Le, Loarne-Lemaire Séverine. "Les variables structurelles dans la formation des stratégies de convergence dans les télécommunication : une recherche action chez France Telecom." Lyon 3, 2004. http://www.theses.fr/2004LYO33032.
At the beginning of this millennium, the technical convergence is about to born. Nevertheless, how this opportunity can be transformed into innovative services by a multidivisional group, competing within the telecommunication industry. More precisely, how can we develop strategies of innovation, whose implementation requires the cooperation between the divisions of the group? This research, conducted within France Telecom, leads to two main results: Cooperation between divisions to generate new offers is multiform: It involves different kinds of divisions (product divisions, R&D division and distribution divisions), different resources. It raises different assets and is limited by different brakes. The multidivisional structure of the group limits the implementation of some strategies of innovation. This limit can be broken thanks to the coordination between the top management, middle managers from the R&D division and the distribution divisions and staff members from the distribution divisions. The role of these three different actors differs from the nature of the strategy of innovation: autonomous or deliberate. This thesis concludes that the development of strategies of innovation within multidivisional groups, whose structure is similar to France Telecom's one, can be achieved if the relation between R&D and distribution divisions and products divisions changes

"The whale has nothing to learn from plankton", this is how one could summarize the approach of the large groups vis-a-vis startups during the 20th century... However, following the 2008 crisis, the innovation policy of large groups integrates an approach to startups. The rapid pace of business evolution is stretching typical large corporation strategies. Hence, large corporations must seek to adopt an agile approach; borrowed from the startup approach. Rather than changing their own playbook; large groups aim to embrace open innovation as a way to evolve and meet any new business context. As a matter of fact, startups and large corporations have opposed strategies: startups are looking for product-market fit and exponential growth whereas large corporations are focused on optimization and profitability development. Yet, large corporations propose more and more open innovation plans targeting startups. In this thesis, we propose an analysis of the current practices in the corporate world to assess this apparent paradox. Thus, our central research question is: How to show the adequation between the needs of a startup and an open innovation plan of a large corporation by proposing a framework for a systematic and exhaustive analysis of the relationships between large corporations and startups? • What are the startups' needs? Are they evolving as the startup becomes more mature? • How to design tools for a systematic and exhaustive understanding of the open innovation plans and the support provided? • Is there an approach to identify the adequation between startup's needs and large corporation supports? We propose a maturity-grid-based framework to analyze the expected added value of open innovation measures proposed by large corporations. We build our grid on two scales: 1) on the type of engagement and relationships between large corporations and startups; 2) on the domains that the development of a startup should consider under the lens of the new ISO standards on innovation management ISO56000 series. We implement this framework for the French ecosystem (CAC 40 companies) with French startups survey and interviews of large corporations out of CAC 40 group. Finally, we validate our approach and findings with external stakeholders to our research. We have sketched several aspects of the large companies and startups interactions. Such interactions will increase in the near future, leading to new modes of cooperation especially after COVID-19 crisis. This work could serve as a basis for their future study

The learning process for entrepreneurs is an emerging field of research and little empirical research has been carried out. Research has two aims: - describe the learning process of entrepreneurs in real terms on the basis of the theory of experiential learning developed by Kolb (1984), to improve our understanding; - propose a typology of learning routes for entrepreneurs, i. E. The manner in which the former beliefs of entrepreneurs are transformed over time by thinking and action in a given socio-economic and institutional context. The methodological approach is qualitative. The research strategy is mainly based on the case study method recommended by Yin, and on the qualitative data analysis tools suggested by Miles and Huberman. The thesis rests on the one hand on an exploratory study carried out on the basis of the accompaniment of one entrepreneur, and on the other hand on a comparison of the evolutions of six innovative processes for the creation of a company. The results obtained in the thesis can be summarized in two main points: - the incorporation of the learning theories presented in literature in a conceptual framework; - the abduction-based construction, i. E. Via constant return trips between fieldwork and theoretical assumptions, of three standard learning routes for entrepreneurs. To conclude, this analysis enables the explanation of the factors likely to encourage the learning process of entrepreneurs

