Recent advances in the determination of crystal structures and studies of optical properties of gold nanoclusters in the size range from tens to hundreds of gold atoms have started to reveal the grand evolution from gold complexes to nanoclusters and further to plasmonic nanoparticles. However, a detailed comparison of their photophysical properties is still lacking. Here, we compared the excited state behaviors of gold complexes, nanolcusters, and plasmonic nanoparticles, as well as small organic molecules by choosing four typical examples including the Au10 complex, Au25 nanocluster (1 nm metal core), 13 diameter Au nanoparticles, and Rhodamine B. To compare their photophysical behaviors, we performed steady-state absorption, photoluminescence, and femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopic measurements. It was found that gold nanoclusters behave somewhat like small molecules, showing both rapid internal conversion (<1 ps) and long-lived excited state lifetime (about 100 ns). Unlike the nanocluster form in which metal–metal transitions dominate, gold complexes showed significant charge transfer between metal atoms and surface ligands. Plasmonic gold nanoparticles, on the other hand, had electrons being heated and cooled (~100 ps time scale) after photo-excitation, and the relaxation was dominated by electron–electron scattering, electron–phonon coupling, and energy dissipation. In both nanoclusters and plasmonic nanoparticles, one can observe coherent oscillations of the metal core, but with different fundamental origins. Overall, this work provides some benchmarking features for organic dye molecules, organometallic complexes, metal nanoclusters, and plasmonic nanoparticles.

N-Heterocyclic carbenes have found many applications in modern metal catalysis, due to the formation of stable metal complexes, and organocatalysis. Among a myriad of N-heterocyclic carbene metal complexes, gold complexes have gained a lot of attention due to their unique propensity for the activation of carbon-carbon multiple bonds, allowing many useful transformations of alkynes, allenes, and alkenes, inaccessible by other metal complexes. The present review summarizes synthetic efforts towards the preparation of chiral N-heterocyclic gold(I) complexes exhibiting C2 and C1 symmetry, as well as their applications in enantioselective catalysis. Finally, the emerging area of rare gold(III) complexes and their preliminary usage in asymmetric catalysis is also presented.

The tris(pyrazolyl)borate [HB(3,5-(CF3)2Pz)3]− prepared using highly fluorinated 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)pyrazole and BH4− is an excellent supporting ligand for the stabilization of a number of rare organometallic complexes of coinage metals. For example, it has enabled the isolation of Cu(I), Ag(I), and Au(I) complexes of CO and ethylene as crystalline solids. Syntheses, spectroscopic and structural features, and properties of [HB(3,5-(CF3)2Pz)3]ML (M = Cu, Ag, Au; L = CO, C2H4) are the main focus of this discussion. Several metal adducts based on the tris(triazolyl)borate [HB(3,5-(CF3)2Tz)3]− supporting ligand as well as the cationic, coinage metal multi-alkene complexes containing the [SbF6]− counterion are also discussed.

Complexes of the ligand Fcterpy (Fcterpy = 4′-ferrocenyl-2,2′:6′,2′-terpyridine) with group 11 metals display different coordination modes. The reaction with complexes [Cu(NO3)(PPh3)2] or [M(OTf)(PR3)] (OTf = trifluoromethyl sulphonate) gives the species [M(Fcterpy)(PR3)]X (M = Cu, X = PF6, PR3 = PPh3 (1); M = Ag, X = OTf, PR3 = PPh3 (2), PPh2Me (3); M = Au, X = OTf, PR3 = PPh3 (4)) in which the ligand is coordinated as a tridentate chelate to the metal. Treatment with [Cu(NCMe)4]PF6 or Ag(OTf) in 1:1 molar ratio gives the dinuclear complexes [M2(Fcterpy)2]X2 (M = Cu (5), Ag (6)), in which the ligand is tetradentate because the central pyridine group is bonded to two metals. The reaction with the gold(I) complex [Au(C6F5)(tht)] (tht = tetrahydrothiophene) leads to the first example of a terpyridine ligand bonded to three metal atoms, [Au3(C6F5)3(Fcterpy)] (7); in the product of the corresponding reaction with the gold(III) derivative [Au(C6F5)3(OEt2)] to give [Au(C6F5)3(Fcterpy)] (8), the ligand is monodentate, which is also unusual for a terpyridine ligand.Key words: copper, silver, gold, terpyridine, ferrocene derivatives

