their roles in that space, as well as allowing for new ways to both measure and mark the earth. This article outlines the constituent conceptual concerns informing the programme, illustrated by select examples of work that enmesh analytical theory and creative design practice to propose an expanded geography of the city, one of excisions and allegory and, most importantly, one wide open to interpretation.

The article notes a marked preference given by the philological investigations of the last decades for the discourse-centered approach to analyzing a literary text, a poetic text in particular. The major idea that makes the sense and pathos of this publication is that the text-centered approach, as distinct from the discourse-centered one and applied much less frequently, is feasible due to the fact that any «high-grade» literary text is of value by itself: its faultless perception and correct assessment by the recipient do not require involvement of cultural and historic context and appeal to the broad literary context. Moreover, the first and foremost condition of the existence of a unique cultural artifact, i.e. a quality literary text, is nothing but its formal and semantic self-dependence, therefore it is self-containment, that is autonomy. The prime example is Joseph Brodsky’s 16-line poetic miniature «She Puts on the Stockings and Fall Comes...» written in 1994. It undergoes a deep line-by-line semantic and stylistic analysis with a focus on the parameters demonstrating the choice of a dominant sensory canal (vision, audition, partly smell), an object of poetic description (a portrait, landscape, indoor scenes), a dynamic / static description. The article has noted the textual semantic «frame» reflecting expressly realistic impres- sions; at the same time, everything embraced by the «frame» reflects the inner world of the character, his flash-back, doubts, self-reflection, emotions. The conclusion of the paper is as follows: the author’s literary skill, his technique, mastery of the language means and control of speech including its «accelera- tion» and «moderation», individual poetic taste and intuition are all embodied in the literary result that needs no special search for any extra-textual links and their obligatory involvement in the perception and comprehension of the text. Brodsky’s poem is not an only literary example; it clearly demonstrates a case when the poet, without too much effort, manages «to button up the beauty», i.e. the aesthetic dominant of his personal world (outlook), art, senses, thoughts, soul, «in the dark tower of poem» (Pasternak), turn this dominant into something hermetic and intimate, and on the other hand open to an attentive reader.

AbstractJohn Wilkins’s Mercury or the Secret and Swift Messenger: Showing How a Man May with Privacy and Speed Communicate His Thoughts to a Friend at Any Distance was first published in 1641. As a book on cryptography presenting a variety of secret means of communication at a distance it seems to have appeared at just the right time, when the biblical curse of the confusion of tongues was doubled by the curse of political confusion on the brink of the English civil war. However, the book seems to be more than just a detailed account of methods of secret writing; its topic gives the author a chance to present his views on language which he would later develop in his life’s work An Essay towards Real Character and a Philosophical Language published in 1668. The Essay had received much greater critical attention than the early pamphlet, which is usually referred to as merely a prelude to an account of his universal language project. Indeed, in the little book on cryptography, Wilkins already demonstrated his awareness of the conventional character of language and its role within the system of human interactions, as well as advertised a project of philosophical language that would enhance communication between all nations and remedy the curse of Babel. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that the value of the pamphlet lies also in the insight that it gives into the seventeenth-century debates on the nature of language and into arguments which were often provided, in equal measure, by theology, Hermetic lore, mythology, literature and early modern science. Wilkins’s meticulous recording of the contradictory views and propositions on language produces a sense of methodological inconsistency that leads to ambiguities and paradoxes. However, in the medley of concepts and the collection of linguistic “curiosities” that Mercury presents, a careful reader will discern the growing mistrust of language as a means of representing reality and as a foundation of knowledge, which was one of the symptoms of the general crisis of representation leading to an epistemological shift that started in the seventeenth century.

