The shock attack occurs at a railway vehicle circulation in a curve in which a discontinuous bend appears, mathematically represented by an angular point. In this point, shock angle produces an abrupt change of direction of the vehicle, respectively a dynamic shock force.The paper presents a mathematical model used to determine the dynamic force shock and its influence on vehicle guiding safety. The study was applied to the tank wagon on bogies for transportation of petroleum products, because such vehicles generally have derailed at circulation in curves in which have occurred accidentally discontinuous bends.It shows that the dynamic force may lead to an unacceptable increase of guiding force Y at leading axle of the vehicle, and therefore to overcome the (Y/Q)lim, which defines the limit of derailment, Q being the load on the attacking wheel.The conclusions indicate constructive measures to be taken to ensure the safety of the vehicle guiding at circulation in curves.

The article discusses new kinematic surfaces that can be attributed to the class of surfaces of congruent cross sections. The surfaces of congruent cross sections were first identified in a separate class by Professor I.I. Kotov. Circular, elliptical and parabolic cylinders are taken as the guiding surfaces, and circles and parabolas are taken as generating plane curves, which can be located in the plane of the generating curve of the guiding cylinder or in a plane parallel to its longitudinal axis. The introduction of a new independent parameter helped to solve the set geometric problems. The analytical formulas are presented in generalized form, so the shape of the flat generatrix curve can be arbitrary. Two types of surfaces are considered: 1) when the local axes of the generating curves remain parallel during their movement; 2) when these axes rotate. The resulting surfaces can be of interest to architects, or can find application in machine-building thin-walled structures or in the study of the trajectories of bodies during their oscillatory-translational motion.

Abstract Background and study aims In this study, we evaluated the performance of community hospitals involved in the Dutch quality in endosonography team regarding yield of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided tissue acquisition (TA) of solid pancreatic lesions using cumulative sum (CUSUM) learning curves. The aims were to assess trends in quality over time and explore potential benefits of CUSUM as a feedback-tool. Patients and methods All consecutive EUS-guided TA procedures for solid pancreatic lesions were registered in five community hospitals between 2015 and 2018. CUSUM learning curves were plotted for overall performance and for performance per center. The American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy-defined key performance indicators, rate of adequate sample (RAS), and diagnostic yield of malignancy (DYM) were used for this purpose. Feedback regarding performance was provided on multiple occasions at regional interest group meetings during the study period. Results A total of 431 EUS-guided TA procedures in 403 patients were included in this study. The overall and per center CUSUM curves for RAS improved over time. CUSUM curves for DYM revealed gradual improvement, reaching the predefined performance target (70 %) overall, and in three of five contributing centers in 2018. Analysis of a sudden downslope development in the CUSUM curve of DYM in one center revealed temporary absence of a senior cytopathologist to have had a temporary negative impact on performance. Conclusions CUSUM-derived learning curves allow for assessment of best practices by comparison among peers in a multidisciplinary multicenter quality improvement initiative and proved to be a valuable and easy-to-interpret means to evaluate EUS performance over time.

Introduction. The definition of surfaces of congruent sections was first formulated in the work written by I.I. Kotov. These and several other types of surfaces, generated by the motion of a curve, belonged to the class of kinematic surfaces. Such kinematic surfaces as those of plane parallel displacement, surfaces of rotation, Monge surfaces, cyclic surfaces with ge-nerating circles having constant radius, rotative and spiroidal surfaces, helical some helix-shaped surfaces can be included into the class of surfaces that have congruent sections. Materials and methods. Using I.I. Kotov’s methodology, the authors first derived parametrical and vector equations for eight surfaces of congruent pendulum type cross sections of circular, elliptic, and parabolic cylinders and several helix-shaped surfaces. Circles, ellipses, and parabolas, located in the plane of the generating curve of a guiding cylinder or in the planes of a bundle that passes through the longitudinal axis of a cylinder, generate plane curves. Ellipses, analyzed in the article, can be easily converted into circles and this procedure can increase the number of shapes analyzed here. Results. Formulas are provided in the generalized form, so the shape of a plane generating curve can be arbitrary. Some surfaces of congruent sections are determined by two varieties of parametric equations. In one case, the central angle of the guiding cylindrical surface was used as an independent parameter, but in the other case, one of rectangular coordinates of the cylinder’s guiding curve served as an independent parameter. Two types of surfaces are analyzed: 1) when local axes of generating curves remain parallel in motion; 2) when these axes rotate. Conclusions. The analysis of the sources and the results, recommendations and proposals for application of surfaces, having congruent sections, is made with a view to their use in architecture and technology. The list of references has 27 positions, and it shows that the surfaces considered in this paper are being analyzed by architects, engineers, and geometricians both in Russia and abroad.