Gold complexes have been traditionally employed in medicine, and currently, some gold(I) complexes, such as auranofin, are clinically used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. In the last decades, both gold(I) and gold(III) complexes with different types of ligands have gained considerable attention as potential antitumor agents, showing superior activity both in vitro and in vivo to some of the clinically used agents. The present review article summarizes the results achieved in the field of synthesis and evaluation of gold complexes with amino acids and peptides moieties for their cytotoxicity. The first section provides an overview of the gold(I) complexes with amino acids and peptides, which have shown antiproliferative activity, while the second part is focused on the activity of gold(III) complexes with these ligands. A systematic summary of the results achieved in the field of gold(I/III) complexes with amino acids and peptides could contribute to the future development of metal complexes with these biocompatible ligands as promising antitumor agents.

In this thesis, ten different ligands were designed and synthesized in such a way as to provide metal containing SAMs. The metal binding sites of these ligands are derivatives of the tripodal ligand tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (TPA) and the tridentate amine bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (BPA), which have good molecular recognition properties in solution. As interface separating the electrode from the metal binding site and gold anchor group we have chosen a thiophenyl, thioethyl and thioctic acid groups. Electrochemical studies with [Fe(CN)6]3-/4- as redox probe in solution were carried out on SAMs of the TPA thioctic acid derivative L4  and its complexes Cu-L4, Zn-L4 and Fe-L4. Monolayers containing redox active Cu(II/I) ions accelerated the electron-transfer reaction (kapp = 2.78 x 10-2 cm/s) more than those containing Zn(II) (kapp = 1.51 x 10-4 cm/s) and Fe(II) (kapp = 1.40 x 10-3 cm/s) ions. This is consistent with a mechanism for electron-transfer in which the Cu ions exit in different coordination environments and with different redox potentials, and are rapidly undergoing interconversion. The ability of this system to facilitate the electron-transfer process to the redox probe was used to develop a new cyanide sensor. Addition of cyanide ions increases the blocking behaviour of the SAM, suggesting the elimination of Cu from the SAM to form [Cu(CN)n](n-1)- complexes. The cyanide detection limit was found to be 1 nM. Electrodes modified with the binucleating ligand 2,6-bis[bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amino-methyl]phenol thioctic acid derivative (bearing two BPA arms) L7 were also investigated. Metal containing SAMs can influence the electron-transfer process through the SAM to a solution containing a redox probe. This property can be used to develop new anion sensors in aqueous system.

The development of procedures for the synthesis of valuable organic molecules constitutes an important part of chemistry. The goal of improving the efficiency of existing methodologies can be fulfilled by use of metal catalysts. Recent developments in the field of homogeneous gold catalysis have contributed to these efforts and continued investigations assure future innovations. Chapter 1 summarises the properties of gold and ligand-supported gold(I) complexes and demonstrates how a detailed understanding of its reactivity and possible bonding interactions with various substrates facilitates the development of well-defined catalytic systems. Particular attention is given to N-heterocyclic carbenes, highly tunable ligands that stabilise a wide range of different transition metal complexes. Three chapters describe syntheses and studies of known and new complexes. Chapter 2 discusses expedient syntheses of key NHC-gold(I) complexes and catalysts. Chapter 3 constitutes studies to the behaviour of the commonly used tetrafluoroborate counterion in a particular IPrCl -gold(I) complex. Chapter 4 de- scribes the synthesis of a range of IPr-gold(I) carbanion complexes from the widely studied IPr-gold(I) hydroxide synthon, the study of their properties and exploration of their reactivity. Catalytic applications in transformations of alkynes and alcohols are described in the last three chapters. Chapter 5 details the development of efficient NHC-gold(I)-catalysed procedures for the synthesis of vinyl ethers through addition reactions of aliphatic and benzylic alcohols to alkynes. Benzylic alcohols were found to undergo gold-catalysed dehydration under specific conditions and Chapter 6 discloses the NHC-gold(I)-catalysed dehydrative formation of ethers from phenols and benzylic alcohols. Appendix A describes preliminary explorations to the complimentary use of Brønsted acidic compounds as catalysts for the formation of products with new C – C bonds from benzylic alcohols and phenols.