Soltim-Proval, the french leader software maker for personal insurance, must accomplish the merger of the two companies and adopt a communication approach to establish the new entity’s fame and image for its target market. Soltim-Proval is set against several questions of communication concerning the concept of identities, brand, accompaniment of change, image and communications approach, to be able to act in consistency with its stakeholders’ speeches. In an evolving economic environment, the “know well” being as important as the ”know-how” for the B-to-B market and the reputation playing a business-critical part

Technological innovation, and CSR involvement, is nowadays an important issue for firms. However, its influence remains under researched in the context of SMES’s. Our thesis contributes to filling a gap in the literature and highlights the adoption of technological innovations in industrial independent manufacturing SMEs with managerial practices-oriented CSR. To answer the main question of the thesis " Does stakeholder orientation promote the adoption of technological innovations in CSR-oriented SMEs?", we will mobilize Freeman's Stakeholder Theory (1984) as the starting point for our reflection. The reflections devoted Freeman's Stakeholder Theory enabled us to examine the effect of actors present in the environment of French industrial independent manufacturing SMEs by the stakeholder model proposed by Buysse and Verbeke (2003) allowed us to observe which groups of stakeholders positively influence the adoption of technological innovations. This research is based on a double approach: qualitative descriptive and quantitative econometric. Three major contributions stem from this thesis: (1) Explore CSR practices widely used in SMEs from the CSR and sustainable development study of INSEE (EnDD2011); (2) Two main results: 2-a- SMEs develop, intense and diversified relationships – however very localized – with stakeholders which aim to adopt technological innovations in the INSEE Innovation CIS 2012 study; 2-b- SMEs prefer the relationship with some stakeholders in their activity of adopting technological innovations for strategic reasons. In view of the results presented, managerial recommendations are put forward to help increase the commitment of managers of independent industrial manufacturing SMEs in stakeholder relations to optimize the adoption of technological innovations

The thesis rests on practical cases in company and on research tasks in industrial economy. We will refer to a vision of the company based on its competences and its knowledge. It registers the company in the action, in continuous processes of transformations and evolutions. The organization of the collective learning, knowledge and competences is a strategic objective for companies. This organization rests, today, mainly on data-processing tools. They transform the production process and the internal and external relations of the companies. They reveal of true chain of "administrative" production. The companies seek within the framework of their management of production, to pass from logic of loads to logic of flow. They transform apparently independent activities into continuous processes. The chain of "administrative" production becomes, therefore, optimized and subjected to the constraints of the industrial engineering of work. We try to propose a relevant framework of analysis to the industrialization of the services which integrates the various components of the organization. It is a question of improving the legibility of the roles and tasks of each one, working out a whole of indicators and measurements of performances and proposing an optimized organization. The company lay out, then, of an evolutionary cartography of its know-how and processes and technologies which support them. It perennializes a continuous improvement of the processes in term of productivity, quality and evolutionarity