For Tram cars, it is often necessary to operate in cities on strongly curved track, which is followed by an increased effect of the vehicle on the track. Especially, this increased effect occurs in spiral transition curves situated between direct and arc sections or between two arc sections of different radius. In such case, increased guiding forces, creep in the rail - wheel contact, wear and noise generation can be observed. Exactly with the aim to reduce these undesirable effects we designed a tram bogie with steered wheelsets. This paper deals with a modification of its coupling to vehicle body in order to improve vehicle dynamics in transition curves. Proposed innovative construction of this coupling unit is registered by authors under Utility Model Nr. u201609015 and Utility Model Nr. u201703246. Description of the proposed way for a vehicle to pass through curved track with regard to bogie-body coupling and wheelset steering mechanisms with usage of multibody computing software is given in this paper.

Abstract. Medium- to long-range forecasts often guide reservoir release decisions to support water management objectives, including mitigating flood and drought risks. While there is a burgeoning field of science targeted at improving forecast products and associated decision support models, data describing how and when forecasts are applied in practice remain undeveloped. This lack of knowledge may prevent hydrological modelers from developing accurate reservoir release schemes for large-scale, distributed hydrology models that are increasingly used to assess the vulnerabilities of large regions to hydrological stress. We address this issue by estimating seasonally varying, regulated inflow forecast horizons used in the operations of more than 300 dams throughout the conterminous United States (CONUS). For each dam, we take actual forward observed inflows (perfect foresight) as a proxy for forecasted flows available to the operator and then identify for each week of the year the forward horizon that best explains the release decisions taken. Resulting “horizon curves” specify for each dam the inferred inflow forecast horizon as a function of the week of the water year. These curves are analyzed for strength of evidence for contribution of medium- to long-range forecasts in decision making. We use random forest classification to estimate that approximately 80 % of large dams and reservoirs in the US (1553±50 out of 1927 dams with at least 10 Mm3 storage capacity) adopt medium- to long-range inflow forecasts to inform release decisions during at least part of the water year. Long-range forecast horizons (more than 6 weeks ahead) are detected in the operations of reservoirs located in high-elevation regions of the western US, where snowpack information likely guides the release. A simulation exercise conducted on four key western US reservoirs indicates that forecast-informed models of reservoir operations may outperform models that neglect the horizon curve – including during flood and drought conditions.

From the detailed qualitative analysis of the results, the variety laws of temperature field in indirect SLS are obtained. Plot results at different moments, temperature cyclic curves of key points and the curves of depth of fusion and width of fusion on the set paths, are of important guiding significance for subsequent physical experiments.

Abstract This paper proposes a novel method for shape design of a Bézier surface with given boundary curves. The surface is defined as the minimizer of an extended membrane functional or an extended thin plate functional under the guidance of a specified normal field together with an initial prescribed surface. For given boundary curves and the guiding normal field, the free coefficients of a Bézier surface are obtained by solving a linear system. Unlike previous PDE based surface modeling techniques which construct surfaces just from boundaries, our proposed method can be used to generate smooth and fair surfaces that even follow a specified normal field. Several interesting examples are given to demonstrate the applications of the proposed method in geometric modeling. Highlights Two extended energy functionals are proposed for variational surface modeling. The guiding normal field can be used to control the shapes of the variational surfaces efficiently. The proposed technique can be used for various modeling purposes like editing, hole filling or transition surface design.

The factors of combining horizontal and vertical curves are analyzed for guiding road design on expressway in practice and ensuring the safety and comfort of vehicle. The influences on drivers' by all kinds of flat vertical combination characteristics are researched. The necessary conditions meeting the horizontal and vertical combination rationality are proposed through the highway and driver characteristics. The identification sight on convex and concave vertical curve under driving at night and overpass are studied based on driver's sight guidance; the indexes of the vertical curve radius and length that my not meet horizontal including vertical combination are raised. Based on road surface drainage, the indexes that may not meet horizontal including vertical combination is proposed from the aspects of longitudinal slope, cross slope drainage and pavement structure. Comprehensive the design of flat vertical combination put forward the quantitative technical indicators that may not meet horizontal including vertical combination.