Data on geology of the Oleninskoe deposit, and results of mineralogical and geochemical investigations of ores and altered rocks are presented. Mineralization is connected with granite porphyry sills, an end member of gabbrodiorite-diorite-granodiorite complex of minor intrusions. The main alteration processes are diopsidization and biotitization, formation of quartz-muscovite-albite, quartz-aresenopyrite-tourmaline, and quartz metasomatic rocks. More than 50 ore minerals (sulfides, sulfosalts, tellurides, and native metals) were identified in the ore, including 20 minerals of silver and gold. Mineral associations in the ore and sequence of mineral formation are defined. Five generations of gold-silver alloys are identified, its composition covers spectrum from native silver to high-grade gold. Mineralized fluids in the deposit are of high salinity (sodium and calcium chlorides), and rich in As, Sb, Pb, Cu, Zn, and Ag. The Oleninskoe deposit is classified as an epithermal metamorphosed gold deposit.The book is of interest for specialists in economic geology, mineralogy and geochemistry of ore deposits.

Memory clinics were first developed in the 1970s and 1980s to help facilitate research. More recently they have evolved into Memory Services increasingly focussing on delivering early diagnosis and intervention for people with dementia and their carers. Compared with traditional community mental health services their focus is no early diagnosis in itself rather than the management of complex problems in dementia. The increasing awareness of dementia, and the extent of the health and social care challenge presented by dementia, has led to the development many more memory services and this development has been encouraged by different governments around the world. There is good evidence for the clinical and cost effectiveness of early diagnosis and intervention of dementia and memory services aim to achieve this. This chapter considers who memory services are for and what they should aim to achieve. It reviews the evidence base and discusses “what good looks like” for memory services and considers the need to understand the specific problem that such services are designed to address. A good memory service makes the diagnosis well, explains the diagnosis well and provides the immediate care, support and treatment that is needed by the person with dementia and their carers. Knowledge is power for people with dementia their carers.

This book takes the reader from the very basics of III-V semiconductors (some preparation in quantum mechanics and electromagnetism is helpful) and shows how seemingly obscure results such as detailed forms of the Hamiltonian, optical transition strengths, and recombination mechanisms follow. The reader does not need to consult other references to fully understand the material, although a few handpicked sources are listed for those who would like to deepen their knowledge further. Connections to the properties of novel materials such as graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides are pointed out, to help prepare the reader for contributing at the forefront of research. The book also supplies a complete, up-to-date database of the band parameters that enter into the calculations, along with tables of optical constants and interpolation schemes for alloys. From these foundations, the book goes on to derive the characteristics of photonic semiconductor devices (with a focus on the mid-infrared) using the same principles of building all concepts from the ground up, explaining all derivations in detail, giving quantitative examples, and laying out dimensional arguments whenever they can help the reader’s understanding. A substantial fraction of the material in this book has not appeared in print anywhere else, including journal publications.

Moral systems, like normative systems more broadly, involve complex mental representations. Rational Rules offers an account of the acquisition of key aspects of normative systems in terms of general-purpose rational learning procedures. In particular, it offers statistical learning accounts of: (1) how people come to think that a rule is act-based, that is, the rule prohibits producing certain consequences but not allowing such consequences to occur or persist; (2) how people come to expect that a new rule will also be act-based; (3) how people come to believe a principle of liberty, according to which whatever is not expressly prohibited is permitted; and (4) how people come to think that some normative claims hold universally while others hold only relative to some group. This provides an empiricist theory of a key part of moral acquisition, since the learning procedures are domain general. It also entails that crucial parts of our moral system enjoy rational credentials since the learning procedures are forms of rational inference. There is another sense in which rules can be rational—they can be effective for achieving our ends, given our ecological settings. Rational Rules argues that at least some central components of our moral systems are indeed ecologically rational: they are good at helping us attain common goals. In addition, the book argues that a basic form of rule representation brings motivation along automatically. Thus, part of the explanation for why we follow moral rules is that we are built to follow rules quite generally.

An experienced dietician and chef work closely with patients, families and staff to ensure dietary needs and meal preferences are managed to support good mental and physical health. The multidisciplinary team at the Walker Unit have experience managing difficult and complex eating behaviours that can present along with severe mental illness. These include restrictive and avoidant eating behaviours, overeating and binge eating, compensatory behaviours following eating, poor eating routines, increased appetite and cardiometabolic side effects of some treatments. The Walker Unit team recognise that these complex eating behaviours may require management from different and often creative angles which require the skillset of a multidisciplinary team.

