The present work aims to a conceptual strategy that runs through different scales operating from the city of Lisbon territory associated to the Campo Grande area until the definition of the detail is materialized on the proposed equipment: an expansion of a Museum for the City for the XX/XXI centuries. The used methodology was implied by the development of these elements and mediated by the critical reflexion supported in the theoretical references that focus on fundamental themes such as: the relation with the City, the Territory and the Place for the constitution of a new sense of urbanity promoted by the Museum recalling the concern of becoming a Monument. The final definition associated to a drawing of the project has the objective of critically reflect about these fundamental architecture themes in which the main conclusion is to be constituted by the drawn building that does not conclude the maturation process even though it reafirms its qualities enounciating itself before the set of possibilities that are somehow cleared by the established idea of architecture.

In an effort to confront global warming and the increasing scarcity of resources, the preservation community began several years ago to adopt sustainable and green building practices and metrics for historic rehabilitation projects. As a result, there is an ever growing number of rehabilitated historic buildings in the United States not only incorporating sustainable building designs but also achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Most of these are large, architect-designed buildings in urban settings rehabilitated for cultural and commercial uses. This thesis explores the application of the LEED 2009 New Construction and Major Renovation Rating System for the development of a sustainable rehabilitation plan for the modest vernacular 1897 Jeff. Smith's Parlor Museum in Skagway, Alaska. The goal of this research is to demonstrate how the LEED rating system might be applied to the rehabilitation of this building and other historic vernacular buildings.

image of the minorities, i.e., Armenians and Greeks, the Turks being other. The research is carried out on the basis of the literary works produced by the intellectuals / authors of these minorities. The historical context, which is taken as the reference point for these discourses, covers the period from the late Ottoman Period up to the early 1960s. Furthermore, the study explores how the ethnic minorities constructed their identities in the last century. This study also seeks to find out which discourses have been the leading ones through history and to determine the continuities and ruptures in the use of themes by these ethnic groups to construct their identities. In addition, policies and ideologies attributed to the state by the minorities are tackled with the literary works and main discursive elements used by minority groups to (de)construct Turkish national identity are explored.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: "The growth of any discipline depends on the ability to communicate and develop ideas, and this in turn relies on a language which is sufficiently detailed and flexible" (Singh 1997: 59). Many metaphors relating to creativity are too misleading, confusing, and restricted in scope for a meaningful exploration of the phenomenon and its fluctuating social and cultural contexts. Given the Muse's long-term association with literature, philosophy, education, and more recently, the fine arts and other "creative" fields, an analysis of this concept may provide a unique opportunity to gain insight into the "mechanisms" underlying the creative process. Since affiliation with the Muse appears to have signalled attainment of critical cultural and/or social status by cultural practitioners in various societies, from the ancient to the present (a category which was broadened substantially), it is thus logical to assume this concept encompasses and has accumulated characteristics particular to the creative process as historically and currently valued in Western culture. Given the limited scope of the thesis, I have focused on specific concerns: 1) Provide an overview of the history, origin and development of the concept via specific examples ranging from antiquity, the medieval period, and the modern. 2) Assess the changes which have occurred in the development of the concept, and postulate likely causes: such as for example, the impact of an increased focus on the visual - and by extension, the physical - due to a more literate populace, on a concept originally conceived of as experienced through predominantly audial means. 3) Identify closely related concepts, the characteristics of which may have played a role in the formulation of the initial concept, along with those integrated into it, to form the modern version of the Muse: examples include the influence of the myth of Pygmalion on notions regarding the poet's relationship with both material and Muse; and the consequences of an amalgamation of characteristics of Aphrodite with those of the pastoral Muse. 4) Explore the extent to which the Muse-poet interaction can reveal fundamental aspects of the creative process and its main components: the differences between the public invocation and experience of the Muse in an oral context, as opposed to the privately experienced Muse of the literate poet; also, the changes imposed on the concept's perceived means of functioning due to its extension to the practice of the visual arts; and the correlation between the Jungian notion of the anima and aspects of the Muse. 5) Postulate the fundamental aspects of the creative process as revealed by analysis of the concept of the Muse for further investigation. In brief then, the main intention of this thesis is simply to examine by analysis of particular examples, the feasibility of applying the concept of the Muse as metaphor through which to identify for further exploration, issues and themes relating to the production and changes in social assessment of creative enterprises.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: "The growth of any discipline depends on the ability to communicate and develop ideas, and this in turn relies on a language which is sufficiently detailed and flexible" (Singh 1997: 59).