Two main objectives of this study are to plan the pre-designated route and develop a turning model along the route. The autonomous vehicle will plan and draw a pre-designated route by its travel system from the starting point to destination according the collected data during the man-driven test. The developed route can drive by pass the obstacles safely. The developed the turning moving model can compute the turning radium and angel according to the previous two positions and the present vehicle position. The computed values are used to control the vehicle motion. A program has been written to simulate the performance of developed functions of route design and turning movement. The simulated results are used to verify its controlled accuracy of motion. The simulated results show the developed vector guiding system can effectively control the vehicle to travel in a straight line or move with a turning radium which is bigger than 3m. If the turning radium is less than 3m, then the developed turning control system can obviously reduce the deviation between the vehicle and pre-designated route. The best control parameters are the restricted turning angle of 20 and the at least square sum for deviation of 7 previous points to be 750. They can improve the performance of autonomous vehicle to travel along a pre-designated route aobut 55.4%.

Vivemos neste século XXI num contexto de complexidade, incerteza e mudança, o que se reflete no mundo do trabalho. Assim, este mostra-se cada vez mais exigente relativamente às competências que os trabalhadores devem evidenciar, sendo que as competências técnicas já não são suficientes. De facto, é imperativo que os jovens desenvolvam igualmente competências pessoais e interpessoais para enfrentar e dar resposta às solicitações das organizações. Esta é uma preocupação de quem educa os jovens e dedica, diariamente, tempo em tarefas com esta missão.Os alunos dos cursos profissionais realizam uma transição da vida escolar para a vida profissional, através de um estágio ou formação em contexto de trabalho, em que a escola realiza parcerias com organizações locais, nomeadamente com empresas. Antes desta transição, os alunos já realizaram formação na sociedade, em diferentes contextos de aprendizagem, nomeadamente com agentes como a família e como a escola, os quais iniciam e lançam os alicerces essenciais à sua futura integração profissional. A referida transição permite pôr em prática as competências aprendidas e desenvolvidas com estes agentes, e desenvolver outras competências que são essenciais à realização profissional dos futuros trabalhadores e ao sucesso e desenvolvimento sustentado das organizações. Nesta fase o aluno é acompanhado, orientado e avaliado por tutores das organizações, que fazem a ponte com a escola, através de professores orientadores. Este trabalho apresenta um estudo de caso sobre as perceções que os tutores e os professores orientadores dos alunos de um agrupamento de escolas do centro do país têm relativamente ao contributo desta fase do percurso escolar para a formação do aluno. Dito de outra forma, a investigação aqui descrita pretendeu averiguar se a formação em contexto de trabalho acrescenta valor à formação dos alunos e a que nível é que isso ocorre, na perceção de quem dá continuidade à sua formação nesta fase. Com este objetivo, foram realizadas entrevistas aos tutores das empresas, onde os alunos realizam a formação em contexto de trabalho, e um focus group com os professores orientadores desta formação. A análise dos resultados permite concluir que a Formação em Contexto de Trabalho (FCT) contribui significativamente para a formação do aluno, verificando-se muitas vantagens para vários intervenientes, sendo que os alunos são os principais beneficiários. Eles têm a possibilidade de aplicar os conhecimentos teóricos, contactando com a realidade, obtêm mais conhecimento do mundo do trabalho, aprendendo e desenvolvendo muitas competências, não só técnicas, mas também pessoais e interpessoais, ficando mais preparados para ingressar no mercado de trabalho. Porém, o estudo também permite concluir que existem alguns constrangimentos que limitam o contributo da FCT. Com base nos resultados obtidos, são apresentadas algumas propostas de melhoria da FCT.
We live in this 21st century in a context of complexity, uncertainty and change, which is reflected in the world of work. Thus, this world is increasingly demanding regarding the skills that workers must demonstrate, and technical skills are no longer sufficient. In fact, it is imperative that young people also develop personal and interpersonal skills to face and respond to requests from organizations. This is a concern for those who educate young people and devote daily time to tasks with this mission.The students of professional courses make a transition from school to professional life, through an internship or training in a work context, in which the school establish partnerships with local organizations, namely with companies. Before this transition, students have already undergone training in society, in different learning contexts, namely with agents such as the family and the school, who initiate and lay the foundations essential for their future professional integration. This transition allows to put into practice the skills learned and developed with these agents, and to develop other skills that are essential to the professional fulfillment of future workers and to the success and sustained development of organizations. In this phase, the student is accompanied, guided and evaluated by tutors from the organizations, who make the bridge with the school, through guiding teachers.This work presents a case study about the perceptions that tutors and teachers guiding students from a group of schools in the center of the country have regarding the contribution of this phase of the school path to the formation of the student. In other words, the research described here aimed to ascertain whether training in the workplace adds value to the training of students and at what level does this occur, in the perception of those who guide their training at this stage. With this objective, interviews were conducted with the tutors of the companies where students carry out training in the workplace, and a focus group with the teachers who guide this training. The analysis of the results allows to conclude that the Training in Work Context (FCT) contributes significantly to the students’ training, with many advantages for several stakeholders, with the students being the main beneficiaries. They have the possibility to apply theoretical knowledge, contact reality, obtain more knowledge about the world of work, to learn and develop many skills, not only technical but also personal and interpersonal, thus becoming more prepared to enter the labor market. However, the study also allows us to conclude that there are some constraints that limit the contribution of FCT. Based on the results obtained, some proposals for improving the FCT are presented.

