Анотація:

Graduation thesis is an indispensible procedure for each undergraduate, which is crucial for successful graduation, employment, further study and even further development. However, due to most undergraduates’ ignorance of academic writing and the deficiency of current thesis writing course, thesis writing ability can hardly be enhanced and improved, accordingly, few good graduation theses can be produced among undergraduates. As a newly-launched major in recent a few years, translation major (BTI education, i.e. Bachelor of Translation and Interpretation) is also faced up with this problem. Eco-Translatology, a new theory combining ecology and translation studies, holds translation as adaptation and selection, which can also provide important enlightenment for thesis writing of translation majors. This paper, based on Eco-Translatology and current thesis writing course deficiency, aims to explore constructive strategies on how to give effective and efficient thesis writing course in hope of greatly improving thesis writing.

Анотація:

The article examines the procedure and issues of preparation, defence and assessment of graduation papers of students majoring in accounting at the Faculty of Economy of Vilnius College. A graduation paper – a generalization of all study results on which basis the author is awarded a professional bachelor’s degree – is the most important form of student’s independent work that discloses his/her preparedness for work. While preparing and defending a graduation paper, graduates have a possibility to demonstrate the knowledge acquired as well as practical skills. The graduation paper analyses theoretical and practical aspects of the formation and implementation of an accounting policy in a business company; provides conclusions and suggestions for future perspectives. After examining and analysing the preparation and assessment of graduate papers in the accounting study programme at the Faculty of Economics of Vilnius College, it may be claimed that the most popular topics of graduation papers in 2013 were as follows: preparation of a set of financial statements and analysis of indicators; accounting and analysis of fixed tangible assets; accounting and analysis of income. The defence of graduation papers is a public procedure and takes place in a sitting-meeting of a Qualifying Commission appointed by order of the Director of Vilnius College and is assessed in conformity with the procedure laid down in the methodological instructions for study works. Reviewers and the Qualifying Commission evaluated the majority of graduation papers as “excellent” and “good”. In terms of the competences achieved it may be claimed that 92 percent of all the graduation papers were evaluated at the highest (9-10 points) and average (7-8 points) level.

In order to improve the students’ graduation thesis quality, we must select optimal and suitable to guide different students. In this paper, we study the problem of selecting optimal tutor in the guidance of undergraduate graduation thesis, and present an optimal assignment model for tutor selection, and then use the Hungarian method to solve the assignment model. It provides effective way to the optimal allocation of tutor resources.

Анотація:

The aim of this research to estimate the factors that affect students graduation using bivariate probit regression. Bivariate probit regression is a statistical method that involves two response variables which are qualitative and the independent variables are qualitative, quantitative, or a combination of both. In bivariate probit regression model, the result obtained is the probability of the response variable. The result of this research are the factors that affect significantly for students graduation based on study period are majors, sex, and duration of the thesis, while the factors that significantly for students graduation based on GPA are the entry system, duration of the thesis and the number of parents’ dependents.

Topics included (a) admission standards such as graduate record exam scores and grade point averages; (b) start-up issues such as course requirements and computer programming skills; (c) M.S. attributes such as thesis length, years until graduation, and thesis versus nonthesis options; (d) Ph.D. procedures such as exam sequences and timing, thesis page length, workplace ethics and teamwork, and development of teaching skills; and (e) employment after graduation. This information could aid university departments in their future program planning.

Анотація:

Thesis is a prerequisite for graduation in all academic institutions. Higher Education institutions, such as Imam Bonjol Islamic State Institute requires its students to write a thesis in order to graduate. Students write their theses and they were examined before the board of examiners. However, students found it difficult to write ‘good’ theses that show academic honesty and high level of originality. This is a big issue in our institution, this article, therefore examines factors that reduce originality of students’ theses. Having analysed over 10 theses using content analysis method, the authors found that almost all theses contain issues that reduces the originality of the theses. Students frequently commit structural plagiarism, in which they tend to follow the structure of their colleagues’ theses, and only made minor changes. Other finding showed that in stating their research problem, students make a claim without appropriate justification. Issues of referencing and paraphrasing are two important issues that reduce qualities of students’ theses.

