Corrosion behavior of Incoloy 825 was studied in high temperature vapor with high concentration of NaCl. After 80 h exposure, a bi-layer structure was formed on sample surface after exposure. The outer layer is consisted of loose and large-grain oxides, and the inner layer is composed of fine-grain oxide. The whole layer was identified to be CrOOH/Fe3O4/Cr2O3/Incoloy 825 from outer to inner.

This article examines the history of the development of astronomy in the Middle Ages as evidenced by the emergence of reliable Muslim scholars in the history of Muslim scientific civilization. The method used is a literature review by looking at the historical references to the development of astronomy. From the results of the study it was found that the development of Islamic science (1250 AD / 647 H - 1800 AD / 1214 H) in astronomy was divided into 4 periods including the first period which is believed to be the era of assimilation and the initial struggle of Greek, Indian and Sasanid astronomy (Persia). (700 AD / 80 AH – 825 AD / 209 AH), the second period is believed to be a major investigation and acceptance and modification of the Ptolemaic astronomical system (825 AD / 209 H - 1025 AD / 415 H), the third period as a period of advancement of the system Islamic astronomy is believed to be the middle ages of astronomy (1025 AD / 415 H - 1450 AD / 853 H), the fourth period was a period of stagnation in which not many scientific contributions were achieved (1450 AD / 853 H - 1900 AD / 1317 H).

The exploitation of high acid wells is facing severe corrosion challenges in the A and B gas fields in Sichuan, thus using lined steel pipe is a reliable and cost-effective anti-corrosion measure. However, lined steel pipe welding involves dissimilar steel welding, and anti-corrosion performances will be affected if the welding process is unreasonable. So it is necessary to make evaluation for corrosion of lined steel pipe. In this paper, taking welding gap of L245/825 lined steel pipe as example, the anti-SSC performances of L245/825 straight and ring welding gaps in NACE A solution were studied by CR method, and anti-cracking performances of them were evaluated by laboratory experiments. Then corrosion performances of L245/825 lined steel pipe welding gaps and L360NCS carbon steel were studied in the corrosive environment found in the Tian Dong 5-1 high sour gas well. Laboratory and field tests show that straight and ring welding gaps of L245/825 lined steel pipe have good anti-environment and anti-cracking performances of electrochemical corrosion in the high acid environment. The technology of welding process selected in the paper is reliable. Research results provide references for welding operation of L245/825 lined steel pipe in high sour gas fields.

Silver-sheathed Bi–Pb–Sr–Ca–Cu–O (2223) superconducting tapes (with a starting composition of Bi1.8Pb0.4Sr2Ca1Cu2O8, calcium cuprate, and CuO) were fabricated by the powder-in-tube technique. The tapes were sintered at various temperatures to optimize the formation of Bi1.8Pb0.4Sr2Ca2Cu3O10 phase within the tape. The results show that sintering within the temperature range of 815–825 °C can produce tapes with high critical current density (Jc). The Jc of samples sintered at the higher temperature of 825 °C, where more liquid is present, depended markedly on the rate at which tapes were cooled from the sintering temperature; samples sintered at lower temperatures did not exhibit such a cooling-rate effect. The optimum combination of phase purity and microstructure that yielded an average transport Jc of ≥ 2.5 × 104 A/cm2 was obtained when the tapes were sintered at 825 °C for 150 h and cooled at a rate of 25 °C/h from the sintering temperature. Quenching studies indicate that the Bi-2223 phase becomes unstable below 700 °C during slow cooling. This result may have important implications for processing Bi–Sr–Ca–Cu–O tapes with high Jc. Addition of 15 vol.% Ag flakes to the monolithic core exerted no significant effect on Jc.

The superconducting material BPSCCO-2212 with doping Pb = 0,2 has been synthesized by the wet mixing method. Calculation is caried out at 800 °C for 10 hours. While sintering is done at 825 °C, 830 °C, 835 °C and 840 °C for 20 hours. The synthesis result were characterized by XRD X-Ray Diffraction) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). The XRD spectrum analysis results that have been processed using celref, show that in general the samples produced have formed the BPSCCO-2212 phase (indicated the presence of Bi-2212 peaks) and have been oriented (indicated the existence of peaks with h = k = 0, l even number). For the calculation result obtanced the highest volume fraction value at 830 °C sintering temperature with a value FV = 66,97 % and the highest degree of orientation at 825 °C with a value of P = 76,54 %. The results of the SEM photo recorder generally show that the crystals formed are oriented.

Pradofloxacin—a dual-targeting fluoroquinolone—is the most recent approved for use in food animals. Minimum inhibitory and mutant prevention concentration values were determined for pradofloxacin, ceftiofur, enrofloxacin, florfenicol, marbofloxacin, tildipirosin, tilmicosin, and tulathromycin. For M. haemolytica strains, MIC50/90/100 values were ≤0.016/≤0.016/≤0.016 and MPC50/90/100 values were 0.031/0.063/0.063; for P. multocida strains, the MIC50/90/100 values ≤0.016/≤0.016/0.031 and MPC50/90/100 ≤ 0.016/0.031/0.063 for pradofloxacin. The pradofloxacin Cmax/MIC90 and Cmax/MPC90 values for M. haemolytica and P. multocida strains, respectively, were 212.5 and 53.9 and 212.5 and 109.7. Similarly, AUC24/MIC90 and AUC24/MPC90 for M. haemolytica were 825 and 209.5, and for P. multocida, they were 825 and 425.8. Pradofloxacin would exceed the mutant selection window for >12–16 h. Pradofloxacin appears to have a low likelihood for resistance selection against key bovine respiratory disease bacterial pathogens based on low MIC and MPC values.

Indonesia is a mega-diversity country with numerous endemic plants distributed throughout its regions. An Indonesias’ island with the unique and the highest endemic plant species due to being located in the Wallace area is Sulawesi Island. Hopea celebica, an endemic species to Sulawesi Island, is currently categorized as endangered by IUCN. Here, we selected the ISSR primers suitable for the genetic study of H. celebica from Luwu and Konawe provenances and investigated their genetic diversity. Ten ISSR primers were employed in primer screening, and fifty H. celebicaindividuals were genetically analyzed for their genetic diversity. The selected ISSR primers for genetic diversity analysis were UBC 810, UBC 813, UBC 814, UBC 820, UBC 822, UBC 823, and UBC 827. The evaluated H. celebica individuals have high genetic diversity, and this information will be beneficial for designing H. celebica breeding and conservation strategies