This chapter briefly discusses the history of the notion of "cure" in relation to serious mental illnesses from Pinel to the present day, including both theories on the nature of the illnesses and the nature of presumed therapeutic agents and mechanisms. The chapter then gives a brief overview of the notion of "recovery" in relation to serious mental illnesses, also from Pinel to the present day, and describes various definitions and forms of recovery as they have emerged over time. With this historical and conceptual background in place, the chapter then takes up the present state-of-the-art in psychiatry in relation to both concepts of cure and recovery, considers the empirical and neuroscientific evidence available relative to each concept, and then suggests several directions for research and philosophical reflection as the field continues to evolve. Two guiding principles that shape this discussion are that mental illnesses are not one-dimensional phenomena, but may be made up of several loosely related components which each have their own natural course, and that mental illnesses do not typically take over the entirety of a person's functioning, but also leave other aspects of functioning relatively intact. The combination of these principles suggests that cure and recovery are not likely to be binary functions in relation to serious mental illnesses (i.e., yes or no), but will more likely be more a matter of degree across multiple domains.

Reasonable evaluation of the bond performance between steel bars and concrete has important theoretical and practical value for reinforced concrete structural design and seismic analysis. The stress (τ) – strain (ε) formula is corrected based on a pull-out test, and the load (F) – deflection (w) curves are analyzed according to the change of stiffness before and after crack appearance based on a beam test, and new estimation formulas are given. At the same time, the bond properties are compared between all-lightweight shale ceramsite concrete (ALWSCC) and normal weight concrete (NWC). The results show that the bond property of ALWSCC is better than NWC. The bond stresses of pull-out specimens and beam specimens are the same or similar under equal conditions, but the ultimate load (F0) of the former is about 3.66 times that of the latter, the peak slip (S0) of the latter is 4.80 times that of the former, and the latter has significant splitting or pull-out failure characteristics. The peak slip (S0) in this paper is larger than that in the related literature, where the pull-out specimens are no more than 10 mm, and are generally less than 2 mm, while the beam specimens are not more than 3 mm, with the others generally around 1 mm. The research results have reference values and guiding significance for similar experimental research and engineering practice.

Departing from the caste-based and hereditary position of brahman priest, these young men see in guiding a “new form of the priesthood.” They are the mediators of knowledge about Brahma and Pushkar and, when guiding foreigners, about the wider world of Hinduism. In this capacity, they are cultural translators and comparative religionists of the highest order. But their jobs are not perfect. Limited opportunities and fierce competition for clients have created friction with foreign tourists. Those who do not want to do this work find it hard to get a steady job outside of Pushkar’s industries of tourism and pilgrimage. Bounded to both Brahma and Pushkar, brahmans believe themselves cursed, sometimes metaphorically and literally, to a life on the lake.

On the one hand, the characteristics of the turnout flow in the river are related to the stability of the turnout flow, and on the other hand, it is related to the safety of the flowing buildings near the bend turnout river. To observe the characteristics of the flow field in the chaotic river, the open channel surface layer digital particle image velocity (DPIV) system is used to measure the data in the physical model of the curved turnout river, and the maximum flow eccentricity (MFE) of the channel section is established. The flow pattern of the turnout flow is analyzed. The results show that the MFE index can effectively evaluate the flow pattern of the turnout flow. The MFE of the upper stream section of the curved river changes with the sudden change position of the flow between twice to 3.5 times the water surface width from the center point, and moves upstream with the increase of the flow rate, and moves downstream with the increase of the water level. This characteristic has guiding significance for the adjustment of the flow pattern of the front pool of the building.