Thermal decomposition from the vapor phase allows high quality metal to be produced. A comparison of the gold complex utilized and the overall rates of deposition are highlighted; the presence of fluorine substituents in the complex causes an increase in the complex vapor pressure and in the observed rates of gold deposition.

Abstract. Dry processes represent promising approaches in forming technology to improve environmental aspects and human health by avoiding harmful substances and additives of conventional lubricants. Among many different approaches for dry forming investigated within the priority program SPP 1676, this paper addresses the use of volatile media as lubricants such as CO2 or N2. These volatile media are introduced directly into the interstice between sheet metal and tool surface via microinjectors. Indeed, this does not contradict the principle dry forming approach, as dry forming is defined as a process in which no residues are left on the surfaces [1]. This is ensured by the complete evaporation of the volatile media. The general feasibility of this novel tribological system has already been demonstrated in previous research work. However, despite good tribological results, the manufacturing costs of the required tool inserts and the media consumption per component are not yet economically competitive with conventional tribological systems. Therefore, this paper focuses on new designs of dry deep-drawing tools utilising volatile lubricants, considering the economics of different manufacturing processes.

Abstract. We explore stable assembly of gold NPs in single step process by introducing a simple chemical synthesis in which pH changed gold precursor is added to dimethylformamide solution at RT. The redox chemistry of N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) has been effectively utilized in the formation of surfactant free, small chain metal NPs networks (plasmonic oligomers) via molecular dipolar coupling. Kinetic absorption / TEM images illustrate gold nanocrystals formation, their inter-particle coupling as a function of pH as well as with DMF-Water ratio. Sub-nano gap inter-particle coupling b/w spherical/anisotropic Au NPs is seen through arising of new LSPR hump in NIR region. 1-D organized gold nanocrystals are formed when pH modified metal precursor is added to refluxed (80 0C) DMF: Water mixture. The inter-particle coupling provides unique strategy can promote complex sub-wavelength optical waveguides and nanophotonic devices.

This paper reports some results for an on-going program in wafer-level MEMS package Institute of Microsystems at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The final goal was to come up with a method usable for various types of MEMS devices in wafer level so that the low cost and high reliability can be achieved at the same time. In this particular paper, three closed-loop microheaters of 5μm, 7μm and 9μm width were designed. By reactive ion sputtering technique, two classes of samples are presented. The first one was first co-sputtered with Ni/Cr and then sputtered with Au metal as heating with Ni/Cr and then sputtered with Au metal as heating material, the second one was sputtered with Cr, Sn and Au respectively as heating material. The bonding of the former sample based on the Ni/Cr and Au heating material failed. The eutectic bonding experiment of the later sample based on the Cr, Sn and Au heating material by global heating method was completed in annealing oven at temperature of about 400°C for 20 minutes and by local heating method was applyed current of 0.8 A into the microheater. The SEM testing result showed the eutectic bonding of Au-Sn by global heating was successful. More results will be reported during the conference presentation.

The East Kazakhstan territory is the unique geologic province where a number of large-scale non-ferrous and gold deposits are concentrated [1]. Gold base metals (gold-containing) type is represented by gold containing sulphide complex deposits. It is characterized by many large-scale commercial deposits of copper, lead and zinc where gold as well as silver, cadmium, platinum, selenium and other elements are the associate component of copper-sulphide and sulphide complex deposits [2]. There are following ore types are distinguished: gold-listvenite type occurs in the Irtysh zone (Maraliha deposit); the gold-sulphide vein-disseminated type associated with island-arc, volcanogenic-carbonate-terrigenous formation С1v2-3 (Suzdalskoye, Baibura, Mirazh, Zhaima); gold-quartzite type is characterized by gold-quartzite-vein deposits in West Kalba zone (Kuludzhun, Sentash, Kazan-Chunkur and others); gold-arsenic-carbon-bearing type is presented by large, middle and small deposits of Bakyrchik’s group (Bakyrchik, Bolshevik, Gluboky Log and others). Last one is formed on middle-Hercynian collision ore-bearing level (С2-С3) [3]. Multiple-stage concentration of gold contributed to formation of very large deposits. Gold content ranges from is 0.2 to 60 g/t, average is 8-9 g/t. Considerable part of gold is found in micro- and nanoparticles, nanotubes containing Au, Ag, Pt, Pd, W, Mo, Sn, Y, Yb, Ta and other elements [