For commercially available lithium ion batteries, the package structures can accounts for as much as 70 percent of its volume. In a multi-year effort, we have developed designs, fabrications, and assembly processes for ultrahigh energy density micro batteries of 5 and 1 cubic millimeter. Over the course of the research, the packaging system evolved due to changes or limitation specific to the battery system itself. During the study, improvements in the construction of the housing for the cathodes were made. Anodized aluminum cans fabricated through our in-house micro-machining facility replaced the electroformed gold cans used in earlier experiments. Throughout the iteration of the can design, a flange around its open end, which would be used for sealing, was present, and both designs were fabricated as arrays. The ability to fabricate the housings in an array format lends it to be implemented into a scalable production assembly process. Materials evaluated for the cover ranged from copper foil to the final design of metalized sapphire with a plated though via. One area which needed to be addressed was reducing the temperature of the assembly process due to a change in the cell materials. This resulted in developing a low temperature hermetic sealing process. The seal between the cover and can was made using a novel composite ring of indium and epoxy. The indium provided the hermeticity needed for the battery chemistry and the epoxy provided mechanical robustness. Most of our experience was with sealing temperatures of 100°C, but the sealing temperature is only limited by the cure temperature of the epoxy. One experiment was conducted to look at the reliability of the seal. A dozen one cubic-millimeter cells were filled with lithium and sealed. They were aged in laboratory ambient environment and periodically weighed. There was no weight gain in any of the cells over the course of several months, but one cell which was opened at the end of the experiment rapidly gained weight as the lithium corroded. The micro-battery cell developed in this program used a lithium cobalt oxide cathode in the form of a porous sintered compact. Its bottom surface was coated with a gold film so that it could be thermocompression bonded to a gold bump on the bottom of the can. Following bonding, the cathode assembly was spray coated with a polymer separator. The anode was a piece of lithium metal bonded to the battery cover. After the cover was sealed to the battery can, the cell was filled with electrolyte and charged. Then a plug was inserted in the via through the cover to seal the battery. Batteries assembled in this manner exhibited energy densities in excess of 200 Wh/l for the smaller volumetric package.

Resumo: O artigo discute a opinião de Hilda Hilst sobre leitor, obra e posteridade recorrendo às entrevistas concedidas pela autora ao longo de sua trajetória literária e reunidas por Diniz (2013), bem como à biografia escrita por Folgueira e Destri (2018). Tendo frequentemente se queixado de não possuir leitores, de sua obra ser inédita ao público, de ser mal distribuída por seus editores e acusada de hermética, Hilda Hilst não interrompeu sua produção que se estendeu desde a publicação do primeiro livro, em 1950, até apresentar sua despedida do sagrado ofício da escrita com o último de textos inéditos, em 1997. De posse das informações disponibilizadas tanto nas entrevistas quanto na biografia mencionadas, torna-se evidente o entendimento de que havia uma preocupação por parte da poeta paulista, ainda que se tenha negado sucessivamente a “descobrir” quem era o seu leitor, de que sua obra fosse conhecida, reconhecida, objeto de estudo e se mantivesse em cena mesmo após a sua morte, fatos para os quais a compra de parte de seus arquivos pelo Centro de Documentação Cultural Alexandre Eulálio, da UNICAMP, o projeto da editora Globo de publicar a obra completa e a organização do Instituto Hilda Hilst contribuíram significativamente, além de ter sido homenageada na Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty (FLIP), em 2018, reascendendo-se, mais uma vez, o interesse pela autora e sua obra. E disto se concluir que, mesmo fria, a glória póstuma se estende sobre sua obra, pois não foi necessário que meio século transcorresse, é no hoje da posteridade negada que os louros são colhidos em memória a essa estrangeira na própria terra.Palavras-chave: Hilda Hilst; Obra; Posteridade; Literatura Brasileira Contemporânea.Abstract: The paper presents Hilda Hilst’s opinion about the reader, her work and posterity through interviews she gave, collected by Diniz (2013), as well as her biography written by Folgueira and Destri (2018). Even Hilst often complained of her few readers, that her work was barely known by the public, not well distributed to sell by the publishers, and also called hermetic, she never stopped of writing for these reasons, since her first book, from 1950, until her last one, in the late 1990s. Considering all this information, it becomes clear the understanding that the paulista writer was really concerned, even though she denied several times, in discovering who was her reader, that her work was known, acknowledged, studied and could be there after her death, and the buying of her personal papers by the Centro de Documentação Cultural Alexandre Eulálio (UNICAMP), the Globo publisher’s project of reprinting her complete work, and the beginning of the activities of the Instituto Hilda Hilst immensely contributed, besides Hilda Hilst had been honored in the 16th Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty (FLIP), in 2018, risen again interesting by the writer and her work. From this, it is possible to conclude that even cold, the posthumous glory is spreading its wings above Hilda Hilst’s work, and won’t be necessary that half of a century goes by, it is right now that the denied posterity is resting on her laurels in honor to the memory of that stranger in her own country.Keywords: Hilda Hilst; Literary Work; Posterity; Contemporary Brazilian Literature.