Learning systems are a particular class of systems designed to produce services; their main purpose is to increase the competency of learners. This type of system is likely to face many transformations in the next few years. Indeed, learning systems must be able to respond to the changing needs of learners and of the industries that recruit the learners for employment. Moreover, they will operate in an increasingly competitive and more aggressive environment. The primary objective of this work is to define a performance measurement system of higher education institutions, which we will then link with action levers to allow a reactive control. Note that the main specificity of the learning system is that the product (learner) is also the actor in the production process and the client of the organization that provides the system. Thus we are confronted with a new type of product, the active product ; and the control system must be able to take into account this characteristic of the learning system. We propose a method in order to implement an integrated and reactive system of control. This method is composed of nine different steps from the definition of the system s strategy to the definition of the operational goals. The method is also using a phase of model to define a process map and a UML model.hese works are based on two principal activities: the deployment of the strategy through the conception of the performance measurement system and the conception of the control system itself. These two activities are articulated around a model activity, indispensable to implement our system. Existing methods will be used and adapted to our particular needs, like method of balanced scorecards for the deployment of the strategy or the Statecharts formalism to model the behaviour of our cooperating structure of control
Zong, Zhen. "Le processus de catégorisation des activités économiques émergentes : le cas des nanotechnologies en France." Thesis, Lille 1, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013LIL12024/document.
The aim of this thesis is to study the categorization process of emerging activities to contribute to the discussion about industries’ creations, especially through technological innovations. Two approaches of categorization in the literature have been identified: a content approach that focuses on the consequences of the categories and a process-based approach that focuses on the process of categorizing organizations. Both approaches are converging by showing the importance of the concept of boundary for categorization. In terms of methodology, we chose a qualitative approach based on a longitudinal case study on nanotechnologies in France. The results of this research show that two types of processes exist for the categorization of economic activity: the internal process and external process of boundary creation. The internal process is characterized by mutual awareness of common interest between stakeholders of the activity, theorization of knowledge, and claiming for differentiation between stakeholders. The external process is reflected in the efforts of stakeholders to the legitimization of nanotechnologies in the eyes of external audiences. Internal and external processes of boundary creation in the case of nanotechnologies interact and reinforce each other. A typology of three strategies mobilized in the categorization including attachment strategies, distinction strategies and ambiguity strategies, has also been proposed through this study. The thesis provides recommendations towards entrepreneurs to better manage the acceptance of their emerging activity

In a high technological context of strong competition, several companies base their strategy on innovation. Without information about new technology developments, competitors' strategy and market size, the decision-making for innovative project becomes more hazardous. So, STMicroelectronics built its strategy on innovation in order to improve the marketing of new products. To support this innovation strategy and to help the decision makers to know all necessary information to a decision-making, the STMicroelectronics Tours site has created a competitive intelligence (CI) team: the Market Intelligence. To support the innovation, the Market Intelligence is organized according to three kind of Intelligence: The Helpful Intelligence which supply information for the most part of employees The Company Area Intelligence which allow to watch the competitors, the customers, the suppliers, etc. The Project Intelligence which consists in the study of complex topics in collaboration with experts. In order to improve the first step of innovation process, the Market Intelligence team has set up a new process: the expert group approach. It was created in order to share and analyze information between experts with the aim of supporting the Management to identify new strategic trends

The business model (or BM) has been popularised by managers since the end of the 1990’s. This notion is much debated within the academic sphere: even if a consensus has been reached with regards to its definition, a debate around its significance, components and its relationhip with strategy remains. We have focused on analysing the articulation between the notions of business models and strategy in the context of major technological change. Through this particular context, we were able to observe many modifications of strategy and business models. Starting from the literature, we suggest a conceptual framework that we have deployed to study eight case-studies of French actors who are positioned in the emergent market of ebook. This empirical study has enabled us to confirm the systemic nature of the BM: on average, a strategic components impacts three components of BM directly and another six indirectly. We also conclude that there is a co-construction process of the business model and the strategy: the strategy impacts the BM almost systematically, and the BM affects strategic components in almost 60% of the cases. The resources and the value network are the components of the BM that affect the strategy most. Thus, our results can contribute towards reflections such as effectuation. We have also observed (that both the company's history and environment have an impact on the BM more than on the strategy (in volumetry). This has led us to broaden the notion of path dependence, but also to nuance the statement that the BM would be different from the strategy due to a slighter sensitivity to the environment. Our results also suggest that the adjustment to technological change differs depending on the characteristics of the actors. We were also interested in a more managerial issue: the distribution of value in the sector. We concluded that the chain upstream value is greater than its downstream counterpart, and that managers will have the greatest difficulties in making the central activity of e-diffusion profitable