Focuses on Joyce’s interest in visual analysis of movement, another technological and scientific drive leading to film. Joyce’s ‘epiphany’ resembles the camera’s defamiliarising gaze. This tendency evolved through Portrait’s three versions. Its mobile, camera-eyed focalisation and ‘montage’ structure stem from speculations about picturing the ‘rhythm’ or ‘curve’ of a developing mind in his 1904 version. Portrait constituted a breakthrough into ‘stream of consciousness’ form through synergy with experimental photography: Muybridge’s ‘animal locomotion studies’ and Marey’s ‘Chronophotographie’. These captured transitory phenomena, picturing time and recomposing action as a series of moments to apprehend its reality. Muybridge’s sequences anticipate the filmstrip, eventually animating consecutive stills into a ‘fluid succession of presents’. Similarly, Marey’s overlapping shots liberated the ‘individuating rhythm’ of a moving body, as a rising and falling ‘curve’. Thus Joyce’s means of picturing the psycho-sensory movement of consciousness used such dissection and recomposition of physical motion as guiding metaphor. Portrait’s ‘mobilised virtual gaze’ and interiorised ‘rhythm’ are based on imagistic association overlapping present perceptions and memories, tracing a pattern towards Stephen’s vocational future, simultaneously the novel’s underlying topic and form and taking Joyce’s cinematicity into a new phase.

A graphical four bar linkage synthesis method for planar rigid body guidance is presented. This method, capable of synthesis for up to five specified coupler positions, uses the poles and rotation angles, which are constraints, to define guiding links. Faster and simpler than traditional graphical synthesis methods, this method, allows the designer to see and consider most or all the possible solutions within a few seconds before making any free choices. All of the guiding links satisfying five specified coupler positions can be obtained graphically within 30 minutes without plotting any Burmester curves and without any mechanism design software. For four positions, both the circle and center point curves are simultaneously traced by corresponding circle-center point pairs using three poles having a common subscript and the corresponding rotation angles without any additional construction. This method eliminates the iterative construction required in previous methods which were based on free choices rather than constraints. The tedious plotting of Burmester curves graphically using pole quadrilaterals is also eliminated. The simplicity of the method makes four and five position synthesis practical to do graphically. A corresponding analytical solution is presented which provides a simpler formulation than the previous solution method. This new method requires two fewer equations and provides a new way to plot Burmester curves analytically.

Abstract Burmester’s solution to the problem of guiding a body through four precision points has been extended to find planar mechanisms that have their pivots located inside prescribed regions. The complex number formulation has been used to generate the Burmester curves. A random search technique was developed to choose a new set of precision points that lie within user specified limits, in order to find a set of curves that pass through the desired regions. A computer program was written to generate Burmester curves that lie within the desired regions, while maintaining a coupler motion within satisfactory limits. An automobile suspension linkage was successfully designed using this program.

By using Gaussian approximation, the modal spot size equation of a weakly guiding double-clad elliptical (DCE) fiber has been numerically solved. The variations of both the spot size and the field intensity with core ellipticity are examined. The results show that, compared with single-clad elliptical fibers, a smaller spot size and a more confined field distribution can be obtained. The polarization properties are also examined and presented as curves in terms of the three parameters: major/minor core axis ratio, inner cladding and core index difference, and inner cladding/core radius ratio. The curves of birefringence as a function of normalized frequency for the different parameters show that high bire-fringence can be obtained within the single-mode region by using DCE fibers.

Abstract Fracturing fluids will carry an amount of proppant flowing back to the wellbore due to the inappropriate flowback schedule, which causes some parts of fractures to be closed without support. The appearance of closed fracture sections without support (pinch point) has a serious negative effect on well performance and is also a potential signal of refracturing. A four-region model considering fracture closure is developed to detect pinch points by analyzing production data in material equilibrium time. Therefore, a novel four-region flow model is proposed to study the influence of pinch points on well dynamics performance in the initial stage of production and to diagnose the pinch point. In this model, the fluid flow to the wellbore is regarded as three parts: matrix, fracture, and pinch points. The position of the pinch point on the fracture (near wellbore) is considered. The existence of pinch points makes the fracture conductivity segmented, and the partial closure of fracture can be simulated by setting different fracture lengths, widths, and permeability. The flow in each region is treated as the linear flow and is coupled through boundary conditions and flux supply. Thereby, the mathematical model of flow containing pinch points is established. This paper analyzes the production data of oil well, draws the logarithmic curve of RNP and its derivative RNP’ versus the material balance time (MBT), and conducts rate transient analysis to determine the occurrence of pinch points. In the case of the near-wellbore pinch point, the slope of the first half of RNP curves is relatively small, while the slope of the back section is about 1/2. Compared with RNP curves, the early slope of RNP’ curves is relatively large and gradually changes into the linear flow stage with a slope of 1/2. Different properties of pinch points mainly affect the slope of the left and right ends of RNP and RNP’ curves. The new analysis method can be used to analyze the influence of fracture closure position and degree of fracture closure on well productivity. Finally, the novel four-region flow analysis model was applied to the analysis of oil production data from a typical well in Ordos Basin. The length, width, and permeability of the near-wellbore fracture closure section can be obtained by fitting the proposed chart. The novel four-region flow model method and its curve characteristics provided in this article can be used as an important reference for judging whether there is a pinch point in fracture. It has a certain guiding significance for the formulation of fracturing schemes for new wells and whether old wells need refracturing in actual production.