One of the demands of the students ' success in learning in College is having a positive attitude towards lecturers so that students are able to build positive interpersonal relationships and communicate effectively with his professors. The number of complaints against the attitude of the supervising lecturer whose dibimbingnya are mainly in terms of communicating makes the background in this research. This research aims to know interpersonal relationships of college students toward professors in the process guidance of thesis. This research was conducted with descriptive method quantitative approach through. The population of the research was all students majoring in Islamic religious high school of Tarbiyah (STAIN) Curup the academic year 2010/2011 who are on semester 8 and is in the process of completion of the thesis. The number of samples as many as 69 people. The data obtained via the question form. The data were analyzed with the help of the program SPSS version 16.0. The results showed that interpersonal relationships of college students toward professors in terms of attitudes towards students appreciate lecturer in process guidance with thesis score tend to be occupied by students on the criteria either i.e. 74.5%. Interpersonal relationships of college students toward professors in terms of loyalty and tolerance attitudes of students toward professors in the process of graduation thesis guidance with a score that tend to be assigned to students on criteria either i.e. 66.6%. Interpersonal relationships of college students toward professors in terms of openness towards students in the process of graduation thesis guidance lecturer with a score that tend to be assigned to students at 60.2% i.e. enough criteria. Interpersonal relationships of college students toward professors in terms of friendliness toward students in the process of graduation thesis guidance lecturer with a score that tend to be assigned to students in not a good criteria i.e. 50.7%. Thus, the overall total score that tend to be assigned to students at enough where the score obtained is 75.08%. From this it can be concluded that interpersonal relationships of college students toward professors in the process of graduation thesis guidance in Curup STAIN is in the category of pretty

Final project is an independent task that must be completed by final year undergraduate students as a graduation requirement. The process includes the preparation stage (proposal), implementation, thesis writing, and thesis defense. The purpose of this study is determine the symptoms of stress experienced by final year students, knowing the stress factors, and determine alternative stress management in writing their thesis. The method that used is non-probability sampling with a quota sampling technique. Total sample is 419 respondents. Descriptive and factor analysis are used for analytical tools. The results stated that IPB students felt stressed during the preparation of the thesis with physical symptoms that were felt easily tired and heart palpitations. The most contributing factor in student stress is the data analysis method. Alternative stress management for students is taking a short break, doing activities according to hobbies, setting a schedule for meetings with the supervisor, making graduation targets, and thinking positively.

Анотація:

This research proposes a decision support system in determining thesis exam graduation using AHP and TOPSIS method. The AHP method weighted the criteria to generate values for each criterion, in which the value of each criterion was used to obtain a ranking of some alternatives with TOPSIS. The criteria used for the assessment are 5 chapters (C1), neatness (C2), manners (C3), material delivery (C4) and material mastery (C5). Merging the AHP and TOPSIS methods can optimize the weighting of criteria values that affect the more objective alternative ranking results. The resulting Hamming distance is 96.2% and the Euclidean distance is 0.8096 for 95 students.

Based on researcher’s observation on PAI undergraduate student’s thesis that used quatitative research method, there are many statistical calculation mistakes. Those mistakes happened in many students’thesis. Students’ habit who prefer copying the stage of statistics computation on he previous thesis than studying statistics book. In this research, it is mapped statistics mistakes in PAI students’ thesis using quantitative research in XXV until XXX graduation period. In six recent graduation period, PAI FITK IAIN Surakarta have passed 607 students. The result of this research is that generally there are two mistakes in statistics, as follows. One, the lack of understanding on statistics concept covering: (a) mistake in making frequency distribution as part of the stage of describing data, (b) mistake in processing the result of Chi Quadrate as normality test, (c) unit analysis that is used up till now is not sufficient, (d) mistake in choosing statistics analysis tool, (e) the existence of outlier and influential observation in data impact significnstly the result of correlation analysis and linie regression analysis. Two, the urgency of using calculation tool in the form of statistics program consisting of mistake in writing statistics formula and mistake in calculation process.Keywords: Quantitative Research, Thesis

