The Tourism industry in Portugal has not only resisted to the crisis of recent years, but has also created new and sophisticated proposals, adding value and new offers to global market. At the level of Health and Wellness Tourism there is a profound evolution. Indeed, there has been a remarkable growth of tourist and hotel concepts and proposals, offering high quality services and providing equipment, leisure, various therapies and treatments. The quality of these services increasingly demanded by tourists worldwide, can complete, with great success, the traditional Portuguese tourist offer, adding excellent products for a healthy and enhanced lifestyle. Such an offer can be essential not only for adult segments, but also to a senior audience, perhaps already retired, who seeks care for their good, physical and mental shape. It was intended to make a case study of the Altis Belém Hotel & Spa in Lisbon. Located in a privileged area of Lisbon, the Altis Belém Hotel & Spa offers - for a demanding and aware customer - fine conditions (services and equipment) targeted to meet motivations and profile of their users.

There are 11 thermal springs in the Western Cape, seven of which have been developed into eight resorts. Only one of these resorts has a focus on health and wellness, with appropriate facilities, with the others functioning primarily as family leisure resorts. Internationally there has been a move by traditional thermal spring resorts to begin offering a combination of health (medical and wellness) services in combination with leisure activities. In light of current international trends, as well as perceived domestic needs, it appears that the Western Cape‟s thermal spring resources are not being optimally utilized as tourist attractions, neither for domestic nor for international tourist markets. This research sets out to evaluate the potential for health tourism development of thermal springs in the Western Cape. It analyses relevant aspects of both the supply and demand sides of thermal spring tourism in the Western Cape. A database is compiled of thermal spring resorts and undeveloped thermal springs in the Western Cape, which includes facilities and services, and relative locations with respect to tourist attractions and tourism routes. The mineral and radon gas contents of the respective thermal waters are measured and discussed in relation to known medicinal properties. A questionnaire-based survey was undertaken, involving 383 respondents at six resorts, and activity-based market segmentation was carried out using k-means cluster analysis. A four-segment user profile (typology) of current visitors, based on activity preferences, was compiled. It was found that there is considerable potential for the development of thermal spring health (medical and wellness) tourism products in the Western Cape, based on available resources. A framework for thermal spring health tourism product development in the Western Cape is proposed, and recommendations are made for future development and marketing. Key recommendations include the development of balneological treatments, and radon therapies, at certain resorts, and investigating of the availability of local resources that could be incorporated into medical or wellness tourism products.

Among Serbia’s lush mountains, with particular qualities, particular dimensions and many tourist-attractive sights, Mount Kopaonik rises above the rest. Kopaonik, with a 2,758 m peak, is located in southwestern Serbia, known for its cascading appearance, which has bestowed upon this mountain the potential to develop several forms of niche tourism. In order to preserve this immense natural beauty, in 1981 Mount Kopaonik was officially proclaimed a national park comprised of 16 preserves. This ensures that it will remain an extremely interesting location, in both touristic and ecological aspects. On the basis of existing data extrapolated from multiple disciplines, covering the varying seasonal periods, and including institutional as well as independent field research, this Doctoral Dissertation explores all the existing natural and man-made conditions within which tourism can be developed on Mount Kopaonik and its natural spas of Josanic, Lukovo, Kursumlija, and Prolom. It highlights the need to develop complementary forms of mountain and spa tourism on Mount Kopaonik and within its forests, and emphasizes the elements and factors required for forming homogenous tourist regions compatible with the ecological surroundings. Compementary forms of mountain and spa tourism is wiewed through a swot analisis.

Portugal is mentioned in Europe as a country with a mild climate, with peaceful and hospitable people, beautiful landscapes, white sandy beaches, exceptional gastronomy and a vast culture and heritage. That is why tourism has become a major driver of national economy. However, in times of crisis, innovative projects that seek to cover new markets and services based on quality are the key to success. In an increasingly competitive market, the bet has to be concrete, well set and based on strategic guidelines. Thus, the focus of this study was the analysis of the feasibility of an investment project, which aims to create a unit of Rural Tourism, under the strategic axis of Health and Well-being, defined by the Plano Estratégico Nacional do Turismo (National Strategic Plan for Tourism). The required conditions for the implementation of Rural & Spa were studied. Rural & Spa is a resort, located in Marvão (Alentejo Region), situated in a family property, on land adjacent to the main house. It will consist of six rooms, spa, gym, pool and garden, amongst other leisure and resting areas. The main goal of the project is to regenerate the area, which is currently in a degraded state, by developing an innovative project that not only invests in not only providing accommodation, but also wants to become a revitalizing retreat.