Background Proteasome inhibition has been studied and used as a therapeutic target in the treatment of autoimmune disorders and multiple myeloma. Immune system cells, especially antigen-presenting cells, express a higher basal level of immunoproteasomes, which are used to generate peptides that can be processed to fit in the groove of MHC class I molecules. ONX 0914 is a selective inhibitor of the immmunoproteasome that blocks LMP7-specific presentation of MHC-I restricted antigens, whereas PR-825 is a specific inhibitor of the b5 catalytic subunit generated by the constitutive proteasome. In previous work, we found that ONX 0914 administration early after transplantation significantly improved the survival of recipient mice in an MHC-matched minor histocompatibility antigen (miHA)-disparate (B10.BR -> CBA, lethally irradiated) murine model of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). To further elucidate the mechanism of action, we compared alloreactive responses via IFN-g production in mixed lymphocyte reactions (MLR) in which stimulator cells or responder T cells were pretreated with either ONX 0914 or PR-825. MLR were conducted for the B10.BR anti-C56BL/6y (B6) MHC-mismatched, the CD8+ T cell-mediated B10.BR anti-CBA, and the CD4+ T cell-mediated B6 anti-BALB.B MHC-matched/ miHA-disparate strain combinations. Methods Stimulator splenocytes were treated for one hour with ONX 0914 (300 nM) or PR-825 (125 nM) before or immediately after exposure to irradiation (30 Gy) prior to initiation of the MLR. In addition, to try to optimize putative in vivo drug regimens, we determined the timing of release/degradation of antigenic peptides presented in the context of MHC-I. To this end, the MC57G fibrosarcoma cell line was transiently transfected with a GFP tagged SIINFEKL plasmid, cells were treated with different drug regimens and exposure times of ONX 0914 or PR-825, and monitored over 48 hours for surface expression of MHC-I presented SIINFEKL peptide using flow cytometry. Results ELISpot assays showed a statistically significant decrease in the number of IFN-g producing cells when stimulators (B6 splenocytes) were pretreated with ONX 0914 compared to pretreated responder (B10.BR) cells (60.21% vs. 1.75% respectively, p< 0.01). In the miHA disparate combinations, the percentage decrease in IFN-g+ spots was ∼30% when stimulators were treated with ONX 0914, whereas only a ∼15% decrease was observed with PR-825 pretreatment. Furthermore, IFN-g production was not dependent upon the timing of exposure to irradiation, as ELISpot counts were equally decreased when drug pretreatments were performed before irradiation or just after exposure. Antigenic peptide presentation was maximally decreased in transfected MC57G cells 48 h after treatment (i.e., SIINFEKL % in GFP+ MC57G cells treated with DMSO was equal to 83% vs. 76% when cells were exposed to ONX 0914 [300 nM, for 24 h]. This result suggests that for in vivo application, pretreatment of recipient mice with ONX 0914 to decrease miHA presentation by host cells (24-72 hours prior to bone marrow transplantation) may provide further amelioration of GVHD development. Conclusion Taken together, these data suggest that downregulation of LMP7-mediated presentation of MHC-I restricted antigens by host cells likely modulated stimulation and IFN-g production of donor T cells in vivo, rather than acting on effector cells directly, and accounted in part for the improved survival rate experienced by recipient mice treated with ONX 0914. Abstract Background: Persistence of leukemia initiating cells (LIC) in T acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) results in relapse in 20- 25% of pediatric and over 50% of adult patients1. LIC are characterized by high CD44 expression and low reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels 2, 3. T-ALL LIC maintain low ROS by cystine/glutamate anti-porter complex of which CD44 is a key component 2, 4. CD44 also interacts with microenvironmental components; hyaluronic acid, osteopontin, fibronectin etc. NOTCH1 transcriptionally upregulates CD44/MYC by binding the upstream 'super-enhancer' sites. BRD4, a member of the bromodomain and extra terminal domain (BET) family, is a critical scaffold of super-enhancer complexes that binds acetylated histones (3 and 4) and drives NOTCH1 mediated MYC/CD44 transcription 5, 4, 1. We hypothesized that degradation of BRD4 with hetero-bifunctional PROteolysis TArgeting Chimera (PROTACTM) such as ARV-825, will lead to efficient and sustained downregulation of NOTCH1/MYC /CD44 transcription and disrupt cell intrinsic and extrinsic pathways for persistence of T-ALL LIC. Methods: We confirmed the anti-leukemia effect of ARV-825 (IC50 pico to low nanomolar) against T-ALL cells including early T-cell phenotype (ETP) and Gamma-secretase inhibitor (GSI) resistant T-ALL8. To confirm disruption of NOTCH1/MYC/CD44 axis in-vivo, we specifically tested the impact of BRD4 degradation on NOTCH1 and its target genes including MYC, CD44 and as functional readout, intra-cellular ROS, in a T-ALL/ patient-derived xenograft (PDX) mouse model of disseminated leukemia possessing a constitutively active NOTCH1 mutation. Mass cytometry based proteomic analysis (CyTOF) studies were done to quantitatively assess T-ALL LICs and suppression of NOTCH1-MYC-CD44 axis, and secondary transplantation was carried out into sub-lethally irradiated mouse recipients to functionally evaluate LIC elimination. Results: ARV-825 mediated sustained BRD4 degradation resulted in profound down-regulation of MYC, CD98, CD44 and its variants (CD44v). Moreover, we observed down-regulation of cell intrinsic anti-apoptotic proteins Bcl-2, Bcl-XL. As a functional correlate of down-regulation of CD98/CD44/CD44v (glutathione anti-porter system), flow cytometry confirmed increased intracellular ROS and decreased reduced glutathione (GSH). In a PDX mouse model of human T-ALL, ARV-825 treatment improved survival compared to mice treated with vehicle (P=0.002) (Fig.1). CyTOF analysis of mouse bone marrow cells showed quantitative reduction of phenotypically defined LIC (CD4+CD8+CD7+ CD19- ) 6,7 with down regulation of the NOTCH1-MYC-CD44 axis along with oncogenic molecules (transcription factors Myc and NFkB, cell cycle regulators, activated PI3K/Akt, and anti-apoptotic Bcl2 family proteins) in mice treated with ARV-825 (Fig.2). Finally, secondary transplantation of equal number of human CD45+ cells from Vehicle and ARV-825 treated mice in to NSG mice led to delayed leukemia development and extended survival of mice engrafted from ARV-825 treated mice (Vehicle:38 days Vs ARV-825: 58 days P=0.0001/ Vehicle:36.5 days Vs ARV-825: 50 days P=0.0001) (Fig.3), providing functional confirmation of LIC elimination. Conclusion: Degradation of BRD4 with PROTAC (ARV-825), modulates the NOTCH1/MYC/CD44 axis and has the potential of therapeutically targeting the LIC in T-ALL. The alloys underwent annealing at 825 oC for 10, 100 and 1000 h. Thefollowing techniques were used to evaluate the phase transformation: X-ray diffraction on crosssectionand isolates extracted from the as-cast and annealed alloys, microstructure analysis byoptical microscopy, hardness measurements by Brinell and nanoindentation with a Berkovich tipmethod. The analysis of changes in hardness distribution due to thermal processing of superalloyswas conducted with respect to the average hardness of matrix and phase precipitates.

Purpose Bimetallic composite pipe consists of a corrosion resistance alloy (CRA) layer for corrosion resistance and carbon steel for mechanical properties, which shows a promising prospect of gathering pipeline with its effective-cost and reliable corrosion resistance. However, the corrosion resistance of composite pipe is determined by the quality of its welding gap. This paper aims to investigate the TIG welding gap corrosion resistance of X52/825 metallurgical clad pipe in H2S/CO2 environment. Design/methodology/approach Corrosion tests of X52/825 welding gap were performed in a stimulated gas field solution containing both 1 MPa CO2 and 1.5 MPa H2S at 70°C for 720 h in a self-designed high temperature and high pressure autoclave. The anti-stress corrosion cracking (SCC) performance of X52/825 clad pipe ring root welding gap was investigated in both NACE A solution and the stimulant gas field solution by four point bending testing and constant load test. Then the experiments were rerun in XX high sour gas well. In addition, the alloy diffusion and microstructure characteristics of TIG welding gap were analyzed through scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy technologies. Findings The results reveal that the root welding gap is almost not corroded in the stimulant gas field solution, and no micro-cracks were observed by electron microscope. Anti-SCC test results show the root welding gap does not break, indicating a good resistance to environmental-cracking in H2S/CO2 environment. The transition layer can be obviously observed in the root welding zone, and the alloy content of transition layer is diluted. However, the transition layer does not penetrate into the inner of CRA layer, which illustrates its good anti-corrosion performance. Therefore, TIG welding technology can be well used in the welding process of composite pipe. Originality/value This paper may provide theoretical reference for manufacturing and application of clad pipe.