Since the middle of the 90s, the e-organization and the intranet set up themselves as excellent model of the practices of organizational communication. The objective of the research is to put in visibility the dynamics of innovation by taking into account the devices of mediation and the communicationnels processes which allow the institutionalization of scripts. Devices and processes of creation, innovation are particularly studied through a case of collective conception (intranet project of a international group), professional associations and manager press. We proceed, on one hand, to an analysis of the story that these authorities give themselves in touch with the intranet, and so, the developed reflexive activities. On the other hand, specific processes are analyzed in a strong way in the sense that they question the sociogenesis of the e-organization in socio-cognitive dimensions of the innovation : devices and process of classifications, selections, celebrations, controversies, updatings. The organizational hétérogenesis is put in touch with the proposed scripts, with the redistributions of these answers and their movements. By taking into account the isomorphic processes, in their normative and coercive forms, the imitation envisages then as an acted and active process a " libidinal economy of the e-organization ". The scripts appear as authorities (not exclusively linguistic) of performation, the power of which increases by means of repetitions and of differentiations: they establish a distributed and unstable socio-cognitive map of the e-organization from which four interacting figures emerge: a structural-normative figure, a socio-cognitive figure, a sociopolitical figure and a socio-aesthetic figure

Consulting is not an established trade such as the lawyer or physician profession to which consultants use to compare themselves. However consulting is a very important and legitimating factor in the economic world. In the beginning of the 90s as in the early 2000s, it successfully mastered the crises it encountered. Its structures are relatively stable. Eventhough the consultants mediate between the film and the everchanging economic world, it is to be asked what are the factors which help those developments and stability? In order to answer this question, we have set at work a pluri-methodological process resting on four levels over the period from 1990 through 2005. First level: a statistical analysis of consultants' morphology and professionnal and social dynamics whereby can be seen their closeness to business bourgeoisie as well as the transitory character of their consulting activity. Second: a lengthways analysis of consulting companies which renders the space structure visible, either by showing the structures at work in the consulting process (capital undivision, integration of diverse resources, concentration, social surface and volume of resources. Third: the opposition which exists between conception and realisation. Fourth an analysis of the ERP implemented at EDF helped render visible the complex interplay between consultants and their clients. A synthesis of those different analyses shows the cyclical nature of the appropriation by consulting firms of consulting services, which helps understand both the ability of the trade to change and at the same time as it perpetuates them

Our research focuses on management tools and how they can help organizations to manage institutional complexity (Greenwood et al., 2011). We are interested in the latest territorial reform (the NOTRe law, 2015) which introduces a new transparency management tool (the budget orientation report) in order to convey a managerial logic within local authorities. By mobilizing research on institutional logics and management instrumentation, and a longitudinal case study (2016-2020), we show how management tools and their use in a context of institutional complexity are shaped by multiple logics. We also highlight how management tools allow the organization to respond to this complexity through a process of "creative tension". The tool allows the coexistence of logics by serving as a basis for compromises combining hybridization and partitioning in which decoupling appears as a condition of compromise

This thesis explores the forms of commitment and provides an answer to the question: What is becoming of the normative contract of chartered accountants in a context of change of their profession? We crossed two theoretical fields: that of the organizational behavior with the theory of the psychological contract and the sociology of the professions with the integrated model of De Rozario (2006). We conducted 20 qualitative interviews with chartered accountants and mobilized an analysis grid based on the psychological contract theory that takes into account human and non-human contract makers. The results allow us to say that despite the current contractual violations and transitions, the profession of liberal accountants continues to lead to a commitment through its normative contract. The latter comprises three individual psychological contracts which are transactional, transitional and relational contracts. Current changes are leading to increasingly complex transactional psychological contracts with networks of experts and a relational psychological contract with management tools, especially digital devices, to respond to the crisis they face. Finally, the relational contract with the profession reduces today to its diploma component, moving towards relational contracts of expert networks of proximity