RESUMENEl artículo que se presenta aquí traducido se editó en alemán en un volumen homenaje al filósofo Heinrich Rombach, quien se ha sabido unido a la «escuela de Freiburg » (en Briesgau) y determinado por la conexión entre Husserl y Heidegger, que, a pesar de las diferencias, es Fenomenología. Amigos, colegas y discípulos del profesor Rombach, por entonces profesor activo de la Universidad de Würzburg, dejaron en ese volumen huellas de haber oteado brechas y caminos muy distintos, en pos de alcanzar espacios abiertos, libres y diversos, propios de un filosofar que se sabe estructural, intermundano e intercultural. La participación de Franco Volpi, que se concentró en el Welt und Gegenwelt de Rombach, caminó a la par de quienes transitaron el primero de los tres movimientos, que emprendió la filosofía de Rombach y que se llama Hermética filosófica. Inspirado, pues, por la lectura del Welt und Gegenwelt, Volpi defiende que con el proyecto de la hermética el pensar de Rombach aventaja, de modo radical, la Zeitkritik de Heidegger de los fundamentos epocales, en cuyo caso el profesor italiano pone a consideración el aporte de la Hermética en la tradición de la filosofía alemana, que alcanza al fundador de la escuela hermeneútica. Rombach identified himself as a member of the “Freiburg School” in Breisgau, and delimited by the connection between Husserl and Heidegger, which, despite their differences is Phenomenology. Friends, colleagues and disciples of Professor Rombach, who was back then an active Professor at the University of Würzburg, left traces in this volume of having glimpsed very different paths and gaps in the pursuit of reaching free, open and diverse spaces, characteristic of a structural, intermundane, and intercultural way of doing philosophy. Franco Volpi’s contribution moved along others who focused on the Rombach`s Welt und Gegenwelt, following the first of three movements undertaken by Rombach`s philosophy, namely philosophical Hermetics. Inspired by Welt und Gegenwelt, Volpi claims that with the hermetic project, the thought of Rombach surpasses, in a radical way, the Heideggerian Zeitkritik, and so the Italian Professor examines the contribution of the Hermetics in the tradition of German philosophy, that includes the founder of the school of hermeneutics. The letter with Rombach`s reply to Volpi`s claim, on the other hand, denies Rombach`s involvement with the Zeikritik. Instead, Rombach emphasizes the centrality of the hermetic phenomenon, that is, the immediate and inseparable unity of human being and reality, which happens as they respectively move along together or at the same time, understood by Rombach as a special discover for who can grasp it. Moisture induced epoxy swelling is a potential failure mechanism in nonhermetic packages. Epoxy materials used in the package absorb moisture and swell in a relatively humid environment. This will result in hygroscopic stresses in the material that can eventually lead to failure. The coefficient of hygroscopic swelling (CHS) is a material property that characterizes moisture induced swelling in the material. It is defined as the ratio of hygroscopic strain to the moisture concentration in the material. Prior research investigated the measurement of CHS experimentally using techniques such as thermo mechanical analysis (TMA) (Ardebili et al., 2003, “Hygroscopic Swelling and Sorption Characteristics of Epoxy Molding Compounds Used in Electronic Packaging,” IEEE Trans. Compon. Packag. Technol., 26(1), pp. 206–214; Mckague et al., 1978, “Swelling and Glass Transition Relations for epoxy Matrix Material in Humid Environments,” J. Appl. Polym. Sci., 22, pp. 1643–1654.), Moiré interferometry (Han et al., 2003, “Measurement of the Hygroscopic Swelling Coefficient in Mold Compounds Using Moire Interferometer Experimental Techniques,” IEEE Trans. Compon. Packag. Technol., 27(4), pp. 40–44), and digital image correlation (DIC) (Park and Zhang, 2007, “Investigation of Hygroscopic swelling of Polymers in Freezing Temperature,” ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition). Some of these studies recommended investigation of improved measurement techniques, while others made some procedural assumptions that may not be applicable for all materials. One of the goals of this study was to investigate an improved technique for CHS measurement and helps to better understand the various factors that affect the measurement. The DIC technique was used to measure the moisture swelling of the epoxy material considered for use in the package. Moisture loss during the measurement results in a change in moisture concentration in the sample. While it may be thought that the moisture loss during the DIC scan can be assumed negligible due to the short test time compared with other methods, this assumption did not hold well for the current epoxy material. The ramp rate chosen for the test affects the moisture loss. It introduces a level of nonuniformity in temperature and moisture distribution in the sample. A suitable value that takes into account both of these effects was determined. The moisture loss measured during the DIC scan was accounted for in the CHS computation. In addition to this, the temperature and concentration dependence of the CHS was determined. Results indicated that the temperature and concentration effects are small for the current test material within the test temperature range. The moisture loss found during the DIC measurement leads to a nonuniform moisture distribution in the sample. This was characterized by using experimental and computational methods and the effect on the measurement was determined.