Maize is one of the vital crops after rice and wheat in India and is a widely produced cereal. Maize contributes only 2.4 percent of total world production. Maize occupied 22.98 lakh hectares, with a production of 36.61 MT in India. The average yield per hectare during 2020- 21 was 2804 kg per hectare. The performance of the maize cob harvester was tested to know the effect of three independent parameters like forward speed of operation (1.7 km/h, 1.9 km/h, 2.1 km/h), snipper speed (55 m/min, 62 m/min, 68 m/min), Variety of maize crop (Dhania- 9965, Sartaj-765, D-9081) on different dependent parameters like stripping loss, ratio of stem length before and after harvesting and machine parameter like actual field capacity, field efficiency. It was also observed that the machines work satisfactorily at forward speed 1.9 km/h and snipper speed 62 m/min. crop parameters stripping losses 0.197%, ratio of length of stem before and after harvesting are 825 mm and 113.33 mm and machine parameter actual field capacity is 0.081 ha/h, field efficiency 75.7%. The cost of operation of machine was found as Rs.337.65 per hour, breakeven point was found as 149.64 h and payback period was 2.5 years (approx.) The total output of machine is 75 q/ha.

The CMs were obtained in argon in three stages: 1) heating (4 grad/min) to the specified temperature t in the range of 350–825 °С; 2) isothermal exposure 1 h; 3) cooling, washing from alkali and drying. Samples are denoted as CM(t). The CM yield (Y, %) and CMs elemental composition are determined. Based on low-temperature (77 K) nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, integral and differential dependences of the specific surface area SDFT (m2/g) and pore volume V (cm3/g) on the average pore diameter (D, nm) were calculated by 2D-NLDFT-НS method (SAIEUS program). They were used to define volumes of ultramicropores (Vumi), supermicropores (Vsmi) and micropores (Vmi). The total pore volume V was calculated from the nitrogen amount adsorbed at a relative pressure p/p0 ~ 1.0. The S values of ultramicropores (Sumi), supermicropores (Ssmi) and micropores (Smi) were similarly determined. The CM yield was established to decrease linearly (R2 = 0.979) from 70.2 to 45.3 % with an increase in temperature from 350 to 825 °С. The carbon content decreases to a minimum value at 500 °С (72.6 %), and then increases to a maximum value (87.5 %) at 825 °С; the oxygen content changes antibatically. Two temperature regions were identified: region I (≤ 500 °С) of increasing the oxygen content due to reactions in which KOH acts as a donor of O atoms; region II (≥ 500 °C) of dominating the thermal destruction of functional groups (carboxyl, lactone, ester) with the release of CO and CO2, and condensation increasing the size of polyarenes of the CM secondary framework and formsng single Сar-Саr bonds between them. The CM(350) sample was found to contain only mesopores (D ≥ 10 nm) and macropores. An activation temperature increase to 400 °C initiates the additional formation of small-diameter micropores and mesopores. In samples CM(400) - CM(825), the main portion of newly formed pores falls on pores with D ≤ 5 nm. With increasing temperature, the micropores volume increases almost linearly (R2 = 0.992). The Vumi and Vsmi volumes increase up to 600 °C. At higher temperatures the ultramicropores volume decreases due to transforming ultramicropores (D ≤ 0.7 nm) into supermicropores (D = 0.7–2.0 nm). Portion of the ultramicropores volume changes with a maximum (23.9 %) in the CM(600) sample. The SBET specific surface area linearly (R2 = 0.992) increases with temperature up to 1729 m2/g. The SDFT values are close to SBET, but noticeably lower (1514–1530 m2/g) for CM(785)-CM(825). The micropores specific surface area increases to 1415 m2/g, and ultramicropore surface Sumi changes extremely with a maximum (526 m2/g) for the CM(600) sample, which should be expected based on the temperature dependence of the Vumi parameter. The decrease in Sumi values after the maximum is compensated by an increase in the supermicropore surface. Such an effect - the redistribution of pores by size in the microporous range (D ≤ 2 nm) with an increase in the alkaline activation temperature is not described in the literature. The portion of the micropores surface is dominant (92.6–97.0 %) in samples prepared at t ≥ 450 °C. The portion of the ultramicropore surface is maximum (56.3 %) in CM(500). Pores are revealed that do not form at all at 450–750 °C. These are supermicropores (D = 0.96–2.00 nm) and mesopores of small diameters (D = 2.0–2.82 nm). This effect was assumed to be due to the properties of the CM supramolecular framework, which is formed from polyarene fragments of the initial and activated coals having polyarenes with diameters of the same order (1.68–2.54 nm).

Ni/CeO2-ZrO2 catalysts were prepared via co-precipitation and characterized by N2 adsorption–desorption, XRD, SEM, and TPR techniques. The effects of reaction temperature, carbon-equivalent space velocity (GC1HSV), and steam-to-carbon ratio (S/C) on the performance of the catalysts for ethanol steam reforming (ESR) were investigated. It was found that the best catalytic performance was obtained over the Ni/Ce0.75Zr0.25 catalyst with GC1HSV=345 h-1 and S/C=9.2. Under these conditions, H2 selectivity reached its highest value of 98% at T=725 °C, and carbon conversion reached 100% at T=825 °C. The performances of Ni/Ce0.75Zr0.25 and Ni/Ce0.5Zr0.5 were also compared at S/C ranging from 2.5 to 9.2. The results showed a higher carbon conversion for the Ni/Ce0.75Zr0.25 catalyst than for Ni/Ce0.5Zr0.5.

This paper focuses on the linking of zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) to N-vinylpyrrolidone (N-VP): acryloyl chloride (ClAC) copolymer. The synthesis of binary N-VP:ClAC copolymer was performed by the radical polymerization method and then grafted to ZnPc by the Friedel Crafts acylation reaction. We have developed a water-soluble ZnPc:ClAC:N-VP photosensitizer with a narrow absorption band at 970 nm, fluorescence at λem = 825 nm and the decay fluorescence profile with 3-decay relatively longer times of 1.2 µs, 4.6 µs, and 37 µs. The concentration-dependent dark cytotoxicity investigated in normal fibroblasts (NHDF), malignant melanoma (MeWo), adenocarcinoma (HeLa), and hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cell lines incubated to increased concentrations of ZnPc:ClAC:N-VP (up to 40 μM) for 24 h in the dark show low cytotoxicity. Maximum cell viability in HeLa and HepG2 tumor cell lines was observed.

PPH has been reported with increasing incidence and severity in well-resourced countries and is a major contributor to global maternal morbidity and mortality. Diagnosis can be challenging due to variability of risk factors and underestimation of blood loss leading to delayed response and treatment. Prognostic models to identify patients at risk and to provide resources and facilitate early intervention are not commonly integrated into clinical practice. Few, if any, are considered validated for use in the general obstetric population. This systematic review provides a comprehensive evaluation of current PPH prognostic models to identify best practices for prediction, describe model characteristics, and compare performance.

TSPO is involved in cigarette smoke (CS)-induced cellular toxicity, which may result in oral and pulmonary diseases and lung cancer. H1299 lung cancer cells were exposed directly to CS. The H1299 cells were pretreated with our TSPO ligands MGV-1 and 2-Cl-MGV-1 (Ki = 825 nM for both) at a concentration of 25 µM 24 h prior to CS exposure. Cell death and apoptotic markers were measured, in addition to TSPO expression levels, ATP synthase activity, generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), depolarization of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm), cAMP and LDH levels. Pretreatment with MGV-1 and 2-Cl-MGV-1 (25 µM), 24 h prior to CS exposure, differentially attenuated the CS-induced cellular insult as well as cell death in H1299 lung cancer cells. These protective effects included prevention of ATP synthase reversal, ROS generation, depolarization of the mitochondrial membrane and elevation in LDH. The preventive efficacy of 2-Cl-MGV-1 was superior to that achieved by MGV-1. Both ligands did not prevent the elevation in cAMP. These findings may indicate a mild protective effect of these TSPO ligands in CS-related pulmonary and keratinocyte cellular pathology.