Some recent results obtained using three quite different experimental approaches to fast in-situ surface metallization are presented. One of the goals is to make high density interconnects for multichip modules with metal contact width, height and pitch respectively of the order of 10, 5 and 25 μm. Direct writing speeds should be in excess of 1 cm/s. The first approach tried is to push classical pyrolytic laser chemical vapor deposition of copper from its bis-hexafluoroacetylacetonate Cu(hfa)2 to its limits. This is done by increasing the Cu(hfa)2 vapor pressure and by seeding the transparent surface of our substrate with a thin layer of a strongly light-absorbing substance. Speeds in the order of a few mm/s have already been obtained with good electrical properties and adhesion. The second approach tested implies metallization by thermal in-situ decomposition of a metal complex layer on a surface with a laser beam. The precursors used in this work are metal cluster coordination complexes, in particular au55(pɸ3)12c16 (ɸ stands for phenyl group -C6H5). Such molecules have a high metal content and advantageous thermal decomposition properties which enable writing speeds in excess of 1 cm/s while maintaining acceptable electrical properties of the metal lines. Finally, in a third approach, the fast in-situ step is limited to deposition of a thin metal line on the surface. These lines of only a few Å height are then "developed" in a second step to much high (of the order of one μm) and better conducting metal lines. This second step may be relatively slow, as many devices which have been patterned on their surface with the thin metal "prenucleation" lines can subsequently be developed simultaneously in a parallel processing step. An example of this approach is surface seeding using metals like Pt, W or Ir, followed by development by either selective low pressure CVD of copper from Cu(hfa)2, selective decomposition of a copper formate solid surface film, or selective electroless deposition from a copper bath. Possibilities of processing with much higher resolution using focussed charged particle beams are also briefly discussed.

The nickel(II) porphyrins have been well suited for an ideal system for investigating electronic decay, axial ligand photodissociation and photoassociation dynamics.1Of great significance in governing photophysics of the four- and six-coordinate nickel(II) complexes is the presence of a low-lying metal excited (dz2,dx2−y2) state having ~250 ps lifetme below porphyrin ring (π,π*) states.1 The (d,d) excited state shows characteristic sharply featured absorption difference spectra, compared to the broader featured more diffuse spectra of the ring (π,π*) and metal⇔ring charge transfer excited states. This favorable properties of the nickel(II) complexes provide a good opportunity for examining the deactivation dynamics in the porphyrin and its interaction with environment that may accompany a transition from an electronic excited state of the macrocycle to an electronic excited state of the metal.

Modern assembly lines for mass production need to fulfill several important criteria. One of them is to produce products with high geometrical quality (small geometric variation). For sheet metal assemblies, focused on in this paper, it is a very complex process to achieve good geometrical quality due to the large number of assembly steps and the geometrical variation (tolerances) of the incoming parts. One “golden rule” for sheet metal assembly lines is to always reuse fixturing points (locators) throughout the whole assembly line to minimize the geometrical variation and also the complexity of root cause analysis. A new method to measure the complexity in an assembly line has been developed and also implemented in a commercial software for Computer Aided Tolerancing. This new tool not only demonstrates the “golden rule” but could also be used to ensure minimum geometrical complexity in assembly lines to ensure controlled production and high quality products.

Abstract Additive friction stir deposition is an emerging solid-state additive manufacturing technology that has shown promise for bulk fabrication of metals and metal-matrix composites. Here, we perform a preliminary investigation into the influence of tool geometries on the particle distribution and matrix-particle coherence of SiC in the matrix of Aluminum Alloy 6061 and commercially pure Copper. Two tool geometries have been used: (1) a simple, featureless tool and (2) a complex geometry tool with four surface protrusions. For the simple tool geometry, the Al-SiC is observed to have less uniform bulk distribution of the reinforcement phase, resulting in regions of highly concentrated SiC reinforcement (up to 69 area%). The Cu-SiC sample produced with the simple geometry tool has a homogeneous distribution. The samples produced with the complex geometry tool show more uniform distribution of SiC reinforcement throughout the bulk of the deposit with local reinforcement concentrations reaching up to 42 area% and 28 area% for the Al and Cu matrix, respectively. All tool geometries create samples with good interfaces that have continuous contact between the particle and matrix phases, even including particles with sharp angles and non-spherical surfaces. Further optimization of tool geometries and processing conditions can lead to improved control of the reinforcement phase distribution and enable design of metal-matrix composites with tailored site-specific properties.