ABSTRACTWe review the principal characteristics driving the design of precision calorimeters composed of inorganic crystal scintillators now in operation (L3, CLEO II) or developed for the next generation of particle physics experiments. The unique discovery potential of these detectors (1.5 to 50 m3 of crystals; 104 to > 105 elements) is the result of their high electron and photon energy resolution over a wide energy range, uniform hermetic acceptance and fine granularity.Experiments at CERN's multi-TeV Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will search for the Higgs particles thought to be responsible for mass, and for many other new physics processes. In order to exploit the intrinsically high resolution of crystal detectors, exceptionally high speed (1 to 30 ns decay time) and radiation resistance are required. BaF2 and CeF3 are currently the preferred choices, and higher density alternatives such as PbWO4 are under investigation.Lower energy, high luminosity experiments that will measure rare particle decays, and explore the violation of the fundamental “CP” symmetry that may be related to the predominance of matter over antimatter in our universe, have chosen Cesium Iodide for its combination of high light output, speed, and radiation resistance.Recent developments by Caltech include the use of photons generated by an H− beam from an RFQ accelerator to calibrate and provide sub-percent resolution in the L3 BGO calorimeter, and an in situ optical bleaching technique that renders large BaF2 crystals now mass produced in China radiation hard up to dose levels ≳l 10 MegaRads.

AbstractThis paper presents the process and experimental results about the improved initial bonding between #7740 glass and silicon wafers. We employed a modified initial bonding procedure, called by water-enhanced direct bonding(WDB) technique, and could obtain large initially-bonded area(≥ 95% of the whole wafer area) at room temperature and high interface energy (≥ 2,000 erg/cm2) through 250 °C post-annealing even though the glass wafer had high surface roughness. The main factors contributing to the wider bonded area and higher interface energy in the developed WDB process could be inferred the increase of chemical species (oxygen and hydroxyl groups) responsible for initial hydrogen bonding and conversion from hydroxyl bonds to siloxane bonds in the temperature range between room temperature and 250 °C.

Livestock farms represent a source of attraction for other species, which find food resources on the animals themselves, in the food supplied to them, in their manure, etc. Insect farms too can suffer infestation by different organisms living on substrates or behaving as parasites and/or predators. Breeding of the black soldier fly (BSF), Hermetia illucens (L.) requires organic materials which are attractive for other arthropods (commensals, mycetophages, scavengers, etc.). During recent years, the breeding system adopted at the Di.Pro.Ve.S. of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Piacenza (Italy), has suffered the presence of the following ‘pests’: Megaselia scalaris (Loew) (Diptera Phoridae), Muscina stabulans (Fallén) (Diptera Muscidae), Monomorium pharaonis (L.) (Hymenoptera Formicidae) and Caloglyphus berlesei (Michael) (Astigmata Acaridae). The use of fermented fruit, vegetables or of an artificial diet to induce egg laying proved to be attractive for small flies such as M. scalaris. This species also takes advantage of the aqueous sugar solution used to feed BSF adults. Infestations by M. scalaris are worrying because its larvae can compete efficiently with those of the BSF in substrate colonisation. Likewise, M. stabulans can be attracted by the substrates, even though this species has not shown the same levels of high competitiveness as the previously mentioned species. M. pharaonis was observed to prey on eggs and newborn BSF larvae. Lastly, infestations by the mite C. berlesei were detected when conditions for the larval development of the BSF were not optimal. This species could also be harmful for the workers involved in the breeding. The establishment of insect and mite populations inside BSF rearing boxes suggests that a careful analysis should be made based on the location of the breeding facility and a series of measures should of course be adopted when this kind of structure and activities are designed and realised.