Data of alumni from 2012 to 2015 found that the average percentage of students graduating on time was 22%. The comparison between the number of students who graduate on time and new students who enter each year is not comparable, therefore a study is needed to find out the factors that affect student graduation and to prediction of the graduation period of the student through data mining research using the C4.5 algorithm. The data tested was student alumni data from 2012 to 2015. The instruments studied include study period, academic year, GPA, corner focus, gender, intensity of work during college, type of thesis, intensity of campus internal organization, intensity of external organization of campus, UKT group, scholarship status, pre-college education, hobby intensity, intensity of game play, academic competition participation status, non-academic competition participation status, and availability of facilities and infrastructure. The best test results using percentage-split 75% obtained 83.33% accuracy as well as the rules contained in the decision tree.

We took students to a mine in Zhang Village, located in the middle energy area of Hebei Province, and realized some problems existing in the practice of mining engineering. Stephen Sondheim composed a three-movement piano sonata for his thesis in music at Williams College and submitted the two outer movements upon graduation. Sondheim has since been unwilling to publish or disseminate the work, and a college stipulation has prevented reproduction of the thesis. The sonata shows the influences on Sondheim's emerging musical style – predominantly Ravel, Rachmaninov (influences previously established by scholars), Prokofiev and Hindemith (influences less well established) – and demonstrates that his compositional language was significantly developed by the time of his graduation. Similarities abound between the sonata and the mature musicals of the 1970s and beyond. In addition to providing examples from the completed movements – a feat made possible by Sondheim's decision to grant limited permission to reproduce the sonata – the article examines a two-page sketch for the second movement, a manuscript that had remained in Sondheim's sole possession until October 2000.

The results of the survey carried out in Banco de Teses e Dissertações da Coordenação da CAPES (Thesis and Dissertation Bank of CAPES Coordination) on the management of Brazilian universities after the Reuni are presented, with the objective of verifying an approach to the subject and its results. To do so, 59 papers were selected, only 22 (3 theses and 19 dissertations) deal with a study on the results of the Reuni Program. It is verified that management is dealt with in just 2 works, and the others are related to planning and implementation of Reuni in a particular institution, teaching, program financing, and expansion of under graduation, organizational socialization, access, efficiency assessment, curricular restructuring and student assistance. It is concluded that management is a secondary topic on thesis and dissertations and that the approaches turn to the effects of the foreseen model, sometimes trying to reach the goal of the Program to expand opportunities to access, sometimes administration of Academic units.

Анотація:

Recently, the State Council has set higher standards for the graduation thesis of undergraduates. Most undergraduate colleges and universities have issued their own policies in which private colleges and universities have paid more attention to this issue in which several local experts have conducted many research on the course of academic thesis writing. The Inner Mongolia Honder College of Arts and Sciences is used as an example in this article. Using the questionnaire survey and interview method, the current situation of the academic thesis writing course in private colleges is analyzed and its reform in private colleges and universities is explored in hope to provide some reference for future research.

Анотація:

The thesis is student study report which is accomplished as a requirement of graduation for Master program. Selecting study’s topic and advisors influence implementation of the study. Therefore, study’s topic is able to improve academic institution quality, however a large number of thesis documents on the repository cause difficulty to get information related to advisor’s expertness and the frequent or rare topic is former studied. Association rule mining can be used to mine information on the related item. This study aims to analyze advising patterns system in Master program on Agriculture based on supervisors and their topic research on metadata thesis of IPB repository and text documents of summary using data mining approach. The datas were collected from the repository of Bogor Agricultural University website and processed using R language programming. Pattern result of the reseach were that the most popular association on supervisor was occurred at support value of 0.00793 or equivalent to 7 theses and four popular topics were Botanical insecticide, Global warming, Upland Rice, and Land Use Change. The analysis result could be useful information to be reference or suggest future research or appropriate supervisor among agricultural.

In what area, specifically, were your post graduation studies concentrated? Why did you choose this area? The topic of my Ph.D. thesis was conceived and written completely on my own, I chose a very unusual combination of linguistics, statistics (power-law distributions) and statistical physics. This was viewed as strange but I thought was far more interesting than the conventional topics that my teachers mentioned as possibilities. The thesis was very badly written, but much of its content has survived and is now viewed as "classical".