There is a growing interest from companies and academic research in Management Innovations (MIs) carrying a managerial philosophy alternative to that of the hierarchical organization. Their adoption by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) appears a priori unexpected given the specificities of SMEs, in particular their vulnerability and the strong centrality of the manager. The exacerbated context of the growth of the SME makes the adoption of such MIs all the more unexpected, as it brings multiple upheavals and destabilizing tensions, and pushes the SME to evolve towards a classical hierarchical organization. However, existing literature reports a small number of studies carried out on MIs in SMEs, and a fortiori on MIs that are alternative to hierarchical organization in growing SMEs, thus not shedding enough light on these phenomena. Therefore, as a first line of research, this doctoral work aims to identify the motivations that push growing SMEs to adopt a MI alternative to the hierarchical organization. From a dynamic perspective, our second line of research is concerned with the evolution of such MIs when the SME experiences a new phase of growth after its adoption. To answer these questions, our choice was to go with a qualitative methodology, a methodology that is consistent with our interpretative epistemological paradigm. We are studying three cases of growing SMEs as part of our first line of research, and two cases of SMEs experiencing growth after the adoption of a first MI as part of the second line of research. Our results show that the studied SMEs adopt MIs alternative to hierarchical organization because they refuse to evolve towards a hierarchical organization because of their growth. The hierarchical organization is perceived as distancing the company from its identity and its original values. They adopt such MIs with the intent of perpetuating their original values and history. Our second line of research shows that the two studied SMEs are setting up a second MI alternative to hierarchical organization in order to overcome the challenges brought by a new growth stage. This second MI is aligned with the philosophy of the first MI, philosophy that is congruent with the original values of the SME, values that it wishes to thereby perpetuate

In chapter 1, I develop a neo-schumpeterian model of technology diffusion, where the positive externality related to diffusion has a negative indirect effect, through the capital market equilibrium, wich decreases the probability to implement the best technologies. In the long run, there are four different growth regimes. In chapter 2, I study the relationships between technical progress, technology diffusion and education. I check the robustness of the results of Benhabib and Spiegel (2005). I get opposite results on technology diffusion but the effect of the level of education on TFP growth is still positive. In chapter 3, I study, in the case of France, the links between the initial size of a firm and its survival. The relation between initial employment and the hazard rate is new in the international litterature. In chapter 4, I evaluate the effect on firm life duration of a public subsidy, called "ACCRE". It is one year payroll exemption, given after a selection process. Taking into account this endogeneity, we get a non-significant causal effect of ACCRE. I chapter 5, I study the effect of international migrations on GDP per capita growth. The effect of net migration is better than the one of natural population growth, but its global impact is not significant. Finally, in chapter 6, I study differences about firms created in France according to the founder's nationality. I suggest a method to divide the difference between survival rates into a part related to observed explanatory variables and a part related to unobserved factors. The latter is dominating

This thesis will address and identify the effects of the Digital Technologies (DT) on the modified management modes. After having identified the organizational contexts that have passed throughout the history, especially pre-modern, modern and postmodern, the change is studied through the new spaces and issues of work. It comes out that the organizations with a high digital content and digital communications develop managerial practices that ensure their sustainability. The managerial innovation, the organizational agility, the collaborative work, collective intelligence, as well as other practices have been implanted on to more traditional aspects in form but actualized on the merits. The commitment and management styles that have been so strongly influenced by digital technology have led to practices that promote the benevolence while stressing further on the collaboration and the interactivity. The data collected from our empirical research show that the managerial practices of the Lebanese organizations are driven by the Digital Technologies (DT) similarly to the Northern countries, though with less amplitude they have led to innovative communication modes and efficient for the work relationships

Current efforts to halt the destruction of the planet’s ecosystems and to reinforce and renew their collective management reside on three distinct innovation fronts: (1) the design and use of new ecosystem assessment tools by conservation scientists and practitioners; (2) the development of new social and environmental accounting frameworks and tools at the level of organization; (3) the contribution of the private sector to natural capital protection and maintenance. This doctoral thesis aims to relate these three domains of innovation to one another by mobilizing the accounting discipline as a pivot to connect ecological information systems and tools, diverse forms of collective action for ecosystem management, and private sector initiatives and accounting innovations. The thesis combines a work of theoretical construction with the results of an action-research conducted in an environmental sector company that seeks to develop new services specifically designed for the management of ecological systems. We first propose a new theoretical and practical perspective at the junction of accounting and conservation science centered on the collective management of ecological issues: the development of Management Accounting for Ecosystems. We show why and how they are complementary to all the other domains of ecosystem accounting innovation. Secondly, we introduce four organizational and strategic directions to think and guide the development of new “services to ecosystems” business models. To complement them, we suggest new accounts and accounting practices to help environmental sector companies negotiate and co-create ecological value with other stakeholders, and transform their own representation and quantification of corporate value