The centrifugal casting is a classical manufacturing method and it has been widely studied. However, when it comes to manufacture thin walled lattice materials with complex three-dimensional meso-structures, a multiscale flow-fill analysis may be needed for macro-filling at the sprue system and micro-filling at lattice structures. On the micro-filing analysis for a thin walled lattice structure, the surface tension of molten metal appears to be an important factor. On the other hand, flow inertia may affect the flow-filling process more than the surface tension of molten metal does. Our hypothesis is that there exist a range of ratios of cell wall thickness to length that are primarily affected by surface tension or density. From comparison with two different molten metals — aluminum and copper alloys, we can estimate the characteristic of flow, which will be of benefit when designing lattice structures and selecting materials for the manufacturing process. The objective of this study is to test the hypothesis by constructing an analytical model on flow filling of molten metals (aluminum alloy and copper alloy) associated with manufacturing lattice structures. The Naiver-Stokes equation with surface tension is considered for modeling of the flow of molten metal along the micro-channel of lattice structures and is numerically implemented with MATLAB. Temperature dependent properties of the liquid metals; e.g., density, viscosity, and conductivity, are considered for building the analytical model. Numerical simulations with a commercial code, ANSYS are conducted using a user defined function. Experimental validation is followed to manufacture a cubic truss lattice structure with a varying wall thickness; 0.5–1mm. Two molten metals — aluminum alloy and copper alloy are used for filling the mold at the centrifugal casting system. The mold is prepared by removing sacrificial lattice patterns made by a polyjet 3D printer. The preliminary result shows that the final lattice structures with an aluminum alloy through the 3D printing of sacrificial pattern followed by centrifugal casting have relatively good flow filling property at thin wall thickness (∼0.5mm) due to low surface tension of aluminum alloy. On the other hand, the high surface tension of a copper alloy prevents flow-fill to micro-channel mold cavity, resulting in early solidification. The indirect additive manufacturing based casting shows an excellent surface quality, which can be used for manufacturing cellular structures. A coupled flow and heat transfer of molten metal successfully simulate flow-fill and solidification and is compared with the experiment. Faster filling-time and faster solidification for the temperature-dependent material properties were shown.

The Mooshla Intrusive Complex (MIC) is an Archean polyphase magmatic body located in the Doyon-Bousquet-LaRonde (DBL) mining camp of the Abitibi greenstone belt, Québec. The MIC is spatially associated with numerous gold (Au)-rich VMS, epizonal 'intrusion-related' Au-Cu vein systems, and shear zone-hosted (orogenic?) Au deposits. To elucidate genetic links between deposits and the MIC, mineralized samples from two of the epizonal 'intrusion-related' Au-Cu vein systems (Doyon and Grand Duc Au-Cu) have been characterized using a variety of analytical techniques. Preliminary results indicate gold (as electrum) from both deposits occurs relatively late in the systems as it is primarily observed along fractures in pyrite and gangue minerals. At Grand Duc gold appears to have formed syn- to post-crystallization relative to base metal sulphides (e.g. chalcopyrite, sphalerite, pyrrhotite), whereas base metal sulphides at Doyon are relatively rare. The accessory ore mineral assemblage at Doyon is relatively simple compared to Grand Duc, consisting of petzite (Ag3AuTe2), calaverite (AuTe2), and hessite (Ag2Te), while accessory ore minerals at Grand Duc are comprised of tellurobismuthite (Bi2Te3), volynskite (AgBiTe2), native Te, tsumoite (BiTe) or tetradymite (Bi2Te2S), altaite (PbTe), petzite, calaverite, and hessite. Pyrite trace element distribution maps from representative pyrite grains from Doyon and Grand Duc were collected and confirm petrographic observations that Au occurs relatively late. Pyrite from Doyon appears to have been initially trace-element poor, then became enriched in As, followed by the ore metal stage consisting of Au-Ag-Te-Bi-Pb-Cu enrichment and lastly a Co-Ni-Se(?) stage enrichment. Grand Duc pyrite is more complex with initial enrichments in Co-Se-As (Stage 1) followed by an increase in As-Co(?) concentrations (Stage 2). The ore metal stage (Stage 3) is indicated by another increase in As coupled with Au-Ag-Bi-Te-Sb-Pb-Ni-Cu-Zn-Sn-Cd-In enrichment. The final stage of pyrite growth (Stage 4) is represented by the same element assemblage as Stage 3 but at lower concentrations. Preliminary sulphur isotope data from Grand Duc indicates pyrite, pyrrhotite, and chalcopyrite all have similar delta-34S values (~1.5 � 1 permille) with no core-to-rim variations. Pyrite from Doyon has slightly higher delta-34S values (~2.5 � 1 permille) compared to Grand Duc but similarly does not show much core-to-rim variation. At Grand Duc, the occurrence of Au concentrating along the rim of pyrite grains and associated with an enrichment in As and other metals (Sb-Ag-Bi-Te) shares similarities with porphyry and epithermal deposits, and the overall metal association of Au with Te and Bi is a hallmark of other intrusion-related gold systems. The occurrence of the ore metal-rich rims on pyrite from Grand Duc could be related to fluid boiling which results in the destabilization of gold-bearing aqueous complexes. Pyrite from Doyon does not show this inferred boiling texture but shares characteristics of dissolution-reprecipitation processes, where metals in the pyrite lattice are dissolved and then reconcentrated into discrete mineral phases that commonly precipitate in voids and fractures created during pyrite dissolution.

