Hazing in collegiate settings, both Greek and non-Greek, damages educational institutions’ reputations and creates liability as they seek to maintain the safety of their students. This study examines hazing activities that take place during the initiation process of Black Greek Letter Organizations (BGLOs). Utilizing qualitative research, it provides insight into the motivations of undergraduates who participate in BGLO hazing initiation rituals. Using National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and Pennsylvania State Law definition of hazing, this study focuses on an underexamined population generally overlooked by researchers in this field. Examining BGLO members’ familiarity with hazing prior to taking part revealed three levels of awareness: not aware, moderately aware, and very aware. Participants also indicated what kinds of dangers they were aware of, how they became aware of such dangers, and other facets of hazing they knew about prior to their participation in the activity. Members chose to join an organization where they believed hazing existed due to various factors: Confidence & Past Success, Intrapersonal Benefits, Societal Benefits, Perceptions of Hazing, Personal Relationships, Compatibility, Lack of Options, and Following Traditions. BGLO members’ willingness to undergo hazing sprang from the following factors: Long-term Benefits, Validation, The Bonds of Initiation, Personal Relationships, Acceptance, Perceptions of Hazing, Explanatory Justification. Finally, participants in this study indicated five roles that hazing plays in the initiation process of BGLO: Producing Better People, The Cycle of Re-Creation, Organizational Benefits, Validating Membership and Not Worth It. This project highlights the failure of higher educational institutions to play a key role in protecting students, specifically BGLO members, from the dangers of hazing and offers remedies for that oversight, including anti-hazing policies, hazing support services, membership intake processes, and fraternal organization advisement implications, as well as areas for future research on this topic.

Повний текст джерелаThe pursuit for environmental sustainability of business firms and the active participation of not-for-rofit organisations worldwide in proactive deal with environmental problems in recent decade have contributed a great effort to the environmental movement. One reason is related to the environmental degeneration in some regions and the increase in individual environmental footprint that urges the societal change in socio- cological responsibility. The other reason is the recognition of green rewards that environmental performance brings to a firm, including both intrinsic outcomes and extrinsic outcomes ensuring sustainable development goals. This thesis envisions an eco-living future of clean, safe, and healthy toward which the participating organisations' environmental orientations need to comply to corporate ethics of green mission in terms of reducing social inequality and preventing environmental crisis. This requires the appropriate enablement of corporate environmental performance of no below standard and no extremism from both green and nongreen actors. In corporate green mission, employees are accountable for their participation in environmental practices. Their pro-environmental attitudes and pro-environmental behaviours determine their corporate environmental performance, which is conceptualized to encompass environmental management and environmental operation practices. To both the pioneers and the newcomers in this green field, forging a pro-environmental workforce of talented managers and fully skilled workers is vital to the organisational survival and success provided they have ecological value congruence and are willing to engage in focus environmental orientation, meaning organisational pro-environmental behaviours. Therefore, attracting the fit pro-environmental individuals should be executed in a consistent manner to recruit and maintain their environmental performance as well as to remove their intention to leave early. Since green recruitment and selection is the foremost in the green organisational life cycle to guarantee pro-environmental workforce in quality, green candidate attraction is worth doing in a proactive manner in order to recruit, attract, identify and select the right type of pro-environmental talents. However, in the context of blooming Marketing and greenwashing or in case where there is dishonesty on environmental characteristics of both recruiters and applicants, how the organisational attraction should be conducted in a pro-environmental and corporate ethic manner to generate early the job seekers' positive perceptions of organisational attractiveness for environment in the one part and detect the fit ones in the other? Likewise, due to recent decades' rapid changing life of manipulation and deception, particularly in an « arms race », what key signalling factor is to make the pro-environmental talents and potentials recognise a true pro-environmentalemployer who is compatible with them? Which pro-environmental signal is hard-to-fake? From the tenet of signalling theory and from a knowledge-based view, this thesis responds to these emerging issues by researching into the insight of management of green organisational capacity and green recruitment to attract existing and future employees, which are happening now. The overall findings indicate a stabilized environmental movement which is comprised of green organisational processes in conformity with optimal heterogeneity of green organizational distinctiveness representing the organizational ecological value to sustain an organisational hard-to-fake character. A model of « Handicap » principle conveying the ethics of pro-environmental attraction and practical implications for defining, recruiting, detecting and selecting the right type of pro-environmental talents with a focus environmental orientation of the employing organisation are recommended.

Повний текст джерелаThe Green Supply Chain has become a global issue due to its negative effects on the ecological environment, the economy and general livelihoods. GSC is widening the conventional supply chain to incorporate practices aimed at reducing the environmental effect of a product during the whole cycle, such as green construction, cost savings, the removal of hazardous materials and the recycle and re-use of goods. This research aimed to examine the impact of GSC on the performance of organizations with a concentration on the Greater Accra Metropolitan Region. The analysis used a detailed cross-section design. A basic random sampling technique was also used for the survey of fifty (50) respondents. Data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The study finds that the environmental effect of GSC on organizations is also significant. Again it was discovered that GSC has an economic and operational effect on organizations, but not to a very significant degree. Finally, it was revealed that the organizations are taking GSC steps to minimize or reduce the detrimental impact SC has on the environment, the economy and the organization itself.