Abstract Immunodominance controls the generation of CTL in the C57BL/6By (B6) anti-BALB.B H-2b-matched strain combination. Despite the potential of responding to numerous individual minor histocompatibility (H) Ag on BALB.B APC, the focus of the CTL response is largely specific for only a limited number of target Ag. These minor H Ag could be distinguished by their differential expression on a panel of target cells from the CXB recombinant inbred strains, the E, G, I, J, and K (all H-2b), which express different composites of the original BALB minor H Ag. A hierarchy was observed in which first-order immunodominant Ag were present on both CXBK and CXBG cells, whereas second-order dominant Ag were found on CXBE, CXBJ, and CXBI cells. To test whether immunodominance also plays a role in the development of lethal graft-vs-host disease (GVHD) directed to multiple minor H Ag, B6 T cells were transplanted along with T cell depleted bone marrow, to irradiated (825 rad) recipients of either the BALB.B or CXB recombinant inbred strains. The results indicate that a hierarchy of immunodominance does exist in GVHD, but it differs from that predicted from the in vitro CTL studies. GVHD was observed in BALB.B, CXBE, CXBI, and CXBJ recipients, but not in CXBG and CXBK recipients. Presensitization of B6 donor mice to CXBG or CXBK splenocytes 3 wk before transplant did not significantly increase the overall GVHD potential in the corresponding CXBG or CXBK recipients. Evidence for second-order immunodominance was provided by the transfer of CXBE T cells and ATBM to irradiated CXBG and BALB.B recipients with resultant, potent GVHD.

During the past three decades, efforts have been made to reduce the risk of human exposure to pesticides specially insecticides. There is a great demand for safer and more selective insecticides that spare natural enemies and non target organisms. The present investigation was conducted during rabi season 2009 and 2010, to test the effectiveness of recently developed new ready mix insecticide Plethora (Novaluron 5.25 %+ Indoxacarb 4.5% SC) along with other insecticides against Helicoverpa armigera Hub and Spodoptera litura Fab. infesting tomato. It is observed that Plethora @ 875 ml/ha recorded only 3.75% fruit damage, while in control plot it was 45.6%. Though highest cost benefit ratio (1:6.17) was obtained when Plethora was applied at 825 ml/ha. Independently novaluron performed well specially against S. litura and indoxacarb showed better performance against H. armigera but lamda-cyhalothrin expressed comparatively lower performance than other selected insecticides which received 28.30% fruit infestation.

Culture of the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis in a South African bay created organic enrichment and anoxia in sediments. Particulate organic matter (POM) was high under rafts versus the references, especially in the first 10 cm (C = 7.5 versus 0.4%, N = 0.7 versus 0.08%). Total reducible sulphides (TRS) increased threefold downcore (from 0.04 to 0.12%). High C:N ratios (12–15) indicated accumulation of refractory POM, derived mainly from faeces and decaying mussels and foulers. Although O2 uptake by raft sediments was the lowest, rates could not conclusively be separated from the references. Ammonium dominated N efflux, the highest and most variable rates being under mussels (825 ± 500 µmol NH4·m–2·h–1). Phosphate efflux (25–140 µmol·m–2·h–1) could not be ascribed to culture biodeposition, but there was an inconclusive trend for the molar N:P ratio to be highest in these sediments. Macrofauna biomass was reduced and trophic groups and taxa altered. Under rafts, macrofauna and organic debris were linked to O2 uptake rates, whereas at the reference sites, macrofauna appeared to be the major O2 consumer. It was concluded that POM and TRS in sediment as well as macrofauna biomass, and potentially molar N:P ratios, were more sensitive indicators of benthic impact from mussel culture than O2 uptake rates or nutrient fluxes.

In order to enhance the comprehensive performance of plasma nitrided heavy load components used in corrosive environments, post-oxidation was conducted under different conditions after plasma nitriding 42CrMo4 steel at 500 °C for 5 h. The results show that an oxide film composed of Fe3O4 and Fe2O3 was formed above the compound layer, resulting in a significant increase in corrosion resistance; the self-corrosion potential was greatly increased from −658.72 mV to −429.23 mV. Meanwhile, it needs to be emphasized that the characteristics of the plasma nitriding layer could be effectively adjusted as expected by post-oxidation. The compound layer thickness decreased from 9.41 μm to 3.62 μm by post-oxidation at 400 °C for 2 h, while the thickness of the effective hardening layer increased from 300 μm to 378 μm. Due to the expected change in the characteristics of the plasma nitriding layer, post-oxidation could simultaneously improve the toughness, hardness, and wear resistance of the samples; the brittleness level decreased from Grade 4 to Grade 1; the surface hardness increased from 765 HV0.05 to 825 HV0.05; and the wear rate decreased from 3 × 10−5 g·m−1·N−1 to 1.19 × 10−5 g·m−1·N−1, illustrating that the wear resistance was greatly improved.

There has been active research for the scalable production of high-quality graphene. Among various techniques, electrochemical exfoliation is facile, fast, and cost-effective for graphene production. Our previous finding on anodic exfoliation suggested that the binding energy between the intercalator and graphene sheet plays an important role in exfoliation efficiency.1 We further extended the hypothesis to the cathodic exfoliation process to produce high-quality graphene. The characteristics and morphologies of electrochemically exfoliated graphene using alkali metals (e.g. Na, K, and Cs) are compared. The objective of the research presented in this paper was to develop a volume warrant for free right-turn (FRT) lanes at unsignalized intersections on rural two-lane highways. The warrant was based on a cost-benefit analysis that determined the right-turn volumes required to justify the construction and maintenance of FRT lanes at such locations. The research involved the evaluation of the safety and operational effects of FRT lanes. The safety effects of FRT lanes were determined from a comparison of the accident experience at intersections with and without FRT lanes. The operational effects of FRT lanes were analyzed using kinematic and traffic flow models. FRT lanes were not found to affect the frequency, severity, or types of accidents that occur at unsignalized intersections on rural two-lane highways. Thus, the benefits of FRT lanes are limited to improving the efficiency of right-turn movements. The results of the research indicate that design-year right-turn annual average daily traffic ranging from 440 to 825 vehicles per day, depending on the percentage of trucks, is required to warrant an FRT lane. A design speed of 64 km/h (40 mph) was found to be the most cost-effective design speed for FRT lanes. However, design speeds up to 89 km/h (55 mph) do not significantly reduce the cost effectiveness of an FRT lane.

Through the magnetic measurements, isochronal annealing experiments in the temperature 25950 ºC of deformed, quenched, pre-annealed and pulsed laser damage samples Fe50Ni50 alloy revealed the existence of three annealing stages I, II and III in the annealing spectrum of heavily cold-worked by observing the associated changes in maximum magnetic permeability (µmax) on the magnetic field(H) for different annealing temperature. The first annealing stage I appeared in the temperature range from125-500 ºC and it was activated by energy 1.05 eV. It was attributed to the short range order caused by the long range migration of vacancies. The third annealing stage III appeared in the temperature range from 750-825 ºC and it was activated by 3.04 eV, it was related to the climb motion of dislocation during the recrystallization process.

Introduction. Hypophosphatemia may prolong ventilation and induce weaning failure. Some studies have associated hypophosphatemia with increased mortality. Starting or restarting nutrition in a critically ill patient may be associated with refeeding syndrome and hypophosphatemia. The correlation between nutrition, mechanical ventilation, and hypophosphatemia has not yet been fully elucidated. Methods. A retrospective cohort study of 825 admissions during two consecutive years was conducted. Using the electronic medical chart, demographic and clinical data were obtained. Hypophosphatemia was defined as a phosphate level below 2.5 mg/dL (0.81 mmol/L) in the first 72 h of ICU admission. Comparisons between baseline characteristics and outcomes and multivariate analysis were performed. Results. A total of 324 (39.27%) patients had hypophosphatemia during the first 72 h of ICU admission. Patients with hypophosphatemia tended to be younger, with lower APACHE-II, SOFA24, and ΔSOFA scores. They had a longer length of stay and length of ventilation, more prevalent prolonged ventilation, and decreased mortality. Their energy deficit was lower. There was no effect of hypophosphatemia severity on these results. In multivariate analysis, hypophosphatemia was not found to be statistically significant either with respect to mortality or survivor’s length of ventilation, but lower average daily energy deficit and SOFA24 were found to be statistically significant with respect to survivor’s length of ventilation. Conclusion. Hypophosphatemia had no effect on mortality or length of ventilation. Lower average daily energy deficit is associated with a longer survivor’s length of ventilation.