Data mining by applying the cluster model can use the K-Means concept as a clustering method. K -Means model application can be used to classify data such as the title of graduation students based on the amount of load studies, GPA, and graduation thesis. This research was conducted to find out the results of the use of the concept of K-Means on the determination of student graduation in order to get the results in the form of an analysis of the modeling. The problem of this research is to seek to model the concept of K-Means on the determination of graduation Students using Student Data of STMIK Palangkaraya. K-Means algorithm is used through three stages: initialization , the first iteration and the second iteration. The results of the modeling is the use of K-Means algorithm to determine student graduation to obtain analysis of the results in the form of 70 % could determine the appropriate graduation of 10 data were used as a sample. Modeling using the K-Means is one of the concepts to be able to classify the data, so the use of K-Means algorithm can be a reference for the development of a modeling study, especially regarding data mining.

Анотація:

Thesis is a graduation requirement for students, of course it will cause some students to feel anxious at the moment working on. The anxiety could arise because of some things that are considered threatened. Besides anxiety can also arise due to low confidence in the ability of self or self-efficacy. This study was conducted to examine the correlation between self-efficacy with the anxiety of students who are working on the thesis. The scale used in this study is the scale of self-efficacy and anxiety scales. The subjects used in this research were 161 students from the Universitas Ibrahimy who was working on a thesis. The results showed a negative relationship between self-efficacy with anxiety in students who are working on the thesis with the calculated product moment correlation (r = -0.606, p = 0.000, p <0.01).

Improving the academic information literacy of overseas postgraduate students studying in China is an important part of the postgraduate education. It has been noticed that the review section has become the bottleneck of the quality of both graduate degree theses and dissertations. The use of rich and complicated information sources to conduct an efficient, accurate and comprehensive literature review of the dissertation/thesis has become an urgent problem to be solved. According to the questionnaires, for the information quality and the review writing ability of graduate students, a total of 123 Ph.D. and Master’s Degree students studying at the Harbin Engineering University were randomly selected as research samples, and several solutions were proposed for the problems arising from the investigation results.

The thesis is one of the graduation requirements that students must take to obtain a bachelor's degree. Each student informatics study program who will carry out the Thesis will do several processes, including the process of registration of titles, guidance, registration of Thesis seminars, Examination and judiciary sessions. The thesis administration process is still running manually, where at the time of title registration, students must fill in the form of thesis title. After that, students will wait for the announcement to find out their supervisor as well as the registration of the Thesis Seminar, the examination, and the Judiciary sessions. Students must come directly to the office with the registration requirements. The process requires a long time so that thesis administration services become less effective. Therefore a website-based Thesis Information System was built which aims to facilitate the thesis administration process of Informatics study programs. Based on black box testing, this system was declared to have run well while testing using the MOS method showed that 95.34% of informatics student respondents, 99.33% of non-informatics student respondents, and 100% of lecturers and admin respondents agreed. Therefore this system is suitable for use. Keywords: Thesis, website-based, black box, MOS.

Background: University based research is an integral part of many prestigious medical schools worldwide. The benefits of student-conducted research have long been highlighted in the literature. This article aims to identify the insights of medical students concerning research training, including perceived hurdles in the way of conducting research, and the utility of a research thesis in acquiring a Doctor of Medicine degree. Methods: A total of 808 medical students at Jordan University of Science and Technology were selected by random sampling with a confidence level of 95%. A survey was constructed by a group of students through literature review and group discussions. The survey utilized polar and Likert scale questions to collect data from the students. Statistical inferences were then obtained through analysis of means and one sample t-test of the hypothesis. Results: A total of 687 students filled out the survey (85%). Analysis shows that respondents have a strong and positive attitude towards research. The respondents with past research experience constituted 14.3% of those surveyed. Those respondents identified the barriers faced by them during their experience. The students showed high degree of agreement that a research thesis should be a prerequisite for graduation with statistical significance of p-value ≤0.05. Conclusion: Modifying the curriculum to include research methodology is recommended, and developing it to incorporate a thesis as a requirement for graduation may be advised upon further review.