The research focuses on the eclectic figure of Raffaele Gargiulo, who was a dealer, an expert, a restorer, a collector, a controversial figure in the history of the Naples Museum and Neapolitan antiques market in the first half of the nineteenth century. Starting from his collection of antiquites, one of the richest coming from Magna Graecia and which arrived in the Naples Museum, we have primarily examined the vases and have tried to analyze the restoration methods, the materials used and the choices made to reconstruct the criteria that guided the practice of the vases restoration in the Royal Bourbon Museum in the first half of the nineteenth century. The research analyzes the historical events that led to the purchase, by the Museum, of Raffaele Gargiulo’s collection, focusing mainly on the study of the vases collection. The research, enriched by archival documentation aimed at illustrating the long negotiation in the acquisition of the objects, which began in 1852 and ended in 1855, has shown the judgements and the choices made by the Neapolitan Museum in cooperation with the Commissione di Antichità e Belle Arti. Furthermore, it has contributed to define the figure of the restorer-dealer Gargiulo and his relationship with the people interested in the deal. A combination of archival documentation, old inventories and surveys in the Museum’s stores has allowed us to identify the Gargiulo’s vases collection (about 481 vases) and all the "Gargiulo’s vases" in the Museum. The vases catalogue has been created, in order to classify them according to type of ceramic, with an individual file for each vase. Thanks to the catalogue, which has aimed to the reconstruction of the collection, we have been able to highlight the aspects related to the criteria and to the taste of the collector Gargiulo and of the figures involved (Minister, Director of the Museum, experts, etc.). They have all contributed to the enrichment of the collections of the Naples Museum through the variety of artifacts and provenance from different locations in the Naples Kingdom. The research has also investigated the figure of the restorer Gargiulo, his "career" and his activities at the «Officina dei Vasi Italo-greci» of the Naples Museum. The restoration methods have been analyzed on some vases that still preserve the ancient interventions, focusing on a comparative study between old photos and archival documentation

ABSTRACT Because of misuse of the Earth's resources and increasingly severe pollution of the environment, environmental protection has become one of the world's most pressing issues. In line with the importance attached to this issue and green product trends, green thinking will be an important future trend in the development and design of museum cultural products. This research project performed case studies of six museums in the greater Taipei area: National Palace Museum, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum, Su Ho Memorial Paper Museum, and Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines. This museum case study seeks to assess green museum cultural products. The customer questionnaire survey investigates three aspects in order to explore the current state and future prospects of green museum cultural products, and recommended green design principles for museum cultural products are provided. Chief discoveries: 1. The Status Quo of Museum Cultural Products (1) Assessment of products indicated that the focus of museum cultural products has shifted from past stationery goods to everyday articles. According to the result of the survey, 35% of respondents indicated that they purchased museum cultural products as gifts, while 43% of the respondents purchased museum cultural products for personal use. The result demonstrates that museum cultural products have become a top choice consumer product for gifting or personal use. (2) Most consigned or imported products lack cultural elements specific to the museum in question. Only a very small number of special-theme museums sell products that are readily associated with the museum's cultural elements, such as Su Ho Memorial Paper Museum, and Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines (3) The environmental aspects of most green museum cultural products are connected with the products per se. However, greater attention to the use of environmental-friendly materials in packaging would be better ensure that products are green both inside and outside. 2. Green Expending and Environmental Messages (1) Depending on the survey, 92% of the respondents indicated that they would be willing, within the scope of their budgets, to spend more money purchasing museum cultural products with environmental-friendly concepts. As long as they were provided with more clear environmental information and choices, consumers would have greater environmental consciousness and pursue consumerism with even greater enthusiasm. (2) As for publicizing the environmental concept of museum cultural products and related information, apart from necessary information on packaging, explanations by sales personnel should have a significant reinforcing effect. In addition, museums should provide special environmental product areas allowing customers to select museum cultural products with environmental concepts. This might be an effective touchstone of green museum cultural products. (3) To base on the survey, 92% of the respondents indicated that they would support museum cultural products. Therefore, museum cultural products should make a transition from the fine replicas of the past to a diversified array of products emphasizing aesthetics, creativity, practical functions, environmental protection, and respect for the Earth. 3. The Strategies for Developing Museum Cultural Products (1) It was discovered that most museums lack clear green museum cultural product development strategies, and only a small number of museums have used environmental-friendly materials in the development of cultural products. In general, it has yet a great room for improvement. (2) 69% of respondents indicated that they would be willing to spend more money purchasing museum cultural products with environmental-friendly concepts and 92% of respondents showed that they would support green museum cultural products. In order grasp opportunities and to create a win-winn situation, Museum must formulate strategies to develop products embodying both cultural creativity and environmental protection. (3) Museum managers have received the concept of green museum cultural products rather positively. The successful development and sale of green products must depend on first achieving a consensus among all personnel at the museum. Museum managers must put the issue in perspective in order to develop green museum products. In summary, museums should deeply consider their social responsibility to offer green museum cultural products that are designed with both cultural creativity and environmental