BackgroundThe aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate clinical characteristics and outcomes of very low birth weight (VLBW) neonates with acute kidney injury (AKI) treated with peritoneal dialysis (PD).MethodsThis retrospective study included 10 VLBW neonates treated with PD. Intravenous (IV) cannula and umbilical venous catheter were used for the peritoneal access.ResultsMean age at the moment of starting PD was 14.9 ± 9.3 days. Mean body weight (BW) was 825 ± 215 g. The average gestational age was 26.3 ± 1.1 weeks. The average duration of dialysis was 20.5 ± 14.7 h. The average ultrafiltration was 7.7 ± 4.2 mL/kg/h. At the moment of starting PD, the average BW was 302 ± 317g (22 ± 13%), higher than at birth (in patients who had PD started in first 2 weeks of their lives) or higher than the BW before AKI was diagnosed (patients who had PD started when they were older than 2 weeks). The main cause of AKI was sepsis ( n = 8/10). Dialysate leak was registered in 2 patients, 1 patient had peritonitis and the other had a blocked PD catheter. Six patients died during PD (severe sepsis), 1 died due to hypoxic encephalopathy and coma, and 2 patients survived. One patient (with hypoxic encephalopathy and coma) died 10 days after PD was stopped due to sepsis. The overall mortality was 80%.ConclusionAcute PD is still an appropriate treatment choice for VLBW neonates with AKI. In VLBW neonates, PD can be performed with an improvised PD system and catheters.

Zusammenfassung. Selbstkonzept und Selbstwirksamkeit sind zwei wichtige pädagogisch-psychologische Konstrukte. Über ihre gegenseitige Beziehung und diskriminanten und inkrementellen Vorhersagevaliditäten für schulische Leistungen ist nur wenig bekannt, weil sie zumeist separat analysiert wurden (entweder Selbstkonzept oder Selbstwirksamkeit). Untersucht wurden die Interdependenzen von drei schulfachspezifischen akademischen Selbstkonzeptskalen und drei schulfachspezifischen akademischen Selbstwirksamkeitsskalen sowie deren statistische Vorhersagekraft für Schulleistungen (Zensuren). Die Fächer waren Englisch, Geschichte und Mathematik. Untersucht wurden N = 825 Jugendliche, die chinesische Mittelschulen besuchten (Alter: M = 14.46 Jahre, SD = 0.79). Konfirmatorische Faktorenanalysen (CFA) belegten einerseits in jedem Schulfach zwei separate akademische „Selbst“-Faktoren (Selbstkonzept und Selbstwirksamkeit) und andererseits innerhalb eines jeden „Selbst“-Konstrukts drei Schulfachfaktoren (Englisch, Geschichte und Mathematik). Eine gemeinsame CFA über alle „Selbst“-Items führte zu sechs prägnanten Dimensionen: drei fachspezifische Selbstkonzeptfaktoren und drei fachspezifische Selbstwirksamkeitsfaktoren. Sparsamere Alternativmodelle waren weniger gut mit den Daten vereinbar. Entsprechend zusammengestellte Skalen hatten gute psychometrische Kennwerte. Multiple Regressionsanalysen und Kommunalitätenanalysen zeigten, dass die akademischen Selbstkonzeptskalen die erfassten Schulzensuren wesentlich besser statistisch vorhersagten als akademischen Selbstwirksamkeitsskalen. Die von beiden „Selbst“-Skalen gemeinsam aufgeklärten (d. h. nicht weiter aufteilbaren) Schulleistungsvarianzen betrugen 29.9 % (Englisch), 17.0 % (Geschichte) und 31.5 % (Mathematik). Die spezifischen (d. h. nicht mit der jeweiligen anderen „Selbst“-Skala konfundierten) Varianzaufklärungen lagen für die akademischen Selbstkonzepte bzw. akademischen Selbstwirksamkeiten bei 5.3 % bzw. 3.4 % (Englisch), bei 8.0 % bzw. 0.4 % (Geschichte) und bei 8.1 %. bzw. 1.8 % (Mathematik). Axons and dendrites contain dense microtubule (MT) assays that are not attached to a traditional MT nucleating structure such as the centrosome. Nevertheless, the MTs within these neurites are highly organized with respect to their polarity, and consist of a regular 13-protofilament lattice, the two known characteristics of MTs nucleated at the centrosome. These observations suggest either that axonal and dendritic MTs arise at the centrosome, or that they are nucleated locally, following a redistribution of MT nucleating material from the centrosome during neuronal development. To begin distinguishing between these possibilities, we have determined the distribution of gamma-tubulin within cultured sympathetic neurons. gamma-tubulin, a newly discovered protein which is specifically localized to the pericentriolar region of nonneuronal cells (Zheng, Y., M. K. Jung, and B. R. Oakley. 1991. Cell. 65:817-823; Stearns, T., L. Evans, and M. Kirschner. 1991. Cell. 65:825-836), has been shown to play a critical role in MT nucleation in vivo (Joshi, H. C., M. J. Palacios, L. McNamara, and D. W. Cleveland. 1992. Nature (Lond.). 356:80-83). Because the gamma-tubulin content of individual cells is extremely low, we relied principally on the high degree of resolution and sensitivity afforded by immunoelectron microscopy. Our studies reveal that, like the situation in nonneuronal cells, gamma-tubulin is restricted to the pericentriolar region of the neuron. Furthermore, serial reconstruction analyses indicate that the minus ends of MTs in both axons and dendrites are free of gamma-tubulin immunoreactivity. The absence of gamma-tubulin from the axon was confirmed by immunoblot analyses of pure axonal fractions obtained from explant cultures. The observation that gamma-tubulin is restricted to the pericentriolar region of the neuron provides compelling support for the notion that MTs destined for axons and dendrites are nucleated at the centrosome, and subsequently released for translocation into these neurites.

Growth regulation of epithelial cells is of major concern because most human cancers arise from them. We demonstrated previously a novel signal pathway involving S100C/A11 for high Ca2+-induced growth inhibition of normal human keratinocytes (Sakaguchi, M., M. Miyazaki, M. Takaishi, Y. Sakaguchi, E. Makino, N. Kataoka, H. Yamada, M. Namba, and N.H. Huh. 2003. J. Cell Biol. 163:825–835). This paper addresses a question whether transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) shares the pathway with high Ca2+. On exposure of the cells to TGFβ1, S100C/A11 was phosphorylated, bound to nucleolin, and transferred to the nucleus, resulting in induction of p21WAF1/CIP1 and p15INK4B through activation of Sp1. Protein kinase C α (PKCα) was shown to phosphorylate 10Thr of S100C/A11, which is a critical event for the signal transduction. The TGFβ1-induced growth inhibition was almost completely mitigated when PKCα activity was blocked or when S100C/A11 was functionally sequestered. These results indicate that, in addition to the well-characterized Smad-mediated pathway, the PKCα–S100C/A11-mediated pathway is involved in and essential for the growth inhibition of normal human keratinocytes cells by TGFβ1.