The geophysical data sets available for the western Churchill Province have had a bearing on the understanding of its structure, evolution and metal endowment. New data were acquired and interpreted during the Geo-mapping for Energy and Minerals (GEM) Program (2008-2020). Regional, high-resolution aeromagnetic, and targeted gravity and magnetotelluric surveys were collected in GEM, in conjunction with geological mapping projects, in order to provide control on bedrock features beneath widespread glacial overburden and flat-lying sedimentary basins. Quantitative estimates of three-dimensional geometry were obtained in key areas through geophysical models integrating the geophysical characteristics with local rock property measurements. These geophysical data sets contributed to new knowledge and interpretations in three related research fields: 1) location and nature of Rae cratonmp;gt;'s boundaries within the western Churchill Province; 2) definition of internal Rae architecture; and 3) identification of reactivated structures controlling gold and uranium mineralization. The new data, models and emerging tectonic and metallogenic frameworks will serve as guides for future exploration in this remote, complex, challenging region.

Review question / Objective: It has been the gold standard for decades to reconstruct a large peripheral nerve injury with a nerve autograft, and this remains true today as well. In addition to nerve autografts, biological conduits and vessels can also be applied. A fair amount of studies have examined the benefits of adding stem cells to the lumen of a nerve conduit. The aim of this meta-analysis was to summarize animal experiments related to the utilization of stem cells as a luminal additive when rebuilding a peripheral nerve injury using nerve grafts. Eligibility criteria: The inclusion criteria were as following: 1.Reconstruction of peripheral nerve injury; 2.Complete nerve transection with gap defect created; 3.Animal in-vivo models; 4.Experimental comparisons between nerve conduits containing and not containing one type of stem cell; 5.Functional testing and electrophysiology evaluations are performed. The exclusion criteria were as following: 1.Repair of central nervous system; 2.Nerve repair is accomplished by end-to-end anastomosis; 3.Animal models of entrapment injuries, frostbite, traction injuries and electric injuries; 4.Nerve conduits made from autologous epineurium; 5.Clinical trials, reviews, letters, conference papers, meta-analyses or commentaries; 6.Same studies have been published in different journals under the same or a different title.

Review question / Objective: This meta-analysis investigated the value of rsDECT -based non-invasive assessment of the severity of esophagus varices and the risk of hemorrhage in patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension. Eligibility criteria: Studies meeting the following criteria were included: Studies evaluating the effect of rsDECT on EV in patients with hepatic cirrhosis, and published in Chinese or English; The diagnosis was based on acknowledged gold standard. Containing complete four-grid table data of diagnostic tests, which can be extracted directly or indirectly. Review, case-report, conference summary, animal study, and repeatedly published study were excluded.Based on the severity of EV shown in the endoscopy, patients in the study group were classified into the mild EV (EV1), medium EV (EV2), or severe EV (EV3) groups according to the General Rules for Recording Endoscopic Findings of Esophagogastric varices (The Japan Society for Portal Hypertension) : EV1, slightly linear expansions; EV2, moderately beaded expansions; EV3, significantly nodular or neoplastic expansions.