Green Island Human Rights and Cultural Park is a very meaningful historical site, not only sustains the histories and life-stories during the "white terror period",it also bears the responsibility in preserving the "historicity" of the local civilians.Tracking the time trend, the functions of the museum shifted to the Union of the community and the particularity of the Green Island Human Rights Museum, these deeply influenced local population daily life's and activities. Therefore, since it's establishment, the services carried out by the museum could it meet the needs and expectations of the local people or would it be the platform for future management ? Through mass, placid and sincere visits of the local citizens from different points of views and status, their feedbacks would definitely be the basic references for future management.Other than this, the documentaries and researched data would also be included in my paper. The core target is to look for a better way in the future how the museum and the local people could work together closely and affectively. Concluded as follow: 1. The main operations and services will depend on the needs and projects of the museum at different stages of the administration teams. Exhibition priority and contents are essential in focusing the development and the combination of the Human Rights history to cultural tourism. 2. The impacts due to the establishment of the park to the local civilians' life's are mainly considered how to increase jobs opportunity and tourists attraction. 3. Diversifications of activities with more involvements of the local citizens in the decisions of it's contents, participants, locations and timings,so to fulfill the local civilians's expectations and needs. 4. The activities and services provided and originated in the past by the park were neither attractive nor incentive to the public,so inducing no enthusiasm for any further cooperation and were not encouraging. So,we target on the continuity and long term development of the park.We suggests the park should work more tightly with the local community and firmly sticks to every single activity plans to be carried out in exactness as well to negotiates an acceptable timings and contents to all participants. Training able and prospective personnels and the cooperation with the local community are as essential .Tracking strictly and precisely through the preservation of the historical sites, promotion of human rights education projects , the collection of historical records and working closely with the Green Island civilians would greatly enhance the human rights concepts.

In the wake of World War Two, Taiwan suffered the huge impact of the February 28 Incident of 1947 and the subsequent White Terror. In the mid-1980s, social movements began to stir, as the democratic movement delivered a fierce attack on the old order. Calls for the redressing of history and the establishment of commemorative museums were a part of this movement, with the erection of commemorative plaques dedicated to the February 28 Incident and the White Terror, not to mention commemorative locations, museums (such as former political prisons) and the like, as the memorialization phenomenon took hold. This culture of memory became an important part of the research into society and culture of the period. Likewise on the international stage, reflecting the global "memorial hall fever" of the museum world, this movement suddenly became a unique feature of global consciousness, international politics and the economic environment. Most of the world''s memorial museums were founded after World War Two, with the number rapidly increasing in the 1980s, so their developmental history has been short. As they touch on the topic of democratic transitional justice of the period, the memorial museums, connected as they are with the global memory research fever, constitute a new subject of research into cultural memory. This study makes use of archival materials of the memorial museums, research on memory and on transitional justice, and practical considerations of planning and design to explicate how the memorial museums in Taiwan relate to international organizations and case examples, and, together with a look at the dialogue between politics and aesthetics, explores the current phenomenon of memorial museum culture. Are memorial museums primarily matters of history or of the memory? Unlike traditional historical museums, they mark the intersect between museums, history and memory in a multi-faceted subject. Taking the Taipei 228 Memorial Museum and the Green Island Human Rights Culture Park as case studies, this research explores the role of memory in the planning of Taiwan''s memorial museums and what sort of memory is manifested in the memorial museum culture. Making use of relatively new territory in museum research, it probes the new cultural phenomena and intellectual challenges of the scientific frontier, examining the prominent areas human rights and public space in memorial museums, and how they have inspired the imagining and bringing to fruition the country''s national human rights museums.

Green marketing is a marketing strategy derived from green consumption. The concept of green consumption was first seen in Our Common future, the report of WCED in 1987. The concept of “sustainable development” was mentioned in the report. In recent years, local and central governments have been valued the concept of green marketing. Enterprises would consider sustainability when they are making business decisions. In the green marketing trend, the government actively promotes low carbon economy by choosing representative green stores, restaurants, and hostels. These representative profit entities would help the district in becoming a representative green shopping district, and other shopping districts would follow it. Therefore, they would value their image as environmental friendly, and a whole new landscape in shopping districts’ competition was shaped. This study would demonstrate green marketing’s impact on the development of urban shopping district and explore the essential elements of green marketing. By case study, the connection between green marketing and the development of the shopping district would be shown in this essay.