Neuronal cells can be generated from adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) through biological or chemical inducers. Research has shown that this process may be optimized by the introduction of laser irradiation in the form of photobiomodulation (PBM) to cells. This in vitro study is aimed at generating neuronal-like cells with inducers, chemical or biological, and at furthermore treating these transdifferentiating cells with consecutive PBM of a 525 nm green (G) laser and 825 nm near-infrared (NIR) laser light with a fluence of 10 J/cm2. Cells were exposed to induction type 1 (IT1): 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine (IBMX) (0.5 mM)+indomethacin (200 μM)+insulin (5 μg/ml) for 14 days, preinduced with β-mercaptoethanol (BME) (1 mM) for two days, and then incubated with IT2: β-hydroxyanisole (BHA) (100 μM)+retinoic acid (RA) (10-6 M)+epidermal growth factor (EGF) (10 ng/ml)+basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) (10 ng/ml) for 14 days and preinduced with β-mercaptoethanol (BME) (1 mM) for two days and then incubated with indomethacin (200 μM)+RA (1 μM)+forskolin (10 μM) for 14 days. The results were evaluated through morphological observations, viability, proliferation, and migration studies, 24 h, 48 h, and 7 days post-PBM. The protein detection of an early neuronal marker, neuron-specific enolase (NSE), and late, ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), was determined with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs). The genetic expression was also explored through real-time PCR. Results indicated differentiation in all experimental groups; however, cells that were preinduced showed higher proliferation and a higher differentiation rate than the group that was not preinduced. Within the preinduced groups, results indicated that cells treated with IT2 and consecutive PBM upregulated differentiation the most morphologically and physiologically.

Diffusion bonding is a process that has proven effective for the joining of metal to ceramic, but the differences in coefficient of thermal expansion still pose challenges during and after the bonding process. This work details the exploration of traditional diffusion-bonding processes using two traditional approaches, which include bonding of a 99.9+% pure Ni foil to SiC, Si3N4, and YSZ disks using (1) a hot isostatic press (HIP), with and without added weight to promote interfacial contact, and (2) field-assisted sintering (FAST). Samples were consolidated by heating to 1200 °C and held for 6 h under vacuum before cooling to room temperature during the HIP method. For the FAST technique, bonding experiments were performed at both 800 °C and 1200 °C in a vacuum environment under 10 MPa uniaxial pressure. After the Ni was bonded to the ceramics, diffusion heat treatments were carried out in the HIP. For electroless-plated samples, the heat-treatment temperature was chosen as 825 °C to avoid melting. For electroplated samples, heat treatment occurred at 925 °C or higher. Electroplated YSZ samples were heat-treated at 1150 °C as the Ni-Si eutectic is not a concern in this system. The time at temperature varied from 6 h to 48 h depending on the material combination tested. Post-heat-treatment diffusion characteristics were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). A main cause of poor bonding performance in the HIP samples was reduced interfacial contact, while cohesive failures in the FAST samples are likely due to the formation of brittle intermetallic Ni-Si phases. Preliminary results indicate success in bonding Ni to SiC, Si3N4, and YSZ using a diffusion-enhanced approach on electroplated specimens.

A large amount of catalyst waste containing silicon is deposited or buried every year, resulting in serious environmental pollution and a waste of resources. In this paper, a method to prepare mullite whiskers by recycling silica-rich waste under low-temperature conditions was investigated. The effects of raw materials, sintering temperature, catalyst addition, holding time and co-solvent addition on the structure, morphology and phase transition of the synthesized whiskers were investigated and characterized with SEM, XRD, TEM, TG and DTA. The results show that the addition of 10% Na2SO4 as the liquid-phase mass transfer medium could effectively improve the crystallization efficiency of mullite whiskers, while providing an ideal living environment for the growth of whiskers. The crystallinity and uniformity of mullite were positively correlated with the addition of aluminum fluoride trihydrate and the holding time, respectively. The growth law and conditions of mullite whiskers are discussed, and the optimal growth process conditions of mullite whiskers were optimized. The optimal conditions for mullite whiskers were determined as follows: the addition of aluminum fluoride is 5 wt%, the sintering temperature is 825 °C, and the holding time is 5 h at the time of sintering. This work offers new prospects for the industrial production of mullite whiskers from recycled silica-rich waste.

Objectives Patients receiving glucocorticoid treatment are prone to develop metabolic complications. In preclinical studies, metformin prevented the development of the metabolic syndrome during glucocorticoid excess. We herein investigated the metabolic effect of metformin during glucocorticoid treatment in non-diabetic patients. Methods In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, patients starting glucocorticoid treatment (prednisone, prednisolone or methylprednisolone) for four weeks were randomised to concomitantly receive metformin (850 mg once daily for one week followed by 850 mg twice daily for three weeks) or placebo. All patients underwent a standardised oral glucose tolerance test at baseline and after four weeks. The primary endpoint was change in the 2-h area under the curve (AUC) of glucose during the oral glucose tolerance test between baseline and four weeks. Results 29 of 34 randomised non-diabetic patients completed the trial (17 metformin and 12 placebo). In patients allocated to placebo, median glucose 2-h AUC increased from baseline to four weeks (836 (IQR 770–966) to 1202 (1009–1271) mmol/L per min; P = 0.01). In contrast, glucose levels remained similar to baseline in the metformin group (936 (869–1003) to 912 (825–1011) mmol/L per min; P = 0.83). This change within four weeks was different between both groups (P = 0.005). Glucocorticoid equivalent doses were similar in both groups (placebo: 980.0 (560.0–3259.8) mg/28 days; metformin: 683.0 (437.5–1970.5) mg/28 days; P = 0.26). Conclusions In this first randomised controlled trial of metformin targeting metabolic complications in patients needing glucocorticoid therapy, we observed a beneficial effect of metformin on glycaemic control. Metformin thus seems to be a promising drug for preventing metabolic side effects during systemic glucocorticoid treatment.

Recently, we documented age-related attenuation of efferent drive to contracting skeletal muscle. It remains elusive if this indication of reduced muscle strength is present with lifelong strength training. For this purpose, we examined evoked potentials in the calf muscles of 11 [71 ± 4 (SD) yr] strength-trained master athletes (MA) contrasted with 10 (71 ± 4 yr) sedentary (SO) and 11 (73 ± 6 yr) recreationally active (AO) old subjects, as well as 9 (22 ± 2 yr) young controls. As expected, MA had higher leg press maximal strength (MA, 185 ± 32 kg; AO, 128 ± 15 kg; SO, 106 ± 11 kg; young, 147 ± 22 kg, P < 0.01) and rate of force development (MA, 5,588 ± 2,488 N/s; AO, 2,156 ± 1,100 N/s; SO, 2,011 ± 825 N/s; young, 3,663 ± 1,140 N/s, P < 0.05) than the other groups. MA also exhibited higher musculus soleus normalized V waves during maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) [maximal V wave amplitude/maximal M wave during MVC (Vsup/Msup); 0.28 ± 0.15] than AO (0.13 ± 0.06, P < 0.01) and SO (0.11 ± 0.05, P < 0.01), yet lower than young (0.45 ± 0.12, P < 0.01). No differences were apparent between the old groups in H reflex recorded at rest or during MVC [maximal H reflex amplitude/maximal M wave during rest (Hmax/Mmax); maximal H reflex amplitude during MVC/maximal M wave during MVC (Hsup/Msup)], and all were lower ( P < 0.01) than young. MA (34.4 ± 2.1 ms) had shorter ( P < 0.05) H reflex latency compared with AO (36.4 ± 3.7 ms) and SO (37.3 ± 3.2 ms), but longer ( P < 0.01) than young (30.7 ± 2.0 ms). Using interpolated twitch analysis, MA (89 ± 7%) had plantar flexion voluntary activation similar to young (90 ± 6%), and this was higher ( P < 0.05), or tended to be higher ( P = 0.06–0.09), than SO (83 ± 10%) and AO (84 ± 5%). These observations suggest that lifelong strength training has a protective effect against age-related attenuation of efferent drive. In contrast, no beneficial effect seems to derive from habitual recreational activity, indicating that strength training may be particularly beneficial for counteracting age-related loss of neuromuscular function.