The sector of Health and Wellness Tourism defines itself as one of the main touristic tendencies worldwide. According to PENT «National Strategic Plan for Tourism », (period 2006 – 2015), the «10 Strategic Products for Development of National Tourism» and more recently project «Tourism 2020 – Action Plan for Tourism Development» (period 2016-2020), Portugal has a high potential for development in this area. This market is estimated to grow between 5 and 10% a year, supported by the average spending of 100€ to 500€ daily. In 2014 alone, total profits of 11.7 million euros were registered in products directly related to Thermal and Health and Wellness Tourism.According to PENT, the profile of the consumer of these services can be split into two distinct groups. The first is a younger group comprising of individuals aged 20-24 with an average income, alongside young families with children (between the ages of 24 and 40). The second group is made up of those aged 50-90 + years, characterised by average to high incomes, an ability to travel throughout the year as opposed to seasonally, with no big economic responsibilities, well informed and users of the new information and communication. Included in this second group is a typology of Senior Tourism as the one that will bring more long term benefits to the Tourism market, particularly on the research for medical care of health and wellbeing. The increasing age of the global population, an increasing life expectancy and the growing notion of active ageing, are all catalysts for the development of the Health Tourism sector which help to explain the need to study and promote this field as part of the national plan. The present internship report is a case study of the mountain spa, H2otel – Congress & Medical Spa, located in Unhais da Serra, in the municipality of Covilhã. Data was collected through a voluntary questionnaire and the analysis will pay particular attention to the preferences of the Seniors Tourists in the field of Health and Wellness Tourism in the portuguese instance.

This thesis, in addition to addressing the issue of strategic management of tourist destinations and the importance and contribution that tourism has on local development, taking into account the value of its land resources, focused on the health and wellness tourism. Due to the existence of a huge diversity of concepts and the difficulty in delineating health and wellness tourism it was proposed a typology for this strategic product, taking into account the reality in Portugal. There were also pointed out the competitive factors that influence the choice of health and wellness destinations. The therapeutic importance of thermal water and its potential possibilities are also important elements of analysis in this study. The Caldas da Cavaca is a thermal spa resort located in Aguiar da Beira and the Viseu Dão Lafões sub-region that belongs to the Central Region of Portugal, and throughout its history has experienced various stages of development, and today, is confronted with a huge challenge that involves a number of factors that go mainly for the reorganization and diversification of its offer, for a more efficient promotion activity in the markets and institutional cooperation. The main objectives of this thesis go by the understanding of what strategies and management models are followed by the best international and national practices in thermal spas, to define the customer profile of Caldas da Cavaca, their motivations, behaviors, perceptions, satisfaction and recommendations, and finally, to define a sustainable tourism development strategy for Caldas da Cavaca. In this context, it was structured a research model supported by an important theoretical framework, an analysis of key features and attractions of the territory, a benchmarking strategy applied to the analysis of best practices of European and Portuguese thermal spas, the application of questionnaires to customers of Caldas da Cavaca and an interview with the current Caldas da Cavaca manager, culminating in the final analysis that led to the structuring of the sustainable development strategy for Caldas da Cavaca, this strategy, which includes sustainability, quality, innovation and competitiveness. In terms of practical contribution, this study provides a strategic direction for Caldas da Cavaca as an important thermal wellness destination, in the short, medium and long term, aiming essentially to the (re) qualification of its tourist offer and to increase demand. These measures and actions are of utmost importance in terms of the development of the territory, the affirmation of tourism and destination competitiveness.

【Abstract】 Leisure agriculture is a special sector in the service industry. In order to establish a unique competitive edge and foster tourist satisfaction, entrepreneurs investing in this line of business should first and foremost understand the core resources of their investments, as such would determine the future of their businesses. For the purposes of this research, we conducted a case study on the Tungyugi Health Spa Resort by questionnaire survey, in-depth interviews, and direct observation to gather the necessary data for analysis. Quantitative and qualitative data were gathered and compiled, and thereafter analyzed. In the study , it is discovered that the core resources of the Tungyugi are its land, hot spring and its related facilities, and the business image and self-owned brands of the local Farmer’s Association. Its hot springs and resort facilities provided for its competitive edge. In terms of products, equipment, surrounding facilities, and staff services, the journey to the Tungyugi enjoys a tourists’ satisfaction level above 50%. An evaluation of the correlation between its core resources and degree of tourists’ satisfaction showed that its core resources mainly accounted for its competitive edge and the tourists’ satisfaction it enjoys is therefore a reflection of its core resources. In the thesis , it is showed that core resources and tourists’ satisfaction actually complement each other, thus making them parallel, non-conflicting aspects of the business in the Tungyugi. Entrepreneurs should take a good stock of their core resources and competitive edge before defining business policies; moreover, they should regularly adjust or create new core resources or competitive edge in line with the feedback and recommendations of their tourists.