The reliance of aquaculture feed industry on fishmeal has been challenged by ecological, economic, and ethical limitations leading fish nutritionists to look for viable alternatives, and conventional animal-based protein sources showed varying degrees of success in this regard. However, a non-conventional protein source, black soldier fly Hermetia illucens Linnaeus, 1758 larvae (BSFL), received due attention as a focal point in fish nutrition research. Though many studies were conducted on H. illucens as a potential protein source for fish, a comprehensive review is not available. Therefore, this article aims to review the existing literature on the use of BSFL as a fishmeal replacer in aquaculture. The nutrient composition of BSFL varied with the developmental stage and the composition of growing medium. High crude protein levels (40.4–56.2 %) and high crude fat levels (4.8–24.8 %) made BSFL suitable for high protein and high energy diet. Early prepupa was the best stage for harvesting, considering its high crude protein content and dry matter yield and less chitin content. Up to 100 % inclusion levels of BSFL meal were tested in a wide range of fish species. Most studies revealed that up to 50 % of fishmeal replacement would be possible without negative effects on the fish. Notable adverse effects were found beyond 50 % of fishmeal replacement, mainly due to high chitin levels in the pupal stage and high crude fat levels. Harvesting BSFL before the pupal stage and defattening made it possible to replace 100 % of fishmeal without adverse effects on fish.

ABSTRACTGold-tin braze is the preferred material for attaching high-precision MEMS inertial sensors within hermetic ceramic packages. The bonds can be made at relatively low temperatures, are mechanically robust, and outgas at very low rates in vacuum sealed packages. There is one significant limitation to Au-Sn bonds, however. The thermal expansion coefficients of MEMS die and ceramic packages are not perfectly matched and temperature gradients occur when the assembly is cooled after brazing. As a result, there is considerable residual stress in the bonded assembly, which is accommodated to some extent by distortion of the sensor die. Over time, as these stresses relax, the distortion of the die changes, which causes the spacing between elements of the integral MEMS sensor to change as well. An important element of sensor-package design is insuring that stress relaxation effects do not cause the instrument to drift beyond its performance specification limits over a typical lifetime of 20 years.Even though Au-Sn has been used for decades to attach silicon chips to ceramic substrates, there is little data available, particularly at low temperatures. An oven, with a specially designed window, allowed in-situ measurements to be made as a function of temperature, joint thickness and load stress. Additionally, a MEMS device brazed to a package with Au-Sn has been measured interferometrically over time to quantify die distortion in a packaged application.

Abstract Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) belong to the most widely reared insects as an alternative protein source at industrial scale. Bacteria in the larval gut can provide benefits for the animal, though some bacteria can also be pathogenic for the insect. Accurate characterization of the BSFL microbiota is important for the production of BSFL in terms of yield and microbiological safety. In this study, 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequence data sets from 11 studies were re-analysed to gain better insights in the BSFL gut microbiota, potential factors that influence their composition, and differences between the gut and the whole larvae microbiota. A core gut microbiota was found consisting of members of Enterococcus, Klebsiella, Morganella, Providencia, and Scrofimicrobium. Further, the factors ‘Study’, ‘Age’ and ‘Feed’ (i.e. rearing substrate of the larvae) significantly affected the microbiota gut composition. When compared to whole larvae, a significantly lower diversity was found for gut samples, suggesting that the larvae harboured additional microbes on their cuticle or in the insect body. Universal choices in insect sample type, primer selection and bio-informatics analysis pipeline can strengthen future meta-analyses and improve our understanding of the BSFL gut microbiota towards the optimization of insect rearing conditions and substrates.