Extracts of female sex pheromone glands of the sand Salix carpenterworm moth, Holcocerus arenicola, a serious pest of desert thicket, were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Based on comparison of retention times and mass spectra of synthetic standards, four compounds were identifi ed as cis-7-tetradecen-1-ol (Z7 - 14:OH), cis-5-tetradecen-1-yl acetate (Z5 - 14:OAc), cis-7-tetradecen- 1-yl acetate (Z7 - 14:OAc), and cis-9-hexadecen-1-yl acetate (Z9 - 16:OAc) with the ratio of 24:39:100:43. Electroantennographic (EAG) analyses of these standard chemicals and their analogues showed that Z7 - 14:OAc elicited the largest male EAG response, followed by Z5 - 14:OAc and Z9 - 16:OAc. In fi eld trials, traps baited with either Z7 - 14:OAc or Z5 - 14:OAc captured males while Z7 - 14:OH-, Z9 - 16:OAc- or solvent-baited traps caught no males. Z7 - 14:OAc as a single component was signifi cantly more attractive than Z5 - 14:OAc alone. The combination of Z7 - 14:OAc and Z5 - 14:OAc showed an evidently synergistic effect and attracted much more males than the individual compounds in the field. Addition of Z7 - 14:OH to the blend of Z7 - 14:OAc and Z5 - 14:OAc enhanced slightly the trap catches. We conclude that the major components of the sex pheromone of H. arenicola are Z7 - 14:OAc and Z5 - 14:OAc. Twenty patients discontinued the drug and five died after a mean of 18.7 months (range, 4 to 35). Of the 20, 5 had arthropathy, 5 had gastrointestinal symptoms, 4 had a rising serum ferritin, 3 had agranulocytosis or neutropenia, 1 had tachycardia, 1 had renal failure, and 1 went abroad. Twenty-six patients continued deferiprone for a mean of 39.4 months (range, 12 to 49). Among these patients, there was no overall significant change in serum ferritin (initial mean, 2,937 μg/L; range, 980 to 5,970; final mean, 2,323 μg/L; range, 825 to 5,970) or in urine iron excretion (initial mean, 31.2 mg/24 h; range, 16.3 to 58.2; final mean, 32.1 mg/24 h; range, 9.4 to 75.8), implying no overall change in iron stores. When the patients who had received deferiprone for longer than 3 years were considered separately, there was also no significant change in serum ferritin or urinary iron excretion. The initial serum ferritin levels in the 26 patients who continued deferiprone treatment were significantly lower than in those who discontinued the drug (P < .01). The liver iron content in 17 patients who had received deferiprone for 24 to 48 months ranged from 5.9 to 41.2 mg/g dry weight, 50% having levels above 15.0 mg, a level associated with a high risk of cardiac disease due to iron overload. In this study the drug caused fewer side effects and was more effective at maintaining iron status among patients previously well chelated and with lower initial serum ferritin levels.

Kesebolite-(Ce), ideal formula CeCa2Mn(AsO4)[SiO3]3, is a new mineral (IMA No. 2019-097) recovered from mine dumps at the Kesebol Mn-(Fe-Cu) deposit in Västra Götaland, Sweden. It occurs with rhodonite, baryte, quartz, calcite, talc, andradite, rhodochrosite, K-feldspar, hematite, gasparite-(Ce), chernovite-(Y) and ferriakasakaite-(Ce). It forms mostly euhedral crystals, with lengthwise striation. The mineral is dark grayish-brown to brown, translucent, with light brown streak. It is optically biaxial (+), with weak pleochroism, and ncalc = 1.74. H = 5–6 and VHN100 = 825. Fair cleavage is observed on {100}. The calculated density is 3.998(5) g·cm−3. Kesebolite-(Ce) is monoclinic, P21/c, with unit-cell parameters from X-ray single-crystal diffraction data: a = 6.7382(3), b = 13.0368(6), c = 12.0958(6) Å, β = 98.578(2)°, and V = 1050.66(9) Å3, with Z = 4. Strongest Bragg peaks in the X-ray powder pattern are: [I(%), d(Å) (hkl)] 100, 3.114 (20-2); 92, 2.924 (140); 84, 3.138 (041); 72, 2.908 (014); 57, 3.228 (210); 48, 2.856 (042); 48, 3.002 (132). The unique crystal structure was solved and refined to R1 = 4.6%. It consists of 6-periodic single silicate chains along (001); these are interconnected to infinite (010) strings of alternating, corner-sharing MnO6 and AsO4 polyhedra, altogether forming a trellis-like framework parallel to (100).

Abstract The aim of this European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) prospective snapshot survey is to assess procedural settings, safety measures, and short-term outcomes associated with implantation of leadless pacemakers (LLPM), across a broad range of tertiary European electrophysiology centres. An internet-based electronic questionnaire (30 questions) concerning implantation settings, peri-procedural routines, complications, and in-hospital patient outcomes was circulated to centres routinely implanting both LLPMs and transvenous pacemakers (TV-PM). The centres were requested to prospectively include consecutive patients implanted with either LLPMs or TV-PMs during the 10-week enrolment period. Overall, 21 centres from four countries enrolled 825 consecutive patients between November 2018 and January 2019, including 69 (9%) implanted with LLPMs. Leadless pacemakers were implanted mainly under local anaesthesia (69%), by an electrophysiologist (60%), in the electrophysiology laboratory (71%); 95% of patients received prophylactic antibiotics prior to implantation. Most patients on chronic oral anticoagulation were operated on-drug (35%), or during short-term (to 48 h) drug withdrawal (54%). Implantation was successful in 98% of patients and the only in-hospital procedure-related complication was groyne haematoma in one patient. This EHRA snapshot survey provides important insights into LLPM implantation routines and patient outcomes. These findings suggest that despite the unfavourable clinical profile of pacemaker recipients, LLPM implantation is associated with relatively low risk of complications and good short-term outcomes.

The currently ongoing commercialization of high-temperature solid oxide electrolysis (SOEL) requires the understanding of the underlying dominant degradation mechanisms to enable continuous progress in reducing stack degradation rates. In the present study, the degradation behavior of stacks with chromium-based interconnects (MK35x) and electrolyte-supported cells (ESC) developed at Fraunhofer IKTS is investigated. For this purpose, the initial electrochemical performance of 10-layer stacks was extensively characterized in various operating conditions in both fuel cell and electrolysis mode by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Degradation was evaluated during galvanostatic steady-state steam electrolysis operation over >3000 h in the temperature range of 800-825°C at a current density of -0.6 A cm-2, corresponding to a steam conversion rate of 75%. EIS analysis was used to separate the different loss contributions in the stack and showed that the ohmic resistance increase was the dominating performance degradation phenomenon. Moreover, electrochemical degradation rates in steady-state SOEL mode are compared to the ones in reversible mode with a daily cycling between electrolysis and fuel cell operation. Post-mortem analysis was carried out with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to correlate the observed degradation phenomena with microstructural and morphological changes. The observed low degradation rates demonstrate that MK35x are ready for scale-up, and the present work gives guidance for operation strategies and stack design to extend their lifetime even further.