The LaRonde Zone 5 (LZ5) mine is part of the Doyon-Bousquet-LaRonde mining camp and is located in the southern part of the Abitibi greenstone belt in northwestern Quebec. The LZ5 deposit consists of three stacked mineralized corridors: Zone 4, Zone 4.1, and Zone 5. Zones 4 and 4.1 are discontinuous satellite mineralized corridors, whereas Zone 5 represents the main mineralized body. The mineralized zones of the LZ5 deposit and adjacent Ellison property (Ellison A and B zones) are hosted in the strongly-deformed, 2699-2695 Ma transitional to calcalkaline, intermediate to felsic, volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks of the Bousquet Formation upper member, which is part of the Blake River Group (2704-2695 Ma). Zones 4, 4.1, and 5 at the LZ5 mine are hosted in intermediate volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks of the Westwood andesitic to rhyodacitic unit (unit 5.1a), which forms the base of the upper member of the Bousquet Formation. The Ellison Zone A is hosted higher up in the stratigraphic sequence within a newly described intermediate volcanic unit. The Ellison Zone B is hosted in felsic volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks of the Westwood feldsparphyric rhyolite dome (subunit 5.3a-(b)). Mineralization in all three zones of the LZ5 deposit consists of discordant networks of millimeter- to centimeter-thick pyrite ±chalcopyrite ±sphalerite ±pyrrhotite veins and veinlets (10-20 % of the volume of the rock) and, to a lesser extent, very finely disseminated pyrite and boudinaged veins (less than or equal to 5 vol. % each) in strongly altered host rocks. Gold commonly occurs as microscopic inclusions in granoblastic pyrite and at the triple junction between recrystallized grains. The veins, stockworks, and disseminations were intensely folded and transposed in the steeply south-dipping, east-west trending S2 foliation. The vein network is at least partly discordant to the stratigraphy. A distal alteration halo envelops the LZ5 mineralized corridors and consists of a sericite-carbonate-chlorite- feldspar ±biotite assemblage. A proximal sericite-carbonate-chlorite-pyrite-quartz- feldspar-biotite ±epidote alteration assemblage is present within the LZ5 mineralized zones. A local proximal alteration assemblage of sericite-quartz-pyrite is also locally developed within Zone 4 and Zone 5 of the LZ5 deposit. Mass gains in Fe2O3 (t) and K2O, and mass losses in CaO, MgO, Na2O, and locally SiO2, are characteristic of the LZ5 alteration zones. The Ellison zone A and B are similar to LZ5 in terms of style of mineralization, but thin (10-20 cm) veins or bands of semi-massive to massive, finely recrystallized disseminated pyrite (0.1-1 mm) are distinctive. Chalcopyrite and sphalerite are also slightly more abundant in the mineralized corridors of the Ellison property and are usually associated with elevated gold grades. The zones are also slightly richer than at LZ5 in terms of gold and silver content, but narrower and less continuous in general. The Ellison Zone A is characterized by gains in Fe2O3 (t) and K2O and losses in CaO, MgO, Na2O, and SiO2. Gains in Fe2O3 (t) and local gains in K2O, MgO, and MnO, and losses in CO2, Na2O, P2O5, and SiO2, characterize the felsic host rocks of the Zone B corridor. The style of mineralization at LZ5 (pyrite ±chalcopyrite veins and veinlets, ±disseminated pyrite with low base metal content), its setting (i.e. in rocks of intermediate composition at the base of the upper member of the Bousquet Formation), and the geometry of its ore zones (stacked lenses of sulfide veins and veinlets, without massive sulfide lenses) differ from the other major deposits of the Doyon-Bousquet-LaRonde mining camp. Despite these differences, this study indicates that the LZ5 and Ellison mineralized corridors are of synvolcanic hydrothermal origin and have most likely been formed by convective circulation of seawater below the seafloor. An influx of magmatic fluids from the Mooshla synvolcanic intrusive complex or its parent magma chamber could explain the Au enrichment at LZ5, as has been suggested for other deposits of the camp. Evidence for a pre-deformation synvolcanic mineralization at LZ5 includes ductile deformation and recrystallization of the sulfides, the stacked nature of its ore zones, subconcordant alteration halos that envelop the mineralized corridors, evidence that the mineralized system was already active when the LZ5 lenses were deposited and control on mineralization by primary volcanic features such as the permeability and porosity of the volcanic rocks.