This paper systematically analyzes the debates surrounding the origins of Dark Tourism. 2 case studies were selected (The Green Island Human Rights Memorial Park and The 228 Memorial Museum in Taipei) to approach the subject in Taiwan, locating them along the existent literature to prove their relation with the phenomena. Because dark tourism places are sites where people encounter death and suffering, many management issues emerge around them. For example: Ethical, interpretation and marketing/promotional. Therefore, suppliers need to manage such places appropriately based upon understanding and respect of the victim's death and their families. However, this is not always the case and many sites of death around the world have been commodified and commercialized. The main purpose of this research is to address and find the issues exposed around the management of dark tourism in the 2 case studies. To finally analyze the impact these issues had along the creation, evolution and development of the sites.

Due to different life experiences and social changes, there is a gap of attitudes and values between different generations. Sometimes, they fail to understand each other and cause conflicts. In recent years, museums have conducted various activities to enhance intergenerational learning and communication. How do the elderly who suffered from the White Terror interact with the young generation who grew up after the lifting of martial law? What is the role and function of oral histories and museum resources applied and interpreted by White Terror victims? Thus, this research aimed to study the “Green Island Human Rights Road - Youth Experience Camp” as a case study. The camp invited political victims to share their history of white horror and the life experiences of persecution with students. In the end, the students expressed their feedback by performances. The study discovered that guided tour by political victims with oral history provide vivid exhibits images and reality of the suffering and prosecution. They also tried to alleviate the generational barriers by identifying with students. Memories of real people and events helped students to understand the history and viewpoints from different perspectives so that students could understand the atrocities and remember the lesson of history and human rights. The political victims' attitude toward life also inspired students how to face their challenges and difficulties. In addition, students' performances demonstrated their understanding of white terror and their empathy for political victims. The performances consoled the political victims' regret that they have never participated their graduation ceremonies. Apart from the political human rights issues, students also showed concerns of contemporary environment and human rights and claimed that they would act on human rights, democracy, freedom, and so on. However, the political victims often shared their personal experiences which limited the human rights learning. This study suggests that the organizer can held history and human rights courses before the camp that could help students absorb knowledge more comprehensively in the camp. In addition, students can take active role to interview political victims to establish two-way communication. More time for students to explore and visit museums will enhance students' critical thinking and concepts of human rights.

The purpose of this study is to understand the aesthetic education perspective of Maxine Greene, and to associate it with the drama course program designed by Professor Mei-chun Lin for National Museum of Taiwan History--Wushe incident “Real People” [Treasure Case]. This study used “case study methods” to enroll grade 8 junior high school students in two classes as the subjects. This study provided 3 classes of teaching to understand students’ learning effectiveness. The research results showed that, through the learning and application of drama educational strategies, students could associate themselves with aesthetic education perspective of Maxine Greene: Attending, Imagination, Perceiving, Reflection, and Community. The results are described as follows: 1. Students’ attendance in drama course can improve learning effectiveness; 2. By associating imagination with perception, students can develop new perspectives through the integration of new with old experiences; 3. After the end of learning, students can engage in self-reflection; 4. The integration of aesthetic education with drama courses can fulfill the concept of democratic community. The implementation results of this study can be provided as reference for teachers at teaching scenes to put a series of historical teaching aids of National Museum of Taiwan History into practice in performance art course in junior high schools to achieve the idea of aesthetic education of 12-year compulsory education.
Marcellus como Hermes Logios (a copy) and O Repouso by Gustavo Bastos are two sculptures of the didactic art collection of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. The first one can be related to a teaching method that this institution has applied over time and that is common to all art academies, which promotes the study of art based on observation and copy of models. While the second one stands for a greater freedom in artistic education, valuing modernity and the creativity of its students. Therefore, the collection belonging to this institution’s museum places itself as of great interest to the public and of undeniable patrimonial value, both making indispensable and urgent its study and preservation. The scarcity of information regarding conservation methods for most of the materials that constitute this works of art (e.g. plaster and cement, as is the case of both sculptures involved) justifies the development and application of specific methods and techniques. Furthermore, given the growing and natural concern with environmental sustainability and health risks for the operator, it is important to establish solutions and treatment methods that are in accordance with the principles of green conservation. The present dissertation thus aims to contribute to the establishment of appropriate methodologies for the treatment of both indoors and outdoors sculptures of a pedagogic nature made of gypsum or cement-based mortars. The analytic techniques implemented have confirmed the complexity of the materials and, therefore, reinforced the need for a careful definition of the procedures to be applied. Hence, it presents substantiated treatment proposals, documenting their application and the success of the conservation processes implemented in each one of the sculptures. The methods selected have good performance and efficiency with little damage to the environment and little risk to the conservator-restorer. Nevertheless, the research carried out in the field of green conservation has shown that the definition of a methodology with uniform and transversal criteria is difficult, depending on a balance between different factors such as protection of the environment, the operator's health and the quality of the cleaning and preservation work.