The Department of Informatics at STMIK Pelita Nusantara is one of the departments at private universities that focuses on the science of information technology. Thesis problems in this department must also be resolved immediately, one of which is a system that utilizes information technology. It is difficult for students to determine the choice of thesis topic to be prepared as a graduation requirement. There are 7 criteria used, namely: Academic Value, Historical Project, Research Activeness, Training, Interests, Value of Practice and Research Place. Research data obtained from STMIK Pelita Nusantara applied the SAW (Simple Additive Weighting) method using Visual Basic Net 2010 with Mysql Database. From the ranking it shows that the highest result is alternative A1 where in this example the thesis topic chosen is Expert System.

One of the final requirements in academic education for students is to conduct scientific research as outlined in the form of a final thesis. The large number of students taking research courses, makes the Accounting Study Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Mercu Buana University difficult to monitor the implementation of the thesis in every semester. With this problem, the researcher aims to build an information system to monitor the thesis that can record all the processes from the beginning of choosing the topic, taking the thesis exam and the graduation done by students. The urgent need for the development of a thesis monitoring information system is the reason for choosing a method of developing Rapid Application Development (RAD), so that the wishes of the Head of Accounting Department of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Mercu Buana University can be fulfilled immediately. The RAD stage that has been carried out is the requirement gathering stage which covers the needs of the operational environment, functional requirements, information needs, and interface requirements. The design phase consists of conceptual schema design, database design and interface design. The result of this research is a thesis monitoring system which has been tested and applied to the Accounting Study Program at Mercu Buana University. This system helps for both students in thesis consultation and the head of accounting in monitoring thesis students effectively and efficiently.

The problem of mass plagiarism in scientific publications and qualification research papers is fairly acute in today’s Russia. Incorrect borrowings and plagiarism have extended not only to scientific articles and dissertations, but also to students’ courseworks and graduation research papers and diploma thesis. The author has recently faced with a case of 100% plagiarism of his article published in the Russian journal and in this paper describes the possible practical steps to protect the author’s rights. In addition, the paper analyzes the problems of scientific and publication ethics in the conditions of rapid development of information and communication technologies, estimates factors of the paid publications market development in Russia. The author points to the information asymmetry leading to various forms of manipulation in academic sphere including relations between laypersons and professional plagiarists.

The study aims to explore postgraduate research students expectations from their thesis supervisors in online postgraduate programs. Particularly it aimed to study their perceptions of the role of thesis supervisor in their postgraduate research work. The study followed survey research design. The population comprised 1118 Postgraduate (MS) students enrolled in nine programs at post-graduation level in spring 2018. Using stratified random sampling technique, a total of 150 postgraduate research students were selected from five programs (MS Computer science, M Phil Educational Leadership and Management, MS Business Administration, MS Mathematics and MS Zoology of four faculties of Virtual University of Pakistan. Data were collected through researcher made scale Expectations of Research Students (ERS) having five subscales and 28 items. Mean, Standard Deviation and ANOVA were applied for obtaining results. Findings suggested that well documented and communicated thesis supervision regulations and including face-to-face interactions with online supervision could make some improvements to the outcomes of online supervision.

Currently, many graduate students who can’t be absorbed by the world of work or labor market because of poor quality. It is caused by several factors such as students as learners, lecturer as a teacher, and the campus as a connector between the institution or any of its faculty and students to students and faculty facilities. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of student discipline in implementing the guidance of the thesis as well as to determine the influence of PO coach and PO testers on the level of quality of graduation. This study uses a quantitative approach with descriptive correlational survey method. The sample collection technique is based on the calculation formula Slovin as many as 61 people. Data was collected using questionnaires and documentation. Analyzed using descriptive statistics and statistical analysis iferensial. Data processing using SPSS. Results of the study showed that the better the level of completion of Objective Assessment Supervisor, the better the quality level graduation because the value received will better the automatic IPK and also rose. However, the better the level of completion of Objective Assessment Examiners, will not affect the level of quality of the graduation.