To measure interstitial glycerol and lactate production from the sc adipose tissue of two regions in nine black and nine white lean men, sc microdialysis was performed in combination with adipose tissue blood flow rates measured with 133Xe clearance. In the postabsorptive state, the plasma glucose and insulin levels of the black men and white men were similar. The black men had higher plasma free fatty acids (825 ± 97 vs. 439 ± 58 μmol/L; P &lt; 0.005), glycerol (99.5 ± 5.1 vs. 54.1 ± 3.3 μmol/L; P&lt; 0.0001), and lactate (1056 ± 95 vs. 729 ± 45 μmol/L; P &lt; 0.01). Interstitial glycerol concentrations in the black and white men were 227 vs. 163 μmol/L (P &lt; 0.01) and 230 vs. 162 μmol/L (P &lt; 0.05) in the abdominal and femoral regions. The adipose tissue blood flow rate was higher in the black men in the abdominal (7.9 ± 0.9 vs. 3.1± 0.5 mL/100 g·min; P &lt; 0.01) and femoral area (5.2 ± 0.6 vs. 2.8 ± 0.3; P &lt; 0.01). Interstitial lactate concentrations in black and white men were 1976 vs. 1364 μmol/L (P &lt; 0.004) and 1953 vs. 1321μ mol/L (P &lt; 0.004) in the abdominal and femoral regions, respectively. Glycerol release was higher in black men vs. white men for abdominal (0.21 ± 0.02 vs. 0.14 ± 0.02 μmol/100 g·min; P &lt; 0.02) and femoral (0.22 ± 0.02 vs. 0.15 ± 0.01; P &lt; 0.05) areas. Postprandially, black men had higher plasma glucose levels [1 h, 9.6 ± 0.4 vs. 8.2 ± 0.5 mmol/L (P &lt; 0.05); 2 h, 8.9 ± 0.4 vs. 7.2 ± 0.4 mmol/L (P &lt; 0.01)], but lower plasma insulin levels [1 h, 173 ± 13 vs. 264 ± 48 pmol/L (P &lt; 0.05); 2 h, 136 ± 20 vs. 209 ± 34 pmol/L (P &lt; 0.05)]. Plasma free fatty acid, lactate, and glycerol levels remained higher in the black men. After 1 h, lactate release was higher in the black men vs. that in the white men for abdominal (20.5 ± 1.6 vs. 14.7 ± 2.5 μmol/100 g·min; P &lt; 0.05) and femoral (15.6 ± 1.1 vs. 12.1 ± 1.8; P &lt; 0.03) areas. We conclude that the black men, who are relatively insulinopenic postprandially, have a brisker lipolysis and also release more lactate from sc fat tissue than white men. These differences in adipose tissue metabolism may be related to differences in the lipid profiles and glucose metabolism previously documented in these ethnic groups.

ABSTRACTOperant conditioning was used to measure the effect on the feeding motivation (hunger) of pigs of diluting nutrient restricted food allowances with straw. Twelve Large White × Landrace boars were maintained in individual pens where they received their daily food allowance. Prior to the experiment, the boars were conditioned in separate rooms to press a panel so as to receive small rewards of food. The effect of diluting meal with straw on panel pressing was investigated in two trials. In trial 1, the boars were allocated to the following treatments: high (H) (3·5 of maintenance (A/)), low (L) (1·5 M) and low/straw (LS) (1·5 M + 0·15 times the dry weight of meal as chopped straw). This dilution increased the food volume by proportionately 0·29. Operant response rates were measured in six 1-h tests in each of two periods at the start (days 3 to 10, period 1) and at the end (days 20 to 28, period 2) of the 28-day experiment. In trial 2, nine of the above boars were allocated to the following treatments: high (H) (3·0 A/), low (L) (1·5 M) and low/straw (LS) (1·5 M + 0·30 the dry weight of meal as ground straw). This dilution increased the food volume by proportionately 0·75. Operant response rates were measured as above between days 10 to 17, following a 9-day adjustment period to the new regimes.In both trials, operant response rate was strongly affected by treatment. Overall in trial 1, animals on the H treatment made few responses (mean 60 responses per session), animals on the L treatment made significantly more responses (mean 825, P < 0·001) and animals on the LS teatment significantly more responses yet again (1263, P < 0·05). This last difference was associated with the difficulty of the LS animals consuming all of the diluted diet during period 1. In trial 2, response rates were again higher on the L than on the H treatments. There was, however, no difference between the L and LS treatments (means: 60 v. 1035 v. 1200). Proportionately only 0·04 of the diet was refused during the period of testing.The present results show that short-term satiety arising from gut distension does not reduce the feeding motivation of animals on chronic nutrient restriction. This suggests that hunger will remain high i n pigs on restricted food allowances, even when they have access to high fibre foods. This hunger will be a potential source of stress, particularly in housing systems involving physical restraint such as tether stalls.

Abstract The present study investigates the characteristics of low-level jets (LLJs) (≥12.5 m s−1) below 600 hPa over northern Taiwan in the mei-yu season and their relationship to heavy rainfall events (≥50 mm in 24 h) through the use of 12-h sounding data, weather maps at 850 and 700 hPa, and hourly rainfall data at six surface stations during the period of May–June 1985–94. All LLJs are classified based on their height, appearance (single jet or double jet), and movement (migratory and nonmigratory). The frequency, vertical structure, and spatial and temporal distribution of LLJs relative to the onset of heavy precipitation are discussed. Results on the general characteristics of LLJs suggest that they occurred about 15% of the time in northern Taiwan, with a top speed below 40 m s−1. The level of maximum wind appeared mostly between 850 and 700 hPa, with highest frequency at 825–850 hPa. A single jet was observed more often (76%) than a double jet (24%), while in the latter case a barrier jet usually existed at 900–925 hPa as the lower branch. Migratory and nonmigratory LLJs each constituted about half of all cases, and there existed no apparent relationship between their appearance and movement. Migratory LLJs tended to be larger in size, stronger over a thicker layer, more persistent, and were much more closely linked to heavy rainfall than nonmigratory jets. They often formed over southern China between 20° and 30°N and moved toward Taiwan presumably along with the mei-yu frontal system. Before and near the onset of the more severe heavy rain events (≥100 mm in 24 h) in northern Taiwan, there was a 94% chance that an LLJ would be present over an adjacent region at 850 hPa, and 88% at 700 hPa, in agreement with earlier studies. Occurrence frequencies of LLJs for less severe events (50–100 mm in 24 h) were considerably lower, and the difference in accumulative rainfall amount was seemingly also affected by the morphology of the LLJs, including their strength, depth, elevation of maximum wind, persistence, proximity to northern Taiwan, source region of moisture, and their relative timing of arrival before rainfall. During the data period, about 40% of all migratory LLJs at 850 or 700 hPa passing over northern Taiwan were associated with heavy rainfall within the next 24 h. The figure, however, was much lower compared to earlier studies, and some possible reasons are offered to account for this deficit.

El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la prevalencia de sobrepeso, obesidad, niveles de actividad física y autoestima de la población escolar de San Pedro Sula. La muestra fue de 825 escolares con edades entre 9-13 años, los cuales fueron divididos en 416 mujeres y 409 hombres. Se realizaron mediciones del IMC (Kg/H^2), nivel de actividad física (PAQ-C) y autoestima (LAWSEQ). Se realizó un análisis factorial (ANOVA) para observar diferencias entre grupos y la correlación de Pearson para el estudio de relación de variables con intervalos de confianza del 95 %. Se encontró que el 79.8 % se encuentra en un estado de peso saludable; un 14.8 % en sobrepeso y obesidad y un 5.3 % en desnutrición, un nivel de actividad física moderado predomina en la mayoría de escolares, un nivel de autoestima bajo en 46.9 % y autoestima promedio de 50.5 %; también se mostró que el nivel de actividad física tiene correlación alta positiva con el sexo (r= 0.74 p= 0.02), siendo mayor en los escolares hombres que en las mujeres, también la actividad física tiene correlación positiva muy alta (r=0.81; p=0.001) con la autoestima. Nuestras conclusiones indican que se muestra una mayor práctica de actividad física por los escolares hombres de Honduras que por parte de las mujeres. Además, se encontró que un mayor nivel de realización de actividad física podría estar asociado a una mejor autoestima en los niños.