Повний текст джерелаABSTRACT Researchers have noted gender and racial differences regarding hazing practices within Greek-letter organizations (Parks et al., 2014). Black Greek-letter organizations focus on physical hazing practices, while their white counterparts focus on alcohol abuse and consumption (Kimbrough, 2003; Parks et al., 2014). As it pertains to gender, black Greek fraternities are more likely to participate in hazing activities, than black Greek sororities. This research has explored the perceptions of black Greek fraternity members and higher education administrators regarding anti-hazing statues and policies, hazing within black Greek-letter organizations (BGLOs), and its culture. It has been guided by the overarching research question: What are higher education administrators and black Greek fraternity members? knowledge levels and perceptions regarding anti-hazing laws and BGLO traditions and their effects on the BGF members? participation?

Повний текст джерелаStudies have shown that involvement in a student organization can improve the academic and psychosocial outcomes of African American male students (Harper, 2006b; Robertson & Mason, 2008; Williams & Justice, 2010). Further, Harper, Byars, and Jelke (2005) stated that African American fraternities and sororities (i.e., Black Greek-letter organizations [BGLOs]) are the primary venues by which African American students become involved on campus. This grounded theory study examined the relationship between membership in a BOLO and the overall college experiences of African American male college students at a Predominantly White Institution (PWI). Eleven themes were identified in the study indicating that membership had a positive impact on the college experiences of African American male college students at a PWI. The study also examined the perceptions of counselors and other college student personnel regarding their role in improving the academic and psychosocial outcomes of African American male college students. Participants indicated that their role is to provide academic and psychosocial support for these students; they offered strategies for PWIs to improve the persistence and success of these students. Implications for counseling, higher education, and Black Greek life are provided.

Повний текст джерелаIn this thesis, we explore the goals and requirements of green procurement in order to assess the Air Force's degree of success with incorporating the Defenses (DoD's) Green Procurement Program (GPP) into its procurement process. This thesis provides an outline of the federal policies and guidance regarding green procurement, including Executive Order 13514 (2009) and relevant parts of the Federal Acquisition Regulations. We examine the Air Force's progress towards a more environmentally friendly process, measured by the metrics set forth in the DoD GPP. To evaluate these metrics, we conducted an analysis to determine if the Air Force is implementing environmental considerations to the maximum extent practical. This analysis relied on the use of the Green Acquisition Gap Analysis (GAGA) model, which is a unique framework that we developed. The GAGA model fuses the personnel, platform, and protocol pillars of the Mandatory Pillars for Integrative Success (Yoder, 2010) framework with the Contract Management Process framework, which dissects the six segments of the contracting process: procurement planning, solicitation planning, the solicitation, source selection, contract administration, and contract closeout or termination (Rendon, 2007). Further, in order to document best practices for Air Force-wide dissemination, we identified the leading Air Force installations through our extensive research and collaboration with key leadership.

Повний текст джерелаCollege fraternities are routinely associated with alcohol use and hazing (e.g., Wechsler, Kuh, & Davenport, 1996; Allan & Madden, 2008). These outcomes can lead to troubling consequences for fraternity members, and other stakeholders (DeSantis, 2007; Syrett, 2009). The masculine norm climates perpetuated by fraternities may contribute to fraternity men’s alcohol use and hazing motivations (Kimmel, 2008; Syrett, 2009). However, not all fraternity members conform to hegemonic masculinity (Anderson, 2008; Harris & Harper, 2014). The masculine norm climates collectively espoused by fraternities may vary between chapters, and these differences may explain members’ alcohol use and endorsement of hazing rationales (DeSantis, 2007). In addition, organizational socialization tactics have been found to relate to the outcomes of newcomers (e.g., Ashforth & Saks, 1996), and these tactics may explain differences that exist across the population of chapters for the relationships among members’ conformity to masculine norms and their alcohol use or endorsement of hazing rationales. No prior study had utilized a large, multi-institutional sample to examine if fraternity members’ alcohol use or support of hazing rationales varied between fraternity chapters, or if the masculine norm climates promoted by chapters predict these outcomes. To address this gap, this study collected data from 2,678 undergraduates from a single college men’s social fraternity represented at 76 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. Utilizing a critical postmodern quantitative inquiry, the data were analyzed through descriptive analyses and hierarchical linear modeling (HLM). The findings indicate that fraternity members’ alcohol use and endorsement of hazing rationales varied between fraternity chapters. Chapter heterosexual presentation climate was positively related to a member’s alcohol use. Risk-taking, heterosexual-presentation and playboy climates were positively related to members’ endorsement of social dominance hazing rationale, whereas the violence climate perpetuated by a fraternity chapter was negatively related to this rationale. Risk-taking climate was positively associated with the endorsement of solidarity and instrumental education hazing rationales. Investiture socialization climate was found to not moderate relationships among individual masculine norms and hazing rationales

The field of Green IT has undergone many fluctuations and shifts over the years. From the promotion of its development to the formulation of product standard, Green IT is a field that is in a state of constant change. European Union proposed a framework for environmental directives (WEEE,RoHS,EuP,etc) that has withstood the test of time. This makes companies have to face the trend of the worldwide promotion in green products and the huge impact for the related industries. The majority of research in Green IT has focused on saving energy and reducing carbon. The research is still at an early stage in evaluating energy saving and carbon reduction, not to mention a paucity of literature on this subject. However, to date, there has been relatively little research conducted on Green IT. This paper will focus on the steps of Green IT for industrial. In this paper we present a conceptual framework for linking Green IT and energy saving and carbon reduction. In view of the preceding research purpose, major sets of research questions to be addressed in this study are as follows: 1. How to combine the companies' Green IT development with the government policies 2. For companies, how to save energy and reduce carbon to achieve the Green IT goal 3. Under the green atmosphere, how to start from green buildings to whole companies It is hoped that answering these questions will contribute to our understanding of the relationship between Green IT and energy saving and carbon reduction.