Abstract The axial velocity field in a tube of arbitrary cross-section geometry is determined for the case in which a viscoelastic fluid obeys a constitutive law of the multiple-integral type. The flow is linearized by means of a perturbation scheme for small amplirud oscillations of the pressure gradient. At the first order for the velocity, a solution is found for cross-section contours of a wide variaty of shapes. In this method the no-slip boundary condition is imposed in contours whose shape depends on an infinite set of arbitrary functions that can be selected according to some guiding rules. In this manner, the resulting cross-sections approach ellipses, triangles, squares and many other regular and non-regular shapes. The analysis shows that very complex flow patterns, as depicted by isovel curves, develop according to the values of the fluid parameters and the solid boundary shapes. These results are necessary for further developments leading to the study of secondary flows. The paper presents the analytical formulations and the flow fields associated to several tube geometries and different values of the fluid parameters.

Abstract This paper introduces the virtual teacher, a device or agent that supplements an environment in order to facilitate acquisition by a human user of a manual skill. Like the virtual fixture, a virtual teacher generally acts as an aide or facilitator to task execution, but unlike the virtual fixture, the virtual teacher is present only during training periods. During eventual task performance the teacher is absent. The virtual teacher’s objective, implicitly understood by the user, is to promote independent mastery over the task. We review and organize common paradigms for the teaching of manual skills in real-world settings and use these as inspiration for the design of virtual teachers. In particular, we are interested in the ways in which a teacher, real or virtual, can demonstrate a strategy or impart a ‘feel’ for a task by guiding movement of the pupil’s hand. A pilot study involving 24 participants was used to test the virtual teacher concept with a simulated crane moving task. The present virtual teacher implementation did not significantly improve learning curves. However, further performance interpretations indicate that the lack of positive effect can be remedied with modifications to the virtual teacher that address component skills and ensure suitability to various initial skill levels.

Experimental demonstration of optical guiding of a high intensity (above 1016w/cm2) laser pulses over a distance of 66mm in cylindrical plasma channel formed by a slow capillary discharge is presented. Optical guiding of high intensity pulse in a curved trajectory (radius of curvature = 10 cm) is demonstrated for the first time. It is shown experimentally, that the guiding is insensitive to the laser intensity in wide range (108-1016w/cm2). The propagation of a high intensity laser pulse in the channel is analyzed using 2-D numerical simulation code.

Abstract This paper outlines the methodology when performing structural reliability analysis (SRA) for wellhead fatigue of a complete field compared to individual wells. The field consist of several well and template systems from different suppliers. Further this paper will emphasize on added knowledge that can arise from the field vs. well analysis approach. Finally, some advice and guiding on necessary prerequisites for launching a field SRA will be shared. The methodology followed previous advices, with the added element that all wells were categorized depending on similarities in well design. Furthermore, a number of local finite element analyses for a specified systematic set of variations in input parameters have been performed by relevant equipment manufacturers to calculate the fatigue stress at critical hot spots (load-to-stress curves). Similar actions on loads had to be performed. A comprehensive set of global load analyses for each of the different rigs that have been operating on the field where needed to assess the cyclic fatigue loads from historical operations on each well. Finally, global and local analysis results were then gathered, and used as input to the SRA combined with a response surface technique. The additional effort for making the underlying global and local analyses covering all wells, and not only a single well, is limited for a given type of wellhead system. The field results now provide the operator with an improved basis for planning of future operations on the field, and enables optimization of the drilling plan and utilization of rigs throughout the varying environmental conditions for different seasons of the year and different operations, while managing the associated risk.
